Buddy Carlyle sounds like an icecream man from 1952

    • jon

      and pitches like one

    • Mister Delaware

But the kind who fucks up your ice cream order. Possibly twice in one day.

  • Mojo

    Oh good! Buddy’s back! Hooray.

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

    A-rod walkoff bomb please.

  • jetrer

this thread isn’t off to a good start. Fucking buddy carlyle

  • Cy Pettitte

    Buddy Carlyle, oy vey.

  • Esteban

    Yay leadoff walk!

  • mbonzo

Leadoff walk, always how you want to start your inning.

  • Cy Pettitte

    put Swish on the mound

    • jon

          13th (inning)

  • Mickey Scheister

Throw the ball OVER THE PLATE!! GW can do it, Obama can do it. You get paid to do it, now DO IT!

    • Esteban

Can Obama do it? I only remember bad first pitches from him.

      • Jose the Satirist

No, he can’t do it well.

  • epy0n

Wait really? They start Buddy after he was a wild APE an inning before? What is going on right now?

    • bonestock94

We’re nearing the end of the depth chart on May 11th, therefore Buddy Carlyle and Luis Ayala are our friends.

  • Sunil

Ahh man. What a bad situation. I just tuned in, why are joba and soriano unavailable?

    • jetrer

Soriano’s earning his paycheck resting a sore elbow and Joba has pitched in the last three games.

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

    Please bunt.

    • http://deleted Total Dominication

      thank you

  • Jose the Satirist

    Where is Joba?!?!?1!

    • Esteban

      Cereally!!!!!1111!!

    • http://. Greg

Have you been looking at the thread?
      Three appearances in four days

      • mbonzo

In this situation, Joba should be pitching after Ayala unless he’s injured.

  • Mister Delaware

Buddy Carlyle needs to walk off the mound and not stop until he’s about 150 miles west.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Whatever you want Chris Getz. lulz

  • Ray the Anti-Handle

Is Pendleton the only non-Joba reliever left?

    • Chip

He’s long gone, Luis is all that’s left

      • Ray the Anti-Handle

        Not according to Gameday, apparently.

    • jetrer

only for Scranton. He got sent down today.

  • CMP

I hope they gave Ayala some of Colon’s stem cells while he was in Scranton.

  • mbonzo

So who pitches if Ayala gets injured?
    Swisher?
Joba would have to be seriously injured if he’s still unavailable.

    • Jose the Satirist

      I’d make Pena pitch.

    • King George

Dude, he has pitched in 3 out the last 4 games. You know about Joe’s notebook…notebook says keep Joba out of the game.

  • Mister Delaware

    Corona is gross.

  • Mister Delaware

Except Pendleton can’t be called right back up unless someone is DLed. C’mon, Kay, this is like 200 level baseball.

  • BigTimeBartolo

Yeah, so lets have Carlyle go back in for the 11th after blowing the tie in the 10th and already throwing 30+ pitches…

This guy Girardi, with yet another great move

  • mbonzo

Free out, finally the Yankees get one after they’ve given so many away.

  • V

So, uh, Ayala is back from the DL. He’s always been a 1 inning guy. Always. So… what happens if the Yankees don’t win the game in the 11th? Run Ayala into the ground? Ask Nova to warm up? What?

    • mbonzo

      Joba me thinks.

      • V

And after he throws an inning?

        • mbonzo

Nah, run Ayala in to the ground and if its still tied you bring in Joba.

      • jetrer

Joba won’t pitch today. Give it up

        • mbonzo

          So you let Swisher pitch?

    • Chip

Get Nova up is really all you could do

    • jetrer

Run Ayala into the ground. Who cares? He’s expendable.

    • http://danielslifka.wordpress.com Jerome S.

      A-Rod.
You know he can do it.

    • http://twitter.com/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Swisher, your new LHRP. Or your new 12th inning guy. Whichever you prefer.

    • Sunil

if we get out with allowing this run we still have a chance at it in the bottom half

  • V

That’s an out if Cano’s there.

