Game 41: Rain in B’more
ByThe weather in Charm City isn’t great right now, but it looks like there will be enough of a window for them to get tonight’s game in. The Yankees and Orioles are already slated to play two doubleheaders this summer, no need to add a third. But then again it’s the weather, so who knows. They’ve had a pretty quick trigger when it comes to calling games this year, hell, the Mets-Marlins game was postponed last night even though it barely rained in the city. Anyway, here’s the lineup…
Derek Jeter, DH
Curtis Granderson, CF
Mark Teixeira, 1B
Alex Rodriguez, 3B
Robinson Cano, 2B
Nick Swisher, RF
Andruw Jones, LF
Eduardo Nunez, SS
Frankie Cervelli, C
Bartolo Colon, SS SP – heh, boy would that have been interesting
If the game is played, it can be seen on YES at 7:05pm ET. No more of that 6:40pm nonsense we dealt with last series. Enjoy.

Oh, please play the game so I have something to distract me from my calls.
It’s not as much fun as it was last week around here.
Boy would I love to see Colon at SS
I bet he could make the throw to first base. Unlike that other guy.
I would prefer that over having nunez there.
Tonights attendence in Baltimore is 86 people.
Time to 86 number 2. Thank you.
Is ARod going to get a day off anytime soon?
When he goes on the DL for hip issues later this week.
If he can’t play through a little bit of pain, he’s a pussy who shouldn’t be on my team — Nolan Ryan
/not really but probably true’d
He just had a DH day in Tampa. I know it’s not quite the same as a full day, but it’s not like they’ve played that many days in a row yet either.
Mike made that complaint yesterday and he proceeded to blast two homers. Let the pros handle it.
I’m sure his workload is watched very closely ever since he complained about not getting enough days off…in ’09 I believe.
Got home from my appendectomy just in time, Im hoping for a NY blowout even though I’m a fan of Britton- possible RoY?
My money is on Pineda
looking forward to seeing Bartolo tonight, think he’ll handle this lineup
http://johnsterling.blogspot.c.....about.html
The JohnSterlingBlogSpot is hysterical.
sensory overload
Over/Under 2 throwing errors for Nunez?
Over. In fact, double it, then multiply it by 7, then divide it by 1, then divide it by 1 again.
This choir sucks.
…eh, I could pull a better cartoon out of my a—aaHEY, WHOA! WASN’T THAT GREAT, KIDS?!?
LOL
#CURED
I like when Britton gets those kinds of ground balls.
I guess that’s the new way for a hit to be Jeterian
Chris Britton > Zach Britton. Fact.
god dammit
AWESOME!!!
Fucking double plays
Get a good look at him boys…
5 pitches 3 outs
ugh
At least we broke up the no-hitter.
Now we just have to break up the perfect game.
Now we just have to break up my marriage…
Mend it, don’t end it.
That could have possibly been the saddest inning I’ve ever seen.
Well, you’re young yet.
LOL!! that was funny.
5 pitches. At least we’ll wear him down by the 15th inning.
As soon as it looks good for Jeter leading off..
5 Pitches…at least they got a hit.
Remember, we’ve never seen this guy before. So this is to be expected.
we have.
I knew I shouldn’t have benched Britton.
nice AB from Jones, lol
Bartolo’d
Alright Colon. Finish off Markaikas.
Just like that. Vintage Less Fat Colon on display.
I can’t wait for interleague games so I can see some Bartolo ABs, lol
He’ll hit a 500 ft HR. Guaranteed.
CC and Colon both aren’t pitching against the Mets this weekend, which blows.
That series is in Yankee Stadium though. They don’t play in CitiField until the first week of July.
oh wait that’s home, nevermind
Even if they were, they’re playing in Yankee Stadium so American league rules still apply.
Woooo lets go Bartolo
BIG BARTOLO
That last strikeout from Colon was straight up nasty. 90mph Fastball over the plate that slides away. 0_0
GIDP time?
Kay might have a point
Watching the game on MASN Baltimore feed. Brooks Robinson 74 today. Tex and Jeter wished him a happy birthday. Tex called him Brooks. Jeets called him Mr. Robinson.
Is the thread broken or is nobody saying anything?
Colon >>>>>> CC?
Your mom’s broken.
Andruw Jones= useless
Don’t you love it when a player smiles when they fail…. definition of a winner…
Totes McGotes. I bet Andruw Jones WANTED to strikeout.
He was exploring the umpire’s strike zone. The info’ll come in handy later in the game…after Girardi pinch hits for him.
Smiling after making an out is like spitting in the face of Alexander Cartwright
Big swinger against a nibbler/sinkerballer. Not a recipe for success.
A guy stays light hearted after not performing. He’s either cool under pressure, or not taking things seriously
A guy gets angry after not performing. He’s either letting his emotions take control of him or showing how much he cares.
There’s two sides to every coin.
I would buy that reasoning if he was playing a tad better than his current batting line. Maybe it’s just me but I want to see some emotion when someone is playing badly… at least that way I can “see” that his shitty play bothers him.
Of course that wouldn’t stop me from getting on his case =)
I guess that’s better than a double play.
Gotta get that run in
Same old Yanks. Can’t do the little things.
They have the inability to play smallball properly
Totally embarrassing. This is why they’re not going anywhere this season. Blue Jays and Orioles might be better than them. TOTES.
damn, hardy almost screwed that up haha
The Yankees had a runner on second with less than two outs and didn’t score? That’s it, this game is over
Gloom-bagger’d
Where am I gonna put my Jorge figurine, that’s the question!
On the bench?
Sorry, had to.
Anytime they don’t have to rely on the homer to get a run would be awesome.
This is what the experts meant when they said that they hit too any homers. They rely too much on the homer. It reminds me of the 2005-2008 Yankees that made the playoffs but struggled
They don’t hit too many it’s just that the homer is the only way they get runs.
I think that the relying on the homer is what they meant
If that’s so, how do you explain all the bunting? Teams that rely on the homer don’t bunt. If you’re saying they don’t know how to hit singles with RISP or hit sacrifice flies, I don’t think that’s actually true, just random fluctuations in recent games.
It reminds me of the 2005-2008 Yankees that made the playoffs but struggled because of the pitching staff. .
Finished that for you.
And a lack of speed on the bases
How does a team ‘rely’ on homers? What does that even mean? Homeruns are the best possible outcome to any at bat. If they are leading in most offensive categories, how can you complain about the offense?
Right because this home run pace is certainly, definitely sustainable.
They’re just getting lucky? Maybe Granderson slows down, but ARod should pick it up. Who’s really hitting an unexpected number of homers beside Granderson?
The current Yankee HR/G rate is 1.575
For perspective’s sake the 1961 Yankees HR/G rate is 1.454
And the 2009 Yankees who have been downright nasty hit 1.478 per game.
Sure, but look at the individual players. I don’t see anything unsustainable. I also haven’t looked at the numbers, so I’m kind of talking out of my ass.
My heart skips a beat on every Nunez throw now
Nunez runs well and runs HARD.
I like.
Thought Nunez was gonna throw that over Tex. My stomach kinda dropped.
I hate you so much Luke Scott
+1
ARod terrible on those down the line popups. Should be caught.
Because the over-the-shoulder basket catch at the wall is a piece of cake.
Cody Ransom would have caught that
And then jump 60″.
So would Angel Berroa
Fuck Luke Scott
Luke Scott’s an asshole but he always manages to mash our piching staff.
COLON OH MY GOD
#Bartolo
Holy crap! Go Bartolo!!!
BARTOLO COLON IS MAJICK!!!!!!
Quick like a cat! That was awesome.
fatlike speed and reflexes
Bartolo F’ing Rules
el gato
Cy Colon.
Bartolo = BEAST!!
That was awesomer than any strikeout.
Quick veteran reactions right there. Colon put out his own fire. Love it!
That…really turned me on?
Dude in the T-Mobile commercial is such a tool.
Hey, is there any way we can get an option to automatically hide any posts from ‘first-named individuals’ such as Mr. Esteban up above?
Wow, I’ve been kidding. Please don’t lump me with those people. Please.
Sorry, shouldn’t have called you out, when Greg was the one being the total tool. Your ‘first name’ was more memorable
It’s cool It’s understandable since I was just trying to egg on Greg.
you got egg on gregg? what are you baking a cake?
LOL!
Esteban’s cool, dude.
I wish bartolo could teach aj how to field the position.
and CC and Nunez
At this rate, I’ll probably get to watch Duffy’s debut AND the whole Yankee game
too much good stuff tonight – this game, Duffy, Teheran
I forgot Teheran was pitching. I really should have gone with the premium mlb.tv package.
DUFFY GOT CALLED UP!?
He will be pitching in about 20 minutes
Of course Yahoo doesn’t have him. What the fuck.
Lol Jeter with the 4 foot dribbler
Getting tired of Jeter’s (infielder)-3 groundouts
A reminder for those who missed it yesterday:
A new design has been added to the RAB Store (www.cafepress.com/riveraveblues). For those of you who hate all those f’n bunts!
Why the fuck do they keep booing Tex? Did they really think he’d sign with them?
Teixeira told some reporter that of the five offers he received, the Orioles’ was BY FAR the worst.
What a classy guy.
Please don’t elaborate on the handle.
Thank you.
It’s his hometown.
colon for ROY
+1
.294 OBP? Who does this guy think he is, Jimmy Rollins?
hopefully all Bartolo will need
He’s back!
Fantasy baseball warning – I’ve now left 10 HRs on my bench this season. Weeee. Matt Joyce doesn’t hit lefties that well, so I sat him. What does he do? 2 run BOOM.
(I am in 1st in HRs, so can’t whine too much, but still
).
How can we keep getting the lead off man on and not push at least one run across? All we need is 1 for Bartolo.
Hustlin’
Alex planned that, one of the greatest baseball minds ever.
Yay-Rod.
A-Rod with the wheelz.
That should please the “manufacture runs” crowd.
Exactly
Is that the first time we’ve been the BENEFICIARIES of those errors?
Is it me or does A-Rod look at bit quicker running the bases this year?
That’s an unearned run, no? Because ARod isn’t on 3rd for the sac fly without the error.
I think it is. My fantasy team will appreciate that.
Ditto
I’m gonna have to trade this guy though. 1 K in 4 IP, 3 K in 9 IP last week, I’m going to enjoy it while it lasts, but eventually he’s going to have bad games if he can’t add Ks.
Gameday is calling it unearned. Def. should be unearned anyways
OMG Nunez with the perfect throw.
Practice makes perfect.
Practice makes permanent. If you practice incorrectly, you’ll never be perfect.
Sincerely,
Your Life Coach.
I’d pay $250/hr for that useful info.
/not
what’s up with all the accurate throws Nunez
Nunez throwing scares the bajeezus out of me.
Colon averaging <10 pitches per inning
38 pitches through 4 innings. Bonerrrrrr.
Colon is having a very good start so far.
BART BRINGING THE PAIN
He’s an ace. Bartolo Colon is giving us what we desperately need, low pitch counts so he can pitch deep into the ballgame.
I think your handle should be Chairman Mo.
man i really hope Jeter’s 3000th hit isn’t one of these dribblers
His 2,000th hit was.
Never have understood the round numbers thing.
I’m more interested in the names of the guys he’s passing.
3000 matters to me because he ties Clemente, not because it ends with 000.
don’t fret… it will be a bunt or a chopper that hits off the plate and bounces high enough for him to bet it out.
i gotta tell ya, i am impressed by this britton kid. his changeup sinker mix, while unorthodox, is undoubtedly unique and effective.
That statement is both shallow and pedantic.
big words give me headaches
Nobody is better than Bartolo, though
If only we had captain jack sparrow on our team…
LOL Kay — “WAIT A MINUTE, MY NIECE CHELSEA, RIGHT!?”
