    JESUS FTW!

  • Mattchu

5-5 night im calling it right now :D

  • David, Jr.

I forget. Who is pitching for us?

  • Melky

I don’t remember being this excited for Hughes.

  • boogie down
  • http://twitter.com/Carlosologist_7 Carlosologist

I for one will be… disappointed if his Sterling HR call is “Montero is Dinero”.

    But hey, go Jesus!

    • Zanath

His homerun call will be Jesus saves. Count on it.

      • DCBX

I’d betcha a cold one that will NEVER happen. Sterling has been in broadcasting too long to EVER say anything that likely to piss off a bunch of religious folk. Even Pa Pinstripe knows better than that.

“Hey, Zeus… with a lightning strike to right center!”

“Hey, Zeus with the thunderbolt to rain on the Sawx’ parade” etc.

He’s corny, but not straight stupid.

    • Owen Two

      Holy Jesus!

  • VO

    A quick something I made
    http://www.twitvid.com/PP1GU

    • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

      Interesting choice in music.

      • VO

I personally thought it would be funny, Jesus, being our hero. Eh maybe not.

        • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

I guess if you look at it that way it is pretty funny.

  • Sheepmeister

When I heard the news he was in the lineup, my first and only thought.

    http://www.instanthallelujah.com/

  • Mattchu

Imagine the the sight if Montero was trying to catch A.J. tonight

  • Mbovasso

    Isn’t it AJ

  • tom

This game is on paper such a pitching mismatch that I’m going in with expeectations below sea level. Which’ll make it easier to watch it as Montero’s debut alone.

  • http://twitter.com/Carlosologist_7 Carlosologist

Man, Saltalamacchia is gonna be pissed if Montero HRs tonight.

  • Zach

If we lose and the Rays win..they’ll be five games back of us. Win tonight guys!

    • Rainbow Connection

I thought they were 8 games back 24 hours ago?

    • RayFo

If we lose tonight and they win we’ll be up 7 in the L column and as they say you can’t get those back.

    • Zanath

No, they will be 6.5 back.

  • boogie down

It would be amazing if Jesus drove an opposite field homer off of Lester, just to see/hear the collective “Oh, shit” from the Fenway folks.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Surprised by Montero’s accent. A mix of Venezuelan and Pennsylvanian. Go figure.

  • Greg

    Big noght tonight.

    Montero debuts
Jets and Giants play their final preseason game
    College Football begins.

  • Melky

Is there a chance Mike will have to split these threads?

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

Jesus goes 0-3 and you’ll hear the word “bust” somewhere in the media.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

AJ’s line tonight? I’m going to be optimistic and say 5IP, 5 hits, 3 runs, 4K’s, 3 BB’s. And wins in back of Jesus’s 4-4 with 4 Grand Slams debut 16-3.

    • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

I got him either going 2 innings and 7 runs or 7 innings and 2 runs. Jesus 0-3 with a walk.

  • Bronx Byte

What uniform number will Montero have ? Hopefully not a high football number.

    • Rainbow Connection

      63

  • Ivan

Im so excited rite now. Jesus long waiting debut is upon us and I just cant believe it. Lets go Jesus, lets go Yankees.

  • bonestock94

    Don’t fuck with the Jesus

    • Ivan

Or u will pay for your sins.

    • Corporate Scum

8 year olds, Dude. 8 year olds.

  • Roland Deschain

Jesus has been summoned to be our savior. We’re going to need his bat tonight and as a Yankee official said, Jesus will be our best option at DH going forward. Burnett just needs to not take us out of the ballgame entirely and Jesus will do the rest.

  • Rainbow Connection

I think I figured out AJ’s problem. He’s used to having time off due to injuries. With the Yanks, he’s been pretty much healthy and hasn’t gotten 2 weeks off here and there. That’s all he needs.
His being healthy is his undoing!
    Problem solved.

    • Greg

Actually I’ve heard that theory before. I think when AJ first came to the Yankees, the main concern was injury.

The fact that is he is pitching full seasons when he was injured before might have a tiring factor on him.

  • Jamey

So is Phil Mickelson the Snoop Dogg of MLB? I swear I’ve seen him get the “honorary _____” treatment or wearing gear for like 20 different teams.

    • Rainbow Connection

Is Phil a complete sell-out and hypocrite, too? I honestly don’t know.

      • Jamey

lets just say it evens out that he is because I’m sure there’s probably a picture of him & Snoop hanging out, cause Snoop just does shit like that. “Dats a pic of me n’ my boy Bieber son”

  • Jimmy McNulty

Wash away the sins of the monster with your bat my son.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

It’s the rubber match of a Red Sox-Yankees series with the Yankees top prospect debuting and the text poll question is about college football rivalries? Weak.

And Phil Mickelson is a Red Sox fan? Now I like him even less…

  • dkidd

when jesus gives his pitcher a pep talk: “jesus gives a sermon…on the mound!”

when jesus hits a tough pitch: “jesus turns water into…line drives!”

when jesus blocks a curveball in the dirt with a runner on third: “jesus saves…a run from scoring!”

    /me for the next 15 years’d

  • wolf larson

Hate to spoil fun but I bet Lester drills Montero at some point tonite. Sox are a nasty bullying club that has led league in hit batsment over the last decade or so.

    • Greg

Beckett didn’t do anything last night.

      • Rainbow Connection

I remember Beckett usually doing it in the past when he’s in line to lose the game.
Phil kept the Yankees hitters safe.

      • The Big City of Dreams

Except bitch like he always does

  • Corporate Scum

I want to go ahead and get on record:

    BUST!!!!

He’s been up since September 1, and hasn’t even reached base ONCE in the major leagues. Pathetic. Let’s hurry up and trade him for right handed middle relief while we still can.

  • Kelly

excited to see montero. as for the callups i was expecting noesi to be here

    • Sheepmeister

he is not eligible yet, has to be in the minors for 10 days.

      • CBean

        or until their season ends.

  • Karl Krawfid

I wonder, if AJ pitches well will it buy him another year of suckage.

“Remember that game he pitched against the Red Sox in September!”

  • Alfredo

I will be surprised if we win tonight. GO MONTERO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • IRF
  • Karl Krawfid

    lol at that little kid!

  • Graham lloyd

Wen typing “jesus” into google. Montero comes up before christ. Anticipation? I think so

  • Grit for Brains

    ZOMG ZOMG !!1!! teh ZOMG

    ::Head Explodes::

  • Rainbow Connection

Why do they keeping saying this game is a battle for first place? The Yanks are 1.5 games behind, not 0.5.

    • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

It’s a battle for a loss column tie.

  • eephus

I’m surprised no one has said they put him in the line up to take some of the spotlight off of AJ which could be one of the reasons he is playing right away. Regardless I’m excited!

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

So according to the ticker at the bottom of the screen, MLB fined Lackey for drilling Cervelli. Glad something was done, no way was that unintentional.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Jawn Lestah with a wicked strikeout of Dereck Jeetah.

  • Greg

More of those please and less K’s.

  • Cy Pettitte

    Teix got a hit? amazing.

    • Greg

He’s a much better pure hitter from the right side.

  • IRF

    Granderson makes that play

  • jon

home run to get to 100 rbis

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Tex hits a lot better from the right side.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

with Tex’s luck I kinda expected them to get Grandy at 2nd

  • CP

Granderson makes that catch standing up.

    • JobaWockeeZ

      UZR disagrees.

  • RCA

We actually rock Lester….Didn’t know that. Hopefully we can do it again.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Yes Robbie. Yes.

  • Cy Pettitte

Robbie!!!!! oh yea, only need 11 more to AJ proof this.

  • Roland Deschain

They’re all SAFE! Find a way to get those two runs in!

  • nedro

    WOW! that was close, rob.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

That was a gritty slide. Pure grit avoided the tag.

  • bonestock94

Lestah not looking like an ace

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Robinson! The Yankees need to score as many runs as they can with AJ on the mound tonight.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

Is it just my confirmation bias, or does Cano absolutely crush the Red Sox?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

He’s got the highest batting average against the Red Sox in baseball history (min. 200 PA). They mentioned it in one of the earlier games.

      • AaronGuielWithASmile

Wow. Not confirmation bias then haha.

He really does have the perfect swing for Fenway.

    • RayFo

I believe he has the highest average of any Yankee ever in Fenway.

  • IRF

That was an insanely athletic slide

  • The Big City of Dreams

Cano just stole the midget’s move

    • RCA

      LOL…exactly. haha

      • The Big City of Dreams

I love when Cano makes Fenway his personal playpen

    • Monteroisdinero

      Greet>>>>Grit

      • The Big City of Dreams

        It’s not even debatable

  • Corporate Scum

Swisher walks, Jones makes an out…. Jesus gets his first four RBI’s?

    • jon

      thats a given

  • Monteroisdinero

    Pitch count heading up nicely.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Lester has thrown 25 pitches already.

  • Cy Pettitte

    great AB regardless of outcome

    • YanksFan in MA

Yup. This inning is gonna be extremely taxing on Lester.

  • Esteban

Oh that was the pitch you struck out on? Ay caramba Swisher.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    whatevs. still a great AB.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Dammit, that was ball 4 Swish.

  • Cy Pettitte

ewww Swish, don’t see that kind of swing often

  • Monteroisdinero

    Swish-so painful

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Bah. Clean this up, Andruw.

  • Cy Pettitte

where is the PIP Jesus cam?

  • StanfordBen

I assume we’re all rooting for a Jones walk here to load the bases for…

  • Alex Taffet

I feel like a teenage girl. I’m fidgeting in my chair with excitement.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Yes… walk Jones to get to Montero. I dare you.

  • Esteban

Walk Andruw to load the bases for Heyzeus. It’s destiny

  • Tom

Why am I so excited for his AB???

  • Naved

    Come on get a walk!!!

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

That … looked like a strike.

  • Esteban

The Jesus doesn’t look as bulked up as I though he would. Maybe it’s just the road grays?

    • The Big City of Dreams

According to Waldman he lost weight.

  • Tom

anyone know what number montero has?

    • Stryker

      60

      • sangreal

        63 actually

  • CP

Montero looks like he’s wearing the anti-Cervelli helmet…

  • Esteban

Nice at least 37 pitches in the 1st.

  • Chris

…and standing on deck, is the future!

  • jon

    jones better walk

  • Roland Deschain

Push those runs home. Swisher should have made contact or taken the walk.

  • Chris

You know if they want to speed up the game, that should count as a mound visit.

  • bonestock94

    Andruw’s gonna belt it

  • JobaWockeeZ

    YES WALKED!

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

What an at bat by Jones.

  • blazing fastball

Let’s hope his little stint on the cross a while back didn’t affect his hitting

  • Roland Deschain

Here he is! It’s boom or bust, Jesus.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    OMG.

  • Cy Pettitte

OH MY GOD, IT:S JESUS TIME

    omg omg omg

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

    This could be toooo cool.

  • Naved

    HERE WE GO!

  • IRF

    I’m giddy

  • Greg

    Here comes Montero.

  • Chris

YES! I CAN SEE THE YANKEES CLASSIC NOW! LETS GO JESUS!!!!!!!!!!

  • bonestock94

    JEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSs

    ohhhhhhhh baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Let’s do dis Jesus

  • Karim Garcia

    Oh my God!

  • jon

    jesus doesnt look THAT big

    • Mike HC

      Looks like he lost weight

  • Chen Meng Wang

    JESUS!!!!!

  • Mike HC

I’m pretty sure he won’t be “bored” during this at bat

  • Total Dominication

I’m excited, and also really nervous.

  • Chris

eek, settle down there big guy.

