Game 66: A different kind of lineup

(Photo Credit: Flickr user BrainNY08 via Creative Commons license)

Apparently unimpressed by Brett Gardner‘s a) 3-for-4 with a walk performance last night, b) his .364 OBP against left-handed pitchers this year, and c) his .361 OBP against left-handed pitchers in his career, Joe Girardi is sitting his regular left fielder tonight in favor of Andruw Jones against southpaw Derek Holland. With Derek Jeter on the disabled list and Gardner on bench, tonight’s leadoff hitter is … Nick Swisher. Swish is hitting .356/.438/.576 against lefties this year and did spend some time batting leadoff for the White Sox a few years ago, so it won’t be completely foreign. Plus it’s not like he has to change his game, he’s just got to keep doing what he’s been doing against lefties this year, that’s all. Don’t change a thing. Here’s the rest of the lineup…

Nick Swisher, RF
Curtis Granderson, CF
Mark Teixeira, 1B
Alex Rodriguez, DH
Robinson Cano, 2B
Andruw Jones, LF
Eduardo Nunez, SS
Frankie Cervelli, C
Ramiro Pena, 3B

Ivan Nova, SP

The weather has been gorgeous all day and will remain that way this evening. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm ET and it can be seen on YES locally and ESPN nationally. Enjoy.

Transaction Updates (6:40 p.m.) The Yankees made a flurry of pre-game transactions this evening. The club announced they have signed Cory Wade to a Major League deal and added him to the 25-man roster. Kevin Whelan has been sent down to AAA, and to make room for Wade on the 40-man, Rafael Soriano has been moved to the 60-day DL. He will not be eligible to come off until July 12.

Wade, who will wear number 53, has thrown well for AAA this year. In 38.1 innings with the Rays’ Durham franchise and Scranton, he has gone 3-1 with a 1.17 ERA. He has struck out 35 and walked just six. The 28-year-old last pitched in the Majors in 2009. In parts of two seasons with the Dodgers, he threw 99 innings with a 3.18 ERA and struck out 69 while walking 25. If anything, he’s likely to throw more strikes than Whelan and provides the bullpen with some much-needed depth.

  1. IRF says:

Why DH Arod? I think Jorge as a RHH is slightly less useless than Pena

    • That is to give A-Rod the halfday off. The choice was either Pena and A-Rod or Pena and Jorge (who is bad against LHP), not A-Rod and Jorge.

    • Phil says:

Gotta love Ramiro Pena getting some a/b’s against anyone. Not only can he pick it defensively, but the kid can flat-out rake!

Nice shot into the right-centerfield bleachers to make it 7-4 and a really great a/b. I think this kid has finally grown up and is a better than replacement value shortstop who is versatile enough to play 3b & 2b too.

  2. TCMiller30 says:

Gotta love Andruw Jones getting some playing time..

    If you’re Derek Holland.

  3. Cy Pettitte says:

Yankees have signed RHP Cory Wade and added him to the MLB roster. Hmm?

  4. T.J. says:

The bottom third of the lineup is a black hole.

  5. radnom says:

    Frankie Cervelli, C

I’ve been pretty patient regarding Montero over the past few months, but I am officially about three days past the “he should have been called up before now phase”. I reached this point after Martin’s failed attempt to return to the lineup.

Why even push it? He is a guy who has complained of overuse in the past and is coming off some nasty injuries that really sapped his effectiveness. Considering the current roster situation, Montero not being called up is completely incomprehensible unless either 1) He isn’t 100% healthy right now (possible) or 2) They know with certainty that Martin is completely fine and will be 100% within a few days.

  6. Karl Krawfid says:

    Killer G’s?

    Granderson and Gardner gangstas?

  7. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

This game will get me ready for having a pitcher hit in the NL parks.
    Hurry back, Eric.

  8. Montero's Agent says:

The bottom of the line-up looks like something Joe would have sent out as manager of the Marlins.

  9. jay h says:

    the binder has spoken

  10. Guy Montag says:

So Girardi sits two of his hottest hitters for Pena and Jones? Gotta have the righty lefty matchups!

  11. Rough Around the Edges says:

Bold statement: the bottom 4 will out hit the top 5 hitters

  12. Kiersten says:

    C- lineup? C- lineup. Sigh.

  13. Guest says:

So…Pena is a better option against a lefty than Jorge? Pena struggles big time (even for Pena) against lefties. I know Jorge has struggled against lefties this year, but it is a pretty extreme aberration from his career numbers. Plus he’s hotter than (insert name of hot person here). Hopefully, he just wanted to give A-Rod a “DH-day” and figured now was as good a time as any.

And still no Martin on the DL. Amazing stuff. Also, if what Ben says about them preferring to bring up Romine over Montero if they are going to call up a prospect at catcher is true, I, I, I just don’t know what to think anymore.

Montero’s not ready but Romine is? Wasn’t Romine struggling to hit AA pitching um…last year? Isn’t he still in AA? Hasn’t he had not one single at bat above AA? If calling up Montero would stunt his development, what in the expletive would calling up Romine do to Romine’s development?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: either the Yanks feel that Montero must be protected like a fabrege egg, or something really major is up.

    • YankeesJunkie says:

While Romine has played well offensively this year and Montero has been slumping what would the Yankees be showing if they jumped Romine over Montero to the majors. If the Yankees don’t think Montero can catch then they need to trade him because Tex is going to be at 1B for the next 5.5 years.

  14. YankeesJunkie says:

What do you mean give Cervelli a chance? He has gotten more than a chance to show what he can give to the Yankees and outside April 2010 he has been beyond worthless. I could understand and approve him playing if he was playing defense like Molina, fact of the matter is he has gotten a chance and is no more than a back up who can’t throw out any runners. Time to give Montero a shot.

  15. S says:

if martin is going to miss this many games, just dl him so he can recover and call up Jesus

    • MannyGeee says:

1/2 of this. If Martin is gonna miss the time, put him on the DL and use the poster spot, ESPECIALLY with interleague coming up.

bringing up Montero, as much as we would love him to be, should be an aside of this conversation.

  16. Greg says:

Gardner will get in this game. I guarantee that.

  17. Pat D says:

I think we’ve discussed this before, but, yea, this guy got a great deal.

I’m supposing it would be unethical for MLB to provide any money to the Wilpons at this point, right? Considering that said money could be used to pay back Einhorn.