Bartolo. Straight up #FILTH.
Dealer has 21.
Dealing!
oh my
I can’t even say I’m surprised anymore
Heart you, Bartolo.
+ <3
i love bartolos composure. he just looks like he doesn’t have a care in the world.
oh, and his dominant pitching doesn’t hurt either
i like how he does his little clap when something good happens
He’s got the clap.
/double entendre’d
maybe stem cell treatments would work for my depression, anxiety, etc.
stem cell treaments cured an aids patient today, just read that in the news today
Wow. I can’t get over Bartolo. His signing was as good as Soriano’s contract is bad.
Peña should be consulted on all future signings
Pitch fast, throw strikes, good things follow.
/Bob Gibson
best pitcher on the team! stem cells are a miracle… they cured bartolo colon, and now aids
BARTY BRINGIN THE PAIN!!! JJ HARDY SIT DOWN!
What amazes me is watchin Cervelli’s glove. He doesn’t even have to move it on that two seamer. Bartolo is nailing his spots with it.
Yeah, to hitters it’s like big Bart is throwing it through a wormhole… and the far side of the wormhole is right in Cerv’s mitt. I approve wholeheartedly of this use of superior technology.
Fail, Alex.
ERRRRRRRRR, A-Rod. Shoooooulda stopped at first.
Not Alex’s finest moment.
fail. at least he hit it hard.
wtf was that Arod
WTF A Rod?
Derp Alex, just derp.
Lulz, nice try Alex
Fail-Rod.
sadtrombone.com
Now I fail
Crap, that was just silly. ARod wasn’t even in frame when the ball arrived.
I don’t think the hip is bothering him
Woulda been out @ Y.S.
Cano crushed that, long ass single
Well ARod is usually a great baserunner. Brain farts happen occasionally, can’t be *too* mad.
I will never forgive him for that out stretching.
NEVAR
I’d love to get a few more runs here…
Bring in Vin Mazzaro.
Or Dice-BB and Lackey
Huh?
Looking at the pitch count is making me giggle uncontrollably. I know it’s the orioles, but still.
I like these quick outs
Phil Hughes? who?
tradebait says what?
+1. I laughed hard.
Bartolo is the greatest Yankee that ever lived.
Big Bad Bartolo
Cy Bartolo
Holy Crap. 6?!
Anybody who ridiculed Cash for signing Colon ready to apologize?
only if he apologizes for Kevin Millwood, Pedro Feliciano, Kei Igawa, Chan Ho Park, and Latroy Hawkins first
Millwood was a backup signing. I give you Igawa, Feliciano and Park
Colon was a backup signing as well, but I see your point. He can apologize for letting Aceves go instead.
Millwood and Feliciano never actually hurt the big league club, so no apologies are necessary there.
Yeah, Millwood was a minor league signing. Can never fault the GM for those.
3.74/3.89/3.05 E/F/x in 43.1 innings. A 0.5 fWAR (2.2M) and 0.7 bWAR.
All for 900k.
(fistpumps)
Is 3.89 his FIP?
Yes.
E/F/x = ERA/FIP/xFIP
that ERA is down to 3.28, and counting
How is his WAR so low?
because he’s pitched less than 50 innings
All those long relief outings in relief of Hughes drag it down. Low leverage = lower WAR.
I don’t think anybody ridiculed him for that… it was a low risk shot in the dark, nobody seemed to really care
My son’s Red Sox fan buddy was all heckling me about the Colon signing. I love rubbing his fuckin face in it every time I see him.
The kid’s 11.
Lets take all our pitchers to the stem cell center. Especially Mo. He could pitch another 10 years.
You mean his elbow isn’t already bionic? I thought they put some sweet Dyson hardware in there when he had that surgery back in the 90′s?
6 innings played in an hour and a half.
Mike, is it too early for a Bartolo appreciation thread?
That’s like asking me if I want to jinx it.
Et tu, Axisa?
/recant
Bartolo will walk one guy with 2 outs in the eighth and Joe will bring in Boone for the 2 run HR.
I’ll have what Bartolo’s having.
Colon has a lower ERA than Cliff Lee.
Truth.
Cliff Lee who?
100 million dollars saved. Though with hindsight because they missed out on him they got Soriano…
it’s the stem cells.
Bunt time!
Happy Birthday to the straw that stirs the drink.
65.
Gardner should try to steal?
Nunez should bunt?
DONT FUCKING BUNT!
Buy the mug.
Steal then bunt
I think those pages may be stuck together in the binder.
I’d trust Nunez bunting over Nunez swinging.
Shoulda sent Bartolo up to hit a HR…
The bunt works! Omg
Yeah, how about no.
Works??? I thought the object of all of this was to score runs. If by works you mean successfully decrease your chances of scoring, then yes it did work.
Noony-gritty Girardi kind of guy.
Great great let’s always sac bunt into Cervelli forever.
If they had stolen before the bunt that would have been a sac fly, although they might have walked Cervelli to face Jeter.
“although they might have walked Cervelli to face Jeter.”
That’s sad.
Set up the DP for a man who hits ground balls
That bunt really made a difference in that inning.
They should have three runs in this game if they play small ball properly.
The cool thing about small ball is that you can play it 100% perfectly and still not score.
Unless if you are the Red Sox. They are just that gritty.
They should have three runs in this game if they hit 2 solo homeruns or one two run home run.
I love Joe Girardi.
Silly me. I thought Britton would struggle against the lineup so I benched him.
I deserve to lose.
You guys don’t get it, Girardi is just trying to start a trend that bunting in the AL is the cool thing to do…
ruh roh
Derek Jeter: The most overpaid player in baseball.
wow it took you a long time to come up with that one
I was yelling all off season the Yanks should take a much stronger stance in their negotiation with him (on this website).
Yes, you and 10,000 others.
Not true. Many if not most, were in favor of giving Jeter 3 years @ $15M or more per year. I took heat for wanting the Yankees to take a much stronger position.
“Many if not most, were
in favor ofresigned to the grim inevitability of giving Jeter 3 years @ $15M or more per year.”Fixed.
None of us wanted to pay Jeter 15M. Most of us knew that was what was going to happen, though.
congratulations on a job well done
Thank you!
Got a bad feeling about this inning.
Why can’t we score more runs for Bart?
Please don’t blow up here Colon.
And this is where not tacking on additional runs will once again bite them in the ass? Yes, no, maybe?
Really Swish?
God dammit swisher you freaking clown
Is Swisher drunk??
Swisher is drunk
really, swisher???
Are you kidding, Swisher?
Swisher has been drinking.
that’s like the 5th time I’ve seen swisher trip/slip while fielding in the last week… WTF is up
I missed it but what defensive lapse did Swish make this time?
That better not fucking let the Orioles tie the game
The Yanks: my new favorite national league team
Nunez with that stellar arm.
Nunez go fuck yourself.
Jesus christ Nunez…..almost got fucked there
Defense OMG.
thank you mark for saving another awful through by eduardo
There’s Nunez at work.
Dammit Nunez. You’re lucky Tex made that great tag.
Thank Mo for Tex…
Thank god Teix, nunez doing his best to get in his regular throwing error for the day
NUNEZ
LOL Nunez.
well he better strike the next guy out looking because this team is going to try like hell to little league this away
Bart is a pro.
don’t have a cow, man
You don’t have a cow…..man.
ay caramba
Bartolo is mind-bottling.
well, that ended a streak of 2 consecutive accurate throws by Nunez. I think that was his season high.
Colon should be 4-1 going into this game. He has done an awesome job.
“Who would have thunk”…. sterling’d
Bartolo doesn’t need your stinkin’ insurance runs
They should just start telling nunez to start throwing grounders to tex
Does anyone here honestly think swisher should look into new cleats? That’s 4 of 5 times his footing has made him look like he’s mixing benzos with alcohol.
This Colon character is an absolute maniac. Can’t believe nobody ever noticed him until now!
Was Nunez that bad at throwing in the minors?
look at that pitch count Greg Madddux eat your heart out
Not even Yankee Defense™ can stop Bartolo!
Bartolo for the shutout!!
think Joe would actually allow him to in a <3 run game? I don't remember that ever happening
I was gonna say the same thing. Didn’t wanna jinx it.
Yeah save Mo for other close, low scoring games.
68P/7IP = How it’s done, son
Phil Hughes better be watching some damn tapes of this man.
There are plenty of tapes of other pitchers available. Guys like Bob Gibson and Greg Maddux come to mind.
/easier seen than done
Out-of-town update:
Phil Coke is shutting out the Red Sox through 6 innings.
Phil Coke is so hot. Handlebar mustache and all…
But the freaking Tiggers can’t score against Buttholds.
Bartolo-mania.
maybe he’ll be a balloon at the next Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Dude that would be amazing.
el barto
I hate to say it but I’m thinking it – so here goes. Is Bartolo doing this naturally or is his unbeleivably great performance this year PED enhanced? Just wondering. I’d like to think not. But . . .
Don’t go there, son. Just…don’t.
It’s not like Bartolo just randomly hit 54 HRs last year.
well, he has been eating more
Don’t PEDs usually make fat guys lose weight? Just sayin’.
The stem cells, OTOH….
they make you fatter, especially if you don’t work out
They already looked into that. Its the stem cells
Stem Cell procedures aren’t exactly natural. Its all about personal opinion. HGH is naturally found in the human body, but its not natural when you add it. Stem cells are naturally found in the human body but is adding it to an injured area natural? The line can become very thin.
If you’re asking if he’s on HGH or steroids, I highly doubt it. A doctor doing research on how his new procedure fairs with a major leaguer is not gonna want other factors getting in the way of results.
I fucking benched Britton because of this offense? I’m a fucking moron.
Guess hitter A-Rod takes hanging slider down the middle
Showalter gets thrown out of this game.
wooooooooow this is amazing
Should’ve been out on the prior pitch anyway, Hardy.
This is fucking amazing.
BARTOLO FOR PRESIDENT!
Those O’s are jealous of Bartolo.
BARTOLO BRINGING THE PAAAAAAINNNNNN…. ORIOLES HITTERS CAN’T TAKE IT
Damn, Bart is gonna have to go out to the pen after the game to get his pitch count up.
Reminds me of the vid with the MIA track…
Take your moneeeey!
Love me some big Bart!
that 96 riding in on Reynolds just wow
Does he stay in for the 9th, or do they go to Mo?
Right now I would not give the ball to Cy &$*%& Young for the ninth.
But would you give it to Mo?
I laughed…. but no.
What, you have to throw a no-hitter to get a CG under Girardi? The man is working, leave him the hell alone (and if you insist on visiting the mound, bring a Krispy Kreme for his ass)!
Oh my that was dirty.
girardi better frickin’ not take bart out
Holy fuck this guy is making me L O fucking L.
That walk costs him the chance at a complete game
No way. He could throw ten innings with this pitch count.
Reynolds should’ve been out after strike 5
I <3 Colon
Where did that miss you blind piece of shit?
Exact same pitch for Mo’s sake.
This defense is atrocious.
wow…….come on Colon.
Yep, there’s Cervelli.
Oh boy…. here we go.
Dammit Cervelli
97… Stem Cells for Hughes?
Cervelli you fucking suck. If you ruin Bartolo’s masterpiece I will end you
God DAMMIT!!!
he’s thrown a fastball on the outside corner like 15 straight pitches lol
COLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON
strikes out the side
hahahahaha…bye Ardino.
Holy shit Bartolo…
BREAKING BALL SURPRISE!!! SIDDOWN ANDINO!!
Big pitchin’ throwin’ heat.
BARTOLO!!! STRIKES OUT THE SIDE HOLY SHIT
EL BARTO!
Keep him in.
