  1. Salty Buggah says:

    JESUS FTW!

  2. Mattchu says:

5-5 night im calling it right now :D

  3. David, Jr. says:

I forget. Who is pitching for us?

  4. Melky says:

I don’t remember being this excited for Hughes.

  5. I for one will be… disappointed if his Sterling HR call is “Montero is Dinero”.

    But hey, go Jesus!

    • Zanath says:

His homerun call will be Jesus saves. Count on it.

      • DCBX says:

I’d betcha a cold one that will NEVER happen. Sterling has been in broadcasting too long to EVER say anything that likely to piss off a bunch of religious folk. Even Pa Pinstripe knows better than that.

“Hey, Zeus… with a lightning strike to right center!”

“Hey, Zeus with the thunderbolt to rain on the Sawx’ parade” etc.

He’s corny, but not straight stupid.

    • Owen Two says:

      Holy Jesus!

  6. Sheepmeister says:

When I heard the news he was in the lineup, my first and only thought.

  7. Mattchu says:

Imagine the the sight if Montero was trying to catch A.J. tonight

  8. Mbovasso says:

    Isn’t it AJ

  9. tom says:

This game is on paper such a pitching mismatch that I’m going in with expeectations below sea level. Which’ll make it easier to watch it as Montero’s debut alone.

  10. Man, Saltalamacchia is gonna be pissed if Montero HRs tonight.

  11. Zach says:

If we lose and the Rays win..they’ll be five games back of us. Win tonight guys!

  12. boogie down says:

It would be amazing if Jesus drove an opposite field homer off of Lester, just to see/hear the collective “Oh, shit” from the Fenway folks.

  13. Stratman9652 says:

Surprised by Montero’s accent. A mix of Venezuelan and Pennsylvanian. Go figure.

  14. Greg says:

    Big noght tonight.

    Montero debuts
Jets and Giants play their final preseason game
    College Football begins.

  15. Melky says:

Is there a chance Mike will have to split these threads?

  16. Jesse says:

Jesus goes 0-3 and you’ll hear the word “bust” somewhere in the media.

  17. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

AJ’s line tonight? I’m going to be optimistic and say 5IP, 5 hits, 3 runs, 4K’s, 3 BB’s. And wins in back of Jesus’s 4-4 with 4 Grand Slams debut 16-3.

  18. Bronx Byte says:

What uniform number will Montero have ? Hopefully not a high football number.

  19. Ivan says:

Im so excited rite now. Jesus long waiting debut is upon us and I just cant believe it. Lets go Jesus, lets go Yankees.

  20. bonestock94 says:

    Don’t fuck with the Jesus

  21. Roland Deschain says:

Jesus has been summoned to be our savior. We’re going to need his bat tonight and as a Yankee official said, Jesus will be our best option at DH going forward. Burnett just needs to not take us out of the ballgame entirely and Jesus will do the rest.

  22. Rainbow Connection says:

I think I figured out AJ’s problem. He’s used to having time off due to injuries. With the Yanks, he’s been pretty much healthy and hasn’t gotten 2 weeks off here and there. That’s all he needs.
His being healthy is his undoing!
    Problem solved.

    • Greg says:

Actually I’ve heard that theory before. I think when AJ first came to the Yankees, the main concern was injury.

The fact that is he is pitching full seasons when he was injured before might have a tiring factor on him.

  23. Jamey says:

So is Phil Mickelson the Snoop Dogg of MLB? I swear I’ve seen him get the “honorary _____” treatment or wearing gear for like 20 different teams.

    • Rainbow Connection says:

Is Phil a complete sell-out and hypocrite, too? I honestly don’t know.

      • Jamey says:

lets just say it evens out that he is because I’m sure there’s probably a picture of him & Snoop hanging out, cause Snoop just does shit like that. “Dats a pic of me n’ my boy Bieber son”

  24. Jimmy McNulty says:

Wash away the sins of the monster with your bat my son.

  25. Xstar7 says:

It’s the rubber match of a Red Sox-Yankees series with the Yankees top prospect debuting and the text poll question is about college football rivalries? Weak.

And Phil Mickelson is a Red Sox fan? Now I like him even less…

  26. dkidd says:

when jesus gives his pitcher a pep talk: “jesus gives a sermon…on the mound!”

when jesus hits a tough pitch: “jesus turns water into…line drives!”

when jesus blocks a curveball in the dirt with a runner on third: “jesus saves…a run from scoring!”

    /me for the next 15 years’d

  27. wolf larson says:

Hate to spoil fun but I bet Lester drills Montero at some point tonite. Sox are a nasty bullying club that has led league in hit batsment over the last decade or so.

  28. Corporate Scum says:

I want to go ahead and get on record:

    BUST!!!!

He’s been up since September 1, and hasn’t even reached base ONCE in the major leagues. Pathetic. Let’s hurry up and trade him for right handed middle relief while we still can.

  29. Kelly says:

excited to see montero. as for the callups i was expecting noesi to be here

  30. Karl Krawfid says:

I wonder, if AJ pitches well will it buy him another year of suckage.

“Remember that game he pitched against the Red Sox in September!”

  31. Alfredo says:

I will be surprised if we win tonight. GO MONTERO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. Karl Krawfid says:

    lol at that little kid!

  33. Graham lloyd says:

Wen typing “jesus” into google. Montero comes up before christ. Anticipation? I think so

  34. Grit for Brains says:

    ZOMG ZOMG !!1!! teh ZOMG

    ::Head Explodes::

  35. Rainbow Connection says:

Why do they keeping saying this game is a battle for first place? The Yanks are 1.5 games behind, not 0.5.

  36. eephus says:

I’m surprised no one has said they put him in the line up to take some of the spotlight off of AJ which could be one of the reasons he is playing right away. Regardless I’m excited!

  37. Stratman9652 says:

So according to the ticker at the bottom of the screen, MLB fined Lackey for drilling Cervelli. Glad something was done, no way was that unintentional.

  38. Xstar7 says:

Jawn Lestah with a wicked strikeout of Dereck Jeetah.

  39. Greg says:

More of those please and less K’s.

  40. Cy Pettitte says:

    Teix got a hit? amazing.

  41. IRF says:

    Granderson makes that play

  42. jon says:

home run to get to 100 rbis

  43. Xstar7 says:

Tex hits a lot better from the right side.

  44. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

with Tex’s luck I kinda expected them to get Grandy at 2nd

  45. CP says:

Granderson makes that catch standing up.

  46. RCA says:

We actually rock Lester….Didn’t know that. Hopefully we can do it again.

  47. Cy Pettitte says:

Robbie!!!!! oh yea, only need 11 more to AJ proof this.

  48. Roland Deschain says:

They’re all SAFE! Find a way to get those two runs in!

  49. nedro says:

    WOW! that was close, rob.

  50. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

That was a gritty slide. Pure grit avoided the tag.

  51. bonestock94 says:

Lestah not looking like an ace

  52. Xstar7 says:

Robinson! The Yankees need to score as many runs as they can with AJ on the mound tonight.

  53. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Is it just my confirmation bias, or does Cano absolutely crush the Red Sox?

  54. IRF says:

That was an insanely athletic slide

  55. The Big City of Dreams says:

Cano just stole the midget’s move

  56. Corporate Scum says:

Swisher walks, Jones makes an out…. Jesus gets his first four RBI’s?

  57. Monteroisdinero says:

    Pitch count heading up nicely.

  58. Xstar7 says:

Lester has thrown 25 pitches already.

  59. Cy Pettitte says:

    great AB regardless of outcome

  60. Esteban says:

Oh that was the pitch you struck out on? Ay caramba Swisher.

  61. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    whatevs. still a great AB.

  62. Xstar7 says:

Dammit, that was ball 4 Swish.

  63. Cy Pettitte says:

ewww Swish, don’t see that kind of swing often

  64. Monteroisdinero says:

    Swish-so painful

  65. Mike Axisa says:

    Bah. Clean this up, Andruw.

  66. Cy Pettitte says:

where is the PIP Jesus cam?

  67. StanfordBen says:

I assume we’re all rooting for a Jones walk here to load the bases for…

  68. Alex Taffet says:

I feel like a teenage girl. I’m fidgeting in my chair with excitement.

  69. Stratman9652 says:

Yes… walk Jones to get to Montero. I dare you.

  70. Esteban says:

Walk Andruw to load the bases for Heyzeus. It’s destiny

  71. Tom says:

Why am I so excited for his AB???

  72. Naved says:

    Come on get a walk!!!

  73. Mike Axisa says:

That … looked like a strike.

  74. Esteban says:

The Jesus doesn’t look as bulked up as I though he would. Maybe it’s just the road grays?

  75. Tom says:

anyone know what number montero has?

  76. CP says:

Montero looks like he’s wearing the anti-Cervelli helmet…

  77. Esteban says:

Nice at least 37 pitches in the 1st.

  78. Chris says:

…and standing on deck, is the future!

  79. jon says:

    jones better walk

  80. Roland Deschain says:

Push those runs home. Swisher should have made contact or taken the walk.

  81. Chris says:

You know if they want to speed up the game, that should count as a mound visit.

  82. bonestock94 says:

    Andruw’s gonna belt it

  83. JobaWockeeZ says:

    YES WALKED!

  84. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

What an at bat by Jones.

  85. blazing fastball says:

Let’s hope his little stint on the cross a while back didn’t affect his hitting

  86. Roland Deschain says:

Here he is! It’s boom or bust, Jesus.

  87. Cy Pettitte says:

OH MY GOD, IT:S JESUS TIME

    omg omg omg

  88. Stratman9652 says:

    This could be toooo cool.

  89. Naved says:

    HERE WE GO!

  90. IRF says:

    I’m giddy

  91. Greg says:

    Here comes Montero.

  92. Chris says:

YES! I CAN SEE THE YANKEES CLASSIC NOW! LETS GO JESUS!!!!!!!!!!

  93. bonestock94 says:

    JEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSs

  94. Monteroisdinero says:

    ohhhhhhhh baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  95. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Let’s do dis Jesus

  96. Karim Garcia says:

    Oh my God!