    • Chip

No, too slow of a grounder and too fast a runner

  • Esteban

Cano would have had it? Still good job by Nunez

  • Sunil

I dont know though, I feel like in this situation, its worth it for Joba to pitch 4 out of 5 days as opposed to giving him having tonight off. He was on yesterday, pitched well.

The benefit of a stop here would have been a worth it in my opinion.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

No way. One game in May isn’t worth it if he needs the rest, which he probably does.

      • Mister Delaware

No way. One game in May isn’t worth it if he needs the rest, which he probably does.

    • Chip

A stop? This game is much less important than having one of your best relievers over-taxed. Plus, you can’t assume that Joba would be great, he could give the game up as well

  • Esteban

    Most frustrating game ever?

  • Mister Delaware

You have to be fucking shitting me. Walk Melky to get Hosmer?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Set up the GIDP. Ayala’s a ground ball guy, kinda had to do it.

    • Chip

It’s the right play, set up the force at home and make the rookie prove that he isn’t going to cave

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Now they should walk Hosmer to get to Maier.

    • Mister Delaware

I disagree with everyone here. I just want that on record. Melky does enough non-hitting / driving the ball into the OF that I’d much rather face him and hope that you’re just looking for a Hosmer out of any kind.

      • Mister Delaware

Exactly what I was worried about. Like to a fucking T.

        • Mister Delaware

You K Melky or he grounds out or he pops up or he flies out mid-to-shallow and that’s a flyout to end the inning.

          • Chip

Melky hits a homer to put them up by 3, see I can assume shit that didn’t happen too

            • Mister Delaware

Want to weigh the percentages he strikes out, pops up, grounds out or flies out to moderate-to-shallow OF versus him homering? I bet I have you 20:1.

  • Jose the Satirist

    What did Ayala just throw?

  • bonestock94

Second IBB that almost made me vomit.

  • V

The Gardner bunt was the game.

    • http://. Greg

The Gardner bunt helped to tie the game dummy. Carlyle’s walk was the game

    • JD

… are you serious? We got the one run off of Granderson. The bunt worked, what would have happened if gardner struck out and we never even got that run in? The game would have ended in that inning

Please explain to me how that ruined the game?

      thanks

      • jetrer

Soria couldn’t throw a strike. IF Gardy walked (or got a hit) the game could be over now.

        • Chip

Yeah, it could be over with a Royals win

        • jetrer

When all you have left in the bullpen is shit, you should play for the win.

          • http://. Greg

You play for the tie at home.

            • Chip

You also play for the tie with your crappy players up. You just make sure that the big boys can get a chance

            • V

Why? Who made up this bullshit? Odds of winning the game went down when that sac bunt was made. Odds of blowing up what was left of the bullpen went up. It was a bad move, and only ‘paid off’ in delaying the loss.

Martin is fast enough to steal second. When Gardner inevitably walks, then it would be (if Jeter were a good bunter) a good play to bunt the WINNING run into scoring position.

        • Esteban

Yeah gotta make Soria show he can throw strikes.

      • sangreal

What would have happened if he got a hit? a homerun?

      • V

What would have happened if Granderson grounded out? What ifs are stupid.

When a guy throws 7 of his first 8 pitches for balls, ‘give up an out’ is not a winning play.

  • Pat D

Great, ESPN stopped updating the game status.

  • http://. Greg

Rapuano’s like “What the fuck is this?”

    • Mister Delaware

“Motherfucker. TGI Friday’s kitchen closes at midnight, I’m almost fucking sure of it. Dammit, dammit, dammit …”

  • Chip

Ahh shit Mohegan Sun is going to be PISSED

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

    Damn.

  • Esteban

    Poor read by Granderson

    • Jose the Satirist

Do you think he rushed the throw because of the poor read?

      • Esteban

Yeah, and he couldn’t get into good position for the throw anyway.

  • YankeesJunkie

    FUCK…AGAIN!

  • Jeff Karstens, Male Model

God damn where’s our highly touted bullpen at?? When can I has it?