Bartolo is “El Guapo.”
Francisco Cervelli is not a bad guy he’s just in the wrong line of work.
Let see if Girardi has the cajones
Bartolo “I don’t need no stinkin’ defense” Colon
For as good of a job as I was about to give Frankie credit for on framing all those pitches, who gives a fuck if the guy steals second??? You had 2 strikes on a guy with two outs let him run his ass off. Don’t risk the error.
false. you have to remember this is still a one run game, a runner at second vs. a runner at first is a big difference
BARTOLO. COLON.
I understand that the greatest reliever in baseball history is in the bullpen, but I swear I’ll kick Girardi’s teeth in if he doesn’t send Colon back out for the ninth.
I would let Colon start and bring in Mo if he gets in trouble
Let’s get him some tack-on love to make the decision easier.
I can’t remember ever not wanting to see Mo in the 9th of a 1-0 game before.
Bartolo deserves a chance to complete the ballgame. It’d be nice to get a run or two here to make it easier on Girardi. Get Mo warmed up and if a runner gets on bring in Mo.
Bartolo broke RAB
C’mon, insurance!
If Girardi doesnt let Bartolo go for the shutout, I will destroy something
Score three runs here and even Girardi won’t fuck up the decision.
Mo warming up…..hmmmmmm
I think its exactly what Kay said. If Colon gets into trouble, ring in Mo.
Mo is up. Dammit. He’s only @ 90!
It’s also only one run.
As good as Bartolo has been, a fresh Mo is probably a better option.
Winning this game >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> achieving any personal statistical accomplishments for Bartolo
Saving a 41 year old closer bullets helps win the war. The offense isn’t hitting, if they somehow get a lead it’ll be close. Mo’s gonna be needed a lot. Save the bullets.
Mo has faced 6 batters in the past week.
He’s got plenty of bullets. He’s not taxed. Frankly, he needs the work.
JOE SIT MARIANO DOWN RIGHT THE FUCK NOW. BARTY IS NOT COMING OUT.
Getting rather stormy here just south of B’more…
KLong needs to have a more forceful heart to heart with Cano.
Cano’s plate discipline is atrocious. I don’t remember him swinging at that shit last year.
Bartolo needs to sit on Joe until he lets him go for the CG
hahahahhaa, IETC
People are worried about Montero’s defense but I can’t believe it can be any worse that Cervelli’s.
He has been just putrid behind the dish this year. Unless Montero starts throwing balls into the center field bleachers, he’ll be no worse.
Thank you.
People are worried about Montero’s defense but I can’t believe it can be any worse that Cervelli’s.
Oh, it most definitely can be.
Maybe if he got behind the plate with a fishing net instead of a catcher’s mitt.
Otherwise, I can’t believe it.
Time to pinch hit Dickerson for Swish.
/becoming sadder every day.
Gotta keep Colon in the game until a runner gets on, then it’s Mo time.
I will cry if we lose this game.
Big, ugly, man tears.
I guess it would be pretty stupid to risk it. We’d probably be scalding Girardi’s ass for leaving him in if he blew the lead. It’s the right call, IMO. Much as I’d LOVE to see Bart finish it…
someone make a gif of Curtis please, lmao
ohhhhhh BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Joe you suck
Looks like Bart’s done.
YOU’VE GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!!! HE’S AT 87 PITCHES!!! JOE GIRARDI THIS IS THE LAST STRAW!
Christ Girardi. The way the Yankees are hitting Mo’s gonna be needed for another game.
Oh come on, send him back out.
It’s gonna be mo.
Looks like Bartolo is done, what a joke. Give him a chance Girardi. If someone gets on then you take him out.
Would like Bartolo to stay in. But Mo is Mo.
i am sooo mad right now.
Damn it. I really wanted to see the CG. God i love watching him pitch. Nothing against Mo but this is Colon’s day.
the biggest crime a yankee manager could ever make is losing a 1 run lead in the 9th with mariano on the bench (assuming hes available).
bring mo in.
The binder DOES NOT BEND!!!!!
OMG Girardi you are a moron I FUCKING HATE YOU
You cannot be serious.
Going to a fresh Mariano Rivera to preserve a one-run lead is pretty much never the wrong decision.
I wanted Bartolo to finish this too, but this move is totally the right one.
your right, if he’s gonna take him out, at least it’s for Mo. I still think he should have let Bart go out there for the 9th, give the bullpen a day off. BUT TEH BINDER SAYS BRING MO IN
The binder has nothing to do with it. 99% of all big league managers would put Mo in there, because it’s the right move.
Bringing Mo in is never a moron move. Both alternatives were fine by me.
Every word of that.
You’re just criticizing for the sake of criticizing.
If you’re Girardi:
If you bring in Mo, there’s very little to second-guess. It’s Mo.
On the flipside, if you leave Colon in and (g-d forbid) something goes wrong, you’ll never hear the end of it.
“How do you leave the best closer in the history of the game in the ‘pen?!” Yada, yada, yada.
Boooooooooooooooooooooooooo Joe.
So who IS that guy relieving Spike Lee in that ice cream commercial anyway?
Meh, whatever. Just get the win.
Do you question the might of Rivera over Colon?
Seriously, when was the last time a Yankee pitched a 9 inning CG?
CC did once in 2009. I’m surprised he was allowed.
Colon is fucking hilarious
but he won’t even watch the 9th? lol
We’d all love to see Bartolo finish the game but if your life depended on it you’d go to Mo. I know I would.
amen brotha, its the right call
The Yankees offensive output today has been pitiful. I really hope Bartolo can nail this thing down in the ninth.
Or Mariano. Whatever works.
Mo>Colon
I’m glad the chances of getting a no hitter or perfect game are close to nil because Girardi would take them out in the 8th anyways.
he wouldnt take them out of a perfect game… a no hitter, maybe.
are no hitters really a reason to leave a guy in when hes tired? i mean they happen multiple times every year. is it really THAT big of a deal anymore?
Dickerson/Golson/Maxwell all better RF options than Swish. If Swish could hit, he’d make a fine DH.
Ah well.
This may have been literally the first time ever that I have not wanted to see Mo (PBUH) in a save situation, however.
Pretty silly to put Mo in when Bartolo was cruising.
no, it isnt.
Yes it was.
LOL.
you can’t be serious.
GOD FUCKING DAMMIT!!!! BARTOLO SHOULD BE OUT THERE!!!!
Holy Shit, this one is gonna hurt like hell.
If we lose this ballgame Girardi should be fired on the spot. You do not take out a pitcher who is dealing with 87 pitches thrown!
you people are insane, its mariano.
I dunno ’bout firing Joe G, but taking out a pitcher with Colon’s line tonight is one of the worst instances of formulaic managing I’ve seen in a while. Even if it is Mo you’re bringing in. Ugh.
oh helllllll no.
Please Mo, as much as the Yankee offense doesn’t deserve this win, Colon does.
Dammit.
tense times….
Christ, Jesuz variety.
What the fuck
Unbelievable.
fuck this shit
FIRE GIRARDI
shit
HAHAHAHAHAHA.
AW HELLLLLLL NO!
I feel comfortable saying this: It’s just been this kind of season so far.
Shocking.
you’ve gotta be FUCKING kidding me.
Fire that spineless jellyfish Girardi. Bartolo should have been able to complete that game, he was dealing. Now we don’t have an arms in the pen! Way to fucking go Girardi!
Shoulda IBB’d him and brought in D Rob amirite?
/Sorta joking
This is why he should’ve sent Bartolo back out. The best part of the bullpen isn’t available in case this goes to extras. (And I’m not just saying this in retrospect, I said this on the phone before the blown save.)
tense times….three blown saves for Mo before Memorial Day. Look for ESPN to run a story how the Steinbrenner’s are pissed and ready to cut ties…
But, this team is still mired in mediocrity…. ugh!
Well, that sucked.
Girardi should be made to clean the hotel rooms of French aristocrats.
GOD DAMMIT GOD DAMMIT GOD DAMMIT!!!! THIS IS WHY YOU LEAVE A PITCHER OUT THERE WITH 87 PITCHES!!!
seriously, totally rationally, i get that mariano is the best. i get that he’s better than bartolo in 99.99% of times, but not this one. we’ve seen bart knock them all down all night, we don’t know what mo’s form will be tonight. that’s why you stick with bartolo!!
Girardi is unbelievable
Would have rather seen Bartolo blow it then see Mo blow it.
This.
Why? So you could then say, “Why wasn’t Rivera in the game?!”
Blown is blown.
So wishing for Colon automatically makes you somebody who bitches? Good to know.
Yeah….no. Not what I’m saying.
What I am saying: Who gives a shit who blows it?
I understand both moves. 87 pitches though. 87! If you’re not gonna let a pitcher complete a game with 87 pitches, you never will.
He just used Mo back to back days for no reason. Why did Joe use him in Tampa?
I feel bad for Bartolo. Exquisite game from him.
Girardi is an Asshole. I don’t care how good Mo is or used to be, with only 87 pitches thrown, there is absolutely no reason not to let Colon go back out for the 9th and let him go until a runner got on base.
The Yankees will bring the go ahead run to the plate in this game.
Girardi blows at least 10 games a year by his mismanagement. Fire the bastard. There was no logical reason at all to take bart out. A fucking (typical) dumb move
LIFE IS PAIN
So is Noesi still in the pen or did I miss something?
All the blame for this game is on the offense. Not Girardi, not Rivera, the offense
You are kidding of course aren’t you or are you just as dumb as Girardi?
Read my post dumbass
This is not on Mo – well kind of – but once again on this behemoth offense capable of scoring 1 run while simultaneously going 0-5 RISP and leaving 6.
That’ll never help correct a losing streak but just start another one.
Count me in on the blame Girardi train tonight.
He’s a spineless jellyfish. He refuses to do anything about Jeter hitting leadoff. He didn’t want to make the more risky move and leave Bartolo in there. Now nobody in the media will question him if they lose. 87 pitches thrown, they hadn’t even touched him.
Core Four = Shit
Two first ballot HOFers and two borderliners disagree. Also, five titles.
Oh literal Jim!
Currently, they are shit. Two of them gave up on their team this year (Pettitte, Posada), one threw a fit because he was worried he wasn’t going to get an insane contract to play like shit and gave up on fixing his swing (Jeter) and Mariano is falling apart (and he’s a filthy Christian).
Now that Mo has blown the save, we fucking have Logan and Ayala available in the pen. Bartolo was at 89 pitches and had been in control the whole game. His stuff was still good. Mo could have used a day off as well.
I hate you Joe Girardi, I fucking hate you. Lets hope the offense picks us up and doesn’t waste this masterpiece from Colon
Did Kay really just say don’t blame Girardi cuz he’s not paid to think?
All of you blaming Girardi are nitwits. Michael Kay just put it exactly right. This is all on the offense or lack of
That, and Mo, for not doing the job he’s tasked with doing.
It’s never a bad choice bringing Mo in, but there’s no reason Colon wasn’t out there for the 9th.
The biggest sweat Bartolo broke in this game was watching the 9th inning.
Joe G manages by the book and the book says Mo and the book says bunt!
This exactly.
any chance Jeter actually does something clutch here
of course not
I guess he doesn’t get paid enough to do that anymore.
Phil Coke – 7 innings of shutout, 3 hit ball against Boston so far, lol
That’s baseball
And Derek can’t hit an 89 mph fastball down the middle.
It’s okay…He’s only signed at 16 per for three more years plus a player option.
So basically all of you dumbasses are saying that you dont trust Mariano Rivera. That’s basically all that you are saying.
This dumbass is saying, leave the pitcher in who isn’t overworked and cruising. You give Mo some rest and we keep in a guy who we know is having a good day.
This. Times twelve.