  97. jon says:

    jesus doesnt look THAT big

  98. Chen Meng Wang says:

    JESUS!!!!!

  99. Mike HC says:

I’m pretty sure he won’t be “bored” during this at bat

  100. Total Dominication says:

I’m excited, and also really nervous.

  101. Chris says:

eek, settle down there big guy.

  102. Chen Meng Wang says:

    Btw, good evening everybody =D

  103. 4_Everbronx says:

    cmon!!!!

  104. Esteban says:

    Good eye kid.

  105. Esteban says:

    Make him work rook.

  106. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Good AB, good AB…

  107. Mike HC says:

He is catching up to 95 mph heat pretty good. Good sign.

  108. Mojo says:

Whatever happens in this AB, I’m just happy to see him in our lineup. Thank Mo for baby Jesus.

  109. Total Dominication says:

He’s already achieved what I wanted him too in this at bat.

  110. Justin says:

HES A BUST! SEND HIM BACK TO SCRANTON! TRADE HIM FOR A LOOGY!

  111. bonestock94 says:

    Veteran AB

  112. Chris says:

    oh well….

  113. nedro says:

    BUST!!!!

  114. Roland Deschain says:

Kid’s a bust. Just like the rest of the team, can’t hit with RISP.

  115. Esteban says:

Not surprised he struck out. Not upset either.

  116. Mike Axisa says:

I don’t care. Most exciting plate appearance of the year.

  117. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    He must still be board

  118. Chen Meng Wang says:

trade him, maybe we can get a bag of balls for him at this rate.

  119. Monteroisdinero says:

    oh well

  120. Alfredo says:

good at bat better pitching by Lester.

  121. Jetrer says:

    well that was anti-climactic
    Not a bad AB though

  122. jon says:

first at bat and takes 6 pitches from john lester? thatll do

  123. IRF says:

    What. A. Bust.

  124. 4_Everbronx says:

    well shit!!

  125. Total Dominication says:

6 pitches off of Jon Lester is a success in my book.

  126. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Normally I’d be thrilled with making Lester throw 43 pitches in the first no matter the outcome.

With Burnett on the mound though, I really wish we could’ve pushed more than 1 across.

  127. spectra says:

    That would have been cool

BUT HEY Lester is at 45 pitches and were up by one.

Now we just need another minor miracle in Burnett

  128. StanfordBen says:

What did Babe Ruth, Rogers, Hornsby, Ted Williams, Willie Mays, and Jesus Montero all do in their first major league at bats?

  129. RCA says:

I hope Lester is mad at himself and not the ump, those pitches (except the Jones high “ball”) were balls clearly. I hate when they try to intimidate the ump, good AB by Montero, this ain’t Triple AAA anymore kid and he’s already up to 43 pitches.

  130. Tom says:

Oh god he sucks, .000 avg vs lefties. Posada is clearly better, wtf…he blows….arhghaghhghag

  131. Stratman9652 says:

Like you didn’t see that coming.

  132. Zooboy says:

    Fits right in. (*sigh*)

  133. Alfred says:

Satisfied with that AB. He came up and it sure looked like a deer-in-the-headlight look in his eyes. First high fastball when he couldn’t hold up kind of confirmed this and then two impressive layoffs with 2 strikes, especially the outside pitch. Fought of some and was a great curve from Lester. Good AB.

  134. blazing fastball says:

Oh well… nowhere to go but up

  135. IRF says:

Alright AJ, theres you’re one run. Now go get us a win!

  136. Karl Krawfid says:

AJ will get smacked around here.

  137. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

The Yankees relievers still making their way to the bullpen? Can’t wait to hear about how Josh Beckett likes that!!

  138. Jay h says:

You all jinxed him with your talk of destiny. Way to go.

  139. Cy Pettitte says:

    I still love you, Jesus.

  140. RayFo says:

whine whine cry cry cry complain complain is all lester ever does. fuck him.

  141. Tom says:

and here we go with burnett…..good thing they are playing Montero or no one would watch this game…

  142. Karl Krawfid says:

    OMG he got 1 out!

  143. Cy Pettitte says:

time for one of those fabled AJ Burnett 2 hit shutouts

  144. Sarah says:

I’m taking it out by out. 1 down.

  145. Justin says:

Sad thing is , we made lester throw 45 pitches in the first inning. How much you wanna bet the next 2 innings the team swings at the first or second pitch and he has two 9 pitch innings?

  146. Karl Krawfid says:

I love his new motion btw.

  147. mbonzo says:

    AJ is hitting his spots.

  148. Kostas says:

This is why I don’t go to church… Jesus is just as pedestrian as the common man…..For now.

  149. Mike Axisa says:

Burnett changed something in his delivery.

  150. Chen Meng Wang says:

Did they announce Hughes to the bullpen or is Kenny speaking in hypotheticals?

  151. Tom says:

and the rally comes with 2 outs.

  152. Yankeefan91 Arod Fan says:

looks Like Burnett Change His Delivery A Lil Bit.

  153. nedro says:

1st wild pitch of the night?

  154. Monteroisdinero says:

So kids, my first ab in baseball I struck out just like Jeter and Swisher did.

    I did better after that.

    /Montero 2035

  155. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Kay, you are the only one who forgets about 09 Hughes.

  156. Kostas says:

    Ut oh… here we go.

  157. spectra says:

what are the odds that Lester gets yanked before Burnett… oh wait Lester was already “YANKED” in the first inning

  158. Cy Pettitte says:

“must be a big day Pedroia shaved”

    it’s Jesus day.

  159. Chen Meng Wang says:

Hey who is that kid batting for the Sox? I thought you had to be at least 16 to play in the MLB?

  160. IRF says:

    A curveball for strikes?!?

  161. JobaWockeeZ says:

Well it only took the entire year of suck to figure out something needed ot be changed but as with the Jesus situation better late than never.

  162. Tom says:

Someone tell Burnett to knock it off with his Lester impression.

  163. Avi says:

If you assemble any 25 humans on earth , what are the odds they end up as ugly as the red sox?

    • RCA says:

I was just gonna say that. They have some ugly dudes on that team. Pedroia, YOukilis, Gonzalez, Papelbum, Lester.

    • Chen Meng Wang says:

Well, that depends, statistically and philosophicly any thing is possible. But if the Red Sox are already assembled then the odds are astronomical. The number is too small to even think about.

  164. Greg says:

    ITS A MIRACLE!

  165. Roland Deschain says:

AJ’s lasted longer than I thought he would.

  166. Cy Pettitte says:

    hooray for shutdown innings

  167. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

All right AJ, do that 8 more times.

  168. Karl Krawfid says:

OMG no runs allowed. I’m done. I expect 7 innings of 2 run ball now.

  169. JobaWockeeZ says:

Hurry and bring Jesus back please.

  170. Brian says:

What inning wil he melt down? I’m going with the 4th.

  171. mbonzo says:

Watching some video of AJ from his Oakland game, he’s changed quite a few things. He’s slowed down his leg kick and taking a much bigger stride, which is causing him to throw with his whole body and following threw on the pitches, kinda like how Lincecum exaggerates his follow through. He seems to be concentrating on the stride and getting velocity from his hips/legs rather than rushing the stride.

  172. Simon says:

Could you imagine how huge it would be if AJ actually puts it together with these recent changes he made with Rothschild? That would be HUGE, especially if it starts tonight…

  173. Total Dominication says:

Good to see Kay doesn’t like the question either.

  174. Kostas says:

    Lowrie throws like a girl

  175. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

After the first inning, this game is on pace to take 6 hours by the way.

Somewhere, Joe West is choking in rage on a turkey leg.

  176. Greg says:

Not good pitch selection. I get that from Nunez not from Martin.

  177. Tom says:

Did anyone else just notice the girl in the stands with the neon green vest, scarf and sweat shirt on? its 75 degrees out!!!!

  178. Stratman9652 says:

Please at least keep working long AB’s. Don’t bail him out.

  179. Mojo says:

So… the chances of Lester reassembling his spectacular self and shooting 7 more scoreless innings? Lester’s good. I seriously hope that he doesn’t find his groove. Keep on uppin’ that pitch count, damnit.

  180. tom says:

Good fucking thing Jeter was safe there. If they’d let Lester get through the inning on six pitches…

  181. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Yay BABIP!

  182. RCA says:

Karma is a fucking bitch Lester.

  183. Jerome S. says:

About time the Red Sox get fucked like that.

  184. Jetrer says:

    BABIP luck for a change

  185. Tom says:

YES! Its a yankee kind of night!

  186. mbonzo says:

Suck on that babip you Bostonian bitches.

  187. Esteban says:

    Yanks getting the breaks tonight

  188. Cy Pettitte says:

Jesus arrive, we get BABIP luck. I like where this is going.

  189. Karl Krawfid says:

    Thank you Jesus.

  190. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    Ha!

Boston has gotten all the hops in the first two games, nice to see lady luck even things out a bit.

    Let’s get Jeter home!

  191. nedro says:

    How’s THAT for BABIP fucked?!?!?

  192. Sarah says:

Did we make up with BABIP overnight? Is it because Jesus is here?

  193. Mojo says:

Let’s go Tex! DESTROY! DESTROY! MT25 – DESTROY!

  194. IRF says:

I’d like to see Curtis run here

  195. JobaWockeeZ says:

50 bucks this ends in a pop up.

  196. Justin says:

    Another day, another Teix popup

  197. RCA says:

We have the king of the fist pumps and the king of the pop ups.

  198. nedro says:

    MT25 FAIL

  199. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Pop up Tex strikes again

  200. Cy Pettitte says:

MT25 stuck in “pop up” again. was supposed to be set to “mash”

  201. V says:

Surprise, surprise. Mr. Popup/strikeout/groundout is back.

  202. Karl Krawfid says:

    Man Tex sucks.

  203. JobaWockeeZ says:

Well only one Yankee needs to get on for Jesus to come up again.

  204. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

You just know that these runners LOB are gonna come back to haunt us.

    /AJturnsmetothedarkside

  205. Jerome S. says:

    I don’t always get out, but when I do, I hit weak-ass infield fly-balls.

    Or strike out.