  18. Greg says:

I am also convinced that Montero has not been up because the Yanks do not want to hurt his trade value.

  19. Skip says:

What’s the news on Gordon? Did we sign him at 6 or not?

  20. MikeD says:

It’s almost as if the Onion writers are based in NY. Oh, I think they might be.

    • MannyGeee says:

      fucking hilarious

NEW YORK—Yankees captain Derek Jeter hit a seeing-eye wormburner through the left side of the infield for his 2,994th career hit Monday, leaving him just six toppers down the third-base line, Texas Leaguers, or check-swing humpback liners short of 3,000 hits.

    • JohnnyC says:

I guess they’ve never seen Ichiro play.

  21. Greg says:

They are going to be swinging early in the counts, which could work to our advantage.

  22. Greg says:

    That’s Nova’s fault.

  23. Cy Pettitte says:

    I hate Cervelli so much

  24. Justin says:

I guess its a good thing Cervelli throws into left-center field now instead of right center?

  25. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

And that’s the catcher that Cashman wants to “give a chance”

  26. Nuke LaDoosh says:

    good throw has him

  27. Mike Axisa says:

    Yeah that was on Nova.

  28. MikeD says:

Wow, that was unexpected. I mean expected.

  29. xnyles says:

    Big spot right here

  30. King George says:

Let the starting pitcher trade talk commence in 3…2…1…go

  31. Cy Pettitte says:

    Kuroda please

    • bonestock94 says:

Kuroda strikes me as impossible. He took an undermarket deal early, didn’t appear to even test the market, just to stay in LA. I can’t imagine him waiving his NTC.

    • Tom Zig says:

What’s the fascination with Kuroda? 36 years old. Low K numbers. (But also low BB numbers.)

I mean sure he’s probably better than AJ Burnett, Nova, and Garcia, but is he better enough to warrant trading something of value for?

  32. Greg says:

Nunez has to get to that ball.

  33. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Wow Nova

  34. bonestock94 says:

Shit, Hamilton missed that much time for drugs? Wow, I thought there were injuries mixed in there.

  35. Freddy's Mom says:

Now it’s their turn. Looking already like it could be a big inning. Better hope we can hit Wilson.

  36. Kostas says:

Long night ahead. Buckle in and get comfortable. Or turn on game 7 of the NHL finals.

  37. King George says:

Watching this fucking atrocious combo of Nova and Cervelli is eating at my insides. So bad.

    • Skip says:

Nova is doing his job. Every ball except for that first one to Kinsler has been a weak dribbler on the ground. That’s what you expect out of a sinkerballer.

Cervelli…yeah, not much to say there.

    • Sheepmeister says:

wait until the bottom 1/3 of the lineup is up to bat.

    • bonestock94 says:

I can take Nova for what he is, a young pitcher with control issues. I can’t deal with Cervelli, there seems to be a ton of no bat all glove free agent catchers available every year. Cervelli has neither.

  38. Mike Axisa says:

Alright, two runs is no big deal.

  39. first time lawng time says:

    What a shitty lineup.

Where’s Jorge? I’d let him catch instead of Cervelli.

Get rid of Jones; he’s useless.

  40. Cy Pettitte says:

    Cruz looks sooooooooooooooooo bad

  41. Montero21 says:

what the hell is going on??? Martin still is out and Montero is off today for SWB ( no games today) I guess the Yanks would rather have a 40% Martin on the bench and a terrible Cervelli rather then their top prospect who is a catcher. Can someone please explain this to me. BTW PLEASE STOP WITH THE ROMINE CRAP, HE’S CONCUSED AND NOT EVEN CLOSE TO COMING TO NY

    • Greg says:

Again, its because the Yankees dont want him to lose trade value. Especially since his defense is bad.

      • Karl Krawfid says:

This doesn’t make a bit of sense.

      • JobaWockeeZ says:

If eh struggles he struggles like many other young baseball player.s Did Smoak lose trade value because he didn’t rake right away?

And it’s not like a scout can go to Scranton and see his bad defense there or anything.

A lot of teams probably scouted Montero at this point, there’s nothing to hide.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

Either Montero slept with a lot of wives or Cashman wants him to play every day because he’s their top prospect and needs to play like one.

      • Stratman9652 says:

See, the playing everyday thing is what gets me. During ST they were pretty open to the idea of “Posadaing” him and letting him split time half and half with Martin to get him adjusted. Now Cash is saying that if he isn’t THE starting catcher he won’t be called up?

    • JMK says:

What reasonable person is bringing up Romine?

      Key word: reasonable

  42. James A says:

If they’re going to run successfully with reckless abandon on Cervelli (which people are worried will happen with Montero), what is the point of having him on the roster? In 416 career AB’s he has a .662 OPS, I guarantee you Montero can do a lot better than that.

    • JMK says:

See, but it’s probably more nuanced than that. First, Montero is not exactly destroying AAA; second, he’s been out for undisclosed reasons that could be something of a punishment; and third, if he struggles, it could bring a lot of undue pressure onto the guy when he’s not ready.

I don’t know the state of his ‘mental toughness’ and certainly would rather see just about anyone but Cervelli catch, but I’m ok with Montero staying down in AAA for now.

  43. Nuke LaDoosh says:

Swish leadoff drag bunt for a base hit…NOT.

  44. JMK says:

    Is this the C lineup?

  45. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Heh. Even Kay thought the bottom of the order was bad.

  46. first time lawng time says:

It’s like an automatic 4 outs from the bottom 4/9 of the lineup.

  47. Kostas says:

Curious, was there no better options to fill a bench than Andrew Jones? Just seems to be such a waste of a roster spot.

  48. James A says:

Alright, game plan for everyone not named Granderson, Tex, A-Rod, and Cano. Don’t swing

  49. Kostas says:

Another hit batter. Kind of ridiculous.

  50. Pastadivingpena says:

Other teams will figure out the yankees are pitching out whe granderson starts sprinting to 2 nd base.

  51. Cy Pettitte says:

woooooow Teix is a fucking monster

  52. Nuke LaDoosh says:

send me a million dollars Mark

  53. Mike Axisa says:

See? Two runs. No big deal.

  54. Guy Montag says:

And just like that. All Nova has to do is be decent, we crush Holland.

  55. bonestock94 says:

    Holy crap, nice bomb

  56. Pastadivingpena says:

    Nuke calls it
    Good show

  57. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

  58. JobaWockeeZ says:

We got two batters ahead of Mantle at this point!