    • jetrer

who highly touted Luis Ayala and Buddy Carlyle?

      • Jeff Karstens, Male Model

        Bullpen. It’s read “bull-pen”. They’re all members.

      • Chip

Girardi should’ve put CC in, his stuff would play up out of the pen

    • Esteban

They’ve still given up, what 3 runs with two of the big arms unavailable. Not a terrible night.

      • Jeff Karstens, Male Model

3 runs in 4 innings of work, I would classify that as terrible. The only scoreless inning was the inning pitched by his Mo-ness.

        • Esteban

Meh, Joba and Soriano were unavailable. Buddy Carlyle and Luis Ayala are gonna give up some runs.

  • BigTimeBartolo

Anyone but Getz on 3rd base and it’s a tie game. Just the way this whole freaking game has been

  • JD

Oh look the sac bunt worked!

    • http://deleted Total Dominication

      What?

      • http://. Greg

Escobar bunted to get Getz to second

      • JD

The royals sac bunted, they scored a run

        • Esteban

          That’s not why they scored.

      • Mister Delaware

Because everyone who gets down a sac bunt would have a .000 OBP if allowed to hit away. The out + advance is the plate appearance ideal.

  • King George

God, this is fucking pathetic. Outhitting the Royals by 8 hits and they blow the lead. Jesus.

    • Esteban

Embarrassing! George would have fired somebody (during the game) by now!!!!

    • Sunil

The royals aint too bad this year. they’ve kind of got a solid squad.

  • Mickey Scheister

Comeback Wednesdays! Two for one today! Michael…Joyner…clap…clap….clap, clap, clap!

  • Jose the Satirist

Arod gets on. Nunez bunts. Swisher intentionally walked. Jorge blasts a walk-off. That would be sweet right now.

  • Sunil

AN AAAAAAAAAAAA BOMB FROM AAAAAAAAAAAA ROD

  • http://RAB Nuke LaDoosh

    we got this?

  • Mojo

Ugh. I don’t even care if they lose now. Just let the misery end already. Walk-off, strikeout, GIDP, I don’t care. Still want to teabag the fuck out of Girardi though, even if he’s still donning his brilliant braces.

    • Jose the Satirist

      Haha. This made me laugh.

  • Chip

O man, that looked soooooo good off the bat

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

Damn, I thought it was a hit.

  • Mickey Scheister

At least he hit the ball.

  • Cy Pettitte

god this game is fucking terrible, I regret watching.

    • Mickey Scheister

Four and a half of your life you’ll never get back, lost….in a terrible game.

  • http://. Greg

We could have left the Red Sox 8 games out if we win these types of games

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

How many games like this have they lost this season?

      • Jose the Satirist

        0

      • http://. Greg

1 or 2. I think they lost to Detroit like this a couple of times.

      • Sunil

the detroit series was frustrating but they’ve rebounded quite nicely from that.

    • Esteban

If the Yankees won every game they would be like 20 games in front of the Red Sox by now. They suck.

  • Esteban

    Yankees need more homers.

  • Sunil

just try to hit a single nunez, not tie it up with one swing

    • Ray the Anti-Handle

The way this night has gone, I say swing for the fences, boys!

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

I’ve changed my mind, this is worse than the Sorisplosion.

    • Mister Delaware

Its a worse combination of (seemingly) bad results and boredom, but its not a worse loss.

      • Mister Delaware

        Scratch seemingly.

  • Mickey Scheister

    Royals Bullpen > Yankees Bullpen

    • mbonzo

Yankees Bullpen is better, but when its managed so poorly I give advantage Royals.

      • Esteban

What exactly would you have done differently.

        • mbonzo

I mentioned it earlier. Logan should have pitched the 9th with Getz leading off. I also think it was terrible to have AJ start a game where Soriano and Joba are not available and Robertson and Mo are overworked. What would I have done? Made the decision to put Soriano on the DL or send Carrlyle down and bring up one of the AAA guys doing well. (DJ?)

