Game Ten: Finally
BySunday. That’s the last time the Yankees played a game, and since today is already Wednesday, the layoff is the equivalent of a baseball eternity. But a little extra time off never hurt anyone, so hopefully the team is well rested and A-Rod is feeling better after his bout with the flu. Here’s the lineup…
Brett Gardner, LF
Derek Jeter, SS
Mark Teixeira, 1B
Alex Rodriguez, 3B
Robinson Cano, 2B
Nick Swisher, RF
Jorge Posada, DH
Curtis Granderson, CF
Russell Martin, C
This one starts at 7:05pm ET and can be seen on YES. Sorry to everyone who was looking forward to the My9 broadcast last night. Enjoy the game.
Rotation Update: The Yankees aren’t skipping anyone in the rotation, they’re just going to push everyone back following yesterday’s rain out. Phil Hughes goes tomorrow, Ivan Nova on Friday, Freddy Garcia on Saturday, and CC Sabathia on Sunday.

Freddy Garcia against Texas could be fun(ny).
In a weird, masochistic sort of way.
I’m invoking the YCPB clause here: 6 shutout innings from Garcia.
That’s going to be brutal. Even without Hamilton.
will jeter hit a ball past the infield?
Derek 4-3ter will try to bust a ball up and over the new “Jeter shift” of 5 infielders and 2 outfielders.
Yes. Three outfield hits tonight. Book it.
Boston game was called due to lack of environmental grit.
Will this be the night Derek and/or Jorge figure out how to be good at baseball again?
baseball players not on steroids tend to age rapidly as 36/7 year old SS’s and 39/40 year old catchers.
But this night may be the night they figure out the aging process!
(fighting the urge to respond by saying something about what baseball players not able to hit well in AAA tend to do in the minors)
Even our best OF?!?!?!!!
our best DEFENSIVE OFer. I stand by all my misstatements.
/Dan Quayle
Is that Jenn Sterger in the photo at the top of the this post?
No, that’s a couple of black guys standing in the rain.
freak’n Red Sox canceled today’s game even though it’s only sprinkling and then announced they’re pushing Lackey back a full 10 days (ouch!).
talk about a siege mentality.
I can’t get mad considering the Yankees postponed a game when it wasn’t even drizzling, and the Freddy Garcia Era was scheduled to begin. Hey, they even canceled it early so no one went and wasted their money or whatever.
I’m just glad that the pitcher *we* keep bumping back and attempting to avoid ever using wasn’t signed to a 5 year, 82M deal last winter.
^^^that.
I though Lackey was apart of the 18 aces of the Red Sox. On a serious note though this guy is still probably a solid #2/3 rotation and probably is not the one that should be pushed back too often.
I don’t think Lackey will be a #2 ever again. But I agree Dice-K is a bigger issue.
I know they don’t want Freddy to feel like the bastard child of the rotation, but using CC once a week is not good.
Having Garcia follow Hughes & Nova could be brutal on our RP, having CC on Saturday would still give him a break (six days rest) and likely help our MRP’s.
Had a debate with my friend. If we could all the Yankee greats, put them on one team and place every other great on another, I think the Yankees could be better. So here are the teams we made.
C- Yogi Berra
1B- Lou Gehrig
2B- Robinson Cano
3B- Alex Rodriguez
SS- Derek jeter
LF- Babe Ruth
CF- Joe DiMaggio
RF- Mickey Mantle
DH- Jason Giambi
Bench: Bill Dickey, Mark Teixeira, Roger Maris, Phil Rizzuto
SP: Whitey Ford
SP: Ron Guidry
SP: CC Sabathia
SP: Mike Mussina
SP: Andy Pettitte
RP: Goose Gossage
RP: Sparky Lyle
RP: Dave Righetti
Closer: God
VS
C: Johnny Bench
1B- Albert Pujols
2B- Roger hornsby
3B- Chipper Jones
SS- Honus Wagner
LF- Ted Williams
CF- Willie Mays
RF- Barry bonds
DH- Frank Thomas
Bench: Ty Cobb, Joe Morgan, Hanley Ramirez, Joe Mauer
SP: Greg Maddux
SP: Randy Johnson
SP: Pedro Martinez
SP: Roger Clemens
SP: John Smoltz
RP: Trevor Hoffmann
RP: Hoyt Wilhelm
RP: Dennis Eckersley
Closer: Billy Wagner
I honestly think the Yankee lineup is better than the other greats lineup. Cano in his prime is the “worst” hitter on the team by a damn longshot. Now the Yanks would get absolutely bitch slapped when comparing pitching. And it’s interesting that most of the best MLB pitchers ever come from the 90′s and early 200′s. Like wow.
Put Babe as the starter & DH…not outfield.