  • Chen Meng Wang

    Btw, good evening everybody =D

  • 4_Everbronx

    cmon!!!!

  • Esteban

    Good eye kid.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    What a take.

  • Esteban

    Make him work rook.

  • JobaWockeeZ

    Good AB, good AB…

  • Mike HC

He is catching up to 95 mph heat pretty good. Good sign.

  • Mojo

Whatever happens in this AB, I’m just happy to see him in our lineup. Thank Mo for baby Jesus.

    • Mike HC

Yea, just for entertainment purposes. Every at bat is going to be pretty exciting for a while with him.

  • Total Dominication

He’s already achieved what I wanted him too in this at bat.

  • Justin

HES A BUST! SEND HIM BACK TO SCRANTON! TRADE HIM FOR A LOOGY!

  • bonestock94

    Veteran AB

  • Chris

    oh well….

  • nedro

    BUST!!!!

  • Roland Deschain

Kid’s a bust. Just like the rest of the team, can’t hit with RISP.

  • Esteban

Not surprised he struck out. Not upset either.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I don’t care. Most exciting plate appearance of the year.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    He must still be board

  • Chen Meng Wang

trade him, maybe we can get a bag of balls for him at this rate.

    • Chen Meng Wang

      /sarcasm.

  • Monteroisdinero

    oh well

  • Alfredo

good at bat better pitching by Lester.

  • Jetrer

    well that was anti-climactic
    Not a bad AB though

  • jon

first at bat and takes 6 pitches from john lester? thatll do

  • IRF

    What. A. Bust.

  • 4_Everbronx

    well shit!!

  • Total Dominication

6 pitches off of Jon Lester is a success in my book.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

Normally I’d be thrilled with making Lester throw 43 pitches in the first no matter the outcome.

With Burnett on the mound though, I really wish we could’ve pushed more than 1 across.

    • 4_Everbronx

I’m sure Burnett is gonna throw his second no-no tonight.

    • RCA

With Burnett on the mound, 5 is not enough. Hopefully after the earthquake and hurricane in the NYC area the past week, Burnett pitching 7 IP/2 ER would be the third act of rarity.

    • Sarah

But you know it doesn’t matter how big AJ’s lead is, so maybe keeping it small will keep his head in the game.

  • spectra

    That would have been cool

BUT HEY Lester is at 45 pitches and were up by one.

Now we just need another minor miracle in Burnett

  • StanfordBen

What did Babe Ruth, Rogers, Hornsby, Ted Williams, Willie Mays, and Jesus Montero all do in their first major league at bats?

    • IRF

I remember twitter just exploded with excitement during Hornsby’s first AB

      • Corporate Scum

        I LOL’d

  • RCA

I hope Lester is mad at himself and not the ump, those pitches (except the Jones high “ball”) were balls clearly. I hate when they try to intimidate the ump, good AB by Montero, this ain’t Triple AAA anymore kid and he’s already up to 43 pitches.

  • Tom

Oh god he sucks, .000 avg vs lefties. Posada is clearly better, wtf…he blows….arhghaghhghag

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Like you didn’t see that coming.

  • Zooboy

    Fits right in. (*sigh*)

  • Alfred

Satisfied with that AB. He came up and it sure looked like a deer-in-the-headlight look in his eyes. First high fastball when he couldn’t hold up kind of confirmed this and then two impressive layoffs with 2 strikes, especially the outside pitch. Fought of some and was a great curve from Lester. Good AB.

    • tom

      It was a cutter…

Still a tough pitch to lay off of as that looks pretty good out of the hand before it cuts down and in.

  • blazing fastball

Oh well… nowhere to go but up

  • IRF

Alright AJ, theres you’re one run. Now go get us a win!

  • Karl Krawfid

AJ will get smacked around here.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

The Yankees relievers still making their way to the bullpen? Can’t wait to hear about how Josh Beckett likes that!!

  • Jay h

You all jinxed him with your talk of destiny. Way to go.

  • Cy Pettitte

    I still love you, Jesus.

  • RayFo

whine whine cry cry cry complain complain is all lester ever does. fuck him.

  • Tom

and here we go with burnett…..good thing they are playing Montero or no one would watch this game…

  • Karl Krawfid

    OMG he got 1 out!

  • Cy Pettitte

time for one of those fabled AJ Burnett 2 hit shutouts

    • Sarah

      I’m ready.

  • Sarah

I’m taking it out by out. 1 down.

  • Justin

Sad thing is , we made lester throw 45 pitches in the first inning. How much you wanna bet the next 2 innings the team swings at the first or second pitch and he has two 9 pitch innings?

    • Esteban

      $1 billion

  • Karl Krawfid

I love his new motion btw.

  • mbonzo

    AJ is hitting his spots.

  • Kostas

This is why I don’t go to church… Jesus is just as pedestrian as the common man…..For now.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Burnett changed something in his delivery.

    • Karl Krawfid

Wind up. Hands staying in front.

      • nedro

        good call

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

His legs are further apart when he’s set.

    • Karl Krawfid

Also isn’t doing the King Felix turn thing.

  • Chen Meng Wang

Did they announce Hughes to the bullpen or is Kenny speaking in hypotheticals?

  • Tom

and the rally comes with 2 outs.

  • Yankeefan91 Arod Fan

looks Like Burnett Change His Delivery A Lil Bit.

  • nedro

1st wild pitch of the night?

  • Monteroisdinero

So kids, my first ab in baseball I struck out just like Jeter and Swisher did.

    I did better after that.

    /Montero 2035

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Kay, you are the only one who forgets about 09 Hughes.

  • Kostas

    Ut oh… here we go.

  • spectra

what are the odds that Lester gets yanked before Burnett… oh wait Lester was already “YANKED” in the first inning

  • Cy Pettitte

“must be a big day Pedroia shaved”

    it’s Jesus day.

    • Sarah

Without the beard he’s just a midget, not a koala.

  • Chen Meng Wang

Hey who is that kid batting for the Sox? I thought you had to be at least 16 to play in the MLB?

  • IRF

    A curveball for strikes?!?

  • JobaWockeeZ

Well it only took the entire year of suck to figure out something needed ot be changed but as with the Jesus situation better late than never.

  • Tom

Someone tell Burnett to knock it off with his Lester impression.

  • Avi

If you assemble any 25 humans on earth , what are the odds they end up as ugly as the red sox?

    • RCA

I was just gonna say that. They have some ugly dudes on that team. Pedroia, YOukilis, Gonzalez, Papelbum, Lester.

      • Avi

It’s amazing. It’s almost like they send them for plastic surgery for it. How else could they pull it off?

    • Chen Meng Wang

Well, that depends, statistically and philosophicly any thing is possible. But if the Red Sox are already assembled then the odds are astronomical. The number is too small to even think about.

  • Greg

    ITS A MIRACLE!

  • Roland Deschain

AJ’s lasted longer than I thought he would.

  • Cy Pettitte

    hooray for shutdown innings

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

All right AJ, do that 8 more times.

    • Cy Pettitte

      8? I’d take 5 or 6.

      • Chen Meng Wang

        +1

    • Sarah

      +1.

  • Karl Krawfid

OMG no runs allowed. I’m done. I expect 7 innings of 2 run ball now.

  • JobaWockeeZ

Hurry and bring Jesus back please.

  • Brian

What inning wil he melt down? I’m going with the 4th.

    • Chen Meng Wang

6th. (In other words Girardi, I don’t care if he is perfect between now and then, after 5 innings go to the god damn bullpen.)

      • RCA

Exactly..to further expand. I don’t care if he strikes out the next 15 batters in 45 pitches, he gets out after 6.

    • Karl Krawfid

      He won’t.

    • JobaWockeeZ

2nd. The sucky hitters becomes beasts against the Yankees.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    6. I don’t care

  • mbonzo

Watching some video of AJ from his Oakland game, he’s changed quite a few things. He’s slowed down his leg kick and taking a much bigger stride, which is causing him to throw with his whole body and following threw on the pitches, kinda like how Lincecum exaggerates his follow through. He seems to be concentrating on the stride and getting velocity from his hips/legs rather than rushing the stride.

  • Simon

Could you imagine how huge it would be if AJ actually puts it together with these recent changes he made with Rothschild? That would be HUGE, especially if it starts tonight…

  • Total Dominication

Good to see Kay doesn’t like the question either.

  • Kostas

    Lowrie throws like a girl

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

After the first inning, this game is on pace to take 6 hours by the way.

Somewhere, Joe West is choking in rage on a turkey leg.

  • Greg

Not good pitch selection. I get that from Nunez not from Martin.

  • Tom

Did anyone else just notice the girl in the stands with the neon green vest, scarf and sweat shirt on? its 75 degrees out!!!!

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Please at least keep working long AB’s. Don’t bail him out.

  • Mojo

So… the chances of Lester reassembling his spectacular self and shooting 7 more scoreless innings? Lester’s good. I seriously hope that he doesn’t find his groove. Keep on uppin’ that pitch count, damnit.

    • Grit for Brains

At 56 pitches through 2 IP, he aint going 9

  • tom

Good fucking thing Jeter was safe there. If they’d let Lester get through the inning on six pitches…

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Yay BABIP!

  • RCA

Karma is a fucking bitch Lester.

  • https://twitter.com/TheRealJeromeS Jerome S.

About time the Red Sox get fucked like that.

  • Jetrer

    BABIP luck for a change

  • Tom

YES! Its a yankee kind of night!

Jesus arrive, we get BABIP luck. I like where this is going.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Thank you Jesus.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    Ha!

Boston has gotten all the hops in the first two games, nice to see lady luck even things out a bit.

    Let’s get Jeter home!

  • nedro

    How’s THAT for BABIP fucked?!?!?

  • Sarah

Did we make up with BABIP overnight? Is it because Jesus is here?

Let’s go Tex! DESTROY! DESTROY! MT25 – DESTROY!

I’d like to see Curtis run here

Surprise, surprise. Mr. Popup/strikeout/groundout is back.

    Man Tex sucks.

  • JobaWockeeZ

Well only one Yankee needs to get on for Jesus to come up again.

    MT25 FAIL
    even Jesus can’t save him.

  • Mojo

FUCK TEX! He’s a lefty! A lefty, I tell you! You can’t pop up (in foul territory nonetheless) against a LEFTY!

  • Roland Deschain

Two strikeouts and a weak pop up with RISP. We’re getting to Lester, even getting lucky and still can’t do a damn thing.

  • Monteroisdinero

Oh tex-just take pitches to get the pitch count up.

Pitch count up>>>>>>Tex pops it up

  • nedro

Really liking that Lester pitch count.

    • your mom

      Really hating Tex’s pop-ups.

      • Bob Stone

That’s all he’s been doing lately. I’m sick of it.

  • Mojo

So, when are we going to read about Teixera getting benched for three days and working with K. Long? Seriously, this shit if officially old. Granderson putting together an MVP-caliber season and he’s mashing what he could not formerly mash. Where’s my goddamn K. Long intervention. We NEED Tex for the playoffs. We NEED him to be his All-Star self.

    • mbonzo

Tex has 35 homeruns, you’ll forget all about the pop-up when he hits his next bomb.

      • Mojo

Nah, not really. The whole 3 outcome scenario has now become a 4 outcome poopfest: Groundout, Popout, Strikeout, Walk. I’ll take 20 less homers if he starts hitting .310ish. When you pop-out as often as Tex, isn’t the solution relatively simple? He needs Kevin Long more than anyone else on this team. Everyone speaks wonders about him… I just want to know if he’s been working or has worked with him already. Obvious problem with Tex, here’s hoping that he fixes it.