  206. nedro says:

    MT25 FAIL
    even Jesus can’t save him.

  207. Mojo says:

FUCK TEX! He’s a lefty! A lefty, I tell you! You can’t pop up (in foul territory nonetheless) against a LEFTY!

  208. Roland Deschain says:

Two strikeouts and a weak pop up with RISP. We’re getting to Lester, even getting lucky and still can’t do a damn thing.

  209. Monteroisdinero says:

Oh tex-just take pitches to get the pitch count up.

Pitch count up>>>>>>Tex pops it up

  210. nedro says:

Really liking that Lester pitch count.

  211. Mojo says:

So, when are we going to read about Teixera getting benched for three days and working with K. Long? Seriously, this shit if officially old. Granderson putting together an MVP-caliber season and he’s mashing what he could not formerly mash. Where’s my goddamn K. Long intervention. We NEED Tex for the playoffs. We NEED him to be his All-Star self.

    • mbonzo says:

Tex has 35 homeruns, you’ll forget all about the pop-up when he hits his next bomb.

      • Mojo says:

Nah, not really. The whole 3 outcome scenario has now become a 4 outcome poopfest: Groundout, Popout, Strikeout, Walk. I’ll take 20 less homers if he starts hitting .310ish. When you pop-out as often as Tex, isn’t the solution relatively simple? He needs Kevin Long more than anyone else on this team. Everyone speaks wonders about him… I just want to know if he’s been working or has worked with him already. Obvious problem with Tex, here’s hoping that he fixes it.

  212. nedro says:

Wow. Ortiz hit that hard. Bad sign?

  213. bill says:

There goes the no hit bid!

  214. Chen Meng Wang says:

…I cannot believe Crawford has a .288OBP. What happened to him?

  215. Karl Krawfid says:

    A lot of fastballs man.

    I don’t like this.

  216. U Thant says:

I love Jed Lowrie’s official Shane Victorino Little League helmet.

  217. Matt says:

There is very little reason to swing at a first pitch off of Lester right now, especially with nobody on base. What did the brilliant hitters just do in that last inning? Exactly that.

It’s unbelievable how bad the approach is from some of these guys. Lester has overpowering stuff, so you may not hit even a hitter’s pitch. His pitch count is elevated, so you can knock him out of the game if you keep working him. Nobody is on base, so swinging at the first pitch might not be that valuable even if you get a single.

Lester did not “pound the zone” in that inning, which would have forced the hitters to be more aggressive. Rather, he took advantage of the over aggressiveness of guys like Martin and Nunez, and let them get themselves out.

44 pitches in the first, and they were lucky that wasn’t just a 6 pitch inning there. Put aside the selfishness and take some pitches.

    • Jerome S. says:

It’s almost like good pitchers have the ability to rebound and progress as the game goes on…

      • Matt says:

Right, because Lester made some really tough pitches in that inning? Nunez popping out on a pitch high and away, and Teix getting himself out swinging at a cutter 4 inches off the plate inside?

Don’t make up the narrative to suit the outcome. If a guy gets outs, it’s not always because he’s pitching well. The hitters can help him out by swinging at bad pitches that he didn’t set up that well, or he can get lucky on balls in play.

        • Jerome S. says:

First of all, Nunez sucks overall. Never expect anything great from him.

Second, pitching is… deceiving. Teixeira swings at pitches like that because he thinks he can hit them, and quite often he does. Then it cuts away last second… because it’s a cutter.

Lester’s a good pitcher, the Yankees are faring pretty well against him. Relax.

          • Matt says:

Nunez does not suck. He likely isn’t sharp with his swing because of the lack of plate appearances recently.

That at bat had very little to do with whether Nunez is a good or a bad hitter. It was all about the lack of an approach in that situation. He swung at a bad pitch in a spot in which he needed to take 1 or 2 pitches to work the pitch count, and got himself out.

It doesn’t matter who did that. It could have been the April version of Jeter grounding out on the first pitch of the at bat. Either way, it’s something that cannot happen. It’s either a total mental lapse by the hitter, or a selfish attempt to get a base hit at the expense of the team’s overall game plan.

            • Jerome S. says:

That has everything to do with Nunez. He has no plate discipline, hence why he gets minimal PA’s. For something that “Cannot happen” it seems to happen an awful lot, and no one cares and it doesn’t matter.

              • Matt says:

It does matter, and a lot of people care.

Nunez may have bought Lester an extra inning in the game. I’m sure that other guys were ticked off to see an at bat like that after all of their hard work in the first inning.

An inning of Lester instead of an inning of a middle relief pitcher can greatly change the flow of a close game like we have tonight.

You are just trying to argue for the sake of arguing. Give it a rest. You know it was a terrible at bat, and one that a Major League hitter has to not have in that situation.

                • Jerome S. says:

                  It’s almost like Nunez is a below-average hitter…

                  • Matt says:

Is that all that you have? You keep repeating that, and I keep telling you that it doesn’t change the argument one bit.

Standing there with the bat on your shoulder for at least one pitch in that at bat is not something that only the good hitters can do.

I’m not saying to have him stand there and take 2 pitches right down the middle. Nunez went up there in a situation that called for patience, and instead exhibited total aggressiveness. The mental aspect of the game is something that even a bad player can be aware of in that situation.

                    • Jerome S. says:

Just because I keep repeating doesn’t make it wrong. I keep saying it because you don’t get it: Bad hitters will have bad at-bats, regardless of situation.

                    • Matt says:

And he could have still had a bad at bat, while making Lester throw 3 or 4 pitches.

Standing there and not swinging the bat is not dependent on skill as a hitter. It’s dependent on situational awareness, which Nunez clearly lacks.

            • Jetrer says:

I think the team’s overall game plan first and foremost would be to score runs, which is usually accomplished best by being selectively aggressive, not by being passive for the sake of being passive. I agree Nunez should not have swung at that pitch, but that is the kind of hitter he is. It has nothing to do with mental lapses and everything to do with Nunez being a hacker.

              • Matt says:

Obviously that is the game plan, but you are facing a tough pitcher like Lester.

You can’t go up there with the mindset of “I will swing at the first pitch I see, and try to hit it hard somewhere.” The first pitch that you see may be a perfect pitch on the corner, with which you can’t do anything.

Selective patience, yes, but what the hitters in that inning exhibited was not that. They swung at tough pitches to hit and helped him out. If Nunez is swinging at the first pitch, it better be near the middle of the plate in that situation.

                • Jetrer says:

I’m not saying swing at the first pitch or first strike you see. I’m saying swing at the first strike you think you can handle well, which I thought everyone but Nunez did.

    • mbonzo says:

Why do you think you know how to work a pitcher’s count better than the best team in baseball does?
For god sakes, the Yankees forced Lester to throw 56 pitches in 2 innings and you’re complaining about how they can’t work a count.

      • Matt says:

That is not what I said. Read the post again.

Also, 44 of those 56 pitches came in the first inning. They need to be more patient in that situation. Nunez went up there and popped out on the first pitch, as the number 9 hitter, with nobody on base, and it wasn’t a strike. He has to know the situation there and approach the at bat differently than he would with runners on base.

Nunez was the key failure in that inning, and everyone knows it. He lost track of the situation and bailed the opposing pitcher out.

If Lester throws 44 pitches in the first inning, and 12 pitches in every other inning, he could end up pitching 6 innings. You have to finish the job, and at bats like Nunez’s there cannot happen.

        • Jerome S. says:

Again, Nunez blows. His blowing is not out-of-the-ordinary. Why are you complaining?

          • Matt says:

Again, it has nothing to do with the ability of a hitter. Standing there with the bat on your shoulder is a skill that does not depend on your ability to make solid contact. Nunez had a terrible at bat, and one that had everything to do with a total lack of mental awareness.

    • Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

What did you think of the first inning?

      • Matt says:

That is not relevant to this discussion.

Once you made him throw 44 pitches in that inning, you have to make sure that you continue to work him. The first inning is over and done. You have to keep putting up good at bats, and Nunez went up there and bailed him out big time.

        • Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Nunez will do that. That’s the kind of hitter he is, and that approach has worked for him. Also, of course there would be a dropoff in pitches after a 44 pitch inning.

    • Jetrer says:

“Lester did not “pound the zone”

the only one of the pitches that was swung at that was not in the strike zone was the last pitch to Tex
Taking strikes just in hopes of wearing out Lester is most likely just going to result in a lot of bad hitter’s counts and bad results
The only AB I would really complain about that inning was Nunez, swinging at a first pitch that wasn’t a great pitch to hit, but he’s a #9 hitter for a reason

      • Matt says:

Nunez’s pitch was not a strike either.

You’re missing the point of the term “pound the zone” though.

When someone says that a pitcher is “pounding the strike zone,” that usually means that they are going right after hitters and laying pitches in there early in the count. Lester has been nibbling around the corners all night. He is throwing strikes, but not hittable ones. In that instance, you need to be patient, because if you swing at pitcher’s pitches you will get yourself out.

        • Jetrer says:

“Nunez’s pitch was not a strike either.”
It looked like a borderline strike to me, and Pitch f/x agrees.
          http://www.brooksbaseball.net/.....type=3.gif
As far as where his pitches were overall that inning, almost none of the strikes he threw were on the corners. Of course he’s not going to lay pitches right down the middle, but he was aggressively attacking the zone, as you would expect from a very good pitcher who threw a ton of pitches the inning before.
          http://www.brooksbaseball.net/.....type=3.gif

          • Matt says:

Brooks Baseball is a nice tool, but it is misleading because it doesn’t show how much room it is giving for borderline pitches in the box.

On Gameday, you can see that the pitch was only a generous strike at best. Not a pitch to be aggressive on early in the count.

            • Jetrer says:

I never disagreed with that. I said it was borderline and not a good pitch to hit. But Nunez’ AB was the only AB I had a problem with that inning.

  218. Cy Pettitte says:

    holy lol at Papi’s slide

  219. IRF says:

    Ok that was pretty funny

  222. Bob Stone says:

I’m holding my breath on AJ. Jesus has had an inauspcious debut . . . so far. I like the Lester pitch count.

That was some funny base-running from Big Papi.