  59. JMK says:

I’m thrilled with Teix’s season but is anyone surprised that his average has declined so much in the past few seasons?

    • Rainbow Connection says:

Average is meaningless. If you spent more time in your mother’s basement, you’d know that.

      • JMK says:

I’m not sure if this is trolling or not, but average is not meaningless. Do other statistics provide a more accurate picture of a player’s value? Sure, but to say it’s meaningless is flat-out wrong.

        • Rainbow Connection says:

I’m just trying to fit in with everyone here.
A SP’s wins are meaningless, too, unless a Yankee SP has a lot of wins.
          Am I doing ok?

        • Jose the Satirist says:

The big issue with the decreased batting average is it lowered his OBP. His IsoD has actually gone up in recent years, but it just hasn’t made up for that decreased batting average.

        • JobaWockeeZ says:

He’s mocking RAB probably because of how a lot of people dismiss it.

        • Mike Axisa says:

No, his thing is building strawman arguments, tearing them down, then going “/RAB commenters” as if he’s not included in the general population.

    • Tom Zig says:

Extremely surprised. I know Batting average isn’t perfect, but 34 points off his average and over 50 off his career high is pretty significant.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

His LD rate was the same in 2009 and 2010 it’s just that he got a bit unlucky. But this year he’s hitting for FB probably trying to get more homers due to the short porch.

    • bonestock94 says:

His BABIP and OBP is lower than it was in the past in 2010 and 2011 so far.

  60. Chet K says:

    Sweet Jebus!! Nice job Teix!!

  61. King George says:

    Love it. Well done, Mark.

  62. first time lawng time says:

Something on my bucket list: catch a HR ball (hit by a Yankee, of course).

  63. Nuke LaDoosh says:

let’s not talk about Andy Hawkins.

  64. Greg says:

    Good hitting

  65. IRF says:

Well Cano is beginning to look like Cano

  66. King George says:

Is it greedy for me to ask Jones for a bomb?

  67. Nuke LaDoosh says:

    I’m Jonesin for a 3 run shot

  68. Kostas says:

Of the active players, Cano – assuming he can remain consistent, should reach 3000 hits in his career.

  69. Mike Axisa says:

    Hooray double steal.

  70. Zooboy says:

The Mother’s of Invention say: “Throw stikes.”

  71. first time lawng time says:

I’m so not used to the Yankees stealing bases. It’s nIce to see, though.

  72. Monteroisdinero says:

As long as Joe’s binder says don’t mess with the 2-5 spots we can take anybody.

Swish at leadoff? Joe is beyond hope.

  73. Kostas says:

WHAT are the Yankees doing? They don’t steal bases. That is completely wreckless managing by Girardi

  74. JMK says:

Haha, MSM must feel validated in false claim that Robbie is fast.

  75. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Let’s see if Eduvellna can do anything

  76. Pastadivingpena says:

    Make him throw strikes nooner

  77. IRF says:

    Damn you BABIP!

  78. Mike Axisa says:

Way to swing at the first pitch after the walk, Nunez.

  79. Chet K says:

Come on Nunez!! Hit the friggin’ ball baby!

  80. Greg says:

    That’s bad luck.

  81. Rainbow Connection says:

    Nunez acting like Jeets.

  82. Nuke LaDoosh says:

    bad luck
“you know susan, you can’t guide the ball”

  83. Karl Krawfid says:

    It’s like Jeter never left!

  84. Pastadivingpena says:

    Wtf. Why….

  85. JMK says:

Wow, that’s some luck. If Jeter were here he’d have at least managed a high chopper and been safe!

  86. Monteroisdinero says:

Nunez is going to hit alot better than folks think. That should have been a hit. He puts good wood on dee ball…

  87. Chet K says:

    Not into a dp though…..damn!

  88. bobtaco says:

So the Angels released Kazmir… could he be an effective LOOGY?

  89. Mike Axisa says:

The Endy Chavez catch is still ridiculous.

  90. Karl Krawfid says:

    Endy thought he struck out.

  91. aRX says:

Ok when even the batter is walking away…where did that miss?

  92. IRF says:

Phew, that throw made me really nervous

  93. Ivan says:

I my favorite moment of that game was when Beltran was caught looking strike 3 on that wainwright curveball.

  94. Guy Montag says:

Where did that miss? Same thing happened last night with Teix at the plate. Obvious strike called a ball.

  95. nsalem says:

    Cervelli finally throws someone out!!!!!

  96. Montero21 says:

over under Cervelli K’s coming up??

  97. Chet K says:

    Cervelli….you need to boost that .176 average….get a hit.

  98. bonestock94 says:

That Mets-Cards series was awesome, I bet my friend $50 that they wouldn’t make it to the WS in January. Made the Beltran K so sweet.

  99. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

(insert comment about how bad Cervelli is here)

  100. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Montero could have done that.

  101. Montero21 says:

I hate Cervelli and up comes his shitty brother Pena…..when I went to NY games last year those 2 walk around like Mantle & Maris, unreal

  102. Mike Axisa says:

Whoa, what’s up new stance Ramiro Pena?

    • Jimmy McNulty says:

He figured he couldn’t possibily be any shittier than old stance Ramiro Pena.

    • MannyGeee says:

that what all the kids in Scranton are doing…

    • Stratman9652 says:

Whatever it is, it seems to be working for him. I saw him play over the weekend and every ball he hit he friggin crushed, the ball sounded great off his bat. Didn’t look like the old noodle bat Pena at all.

  103. Montero21 says:

Pena is good for 3 hits a year, now he used up one already…GREAT

  104. Karl Krawfid says:

Pena has been kinda hot at AAA.

Nice to see him get a hit.

  105. Jimmy McNulty says:

    Awesome double.

  106. Mike Axisa says:

Whaaaa why is Nick Swisher leading off.

  107. aRX says:

    3 run jack?

  108. IRF says:

There better be a GIF of that in the morning. Get on it Internet

  109. Pastadivingpena says:

Beltre always has that pissed off steroid look .

  110. Greg says:

Its Girardi knows what he’s doing

  111. MannyGeee says:

the BABIP gods agree with “Jeter on the DL talk for the past 20 minutes on ESPN, including in depth analysis on calfs and the SS position by Barry Larkin and Nomar Garciaparra”

    good for Swish

  112. Jimmy McNulty says:

Playing the game the right way! Manufacturing runs!