BTW, Wagner would not close above Eck or Hoff, your missing some great Yankee starters, our closer list must include Sparky Lyle (c75/76)
BTW, Wagner would not close above Eck or Hoff
Meh, I’d pick Wagner over both of those guys. Dude’s pitching tripleslash E/F/x is 2.31/2.73/2.76. That’s hard to top. Hoffman is a bit overrated thanks to the excellent compiling of a flawed counting stat, and Wagner’s numbers are comparable to Eckersley’s but occured in a more offense-heavy era.
Wagner >> Eckersley >>>>> Hoffman, IMO.
SP: Whitey Ford
SP: Ron Guidry
SP: CC Sabathia
SP: Mike Mussina
SP: Andy Pettitte
[snip]
SP: Greg Maddux
SP: Randy Johnson
SP: Pedro Martinez
SP: Roger Clemens
SP: John Smoltz
Those are not remotely the 5 best Yankee starters in history, nor are the second grouping the 5 best non-Yankee starters in history.
Who would you choose for the Yankees side? I didn’t do the non Yankee side but I don’t think it’s that bad if you want to go with FG.
Leaving out Lefty Gomez is a crime. He’s top three. I’d also put Ruffing in there and kick out Andy and Mussina.
Vic was clutch as well & if wins in a season are the standard Chesbro is the ho.
I considered him but he over performed his ERA in a lot of his years. I guess you could use the alex gonzalez “different era” thing in this situation though…
Over years, it might be more of a skill. Think Glavine.
Heh I thought Glavine was pretty overrated too. But I think I’ll give the boot to Moose here.
I think he’s overrated but I think after as many innings as that guy pitched – it’s more of a skill than just blind luck.
I’d go:
Yanks:
Ford
Guidry
Ruffing
Gomez
Hoyt
vs
C. Young (duh!!!)
G. Maddux
W. Johnson
R. Johnson
Clemens
What about Feller, Cy Young etc…???
Walter Johnson
Sandy Koufax
Christy Mathewson
Bob Gibson
Steve Carlton
Bob Feller
Warren Spahn
Satchel Paige
Tom Seaver
Jim Palmer
Grover Cleveland Alexander
etc.
You forgot Lefty Grove
Smoltz was a really good pitcher but not one of the top five non-Yankee pitchers of all time. No way.
to teh 8th!!!
heh, Well we did this in class at first. My friend just chose 5 great but recent pitchers.
I’d put Reggie at DH above Giambi. He had a 148 OPS+ with the team, he could actually run, and if I remember correctly, he was pretty good in the big games. I might be wrong on that last part.
I’ll have to take a look at the rest.
Also, I can’t put Cano above either Joe Gordon or Tony Lazzeri yet. He has a chance to be the Yankees all-time best second baseman, but he’s not there yet.
no love for Clemente? maybe not over Mays or Bonds, but surely the 4OF on that team
I didn’t know you could get a case of the flue. How do you catch that?
I know there are cases of the flu, short for influenza, but didn’t know there was anything like a waterway disease you could catch.
I had the flew once.
Boo.
Wow that attendace is pathetic wow.
I’ve never been so happy to see Kay/Leiter, saturday/sunday was brutal
Me too, but not at all excited for the Buck Showalter lionizing.
Word.
why is the game blacked out on mlbtv??
Are you in NY?
no i live in MD, the games on YES aren’t usually blacked out for me, i dont get it…
you’re local to Baltimore so it’s blacked out, you have to watch it on MASN
oh right, wasn’t thinking about that. thanks
That’s why. It’s probably on MASN(?).
Stadium is so empty you can hear the ump’s calls.
I would NOT want to be at the game tonight in this weather.
I like 3 pitch AJ
WTF a wild pitch already?? Can we get Posada back there please?? At least he can hit
LOL?
you must be unaware of Russell’s muscle
Jorge’s well known for his superior defense…
Well played, Teixeira.
Huzzah Marky Mark
Now my all time Yankees team
C Berra
1B Gehrig
2B Joe Gordon
SS Derek Jeter
3B Alex Rodriguez
LF Roger Maris
CF Joe Dimaggio
RF Mickey Mantle
DH Babe Ruth
SP Red Ruffing
SP Whitey Ford
SP Ron Guidry
SP Lefty Gomez
SP C.C. Sabathia
LRP Andy Pettite
LRP Allie Reynolds
MRP Dave Righetti
MRP Sparky Lyle
SU Catfish Hunter
SU Goose Gossage
CP Mariano Rivera
Bench: Reggie Jackson, Graig Nettles, Bill Dickey, Robbie Cano
Roger Maris should not be starting.
Actually, he probably shouldn’t be on the team. Replace him with Bernie.
How about Winfield or Rickey
Sure. All three are better than Maris.
Ain’t no thing, A.J. got that.
Nice bit of Houdini’ing, AJ.
Good job AJ, make Vlad get himself out.
i’m “watching” on gameday
how does aj look?
gamecast, whatever
Ok, so far. Couple hard hit balls.
Vlad has just the nicest strikeout swing
Nice, Brett.
That’ll do Girtner.
Kay calling for bunts already.