  223. Karl Krawfid says:

    1 hour so far.

    2nd inning.

  224. Roland Deschain says:

At least he’s missing down. Getting behind Ortiz and now Reddick but he’s missing down. Good sign.

  225. Cy Pettitte says:

2 shutout innings is much more than I expected. for that, I am grateful.

  226. Esteban says:

    912!912!

  227. Monteroisdinero says:

So do we want to try to take a strike to work the pitch count or unload on the first pitch of each ab thinking Lester will groove the first pitch to try to get ahead and keep the pitch count down?

    strategy thoughts?

  228. Jerome S. says:

I’ve seen this movie before. AJ gives you several shut-out innings, right to the point where start to get a little hope, and BAM, 6-run meltdown.

I want to believe, but I really can’t.

    • Guns of the Navarone says:

There’s no reason to believe. He looks like shit tonight no matter what the results have been over 2 innings. He has no idea where his fastball is going. It’s only a matter of time…

  258. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

  259. Greg says:

AJ is locating his curveball better than what I have seen lately.

  260. Mr. Wallace says:

Wow. AJ is somewhat decent tonight… So far

  261. mbonzo says:

AJ’s stride looks like CC’s. I wonder if they’re working together. Watch one of AJ’s highlites in August and you’ll see him going about twice the speed and 80% of his current stride.

  262. RCA says:

Who is this imposter and ask him where is the real AJ Burnett.

  263. jay says:

that was a nasty, nasty curve…

  264. nedro says:

Trying not to get excited. It’s only the 3rd.

  265. Karl Krawfid says:

    Larry Rothschild folks.

  266. Esteban says:

Well the game has been tedious but at least AJ is doing well so far.

  267. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    One inning at a time.

    Now let’s get some runs.

  268. Greg says:

We might be in the prescence of a miracle.

  269. Roland Deschain says:

3 more innings like that and he will keep his rotation spot. Since Phil struggled all AJ needed was a good outing and so far he’s done it.

    • Jetrer says:

Girardi said he wasn’t going to base the decision on just one start though, so not necessarily

      • Chen Meng Wang says:

He did say that AJ could save his spot with a good outing though. At least I think he did. Plus his love for AJ proves that if AJ does well he’ll get another chance.

I’m used to having a fantastic catcher behind the plate for the last 15ish years. May Jesus mash and bash for the next 20 years and play superior defense too!

  272. your mom says:

I want to see a “cheapie” HR by Jeter.

  273. swishers fauxhawk says:

Ah yes, the magically expanding strikezone.

  274. Mojo says:

    So what’s Lester’s pitch limit? 115-120? 2-4 innings left… Argh

  275. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

How come Derek’s not running? Saltalamacia is behind the plate.

  276. Sarah says:

Lester at 91 pitches. Good job!

  277. Kostas says:

Granderson just looked stupid in that AB…. #fail

  278. swishers fauxhawk says:

I’m wicked psyched to be heeh. You guys ready to rent some cahs?

  279. Greg says:

He’s doing exactly what CC did in game 1. High pitch count, a bunch of hits, but few runs.

  280. Cy Pettitte says:

92 pitches through 4 and only 1 run. that’s amazing.

  281. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Here it comes…

  282. Mike Axisa says:

I thought that was ten rows back off the bat.

  283. Chen Meng Wang says:

    …AJ…please I’m having a really good day…please don’t ruin it…

  284. nedro says:

    Done. Pull him now!

  285. Mojo says:

Beginning of the end for AJ Burnett.

  286. blazing fastball says:

how predictable can you get AJ? the usual 4th inning collapse

  287. Manny says:

    here we go…

  288. Mykey says:

    Cue meltdown?

  289. Karl Krawfid says:

    Fun while it lasted.

  290. Monteroisdinero says:

Risp failure + implosion factor=weakening of stomach lining and rise in blood pressure

  291. Mojo says:

So who’s going to hit the HR? Ortiz? I’ll get flashy and put my money on Crawford.

  292. Esteban says:

Oh well, those 3 innings were nice.

  293. swishers fauxhawk says:

Even a blind monkey could have seen that coming.

  294. Greg says:

    Not yet implosion. CLose

  295. Cy Pettitte says:

    /meltdown

knew it was too good to be true.

  296. pop up teixeira says:

    and here we go…

  297. Bob Stone says:

We all knew it was too good to last.

  298. Chen Meng Wang says:

FUCK WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE THE RATFACE FUCK. WHY?!

  299. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Saw that from a mile away…

  300. Kostas says:

and now the meltdown begins. strike up the bullpen.

  301. Monteroisdinero says:

    Fall behind in the count

    fall behind in the game

  302. Jetrer says:

well, 3 good innings far exceeded my expectations anyways

  303. Greg says:

Not yet. Only when he gives up 5 or more.

  304. mbonzo says:

So apparently when AJ gives up runs he’s imploding.

  305. nedro says:

Just when he delivered that, I’m thinking, his mechanics are falling apart again, he’s letting his hands drop behind him, and BOOM. Thanks AJ, Thanks a lot.

  306. your mom says:

    Fuck AJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  307. RayFo says:

If you are going to give up the lead it’s always best to give it up to the most detestable of the Red Sox. I salute you AJ.

  308. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

So yeah, let’s just go ahead and take AJ out of the rotation.

  309. Matt says:

You can’t expect to win a game in Fenway Park scoring only 1 run against this lineup?

With Lester’s pitch count elevated, I’d hope that they’d be able to score some more runs before this one is over. If not, it’s hard to blame AJ unless he gives up a few more.

  310. ItsATarp says:

2 Runs whatever. Comeon AJ gives us 3 more shut out innings and we’ll forgive you

  311. Chen Meng Wang says:

Do you guys think that maybe, just maybe, that AJ can put that homer behind him and give us another strong inning or two?

  312. Sheepmeister says:

My issue with all of this is it seems like Girardi is surprised every time this happens, and by the time they get someone ready in the bullpen, its 6 runs. This is why AJ is no better than a long man out of the bullpen anymore.

  313. Monteroisdinero says:

Ortiz putting on a show for little leaguers everywhere running down the line.

  314. Kostas says:

So that is a lot of money to pay a pitching coach (forget the money being wasted on AJ) to get three innings of what should be normal performance from a pitcher.

  315. blazing fastball says:

What’s with this “his stuff is too good…” bullshit

    • AaronGuielWithASmile says:

This has always been one of my biggest pet peeves.

I don’t care how hard your fastball goes or how sharp your curve breaks. If you have no idea where your pitches are going, they aren’t great.

  316. mbonzo says:

AJ still looks great. He hit the corner perfectly with the first strike to Pedroia but clearly missed his spot with the next pitch. Seriously loving this start.

  317. JB says:

    and no outs..

  318. Mojo says:

So what’s this going to come down to? AJ imploding or RISPFail? Right now I’d say RISPFail, hoping that AJ can maybe muster up another 3 innings of one run ball.

  319. Karl Krawfid says:

    Maybe no meltdown.

  320. Monteroisdinero says:

Crawford sucks when there are more than 5,000 people at a game.

  321. your mom says:

Carl Crawford doing his best to make AJ look good.

  322. Karl Krawfid says:

    Shocking.

  323. Chen Meng Wang says:

shocked…he rebounded and got three straight outs.

  324. alexh says:

whats worse: AJ stinking it up the rest of september or him having 1 or 2 “quality” outings to get him into the playoff rotation???

  325. Greg says:

That’s why I told you to wait on calling it an implosion.

    • mbonzo says:

He maintained his delivery and is much more consistent with his control today. Even if the Pedroia AB was his worst so far, he still hit 3 of his spots, he didn’t get the call on the 2 pitches down in the zone. Going 3-0 when you don’t get calls is different from when AJ typically walks a batter.

  326. RCA says:

Gotta give credit to AJ for recovering after that HR by CUNT sucker PEDroia. Now can we get some runs please?

  327. ItsATarp says:

How bout we give this motherfucker some run support?

  328. Bob Stone says:

O don’t know why because experience tells me otherwise. But I was really hoping for a 1-0 Yankees victory tonight.

  329. nedro says:

Hang on. Gotta go pour a shot for this…

  330. Karl Krawfid says:

Cervelli acting like a D-Bag on the bench.

  331. Cy Pettitte says:

they better make this Lester’s last inning.

  332. Monteroisdinero says:

And Peedy gets the W for Lestuh. So gritty.

  333. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

AJ pitches well, bats go to sleep. Bleh.

  334. Matt says:

The difference in this game right now is the inability to get a runner in from 3rd base with less than 2 outs. Always seems to end up that way at some point in the game.

  335. alexh says:

    Robbie Cano.
    Red Sox Killer.

  336. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Scorched.

  337. Cy Pettitte says:

Robbie is a doubles machine. that was some piece of hitting.

  338. Bob Stone says:

Crawford has been a horrible Red Sox. The local Boston sports talk radio stations are all abuzz with talk of trading him.

He was excellent in Tampa Bay but I thought 7 years $142 million was way too long and way too much money.

His deal was almost as bad, it actually could be worse, than the J.D. Drew deal. Time will tell.

  339. teddy says:

    nice cano

  340. Esteban says:

Cano loves hitting against the Red Sox.

  341. Roland Deschain says:

That ball was crushed. Now get that runner home and make this Lester’s last inning.

  342. RCA says:

And that is the BEST 2B in BASEBALL with the sweetest swing crushing Lestah!!

  343. Jetrer says:

    Red Sox Killer
    (aka – the anti-Tex)

  344. Mike Axisa says:

That’s way gone in Yankee Stadium.

  345. Mojo says:

Fuck it. I’m looking away whenever Teixera’s at bat now. Actually, I’m looking away for the entire inning. Maybe I’m bad luck. Maybe he can’t handle my intense judgement and unsettling expectations. You win, MT25. My attention is officially diverted from your bat.

  346. Karl Krawfid says:

    Cano is a man.

  347. mbonzo says:

Takes high? The ball was in the dirt Michael.