God damnit I wanted a fucking HR.

  113. Feim says:

Damn! Kazmir released and still unsigned by Yanks?

  114. Jose the Satirist says:

There was a stretch during that year where Mantle hit 17 HR in 28 games and had around a 1.500 OPS.

  115. Cy Pettitte says:

    Kinsler HR? ew

  116. Greg says:

That didnt sound like a homer to me.

  117. aRX says:

I forgot he could do that. Meh.

  118. Pastadivingpena says:

    Fargin NOVA

  119. Mike Axisa says:

And Nova gives it right back. First batter.

  120. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Good thing we crush Holland

  121. Rough Around the Edges says:

I loved CGrand’s reaction on the HR.

  122. King George says:

Where are all you sad Nova apologists now??

    • Rainbow Connection says:

“He’s relly relly kool because he threw at battista!?! how DARE anyone but the yankees hit hr’s! nova has ballz!?!”

  123. Skip says:

Jeter mentoring Nunez? No wonder Eduardo swung at the first pitch, bases loaded, right after a walk. It all makes sense now.

  124. Pastadivingpena says:

So nova throwing batting practice now?

  125. dkidd says:

    i’ll settle for a double

nova + hamilton = bad news

  126. Nuke LaDoosh says:

am I supposed to know who Bald Vinny is?

  127. first time lawng time says:

    OMG that is so cute.

  128. Karl Krawfid says:

Don’t like the Yankees playing that shallow with Nova pitching.

  129. Pastadivingpena says:

Over and under on seeing noesi tonight?

  130. MannyGeee says:

Granderson getting burned deep, that doesnt happen much. at all.

  131. Ivan says:

Might be one of them 10-9 games here.

  132. M-Three says:

I got no problem with adding Cory Wade to the pen. I remember when he was the Dodger set-up man a few years ago in the postseason and he did a solid job. The kid does throw strikes which is a good.

Plus, I know I will get ripped for this but I really just don’t trust Luis Ayala. I know someone will say looks at his numbers this year but as Michael Kay said during the game on Sunday Ayala has had no pressure on him so far. To me its just a matter of time until he become the same pitcher he was the last few years pitching to a 5 era and giving up many more hits than innings pitched. I would much rather see Noesi pitch the 7th inning and be the 2nd set-up man. He has better stuff and can throw more than 1 pitch. In fact I believe that Noesi throws 5 different pitches.

    • Mike Axisa says:

I don’t think anyone trusts Ayala. I just trust the rest of the bullpen even less.

      • MannyGeee says:

funny, I always thought he had a real trusting face… I would totally buy a used Hyundai from him.

      • M-Three says:

The only guys I trust in the pen are Mo, Robertson, maybe Logan if can start throwing strikes and Noesi. I much rather see the young arms get a chance in the late innings than journey man relievers like Ayala who can’t even reach 90 on his fastball.

  133. Karl Krawfid says:

    Jesus Christ Cano

  134. Greg says:

    that’s a tough play

  135. Hummingbird S. says:

Only hard hit balls against Nova..

  136. dkidd says:

    flat lazy

  137. MannyGeee says:

hoe-lee-shit is this gonna be one of those games

  138. Ivan says:

9/10 times Cano makes that throw on point.

  139. BklynJT says:

Robbie plays his worse defense when Nova is on the mound.

  140. Xstar7 says:

Derek Jeter would have made that play.

  141. Monteroisdinero says:

Texas has a pretty good offense folks but Robbie looked like Nunez on that throw. Thank God it wasn’t Nunez.

  142. IRF says:

How the hell is that a nice play Michael Kay? He circled around the ball

  143. Guy Montag says:

I hope they bring in Noesi soon. We can get more runs off Holland but Nova doesn’t look good against their good hitters.

  144. Pastadivingpena says:

Flip nova and noesi nova has stuff that is better suited for the pen

  145. dkidd says:

robbie needs to run that out. there are kids watching!

  146. MannyGeee says:

before I die, all i want to see is Cano LEG OUT AS FCKING GROUNDER!!!!!!

pretend they’re paying you, jack ass

  147. Kostas says:

Josh Johnson to the 60 day DL. Ouch. That hurts.

  148. Mike Axisa says:

Todd Helton and Ichiro for the trivia? Has to be.

  149. dkidd says:

    lol cervelli

  150. Greg says:

Good throw wouldn’t have gotten him I dont think so no anger.

  151. Hummingbird S. says:

    Cervelli stinks..

  152. Cy Pettitte says:

    wtf is Cervelli doing? christ.

  153. Xstar7 says:

    Cervelli is a soldier

  154. Pastadivingpena says:

My 8 yr old niece could have thrown the ball harder than cervelli just did
    Bring up molina

  155. Jetrer says:

yet another great throw by Cervelli

  156. Nuke LaDoosh says:

    Franchucksco Cervknoblauchelli

  157. MannyGeee says:

sorry, I am officially on the bandwagon. Montero needs to be called up. Cervelli is just chucking it around at this point.

  158. Mike Axisa says:

I would like Cervelli to throw the ball right on the bag at least once this season.

  159. TCMiller30 says:

Gotta love the back up catcher with poor D and no bat!!!

  160. Rough Around the Edges says:

C’mon Cervelli. I’ve seen 8 yr old girls throw better than that!

  161. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Fucking Cervelli

  162. Kostas says:

Heard a debate on Colorado radio about whether or not Todd Helton is Hall of Fame material. Answer was he would have to get 3000 hits to make it because of the Coors’ field effect. Argument was that the high number of doubles Helton has would be discounted because many “doubles” at Coors would be singles in any other park. Interesting.

    • MannyGeee says:

very interesting. IMO if Mattingly isnt in, then Helton isn’t in. same type of hitter, but Donnie did it better, and in a major market.

  163. Guest says:

    Alright, that’s it.

This iis ridiculous. This has to stop. I’ve even given up on the Montero thing (though I still don’t understand it).

Bring up Molina. Bring up the concussed underdeveloped Romine. The Frankie Cervelli Experience needs to come to an end.

  164. sean says:

cervelli sucks..why is he still on this team?

  165. Monteroisdinero says:

Kinsler needs to be brushed back. He is getting too comfy on the inner half.

  166. Guest says:

    Suggested meme:

    lol cervelli whatevs…

For every bad throw/at-bat where the hitter looks completely overmatched and outclassed

  167. Pastadivingpena says:

    Now taking new members.