If Jeter bunts, I’ll plotz.
bunt > double play
It’s all moot now.
Or maybe, Mike, Gardner doesn’t want to run willy nilly into outs.
sadtrombone.com
Great!
so that worked well nice throw
Would have preferred to see Gardner try and go two. At full speed there around first it probably would have taken a perfect throw to get him. And Luke Scott is not exactly Clemente out there.
/hindsight 20/20
That’s one.
A Jeterian hit. Niiiiiice
Jeter hit a ball hard??
Not really, just well placed.
It’s better to be lucky than good…sometimes.
Is it me or has Tex closed up his stance a bit? Remember those adjustments he made last year, when it was wide open. It even looks changed from spring training…or I could be making it up.
I’ve noticed that too. He really opened up last June, seems like he just went back to his old stance.
Gardner get a bad jump or what?
literally perfect throw by Wieters
figuratively perfect too!
Yeah, just a perfect throw.
Then I’m not too upset, can’t win them all
not a big fan of trying to steal with no outs in the 1st unless facing Koufax
Really? With Gardner’s speed?
He’s got the wheels and is like 80% successful. I’m happy with him going anytime he feels he can
a big fan when Jeter is batting. It all worked out for a change.
Too bad that utility player Gardner got caught stealing…
Love the hot shot up the middle call. Stern plays the “hot shit up the middle” clip all the time and I wait on pins and needles to hear him butcher it again.
Shadoosh.
Jeter now tied for 32nd all time with Jake Beckley for 32nd all time on the career hit list.
If he gets another hit to move up to 31 all time will be 31 all time on the career hit list?
Sorry had to.
short porch’d
Lovin’ the retro A-Rod.
An A-bomb!
Boom. Pow. A-Rod for president.
I love a-rod, short porch special
At this point, I really wouldn’t be surprised by a MVP by ARod
ALEX!
We missed you.
Sweeeeet.
a-rod… yawning his way to the MVP
Does Tillman really look as bad as Gameday is suggesting?
Worse.
4 straight hits, that’s usually bad
As much as I hate that contract, watching A-Rod rewrite the record books is going to be so entertaining.
not for me
steroids
Just like 70 percent of anyone else at the time.
Source?
Source?
My bad I was just exaggerating.
Schilling once said he believed it was around 50%. Whatever the number is, I’m sure it is pretty high.
the only thing I take Schillings word on is crock pot recipies and how to write the shittiest blogs in the history of forever-dom.
fat douche… (him, not you…)
And since that happened I kinda have to ask now. Are we being alex gonzalezed again? Cause that would be kinda epic.
Soup?
Yeah, I agree, he shouldn’t have stopped taking steroids.
I’m the same way, I’ll worry about the contract when it’s a weight around the team’s neck. It’s more fun watching him eat popcorn and hit homers
Lets relax people, this is freaking Chris Tillman pitching. We saw how clueless everyone is against a good pitcher like Josh Beckett. Nothing to be gained here.
Again, LOL?
I disagree. There’s one in the W column to be gained…
But don’t forget that games in April don’t count.
1 April win = .6457694 September win
I would never forget that.
Dude, he throws a changeup. We suck against guys who throw changeups. Maybe it’s because he isn’t a lefty
You know I don’t have the stats in front of me (and I’m not sure I can even find them), but I also thought the Yankees had problems iwth change-ups, but the stats suggested differently. The Yankees actually hit change-ups better than average, including Mark Teixeira.
Confirmation bias. It’s a helluva drug.
probably true
but that don’t make it right with the baseball gods [ruth, maris, aaron]
What if Maris or Aaron took amphetamines?
ruth did it on the power of hot dogs, whiskey, and whore mongering…
shd have been a reply on the arod steroids vomment from jobawockeez
us old guys aren’t so good at this
AJ throwing a nice changeup so far. He won’t need his 55 foot curve much if he can throw the change for strikes.
Wow how many times did he throw a 3-2 change-up last year?
Dat was nasty
that was such a nasty curve
today in yankee history, micky mantle found out he was a father !
http://thebestdamnsportssiteev.....il-12-1953
nice way to find out eh? ha
I really hope AJ forgets every month except April exists.
Way too many pitches, A.J.
Yeah WTF! 48 pitches in the 2nd?
Side note: You know your sport’s in a weak position when a playoff game is shown on MSG+
Welcome to AJ world Russell.
Damn that was a beautiful change
filthy change, throw more of those
i am loving this changeup
good thing the pen is well rested, jeez
Maybe we’ll get to see Hector Noesi today!
AJ making hard on himself. He needs to finish these hitters.
Russell unveils the new orange nail polish for flashing the signs.
/strange
Maybe it’s a lifestyle choice?
Probably
might be hard to see white if it’s really foggy
might be hard to see white if
it’s really foggyhe’s white…Arg, come on AJ, don’t break down on us now. We might see a nice long Noesi audition today if AJ keeps this up
AJ’s stuff looks pretty solid today and that change/sinker combo has fooled the O’s a lot today. Sadly he has no command and that might prevent him from the win. At least after AJ there is good chance we will see the anti-AJ in Noesi.