Exactly. What if Colon blew the game? What then? Would you criticize him then?
No considering I said this before Mo even gave up a hit.
http://riveraveblues.com/2011/.....nt-2069235
If I was Joe I would have told Colon to get out there and told Mo to start warming up slowly in case he needed to extinguish a fire in the 9th.
No, who could possibly criticize him for leaving in a guy with 87 pitches under his belt, with no signs of tiring. Some people just can’t see the obvious
Why is it assumed he magically blows the game?
Why is it assumed that he doesn’t. It got close in that eigth inning.
+40.
look, i’m not saying i knew mo would blow the save. in fact, i was pretty sure that he would lock it down. but bartolo was freaking dealing. the walk was BARELY a walk. and he was nice and warm too. i dont know, maybe it’s because bartolo is on my fantasy team, but i really think he should have at least been allowed to go batter to batter.
No idiot, Girardi plays it so by the book that he’d have put in mariano even if Bart had a perfect game going.
I’m saying that when your SP strikes out the side in the 8th and is < 100 pitches, send him back out.
Come on Grandy.
Sucess Jeter and I’m not sarcastic. I’ll take the K over the GIDP.
Well, Bartolo gets screwed again either through poor offense, defense or bull pen. He deserved better.
No win situation for Girardi. If Bartolo went out for the ninth and gave up the lead, everyone would be asking why Girardi didn’t go to Mo. You bring in Mo and he blows the lead, everyone is asking why Girardi didn’t stay with Bartolo.
Tough situation for a manager.
Not really. Since everything is defined for a manager you really don’t need to change. It’s tough if your an NFL manager for example who actually has to call plays, switch schemes, cycle players, examine opposing schemes and make a billion adjustments.
An MLB manager nowadays can do everything without actually watching the game.
So are people actually mad about bringing in Mariano Rivera in a 1-0 game to start the 9th?
yes. beyond mad.
When the starter has plenty of pitches left and has been in the zone? Sure, we were before he even blew it none the less.
This!
It’s more not letting Bartolo pitch the 9th with only 87 pitches and he had shut down the O’s all night.
Ayala being Ayala
Ayala being Ayala. Again.
GOD!?!?! is a shell of his former self.
Frustrated that Girardi would turn to an overworked bullpen when he had Bartolo cruising through 8 IP. I’ll take Mo in any 9th inning, but to me its obviously a better strategy to send Colon out there.
We aren’t gonna win many ballgames if our manager keeps taking out starting pitchers who have given up 0 runs and have only thrown 87 pitches. Bartolo is a big man capable of throwing more pitches. And now our fate rests on the arms of Ayala and Logan when we could have put it on the arm of Bartolo. Girardi’s gotta go.
You are totally right!!
Fortunately there won’t be many games where the starter has given up 0 runs on 87 pitches heading into the ninth so the Yankees probably don’t have to worry about that.
Oh yeah, it’s Ayala time!
This team is just bad right now.
Maybe after Memorial Day the offense will show up. This is now week three of total suckiness.
I got 10 bucks that says Ayala blows this game in the 10th.
I hope not. But I’m dreading it.
87 pitches and an expansive strike zone. No, this is not on the offense. It’s on Joe. Awful IN GAME manager.
So glad he brought Mo in last night up 6-2 in the 9th with 2 outs. Another no guts decision.
Agreed. Not leaving in Colon was a chicken shit move.
It’s cowardly to bring the greatest closer in the history of baseball into a one-run game in the ninth inning?
…
…
When Colon has thrown just 87 pitches in 8 shutout innings and struck out the side in the 8th inning while still throwing in the mid 90s to bring in Rivera who hasn’t exactly been automatic this year, YES.
Cowardly? How is it cowardly?
It was the easy thing to do, totally lacked any thought, a knee jerk reaction.
And why was it the “easy thing to do”?
See where I’m going with this?
Yes, try using some game-perspective Pasqua, not all ninth innings come about equally, and Colon was just way too much for the O’s tonight.
“Try using some game-perspective.”
Oh, okay. Let’s see. I FUCKING REPEAT: 1-0 game. 9th inning. Mariano Rivera available. Decision made.
How is somehow MORE irrational to believe that Mo will protect that lead than it is to believe that Colon will not give up a run?!
Colon was dealing. So what?! Does that guarantee the same result in the ninth? No!
Why not rest a bullpen that has been overworked all season long when your starter is handling the opposing lineup? Colon only threw 87 pitches. Rivera has been used a little too much in my opinion, and we’re only in mid-May.
And I can respect that opinion. I disagree, but that’s me.
You’re an asshole. A dumb asshole at that.
Easy, killer.
How is this not on the offense??? This team should be able to manage more than one damn unearned run.
Girardi is not the best manager period. But, he won a world series so basically he walks on water, for now.
Jeter whiffs on an 88 mph junkball.
I have been a fan of Jeter ever since i was a lil kid. The guys been my favorite player for the last 15 years but i cant stand this version of jeter. If i have to go through the next 2 years of seeing jeter ground out repeatedly and act like he actually deserves to lead off the game then i would rather have him released.
It’s actually 3.75 years. Yes, it’s going to be very difficult.
going to remind me of Bernie Williams at the end
This is NOT on Girardi People. The game is 1-0 remember with Colon at 89 Pitches. You have the greatest Closer EVER in the pen. Its a no brainer to bring in MO to finish the game. He didn’t do it, and you know he’ll take the blame.
I do agree this is on the offense for not producing Jack tonight. Their only run they can thank the O’s defense.
Great Game Colon!
Totally agree.
But why take out a guy who’s cruising with a relatively low pitch count? He’s the sure thing at that point. Even the great Rivera can have a bad night so why risk it? Girardi seems way too fixated on not letting pitchers go the distance. Granted, last week, when AJ’s pitch count was past 100 in the game he gave up a lone hit in 7 innings, the move was debatable, but tonight was inexcusable.
Oh, and once your closer comes in—unless it’s a tie game at home—it’s no longer on the offense: he’s there to preserve the win. Period. Got nothing but love for Mo, but this is on him and particularly Joe G.
It’s NEVER a sure thing. One inning (or eight, for that matter) is not indicative of the next. I can appreciate the desire to see Colon finish, but it was just sa much of a question mark for Colon as it was for Rivera (which, granted, was not much of one…I thought.)
What purpose does Noesi have on the roster if this isn’t a spot for him?
Depth.
Depth is a purpose.
Watching some of you call for Girardi’s head because he brought Mariano-fucking-Rivera into a one-run game in the ninth inning is more upsetting than any blown save. I weep for the future.
This.
Or maybe it’s that Bartolo Colon was so dominant tonight that he was even more dominant than Rivera could have possibly been?
It’s a wet night, the field is damp and players have been slipping on the grass. There is no guarantee that a pitcher coming out of the pen is going to be sharp right away. Colon, on the other hand, was as unhittable as a pitcher could be in his start and had only thrown 86 pitches.
Girardi’s problem is that he refuses to be unconventional. Both of your set up men are unavailable tonight, and Mo has pitched in 2 of the last 3 games. At least give Bartolo a chance to start the 9th, and if he gives up a leadoff walk or something then you go get him.
He could have easily finished that game himself. You don’t just take a guy out because it’s “not his inning” if he just struck out the side and showed no signs of tiring.
Perfectly said, Matt.
Fine. Fine. Fine. That’s a fine opinion to have. My issue lies in the fact that people are aghast that Girardi brought Mariano Rivera (Mariano. Rivera.) into a one-run game in the ninth as if he is some two-bit middle reliever.
People are getting so hung up on Colon’s 8 innings that they are failing to consider that virtually everyone, when asked who they would want on the mound for a must-have, must-win inning, it’s Rivera. Not Bartolo.
Try to understand the fact that people are pissed at Girardi NOT for bringing in Mo but for TAKING OUT Colon, who was on fire and still had plenty of bullets in his gun.
CMP, stop imploring me to “try to understand” and find “perspective.” I get it. But your point is flawed. Girardi TOOK OUT Colon to BRING IN Mariano Rivera. These decisions are not mutually exclusive.
p.s. I confused a comment from another comment for something you had said. Ignore the first sentence of my reply. Apologies.
No problem.
As great as Mo is, he hasn’t been automatic this year and Colon was just dominant and only threw 87 pitches. He was totally dominant in the 8th and hadn’t lost any velocity. I really couldn’t see the harm in letting him pitch the 9th until he allowed a baserunner.
I understand. I do. But a one-run lead is precarious, no matter how dominant you’ve been. With that in mind, I can’t understand the overall thought that bringing in Rivera is somehow a mistake.
This is just too frustrating
uhg
Mo actin’ like Brian Fuentes and shit.
The thought of Bartolo having to watch Mo blow the lead on TV in the visitors’ clubhouse after he left the dugout with that big grin on his face is just …heartbreaking.
goodnight folks, put this one on the right side
If Colon had blown the lead most people on here would be bitching that Girardi didn’t bring MO in.
/Hindsightbias’d
Anyway, I agree. You can blame the offense and Mo. You can’t blame Girardi.
With the way he was dealing? Nobody would have said a damn thing. Especially if Girardi would have waited to pull Colon if a runner got on base.
I call bullshit on that comment. Bullshit to the nth degree
Go with the sure thing at the moment, with a dominant line; even Mo can have a bad outing, especially on a cold, wet night coming out of the bullpen. And w/Robertson, Joba, and Soriano unavailable we’re lucky the bullpen scraps haven’t coughed it up yet.
+100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
If things got shaky obviously Mo would be brought in regardless. People are acting like it’s impossible for Mo to enter the game.
How predictable will this be when Ayala gives up the GW hit? Girardi has a chance to use NO bullpen pitchers tonight and he opted to extend the ballgame so that we are forced to use our ineffective relievers.
I’m a little irritated at Girardi too but saying that he “opted to extend the ballgame” is incredibly unfair.
Girardi chose to go to extra innings?? I thought he brought the greatest closer of all time into the game to try to make sure the game did not go to extra innings. Silly me.
Joe also has the greatest relief pitcher in human history, being paid 15M a year to do one job and one job only.
Who gave us the best chance of navigating that 9th inning? Colon or Mo?
Exactly.
The way that Colon was pitching tonight, the answer is COLON.
Actually, Colon did. He had just struck out the side in the 8th with a pitch count of 86, and had allowed only 2 baserunners in his last 6 innings pitched while mowing down hitter after hitter.
Rivera’s stuff tonight would have been a step down from Colon’s. Colon was throwing harder, had nearly perfect control, and insane movement on his 2-seamer. Going to Rivera after a fastball pitcher like Colon is helping the hitters out.
This post is a perfect example of how the blind observer doesn’t notice Girardi’s flaws. Mo doesn’t have to pitch the 9th just because he’s Mo. He’s appeared in a bunch of games recently, and Colon had better stuff tonight.
+28, Matt.
The smart move would have been let Colon come out for the 9th, warm up Mo and bring him in if Colon allowed a baserunner.
This is Mo’s 3rd blown save in 16 save situations. He may be God but he’s been a little vulnerable so far this year.
Normally, you want Mo in that situation every time. But Bartolo had shown that none of the Orioles batters could touch him that night. Also any chance you get to give your 41-year old closer an extra day off, you take it
good job girardi fucking twit
I fucking hate that we have this idiotic moron managing our team for the next 3 years. While bringing in Mo is never really a bad move, Bart was at 89 pitches and was dealing. Girardi has already made a ton of questionable calls, not to mention all of the fucking bunting. All the success he’s had has been a result of having talented yankee teams behind him. I believe that he has already cost us 2-3 wins this year with his moronic moves. His only redeeming quality is keeping the bullpen fresh, yet he let D-rob throw over 110 pitches this week. He brings absolutely nothing to the table. He is a god damn idiot and has no balls to do anything that TEH BINDER doesn’t say. He lives and dies by that fucking piece of shit binder.