  168. Karl Krawfid says:

    Cervelli needs to go

  169. Xstar7 says:

Cashman obviously doesn’t want to call up Montero. So why not give Gus Molina another go?

    • Guy Montag says:

I hope Martin not playing tonight means he’ll play the day game tomorrow. They weren’t going to play him in both anyway.

  170. aRX says:

If I’m them, I’d run wild. Until Cervelli proves he can throw straight, except for the absolute slowest runners, why not?

  171. Nuke LaDoosh says:

how nice would it be if a Boston team loses a game 7 tonight

  172. sean says:

just bring up montero COME ON!!!!!!

  173. Pastadivingpena says:

Someone needs to fart on cervelli’s pillow and give him the old pink eye

  174. Mike Axisa says:

That may have been the world’s longest scoreless half-inning.

    • Monteroisdinero says:

I know you dislike Nova and Nunez but these guys are both 24 and have potential/skills/health.

  175. Sheepmeister says:

Nova probably shouldn’t even take his glove off with the bottom 1/3 of the line up coming up.

  176. Pastadivingpena says:

    Cervelli=Cody Ransome bad!

  177. MannyGeee says:

do you think Girardi goes to the locker and drinks like Lindsey Lohan knowing that he spent his entire professional career being a decent defensive catcher and now he has to watch this asshole throw the ball arond like an 8 YO kid with ADD?

    I would…

  178. Karl Krawfid says:

  179. Cy Pettitte says:

  180. MannyGeee says:

    Derek who?

  181. aRX says:

    Oh. my. fucking. GOD.

  182. Pastadivingpena says:

    Atta boy nooner

  183. Montero21 says:

NUNEZ!!! I told ya…kid can HIT

  184. Guy Montag says:

Nunez hit that HR through Jeter!

  185. Ivan says:

Now thats a big league homerun Nunez. Happy Birthday to you.

  186. Xstar7 says:

Michael Kay: A BIRTHDAY BLAST FOR EDUARDO NUNEZ! This made me laugh.

  187. Greg says:

    who said Nunez couldnt hit?

  188. dkidd says:

    can nunez catch?

  189. Rob says:

no longer wally pipp’d , now eduardo nunez’d

  190. MannyGeee says:

anyone else listening to Nomar babble?

  191. Cy Pettitte says:

    Cervelli can’t do ANYTHING right

  192. Montero21 says:

when was the last time Jeter hit a HR to LF? 2008??

  193. King George says:

Is anyone fucking luckier than Derek Holland? I mean, geez.

  194. MannyGeee says:

wow, Cervelli got boned on that one

  195. Rob says:

at this point in the season cervelli may have put more balls in the outfield with his arm than with his bat

  196. Monteroisdinero says:

    Noony with a Moony!

  197. MannyGeee says:

did you hear the difference between Nunez’ hit and Pena’s? like a rifle vs a snapping pencil.

  198. MannyGeee says:

Swisher dancing out of the way of pitches that are not really inside at a ‘Jeterian’ pace.

  199. Mike Axisa says:

Damn, why would Girardi bat Swisher leadoff when all he does is get on base against lefties? That moron!

  200. Kostas says:

So how bad of a year has Swish had… Before the game tonight he and Posada had the same average…. .227 All other stats are fairly close.

  201. Xstar7 says:

The YES Network crew is really into that kid eating the ice cream.

  202. Mike Axisa says:

That kid with the ice cream is pretty awesome.

  203. Pastadivingpena says:

    Tied up
Over/under on Nova giving up a 3 spot here?

  204. MannyGeee says:

Hellickson & Beckett both only have 1 hit through 6. thats pretty wild.

  205. Cy Pettitte says:

that kid with the ice cream could be the next this kid

  206. Cy Pettitte says:

  207. Pastadivingpena says:

    Whoa E-4

  208. dkidd says:

this game is bad for the old blood pressure

    zen baseball…

  209. MannyGeee says:

fucking Nunez. a homerun on ur birthday doesnt buy you artistic licence on whether or not to put your body in front of the ball…

  210. Pastadivingpena says:

    My bad

  211. Rob says:

and jeter breathes a sigh of relief…

  212. King George says:

    • MannyGeee says:

hold your breath… Noesi is warming.

sidebar, am I the only one that misses Colon the long reliever, if for no other reason for the inevitible jokes after the “Colon has historically been quick to warm up” comment??

  213. Karl Krawfid says:

If Jeter would have done what Nunez just did, they would have called that a hit.

  214. cashman failed says:

    nova sucks

  215. King George says:

Fun fact: Of the last 32 batters Nova has faced, he has gotten behind the count 24 times.

  216. dkidd says:

thanks espn. never heard that story about how michael young is such a team player for moving positions

  217. Greg says:

Bruins up 1-0 in the 1st period.

  218. Pat D says:

Who’s gonna pick up Scott Kazmir? St. Louis?

  219. Pastadivingpena says:

    Nova for KRod and beltron

  220. aRX says:

    A miracle…

  221. dkidd says:

wouldn’t it be funny if we won this game?

  222. Rob says:

i thought it was 4-4, why did the yes graphic just show 5-4 texas?

  223. Monteroisdinero says:

Nova is not pitching great but Texas beat us last year and they have a darn good offense and are healthy.

    /just sayin

  224. Jose the Satirist says:

Cruz is 0 for his last 17. That is rough.

  225. Karl Krawfid says:

    This game sucks.

    So boring.

  226. Kostas says:

Cano didn’t swing … he is in a slump

  227. MannyGeee says:

i miss Home Run A Rod…. although we’ll take the base on balls over the chopper to 2nd

  228. Cy Pettitte says:

Alex should have slapped it out of his glove

  229. Kostas says:

Man, I just can’t believe the Yankees wasted money on this guy. Never been an Andrew Jones fan.

  230. Mike Axisa says:

Whaaa why is Jones on this team. Greg Golson would have hit a triple.

  231. MannyGeee says:

    A Rod = TANK!

    A fast tank!!!!

  232. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

I was watching the Canucks game. What was the Kinsler play that they were talking about?

  233. Rob says:

nunez is good at fouling the ball off himself

  234. Mojo says:

I have to ask . . . Is Beckett actually this good? I counted him out after last season, but apparently he’s found the Holy Grail/Fountain of Youth/Sorcerer’s Stone.