I guess AJ’s strategy is to strand a man at third every inning…
At least AJ has kept scoreless, hopefully he can get a quick couple innings here.
High pitch count, AJ. What’s he at through two?
53. oy
53
Yeah, that’s not good. He won’t make it through five at that pace, yet strangly his pitches have had good bite.
Way to get out of ANOTHER jam AJ.
That wasn’t a strike…
Thanks Ned.
This ump is going to be an issue
Martinisdinero???
Always nervous whenever a Yankee tries to outrun Nick Markakis’ arm. He’s nailed too many of our runners.
Russell the Muscle is playing better because he’s not distracted by this anymore:
http://www.playerwives.com/mlb.....-hervieux/
“We practice a lot”
O yeah, I’d practice on her day and night
Yeah, I’d definitely be distracted if she was my girlfriend too. Holy shit.
Bunt him to third so a wild pitch will score him!!! Small ball wins games!!!
Not up 3 in the 2nd!!!
That had the same effect anyway!!!
SEEEEE!?!?!!? Small ball baby!!!! I don’t care if we’re down by 7, small ball wins games.
Note: This is all purely sarcasm as everybody should know by now
Martin is on fire
It’ll be interesting seeing how Cash handles it when the deadline comes.
Or it could completely suck.
I wouldn’t mind if the Yankees decided to trade neither. The way they’re playing the Yankees could have the best catching combination in the league. But pitching is a priority for the Yankees and chances are one of them is going to be part of a trade for what I hope is a front-line pitcher.
Klaw said he hasn’t time Gardner in a while but said he thinks at best a 70 speed. Is he on crack?
It’s not like 70 is slow. It’s a 20-80 scale, so 70 speed is really fast.
The other night was it ESPN that clocked him at 3.90 from home to first? There’s maybe three other guys in the league that fast
Let’s see, since that’s 90 feet it’s 30 yards. 80 speed should be like Chris Johnson speed which ran what a 4.24 in a 40 yard dash?
Gardner is fast for baseball but 80 speed should be like the best in the world.
Meaning he’s at a 70 on the 20/80 scale? That’s very high.
It’s because he can only be Gritty based on MSM stereotypes…
Gardner is slow in the same way Cano is lazy. That way is bullsh*t.
umpire sucks!
Derek has…had some cheapies this year…
lol Jeter being smiled upon by the BABIP gods
He’s been waiting for over a year for it to happen, now is as good a time as any
The ground ball machine delivers!
I hope this aren’t the only hits Jeter’s gonna get. But I’ll take it.
3000 of em, suck it
Yup, once again, it’s sometimes better to be lucky than good.
SCHWEET!
Line drive in the books baby.
/butnotreally
It looks like a line drive in the boxscore! But we know it wasn’t
Classic Jeter.
I’ll take it
jeterian
Teix cured
It all took was facing Tillman
If I’m Tillman I want nothing to do with A-Rod right now. But I’d also be a major league pitcher. So that’d be cool.
Jeez, that was 89 down the chute.
Cracks me up. Last year people bitched when balls didn’t fall in for hits. This year, Jeter gets cheap hits and people bitch about his decline.
Maybe people just love to bitch.
God I love playing Baltimore.
See, that’s nice. The fans are cheering “Let’s go Yankees!” If it was Boston and they were up 4-0, they’d be doing “Orioles suck!” about now.
You try being from that racist inbred hellhole of a city. You’d be bitter too.
/WentToCollegeinBoston
Not really.
If it’s the Orioles, Mariner’s or the Expos they would still chant Yankees suck. If those tools say it at a Patriots game they’ll say it anywhere.
What’s the psychological disorder where you’re obsessed with someone you profess to hate?
Cano smash time
Boy do I love playing the Orioles.
But the fightin’ Showalters are gonna contend this year!
Wait till they sweep the Red Sox….
RBIs for Robbie
that was too easy
Tillman is Hughes (right now).
Too bad we can’t score runs without hitting HRs.
Ahh it’s good to be on top, loving the offense right now
looks like AJ is gonna be the 2011 version of Hughes with the run support
WTF was that Papelbon in that commercial? Gross, get it away
He almost looked human. Gasp!
O’s young pitching I heard is pretty fantastic guys.
/hour late to the game
BUCK SHOWALTER!
Can we please face Tillman 152 more times this year please? Is that too much to ask?
So I guess Jakubauskas won’t be starting tomorrow.
Any idea who then?
The Yankees will lend them Phil Hughes and they’ll start…anyone else.
Maybe Britton?
was he supposed to? ESPN said Arrieta for tomorrow when I checked earlier today
The Orioles must be getting desperate and letting fans pitch. No way is a guy with the last name Jakubauskas a pitcher
hahaha i remember that guy being on the mariners last year
might we see noesi tonight?
