That last thread sucked. Fresh start.

  1. bonestock94 says:

Buddy Carlyle sounds like an icecream man from 1952

  2. Mojo says:

    Oh good! Buddy’s back! Hooray.

  3. A-rod walkoff bomb please.

  4. jetrer says:

this thread isn’t off to a good start. Fucking buddy carlyle

  5. Cy Pettitte says:

    Buddy Carlyle, oy vey.

  6. Esteban says:

    Yay leadoff walk!

  7. mbonzo says:

Leadoff walk, always how you want to start your inning.

  8. Cy Pettitte says:

    put Swish on the mound

  9. Mickey Scheister says:

Throw the ball OVER THE PLATE!! GW can do it, Obama can do it. You get paid to do it, now DO IT!

  10. epy0n says:

Wait really? They start Buddy after he was a wild APE an inning before? What is going on right now?

    • bonestock94 says:

We’re nearing the end of the depth chart on May 11th, therefore Buddy Carlyle and Luis Ayala are our friends.

  11. Sunil says:

Ahh man. What a bad situation. I just tuned in, why are joba and soriano unavailable?

  12. Jose the Satirist says:

    Where is Joba?!?!?1!

  13. Mister Delaware says:

Buddy Carlyle needs to walk off the mound and not stop until he’s about 150 miles west.

  14. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Whatever you want Chris Getz. lulz

  15. Ray the Anti-Handle says:

Is Pendleton the only non-Joba reliever left?

  16. CMP says:

I hope they gave Ayala some of Colon’s stem cells while he was in Scranton.

  17. mbonzo says:

So who pitches if Ayala gets injured?
Joba would have to be seriously injured if he’s still unavailable.

  18. Mister Delaware says:

    Corona is gross.

  19. Mister Delaware says:

Except Pendleton can’t be called right back up unless someone is DLed. C’mon, Kay, this is like 200 level baseball.

  20. BigTimeBartolo says:

Yeah, so lets have Carlyle go back in for the 11th after blowing the tie in the 10th and already throwing 30+ pitches…

This guy Girardi, with yet another great move

  21. mbonzo says:

Free out, finally the Yankees get one after they’ve given so many away.

  22. V says:

So, uh, Ayala is back from the DL. He’s always been a 1 inning guy. Always. So… what happens if the Yankees don’t win the game in the 11th? Run Ayala into the ground? Ask Nova to warm up? What?

  23. V says:

That’s an out if Cano’s there.

  24. Esteban says:

Cano would have had it? Still good job by Nunez

  25. Sunil says:

I dont know though, I feel like in this situation, its worth it for Joba to pitch 4 out of 5 days as opposed to giving him having tonight off. He was on yesterday, pitched well.

The benefit of a stop here would have been a worth it in my opinion.

  26. Esteban says:

    Most frustrating game ever?

  27. Mister Delaware says:

You have to be fucking shitting me. Walk Melky to get Hosmer?

  28. Jose the Satirist says:

    What did Ayala just throw?

  29. bonestock94 says:

Second IBB that almost made me vomit.

  30. V says:

The Gardner bunt was the game.

    • Greg says:

The Gardner bunt helped to tie the game dummy. Carlyle’s walk was the game

    • JD says:

… are you serious? We got the one run off of Granderson. The bunt worked, what would have happened if gardner struck out and we never even got that run in? The game would have ended in that inning

Please explain to me how that ruined the game?

      • jetrer says:

Soria couldn’t throw a strike. IF Gardy walked (or got a hit) the game could be over now.

        • Chip says:

Yeah, it could be over with a Royals win

        • jetrer says:

When all you have left in the bullpen is shit, you should play for the win.

          • Greg says:

You play for the tie at home.

            • Chip says:

You also play for the tie with your crappy players up. You just make sure that the big boys can get a chance

            • V says:

Why? Who made up this bullshit? Odds of winning the game went down when that sac bunt was made. Odds of blowing up what was left of the bullpen went up. It was a bad move, and only ‘paid off’ in delaying the loss.

Martin is fast enough to steal second. When Gardner inevitably walks, then it would be (if Jeter were a good bunter) a good play to bunt the WINNING run into scoring position.

        • Esteban says:

Yeah gotta make Soria show he can throw strikes.

      • sangreal says:

What would have happened if he got a hit? a homerun?

      • V says:

What would have happened if Granderson grounded out? What ifs are stupid.