Now we have Ayala pitching who will promptly loose us this game.
Google: “lose vs. loose”
Your seriously gonna be a spelling nazi?
Asking someone to spell a word properly shouldn’t be equated with being a racist genocidal fanatic.
Right on. Hard to believe that some of the idiots here are defending Giradi.
How is it hard to defend bringing the greatest closer in history in to protect a one run lead in the ninth? I find it very easy.
You know what? You’re an asshole
Greg: Knock it off. Disagree without being disagreeable.
When they start insulting me then I have to defend myself.
Not like that.
Didn’t you just admit to me, earlier in this very thread, that what Joe did was the right move to make?
I said bringing in Mo is never a bad move. It’s just a culmination of all of the bad moves Girardi has made that has pissed me off
Bringing Mo in is never a bad idea. If you complain about that, you’ll complain about anything.
Read what i said, I said bringing in Mo is never a bad move. My problem is with all of the bad moves Girardi has made so far coming into this game. The bunting, leaving AJ in too long, not leaving Bartolo in long enough. I’m just sick of all of his shit
Alex could have been destroyed
John Sterling just told the funnies joke. “Yankees have their power coming up in the top of the 11th.”….
OMG!!!!! I hit the floor laughing. Great sense of humor has he.
This team is wayyyyy too complacent; if we lose this game, heads should role problem is they won’t and everyone knows it. Wish the big guy was still around.
I agree. Heads should role.
Big Stein might’ve had Jorge’s head mounted in his box by now. But that’s another story.
i dnt know what else there is to say clearly
girardi is nuts and a terrible manager i mean what good has he ever done. He screwed up the alcs last year and many other games i just hate him.
LOL. How did Girardi screw up the ALCS? I remember the Yankees being out hit and out pitched.
Those things were obviously Girardi’s fault. He kept putting on the “get outpitched” or “get outhit” or “hit the ball to Elvis Andrus and watch him make an amazing defensive play” signs.
What a dumbass.
soft underbelly?
Wow, Girardi blew that, not the offense. You take what you can get from your opportunities and don’t get greedy (A-rod is an example tonight of that when trying to leg out that double, got really greedy but whatever). It must suck to be Colon now knowing you just pitched a gem of a game and you get a big fat no-decision.
How did Girardi blow anything? He brought in the best relief pitcher is baseball history. Holy shit, I never thought I’d see some many people complain about bringing in Mariano Rivera.
Joe made a stupid strategic move by bringing Mo in when Colon was aceing it up, but its not his fault Mo blew the game.
Ultimately it falls on him. He made the safe decision so he didn’t get second guessed by the NY media. Now we have to use our ineffective relievers to try to win the game when we could have just let Bartolo finish it himself.
Either way he would get second guessed if the move didn’t work.
There is truth in this. He will be second-guessed less for bringing in Mo. One can only hope that wasn’t actually part of his thinking.
So now, not only does Colon’s great performance not produce a win, it also doesn’t rest the bullpen. Double Fail.
I know! I can’t believe Joba and Robertson have pitched yet again!
The first thing hasn’t happened yet.
Teixera’s been really good.
these guys couldn’t hit a fucking beach ball disgraceful
Yeah they could. Beach balls are huge, dude.
No, you are right, they could definitely smash beach balls into the ground.
Some couldn’t hit water if they fell out of a boat…
Please watch the strong language.
It’s good to see Tex swapping April for May. I used to love Tex. I thought he was one of the good guys. Classy. Well-spoken. Great with a bat and a glove. But holy knob gobbler, he may be the most painful player to watch since Jeter became running gag.
Seems like the scouting report is to go down and away with all the hitters. Seems to be working.
Mo is supposed to get the job done and he didn’t.
Fail.
I love how nobody ever wants to blame Mo for not doing the job we ask him to do. I know he’s the best and you don’t want to kill the guy, because he’s certainly earned the right to have an off night or two with as good as he is, but when Mo blows a save, the blame for not winning falls primarily on Mo.
He’s the one who blew the save. He wasn’t overtired, there was no reason not to go to him. He was supposed to close it out, and he didn’t.
Blame goes to Mo first.
And to the offense second
Hate to say it but I don’t see the Yankees scoring again tonight
So based on tonight’s performance which is more in line with all games prior to last nights, one thing is clear, the Rays just sucked last night enabling the Yankees to win one.
#falsehope
At least Robbie saw three pitches that AB.
Boy am I glad we had the “heart of our lineup” up that inning.
Please stop! Kevin Long is amazing. Give him a raise.
Klong can’t hit for these guys.
Its all on the offense. If they hit a sac fly or 2 we have nothing to discuss here. Any of you who dont see that are not using logic. It comes down to who do you trust. And basically all that I’m hearing is that they trust Bartolo Colon over Mariano Rivera. That’s all that you guys are saying. You dont trust the greatest closer of all time.
I trust Mo enough to come in with a guy on IF Bart puts a guy on.
You can still take Bart out, but you can’t bring him back in after Mo puts 2 guys on.
Simple.
So you trust him with a man on but you dont trust him with no men on. Interesting…
Exactly.
At least now Girardi has a brief excuse he can give to the press if we loose this game. I swear to god that guy is always pushing the wrong buttons. Leaves AJ in long enough to implode, but won’t let Bartolo get his shutout when he’s at 89 pitches and has been masterful.
I wish we had someone smart for our manager, someone who has some balls and will take the higher risk/reward move and own up to it to the media if it doesn’t work out.
Also, another atrocious showing by the offense. Just completely on autopilot right now
lose* this game. fucking spelling errors…
Thank you.
This is not a one-for-one decision of colon vs Rivera. There are many other factors than just that.
1. You bring in mo and suddenly it starts pouring, then you’ve lost both colon and mo.
2. With the already very short pen, bringing in mo gets you to the crap pitchers sooner, as you see now.
3. If you can give mo the day off, all the better. Now he’s pitched 3 of 4 games and may not be available tomorrow.
Colon was rolling with a very low pitch count. At that point, you have to send him back out there to see if you can avoid the above situations. Weighing the pros and cons, the majority of them fall on the side of leaving colon out there, even if it’s just batter to batter.
And if Colon blows it?
Then he blows it, you stuck with a rolling starter and shit happens. That’s why batter to batter is an option. If he gives up a homer, then you still have mo for the 10th and as I said you push all the rest of the crap pitchers off for another inning.
Or none of those things happen, Mo pitches a scoreless 9th inning and no one complains about anything.
Even pitching a scoreless ninth affects tomorrows game. Everyone likes to say it’s a marathon and not a sprint and that you have to be careful overworking relievers. Now he’s possibly adversely affected tomorrows or the next games outcome when he could’ve tried to avoid that situation.
Spot on, forensic.
I’m glad this team is trying oh so hard to win.
I’m glad you think not succeeding and not trying to succeed are somehow the same thing.
FUCK what’s happened with Robbie’s defense??
When he sees Jeter and Posada stinking it up and acting like asses, how can you blame him?
It’s a poor example for such an impressionable young boy.
Yeah it hasn’t been stellar as of late.
this is just painful to watch
thanks for the free out
As much as I hate Girardi he shouldn’t have the blame for what’s happened thus far.
Save situation you bring Rivera, a HOF.
Rivera didn’t get the job done. His fault.
Although I had an eerie feeling that would happen. But that’s just me.
I thought Mo would blow it. And I think most of us did too. While Mo has been great, and is a HOFer Bartolo was lights-out and Joe said he wanted to give the BP a day off.
Mo’s second straight blown save against Baltimore. Just say that to yourself a few times.
He also blew one at the end of last year. Remember that Scott HR? He’s blown 3 straight saves in Baltimore.
Holy fuck Boone…
I agree…except for tonight. Unless Colon was having diarrhea in the dugout, there’s no reason why he shouldn’t have pitched the 9th. The dude was half way up the steps when the 8th ended.
I personally would kept Colon in, but bringing Mo in isn’t that unfathomable.
It’s not like he brought in Chad Gaudin.
He brought in one of the best closers and that closer didn’t get the job done.
I disagree with the move, but it wasn’t worthy of calling Girardi a moron or something like that.
Is Noesi even on the roster?
He’s on double secret probation.
I mean I cant believe any of you. YOu are all saying that Bartolo Colon is better than Mo Rivera. Essentially. If you cant say that the blame goes to offense, I dont know what game you’ve been watching.
It was Bartolo’s game man. I understand the move, but come on. 87 pitches? Really?
Why did he use Mo yesterday?
Why isn’t Noesi up?
I’ll try it again.
You can take Bart out if he puts a guy on. You *cannot* put him back in there after Mo puts a guy on.
So what? It’s Mariano Rivera.
See my earlier comment about “Cy &$*%& Young” getting the ball.
You don’t pull a guy with < 100 pitches when he is dealing. Because if the next guy is *not* dealing, you're SOL and cannot put the SP back in.
Maybe, maybe not, but it’s never a bad decision to put in Mo (given he hasn’t pitched 12 days in a row)
No, what we’re saying is that Francoeur is better than Pujols. I don’t know what this Colon / Mo shit is?
Pujols sux. lol whatevs
Tonight, with the entirety of the situation, yes, colon was/is better than mo.
there just doesn’t seem to be anyway they win this game the garbage left to pitch is disgusting (except Noesi to be fair the kid hasn’t thrown a fucking pitch so who the hell knows what to expect)
Well at least Vlad will have a chance to go yard on Ayala… then queue the Girardi cliches.
Does it count as a hit if Guererro gets a hit on a ball the bounces first like in cricket?
ARod what the fuck?
Omg Arod, you have to make that play. Jesus christ.
Holy shit. Shit is going crazy. Mo blows a save and Arod makes two mental errors in a game.
The team is just embarrassing.
Everyone on it.
+1
Right about now Colon and Mo (tonight notwithstanding) are the guys I see that deserve an ASG trip. That’s it.
How could you leave the best CF in baseball out?
I don’t think DCBX has paid much attention this year.
Hehe caught me. I have always found pitching more entertaining than hitting. Yes, Grandy should go. Shit, I voted for the guy.
CC, Granderson, A-Rod probably, Martin?
Granderson? Cano? CC?
Cano and A-Rod? Right now? Cano looks like 2008 Cano in the field and at the plate.
A-Rod has had 1 good game and 1 okay game in like a month.
The defense is more offensive than the offense.
I hate to say this but you just feel like this game is over, right now. Doesn’t go to 12.
you think the game is over with the bases loaded 1 out in the bottom of the 11th with our scrubs pitching?
gee i think youre alone in that feeling
Boone Logan with the bases loaded and needs to get 2 outs. Forgive me if I’m not exactly confident in our chances.
This one falls on Mo, the offense and Girardi. Although it’s hard for me to stay mad at Mo…
I just don’t know why ownership and management continues to put up with this. We haven’t been playing well lately and really could have used this W. It was in the bag. All Girardi had to do was let Colon go out there, if he allows a baserunner bring in Mo. Instead, he managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. I don’t know how we can overcome that.
Isn’t Mo pretty bad with runner on base?
So if someone got on you think Mo would have come in and gotten out of it, but couldn’t hold them coming in with no one on? That makes sense.
You’re ridiculous. He put in Mariano FUCKING Rivera, not someone like Luis Ayala. Stop complaining just to complain.
To you and others using “one runner, then pull him” argument:
1) What if the “one runner” hit a homerun? Your reaction then?
2) Why does one runner warrant his being removed and replaced by Rivera, but starting the inning with Rivera is a federal fucking crime?
Because you play the hot hand. Taking out a dealing SP with less than 90 pitches is an epic fail. What if Mo has an off night or it starts raining again? Then you go directly into the crappy bullpen quicker.