          • Esteban

Who would you have started in his place. As it was, AJ went 7. Well maybe keep Logan for Getz in the 9th, but what would that have changed. Mo didn’t give up any runs, and Mo was gonna pitch the 9th inning and only the 9th inning as long as they were tied. But if Soriano doesn’t need to go on the DL? Then what? You don’t just play around with the roster like that.

            • mbonzo

Logan could have pitched the 9th and let what happened in this game linger on for another inning. Obviously I don’t know what would have happened, but Logan and Mo are probably the least used pitchers good pitchers going into this game.

As for Soriano, if you don’t want to DL him thats fine, but Carrlyle and Ayala should not be on the same roster with Soriano out for a week or so when the Yankees have 4 or 5 better options in AAA. He’s here because he’s expendable.

  • V

Well, this umpire wants to go home. That was a ball.

  • Mojo

Is the Royals bullpen really this beastly? At least they’ll all be burned out for tomorrow’s game . . .

  • V

Congratulations, Joe Girardi. You are a fucking idiot.

    • jetrer

yeah, the dumbass should have told his hitters to get hits with runners on base

      • V

When you’re having trouble getting hits when you have 3 outs to play with, it might not be a good idea to voluntarily give your guys only 2 outs to play with.

        • jetrer

i agree, but the Yankees should have put this game to bed long before the bunt

    • http://. Greg

      You are an idiot.

    • mbonzo

I know its an exaggeration, but I’m with you right now.

  • YankeesJunkie

I am guessing this will be a short recap.

  • jetrer

    fucking pathetic

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

And in the end, it’s just one game. And we still lead the East.

    • mbonzo

Absolutely, but let me hate on Girardi some more. Its hard to watch players perform so well, yet lose so bad.

    • Cuso

only by percentage points, though. Tampa won tonight.

  • wow

    ridiculous.

  • BigTimeBartolo

The offense has just been excruciating to watch. Too many slumping bats. What a shitty game. So pissed.

  • Xstar7

Disgusting. What a waste of 4 hours and 40 minutes.

  • Mister Delaware

Atleast the Celtics season ended tonight.

    • Esteban

      +10000

    • Xstar7

It’s gonna be a rematch of the 2006 NBA finals. Heat vs Mavericks

  • Freddy’s Mom

That was the worst game ever. I feel like that game just got shoved into a place I will not name. I mean, ick.

  • Cuso

Swisher is garbage. can’t be said enough.

    • Esteban

DFA or burn him at the stake?

    • Jeff Karstens, Male Model

Stat correction year after his career year last year. Lower them expectations.

  • Pat D

Well this game was just all kinds of suck offensively.

Can’t really expect the mop up guys to be the ones to nail down the game.

  • BigTimeBartolo

I wish there was some way to look at the WPA the moves that Girardi makes in the late innings. I feel like all the dumb moves he makes added together cost us a couple wins

    • V

      Gardner’s bunt was -.062 WPA.

    • epy0n

It’s been proven over time he is an effective bullpen manager. Tonight was brutal though.

      • Mister Delaware

The bullpen was fine, he pitched who he had available in the right order. Carlyle or Ayala over Mariano in the 9th would have been the crime. But Jesus F., those sacrifice bunts …

      • BigTimeBartolo

It’s not just the bullpen stuff though. I mean I do feel like he babies the relievers too much and the whole “7th,8th, 9th inning guy” stuff is stupid. My problem is really with the fact that he keeps shoving the bunt down our throats when it continues to fail or not work out.

Soria was wild and Gardner was at 3-1. He could have very easily walked. Then with runners on 1st and 2nd, MAYBE you bunt, maybe.

  • Jeff Karstens, Male Model

A wasted effort by (starting pitcher). That’s our mantra lately. Let’s get this thing rolling here Offense.

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

Mike, may I suggest simply posting this for the recap?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....re=related

  • Rookie

Kudos to Girardi for sticking to his guns and not bringing in Joba.