When a guy throws 7 of his first 8 pitches for balls, ‘give up an out’ is not a winning play.

  31. Pat D says:

Great, ESPN stopped updating the game status.

  32. Greg says:

Rapuano’s like “What the fuck is this?”

    • Mister Delaware says:

“Motherfucker. TGI Friday’s kitchen closes at midnight, I’m almost fucking sure of it. Dammit, dammit, dammit …”

  33. Chip says:

Ahh shit Mohegan Sun is going to be PISSED

  34. Esteban says:

    Poor read by Granderson

  35. YankeesJunkie says:

  36. Jeff Karstens, Male Model says:

God damn where’s our highly touted bullpen at?? When can I has it?

  37. BigTimeBartolo says:

Anyone but Getz on 3rd base and it’s a tie game. Just the way this whole freaking game has been

  38. JD says:

Oh look the sac bunt worked!

  39. King George says:

God, this is fucking pathetic. Outhitting the Royals by 8 hits and they blow the lead. Jesus.

  40. Mickey Scheister says:

Comeback Wednesdays! Two for one today! Michael…Joyner…clap…clap….clap, clap, clap!

  41. Jose the Satirist says:

Arod gets on. Nunez bunts. Swisher intentionally walked. Jorge blasts a walk-off. That would be sweet right now.

  42. Sunil says:

  43. Mojo says:

Ugh. I don’t even care if they lose now. Just let the misery end already. Walk-off, strikeout, GIDP, I don’t care. Still want to teabag the fuck out of Girardi though, even if he’s still donning his brilliant braces.

  44. Chip says:

O man, that looked soooooo good off the bat

  45. Damn, I thought it was a hit.

  46. Mickey Scheister says:

At least he hit the ball.

  47. Cy Pettitte says:

god this game is fucking terrible, I regret watching.

  48. Greg says:

We could have left the Red Sox 8 games out if we win these types of games

  49. Esteban says:

    Yankees need more homers.

  50. Sunil says:

just try to hit a single nunez, not tie it up with one swing

  51. I’ve changed my mind, this is worse than the Sorisplosion.

  52. Mickey Scheister says:

    Royals Bullpen > Yankees Bullpen

    • mbonzo says:

Yankees Bullpen is better, but when its managed so poorly I give advantage Royals.

      • Esteban says:

What exactly would you have done differently.

        • mbonzo says:

I mentioned it earlier. Logan should have pitched the 9th with Getz leading off. I also think it was terrible to have AJ start a game where Soriano and Joba are not available and Robertson and Mo are overworked. What would I have done? Made the decision to put Soriano on the DL or send Carrlyle down and bring up one of the AAA guys doing well. (DJ?)

          • Esteban says:

Who would you have started in his place. As it was, AJ went 7. Well maybe keep Logan for Getz in the 9th, but what would that have changed. Mo didn’t give up any runs, and Mo was gonna pitch the 9th inning and only the 9th inning as long as they were tied. But if Soriano doesn’t need to go on the DL? Then what? You don’t just play around with the roster like that.

            • mbonzo says:

Logan could have pitched the 9th and let what happened in this game linger on for another inning. Obviously I don’t know what would have happened, but Logan and Mo are probably the least used pitchers good pitchers going into this game.

As for Soriano, if you don’t want to DL him thats fine, but Carrlyle and Ayala should not be on the same roster with Soriano out for a week or so when the Yankees have 4 or 5 better options in AAA. He’s here because he’s expendable.

  53. V says:

Well, this umpire wants to go home. That was a ball.

  54. Mojo says:

Is the Royals bullpen really this beastly? At least they’ll all be burned out for tomorrow’s game . . .

  55. V says:

Congratulations, Joe Girardi. You are a fucking idiot.

  56. YankeesJunkie says:

I am guessing this will be a short recap.

  57. jetrer says:

    fucking pathetic

  58. And in the end, it’s just one game. And we still lead the East.

  59. wow says:

  60. BigTimeBartolo says:

The offense has just been excruciating to watch. Too many slumping bats. What a shitty game. So pissed.

  61. Xstar7 says:

Disgusting. What a waste of 4 hours and 40 minutes.

  62. Mister Delaware says:

Atleast the Celtics season ended tonight.

  63. Freddy's Mom says:

That was the worst game ever. I feel like that game just got shoved into a place I will not name. I mean, ick.

  64. Cuso says:

Swisher is garbage. can’t be said enough.