  • nedro

Wow. Ortiz hit that hard. Bad sign?

    • mbonzo

Not really, it was a 3-1 count, you just wanna try to beat him with a fastball, which is kinda hard to do with Ortiz.

  • bill

There goes the no hit bid!

  • Chen Meng Wang

…I cannot believe Crawford has a .288OBP. What happened to him?

      • Chen Meng Wang

He has, and I kind of figured he’d have lower on base stats as he got older but .288?! I didn’t think he’d fall that far off the cliff.

    • Kostas

became a whore for money and no longer loves the game…. baseball Gods are not pleased

  • Karl Krawfid

    A lot of fastballs man.

    I don’t like this.

    • mbonzo

I do, the less they see the curveball, the more prone they’ll be to whiffing with 2 strikes.

  • U Thant

I love Jed Lowrie’s official Shane Victorino Little League helmet.

    • nedro

I thought he just had a really small head…

    • thumbs

It has extra padding because he has had concussions, as well as every other imaginable injury.

  • Matt

There is very little reason to swing at a first pitch off of Lester right now, especially with nobody on base. What did the brilliant hitters just do in that last inning? Exactly that.

It’s unbelievable how bad the approach is from some of these guys. Lester has overpowering stuff, so you may not hit even a hitter’s pitch. His pitch count is elevated, so you can knock him out of the game if you keep working him. Nobody is on base, so swinging at the first pitch might not be that valuable even if you get a single.

Lester did not “pound the zone” in that inning, which would have forced the hitters to be more aggressive. Rather, he took advantage of the over aggressiveness of guys like Martin and Nunez, and let them get themselves out.

44 pitches in the first, and they were lucky that wasn’t just a 6 pitch inning there. Put aside the selfishness and take some pitches.

    • https://twitter.com/TheRealJeromeS Jerome S.

It’s almost like good pitchers have the ability to rebound and progress as the game goes on…

      • Matt

Right, because Lester made some really tough pitches in that inning? Nunez popping out on a pitch high and away, and Teix getting himself out swinging at a cutter 4 inches off the plate inside?

Don’t make up the narrative to suit the outcome. If a guy gets outs, it’s not always because he’s pitching well. The hitters can help him out by swinging at bad pitches that he didn’t set up that well, or he can get lucky on balls in play.

        • https://twitter.com/TheRealJeromeS Jerome S.

First of all, Nunez sucks overall. Never expect anything great from him.

Second, pitching is… deceiving. Teixeira swings at pitches like that because he thinks he can hit them, and quite often he does. Then it cuts away last second… because it’s a cutter.

Lester’s a good pitcher, the Yankees are faring pretty well against him. Relax.

          • Matt

Nunez does not suck. He likely isn’t sharp with his swing because of the lack of plate appearances recently.

That at bat had very little to do with whether Nunez is a good or a bad hitter. It was all about the lack of an approach in that situation. He swung at a bad pitch in a spot in which he needed to take 1 or 2 pitches to work the pitch count, and got himself out.

It doesn’t matter who did that. It could have been the April version of Jeter grounding out on the first pitch of the at bat. Either way, it’s something that cannot happen. It’s either a total mental lapse by the hitter, or a selfish attempt to get a base hit at the expense of the team’s overall game plan.

            • https://twitter.com/TheRealJeromeS Jerome S.

That has everything to do with Nunez. He has no plate discipline, hence why he gets minimal PA’s. For something that “Cannot happen” it seems to happen an awful lot, and no one cares and it doesn’t matter.

              • Matt

It does matter, and a lot of people care.

Nunez may have bought Lester an extra inning in the game. I’m sure that other guys were ticked off to see an at bat like that after all of their hard work in the first inning.

An inning of Lester instead of an inning of a middle relief pitcher can greatly change the flow of a close game like we have tonight.

You are just trying to argue for the sake of arguing. Give it a rest. You know it was a terrible at bat, and one that a Major League hitter has to not have in that situation.

                • https://twitter.com/TheRealJeromeS Jerome S.

                  It’s almost like Nunez is a below-average hitter…

                  • Matt

Is that all that you have? You keep repeating that, and I keep telling you that it doesn’t change the argument one bit.

Standing there with the bat on your shoulder for at least one pitch in that at bat is not something that only the good hitters can do.

I’m not saying to have him stand there and take 2 pitches right down the middle. Nunez went up there in a situation that called for patience, and instead exhibited total aggressiveness. The mental aspect of the game is something that even a bad player can be aware of in that situation.

                    • https://twitter.com/TheRealJeromeS Jerome S.

Just because I keep repeating doesn’t make it wrong. I keep saying it because you don’t get it: Bad hitters will have bad at-bats, regardless of situation.

                    • Matt

And he could have still had a bad at bat, while making Lester throw 3 or 4 pitches.

Standing there and not swinging the bat is not dependent on skill as a hitter. It’s dependent on situational awareness, which Nunez clearly lacks.

            • Jetrer

I think the team’s overall game plan first and foremost would be to score runs, which is usually accomplished best by being selectively aggressive, not by being passive for the sake of being passive. I agree Nunez should not have swung at that pitch, but that is the kind of hitter he is. It has nothing to do with mental lapses and everything to do with Nunez being a hacker.

              • Matt

Obviously that is the game plan, but you are facing a tough pitcher like Lester.

You can’t go up there with the mindset of “I will swing at the first pitch I see, and try to hit it hard somewhere.” The first pitch that you see may be a perfect pitch on the corner, with which you can’t do anything.

Selective patience, yes, but what the hitters in that inning exhibited was not that. They swung at tough pitches to hit and helped him out. If Nunez is swinging at the first pitch, it better be near the middle of the plate in that situation.

                • Jetrer

I’m not saying swing at the first pitch or first strike you see. I’m saying swing at the first strike you think you can handle well, which I thought everyone but Nunez did.

    • mbonzo

Why do you think you know how to work a pitcher’s count better than the best team in baseball does?
For god sakes, the Yankees forced Lester to throw 56 pitches in 2 innings and you’re complaining about how they can’t work a count.

      • Matt

That is not what I said. Read the post again.

Also, 44 of those 56 pitches came in the first inning. They need to be more patient in that situation. Nunez went up there and popped out on the first pitch, as the number 9 hitter, with nobody on base, and it wasn’t a strike. He has to know the situation there and approach the at bat differently than he would with runners on base.

Nunez was the key failure in that inning, and everyone knows it. He lost track of the situation and bailed the opposing pitcher out.

If Lester throws 44 pitches in the first inning, and 12 pitches in every other inning, he could end up pitching 6 innings. You have to finish the job, and at bats like Nunez’s there cannot happen.

        • https://twitter.com/TheRealJeromeS Jerome S.

Again, Nunez blows. His blowing is not out-of-the-ordinary. Why are you complaining?

          • Matt

Again, it has nothing to do with the ability of a hitter. Standing there with the bat on your shoulder is a skill that does not depend on your ability to make solid contact. Nunez had a terrible at bat, and one that had everything to do with a total lack of mental awareness.

            • https://twitter.com/TheRealJeromeS Jerome S.

That has everything to do with your skill as a hitter. Shitty hitters swing at shitty pitches and make shitty contact… What else to it is there?

    • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

What did you think of the first inning?

      • Matt

That is not relevant to this discussion.

Once you made him throw 44 pitches in that inning, you have to make sure that you continue to work him. The first inning is over and done. You have to keep putting up good at bats, and Nunez went up there and bailed him out big time.

        • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Nunez will do that. That’s the kind of hitter he is, and that approach has worked for him. Also, of course there would be a dropoff in pitches after a 44 pitch inning.

    • Jetrer

“Lester did not “pound the zone”

the only one of the pitches that was swung at that was not in the strike zone was the last pitch to Tex
Taking strikes just in hopes of wearing out Lester is most likely just going to result in a lot of bad hitter’s counts and bad results
The only AB I would really complain about that inning was Nunez, swinging at a first pitch that wasn’t a great pitch to hit, but he’s a #9 hitter for a reason

      • Matt

Nunez’s pitch was not a strike either.

You’re missing the point of the term “pound the zone” though.

When someone says that a pitcher is “pounding the strike zone,” that usually means that they are going right after hitters and laying pitches in there early in the count. Lester has been nibbling around the corners all night. He is throwing strikes, but not hittable ones. In that instance, you need to be patient, because if you swing at pitcher’s pitches you will get yourself out.

        • Jetrer

“Nunez’s pitch was not a strike either.”
It looked like a borderline strike to me, and Pitch f/x agrees.
          http://www.brooksbaseball.net/.....type=3.gif
As far as where his pitches were overall that inning, almost none of the strikes he threw were on the corners. Of course he’s not going to lay pitches right down the middle, but he was aggressively attacking the zone, as you would expect from a very good pitcher who threw a ton of pitches the inning before.
          http://www.brooksbaseball.net/.....type=3.gif

          • Matt

Brooks Baseball is a nice tool, but it is misleading because it doesn’t show how much room it is giving for borderline pitches in the box.

On Gameday, you can see that the pitch was only a generous strike at best. Not a pitch to be aggressive on early in the count.

            • Jetrer

I never disagreed with that. I said it was borderline and not a good pitch to hit. But Nunez’ AB was the only AB I had a problem with that inning.

  • Cy Pettitte

    holy lol at Papi’s slide

  • IRF

    Ok that was pretty funny

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

I’d love to see a pitcher pitch from the windup with Ortiz on first.

  • Bob Stone

I’m holding my breath on AJ. Jesus has had an inauspcious debut . . . so far. I like the Lester pitch count.

2 shutout innings is much more than I expected. for that, I am grateful.

  • Monteroisdinero

So do we want to try to take a strike to work the pitch count or unload on the first pitch of each ab thinking Lester will groove the first pitch to try to get ahead and keep the pitch count down?

    strategy thoughts?

    • mbonzo

Cano will swing at the first pitch, Swisher and Jones will work the count.

      • Monteroisdinero

        so far you are correct.

    • Bob Stone

Interesting question. I think we wait him out.

  • https://twitter.com/TheRealJeromeS Jerome S.

I’ve seen this movie before. AJ gives you several shut-out innings, right to the point where start to get a little hope, and BAM, 6-run meltdown.

I want to believe, but I really can’t.

    • Guns of the Navarone

There’s no reason to believe. He looks like shit tonight no matter what the results have been over 2 innings. He has no idea where his fastball is going. It’s only a matter of time…

Don’t go down 1-2-3 or GIDP and we see Jesus again.

  • Greg

If Lester is throwing strikes the Yankees have to swing at pitches.

  • Karl Krawfid

Nunez and Cano don’t want Lester to work.

    • Greg

But that’s their hitter’s makeup. They are agressive swinging the bat.

  • Mojo

Watch Lester’s pitch count level off and be perfectly set up to pitch the ninth. Damnit. I hate this episode more than any other.

Hooray for level headed fans. I just wanted to see what kind of response that would get.

      • Dave

        LOL — the disclaimer already?

Of course it wouldn’t change anything — but if he hits say, .275 with 6 HRs? Then I’m sure it will mean EVERYTHING and then some to you and the other Jesus Freaks.

        A bad 80-100 ABs = meaningless.
        A good 80-100 ABs = “See!? He’s awesome!”

We’ll see how much perspective and context is kept if he holds his own at all this month. I can imagine what the reaction would’ve been if he hit that Lester slider over the wall. You’d be discussing where they should put his plaque in Monument Park.

Wow. AJ is somewhat decent tonight… So far

    • Bob Stone

      Fingers crossed!!!!!!!

AJ’s stride looks like CC’s. I wonder if they’re working together. Watch one of AJ’s highlites in August and you’ll see him going about twice the speed and 80% of his current stride.