  348. Monteroisdinero says:

Still a battle of grit vs greet. Work that pitch count Swish

  349. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Please, for the love of God don’t bunt

  350. Tom Zig says:

    Patience please

  351. boogie down says:

    WHAT THE FUCK?!

  352. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

  353. mbonzo says:

    UHM Swisher. wtf?

  354. Jetrer says:

    WTF is that

  355. Mike Axisa says:

What the fucking fuck was that?

  356. Roland Deschain says:

Great strategy. Get that run home so bunt him over to 3rd.

  357. swishers fauxhawk says:

    That. Was. Fucking. Stupid.

  358. Karl Krawfid says:

    Why Swish.

    WHY

  359. alexh says:

    Michael Kay… speaking the truth

  360. Cy Pettitte says:

WHY ARE YOU BUNTING? WHY WHY WHY?

  361. Pat D says:

    What the flying fuck?

  362. Chen Meng Wang says:

WHY THE FUCK WHERE YOU BUNTING SWISHER?!?!?!? I’M GOING TO KILL YOU GIRARDI!

  363. Greg says:

I think Swisher did that on his own.

  364. Kostas says:

Jesus Christ… this fucking team has its head up it ass

  365. RCA says:

That is the DUMBEST SHIT I HAVE EVER SEEN!!! What the FUCK WAS THAT. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? That is not Girardi’s fault.

  366. teddy says:

typical yankee baseball against the redsox, stupid

  367. JobaWockeeZ says:

If we’ve learned anything the past 2 games is that Pedroia loves high fastballs. Why you fucking give him one is beyond me.

  368. The Big City of Dreams says:

    This is my house

    /deionsanders’d

  369. Monteroisdinero says:

    Beyond idiocy

  370. #24!!!! says:

Kay: angry with a bunt. WHAT!

  371. Cy Pettitte says:

good job by the Cap’n calling him out.

  372. Roland Deschain says:

Swisher’s a bumbling fool. He’s an idiot. How can a major league player not know how many outs there are?

  373. Mojo says:

WHAT THE FU&%?!?!?!?! A SAC BUNT WITH ONE OUT?!?!?! HOLY SH#T! Someone blow my brains out. I’m done.

  374. Jetrer says:

Even Jeter thought that was a dumb bunt
    that’s saying something

  375. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

This is how I feel right now:

    http://i565.photobucket.com/al.....1299617938

  376. Karl Krawfid says:

Jeter should be the last one talking to Swish though.

  377. swishers fauxhawk says:

Swisher thought Cano was the leadoff hitter. Inexcusable.

  378. Mykey says:

    No excuse for that. None.

  379. tom says:

He had to have lost track of outs. There’s no other explanation

  380. Mike Axisa says:

If he forgot how many outs there were, just take him out of the game. That’s inexcusable.

  381. boogie down says:

Wow, I really think he forgot how many outs there were.

  382. alexh says:

way to give lester another inning swish

  383. trueblue says:

    Girardi is a fool

  384. RCA says:

I can’t believe what I just fucking saw. This fool thought there was no body out. DID YOU SEE TEX DO HIS USUAL NOTHING AT BAT?!?! Unbelievable, we gave them a god damn out.

  385. nedro says:

I’m thinking, he thought there was no outs, or one?

    #brain fart

  386. Roland Deschain says:

But this was all brought about by the Girardi philosophy of bunting with your best and hottest hitters. Girardi needs to dictate what Francona does, DON’T BUNT EVER! How many times have the Sox bunted this series and played for one run? They don’t do that because Francona’s not an idiot.

  387. JobaWockeeZ says:

Stop rolling over for the fucking Sox please.

  388. mbonzo says:

Swisher needs Jesus to save him.

  389. alexh says:

    here comes “Monty”
    -Joe G

  390. Ivan says:

    Lets go Jesus…

  391. swishers fauxhawk says:

Let’s go Jesus. Yankee Classic time.

  392. Cy Pettitte says:

come on Jesus, fuck shit up.

  393. Esteban says:

Time to work your magic Heyzeus. Turn water into wine, etc.

  394. Monteroisdinero says:

    110 pitches through 4 &2/3 and 1 run.

  395. blazing fastball says:

    will Jeus save Swish?

  396. Mojo says:

Goddamnit. Stop putting Jesus up with RISP. Too much to handle!

  397. your mom says:

Okay Jesus. 3rd times a charm,

  398. Chen Meng Wang says:

If we don’t score this inning/lose this game I blame it on nick swisher bunting.

  399. Sarah says:

Poor Jesus. Every time he’s up, runners on and 2 outs.

  400. Kostas says:

    Montero is just overmatched….AAAA

  401. Pat D says:

You know what? I’m done here for tonight. I really can’t stand this site during games like this because everyone loses their fucking minds. I do that enough on my own when I watch these games, so I don’t need the added aggravation.

See everyone tomorrow when things are back to normal.

    • Bob Stone says:

      HeyPat,

      Don’t leave.

There are still plenty of us here with some degree of sanity. I think the Yanks have a good chance. Lester is almost done on pitch count and AJ looks way better than usual. And . . . the Yankees bullpen is far superior to that of the BoSox.

The Yanks can win this one.

      Bob

    • RCA says:

I love this site during games because it shows how other people are even more angry and reactionary than I am.

  402. alexh says:

Jesus savior commenter should be banned

  403. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

That inning was full of fail.

  404. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Good thing we bunted.

  405. teddy says:

i like to thank swisher for being pathetic tonight

  406. Mojo says:

Ok, I’ll be honest. I’m very much frustrated.

  407. RCA says:

Well Jesus, this ain’t AAA and Jon Lester ain’t no Jo-Jo Reyes. Welcome to the Big Leagues Rookie.

  408. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

This game is raising my blood pressure

  409. your mom says:

Okay Jesus. 3rd times a charm.

  410. Karl Krawfid says:

    This sucks man :(

  411. Greg says:

Actually Nick Swisher has failed in the teo golden opportunities that the Yankees have had. He struck out with 2nd and 3rd and no out in the first.

  412. Monteroisdinero says:

risp failure + brain failure + AJ = Gritty win if we get it

  413. ItsATarp says:

Well i’ll be honest here and say Jesus has hurt us this so far since i think he’s been up with RISP every AB thus far.

  414. blazing fastball says:

Nick was definitely a dick this time

  415. nedro says:

Strikeout, Flyout, Groundout. What a fucking scrub.

  416. RayFo says:

    RISP God’s hate Jesus.

  417. alexh says:

Montero is below replacement level now

  418. Roland Deschain says:

Girardi has instilled a philosophy in these guys that bunting is ok for guys like Swisher and Jeter and Granderson even if they’re our hottest hitters. That’s the problem here. How many times would Ortiz be bunting there? None, because Francona has the exact opposite philosophy. Girardi needs to change this.

    • pat says:

Yes it’s fucking Girardi’s fault Swisher forgot how many outs there were.

      • trueblue says:

After the bluff on teh 1st pitch THompson and Girardi should have made it clear the situation. That was inexcusable by all parties

      • Roland Deschain says:

Not saying that Swisher was stupid there. I’m saying the whole bunting philosophy is stupid. Swisher shouldn’t be thinking bunt there regardless of how many outs there are.

    • AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Blaming Girardi for that is a huge, huge, huge stretch.

Comparing Ortiz to Swisher is a straw man as well. A-Rod would be a more fair comparison (and you never see A-Rod bunt.)

    • Jetrer says:

Jeter and Granderson both were bunters long before being managed by Girardi
Swisher is just a fucking moron

  419. teddy says:

montero 3 at bats have been solid

  420. alexh says:

    Nova 2011 > Hughes 2010?

  421. Esteban says:

Less RISPfail would be nice, eventually.

  422. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Nova should be in the ROY discussion, sure, but it would be kind of a joke if he won it.

  423. pat says:

Lol, fucking Giants can’t even fall on a fumble right.

  424. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

They don’t even mention Ackley. Haha.

  425. Oh fuck that would’ve been so awesome.

  426. Cy Pettitte says:

oh come, give Teix that one

  427. JobaWockeeZ says:

That was out, fuck the Boston paid umps.

  428. Chen Meng Wang says:

    Terrible call ump.

  429. alexh says:

OH WHAT A PLAY BY TEIXIERA!

Cano had it all the way

  430. Esteban says:

    Oh AJ, jumped too high.

  431. mbonzo says:

    AJ imploding at first base.

  432. Sheepmeister says:

This game is starting to remind me of the White Sox game earlier this year when AJ twirled his semi-annual gem and they lost.

  433. swishers fauxhawk says:

Oh for Christ sakes, watch where you’re jumping AJ.

  434. Esteban says:

And yeah, Teix went too far

  435. Tom says:

Anyone else notice that AJ has a little more twist in his delivery with no men on base as compared to the 1st and 2nd?

  436. Karl Krawfid says:

    Damn AJ throw was high.

  437. whozat says:

It’s amazing how people re-cast reality to be what they want it to be. Suzyn Waldman just said that Hughes lost velo last night as the game went on — despite us knowing that this is false.

This, of course, is reason to put him in the bullpen, because we SAWWWWW how GOOD he could be there, and yeah whatever AJ has been a fucking wreck for months and months, but we KNOW Hughes can be so good in the bullpen!!!!!!! He HAS to go there!!!!

Good god, I hope they get a new broadcast team next year…

  438. mbonzo says:

That was a strike for Montero

  439. Sheepmeister says:

so which game finished first, this one, or the angels mariners one?

  440. Greg says:

AJ to this point has pitched much better than Hughes had.

  441. Esteban says:

5IP 2 R is better than anybody expected right?

  442. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

AJ pitched better through 5 then Lester did.

  443. flamingo says:

Heh. Never would have though AJ would last longer than Lester would.

(True, he might not come out again, but knowing Girardi, he will.)

  444. CBean says:

so just got home but AJ, surprisingly good so far? despite the losing?

  445. RCA says:

I’m a fan of Aceves, but he throws too many strikes. Time to take advantage of that.

  446. mbonzo says:

    Is Martin wearing bowling shoes?

  447. Roland Deschain says:

Now bunt that runner over to 2nd then bunt him to 3rd. It’s the Girardi way.