  235. dkidd says:

    andruw stealing signs

  236. Mike Axisa says:

Damn, Yorvit’s getting mouthy with Andruw.

  237. Karl Krawfid says:

    That’s too damn bad Yorvit

  238. Jetrer says:

following a guy who never walks drawing a walk you swing at the first pitch over your head. Fuck you cervelli.

  239. Cy Pettitte says:

Cervelli is finally good for something

  240. Greg says:

    Run scored

  241. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Even Cervelli’s RBI hits result in outs

  242. JobaWockeeZ says:

Michael Kay loves to fucking think Cervelli is clutch.

  243. Chip says:

    Cervelli lives another day

  244. Karl Krawfid says:

Nunez looked like he didn’t even get tagged.

    Oh well.

  245. Mike Axisa says:

Shit. That will keep Cervelli on the roster for another week.

    • MannyGeee says:

somewhere in Scranton, Monteros infected eye just shed a tear

    • Ivan says:

I was saying the same thing too.

    • Guest says:

You know, I normally don’t root against guys on my favorite team.

But, in this instance, I was thinking the exact same thing.

This guy is like the anti-A-Rod/Lebron/Dirk pre-ring: People only seem to remember (MSM and coaches anyway) his good moments of which they are few and conveniently forget his bad moments of which they are many.

  246. dkidd says:

damn cervelli, getting nunez thrown out at 3rd

    where’s montero????????

  247. Rob says:

nunez gets shortstop tips from jeter and base running tips from posada

  248. Hummingbird S. says:

What a dumbass play by Nunez.

  249. nunez fan says:

    i love eduardo nunez

  250. Pastadivingpena says:

    Noesi please

  251. FIPster Doofus says:

Moreland’s a royal pain in the ass.

  252. Cy Pettitte says:

just noticed Holland has 0 K’s, that impressive, the C- line up not striking out once yet.

  253. Greg says:

    Could Cano have turned that?

  254. Guy Montag says:

Can ESPN just show the game rather than Barry Larkin talking about Jeter who isn’t even playing? And stop showing the Red Sox.

  255. Nuke LaDoosh says:

Is Grandy officially the best CF in baseball ?

  256. Mike Axisa says:

Man, that’s the kind of ball that dropped in for a hit for years with all those scrubby center fielders they ran out there. Good stuff, Grandy.

  257. Stratman9652 says:

If not for Grandy that would have been pastabarelymovingJones.

  258. Guest says:

Bautista, to my knowledge is a very good defensive rightfielder. And he will definitely put up far superior BA/OPS numbers to Grandy.

If (big if) the season plays out as it has so far, would the fact that Grandy plays a premium defensive position give him a sufficient boost that he could still end up MVP?

    • MannyGeee says:

plays for the Yankees = not a chance in fucking hell.

you saw how far above and beyond the rest of the league A Rod had to be for him to get his MVPs.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

Not even close. The voters don’t really care about premium positions as the main factor. Like Jesus Christ Bautista has a .500 OBP right now. It won’t last but Grandy will not be close at all.

      • Guest says:

This makes a lot of sense. And I know I would scream bloody murder if Bautista kept this up and DIDN’T win the MVP if it wasn’t for the fact that I *heart* Grandy so much.

  259. V says:

Blegh. My fantasy team has been under .200 5 of the past 7 days (4/31 so far today).

  260. Karl Krawfid says:

Why the hell did Cervelli stand up on that pitch?

  261. Guy Montag says:

2 run lead Ayala not as good as 8 run lead Ayala.

  262. Rough Around the Edges says:

Damn, Nova could’ve done that. C’mon Ayala.

  263. Pastadivingpena says:

    Logan up
    Get your ciggerettes ready.

  264. Cy Pettitte says:

Martin in a wheelchair would be better than Cervelli

  265. Karl Krawfid says:

  266. Pat D says:

  267. MannyGeee says:

    holy Cervelli glove batman!

  268. Jetrer says:

the Grandyman can do it all

  269. Mike Axisa says:

    Curtis Granderson, five tool player.

  270. Guy Montag says:

What a job by Grandy on that throw.

  271. Ivan says:

    Grandy is doing it all.

  272. Rob says:

cervelli can’t throw or hit, but he can tag like motherfucker

  273. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Cervelli buys himself the season.

  274. Rough Around the Edges says:

    Holy shit Curtis!

    Alas, poor Yorbit.

  275. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Curtis saved the women and children from Logan vs Hamilton.

  276. Pat D says:

Ayala, you do need to be a better in higher leverage situations.

  277. karcotte says:

    I’ve missed that fist pump.

  278. Alfredo says:

when will the yankees DL Martin and call up Montero. am getting tired of watching Cervelli start please Jesus come to the rescue.

  279. Crime Dog says:

Cervelli should be a pinch fistpumper

  280. AnthonyNH says:

Did it look like the runner tried to grab at cervelli’s glove after the tag?

  281. StanfordBen says:

Those were some sweet fist pumps. Good form.

  282. Stratman9652 says:

I knew that would lead to a Posey reference.

  283. Peter Lacock says:

Montero is still learning to make that play.

  284. Karl Krawfid says:

Brian Cashman is trolling Yankee fans.

    No Montero for us.

  285. Frank says:

That block of the plate was outstanding-that makes up for at least 2 bad throws.

  286. Alfredo says:

    good play.

  287. dkidd says:

    great play by cervelli

/all is forgiven until the next time’d

  288. Ivan says:

Is it me or has Pena got a tad bigger or muscular?

  289. Pastadivingpena says:

    Whats better?
The cervelli fist pump or the AJ pie in the face

  290. Karl Krawfid says:

6 runs scored so far with this lineup.

  291. MannyGeee says:

i forget that Pena is a switch hitter. its like being shitty in stereo

  292. King George says:

10 minutes later, still talking about Posey

  293. Mike Axisa says:

  294. Karl Krawfid says:

  295. Alfredo says:

montero i bet can do that. if he can’t he can make it up with his bat.

  296. Kevin G. says:

  297. Corporate Scum says:

  298. aRX says:

    what the FUCK!??!

  299. Guy Montag says:

Pena gonna outhomer Jeter this year! LOL!

  300. 24fan says:

    Pena power!!!!

  301. JobaWockeeZ says:

    THE FUCK?!

  302. Jetrer says:

    wtf Pena with a bomb

  303. Ivan says:

Holy Shit Pena!!!!! Was that really Pena who hit that bomb!!!