Well the game has been tedious but at least AJ is doing well so far.

3 more innings like that and he will keep his rotation spot. Since Phil struggled all AJ needed was a good outing and so far he’s done it.

    • Jetrer

Girardi said he wasn’t going to base the decision on just one start though, so not necessarily

      • Chen Meng Wang

He did say that AJ could save his spot with a good outing though. At least I think he did. Plus his love for AJ proves that if AJ does well he’ll get another chance.

  • Rainbow Connection

Jesus picking up right where Posada left off. Killing rallies.

    • Greg

Both were with 2 outs though and I dont count those as golden opportunities.

Montero is also 20 years old and has 2 MLB ABs to his name now.

      • Karl Krawfid

        21. he old.

  • Mojo

How terrible is it that I’d actually rather see Cervelli catching than Martin? Meh, perhaps my mind’s playing tricks on me. I seriously hope that Jesus becomes a bonafide superstar. I’m used to having a fantastic catcher behind the plate for the last 15ish years. May Jesus mash and bash for the next 20 years and play superior defense too!

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

There is literally nothing Cervelli does better than Martin. Martin’s a better hitter, a better hitter for power, better at framing pitches, better at blocking balls in the dirt, better at throwing, and better at running the bases.

      • Cy Pettitte

fist pump, clap. that’s two things.

      • Mojo

Oh, I see. Next thing you’re gonna tell me is that he’s ALSO better at fist-pumping? BOLOGNE! Good day, sir. I said GOOD DAY!

      • mbonzo

Woah, hold your horses. You’re gonna insult Cervelli’s fist pumps by even comparing him to Martin?

    • https://twitter.com/TheRealJeromeS Jerome S.

Why would you want Cervelli? Gross.

    • Bob Stone

I second that thought. I’m used to having a great catcher for 56 years – Yogi Berra, Elston Howard, John Blanchard (best backup catcher ever), Thurman Munson and Jorge Posada.

I want to see a “cheapie” HR by Jeter.

  • swishers fauxhawk

Ah yes, the magically expanding strikezone.

  • Mojo

    So what’s Lester’s pitch limit? 115-120? 2-4 innings left… Argh

    • mbonzo

1 if the Yankees can get some hits out of Swisher Jones and Monty.

    • tom

Not unless everybody starts first-pitch swinging. One more patient inning and he’d be close to removal; two is the over at this point.

      • Mojo

Is there anything more painful than working the pitch count and not seeing the results plastered on the scoreboard? Oy vey.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

How come Derek’s not running? Saltalamacia is behind the plate.

    • Jetrer

Salty’s not too shabby, 31% CS, and Lester is tough to steal on, 44% CS against

  • Sarah

Lester at 91 pitches. Good job!

  • Kostas

Granderson just looked stupid in that AB…. #fail

  • swishers fauxhawk

I’m wicked psyched to be heeh. You guys ready to rent some cahs?

  • Greg

He’s doing exactly what CC did in game 1. High pitch count, a bunch of hits, but few runs.

  • Cy Pettitte

92 pitches through 4 and only 1 run. that’s amazing.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Here it comes…

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I thought that was ten rows back off the bat.

  • Chen Meng Wang

    …AJ…please I’m having a really good day…please don’t ruin it…

  • nedro

    Done. Pull him now!

    • Bob Stone

      Nedro – You were right!

  • Mojo

Beginning of the end for AJ Burnett.

  • blazing fastball

how predictable can you get AJ? the usual 4th inning collapse

  • Manny

    here we go…

  • Mykey

    Cue meltdown?

  • Karl Krawfid

    Fun while it lasted.

  • Monteroisdinero

Risp failure + implosion factor=weakening of stomach lining and rise in blood pressure

  • Mojo

So who’s going to hit the HR? Ortiz? I’ll get flashy and put my money on Crawford.

    • Mojo

Haha, whoops. What I meant to say was Pedroia AND Crawford. My bad. My bad.

  • Esteban

Oh well, those 3 innings were nice.

  • swishers fauxhawk

Even a blind monkey could have seen that coming.

  • Greg

    Not yet implosion. CLose

  • Cy Pettitte

    /meltdown

knew it was too good to be true.

  • pop up teixeira

    and here we go…

  • Bob Stone

We all knew it was too good to last.

  • Chen Meng Wang

FUCK WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE THE RATFACE FUCK. WHY?!

  • Mykey

    Christ.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Saw that from a mile away…

  • Kostas

and now the meltdown begins. strike up the bullpen.

  • Monteroisdinero

    Fall behind in the count

    fall behind in the game

  • Jetrer

well, 3 good innings far exceeded my expectations anyways

  • Greg

Not yet. Only when he gives up 5 or more.

    • Tom

“Only when he gives up 5 or more.”

A technicality. It’s now an implosion in its early stages.

  • mbonzo

So apparently when AJ gives up runs he’s imploding.

    • nedro

      I know, I know, it’s only a 1 run lead, but where there’s smoke…

  • nedro

Just when he delivered that, I’m thinking, his mechanics are falling apart again, he’s letting his hands drop behind him, and BOOM. Thanks AJ, Thanks a lot.

  • your mom

    Fuck AJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • RayFo

If you are going to give up the lead it’s always best to give it up to the most detestable of the Red Sox. I salute you AJ.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

So yeah, let’s just go ahead and take AJ out of the rotation.

  • Matt

You can’t expect to win a game in Fenway Park scoring only 1 run against this lineup?

With Lester’s pitch count elevated, I’d hope that they’d be able to score some more runs before this one is over. If not, it’s hard to blame AJ unless he gives up a few more.

    • Tom

“…it’s hard to blame AJ unless he gives up a few more.”

When in doubt, always blame AJ. He will know why.

  • Pat D

    Sigh.

  • ItsATarp

2 Runs whatever. Comeon AJ gives us 3 more shut out innings and we’ll forgive you

  • Chen Meng Wang

Do you guys think that maybe, just maybe, that AJ can put that homer behind him and give us another strong inning or two?

    • Mariano’s Pimp Hand

      I assume you are kidding…

      • Chen Meng Wang

        /ultimate optimist…

    • Jetrer

past experience with AJ would indicate otherwise, but here’s to hoping

    • nedro

      This is me, laughing.

  • Sheepmeister

My issue with all of this is it seems like Girardi is surprised every time this happens, and by the time they get someone ready in the bullpen, its 6 runs. This is why AJ is no better than a long man out of the bullpen anymore.

  • Monteroisdinero

Ortiz putting on a show for little leaguers everywhere running down the line.

  • Kostas

So that is a lot of money to pay a pitching coach (forget the money being wasted on AJ) to get three innings of what should be normal performance from a pitcher.

  • blazing fastball

What’s with this “his stuff is too good…” bullshit

    • AaronGuielWithASmile

This has always been one of my biggest pet peeves.

I don’t care how hard your fastball goes or how sharp your curve breaks. If you have no idea where your pitches are going, they aren’t great.

  • mbonzo

AJ still looks great. He hit the corner perfectly with the first strike to Pedroia but clearly missed his spot with the next pitch. Seriously loving this start.

  • JB

    and no outs..

  • Mojo

So what’s this going to come down to? AJ imploding or RISPFail? Right now I’d say RISPFail, hoping that AJ can maybe muster up another 3 innings of one run ball.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Maybe no meltdown.

  • Monteroisdinero

Crawford sucks when there are more than 5,000 people at a game.

    • Mojo

Hahahaha. I’d say the same for Teixera, but make up the total to 20K…

      • Mojo

        but * up the…

  • your mom

Carl Crawford doing his best to make AJ look good.

    • Sarah

Wouldn’t it just figure that Crawford can hit CC and Hughes but not AJ?

  • Karl Krawfid

    Shocking.

  • Chen Meng Wang

shocked…he rebounded and got three straight outs.

  • alexh

whats worse: AJ stinking it up the rest of september or him having 1 or 2 “quality” outings to get him into the playoff rotation???

    • Guest

Game 2 of the 2009 ALDS, ALCS, and World Series say hello.

We want AJ to turn it around. If he can be “good AJ” for the playoffs, that only helps in the drive for 28.

      • pat

He was pretty shitty in his other playoff starts.

  • Greg

That’s why I told you to wait on calling it an implosion.

    • mbonzo

He maintained his delivery and is much more consistent with his control today. Even if the Pedroia AB was his worst so far, he still hit 3 of his spots, he didn’t get the call on the 2 pitches down in the zone. Going 3-0 when you don’t get calls is different from when AJ typically walks a batter.

  • RCA

Gotta give credit to AJ for recovering after that HR by CUNT sucker PEDroia. Now can we get some runs please?

  • ItsATarp

How bout we give this motherfucker some run support?

  • Bob Stone

O don’t know why because experience tells me otherwise. But I was really hoping for a 1-0 Yankees victory tonight.

  • nedro

Hang on. Gotta go pour a shot for this…

  • Karl Krawfid

Cervelli acting like a D-Bag on the bench.

  • Cy Pettitte

they better make this Lester’s last inning.

  • Monteroisdinero

And Peedy gets the W for Lestuh. So gritty.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

AJ pitches well, bats go to sleep. Bleh.

  • Matt

The difference in this game right now is the inability to get a runner in from 3rd base with less than 2 outs. Always seems to end up that way at some point in the game.

  • alexh

    Robbie Cano.
    Red Sox Killer.

  • swishers fauxhawk

    Scorched.

  • Cy Pettitte

Robbie is a doubles machine. that was some piece of hitting.

  • Bob Stone

Crawford has been a horrible Red Sox. The local Boston sports talk radio stations are all abuzz with talk of trading him.

He was excellent in Tampa Bay but I thought 7 years $142 million was way too long and way too much money.

His deal was almost as bad, it actually could be worse, than the J.D. Drew deal. Time will tell.

    • JobaWockeeZ

But JD Drew was a good player so the comparison doesn’t work.

  • teddy

    nice cano

  • Esteban

Cano loves hitting against the Red Sox.

  • Roland Deschain

That ball was crushed. Now get that runner home and make this Lester’s last inning.

  • RCA

And that is the BEST 2B in BASEBALL with the sweetest swing crushing Lestah!!

  • Jetrer

    Red Sox Killer
    (aka – the anti-Tex)

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

That’s way gone in Yankee Stadium.

  • Mojo

Fuck it. I’m looking away whenever Teixera’s at bat now. Actually, I’m looking away for the entire inning. Maybe I’m bad luck. Maybe he can’t handle my intense judgement and unsettling expectations. You win, MT25. My attention is officially diverted from your bat.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Cano is a man.

  • mbonzo

Takes high? The ball was in the dirt Michael.

  • Monteroisdinero

Still a battle of grit vs greet. Work that pitch count Swish

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

Please, for the love of God don’t bunt

    • The Big City of Dreams

      *pats on shoulder*

      It’s going to be ok

  • Tom Zig

    Patience please

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

    What the fuck?

  • boogie down

    WHAT THE FUCK?!

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

  • mbonzo

    UHM Swisher. wtf?

  • Jetrer

    WTF is that

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

What the fucking fuck was that?

  • Roland Deschain

Great strategy. Get that run home so bunt him over to 3rd.

  • swishers fauxhawk

    That. Was. Fucking. Stupid.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Why Swish.

    WHY

  • alexh

    Michael Kay… speaking the truth

  • Cy Pettitte

WHY ARE YOU BUNTING? WHY WHY WHY?

  • Pat D

    What the flying fuck?

  • Chen Meng Wang

WHY THE FUCK WHERE YOU BUNTING SWISHER?!?!?!? I’M GOING TO KILL YOU GIRARDI!