The issue here is not taking out Colon and bringing in Mo in an abstract situation. Of course you bring in Mo 100 out of 100 times. But not tonight with the numerous variables at hand. How hard is that to comprehend?
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-ne Logan time.
game over
All you Girardi defenders..its about COLON, not Rivera. Finish this sentence without using the name Rivera
Bartolo Colon should be taken out of the game because he ____________
Joe Girardi is a robot incapable of abstract thought.
doesn’t have the track record that Mariano Rivera has.
Lolwut. You seriously can’t be comparing the two?
How many Cy Young awards does Mo have? Not trying to compare the two, but this is not a good reason.
How many rings does Colon have?
The rings argument holds up suprisingly less-well when used with Jeter and Posada ya know, therefore I’m calling shenanigans on it.
Fine. Who’s going to the Hall of Fame? Who’s has a World Series MVP? Who is considered to be the greatest pitcher in their role?
The Cy Young (like every other award in baseball history) is a horrible way to evaluate anything.
Because voters are dumb. Colon having a Cy Young and Mo not having one doesn’t mean Colon is a better pitcher in that situation.
Bartolo Colon should be taken out of the game because he Mariano Rivera.
I totally understand what youre saying but lemme take a crack at it
Bartolo Colon should be taken out of the game because he is not the greatest closer in the history of baseball
But you CAN’T not mention Rivera because THAT’S why Colon was removed. I understand that you believe he should have finished, but to ignore that he was replaced by Mariano Rivera is ignoring the whole story.
… is Bartolo Colon and not Mariano Rivera.
Was he dealing? Absolutely. Could all that dealing stop at the drop of a hat with a bad pitch which becomes a homerun? Absolutely.
Should I always trust a fresh Mariano Rivera over a guy who, while dealing at the moment, hasn’t shown over a large sample size that he can be a good pitcher in live 5+ years? Yes, I should.
I know you want to remove Mariano Rivera from this equation, but you can’t. If Mo had been on the DL and Rafael Soriano was healthy, and had been dealing all April/May long (like. 1.00 ERA dealing), Colon would have finished the game. Joe wouldn’t have lifted Colon for healthy and filthy Soriano, or Joba, or Robertson, or Joe Nathan, or Billy Wagner, or Trevor Hoffman, or Goose Gossage, or Dennis Eckersley.
The only reason he lifted Colon is because he had the one option available that’s ALWAYS an upgrade. Every manager picks that upgrade in that one-run 9th inning situation.
Fire Girardi mid-inning, replace him with any manager you like. That new manager also lifts Colon and puts in God Himself.
1. It’s not really a fresh mo. He pitched yesterday and has now pitched 3 out of 4.
2. It’s not just bringing in mo, it’s bringing the entire bullpen into play earlier than you have to, which gets to the crap guys sooner.
He pitched yesterday and has now pitched 3 out of 4.
One of those 3 was one single batter, yesterday. 6 total pitches.
Before that 3-out-of-4, he had four days of rest.
2. It’s not just bringing in mo, it’s bringing the entire bullpen into play earlier than you have to, which gets to the crap guys sooner.
Which only becomes an issue if Mo blows it, which you’re not expecting him to do. Meanwhile, if Colon gives up the lead and it’s a 1-1 tie, you’re still going to Mo in the 9th there (to hold the line and avoid the outright loss) and thus, the rest-of-game bullpen management stays the same. Any surrender of the one-run lead results in the same Ayala/Logan/Noesi appearances. Doesn’t matter whether that’s Colon or Mo who gives up the lead.
It’s was three days rest, not 4. And despite only facing one batter yesterday he warmed up twice which also counts for something.
And I guarantee you if he didn’t go batter to batter with colon and it eventually goes to 1-1, he’s not bringing in mo in the middle of that inning. At that point he would ride colon through the inning and use mo in the 10th.
You keep avoiding the fact that Mo hasn’t been automatic this year as seen in his 3rd blown save in 16 chances. He hasn’t been automatic this year , at least early on.
STRIKE!!!!!!!
Girardi brings in Logan so Luke Scott won’t question Ayala’s birth certificate. Nice Girardi, real nice.
Oh so THAT’S why the people here hate Luke Scott. He has his own opinion that doesn’t match what the liberal media tells us to think. Cool.
Also…because he has a mullet.
your tin foil hats showing
Easy Chili Farts. It is more of a mockery of Luke Scott than offending your political agenda. I honestly couldn’t care less. AND for the record, everyone else dislikes Luke Scott because he is a .
I don’t hate Luke Scott because he’s a conservative or because he thinks Barack Obama is a bad president. Those are his opinions and he’s more than entitled to them, and plenty of people that I like and respect hold those views.
I hate Luke Scott because he’s an idiot* and because he thinks throwing plantain chips at Felix Pie isn’t racist. It is.
(*Yes, thinking that Barack Obama wasn’t born here makes you an idiot. You can disagree with this president. You can’t continue to think that he was secretly born in another country and there’s a massive coverup to hide that fact. If you still think Obama wasn’t born in Hawaii in 1961, you’re a stupid fucking idiot and you need to stop being dumb.)
What? I’m conservative/libertarian, and even I think only idiots and conspiracy wackos (and maybe racists) still question the birth certificate.
LOOGY’d
Holy shit, Boone might actually keep us in this game…
BOONE
Yes!
This impending loss is on Girardi…again. Overmanaging and pulling Colon for Mo. The guys throwing a gem and had on thrown only 87 pitches through 8 innings. Girardi is a knuckle head!!
Although I’d have kept Colon in, putting your closer in in a 1 run game isn’t overmanaging.
I know people here don’t like to blame Mo, but he didn’t get the job done. He deserves blame.
I’m not saying he sucks or anything. Just that the Yankees were in line to win the game and Rivera blew the save.
You can’t blame Girardi for that. What if Colon loses the game right there or implodes?
Boone says fuck the haters
Good grief, this game won’t ever end.
I’m sooooo happy!!!!!
Pop out, strike out, ground out. line out, or fly out. Just an out, please.
I wouldn’t call Boone Logan the fireman after that. Maybe the fire hydrant
wow logan just turned into the lefty robertson
You mean Logan let all inherited runners score (except last night)?
that is all.
It’s amazing the Yankees are still in this game. Is it too much to ask for a few runs here?
Dickerson Gardner Nunez….. I feel like Scott Bakula on Quantum Leap.
“ohboy”
Any flash of offense would be great here.
Dickerson!
Wow! Orioles going all Yankees offense like. Ouch.
Girardi is a knuckle head…plain & simple.
Here comes the bunt to preemptively kill the rally.
I endorse that bunt.
I endorse willfully decreasing your chances of scoring.
Hmm forgot to include a /sarcasm tag.
Late but:
They weren’t booing, they were saying BOOOOONE.
uggh bunts…
why? Nunez is next!!!!!
why? Nunez is next!!!!!
TEH BINDER SAYS BUNT SO BUNT IT IS!
cyborg Girardi, must follow TEH BINDER
You’d think a cyborg would eventually learn from his mistakes
Girardi is an excellent manager, but this bunt crap rarely works.
STOP BUNTING.
I disagree, Girardi is an average at best manager who has managed great Yankee teams
Captain Clutch please
woops, mean some muscle from Russell please
I can feel Russell’s clutchiness from here. I predict an RBI.
Pass the baton to Babe Nunez
Can Jeter do anything clutch?
Of course he cant
I <3 infield hits from catchers.
Please God, Jeter. Please.
Now would be time for a patented Jeter single.
Oh captain, my captain.
If Jeter gets a hit here he will be a real Yankee.
Jeter = fake Yankee
Noesi sighting?
take one for the team Cap’n.
Jeterian
Oh look, Jeter doesn’t come through again.
No!!!!!
ALL ABOUT THE OFFENSE.
he so terrible just so terrible
Captain Predictable
Scoreboard looks like computer code.
This offense is hilarious or am I not allowed to say that?
The never-ending game.
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/i.....AA300_.jpg
Captain Unclutch
Weak groundout from jeter. That wasn’t predictable at all…
wow come on jete…fail
Captain Clutch coming up big again with another dribbler grounder.
Also the bunt has screwed us over and over, but gosh darn it TEH BINDER says bunt, so we bunt!
No pressure at all on Noesi. UGH.
Noesi!!!
oh look ITS NOESI!!!
Tough spot for Girardi to finally uses him. If he fails, we wont be seeing Noesi again for a long time…
I’m always the first to defend Jeter to all my non-Yankee fan friends, but I have to admit – with ABs like that, it’s getting harder to do…
lol they make THIS Noesi’s debut?
Ran out of other options.
I thought they’d have Sanit throw 150 pitches before using Noesi
Because he jumped the gun going to mo earlier than he should’ve.
What?
No.
oh look ITS NOESI!!!
also hopefully the orioles hit rookies like the yankees do.
Love Noesi here. He should have started the 10th.
lol JJ wished that hit him
No no no no no.
The first rule of Hector Noesi is you do not pitch Hector Noesi.
The second rule of Hector Noesi is YOU DO NOT PITCH HECTOR NOESI.
Girardi’s binder should cover this.
its noesi or swisher
Um what were you saying
Not a fan of Fight Club? Not suprised I guess.
*Obviously meant to poke fun at the marked non-use of Noesi thus far in games since he’s been up. Has zero to do with what I think of his pitching ability, I do like Noesi.
maybe TEH BINDER even agrees that Noesi is a better option than Sanit. It’s the only possible reason,
Girardi is not capable of making decisions outside of TEH BINDER’s will.
Noesi into the SSS HOF
3.75 more years of this from Jeter. I can’t!
The 4th year player option is perhaps the dumbest thing Cashman ever did.
That contract was Levine’s doing, not Cashman. I am not adverse to criticizing Cash, but that contract wasn’t his fault.
Noesi working well so far. Throwing strikes, good life on the fastball. Body language is good well, he worked quickly and efficiently.
My frustration over the Colon vs. Rivera argument is subsiding and being replaced with fervent disdain for the offensive showing. And on THAT, I think we can all agree.
My feeling is this
if the yankees werent in a giant skid girardi lets colon finish the game
because they are playing like shit hes gotta play conservative and go to mo
Kay says No-Way-”C”
I always said No-”S”-”C”
On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the most frustrated, I’m at about a 9.6 with the way this game is going right now.
game how about season
Nah, I’m still coasting a bit from Logan’s houdini act.
Wow Joe maybe Noesi isn’t an instafail option.
Glad Noesi is finally in a game, wish it was under different circumstances, but maybe the fact that he has struck out the first 2 batters he has faced will mean that Girardi uses him more….that is if TEH BINDER allows it of course
damn noesi bringing the heat
nice debut
An actual high end pitching prospect!!!
and by high end you mean because he pitched in AAA?
Nah, he has 2-3 starter potential, and he was just out of the top 100. Not elite, but not a back rotation guy like the others we’ve been getting.
So we can be in third place by the end of the night?
Great.
Stop caring about what place in the division we’re in. It’s May.
As long as we’re not 10+ games under .500 like Minnesota, any place in the division is just fine.
We are free falling.
Everyone else in the division has had a stretch like this. Which is why all 5 teams are bunched within a few games of .500 either way.
Relax.
We expect the Yanks to be more impressive than everyone else in the division. If you don’t that’s fine, but don’t get down on people that don’t like seeing the Yanks fall in line with amassing losses.
I expect the Yankees to make the playoffs and compete for the title. Those are reasonable expectations.
Expecting the Yankees to never trail in the division and be wire-to-wire leaders, that’s an unrealistic expectation. Other teams also have talent, and no team in baseball (not even a 200M juggernaut) is slump-proof.