I want my general to be willing to risk losing or even just outright lose some battles to avoid the possibility of unacceptable casualties and a greater chance of losing the war.

And he’s showing me he’s a learner — because he’s not making the same mistake he made with Soriano when he pitched him four days out of five.

Giving up a game like tonight for a greater chance to win over the entire season and in the postseason should be a no-brainer for Yankee fans, too.

    Kudos again to Girardi.

    • Esteban

      Logic FTW

      • Jeff Karstens, Male Model

A win is a win is a win. This one counts the same toward the standings as each one at the end of September, I just don’t think any of us like to see them slip away when we had stronger options.

        • Esteban

Sure, but not at the risk of hurting Joba for the rest of the season. A hurt Joba can lead to more losses in the long term.

          • Rookie

            Exactly, Esteban. Exactly.

          • Jeff Karstens, Male Model

9 pitches in 2 days and he’s an injury risk?? LOL that’s a stretch. Whatever helps you to bend over and take this one though I guess…

            • Esteban

Why don’t you sit out a few plays champ.

              • mbonzo

Robertson needed more rest than Joba tonight. This bullpen is too burned out from the designated innings roles.

            • Esteban

And if Joba pitches tonight, what relievers are available tomorrow?

        • Rookie

          Stronger options like what, Jeff?

    • BigTimeBartolo

Yeah but what about all of the moronic bunting, was that just a move to save the bullpen too?

    • mbonzo

This is what pisses me off.
Joba had Monday off and only threw 9 pitches yesterday. He threw 10 Saturday and 20 Sunday. 39 Total pitches.

Robertson threw 30 pitches Saturday and 26 yesterday. 56 total pitches. Plus, I’m pretty sure he warmed up Sunday. He’s available though?

This bullpen has been too overworked at this point and the Yankees could bring up some quality pitchers from AAA and give them some time. Noesi would have been a brilliant option tonight.

Robertson has now thrown a total of 77 pitches since Saturday. So there is no way I’m putting this in the lose column under a game we needed to use to save the bullpen. Allow me to stay mad at Girardi.

      • Rookie

I think you make good sense, mbonzo.

They needed a couple of temporary AAA options — including someone for the long relief role — although I hope they would have/will use them in ways that don’t hurt them long term. In other words, I hope they’ll use AAA relievers in short relief only and a AA or AAA starter on relatively normal rest only in long relief (i.e., as though they’re a starter). And they do need to be careful with Robertson’s arm, too.

I guess I’m just glad that Girardi didn’t pitch Joba in his fourth outing in five days.

I wonder why they chose NOT to have more fresh AA/AAA arms up?

In any case, again, mbonzo, I think you make good sense.

  • Rookie

With Colon in the starting rotation, who (if anyone) would be logical to have in the bullpen as the long reliever? (until Silva and the other reinforcements Cashman scrounges up/trades for arrive)

    • BigTimeBartolo

I completely forgot about the fact that we don’t have a long-man in the pen. What possible value could Buddy Fucking Carlyle bring over Noesi or maybe even someone like DJ Mitchell in the long-man spot?

      • Esteban

Well they had Noesi up and he wasn’t being used and apparently the Yankees decided that he was better served in the minors.

        • Rookie

You have to hope that not having Noesi or Pendleton or another AA/AAA pitcher up was a well thought out/thoughtful decision based on prioritizing what was best for their development given roster spot considerations rather than oversight. I have no idea there.

Maybe somebody will, or even already has, asked Girardi that question.

  • Will F.

    Montero anyone?

    • mbonzo

      Where’s is he gonna play?
      He’s also 2 for his last 17.

  • Zack

They deserve this loss and ALL the grief they’ll get from it tonight.
Two for sixteen with runners in scoring position tonight.
KC only had FOUR hits, and made every one of them count.
Bottom line, we live and die by long ball.

    • Esteban

How many times are people gonna complain about an offense that lead the league in runs?

      • mbonzo

Bad luck happens with offense, but you can’t forgive the sacrifice bunts.

        • Esteban

That’s definitely an issue to criticize.