    • Jetrer

      thats definitely not Girardi’s call

  • Greg

I think Swisher did that on his own.

  • Kostas

Jesus Christ… this fucking team has its head up it ass

  • RCA

That is the DUMBEST SHIT I HAVE EVER SEEN!!! What the FUCK WAS THAT. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? That is not Girardi’s fault.

  • teddy

typical yankee baseball against the redsox, stupid

    • Kostas

      Yep… meltdown

  • JobaWockeeZ

If we’ve learned anything the past 2 games is that Pedroia loves high fastballs. Why you fucking give him one is beyond me.

  • The Big City of Dreams

    This is my house

    /deionsanders’d

  • Monteroisdinero

    Beyond idiocy

  • #24!!!!

Kay: angry with a bunt. WHAT!

  • Cy Pettitte

good job by the Cap’n calling him out.

    • Sarah

+1. Swish with the brain fart.

  • Roland Deschain

Swisher’s a bumbling fool. He’s an idiot. How can a major league player not know how many outs there are?

    • Pasqua

Not excusing him, but I bet that it happens A LOT more than you think.

  • Mojo

WHAT THE FU&%?!?!?!?! A SAC BUNT WITH ONE OUT?!?!?! HOLY SH#T! Someone blow my brains out. I’m done.

  • Jetrer

Even Jeter thought that was a dumb bunt
    that’s saying something

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

This is how I feel right now:

    http://i565.photobucket.com/al.....1299617938

  • Karl Krawfid

Jeter should be the last one talking to Swish though.

  • swishers fauxhawk

Swisher thought Cano was the leadoff hitter. Inexcusable.

  • Mykey

    No excuse for that. None.

  • tom

He had to have lost track of outs. There’s no other explanation

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

If he forgot how many outs there were, just take him out of the game. That’s inexcusable.

    • Cuso

      But, but, it’s Swish!

      You know! Everyone’s favorite fuck-up?

  • boogie down

Wow, I really think he forgot how many outs there were.

  • alexh

way to give lester another inning swish

  • trueblue

    Girardi is a fool

    • Jetrer

? what did he do now???

    • Greg

      That wasnt Girardi.

    • Sarah

That wasn’t Joe. That was all Swish.

      • trueblue

After the 1st bluff there should have been a clear message NOT TO DO THAT..

  • RCA

I can’t believe what I just fucking saw. This fool thought there was no body out. DID YOU SEE TEX DO HIS USUAL NOTHING AT BAT?!?! Unbelievable, we gave them a god damn out.

  • nedro

I’m thinking, he thought there was no outs, or one?

    #brain fart

  • Roland Deschain

But this was all brought about by the Girardi philosophy of bunting with your best and hottest hitters. Girardi needs to dictate what Francona does, DON’T BUNT EVER! How many times have the Sox bunted this series and played for one run? They don’t do that because Francona’s not an idiot.

    • Greg

      I hope you’re kidding.

    • Jetrer

how many times has Girardi called for a bunt this series?? I can’t think of any sac bunts that were called from the bench.

  • JobaWockeeZ

Stop rolling over for the fucking Sox please.

  • mbonzo

Swisher needs Jesus to save him.

  • alexh

    here comes “Monty”
    -Joe G

  • Ivan

    Lets go Jesus…

  • swishers fauxhawk

Let’s go Jesus. Yankee Classic time.

  • Cy Pettitte

come on Jesus, fuck shit up.

  • Esteban

Time to work your magic Heyzeus. Turn water into wine, etc.

  • Monteroisdinero

    110 pitches through 4 &2/3 and 1 run.

  • blazing fastball

    will Jeus save Swish?

  • Mojo

Goddamnit. Stop putting Jesus up with RISP. Too much to handle!

  • your mom

Okay Jesus. 3rd times a charm,

  • Chen Meng Wang

If we don’t score this inning/lose this game I blame it on nick swisher bunting.

  • Sarah

Poor Jesus. Every time he’s up, runners on and 2 outs.

  • Kostas

    Montero is just overmatched….AAAA

    • Cy Pettitte

oh well, we tried. might as well release him.

      • Kostas

just is not impressive… no need to get sarcastic about the situation.

        • Jetrer

          “just is not impressive”
what were you expecting from a 21 yr old rookie making his debut in a somewhat high pressure game against a premiere starting pitcher?

      • RCA

Or trade him for a player to be named, or a set of contacts for Swisher to see the GOD DAMN SCOREBOARD!!!

    • pat

      Lol.

  • Pat D

You know what? I’m done here for tonight. I really can’t stand this site during games like this because everyone loses their fucking minds. I do that enough on my own when I watch these games, so I don’t need the added aggravation.

See everyone tomorrow when things are back to normal.

    • Bob Stone

      HeyPat,

      Don’t leave.

There are still plenty of us here with some degree of sanity. I think the Yanks have a good chance. Lester is almost done on pitch count and AJ looks way better than usual. And . . . the Yankees bullpen is far superior to that of the BoSox.

The Yanks can win this one.

      Bob

    • RCA

I love this site during games because it shows how other people are even more angry and reactionary than I am.

  • alexh

Jesus savior commenter should be banned

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

That inning was full of fail.

  • swishers fauxhawk

    Good thing we bunted.

  • teddy

i like to thank swisher for being pathetic tonight

  • Mojo

Ok, I’ll be honest. I’m very much frustrated.

  • RCA

Well Jesus, this ain’t AAA and Jon Lester ain’t no Jo-Jo Reyes. Welcome to the Big Leagues Rookie.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

This game is raising my blood pressure

    • Mojo

My heart was just catapulted out of my chest

  • your mom

Okay Jesus. 3rd times a charm.

  • Karl Krawfid

    This sucks man :(

  • Greg

Actually Nick Swisher has failed in the teo golden opportunities that the Yankees have had. He struck out with 2nd and 3rd and no out in the first.

    • Monteroisdinero

He should have bunted there in the first. lol

      • Greg

Fly out or ground out at the least.

    • RayFo

You must have a scrapbook made up with newspaper clippings of Yankee loses.

    • King of the Troglodytes

Swish likes disappearing in the big games. Look at his pathetic playoff stats.

  • Monteroisdinero

risp failure + brain failure + AJ = Gritty win if we get it

  • ItsATarp

Well i’ll be honest here and say Jesus has hurt us this so far since i think he’s been up with RISP every AB thus far.

    • Greg

All with two outs though so it doesnt count in my book.

Swisher has been the goat so far tonight.

      • ItsATarp

        True

  • blazing fastball

Nick was definitely a dick this time

    • nedro

      Is that the footlong?

      • Dale Mohorcic

        and then-some.

  • nedro

Strikeout, Flyout, Groundout. What a fucking scrub.

  • RayFo

    RISP God’s hate Jesus.

  • alexh

Montero is below replacement level now

  • Roland Deschain

Girardi has instilled a philosophy in these guys that bunting is ok for guys like Swisher and Jeter and Granderson even if they’re our hottest hitters. That’s the problem here. How many times would Ortiz be bunting there? None, because Francona has the exact opposite philosophy. Girardi needs to change this.

    • pat

Yes it’s fucking Girardi’s fault Swisher forgot how many outs there were.

      • trueblue

After the bluff on teh 1st pitch THompson and Girardi should have made it clear the situation. That was inexcusable by all parties

      • Roland Deschain

Not saying that Swisher was stupid there. I’m saying the whole bunting philosophy is stupid. Swisher shouldn’t be thinking bunt there regardless of how many outs there are.

    • AaronGuielWithASmile

Blaming Girardi for that is a huge, huge, huge stretch.

Comparing Ortiz to Swisher is a straw man as well. A-Rod would be a more fair comparison (and you never see A-Rod bunt.)

    • Jetrer

Jeter and Granderson both were bunters long before being managed by Girardi
Swisher is just a fucking moron

  • teddy

montero 3 at bats have been solid

  • alexh

    Nova 2011 > Hughes 2010?

    • http://deleted Total Dominication

      hahahahahahhahahaa

      • JobaWockeeZ

1.9 fWAR for Nova and 2.4 fWAR for Hughes. but Nova was sent down and won’t catch up to the innings that Hughes pitched. But it’s teh franchise and Nova is the worst starter ever.

  • Esteban

Less RISPfail would be nice, eventually.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

Nova should be in the ROY discussion, sure, but it would be kind of a joke if he won it.

    • nedro

      But heez got MORE WIIINZ!!!!

    • RCA

No matter what happens, this has been a great start by AJ so far. He literally has made two mistakes so far. WE HAVE TO GET SOME RUNS.

  • pat

Lol, fucking Giants can’t even fall on a fumble right.

    • Mykey

By Giants do you mean the practice squad? Well then yes.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

They don’t even mention Ackley. Haha.

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

Oh fuck that would’ve been so awesome.

  • Cy Pettitte

oh come, give Teix that one

  • JobaWockeeZ

That was out, fuck the Boston paid umps.

  • Chen Meng Wang

    Terrible call ump.

    • Chen Meng Wang

I take it back AJ did miss the bag.

  • alexh

OH WHAT A PLAY BY TEIXIERA!

Cano had it all the way

    • Bob Stone

      Probably.

  • Esteban

    Oh AJ, jumped too high.

  • mbonzo

    AJ imploding at first base.

  • Sheepmeister

This game is starting to remind me of the White Sox game earlier this year when AJ twirled his semi-annual gem and they lost.

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

    Should’ve been Cano.

  • swishers fauxhawk

Oh for Christ sakes, watch where you’re jumping AJ.

  • Esteban

And yeah, Teix went too far

  • Tom

Anyone else notice that AJ has a little more twist in his delivery with no men on base as compared to the 1st and 2nd?

  • Karl Krawfid

    Damn AJ throw was high.

  • whozat

It’s amazing how people re-cast reality to be what they want it to be. Suzyn Waldman just said that Hughes lost velo last night as the game went on — despite us knowing that this is false.

This, of course, is reason to put him in the bullpen, because we SAWWWWW how GOOD he could be there, and yeah whatever AJ has been a fucking wreck for months and months, but we KNOW Hughes can be so good in the bullpen!!!!!!! He HAS to go there!!!!

Good god, I hope they get a new broadcast team next year…

    • Tom

I thought I read on this board last night that Hughes did lose velo as the game went on.

      • Jetrer

he did lose some velo as the game went on
        93-95 fastball in first
        90-93 fastball in sixth

      • nedro

Not to the extent where it would headline tonight’s broadcast.

    • nedro

In fairness, everyone in the YES booth was saying the same thing @ the beginning of the game. Raised my eyebrows, too. And they call themselves journalists?

  • mbonzo

That was a strike for Montero

  • Sheepmeister

so which game finished first, this one, or the angels mariners one?

  • Greg

AJ to this point has pitched much better than Hughes had.

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

      Do you really think so?

    • Tom

Normally, even when he can’t command them (not a minor point, of course) his pitches have more snap, crackle, and pop than do Hughes’s.

  • Esteban

5IP 2 R is better than anybody expected right?

    • Jetrer

      hell yes

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

AJ pitched better through 5 then Lester did.

  • flamingo

Heh. Never would have though AJ would last longer than Lester would.

(True, he might not come out again, but knowing Girardi, he will.)

  • CBean

so just got home but AJ, surprisingly good so far? despite the losing?

  • RCA

I’m a fan of Aceves, but he throws too many strikes. Time to take advantage of that.

  • mbonzo

    Is Martin wearing bowling shoes?

  • Roland Deschain

Now bunt that runner over to 2nd then bunt him to 3rd. It’s the Girardi way.