  304. King George says:

So for the time being, I have to eat crow. Pena is hitting the ball VERY well, far better than I had predicted he would.

  305. V says:

Lolol at the bottom of the lineup.

  306. Jerome S. says:

    *Laughs Ass Off*

  307. Cy Pettitte says:

    RAMIRO THE HERO!!!!!!!

  308. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    I wonder what Sterling’s homerun call was…

  309. Stratman9652 says:

Like I said earlier, he has been crushing the ball in Scranton. Looks like a totally different guy.

    • Monteroisdinero says:

Nice to have a Scranton perspective. Most folks here have never been to a game there. Wynegar and weight room!

  310. Rob says:

i think jeter is the only infielder that hasn’t hit a hr at the stadium this year

  311. Monteroisdinero says:

Nunez and Pena going deep. JoVa and Montero crying.

  312. Kevin says:

What is going on in this game? Pena, Nunez, Cerv, and Jones doing work.

  313. Pat D says:

I think that when Ramiro Pena hits a home run the baseball gods will not allow you to lose that game.

  314. Corporate Scum says:
  315. V says:

Lolol at the bottom of the lineup. Jones, Nunez, Cervelli, and Pena: 5/10 with 2 BBs, 2 HRs, 4 RBI and 4 Rs.

  316. Pastadivingpena says:

Rangers following the “dave brown rule in sports”
If the other team has a really bad player on their team, you do everything possible not to injure them for if you do the team gets better with a substitution.

  317. Chip says:

    Is this bizzaro land?

  318. Guest says:

As I was saying, FANTASTIC job by Joe of putting together this lineup card.

    /revisionist history’d

  319. Alfredo says:

wow a no douder by Pena!
I hope the yankees DL Martin tmorrow.

  320. Karl Krawfid says:

Maybe the Yankees are happy Jeter is gone :(

  321. Nuke LaDoosh says:

That Joe Girardi is a genius !

  322. Karl Krawfid says:

  323. King George says:

    OH, TEX

  324. Alfredo says:

    GO TEX

  325. Guy Montag says:

  326. Greg says:

    This is our C lineup?

  327. Pat D says:

Me: Let’s put this game away.
Teix (in The Bronx, five seconds later): ‘Kay.

  328. Kevin says:

Why is Tex nuking RF? Those poor fans.

  329. Mike Axisa says:

Too many homers, wakka wakka wakka.

  330. aRX says:

TEX!!! We might need to replace the M&M watch with Grandy and Tex :D

  331. Chip says:

Tex just wants to keep up

  332. MannyGeee says:

a no doubter by Tex! maybe he’s the MVP?

  333. Hall and Nokes says:

Dammit I lost my cable right in the middle of that Tex message! Where did that land?

  334. Skip says:

What a game. Not enough home runs, too many home runs. The MSM/blogosphere talking points are making my head explode.

  335. Ivan says:

  336. Alfredo says:

    nice piece of hitting.

  337. nsalem says:

Hot as Pistol but Cool Inside

  338. Mark trying to preserve the all Yankee All-Star diamond.

  339. Marcus says:

Grandy and Tex: Race to 61?

  340. Ivan says:

Wow the Yankees lead the league in homers by a wide margin.

  341. S says:

    that was a bullshit strikeout

  342. Kevin says:

    Cano the victim of pity.

  343. I Voted 4 Kodos says:

Holy shit did Tex crush that.

  344. King George says:

I’m so sick of hitting home runs. When is this offense going to start figuring it out? It’s pissing me off to see this team as a top 2 scoring team. Obviously, less home runs would get us to the #1 spot.

  345. MannyGeee says:

    2-0 Bruins

  346. Montero21 says:

Crushing the ball?? 50+ games with a .269 ave, 4 hrs 17 rbis??? Crushing the ball????

  347. Monteroisdinero says:

Nova wins ugly but Ayala needs a shorter leash.

  348. Kostas says:

From MLB Network. Adrian Gonzalez and Josh Beckett lead the league in BA and ERA. Name the last time team mates led the league in BA and ERA?

  349. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

The Rangers this year have given up home runs to Ramiro Pena, Eduardo Nunez, Francisco Cervelli and 2 to Derek Jeter.

    Nolan Ryan would be proud.

  350. Karl Krawfid says:

    Nice dp Tex

  351. Greg says:

    GOT HIM!

  352. Pastadivingpena says:

    Baseball gods love us

  353. Teix showing who the best first baseman in the mlb not in the central divisions is.

  354. Dela G says:

    Great dp there

  355. first time lawng time says:

I must say, this team has been so much fun to watch lately. Since the losing streak ended really (Boston seres notwithstanding).

  356. Cy Pettitte says:

    let’s see some Cory Wade

  357. Greg says:

told you Gardner would get in this game.

  358. Urban says:

I figure it must be a good night any game where Ramiro Pena does an impression of Roger Maris!

  359. Sheepmeister says:

So who will out of the rangers bullpen will be available tomorrow after making all their pitchers throw a ton of pitches.

  360. Elnino'sboomstick says:

    Noodle bat my ass

  361. Dela G says:

    Derek who???

  362. Cy Pettitte says:

    Jeter is so getting Pipp’d

    • Urban says:

Yeah, if only Nunez can stop making errors in the field and on the base. I’m not even sure Nunez has better range than Jeter.

I’m not here to knock Nunez, but I remain unimpressed.

  363. aRX says:

    Now he’s just showing off.

  364. jay h says:

    3-0 Bruins

    • Greg says:

Happy for the U.S. Dont really care about Boston.

    • aRX says:

*sigh* so much success heaped on such a shithole of a city. The obnoxiousness and insufferability of Boston fans goes up once again, and I didn’t even think that was possible.

      • Greg says:

Meh I really dont mind it as much as the Pats winning or the Red Sox winning. Its NESN National’s attitude about it that gets to me.

  365. Karl Krawfid says:

This speed makes me happy man.

  366. Guy Montag says:

He has more power and he’s faster. Derek Jeter is the next Wally Pipp.

    • Sheepmeister says:

but nunez is not even in the same universe as lou gehrig though.

    • Pat D says:

So you were watching MLBN too, eh?

    • Monteroisdinero says:

And a much better arm that he needs to work on a bit. Oh and he’s 13 years younger and 15M cheaper.