Posada just got robbed. Nothing going his way.
But he swung at ball 3 on a 2-0 count with the bases loaded. Rookie needs to learn plate discipline. C’mon Jorgie!
Holy shit, nice catch
Good catch. I’ll give him that.
what a play
Top 10 ESPN.
Good thing Johnny Damon couldn’t catch that one.
Sick catch. Was he blowing a bubble with his gum as he dove?
Adam Jones is one cool dude. Talks to everyone.
Saw you playing baseball… NOT #THE_REAL_ADAM_JONES
http://twitter.com/#!/THE_ADAM.....4765543781
http://riveraveblues.com/2010/.....p-m-35442/
so 4 1/2 ahead of the red sux after this
amybody expect that?
Nope but I’m loving ever damn second of it.
Hopefully AJ can keep his pitch count low enough to get through 5 and get a win. After that, let’s see Noesi.
Is it really only the top of the third?
There you go. Six pitches. Zing!
A much needed quick inning for AJ.
Wow, that’s exactly the inning AJ needed
Niiice. Should easily get through 5+ now. Like to see AJ finish 6, and then turn it over to Noesi for 3 if he can get it done. Might as well not waste any of the RoJoSoMo quartet
Wouldn’t hurt to see one or two of them get some work in, what with the extra off days and all.
Grandy needs a hit.
So with Noesi it’s:
NoLoRoJoSoMo?
Wait, Martin at the plate and I hear a Hip Hip Jorge chant?
How many strikes does Gardner watch go by per game? I’m guessing about 10.
Maybe Andruw should play more often?
No.
This year he has been seeing alot more strikes. New scouting report but I still have confidence in Brett.
As long as he gets on base at a good clip, like he did last year, I’m fine with it.
Getting on first in 5 pitches >>>>>>>>>> getting on first in one pitch >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> not getting on first
problem is he hasn’t gotten on much since last July
He was also hurt last July.
still hurting now?
It’s the tenth game of the year.
More than enough time to determine how successful a season is!!!
Albert Pujols is trash. The Cardinals were right to lowball him this winter when he asked for an extension. Look at that batting average! Get that bum out of there as soon as possible.
Q.E.D.
I live and die with every AB. Figuratively, not literally, though.
I just died in your arms tonight, Esteban. Luckily, last night the D.J. saved my life.
i understand that
seriously wondering whether he’s still hurting
DOTF spoilers…ignore if you want.
Daivd Phelps final line: 5 2/3 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 3 Er, 2 BB, 5 K.
better than last time. How is the offense doing?
Montero 0-3 against Meijia.
But there’s no I in Jesus Montero-sometimes the rest of the team is needed. Especially against the tough Buffalo Bisons of the NY Mets.
Trivia has to be Jimmy Key, no?
That was my guess.
Wasn’t he a Jay in 1992?
I’m thinking it was Melido Perez. Key joined in ’93.
Ah right, I’m off by a year with Key.
I don’t know if Perez is the answer. I just picked him since he had a good year.
not exactly murderer’s row in the middle of the Os line-up
Manslaughterer’s Row?
AJ’s got that swag
1st/2nd innings – 53 pitches
3rd/4th innings – 19 pitches
nice
Yeah 1st 2 innings he was missing spots badly…last inning he was throwing darts right to Russel’s glove. Martin didn’t even have to move for some of those FBs.
Very encouraged by AJ in terms of pitch selection when behind or even in a count. The changeup baby!
Is AJ finally starting to become a legitimate 3-pitch pitcher?
Rothschild said ” Enough of this BS AJ. Suck it up and throw the changeup against the O’s in April”.
a-rod… machine
Alex doing his best Jeter impression
Robbie doing a better Jeter impression.
A-Rod with the swinging bunt.
Jeter and A-Rod the cagey old vets stealing base hits tonight. Its that baseball IQ baby.
Nice cheapie for A-Rod.
“watching” on gameday
is this Os pitcher a real person or a Lewis Carroll character?
Just got back from a long lunch. Glad to see the game is in order.
Just got back from a long lunch.
/euphemism’d
No, not actually.
When we have too much availability, which is what’s been happening lately, they’ll send teams home early or give teams long lunch breaks. Now the downside is that after filling up at lunch I still have 4 hours of calls ahead.
Stop lying to us. We all know you left work for 4 hours to update the @MetsWeather twitter account.
Well, yea, I had time to do that too.
I posted that a tornado was set to hit the pitcher’s mound.
Do they call it a lunch break is it occurs at dinner time?
Do people who work for Lipton Tea get coffee breaks?
/Steven Wright’d
At my job, yes, it’s still referred to as “lunch.”

Dark Shadows, being remade by Tim Burton.
In the Callis chat today someone from Baltimore said it would make too much not to trade Arrieta for Montero and that both sides should do it. HA HA HA
Heroin is a hell of a drug.