  • Tom

If there’s a just baseball God, he’ll let the Yanks tee-off on Aceves.

  • Nefarious

    That’s why you bunt

  • Cy Pettitte

    god damn you Nunie

  • RCA

That’s why Girardi bunts, I don’t wanna hear anyone get mad at Girardi for not bunting there.

  • Jason

WHY THE FUCK R U NOT BUNTING!!

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

    Fuckity fuck fucking shit.

  • Mojo

haha. I totally saw that coming.

  • Tom

I can’t believe lester threw 50 pitches in the 1st and is in line for the win. This is unreal. They need alex back big time.

  • RCA

That’s why Girardi bunts, I don’t wanna read anyone get mad at Girardi for not bunting there.

    • Matt

There is a huge difference between bunting the #9 hitter who has been struggling lately, and bunting Curtis Granderson.

    • http://deleted Total Dominication

      We’re not.

  • your mom

    Fuck nunez

  • mbonzo

The only time they don’t bunt they gidp. It wasn’t the right thing to do there anyway, what are the chances Nunez was gonna get doubles up.

  • flamingo

This game has a lot of weird repeats: Jeter coming up, no one on, two outs, Montero coming up, runners in scoring position on, two outs…

    • Nefarious

      and the repeats continue

  • pop up teixeira

Now that Lester is finally gone, Montero will do something positive.

    • pat

Montero did have a double off Aceves back in ST.

  • mbonzo

Feeling a homerun from the Grandyman here.

  • Tom

What this team needs is not so much Montero as a healthy and hitting ARod. His very presence in the lineup changes the correlation of forces. Have they said anything about when he’s due back?

  • swishers fauxhawk

    “Fallacy of the predetermined outcome”

    DRINK!

  • Mojo

Nice to see that Jeter continues to show up. Now if only someone would wake up Tex…

  • RCA

    Please Jeter steal.

  • Tom

This is where Grandy can help out his MVP chances

  • your mom

    swing away, swing away!!!!!

  • Tom

    wow

  • Nefarious

    Let’s go Tex

  • IRF

Alright Tex. Time to get up

  • Monteroisdinero

    The crowd is comatose.

  • Mojo

    Not watching.

  • RCA

Return of the King…of the POP UPS!!

  • Ivan

    Hit a Homer Tex.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    That sounded like it hurt

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Of course…

  • The Big City of Dreams

    Motherfucker

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

    Oh shit.

  • Roland Deschain

That bastard did that on purpose. That fucking traitor.

    • http://deleted Total Dominication

      no

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

      With a curveball?

  • boogie down

    Oh boy.

  • Cy Pettitte

    holy ow. fucking Red Sox.

    Make the pay Robbie.

  • Greg

    Ow

  • Kostas

Fucking bullshit… someone for the Red Sox better get hit…

    • Jetrer

why? he just did the Yankees a big favor.

      • Kostas

        Not really

        • Jetrer

you wouldn’t prefer to have Cano up with the bases loaded against RHP than Tex with 1st and 2nd vs. RHP??
that’s a no-brainer, as long as Tex doesn’t have any long term damage as a result

    • Monteroisdinero

      it was a curveball-no intention.

      • Kostas

Whatever dude… Yankees have been the bitches to the Sox for years in taking bean balls and never retaliate… This is not a high road they need to take. Drill someone in the head.

        • Jetrer

that was not a bean ball, and clearly wasn’t intentional

  • mbonzo

    THIS IS NOT GOOD

  • Tom Zig

at least it was behind the knee

  • Chen Meng Wang

I was just about to say “Anything but a pop up tex,” so I guess I have to take that.

  • pat

Hahah not that often you se a #2 hitter IBB’d to face the #3.

  • King of the Troglodytes

Brilliant move by the Sox. I’d rather pitch to Private Pop-up myself.

  • RCA

Hit him in the perfect spot. Right on the knee.

  • Tom

Guess its better than a pop up to 1st.

  • pop up teixeira

The right man in the right situation. Come on Cano!

  • IRF

    He’s still faster than Posada

  • RayFo

Exactly the guy I want for this at bat. Come on Cano.

  • Monteroisdinero

    Tex’s knee popped it up!

  • Esteban

Best guy to have up there now.

  • mbonzo

    Comeon Cano, you got this.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

Cano’s been nuts with the bases loaded this year

  • Chen Meng Wang

Come on Robbie, do something big.

  • Tom

JESUS .439???? with the bases loaded!?!?

  • nedro

Cmon, robbie, don’t make Tex run too hard, put one out.

  • mbonzo

    Babip strikes again.

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

    Fucking Babip!

  • Cy Pettitte

    fucking hell, this is ridiculous

  • ItsATarp

Why can’t our hard hit balls find a goddamn hole to go through

  • Chen Meng Wang

    RISPBABIPFAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Greg

BaBip again. Main difference between Yankees and Red Sox this season

  • Nefarious

    Cursed BABIP gods

  • Ivan

    ugh….

  • flamingo

    AWWWW

  • Karl Krawfid

    We are being trolled today.

  • Sarah

What happened to BABIP? I thought we were ok again…

  • teddy

    unbelieveable, crushed that pitched .

  • Roland Deschain

And more runners left in RISP. That’s what will lose us this ballgame, not AJ.

  • your mom

Fuck this offense! Piece of shit!

    • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Are you really blaming Cano for that?

      • your mom

Did I specifically say Cano? NO!

        • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Then what are you blaming the offense for. They haven’t scored, but they’ve had lots of bad breaks.

          • your mom

Swisher K, Swisher bunt. Ok, fuck Swisher!

  • Cuso

    Coxsackie!!

  • Roland Deschain

Have someone warming up now Girardi. And have a tight leash for jesus’s sake. Don’t let it get to 5-1 before bringing in Wade.

  • Matt

How can anyone watching these games legitimately think that Boston is better?

I don’t think I have ever seen a team get as many breaks as they’ve gotten in these recent series against the Yankees. The Yankees have outplayed them almost every night on the field, yet are getting the most horrible luck you could imagine.

    • Matt

Remember the Sunday night game a few weeks ago? 2 runners on, 1 out vs Beckett, and Swisher crushes the ball 415 feet into the triangle in right center for a flyout. The ridiculousness of these games is almost unfathomable.

    • JobaWockeeZ

Because there’s a thing called statistics which is better than the memory failing and biased influenced eyes of humanity.

      • Matt

Except the statistics show that the Yankees are the better team as well.

The only thing that most people base their analysis on is the fact that the Red Sox are 11-3 against the Yankees. Watching these games, it’s obvious that it’s hard to put much stock into that record unless you see how close these games have been.

        • JobaWockeeZ

No, it has them dead even. Except one team is playing dead when they face the other team so I’m inclined to not call them the better team when they are equally in the metrics.

          • Matt

Dead? The Yankees have a ton of runners on base every night and are hitting balls right at guys.

  • Greg

Its a carbon copy of game 1 only its reversed to the Sox.

  • Chen Meng Wang

Girardi, really, sixth inning, 3-4-5 up, your bringing AJ back out…I’m really fuckin nervous about this.

  • Sheepmeister

at least montero can’t come up to bat next inning with 2 outs AND runners on base.

  • Mojo

So much for not watching. At least he got on base though… Baby steps, baby steps. Will A-Rod answer the RISPFailures?

  • Tom

Much much more rotation in his body…..That front leg is crossing the rubber again. NOT GOOD AJ

  • Kibbitty

Pedroia looks even creepier without the beard.

  • JobaWockeeZ

I wonder how long the “give Pedroia as many high pitches until we lose” game lasts.

  • Zach

THis loss will NOT be on AJ. Our offense and manager failed.

    • http://deleted Total Dominication

manager? is that what they call the god of babip?

    • Greg

      How did the manager fail?

    • Jetrer

      what did Girardi do??

  • Roland Deschain

Throwing high fastballs to a high fastball hitter, same thing Hughes did. Now throw one in Big Papi’s wheelhouse.

  • Cy Pettitte

stop being so complimentary to PEDroia, fucking hell, am i watching the NESN broadcast by accident?

    • http://deleted Total Dominication

      it was an awesome slide

  • your mom

Don’t tell me we’re going to lose this game single handedly to this midget bearded gnome.

  • Tom

    GOD DAMMIT!!!!!

  • Roland Deschain

BULLSHIT CALL! THAT WAS A STRIKE! AJ’s done his job.

  • Cy Pettitte

    wow AJ getting squeezed, ridiculous

  • Ivan

Get the fuck outta here!!!!!! That is Bull shit.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Fucking ump

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    Wowwww AJ got squeezed there

Good effort. He should still be pulled from the rotation, but it was a good effort.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Bullshit man.

  • Matt

Lester has gotten that pitch to opposite handed batters ALL NIGHT. And the Fenway Squeeze is on…

  • swishers fauxhawk

    Meh, that was outside.

  • RCA

You know what…5 1/3 IP, 2 ER. I would’ve gave my left kidney for that start by AJ. For the first time in forever, I cannot blame him for the game he pitches.

  • Javkei Igavano

    Agree with AJ. Bullshit.

  • your mom

    Boone = white flag

  • mbonzo

    Boone Logan again. WTF man?

  • ItsATarp

Hughes when he pitched worse had a longer lease than this BS.

    • Jetrer

mainly because the bullpen was short last night, and AJ has a reputation for quick implosions in the later innings

    • AaronGuielWithASmile

…have you ever seen AJ pitch with men on base before?

  • Ivan

Alright Logan, you either gonna be water or Gasoline.

  • Esteban

    LOL Crawford.

  • Roland Deschain

Hey, somebody finally figured out that Crawford can’t catch up to that fastball. Only took 2 and a half games.

  • RainDelayed

If my computations are correct Red Sox hitters’ babip is .250 while Yanks’ is over .400.
It’s not BABIP luck. Maybe LOB% luck rather?

  • Zooboy

Is Proctor on the roster now? He should be good for what, 100, 125 pitches tonight?

    • Tom

      HAHA…wrong joe is managing

  • IRF

That’s the Carl Crawford 28 other teams have faced

  • RCA

That was great pitching by Logan. Too bad he couldn’t do that yesterday, but Crawford is NOT Ellsbury. Man has he been a bust, is his OBP still under .300?

  • your mom

Crawford and Lackey’s contract >>>> LOL

Arod and AJ’s contract >>>> fuck us

  • mbonzo

    MVP

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Grandy Man!!!

  • Yankeefan91 Arod Fan

    grandersonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

  • Roland Deschain

Granderson’s not a good defender, UZR says so.

    • Nefarious

      UZR doesn’t lie… does it?

  • RCA

WHAT. A. FUCKING. CATCH. UZR can suck it.

  • Nefarious

    Granderson!!!

  • Jetrer

    Granderson!!!!
that means Yanks are going to score because of momentum now right?

  • Karl Krawfid

    Oh my lord. Grandy.

  • mike c

granderson is a good hitter, but terrible in the outfield

  • Ivan

    Amazing..just amazing..

  • Mickey Scheister

    Fuck you, UZR!!

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

    Grandy makes me randy.

  • MannyGeee

Wow… Hope Grandy did not get too hurt on that… Balls out play.

  • pop up teixeira

This is when the yanks will score

  • Jetrer

so was this performance by AJ enough to keep him in the rotation??

    • Nefarious

Maybe, since Hughes looked the opposite of dominant last two starts

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Greg’s Theory of Momentum test take one.

  • Mojo

    This game is absolutely killer.

  • mbonzo

Babip so far in this series
    Yankees- .333
    Red Sox- .377

  • Cy Pettitte

the fuck you looking at Swish?

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    That was low

  • Tom

    wow. nice pitch.