Expect the Yankees to be good and make the playoffs. Stop expecting the Yankees to have a 6-game lead all year long.
+1 for Mario Brothers music.
fuck
Ground ball to Nunez who will throw it back to NYS
Funny: I have already seen suggestions to PH Colon and pitch Swisher in this thread. Shame is, we can’t even do that.
this is the game
Noesi getting squeezed much?
Thanks… first 3 looked just fine per Gameday..
from gameday pitch 1 and 3 were in the strike zone
really now you’re just squeezing the kid what ever
Jfiuheyhccv that was a strike!!!
make up call a little too late ump
This ump is high.
Even if Noesi gets out of this, it’s just prolonging the inevitable given how shitty our offense has been…
oh sweet chocolate Jesus. c’mon Hector…
http://www.brooksbaseball.net/.....type=3.gif
Definitely getting squeezed
Noesi is a WIZARD
Time for the 5 pitch inning.
NOESIIIIIIIII
aaaaaand exhale.
god what an inning lol
There we go!
C’mon, some people have to work in the morning.
If ever there was a live example of offensive ineptness, it would be THIS game. Thank you to the Orioles and the Yankees for taking time from scoring runs to put on this clinic.
That’ll do, rook. That’ll do.
So I might have a heart attack if this last any longer. I’m really trying to write this off as a loss and hope I get surprised if something magical happens, but the way the Yankees are playing I can’t help but cringe and get back into it.
good job hector!!
I’m so sick of those Jeter’s got an edge commercials
They are a lot harder to sit through when he is sucking.
alright 3 best hitters lets get to this scrub
Time for an awful rally-killing homer.
I’ll only be happy with a homer if somehow a bunt is worked into the mix.
Its always weird when you’re watching on DVR, start atleast 90 minutes late and still catch up to live action.
Joba….ugh
This team is so unclutch, they don’t know how to win. Terrible job again.
/What Orioles fans are saying.
Time for Tex to bunt!
Love the grandyman
please no bunting
steal the base
we are going to have to get 2 this inning…
Noesi has some pretty nasty stuff even if he does seem to lack some command. I guess they’ll make him a reliever permanently now.
damn…that was a hanger
Why isn’t Tex bunting?!?! The book says he has to!!11
At least he’s consistent with the strike zone.
Teix getting lucky with the calls.
Bunt Teix to 2B!
Shut up you’re giving them ideas.
Mark Teixeira is a good hitter with men on base.
/bringingupoldshit’d
seems like that debate was a long, long time ago
Yeah but only if you use your fancy pants dork numbers.
Time for the game winning hit by the only guy who bothered to show up to hit today.
come on wild pitch
Interesting John Sterling just told me with a full count and a man on first there is nothing the defense can do to stop the runner
Steal home!!!!!!!!
Suicide bunt!!!!!!!!
Small bawl!!!!!!!!
A-Rod, relax. We can’t afford to have Jorge playing 3rd base.
Ugh I’d rather have Pena manage the rest of the game…
its happening again….
Low.
it was not
Come on Dickerson.
Dickerson True Yankee moment
Chris Dickerson is about to become a True Yankee™.
I just cant believe they wont find a way to score
All A-Rod had to do was put the ball in play. If we don’t score here for God’s sake.
That was a ball, big time, and ARod was barking at the ump with good reason.
it was a strike
http://www.brooksbaseball.net/.....type=3.gif
It was borderline, you can look it up everywhere. A-Rod can’t take a pitch that close with 2 strikes when all they needed was for him to put the ball in play
Take a look at Brooks. It was certainly a strike and you hve to protect either way in that situation.
Lets go Gardner!
Fucking shit.
Good grief.
Gardner will walk in the run
Oh well I guess Chris Dickerson is not replacing Swisher in the depth chart. I had high hopes.
god please walk him
Calling it now. RBI Walk.
fail.
Bah.
This offense is pathetic.
understatement of the century putrid just fucking putrid
What a terrible slump.
And that’s the ballgame. Fucking pathetic.
classic yankees
Of course
Let’s just blame Girardi for the offense not coming through, since we blame Girardi for everything.
Might as well. It’s cathartic.
Not for everything, just for mindlessly taking out Colon when he was on fire.
No, he’s to blame for everything that hasn’t gone the Yankees way. FACT.
fucking pathetic awfulness
I’d rather have a middle school offense up when there’s RISP.
we might as well wave the white flag bc this offense is pathetic!
I can’t beleive I’ve been watching this shit for 4 hours.
Yeah I missed the Bulls game for this.
it happened again
If they just played smallball properly, then they would have won this game in regulation, Rivera or not.
Its all about the offense.
I’m, also convinced that since it was a one run lead, Girardi put in Rivera. If it were bigger than I think he would have kept Colon in.
If the Yankees lose this game I think the culprits are, in order:
1. Rivera
2. Offense
3. Losing pitcher
lol This game could have been over like an hr and a half ago.
**notice how I didn’t include Girardi
I will stay to my belief that Colon should’ve gone out for the 9th
1. Offense
2. Offense
3. Offense
4. Rivera
5. Losing Pitcher
If Rivera gets the job done, the offense is irrelevant.
1. cashman
Girardi must be blamed. TEH BINDER says so…
1. Girardi
2. Rivera
3. Offense
Javy Vazquez.
forgot to add him to my list
Hideki Irabu.
No one should ever be blamed.
That, basically.
It’s a baseball game, people, not a murder trial.
well, that’s it. I think I’m going to pour myself a microwaved glass of Rumplemintz and watch one of my wife’s tivo’d Glee episodes instead of watching this game any further
Warm Rumplemintz? That sounds just nasty.
Disgraceful. How many chances do you need to win this ballgame? This offense has cost them almost every single night over the last month.
And for all the idiots blaming A-Rod, get a clue. He got called out on a pitch nowhere close to the strike zone. What do you want him to do? Dribble it to 3rd base and not get the run home? Same situation.
The at bat which turned that inning was Dickerson’s strike out, but of course nobody on this blog knows how to put blame where it should be because they can’t separate the results from the approach.
totally agree with you, cept for the part about the pitch not being a strike. It totally was
No, it actually wasn’t. A-Rod stands in front of home plate. It’s where it crosses home plate, not where it crosses his knee.
Look at where Gameday had that pitch.
Look at where Pitch FX had that pitch. STRIKE
Those blurred lines are pitches which are 2-3 inches off the plate, which are considered “borderline” but are not strikes. It’s only a strike when part of the ball is inside of the solid lines.
It was a very questionable call, and hence it’s hard to fault A-Rod on that one.
Look at where Gameday had that pitch. It was down and in, just off the plate both down and inside. All he could have done with that pitch was pull it on one or two hops to 3rd base. If he does that, the run does not score anyway.
Nothing A-Rod could have done. Just because the result was bad, it doesn’t mean the player failed. If he lined it right at the shortstop, that’s not necessarily a bad at bat.
I’m not talking about Gameday. Their locations are always unreliable at best. I’m talking about the actual Pitch FX data.
http://www.brooksbaseball.net/.....type=3.gif
The last pitch is clearly in the zone.
The pitch was in the strike zone. Middle of the plate. Caught the front knee. That’s in the strike zone.
It wasn’t a strike in terms of height or lateral location. Look at where pitch tracking placed that pitch. It was borderline inside, borderline down.
How the hell do you score ZERO earned runs off the O’s in 13 innings, including 6 relief pitchers. What a pathetic showing.
kevin long is a genius
I hope you’re not implying Kevin Long is the reason the Yanks are slumping. His headline project, Curtis Granderson, has been one of the constant performers over this tough stretch the past couple of weeks.
RISP fail FTL
Unbelievable, what a fucking joke. All you have to do is get a runner in from third. Fucking pathetic.
Fuck this shit, fuck this fucking slumping piece of shit team. Will someone please let me know when the Yankees start playing like their actual talent indicates?
Come on, Hector Houdini, give us another frame. You can do it.
Now the game is over..
g’night. pitiful. pathetic. game over.
The Yankees don’t deserve to win this game…
but neither do the Orioles. So lolwhatevs
Which leads us all to the main point: Nobody ever “deserves” to win a game. You either win or you don’t, nothing more.
My head hurts…
You win with heart, determination, blood, guts, pine tar, dip, eye black, beards, grit, hustle, swagger, sunflower seeds, bunts, sac flies, and perseverance. That’s the formula for success.
Which makes Minnesota’s struggles all the more baffling.
Nobody does eyeblack better than the Twins. Nobody.
Not enough sunflower seeds. Easy mistake, but the omission screws everything up.
I disagree. The team that blows another team out they typically “deserves” to win. This is more of a “race to the bottom” than anything.
This team is really playing like shit. Offense needs a week off and they’ve managed to piss several quite a few good pitching performances down their legs. Sigh…
I am convinced that if the offense had scored more runs, then Girardi would have kept Colon in. But since it was a one run lead, they brought in the safer bet in Rivera.
So in essence the bad offense has led to all of this.
When you only score one run and lose it’s always the offense’s fault.
+1
RIVERA HAS TO GET THE JOB DONE!!!!
Wow. The offense sucks, but if Rivera doesn’t give up a run, we win the game 2 hours ago.
All i can say is this. Bartolo will take out his frustration on a tub of ice cream and it won’t be pretty…
By the time the rest of the team gets back to the clubhouse, the only thing left on the buffet table will be a bunch of chicken bones and Colon will be passed out in the corner holding his stomach with grease all over his face.
As shittily as this offense has performed I think we need a fat pitcher’s appreciation thread tomorrow.
Win or lose, I’m loving this Noesi performance. Kid looks nice, and composed. Quality stuff.
Besides his lack of control at times, he’s looked better than Nova.
IIRC, most of the scouting reports/comments said Noesi had a higher ceiling than Nova. Better swing-and-miss stuff.
Yup, I thought that Nova had performed better than expected so far. From what I’ve seen and read Noesi actually has impeccable control for his age. His nerves must be affecting him tonight.
Which is understandable.
just a little more control
Oh, of course. He’s not a finished product.
Lots of great green shoots there, though.
lol Noesi owns
Who pitches the 14th?
Posada.
You know what. If we had Captain Jack Sparrow managing our team, none of this shit would have happened…
Help us Obi Noesi, you’re our only hope.
Noesi’s showing some balls tonight.
Too many balls. He needs to mix in a few more strikes.
@YankeesWFAN can colon just put on number 62 and come out to pitch the 14th? No one will know the difference
AHAHAH this made my night
This game will not end…ever!
Next time they have guys like Granderson, Gardner and Nunez at third, they should REALLY try to steal home.
At least it’ll be entertaining!
I’m loving the effort by Noesi.
Accardo is so bad, they better score already.
Again the bad offense has led to all of this. It affected Girardi’s decision and it has been bad.
NO BUNT! Just steal the god damn base.
of course more bunting
bunting Martin?????
You just have to be in mesmerized by the pathetic pulse known as the Yankee’s offense. Apparently, Joe’s book has no rules on what to do with RISP… Just says “Page left blank intentionally”…
He took the bunt off
This game will never die.
thank you Nunie
Is Nunez allowed to take 2B without us trading in an out?
in 13 inning between those 2 teams only mo has given up a run
Nunie with teh wheelz.
Just one single from getting the lead. You gotta believe its gonna happen.
They better score and end this shit soon, it’s taking up precious time to watch 24…
Come on Jeter, show why your oh so clutch.
how is jeter going to GIDP with a guy on 2nd?
lets find out
Im ready for more RISPFAIL!
Funny thing is, I think the Yankees and Sox may have had 9 inning games last longer time wise than this.
Oh, much longer at times.
Can we have a new thread to preserve our sanity? and also for good luck
I agree…In teh interest of teh sanity
Steal home. Steal home. Steal home.