He wants it to be one way, buts it other way
fuck I just butchered that. bit its the other way.
That ruined it
Alright time to sit a few plays out.
Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.
Heroin? Yes, yes it is.
When they bringing back Opium Dens? I think I’d like to replace a few Starbuck’s in my neighborhood with a nice, relaxing Opium den.
Get off my mound
another HR for Tulowitzki
how long is his contract?
7-8 I think.
10 years I believe
I’m going to be quite amused if AJ makes it through 7
A Jobalushi sighting.
that strike out was pure filth
I have a good feeling about AJ this year. Then again he did have a really good April last year…
He had a mirage April last year with an insane ground ball rate, low strikeouts, and tons of walks. He’s getting strikeouts and limiting walks this April which is much more important
Josh Johnson with a no-no through 6.
On my fantasy team. YAY!
So Yanks do not allow long hair or facial hair but CC/AJ/Joba sure do have alot of ink on.
Tattoos are individualistic whilst long hair is the sign of a tree-hugging hippy, and that just isn’t acceptable.
Oh.
more like you cant remove the tatoos and you can cut hair… is this a serious question lol? Were we not going to sign AJ and CC because they had tattoos on them?
Maybe you could argue joba but not free agents
Someone should get a beard and mustache tattooed on their face.
Conundrum.
Niiiiice!
oh thank god, #cured
So all Jorge can do is hit homeruns, I guess.
He’s kind of the opposite of Jeter, who seems to get nothing but infield singles, while Posada seems to only get hits that leave the park.
Jorge-don’t let the gray hair fool ya!
Hip Hip, Jorge!
Posada going all in on the slugging percentage
Jorge is either homerun or out. #Two true outcomes
20 HR’s for Yanks to lead league.
21 HR’s given up by Sux to lead the league.
/all is well
I’m really going to miss Jorge when he’s gone.
better than missing him before he’s gone, which I’ve been worried about
And you know what, turns out AJ has a three hit shutout going on. Whodathunkit?
…i’m having a discussion with a guy who’s making the claims:
a) bonds didn’t take steroids
b) even if he had, they wouldn’t help in baseball anyway.
so here’s what i need:
c) why am i still talking to this guy?
Steroids help. Love the we’ll never know for sure argument. Ok, so just because we can’t replicate the conditions of a non-steroid and steroid season and hold all other variables constant we can’t extrapolate some reasonable conclusions from the available information. Bonds was one of the best players of all time if he retired in 1998. Steroids sure wouldn’t have helped him have hand/eye cordination to hit a ball. Nature took care of that. But it almost certainly did help him do it a lot better. That being said he’s still a top 10 player of all time and deserves to be in the Hall.
Okay rant over.
Noesi for the three inning save? That’d be cool
Yes Modern Family is back. Sofia Vergara, I love you.
I used to watch some dopey show on telemundo or univision just because she was on it. My inability to understand Spanish was irrelevant.
I respect the hustle.
My inability to understand Spanish was irrelevant.
FACT: I’m fluent in boobs in every language on the planet.
No hitter broken.
Is AJ officially back to pimp form?
forget good AJ, this is like Cy AJ
CC just tossed 125 pitches the other day. Josh Johnson can toss 130 pitches.
Look at Edwin Jackson’s no hitter last year. He threw like 140 pitches
Well, yeah, but like 85 of them were balls. Those don’t really count.
Why? He could have been pulled .
I know, it was just a joke about the whole eight-walk thing. Still can’t believe that actually happened.
Yay, Brett looks at strike three… again.
Jeter looks like he’s back on form a bit. Too bad the guy behind him still isnt
4-3ter.
Not really. He’s still more or less waving the bat. He’s just not swinging with real authority to drive any balls.
Not one of his balls has landed in the OF yet.
That’s why I said a bit. Find the hole with the ground balls in order to make them effective.
I’m serious about Andruw.
I might be crazy, but I’m serious.
Gardner is 1-4. We are winning 7-0 and about to go to 6-4. Andruw Jones will remove any speed we have in the order. Gardner is a better defender at this point in their careers. 10 games in a row from Andruw and you’ll see things you don’t like such as more gidp’s. Brett has been frustrating but so have lots of good/great players after 10 games.
I would consider platooning right now, but that’s mostly it

Just to mention it: Alex won that NBA2K12 contest, so thanks to everyone who clicked the link and voted as we incessantly pimped it over the weekend.

I’m watching gameday, was that last double grandy’s fault or on AJ?
I just saw an article on yankees.com: “Yankees looking to expand Colon’s role.”
Girardi: “Hey Bartolo, we got a new role for you.”
Colon: “…does it have jelly?”
you misread it, it’s “Yankees looking to expand Colon’s rolls.”
they’re gonna fatten him up some more
“Yankees looking to expand Colon’s role.”
So many butthole jokes, so little time.
Looking at the issue with a Colonoscope.
PANIC!!