  • Mojo

Haven’t really paid attention, but has Swish hit the Red Sox this series/season?

    • mbonzo

.245/.351/.327 this season v. Red Sox

      • Mojo

Meh. That’s what I thought. I don’t think Swish handles this kind of pressure very well. Knowing Swish, I think he gets into his head too much and pumps himself out of what makes him a good hitter.

  • MannyGeee

OK imma say it. AJ did enough to save his job tonight… Dude was on point.

    • Kiko Jones

Yes, he did. And like every other time AJ’s pitched great this season, the offense didn’t score or did so after he was pulled. Ugh.

  • Esteban

Safe to say the Yankees should have kept Aceves. At least the Yankees bullpen is still great, but the Sox bullpen wold be worse.

    • Ivan

Meh, Aceves is a dime of dozen, not to mention he is pitching over his head if you look at his FIP.

      • Esteban

I’m not saying the Yankees need him, but he’s certainly been useful for the Sox.

  • Esteban

OMG Andruw smiled. Burn the witch.

  • MannyGeee

Jesus is gonna have to get one into play this AB, right??

  • Sheepmeister

how many pitches has jones seen tonight, I feel like its at least 30 in 4 plate appearances.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Miguel Cabrera in Yankee Stadium?

    • Nefarious

      ???

      • Karl Krawfid

        If we win the Division.

        He owns CC also.

  • Esteban

    Argh just missed it/

  • flamingo

    This at bat is fantastic.

  • Mojo

Fuck. I don’t remember Ace throwing mid 90s. Damn. Too bad. I was always a fan of his.

    • Evan3457

Told ya so. Well, not ya, personally. But RAB, in the Aceves thread.

  • MannyGeee

Wow. This may be more pItches than andruw has seen in all of august right?

    • Tom

More pitches than he’s seen from a right hander in all of August!

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Beastly AB

  • Jetrer

    great AB

  • Esteban

Andruw Jones doesn’t get cheated at the plate. He swings to hurt the ball.

  • IRF

Andruw Jones has had a crazy good game

  • mbonzo

Way to go Jones. I say you pinch run Gardner here.

    • Sarah

Why on earth is Dickerson pinch running?!?!?!

  • Mojo

For tonight’s ABs alone, Jones has earned a permanent spot in this lineup I think.

  • Jetrer

bit suprised no PH here, but I kinda like it

    • mike_h

yea this is the spot for Posada

    • Roland Deschain

I think they’ll save Chavez for Nunez. Montero better than Jorge.

      • Jetrer

not against RHP, but I still kinda like leaving Montero in

  • blazing fastball

    We need a miracle Jesus

  • Esteban

    Straight into the fire.

  • Roland Deschain

Jesus got on base! Good job, kid.

  • IRF

YOU DONT FUCK WITH THE JESUS

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    You don’t hit teh Jesus.

  • Cy Pettitte

HE HIT JESUS? what the fuck.

  • swishers fauxhawk

Eternal damnation for Aceves. No one hits Jesus and lives to tell about it.

  • MannyGeee

Wow… Two hit batsmen by Ace tonight…. Not like him

  • Tom

    welcome to 1st kid…

  • mbonzo

Montero is a cheater. ESPN’s headline tomorrow.

  • JobaWockeeZ

I’ll take it, good job Jesus even if you didn’t do anything.

  • Mojo

    GET THOSE NAILBREAKERS!!!!!!!

  • Roland Deschain

Another man in RISP. Can we fail again in this spot? Will Martin forget how many outs there are and bunt? Chavez will PH for Nunez if Martin doesn’t hit into a DP.

  • mbonzo

See, if Gardner was pinch running for Jones, Dickerson could have pinch run for Jesus.

    • Sarah

I did not understand the Dickerson for Jones swap.

    • Jetrer

definitely some odd decisions being made this inning

  • fresco

while its been an underwhelming night, jesus has the look of a pro. the moment doesnt seem to be to big for him. he certainly seems comfortable at the plate alot of good swings.

  • your mom

Good move by Francona. Bard will probably overpower Martin and Nunie. Hope not though.

    • mbonzo

Eric Chavez v. Bard me thinks.

  • MannyGeee

    I fucking hate daniel bard…

  • Esteban

Does Russel have muscle? We shall see

    • Jetrer

      3/4 Muscle

  • Greg

    That’s nasty

  • Ivan

wow, Dickerson gotta be on 3rd no.

  • Tom

    yeeea baby!!!!

  • Roland Deschain

    RUSSELL!!!!!!!!

  • swishers fauxhawk

    Jesus with that hustle.

  • mbonzo

    MARTIN I LOVE YOU!

  • Jetrer

    Russell!!!!!!

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Fuck and yes.

  • Cy Pettitte

    RUSSELL!!!!!!!

    Jesus scores!

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    RUSSELL!!!!

  • JobaWockeeZ

I’ve witnessed Jesus’ first run! And good job Martin, lol.

  • Greg

    HE’S IN

  • Rainbow Connection

    Yay.

  • Sarah

Russell with the muscle! And Jesus has wheelz!

  • Tom

Oh snap! Montero clapped at home….Lackey is going to charge the plate!

    • Zooboy

Saltalamachia needs to school him on proper baseball etiquette.

      • RCA

He would qualify under the “young, Latin ballplayer” criteria.

  • Eirias

    Russell Fucking Martin!

  • Esteban

    YES COLTRANE!

  • JFH

    Hell yeah!

  • pop up teixeira

    about fuckin time

  • jon

lol i thought jesus was going to get thrown out by a mile just based on what i know about his speed

  • Ivan

    HUGE!!!!!!!

  • Sheepmeister

unless nunie does some weird double play thing, montero will get a 5th AB.

  • mbonzo

Zombie wants the Red Sox brains!

  • boogie down

Ya know, Montero didn’t look to bad going 1st-to-home there. Certainly not a burner, but he wasn’t as slow as molasses, which is what many have made him out to be.

    • Monteroisdinero

      weight loss.

  • Rainbow Connection

    Eric Chavez = Sox Killer

  • Cy Pettitte

Chavy! so clutch, so so so clutch. love this guy.

  • Jetrer

ballsy decision by Girardi starting the runners, I like the aggressiveness

  • Roland Deschain

Chavez has been clutch this series. Definitely wanna DH him against righties going forward.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    I love Eric Chavez.

    • Sarah

Me too. So much. If he only hits against the Sox and the Rangers all year then he’s worth every small cent.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

And so the turntables have … turned.

  • RayFo

Bard is really good but it seems like the Yankees have genuine success against him.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

    Zombieeeee.

  • Esteban

    Oh hell yes.

  • mbonzo

High-leverage managing kinda failed Francona tonight.

  • Mojo

    Heart. Attack.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Who’s the best setup guy in baseball?

    (hint: it’s not Daniel Bard.)

    • RCA

I think he wears high socks and the number 30.

    • fresco

      Who is david robertson?

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

we are quick, myself included to hate on Giradi for stupid moves….the hit and run and then bringing in Chavez were two brilliant moves…every now and then…

    • Roland Deschain

Hit and run was good. Bringing in Chavez for Nunez is a no brainer though.

      • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

I know its a no brainer…that said, Giradi doesnt always make it

  • brazilian fan

Close enough to be a strike.

You just hear it on Nesn

  • mbonzo

Holy cow, Granderson has a .377 OBP

    • http://deleted Total Dominication

      That’s what I said.

  • Greg

    Momentum test passed.

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

You’re definitely the most ridiculous person to ever walk this earth.

      • Greg

Hey you wanted to put it to the test.

  • jon

god i hate having to watch this on NESN

they do that pitch track and when AJ gets a called strike thats outside the zone they say blown call

right now they did it for jeters strike there and its outside, so they say its close enough to be a strike. Even though on their own pitch fx its not

    • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

if you have comcast…MLB network has Costas….much easier to deal with

      • Sarah

        For reals.

  • Ed

Wow. That Granderson catch and that Andruw Jones walk are why we got the lead right there

  • Karl Krawfid

    AAA Romine.

    • Cy Pettitte

      finally.

    • mbonzo

      Got a link?
I really doubt they’ll give him a whole new rotation to learn for just 5 games.

      • Jetrer

he’s caught most(if not all) of Scranton’s starters before, esp. Banuelos and Bettances

        • mbonzo

Thats true, but still about half of their pitchers he’s probably never caught. Seems off they’d make the move for only 5 games.

          • Jetrer

yeah, I don’t really see the point with just 5 games left, maybe just to reward him for a good season and let him get his feet wet there for next season
            no harm in it really

      • Karl Krawfid
  • jon

Ledger_Yankees Wow, Teixeira pulled out of the ballgame. #nyy

    wtf

    • Roland Deschain

      Hope it’s not serious.

    • Matt

Teixeira stayed in the game to play defense in the next half inning after he got hit. If it were something serious, they would have probably pulled him right away.

If he’s a little gimpy out there because it stiffens up on him, then it’s not too bad an idea to pull him when you get a lead and tighten up the defense. Also, maybe you can get some treatment on it right away and reduce the swelling so he can play tomorrow night as well.

Now that you have the lead, you wouldn’t want to lose this game because Teixeira doesn’t make some plays because his range is a little diminished because of the HBP.

  • pop up teixeira

    NOW KEEP THE LEAD!

  • swishers fauxhawk

    Come on Soriano.

  • JobaWockeeZ

So is it sucky Soriano or not sucky Soriano?

    • Jetrer

      its lucky Soriano

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Gardy-Grandy-Dickerson has to be like, the fastest OF in baseball.

  • Eirias

    Onto the Battle of So-Ro-Mo.

  • tom

I was thinking, after Andruw Jones’ epochal at-bat, that the Yankees had been doing so many things right tonight but just not getting any reward for them. Really nice to see it finally happen.

And, another chapter of YCPB: after all those earlier hits leading to just 1 run, they now got three runs on only 2. Hell, if Chavez had hit a sac fly, it could have been on 1.

  • Girardis Matchup Book

Watch out, Boston, time for the most expensive Seventh Inning Guy in baseball history.

  • mbonzo

    Gardner saving hits already.

  • Cy Pettitte

Gardy! Soriano owes Gardy a nice dinner

  • Esteban

    The RANGE

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Gold Glover.

    • Sarah

      Love. Nuthin’ but love.

  • JobaWockeeZ

Soriano is so fucking lucky Brett Gardner is his left fielder. And he probably thinks he’s so good for letting Gardner do all the work.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

So, Axisa, what does the game recap look like so far? Do you have the Yankees holding on for the victory?

  • Ivan

    Wow…Gardner defense is ridiculous.

    • Nefarious

He’s stealing all of Granderson’s UZR.

      • Cy Pettitte

UZR padder. he should leave some for Grandy.

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

    I heart this outfield

    • tom

+1 Even Swisher… yeah he makes some awkward looking plays butoverall he’s better than average.

Of course UZR has him as the best RF in baseball this year… which shows why the whole UZR one year sample size that ESPN is using to downgrade Grandy and pump up Ells is a bit absurd… (Even AGon’s #’s are significantly over his career avg)

  • mark

anyone think martin will get beaned for the hand clap when he touch the plate for the final run of the inning?

  • your mom

Jacoby is having a great year. Fuck him though!

  • jon

lol so NESN just reviewd that ball 4 on the pitch track

if its a strike the thing glows yellow

so of course it glows yellow and remmy says yep low ball four

    • Cy Pettitte

the graphics guy forgot to switch the pitch track from “Yankee zone” to “Sox zone”

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

    boom bitch

  • alexh

    finally a non-fastball to scutaro

  • Roland Deschain

Key to the game- Yankee Killer Marco Scuatro 0-4

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    7th Inning Guy.