  448. Tom says:

If there’s a just baseball God, he’ll let the Yanks tee-off on Aceves.

  449. Nefarious says:

    That’s why you bunt

  450. Cy Pettitte says:

    god damn you Nunie

  451. RCA says:

That’s why Girardi bunts, I don’t wanna hear anyone get mad at Girardi for not bunting there.

  452. Jason says:

WHY THE FUCK R U NOT BUNTING!!

  453. Fuckity fuck fucking shit.

  454. Mojo says:

haha. I totally saw that coming.

  455. Tom says:

I can’t believe lester threw 50 pitches in the 1st and is in line for the win. This is unreal. They need alex back big time.

  456. RCA says:

That’s why Girardi bunts, I don’t wanna read anyone get mad at Girardi for not bunting there.

  457. your mom says:

    Fuck nunez

  458. mbonzo says:

The only time they don’t bunt they gidp. It wasn’t the right thing to do there anyway, what are the chances Nunez was gonna get doubles up.

  459. flamingo says:

This game has a lot of weird repeats: Jeter coming up, no one on, two outs, Montero coming up, runners in scoring position on, two outs…

  460. pop up teixeira says:

Now that Lester is finally gone, Montero will do something positive.

  461. mbonzo says:

Feeling a homerun from the Grandyman here.

  462. Tom says:

What this team needs is not so much Montero as a healthy and hitting ARod. His very presence in the lineup changes the correlation of forces. Have they said anything about when he’s due back?

  463. swishers fauxhawk says:

    “Fallacy of the predetermined outcome”

    DRINK!

  464. Mojo says:

Nice to see that Jeter continues to show up. Now if only someone would wake up Tex…

  465. RCA says:

    Please Jeter steal.

  466. Tom says:

This is where Grandy can help out his MVP chances

  467. your mom says:

    swing away, swing away!!!!!

  468. Nefarious says:

    Let’s go Tex

  469. IRF says:

Alright Tex. Time to get up

  470. Monteroisdinero says:

    The crowd is comatose.

  471. Mojo says:

    Not watching.

  472. RCA says:

Return of the King…of the POP UPS!!

  473. Ivan says:

    Hit a Homer Tex.

  474. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    That sounded like it hurt

  475. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Of course…

  476. The Big City of Dreams says:

    Motherfucker

  477. Roland Deschain says:

That bastard did that on purpose. That fucking traitor.

  478. boogie down says:

    Oh boy.

  479. Cy Pettitte says:

    holy ow. fucking Red Sox.

    Make the pay Robbie.

  480. Kostas says:

Fucking bullshit… someone for the Red Sox better get hit…

  481. mbonzo says:

    THIS IS NOT GOOD

  482. Tom Zig says:

at least it was behind the knee

  483. Chen Meng Wang says:

I was just about to say “Anything but a pop up tex,” so I guess I have to take that.

  484. pat says:

Hahah not that often you se a #2 hitter IBB’d to face the #3.

  485. King of the Troglodytes says:

Brilliant move by the Sox. I’d rather pitch to Private Pop-up myself.

  486. RCA says:

Hit him in the perfect spot. Right on the knee.

  487. Tom says:

Guess its better than a pop up to 1st.

  488. pop up teixeira says:

The right man in the right situation. Come on Cano!

  489. IRF says:

    He’s still faster than Posada

  490. RayFo says:

Exactly the guy I want for this at bat. Come on Cano.

  491. Monteroisdinero says:

    Tex’s knee popped it up!

  492. Esteban says:

Best guy to have up there now.

  493. mbonzo says:

    Comeon Cano, you got this.

  494. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Cano’s been nuts with the bases loaded this year

  495. Chen Meng Wang says:

Come on Robbie, do something big.

  496. Tom says:

JESUS .439???? with the bases loaded!?!?

  497. nedro says:

Cmon, robbie, don’t make Tex run too hard, put one out.

  498. mbonzo says:

    Babip strikes again.

  499. Cy Pettitte says:

    fucking hell, this is ridiculous

  500. ItsATarp says:

Why can’t our hard hit balls find a goddamn hole to go through

  501. Chen Meng Wang says:

    RISPBABIPFAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!

  502. Greg says:

BaBip again. Main difference between Yankees and Red Sox this season

  503. Nefarious says:

    Cursed BABIP gods

  504. flamingo says:

    AWWWW

  505. Karl Krawfid says:

    We are being trolled today.

  506. Sarah says:

What happened to BABIP? I thought we were ok again…

  507. teddy says:

    unbelieveable, crushed that pitched .

  508. Roland Deschain says:

And more runners left in RISP. That’s what will lose us this ballgame, not AJ.

  509. your mom says:

Fuck this offense! Piece of shit!

  510. Cuso says:

    Coxsackie!!

  511. Roland Deschain says:

Have someone warming up now Girardi. And have a tight leash for jesus’s sake. Don’t let it get to 5-1 before bringing in Wade.

  512. Matt says:

How can anyone watching these games legitimately think that Boston is better?

I don’t think I have ever seen a team get as many breaks as they’ve gotten in these recent series against the Yankees. The Yankees have outplayed them almost every night on the field, yet are getting the most horrible luck you could imagine.

    • Matt says:

Remember the Sunday night game a few weeks ago? 2 runners on, 1 out vs Beckett, and Swisher crushes the ball 415 feet into the triangle in right center for a flyout. The ridiculousness of these games is almost unfathomable.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

Because there’s a thing called statistics which is better than the memory failing and biased influenced eyes of humanity.

      • Matt says:

Except the statistics show that the Yankees are the better team as well.

The only thing that most people base their analysis on is the fact that the Red Sox are 11-3 against the Yankees. Watching these games, it’s obvious that it’s hard to put much stock into that record unless you see how close these games have been.

        • JobaWockeeZ says:

No, it has them dead even. Except one team is playing dead when they face the other team so I’m inclined to not call them the better team when they are equally in the metrics.

  513. Greg says:

Its a carbon copy of game 1 only its reversed to the Sox.

  514. Chen Meng Wang says:

Girardi, really, sixth inning, 3-4-5 up, your bringing AJ back out…I’m really fuckin nervous about this.

  515. Sheepmeister says:

at least montero can’t come up to bat next inning with 2 outs AND runners on base.

  516. Mojo says:

So much for not watching. At least he got on base though… Baby steps, baby steps. Will A-Rod answer the RISPFailures?

  517. Tom says:

Much much more rotation in his body…..That front leg is crossing the rubber again. NOT GOOD AJ

  518. Kibbitty says:

Pedroia looks even creepier without the beard.

  519. JobaWockeeZ says:

I wonder how long the “give Pedroia as many high pitches until we lose” game lasts.

  520. Zach says:

THis loss will NOT be on AJ. Our offense and manager failed.

  521. Roland Deschain says:

Throwing high fastballs to a high fastball hitter, same thing Hughes did. Now throw one in Big Papi’s wheelhouse.

  522. Cy Pettitte says:

stop being so complimentary to PEDroia, fucking hell, am i watching the NESN broadcast by accident?

  523. your mom says:

Don’t tell me we’re going to lose this game single handedly to this midget bearded gnome.

  524. Tom says:

    GOD DAMMIT!!!!!

  525. Roland Deschain says:

BULLSHIT CALL! THAT WAS A STRIKE! AJ’s done his job.

  526. Cy Pettitte says:

    wow AJ getting squeezed, ridiculous

  527. Ivan says:

Get the fuck outta here!!!!!! That is Bull shit.

  528. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Fucking ump

  529. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    Wowwww AJ got squeezed there

Good effort. He should still be pulled from the rotation, but it was a good effort.

  530. Karl Krawfid says:

    Bullshit man.

  531. Matt says:

Lester has gotten that pitch to opposite handed batters ALL NIGHT. And the Fenway Squeeze is on…

  532. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Meh, that was outside.

  533. RCA says:

You know what…5 1/3 IP, 2 ER. I would’ve gave my left kidney for that start by AJ. For the first time in forever, I cannot blame him for the game he pitches.

  534. Javkei Igavano says:

    Agree with AJ. Bullshit.

  535. your mom says:

    Boone = white flag

  536. mbonzo says:

    Boone Logan again. WTF man?

  537. ItsATarp says:

Hughes when he pitched worse had a longer lease than this BS.

  538. Ivan says:

Alright Logan, you either gonna be water or Gasoline.

  539. Esteban says:

    LOL Crawford.

  540. Roland Deschain says:

Hey, somebody finally figured out that Crawford can’t catch up to that fastball. Only took 2 and a half games.

  541. RainDelayed says:

If my computations are correct Red Sox hitters’ babip is .250 while Yanks’ is over .400.
It’s not BABIP luck. Maybe LOB% luck rather?

  542. Zooboy says:

Is Proctor on the roster now? He should be good for what, 100, 125 pitches tonight?

  543. IRF says:

That’s the Carl Crawford 28 other teams have faced

  544. RCA says:

That was great pitching by Logan. Too bad he couldn’t do that yesterday, but Crawford is NOT Ellsbury. Man has he been a bust, is his OBP still under .300?

  545. your mom says:

Crawford and Lackey’s contract >>>> LOL

Arod and AJ’s contract >>>> fuck us

  546. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Grandy Man!!!

  547. Yankeefan91 Arod Fan says:

    grandersonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

  548. Roland Deschain says:

Granderson’s not a good defender, UZR says so.

  549. RCA says:

WHAT. A. FUCKING. CATCH. UZR can suck it.

  550. Nefarious says:

    Granderson!!!

  551. Jetrer says:

    Granderson!!!!
that means Yanks are going to score because of momentum now right?

  552. Karl Krawfid says:

    Oh my lord. Grandy.

  553. mike c says:

granderson is a good hitter, but terrible in the outfield

  554. Ivan says:

    Amazing..just amazing..

  555. Mickey Scheister says:

    Fuck you, UZR!!

  556. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Grandy makes me randy.

  557. MannyGeee says:

Wow… Hope Grandy did not get too hurt on that… Balls out play.

  558. pop up teixeira says:

This is when the yanks will score

  559. Jetrer says:

so was this performance by AJ enough to keep him in the rotation??