No… and Im the pessimist
He was over 100 pitches for the first time this season, he’s tired 110 when you’ve only thrown 87 max so far, his stamina hasn’t recovered
What happened to AJ’s 2-0 changeup?
/kidding
damn, I wanted AJ to throw 7 scoreless. How has Martin looked behind the plate btw?
3 wild pitches but they all hit his glove so if it was Montero…
AJ’s tired, take em out Joe, he did good
DRob and the 7 foot extension!
TWSS
Why are we pushing AJ with a fully rested bullpen?
They are getting DRob time to warm. And I agree with what Al said. He hasnt been in s stressful situation until now
we need to raise his era so he doesnt get too cocky. duhz!
because hughes is pitching tomorrow?
Still have Colon.
retardi
Really?
Don’t worry, if Girardi had pulled AJ, a plethora of pinatas would have called him “retardi” for pulling a starter who was dominant and in a groove.
There’s a flowchart, and the end of it is always “Girardi is a retard”.
exactly
Because if he never throws more than 100 pitches in a game, he’ll never be able to throw more than 100 pitches in a game.
errrrrrr……..
I’m thinking it’s time for a new pitcher. Just a thought.
good job girardi
They left AJ in too long. Get Joba, Soriano, and Mo warmed up.
Blame Robertson for not warming up quicker
Sigh. Was that really necessary? He was at 109 pitches. Cold night in April. Take him out, just take him out.
Bring in dah Joba…
I guess D-Rob’s okay…
yeesh
I also think that Girardi was playing the scoreboard. If it were 3-0 going into the inning, he would have a much tighter leash
Alright, get AJ out. Damn that last inning really inflated his ERA on what was a really good effort.
yeah it went from a 2.6 to a 4.79 with that inning….
What a shame the numbers won’t reflect how well Burnett did in the first six innings and show how poorly he did in the last one. Still a solid start for Burnett IMO.
I was literally just about to post the exact same thing. Anyone looking at the stat line tommorow will just look at it and say “same old AJ”. Very good start for AJ, just got left in too long.
Went from a good outing to a meh one.
Still a really good outing, can’t fault AJ for getting tired at 110+ pitches he shouldn’t have come out after the 6th, should have made use of Noesi for mop up
Boston would have taken that kind of performance any day of the week
I can’t help but think that Girardi left him in on purpose so they could go Joba Soriano Mariano.
/not really.
IT’S A CONSPIRACY!
I want to know where Mo’s birth certificate is? What is he hiding by not releasing it?
I have investigators in Panama; they cannot believe what they are finding.
Trick question: God doesn’t have a birth certificate. Though, if you checked, Mo is listed as the father on Jesus’s (Montero’s) birth certificate. FACT
oh, please let Joe have a page missing from his binder and let Joba get the save…
You cant blame the manager, he was breezing through and even after Wieters home run you couldnt have guessed Roberts was going to hit one with all his power…
Thank you
Because clearly in a wet and cold night in April it’s a must to squeeze everything you can get when the bullpen had 2 days off.
he was over 105 pitches when that homer came, AJ hasn’t thrown that many pitches this season (remember he was sick in his first start and only threw 87 in his first start due to illness and 99 in his next)
The team was up 7-0 going into the 7th, Noesi could have come in to do mop up work. It was not smart for Girardi to send him back out when the game was basically over.
Meh. Part of the job of the manager is to keep stetching the starter out. He was under 100 pitches. It was a good idea to have him go into the 7th and get up to the 105-110 range so he can actually go that far in a game without getting tired when we’ll really need it.
he was at 97 coming into the 7th, then after the walk he was at 105, then after the homer he was at 109 then after the 2nd homer he was at 112.
he you needed him to throw 105 pitches, he should have been taken out after the walk
In all seriousness I think AJ had a nice game…prob wouldn’t have pitchedthe 7th if we weren’t up 7-0
Punch it, baby.
markakis pulling a gardy. Get rid of him.
D-Rob shutdown the O’s fairly easily. Time for the Yanks to tack on a couple more runs and give SoMo the rest of the day off.
Soriano and Mo have had the last five days off. They need the work.
Although, Soriano and Rivera haven’t pitched in a few days so you might want them to get work
Good thing is the Orioles can only score runs via the homerun so they don’t really count
Jesus didn’t even get an XBH tonight…quick, trade him for Arrieta!
Ice cream cone? Come on Kay.
I just realized…AJ’s a genius! He had a shutout going, but Soriano needed work, and he can’t protect a lead of more than 3 runs…hence the two homers.
and Mo can get a save
AJ-ultimate team player. Girardi goes from retardi to smardy.
Oh SHIT ON. Kay got owned.
The Yankees need start doing this yesterday. Cowboy Monkey Rodeo
announced attendance 42,171
loooooooooool
I’m sure that many tickets wee bought.
I guess I still feel good about AJ’s start.
I mean, I didn’t see one pitch, I’m just going off all of you.
He was good.
lots of good offspeed pitches-mostly changeups which sunk for strikes and swings and misses.