Please Grandy man! PLEASE!
Ugh DJ … still only need a single and the “good” hitters are coming up.
bring nunez home Grandy!
I need a button on my remote that lets me automatically avoid watching Jeter’s futility
Thank god Grandy is up next. If anyone is going to bring the run in, it’s the Grandyman
so we are not winning
Showing he has a sense of humor, Buck Showalter pulls his team off the field except the pitcher, catcher, Jones, and Markakis… Yankees still fail to score.
1-13 w/RISP. Shocking.
jesus christ this offense is absolutely dreadful!!
We want a single, just a little single. S-I-N-G-L-E Single, Single, Single.
oh dear lord.

1-14 w/RISP will do that to ya.
I wonder what the record is for biggest RISP fail?
This reminds me of this game http://www.baseball-reference......9100.shtml
Double facepalm.
Of course. I have a feeling the baseball gods just won’t let us have this one
This ump is the anti- Joe West.
I left this game in the 1st inning and came back to it in the 12th. Wow …
Anyways, here’s hoping Noesi is good for another frame. IS ANYONE available after Noesi?
As I have been saying. The Offense is the culprit in this game. It led to Griardi’s decision.
This offense couldn’t be any worse. It really couldn’t. Accardo was like the slutty chick at the bar telling you about her new bedspread and yoga class, and the Yankees just kept asking her what kind of work she’s in.
Sounds like your speaking from experience, Mike.
Where’s the guy who does the t-shirts?
no game whatsoever
13 hits, 14 innings. 0 ER.
Offense has to do better than that.
This is a pathetic performance by the offense. The Orioles had a bullpen ERA over 5.00 going into this game for a reason. They have had an insane number of chances and still can’t get it done.
If Noesi is the only guy left in the pen, how much longer can he legitimately go? They have had 2 great chances to score on outs and continue to choke. What a shame too, because this guy has really earned a win with how he’s pitched.
Noesi’s a starter by trade, he’s still good to go.
Yeah that’s true, but I’m not sure if it translates necessarily out of the pen.
Maybe because of the type of game this is, he’s taking a starter’s mentality out there. He’s also made a lot of high intensity pitches though, and he’s already thrown 55 pitches. He may only be good for 2 or 3 more innings, so they have to get this done soon.
Noesi and Sanit could probably get them through 20+
DICKERSON wooooooooo
OMG
Hahahahhahaha.
Calm down, O’s fans. Not yet.
Terrible, terrible camera work by the Baltimore feed.
The yankee players were on their way off the field. Literally. End the game, end the misery.
Ohh so sowwy Felix. Better luck next time.
#NoesiforPresident
#wheresthebirthcertificate
I wonder if Luke Scott threw some plantain chips on Felix Pie in the dugout to spur him to hit his flyballs 10 feet deeper.
I’ve already came to terms with the loss (spent bullpen, offense that can’t hit its way out of a nutsack, and the hometeam always has a bit of an edge in extras) but Noesi
what’s the record for the longest baseball game? In terms of innings
I remember the Mets Cardinals game last year that went 20 innings.
But I dont think it was the longest.
26 innings
This is a fun game of baseball.
oooooooooo Adam Jones is fucking mad
Noesi .Fuckyea
FISTPUMP MUTHAFUCKA
Prediction:
The west coast games will be over before this one is.
Noesi is mowing ‘em down. The Yankees have to get something going now.
Homertime.
another leadoff runner on…..
score a fucking run
oh boy, lets see how they fail to score now
Now we know there will be no bunt attempt.
Michael Kay is going crazy. That ball was much more ‘looped’ than ‘drilled’
So how will the yankees screw up the leadoff runner this inning?
A.) GIDP
B.) Strikeouts
C.) Infield Pop-outs
They won’t. Their slump is now over.
D.) Reverse balk
There we go, boys.
Make it count this time.
Smoking line drive by Arod
/Kay’d
Bunt time!!
GITP?
Upping the ante. Well played, Mauer.
Cano should murder Gonazalez
winner
how long until we run out of baseballs?
Would like to see Noesi get a crack at the rotation when Freddy Garcia show comes to its messy end.
Yanks have something good going so far … ugh. I’m starting to hope …
This is the O’s last reliever.
Somebody’s gotta do something. Cano, Dickerson, Gardner. Just one hit!
Runz!!!
THANK YOU!
THANK YOU ROBINSON !!!!
cant believe my eyes!!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Praise be to Cano!
THANK YOU ROBBIE! Finally swinging at the first pitch pays off for him
RISPWIN!!! FINALLY!!!
FINALLY! THAT’S ALL WE NEED!
What a novel concept. Runs.
Yahtzee!
TEX-AROD-CANO IS A PERFECTLY FINE 3-4-5. THERE IS NO NEED TO CHANGE IT.
#shitstarting
they finally scored again … no need to start shit now
Holy Shit, that’s what an extra base hit looks like.
Loved the shot of angry Buck in the dugout. I want it on a t-shirt or as a tattoo.
Oh thank god.
OMG.
Thank you Robinson.
shit shit shit please be ok.
holy shit noooooo, i hope that kid is ok.
wow
WOW!!!
Oh, shit.
Please be okay, Chris. That looked horrible.
Oh Jesus. Hopefully that young man is ok.
Holy shit, that looked terrifying.
Yahtzee!
Someone needs to pay for this. Mike Gonzalez is a piece of fucking shit, had to be tossed.
I want retaliation in tomorrows game
The O’s are going to be retaliated by having to use Guthrie, tomorrow’s starter today.
fucking bullshit… someone from the orioles needs to get hurt now.
Not tonight, tomorrow well we’ll see.
It’s good that his helmet cracked. Means it took the force, not his head. That was scary.
I seriously can’t beleive they threw Gonzalez out. What kind of dumbass ump would think that was on purpose??
it might be. probably not, but I would not be shocked
He pitched up and in on purpose. If you can’t control it, don’t throw it. I agree with Tony La Russa in this respect. Hitting players in the head should be ZERO tolerance.
the Orioles always throw at the Yankees, wouldn’t be surprised if it was intentional. Buck is a piece of shit and it flows down through the org.
Not on purpose? That was definitely with intent. That was his head all because of a tantrum.
I doubt Gonzalez threw at Dickerson. I really really doubt it.
Yes he did.
he was pissed.
he’s an ass.
I’ve seen the replay 10 times and I can’t figure out how he has a welt on the left side of his face. Scary as hell.
I think the ball hitting the bill jarred the helmet downwards onto Dickerson’s browline.
I imagine you’re right but that seems like an impossible angle unless it split.
Yeah, I think he fell on the helmet, so to speak.
glad that piece of shit was ejected
There is -no- fucking way this guy can stay in the game. NO fucking way.
Just because he’d screw his team over doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t do it. Not everyone is a rational thinker. Retaliation is necessary, by jumping Mike in the parking lot.
This.
He was pissed.
put Robertson in right
Whoa, shit is going down.
They gotta take him out, okay good!
There is no way he meant to throw at him. I bet the ump said that he’d throw out anyone who threw at a player before the game after the O’s threw at Martin last series.
CC should pinch run!!!!
so this means Guthrie’s not available tomorrow
Huge hit by Cano there, and it would be nice if they could tack on the 3rd run as well.
Horrible to see that happen to Dickerson. He’s been such a breath of fresh air in there in place of Swisher these last few nights, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see him go on the 7 day DL since he’s only a backup and has to be replaced on the roster with the short bench.
Don’t think it was intentional, Gonzalez is just wild out there. He was going after him with a first pitch slider, I don’t think he is trying to hit him there as the last pitcher for Baltimore.
Interesting to see how this might affect tomorrow’s game now that Guthrie is pitching. They may have to push his start back, which could benefit the Yankees with CC going.
Lmao @ AJ Burnett’s face.
AJ burnett on the base paths could be interesting.
Jeter in the outfield, AJ pinch running? Backstreet boys playing in the background? very interesting…
Nuñez is the one going to the OF.
Jeter @ SS. Nunez in the OF
burnett…yes…
Hopefully its good AJ on the bases and no bad AJ.
Use Freddy as the PR morons….
I’m not sure about pinch running AJ when you can just use Nova. There’s a little bit of an investment issue here.
I would go Robertson personally.
My guess is that Girardi has not ruled out the possibility of Robertson pitching if things start to get out of hand. He was stretching earlier when the Yankees had 2nd and 3rd with no one out, indicating Girardi might have brought Robertson in to serve as closer.
Had the same thought.
Maybe he’s concerned that the younger player, Nova, might actually try to do something on a hit ball, where he was more confident AJ would run base to base.
Has Nova ever run the bases before, though? They use DH across the minors… At least AJ has experience from his time in Florida.
why would you risk AJ here. Use Garcia
I come home really late to see Dickerson get beaned in the head and AJ Burnett pinch running…I see this game has been a game of insanity.
Ok i had given up on watching this game but I have to watch AJ if he gets to run!
A.J. Burnett pinch running? El O fucking El
Hey guys, this worked perfectly. Not only did they take a 3 run lead, they also knocked tomorrow’s starter out already!
AJ FTW, masterful performance
I’m guessing we won’t have the game recap by midnight?
Please just make this nice and easy now.
This team just can’t make anything easy at this point.
please please please concuss wieters
Dear Yankees, please end this game. Thanks.
Why in the world is Robertson warming up. Girardi just wants to go into new territory with a 15th inning dry hump?
DRob throwing again. I thought Joe Torre retired.
/Proctor’d
Shit, man, A.J. Burnett was a pinch runner a second ago. Tomorrow’s scheduled starter for Baltimore just pitched.
Clearly, both teams are out of players and are forced to do things they don’t want to do.
Here we go.. it cant be easy
Smart move getting Nunez some OF reps in spring.
Robertson? oh god. his arm might fall off.
Robertson really?
119 pitches in the last week? I thought Girardi wasn’t in the business of burning out pitchers.
Come on Hector, just end this shit
This ump is inconsistent.
its happening again…………
Thank you Snyder!
Most ridiculous game ever
thank you for the free out. Looks like Noesi needs all the help he can get
Well … that was certainly fortuitous.
LEAVE ROBERTSON ALONE!
http://i54.tinypic.com/screwg.jpg
LOL!!! EPIC!
ha ha ha ha ha
OH THANK GOD
Wierdest game by the Yankees I’ve ever seen. (Not even close to Mets-Cardinals last year).
i hope this is the game we all look back on that turned the season around
ITS OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is one of the strangest games I’ve ever seen.
YESSS
IT’S FINALLY OVER
Yay Noesi!
“Nice win for the Yankees.” I wouldn’t go that far.
Nice win. It’s sweeter when you have to work that hard for it.
Atta boy Noesi. Just imagine if you had been allowed to pitch sometime before this. Maybe we wouldn’t have had to see so much Carlyle/ayala/other crappy pitchers.
Of course the last out was to the infielder in the outfield. But who fucking cares. THE YANKEES WIN, THEEEEE YAAANEES WINNNNN!!!!!!
great job by noesi
Thank you Noesi. A little shaky, but he got the job done. Nice job.
His first MLB appearance probably should bit have happened in a must-win situation with no one else in the pen. He’s only been on the roster for seven years.
*not* have happened in a must-win situation…
not pitching in almost 2 weeks will do that to you
noesi to the rotation!
Who should he replace?
Can’t wait for the recap on this one
I don’t think I’ll ever forget this game. And the nervous twitch I acquired while watching it probably won’t go away for a week.
That game was certainly memorable.
That was awesome. I liked Noesi out there, wouldn’t mind seeing him get the next shot at a rotation spot (if need be) over Silva.
1,220? How the heck was there not a spillover thread here?
Mike’s a lazy