  560. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Greg’s Theory of Momentum test take one.

  561. Mojo says:

    This game is absolutely killer.

  562. mbonzo says:

Babip so far in this series
    Yankees- .333
    Red Sox- .377

  563. Cy Pettitte says:

the fuck you looking at Swish?

  564. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    That was low

  565. Tom says:

    wow. nice pitch.

  566. Mojo says:

Haven’t really paid attention, but has Swish hit the Red Sox this series/season?

  567. MannyGeee says:

OK imma say it. AJ did enough to save his job tonight… Dude was on point.

    • Kiko Jones says:

Yes, he did. And like every other time AJ’s pitched great this season, the offense didn’t score or did so after he was pulled. Ugh.

  568. Esteban says:

Safe to say the Yankees should have kept Aceves. At least the Yankees bullpen is still great, but the Sox bullpen wold be worse.

  569. Esteban says:

OMG Andruw smiled. Burn the witch.

  570. MannyGeee says:

Jesus is gonna have to get one into play this AB, right??

  571. Sheepmeister says:

how many pitches has jones seen tonight, I feel like its at least 30 in 4 plate appearances.

  572. Karl Krawfid says:

    Miguel Cabrera in Yankee Stadium?

  573. Esteban says:

    Argh just missed it/

  574. flamingo says:

    This at bat is fantastic.

  575. Mojo says:

Fuck. I don’t remember Ace throwing mid 90s. Damn. Too bad. I was always a fan of his.

  576. MannyGeee says:

Wow. This may be more pItches than andruw has seen in all of august right?

  577. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Beastly AB

  578. Jetrer says:

    great AB

  579. Esteban says:

Andruw Jones doesn’t get cheated at the plate. He swings to hurt the ball.

  580. IRF says:

Andruw Jones has had a crazy good game

  581. mbonzo says:

Way to go Jones. I say you pinch run Gardner here.

  582. Mojo says:

For tonight’s ABs alone, Jones has earned a permanent spot in this lineup I think.

  583. Jetrer says:

bit suprised no PH here, but I kinda like it

  584. blazing fastball says:

    We need a miracle Jesus

  585. Esteban says:

    Straight into the fire.

  586. Roland Deschain says:

Jesus got on base! Good job, kid.

  587. IRF says:

YOU DONT FUCK WITH THE JESUS

  588. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    You don’t hit teh Jesus.

  589. Cy Pettitte says:

HE HIT JESUS? what the fuck.

  590. swishers fauxhawk says:

Eternal damnation for Aceves. No one hits Jesus and lives to tell about it.

  591. MannyGeee says:

Wow… Two hit batsmen by Ace tonight…. Not like him

  592. Tom says:

    welcome to 1st kid…

  593. mbonzo says:

Montero is a cheater. ESPN’s headline tomorrow.

  594. JobaWockeeZ says:

I’ll take it, good job Jesus even if you didn’t do anything.

  595. Mojo says:

    GET THOSE NAILBREAKERS!!!!!!!

  596. Roland Deschain says:

Another man in RISP. Can we fail again in this spot? Will Martin forget how many outs there are and bunt? Chavez will PH for Nunez if Martin doesn’t hit into a DP.

  597. mbonzo says:

See, if Gardner was pinch running for Jones, Dickerson could have pinch run for Jesus.

  598. fresco says:

while its been an underwhelming night, jesus has the look of a pro. the moment doesnt seem to be to big for him. he certainly seems comfortable at the plate alot of good swings.

  599. your mom says:

Good move by Francona. Bard will probably overpower Martin and Nunie. Hope not though.

  600. MannyGeee says:

    I fucking hate daniel bard…

  601. Esteban says:

Does Russel have muscle? We shall see

  602. Greg says:

    That’s nasty

  603. Ivan says:

wow, Dickerson gotta be on 3rd no.

  604. Tom says:

    yeeea baby!!!!

  605. Roland Deschain says:

    RUSSELL!!!!!!!!

  606. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Jesus with that hustle.

  607. mbonzo says:

    MARTIN I LOVE YOU!

  608. Jetrer says:

    Russell!!!!!!

  609. Cy Pettitte says:

    RUSSELL!!!!!!!

    Jesus scores!

  610. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    RUSSELL!!!!

  611. JobaWockeeZ says:

I’ve witnessed Jesus’ first run! And good job Martin, lol.

  612. Rainbow Connection says:

    Yay.

  613. Sarah says:

Russell with the muscle! And Jesus has wheelz!

  614. Tom says:

Oh snap! Montero clapped at home….Lackey is going to charge the plate!

  615. Eirias says:

    Russell Fucking Martin!

  616. Esteban says:

    YES COLTRANE!

  617. pop up teixeira says:

    about fuckin time

  618. jon says:

lol i thought jesus was going to get thrown out by a mile just based on what i know about his speed

  619. Ivan says:

    HUGE!!!!!!!

  620. Sheepmeister says:

unless nunie does some weird double play thing, montero will get a 5th AB.

  621. mbonzo says:

Zombie wants the Red Sox brains!

  622. boogie down says:

Ya know, Montero didn’t look to bad going 1st-to-home there. Certainly not a burner, but he wasn’t as slow as molasses, which is what many have made him out to be.

  623. Rainbow Connection says:

    Eric Chavez = Sox Killer

  624. Cy Pettitte says:

Chavy! so clutch, so so so clutch. love this guy.

  625. Jetrer says:

ballsy decision by Girardi starting the runners, I like the aggressiveness

  626. Roland Deschain says:

Chavez has been clutch this series. Definitely wanna DH him against righties going forward.

  627. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    I love Eric Chavez.

  628. Mike Axisa says:

And so the turntables have … turned.

  629. RayFo says:

Bard is really good but it seems like the Yankees have genuine success against him.

  630. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Zombieeeee.

  631. Esteban says:

    Oh hell yes.

  632. mbonzo says:

High-leverage managing kinda failed Francona tonight.

  633. Mojo says:

    Heart. Attack.

  634. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Who’s the best setup guy in baseball?

    (hint: it’s not Daniel Bard.)

  635. thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

we are quick, myself included to hate on Giradi for stupid moves….the hit and run and then bringing in Chavez were two brilliant moves…every now and then…

  636. brazilian fan says:

Close enough to be a strike.

You just hear it on Nesn

  637. mbonzo says:

Holy cow, Granderson has a .377 OBP

  638. Greg says:

    Momentum test passed.

  639. jon says:

god i hate having to watch this on NESN

they do that pitch track and when AJ gets a called strike thats outside the zone they say blown call

right now they did it for jeters strike there and its outside, so they say its close enough to be a strike. Even though on their own pitch fx its not

  640. Ed says:

Wow. That Granderson catch and that Andruw Jones walk are why we got the lead right there

  641. Karl Krawfid says:

    AAA Romine.

  642. jon says:

Ledger_Yankees Wow, Teixeira pulled out of the ballgame. #nyy

    wtf

    • Roland Deschain says:

      Hope it’s not serious.

    • Matt says:

Teixeira stayed in the game to play defense in the next half inning after he got hit. If it were something serious, they would have probably pulled him right away.

If he’s a little gimpy out there because it stiffens up on him, then it’s not too bad an idea to pull him when you get a lead and tighten up the defense. Also, maybe you can get some treatment on it right away and reduce the swelling so he can play tomorrow night as well.

Now that you have the lead, you wouldn’t want to lose this game because Teixeira doesn’t make some plays because his range is a little diminished because of the HBP.

  643. pop up teixeira says:

    NOW KEEP THE LEAD!

  644. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Come on Soriano.

  645. JobaWockeeZ says:

So is it sucky Soriano or not sucky Soriano?

  646. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Gardy-Grandy-Dickerson has to be like, the fastest OF in baseball.

  647. Eirias says:

    Onto the Battle of So-Ro-Mo.

  648. tom says:

I was thinking, after Andruw Jones’ epochal at-bat, that the Yankees had been doing so many things right tonight but just not getting any reward for them. Really nice to see it finally happen.

And, another chapter of YCPB: after all those earlier hits leading to just 1 run, they now got three runs on only 2. Hell, if Chavez had hit a sac fly, it could have been on 1.

  649. Girardis Matchup Book says:

Watch out, Boston, time for the most expensive Seventh Inning Guy in baseball history.

  650. mbonzo says:

    Gardner saving hits already.

  651. Cy Pettitte says:

Gardy! Soriano owes Gardy a nice dinner

  652. Esteban says:

    The RANGE

  653. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Gold Glover.

  654. JobaWockeeZ says:

Soriano is so fucking lucky Brett Gardner is his left fielder. And he probably thinks he’s so good for letting Gardner do all the work.

  655. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

So, Axisa, what does the game recap look like so far? Do you have the Yankees holding on for the victory?

  656. Ivan says:

    Wow…Gardner defense is ridiculous.

  657. thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

    I heart this outfield

    • tom says:

+1 Even Swisher… yeah he makes some awkward looking plays butoverall he’s better than average.

Of course UZR has him as the best RF in baseball this year… which shows why the whole UZR one year sample size that ESPN is using to downgrade Grandy and pump up Ells is a bit absurd… (Even AGon’s #’s are significantly over his career avg)

  658. mark says:

anyone think martin will get beaned for the hand clap when he touch the plate for the final run of the inning?

  659. your mom says:

Jacoby is having a great year. Fuck him though!

  660. jon says:

lol so NESN just reviewd that ball 4 on the pitch track

if its a strike the thing glows yellow

so of course it glows yellow and remmy says yep low ball four

  661. thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

    boom bitch

  662. alexh says:

    finally a non-fastball to scutaro

  663. Roland Deschain says:

Key to the game- Yankee Killer Marco Scuatro 0-4

  664. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    7th Inning Guy.

  665. Esteban says:

    Yeah Sori. Git’er done.

  666. Cy Pettitte says:

    MFIKY’d

  667. Eirias says:

    ?S?o? – Ro- Mo

  668. Champagne_whores says:

That hook by sori on scutero was sick.

  669. Chen Meng Wang says:

Gardy for Gold Glove this year. If he doesn’t win it, I officially label the award a travesty.