I put in Posada as my DH following his multiple HR game. Nice to actually get something in return now.
Working late (not that late, I’m 3 hours behind), so I’ve only been checking the box score.
What the hell happened to AJ? Just got tired or did the wheels fall off?
Pretty encouraging if its the former.
He got tired
I think he was tired and just kind of mentally checked out
innings 1-2 were a little shaky
innings 3-6 he was filthy, change up looked very good
Weiters was sitting dead red on a 2-0 count and got what he was looking for. Can’t blame AJ since it was 7-0 in the seventh. Roberts hit a pretty good curve out to the Yankee bullpen. Give him credit.
Thanks all.
Anyone else fell bad for Aj sorts? He pitched so well until the 7th and then he looked mad at himself..,I just don’t want it to screw up his confidence (not saying he’s a headcase just that he has admitteed to confidence issues)..it also screws up his stats and makes him look less good
Was that a bunt Russell?
Please. Stop. Bunting.
and he hits into a DP
Of course, the alternative to bunting is ALWAYS a GIDP. Come on.
Well…
oh look what happened when he didnt bunt. If he gets it down gardy just has to hit a ball to the right side to score a run
Im sorry I dont think its a bad play
So many logical fallacies.
Ack, Martin has been awesome but it would be nice to tack on an insurance run
Actually, I’m not even upset he tried to bunt there, I’m fine playing for one run when they only have three outs left and we’re up. Gardner would have gotten it down, he’s much more gritty
Gardner swings at a 2-0 pitch! and a 2-1 pitch! and a 2-2 pitch!
/better since they were all strikes
but it’s ok that gardner is 1 for 5 tonight, because he’s not jeter, who’d be mocked for another bad performance
but “it’s early” for gardner because he’s younger.
do i have the orthodox line on this correct now?
No, Gardner’s been sticking up the joint and I’m not afraid to say it.
*stinking
At least Gardner was more aggressive and lifted the ball to an outfielder. He made adjustments.
those gritty aggressive guys cannot be judged by statistics
And Gardner only makes $15m/yr.
What the hell is this “nasty factor” thing on Gameday, and why is it consistently rating Mo’s cutter under 400?
yankees won
we finally get the story behind Mo’s high socks
He’s finally comfortable showing off his calves?
Mariano has asked the outfielders to play more shallow this year. No cheap hits from sawed-off bats.
Good game, Yankees.
Tied for first.
And we own the tie breaker!!!
*Angrily shakes fist* for beating me to the comment.

I’m on this Charlie Sheen shit.
Tied for first!
Sprinkles on top of the sundae:
Rockies 5, Debts 4
Why do you care what the Mets do? Leave the hater stuff for inferior fanbases.
everyone else in my family roots for them
The Exorcist takes over the Yankee booth?
That seriously creeped me the fuck out.
Haha yea, at first I thought we were being taken over by some alien being.
And it’s still going.
A Mariano strike out to end the game, love it
Is the audio guy drunk or something?
YES audio taken over by robots?
Hmmmm…maybe we really are the Evil Empire.
Glad YES finally took my advice and hired Soundwave to do postgame.
4 1/2 games ahead of the 2011 World Series champions… sweeeeeet!!!
ROFL!!!! I’m so stealing this!!!
All is right in Yankeeland.
At least until Hughes’ next 89 mph fastball right down the middle.
Tomorrows stat line wont be as pretty as it should be for AJ but we know he had a solid 6 innings. It just so happens that he hung two horrible curve balls to two lefty’s.
It was a fastball to Weiters. The curve to Roberts was not a hanger-it was middle/low and Roberts put a good uppercut on it.
I’m watching the postgame on MASN and it sounds like they won the game! Excuse me guys – they’re STILL THE ORIOLES!!!
Over all a pretty good game, sure there were some downsides but as usual here’s my take on tonight’s action
Postitives: FIRST PLACE BITCHES!!!!!!!! Alex, Derek, and Posada got going it was nice to see Posada get that mile stone and pass Scooter, Jorge’s kind of a dick and is prone to do some dumb shit behind the plate but I’ve always loved the guy. Robbie was Robbie, Martin had a good day despite the GIDP, Teixeira’s looking better and the bullpen was lights out.
Negatives: AJ kinda blew up in the seventh inning, Matt Weiters is going to take you deep occasionally because he’s Matt Fucking Weiters…but after that he kind of lost it. He threw a few wild pitches, but that was about as encouraging as a shit start will get. Gardner, my god…he looks lost at the plate, the one time he reaches base he gets caught stealing. I was worried about him coming into the year worried that because of his absolutely anemic power that pitchers would eventually start throwing him meat and dare him to do something with it. There’s about 150 games left so he has plenty of time to improve, but this is not encouraging.
Ian Kennedy is getting smoked, berkman just hit a grand slam off him, the dbacks are down 9-0 in the 3rd, and kennedy has a red beard
158-4