      • Urban says:

…and he makes at least one error, physical or mental, in just about every game.

I’d start Pena tomorrow at short.

        • Monteroisdinero says:

          and Nunez at 3rd. ARod-DH

          • Urban says:

If both are going to start, then I’d stick with Pena at third. As much as an issue as I have with Nunez at short, I have more with him at third. He’s not properly positioned whereever he’s playing.

I know there’s a lefty going, but I’d still start Posada. He’s a better hitter throughout his career as a righty, and he’s hitting better of late, and has looked better batting righthanded, too. I doubt we’ll get lucky two days in a row with Nunez/Pena, which is why’d I’d start Pena. I’ll go with the glove.

            • Monteroisdinero says:

I’ll go with speed and youth and a guy who can hit a HR and steal second and third in the same game. His 2 hits tonight=Sado’s total for the season against lefties.

              • Urban says:

Speed and youth is also Pena. He doesn’t have the upside of Nunez, but it’s unlikely he’ll make two errors per game, physical and mental, and Nunez did once again today. Even the seemingly nice play he made at the end was because of his position on the field. Notice how he always seems to be in-between hops, just as he was on that last play? That’s because of where he positions himself.

He needs to play everyday for a second-division club. I don’t know if Nunez if the right guy to be the backup.

I hope I’m wrong and that he starts to play better once he has a couple weeks of consistent playing time. He simply hasn’t been good since he came up last August.

  367. JobaWockeeZ says:

No Kay he’s been better tonight.

  368. Monteroisdinero says:

Nunez steals second and then does the claw and antler to the Ranger dugout.

    would have been awesome.

  369. Elnino'sboomstick says:

Now cervelli will go deep and top off the night.

  370. Dino Velvet says:

    Offense looks great without Jeter.

  371. Karl Krawfid says:

    Nunez baby!!

  372. Nuke LaDoosh says:

2 double steals in one game wow!

  373. Cy Pettitte says:

a good double steal makes me so happy

  374. nsalem says:

    antlers baby

  375. Dino Velvet says:

    Nunez is really showing off.

  376. Mike Axisa says:

Two sets of double steals in the same game? What the hell is going on here???

  377. aRX says:

Time for the 3 run jack?

  378. Elnino'sboomstick says:

Wow the posey thing has pussifed the play at the plate

  379. Cy Pettitte says:

    Cory Wade time, cool

  380. first time lawng time says:

    Texas Rangers should feel embarassed.

HR to Jeter and a GS to Cervelli in the same game.

HR each to Nuñez and Peña in the same game.

  381. the tenth inning stretch says:

Player of the Game poll needed an Eduamiro Penunez option.

  382. Monteroisdinero says:

I may be wrong but it didn’t seem to me that Nova threw many changeups. He needs that pitch to be effective. If so, I’ll blame Cervelli.

  383. Karl Krawfid says:

    Rays couldn’t use this guy?

  384. Cy Pettitte says:

oooh I like this guy, pounds the zone and a nasty curve.

  385. Mike Axisa says:

Very nice inning for Wade. He just might be useful.

  386. Stratman9652 says:

    Nice glove Feliz. Wow.

  387. dc1874 says:

Scott Kazmir released by the Angels!!!!!

  388. Karl Krawfid says:

    Cano Chea!!!!

  389. Greg says:

  390. Cy Pettitte says:

    soooo many rbis for Robbie

  391. Stratman9652 says:

So if Cash doesn’t believe Jorge is prepared to be the backup catcher in times like this why not get him some work behind the plate during games like this?

    • JohnnyC says:

migraines from his concussion last season. he still gets them.

      • Urban says:

When they mentioned they weren’t starting him this season because of past confussions, I thought it was an easy cover to take a veteran and move him to DH. Yet I thought one value Posada would provide as a DH is he could also start at catcher from time to time. This would be one of those times when he’s hitting well, Martin is injured, and they’re going on the road to the NL where there is no DH.

The fact that he’s not even being considered lends stronger support to the concussion story.

  392. Kevin G. says:

Thanks for killing my fantasy team Cano. Dick. (sarcasm… kinda)

Hmm, do I start CJ Wilson in fantasy tomorrow?

  393. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

SO much fun to hammer Feliz

  394. Chip says:

O man, this is officially out of control

  395. Mike Axisa says:

The entire infield has homered tonight.

  396. the tenth inning stretch says:

Man, balls are just flying outta here. The way our hitters are locked in, these upcoming series in NL bandboxes should be fun.

  397. Rob says:

what are the chances we beat them again 12-4 tomorrow?

  398. Kevin says:

Cano just loves to play the game. Love that guy.

  399. King George says:

Dave O’Brien on ESPN: “And Cano helps the Yankees break it open on that home run”

Oh, ok…so on the 5th home run and extending the lead to 8, THAT is when you break the lead open. Glad we got that clarified.

  400. rek4gehrig says:

    A great line up :-)
Ps. Jeter needs to go on te 60 day DL

  401. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    I kinda forgot about Marquez

  402. Karl Krawfid says:

    Nice play Nunie

  403. Monteroisdinero says:

    Nunez on D baby!!!!

  404. Not sure if Jeter would have made that play

  405. Avi says:

Baseball America ranks Dante Bichette Jr as the 15th best prospect in the state of Florida.

  406. Kevin says:

So Hughes is apparently only three starts away from the mlb at least according to Pedro Gomez of ESPN. Doubtful.

  407. Sean C says:

Why does ESPN seem to hate it when the Yankees hit homeruns? I bet if these assholes could travel back in time they’d bitch about Babe Ruth destroying every other pitch.

  408. nsalem says:

    double digits

  409. Urban says:

    Great game.

Hopefully they keep it rolling tomorrow.

  410. Pat D says:

How dare they hit five home runs and only one double?!?

(Reference comment #1 on this article: http://www.baseball-reference......ives/11853)

  411. V says:

Blegh. Benched Bourn because I got word at 6:30 that he had the flu and was out of the lineup.

2/3 with 2 SBs doesn’t look like ‘out of the lineup’.

  412. nunez fan says:

ppls hate nunez because hes a latino with black skin.

    • nunez fan says:

nunez > jeter. his bat makes up for the errors. jeter sucks at offense and defense.

this team is built on hitting GET USED TO IT. this team isnt built on fundamentals like clean defense + pitching. we win games by SLUGGING BALLS OUT. If you still dont get it then you stupid.