  670. Simon says:

who is pitching Sunday? (going to that game)

  671. mark says:

the only exclamation that should be used for this game is JESUS!!!

  672. Esteban says:

That’s a nice AB there Gardy

  673. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Steal a Base Brett.

  674. thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

time for Cano to go long

  675. Esteban says:

That was a big cut there by Ribbinson

  676. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Shake my head.

  677. jon says:

    fucking gardner

  678. Cy Pettitte says:

    why Brett why? ugh

  679. Ivan says:

To be honest, I dont mind that really.

  680. Jetrer says:

could see that coming a mile away
Gardner is very bad at reading lefties

  681. Mojo says:

    And the epic Brettslump continues…

  682. thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

bottom line…the bullpen does its job…yanks win

  683. your mom says:

    That inning started off good. . . . . .

  684. thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

    lovin the New Era spots

  685. Mojo says:

Not the best of games for Swishnasty.

  686. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Kevin Millar just managed to raise the bar for douchy facial hair.

With that look, I’m surprised that Boston hasn’t already offered him a contract.

  687. thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

    D Rob rusty

  688. Mister Delaware says:

C’mon, David. Just groove one if you must.

  689. Cy Pettitte says:

    what are you doing, David?

  690. jon says:

where was he going to bunt do they shift for agon?

  691. mbonzo says:

According to pitchFX 1,3,4 were all touching the strikezone.

  692. Mojo says:

This game isn’t going to come easy, is it?

  693. Karl Krawfid says:

    Damn D-Rob.

  694. Sarah says:

I know DRob likes to load em up, but tonight, that is not an acceptable option. It is causing Yankee fans BP to rise unacceptably.

  695. Jerome S. says:

    No luck for the Yankees.

  696. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

God, everything that Pedroia does makes me angry.

    P.S., he was out.

  697. Esteban says:

I thought they had it at first. Sheeit

  698. thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

    out!!!!!!!!

  699. Kiko Jones says:

Can we give AJ some props?

  700. Roland Deschain says:

And he was out. Terrible call. Just terrible. Strike zone has been awful, too.

  701. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Out. what a load of bullshit.

  702. Karl Krawfid says:

    He was out :(

  703. mbonzo says:

Pedroia’s grittiness caused the umpire to suck at his job.

  704. Mojo says:

OMG OMG OMG OMG. That was RIGHT down the middle. I believe I’m working on my third or fourth heart attack ’bout now. Not sure, though, pretty sure one of them was a stroke.

  705. Ivan says:

    He was out.

  706. Avi says:

    Ugly Pedroia was OUT!!

  707. pat says:

    Throw Ortiz the change please.

  708. thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

Made Papi look like a BITTTTTTTCH

  709. Mister Delaware says:

    Let’s get this one, Dave-Rob.

  710. mbonzo says:

A battle for first place? I bet Michael Kay his job that the Red Sox are in first place after tonight.

  711. Ivan says:

    96 MPH….Damn.

  712. Sarah says:

    This is brutal.

  713. thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

D Rob got swag for a white boy!!!!!!!!!!!

  714. CBean says:

    ohthankgod!

  715. RCA says:

    Robertson >>> Bard

  716. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    3 more outs.

  717. Mister Delaware says:

    Holler.

  718. Zooboy says:

D-Rob should get credit for 1.1 innings there.

  719. Mojo says:

This will be an interesting half inning. Would love to see both Dick and Monty rip the ball.

  720. Cy Pettitte says:

ok time for Jesus to get a hit

  721. boogie down says:

Homer over the Monster. Heard it here first.

  722. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

This would be a great time for Jesus’s first home run.

  723. pat says:

Tito showing Montero some respect, or just playing it by the numbers?

  724. Addison says:

Girardi has said Montero will NOT get a start behind the plate.

He is strictly a DH, PH, and his playing time is dependent on ARod’s hand going forward and the Yanks position in the standings.

The Yankees didn’t call him up to play everyday, they called him up because it’s September first.

He could get fifty PA’s the rest of the year, he could get twenty.

Either way, he will have NO IMPACT on the Yankees’ position in the standings.

Montero’s appearance in the dugout the next thirty days is no different than Brandon Laird’s or Chris Dickerson’s.

Go take a cold shower, and have a good holiday weekend.

  725. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Jesus hit a bullet.

  726. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Unlucky.

  727. Cy Pettitte says:

Jesus y u no hit 5 home runs tonight? god.

  728. RCA says:

I love Yankee-Red Sox games as much as the next one (especially when we win), but this is ridiculous. They have to do something with the length of these games.

  729. thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

bottom of the lineup Mo….cmon now

  730. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

All right Mo, let’s do dis.

  731. Cy Pettitte says:

DRob gave Mo the easy part. No drama please Mo.

  732. CBean says:

    aww Jesus warming up God.

  733. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    From God to Jesus.

  734. Ivan says:

    Wow….God is throwing to Jesus…Sweet.

  735. Foghorn Leghorn says:

is Suckonmycockia hitting this inning? he’s an anti-latin-ite

  736. thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

    this effing strikezone

  737. pat says:

Oh come on. Stop dicking around with this bitchass Lowrie.

  738. brazilian fan says:

    fucking umps

  739. Roland Deschain says:

Home plate ump is a clown. Terrible strike zone, just like Tuesday. None of these umps should be calling a postseason ballgame.

  740. Mister Delaware says:

I think that’s the wildest pitch I’ve ever seen Mariano throw.

  741. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Come on Mo, don’t make this stressful.

  742. Ivan says:

    Ugh…it never ends quietly.

  743. thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

bottom of the lineup continues to haunt yanks

  744. Karl Krawfid says:

    Seriously Mo?

    Never easy is it.

  745. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    /heart starts beating again

  746. Hummingbird S. says:

Mo’s command is pretty bad tonight

  747. Foghorn Leghorn says:

double play would be good right here…

  748. Mister Delaware says:

I wish Mariano had clapped there.

  749. thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

    one more….lets go MO

  750. Guns of the Navarone says:

Hit a home run because this game isn’t long enough yet.

  751. Mister Delaware says:

    That pitch, twice more.

  752. Addison says:

So, for all of you who ridiculed me and took me up on my $5 offer that Montero wouldn’t get the ball out of the infield tonight, I’ll be calling my old buddy Sammy Gravano tomorrow morning for help in collecting.

You know who you are, and for the first time in your life, when you walk out your front door tomorrow, pay more attention to what’s behind you than in front.

    Losers.

  753. A-Rod's Hip says:

these games in this ballpark make me sick

  754. CBean says:

    i’m going to throw up

  755. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

way to make it easy, Mo

  756. Ivan says:

ahhhhhhh…..Come on Mo…you got this man.

  757. Roland Deschain says:

Please stay away from Scutaro this time, Mo.

  758. Hummingbird S. says:

Great, Mo with no command against Scutaro. Doesnt bring back good memories.

  759. Mister Delaware says:

Mariano wanted Scutaro here. He remembers.

  760. Karl Krawfid says:

    Oh boy.

    Scutaro vs Mo.

  761. Mojo says:

Wow. Potential for monumental collapse here.

  762. Esteban says:

Can they get out Babe Scutaro?

  763. RayFo says:

If this game was on fox we’d be seeing the Scutaro walk off homer against Mo about 1billion times by now.

  764. Ivan says:

    Fuck Scutaro…..

  765. Cy Pettitte says:

what the fuck is going on?

  766. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Oh for fuck’s sake.

  767. A-Rod's Hip says:

    Scutaro just owns Mo

  768. Karl Krawfid says:

    :(

    I don’t want to cry :(

  769. Roland Deschain says:

Shut it down, Mo! Inexcusable to blow another save here. SHUT IT DOWN!

  770. Mojo says:

    No comment. AGon.

  771. Cuso says:

You’ve gotta be kidding me right now

  772. pat says:

    Please Mo. I will cry.

  773. thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

time for the sox to leave runners on and LOSE this game

  774. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    *phew*

    Ballgame over! Yankees win!!

  775. Mister Delaware says:

    BOOM!

  776. Roland Deschain says:

PUT IT ON THE LEFT SIDE! HE FINALLY CALLED THE OUTSIDE PITCH!

  777. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Ballgame bitches.

  778. Jerome S. says:

    OH MY GOD
    OH MY GOD
    OH MY GOD

    okay.

  779. Jetrer says:

    take a seat AGon

  780. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Fuck and yes.

  781. Cy Pettitte says:

yeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssss MO! never doubted you, lol.

  782. Esteban says:

    Mo>AGON

  783. A-Rod's Hip says:

what a pitch by Mo. wow. best pitch of the inning

  784. Ivan says:

    YANKEES WIN THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YANKEES WIN!!!!!!

  785. your mom says:

    Jesus.

  786. Foghorn Leghorn says:

    suck on that, Boston!

  787. swishers fauxhawk says:

    LOL, Josh Bard

  788. Chen Meng Wang says:

yes. fuck yes. I feel like I just had a minor heart attack.

  789. thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

AGon does not hit well against the Yanks. Thats a good thing. 2 outta 3 at Fenway with Aj and Hughes pitching? time to buy the lottery tickets

  790. pop up teixeira says:

finally they win a series against those losers

  791. The Constant Gardner says:

    Yee-haw!

  792. Hall and Nokes says:

    STIFF DRINK TIME

  793. Xstar7 says:

Thank god the Yankees are out of that hellhole they call Fenway Park. I’m gonna get an ulcer watching these Yankees-Red Sox games.

  794. brazilian fan says:

if we meet them in the playoffs it will be a heart attack tryout series.

    I can’t handle it

  795. Jorge says:

I’ll show up in time to say what an incredibly sweet victory. Great to see Montero score that winning run. Great to see AJ not have to be carried off in a straightjacket. Great to see Mo and DRob do what they do. Goodbye, Fenway. May you be accidentally blown up by the spring.

  796. Lol at Mo player of the game.

  797. Dino Velvet says:

    Jesus works in mysterious ways.

  798. Stratman9652 says:

If Jesus is going to catch this year, tomorrow would be the time to do it. I’m sure he has caught Nova before.