  65. Pat D says:

Well this game was just all kinds of suck offensively.

Can’t really expect the mop up guys to be the ones to nail down the game.

  66. BigTimeBartolo says:

I wish there was some way to look at the WPA the moves that Girardi makes in the late innings. I feel like all the dumb moves he makes added together cost us a couple wins

    • V says:

      Gardner’s bunt was -.062 WPA.

    • epy0n says:

It’s been proven over time he is an effective bullpen manager. Tonight was brutal though.

      • Mister Delaware says:

The bullpen was fine, he pitched who he had available in the right order. Carlyle or Ayala over Mariano in the 9th would have been the crime. But Jesus F., those sacrifice bunts …

      • BigTimeBartolo says:

It’s not just the bullpen stuff though. I mean I do feel like he babies the relievers too much and the whole “7th,8th, 9th inning guy” stuff is stupid. My problem is really with the fact that he keeps shoving the bunt down our throats when it continues to fail or not work out.

Soria was wild and Gardner was at 3-1. He could have very easily walked. Then with runners on 1st and 2nd, MAYBE you bunt, maybe.

  67. Jeff Karstens, Male Model says:

A wasted effort by (starting pitcher). That’s our mantra lately. Let’s get this thing rolling here Offense.

  68. Mike, may I suggest simply posting this for the recap?

  69. Rookie says:

Kudos to Girardi for sticking to his guns and not bringing in Joba.

I want my general to be willing to risk losing or even just outright lose some battles to avoid the possibility of unacceptable casualties and a greater chance of losing the war.

And he’s showing me he’s a learner — because he’s not making the same mistake he made with Soriano when he pitched him four days out of five.

Giving up a game like tonight for a greater chance to win over the entire season and in the postseason should be a no-brainer for Yankee fans, too.

    Kudos again to Girardi.

    • Esteban says:

      Logic FTW

    • BigTimeBartolo says:

Yeah but what about all of the moronic bunting, was that just a move to save the bullpen too?

    • mbonzo says:

This is what pisses me off.
Joba had Monday off and only threw 9 pitches yesterday. He threw 10 Saturday and 20 Sunday. 39 Total pitches.

Robertson threw 30 pitches Saturday and 26 yesterday. 56 total pitches. Plus, I’m pretty sure he warmed up Sunday. He’s available though?

This bullpen has been too overworked at this point and the Yankees could bring up some quality pitchers from AAA and give them some time. Noesi would have been a brilliant option tonight.

Robertson has now thrown a total of 77 pitches since Saturday. So there is no way I’m putting this in the lose column under a game we needed to use to save the bullpen. Allow me to stay mad at Girardi.

      • Rookie says:

I think you make good sense, mbonzo.

They needed a couple of temporary AAA options — including someone for the long relief role — although I hope they would have/will use them in ways that don’t hurt them long term. In other words, I hope they’ll use AAA relievers in short relief only and a AA or AAA starter on relatively normal rest only in long relief (i.e., as though they’re a starter). And they do need to be careful with Robertson’s arm, too.

I guess I’m just glad that Girardi didn’t pitch Joba in his fourth outing in five days.

I wonder why they chose NOT to have more fresh AA/AAA arms up?

In any case, again, mbonzo, I think you make good sense.

  70. Rookie says:

With Colon in the starting rotation, who (if anyone) would be logical to have in the bullpen as the long reliever? (until Silva and the other reinforcements Cashman scrounges up/trades for arrive)

    • BigTimeBartolo says:

I completely forgot about the fact that we don’t have a long-man in the pen. What possible value could Buddy Fucking Carlyle bring over Noesi or maybe even someone like DJ Mitchell in the long-man spot?

      • Esteban says:

Well they had Noesi up and he wasn’t being used and apparently the Yankees decided that he was better served in the minors.

        • Rookie says:

You have to hope that not having Noesi or Pendleton or another AA/AAA pitcher up was a well thought out/thoughtful decision based on prioritizing what was best for their development given roster spot considerations rather than oversight. I have no idea there.

Maybe somebody will, or even already has, asked Girardi that question.

  71. Will F. says:

    Montero anyone?

  72. Zack says:

They deserve this loss and ALL the grief they’ll get from it tonight.
Two for sixteen with runners in scoring position tonight.
KC only had FOUR hits, and made every one of them count.
Bottom line, we live and die by long ball.