  • Esteban

    Yeah Sori. Git’er done.

  • Cy Pettitte

    MFIKY’d

  • Eirias

    ?S?o? – Ro- Mo

    • Eirias

      HTML fail.

  • Champagne_whores

That hook by sori on scutero was sick.

  • Chen Meng Wang

Gardy for Gold Glove this year. If he doesn’t win it, I officially label the award a travesty.

    • http://deleted Total Dominication

Palmiero in 99? Jeter last year?

      • Chen Meng Wang

Haha I was half joking, seriously though, if he doesn’t win I give up on the award.

  • Simon

who is pitching Sunday? (going to that game)

    • Chen Meng Wang

      Either Garcia or Colon.

      • forensic

Garcia or Sabathia. Colon is going on Saturday. I would bet on Garcia with them giving Sabathia some extra rest after Tuesday’s long start.

        • Chen Meng Wang

          Makes sense.

  • mark

the only exclamation that should be used for this game is JESUS!!!

  • Esteban

That’s a nice AB there Gardy

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Steal a Base Brett.

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

time for Cano to go long

  • Esteban

That was a big cut there by Ribbinson

  • JobaWockeeZ

    Shake my head.

  • jon

    fucking gardner

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

    Damn.

  • Cy Pettitte

    why Brett why? ugh

  • Ivan

To be honest, I dont mind that really.

    • Mister Delaware

Well, I imagine you mind the result if not the attempt.

    • Sarah

It’s not the worst thing, but it would’ve been better if he’d actually gotten the steal.

  • Jetrer

could see that coming a mile away
Gardner is very bad at reading lefties

  • Mojo

    And the epic Brettslump continues…

    • Sarah

Not epic yet. He did have two hits in the last two games. He’s hanging in there.

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

bottom line…the bullpen does its job…yanks win

  • your mom

    That inning started off good. . . . . .

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

    lovin the New Era spots

  • Mojo

Not the best of games for Swishnasty.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

Kevin Millar just managed to raise the bar for douchy facial hair.

With that look, I’m surprised that Boston hasn’t already offered him a contract.

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

    D Rob rusty

  • Mister Delaware

C’mon, David. Just groove one if you must.

  • Cy Pettitte

    what are you doing, David?

  • jon

where was he going to bunt do they shift for agon?

    • Mister Delaware

It was just to throw off D-Rob’s eyes. Worked.

  • mbonzo

According to pitchFX 1,3,4 were all touching the strikezone.

  • Mojo

This game isn’t going to come easy, is it?

  • Karl Krawfid

    Damn D-Rob.

  • Sarah

I know DRob likes to load em up, but tonight, that is not an acceptable option. It is causing Yankee fans BP to rise unacceptably.

    • https://twitter.com/TheRealJeromeS Jerome S.

42 heart attacks in the Bronx alone tonight.

  • https://twitter.com/TheRealJeromeS Jerome S.

    No luck for the Yankees.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

God, everything that Pedroia does makes me angry.

    P.S., he was out.

    • RCA

      +1

  • Esteban

I thought they had it at first. Sheeit

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

    out!!!!!!!!

  • Kiko Jones

Can we give AJ some props?

    • Jetrer

      yes, he stepped up
      he did his job

    • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

pitched a good game…one mistake…Yanks should of been up 9 to 0 by then

      • Esteban

        Should of yup.

    • Chen Meng Wang

sure…he pitched ok tonight. He wasn’t great but he kept us in the game, and probably earned himself some more starts.

      • Jetrer

I thought he was better than just OK, especially considering the opponent
I think this probably does get him more starts, I just hope it doesn’t mean Hughes to the BP right now

    • CBean

he did a good job. sad that the team didn’t get him the win when they had so many opportunities.

  • Roland Deschain

And he was out. Terrible call. Just terrible. Strike zone has been awful, too.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Out. what a load of bullshit.

  • Karl Krawfid

    He was out :(

  • mbonzo

Pedroia’s grittiness caused the umpire to suck at his job.

  • Mojo

OMG OMG OMG OMG. That was RIGHT down the middle. I believe I’m working on my third or fourth heart attack ’bout now. Not sure, though, pretty sure one of them was a stroke.

  • Ivan

    He was out.

  • Avi

    Ugly Pedroia was OUT!!

  • pat

    Throw Ortiz the change please.

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

Made Papi look like a BITTTTTTTCH

  • Mister Delaware

    Let’s get this one, Dave-Rob.

  • mbonzo

A battle for first place? I bet Michael Kay his job that the Red Sox are in first place after tonight.

    • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

never trust someone who doesnt eat soup

  • Ivan

    96 MPH….Damn.

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

    Bruise, phew.

  • Sarah

    This is brutal.

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

D Rob got swag for a white boy!!!!!!!!!!!

  • CBean

    ohthankgod!

  • RCA

    Robertson >>> Bard

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    3 more outs.

  • Mister Delaware

    Holler.

  • Zooboy

D-Rob should get credit for 1.1 innings there.

  • Mojo

This will be an interesting half inning. Would love to see both Dick and Monty rip the ball.

  • Cy Pettitte

ok time for Jesus to get a hit

  • boogie down

Homer over the Monster. Heard it here first.

    • boogie down

      Maybe not.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

This would be a great time for Jesus’s first home run.

  • pat

Tito showing Montero some respect, or just playing it by the numbers?

    • pat

Bah, I was thinking there were 2 out when he bought Wheeler in.

  • Addison

Girardi has said Montero will NOT get a start behind the plate.

He is strictly a DH, PH, and his playing time is dependent on ARod’s hand going forward and the Yanks position in the standings.

The Yankees didn’t call him up to play everyday, they called him up because it’s September first.

He could get fifty PA’s the rest of the year, he could get twenty.

Either way, he will have NO IMPACT on the Yankees’ position in the standings.

Montero’s appearance in the dugout the next thirty days is no different than Brandon Laird’s or Chris Dickerson’s.

Go take a cold shower, and have a good holiday weekend.

    • Jetrer

nice story, not much of it is true
he’s getting a chance to win at least the RH DH job, and could earn pt for the playoffs. Brandon Laird and Dickerson have no chance of starting playoff games, Montero does.

    • pat

Montero will get more AB’s than Dickerson and Laird put together.

    • Roland Deschain

This is all BS. It’s all on Lohud. Girardi said they would decide things on a day to day basis when asked if Montero could DH against righties.

    • AaronGuielWithASmile

Well now that Montero’s catching, you probably feel pretty silly don’t you?

      • Jetrer

Martin is still catching, Montero was just catching the warm-up pitches

        • AaronGuielWithASmile

I know, I just thought it was ironic that he posted about how Montero would never catch while he was physically catching.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Jesus hit a bullet.

    • Chen Meng Wang

I really thought he had his first hit there :(

    • Sarah

Twice. He looked good. Takes pitches. Maybe this weekend at the stadium. Be good for a first hit to be at home.

  • JobaWockeeZ

    Unlucky.

  • Cy Pettitte

Jesus y u no hit 5 home runs tonight? god.

    • Chen Meng Wang

Really think we should trade him while he still has some value…we could totally get a LOOGY for him if we try hard enough.

      • Sarah

        Maybe 2 subpar LOOGYs?

        • Chen Meng Wang

Cashman is good idk if he’s that good though…

  • RCA

I love Yankee-Red Sox games as much as the next one (especially when we win), but this is ridiculous. They have to do something with the length of these games.

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

bottom of the lineup Mo….cmon now

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

All right Mo, let’s do dis.

  • Cy Pettitte

DRob gave Mo the easy part. No drama please Mo.

    • Sarah

      +1

  • CBean

    aww Jesus warming up God.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    From God to Jesus.

    • brazilian fan

      this is poetic

  • Ivan

    Wow….God is throwing to Jesus…Sweet.

  • Foghorn Leghorn

is Suckonmycockia hitting this inning? he’s an anti-latin-ite

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

    this effing strikezone

  • pat

Oh come on. Stop dicking around with this bitchass Lowrie.

  • brazilian fan

    fucking umps

  • Roland Deschain

Home plate ump is a clown. Terrible strike zone, just like Tuesday. None of these umps should be calling a postseason ballgame.

    • Hummingbird S.

      both pitches were outside

  • Mister Delaware

I think that’s the wildest pitch I’ve ever seen Mariano throw.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Come on Mo, don’t make this stressful.

  • Ivan

    Ugh…it never ends quietly.

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

bottom of the lineup continues to haunt yanks

  • Karl Krawfid

    Seriously Mo?

    Never easy is it.

    • AaronGuielWithASmile

      Actually, it usually is

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    /heart starts beating again

    • Mister Delaware

Mine stops when mediocre should-be-4th-OFs fly out too.

  • Hummingbird S.

Mo’s command is pretty bad tonight

  • Foghorn Leghorn

double play would be good right here…

  • Mister Delaware

I wish Mariano had clapped there.

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

    one more….lets go MO

  • Guns of the Navarone

Hit a home run because this game isn’t long enough yet.

  • Mister Delaware

    That pitch, twice more.

  • Addison

So, for all of you who ridiculed me and took me up on my $5 offer that Montero wouldn’t get the ball out of the infield tonight, I’ll be calling my old buddy Sammy Gravano tomorrow morning for help in collecting.

You know who you are, and for the first time in your life, when you walk out your front door tomorrow, pay more attention to what’s behind you than in front.

    Losers.

    • Jetrer

he did get the ball out of the infield
      I want my $5

    • pat

Didn’t he hit a line drive to right center in his last AB?

    • Chen Meng Wang

Pretty sure he flied out to right in his second AB and lined out to right in his most recent AB. Sorry bro.

    • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

      in love with you

    • RCA

But he did get the ball out of the infield.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Hilarious. He flew out to right twice. Perhaps you should start double checking stuff before commenting.

    • Guns of the Navarone

You must not remember that line drive he hit out of the infield.

Also, using any energy whatsoever to try and stick it to people on a message board at 11:30 at night lets EVERYONE know who the loser is anyway.

  • A-Rod’s Hip

these games in this ballpark make me sick

  • CBean

    i’m going to throw up

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

way to make it easy, Mo

  • Ivan

ahhhhhhh…..Come on Mo…you got this man.

  • Roland Deschain

Please stay away from Scutaro this time, Mo.

  • Hummingbird S.

Great, Mo with no command against Scutaro. Doesnt bring back good memories.

  • Mister Delaware

Mariano wanted Scutaro here. He remembers.

    • Esteban

      NEVAR FORGET.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Oh boy.

    Scutaro vs Mo.

  • Mojo

Wow. Potential for monumental collapse here.

  • Esteban

Can they get out Babe Scutaro?

  • RayFo

If this game was on fox we’d be seeing the Scutaro walk off homer against Mo about 1billion times by now.

  • Ivan

    Fuck Scutaro…..

  • Cy Pettitte

what the fuck is going on?

  • swishers fauxhawk

    Oh for fuck’s sake.

  • A-Rod’s Hip

    Scutaro just owns Mo

  • Karl Krawfid

    :(

    I don’t want to cry :(

  • Roland Deschain

Shut it down, Mo! Inexcusable to blow another save here. SHUT IT DOWN!

  • Mojo

    No comment. AGon.

  • Cuso

You’ve gotta be kidding me right now

  • pat

    Please Mo. I will cry.

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

time for the sox to leave runners on and LOSE this game

    • Sarah

Thank god the Yankees are out of that hellhole they call Fenway Park. I’m gonna get an ulcer watching these Yankees-Red Sox games.

  • brazilian fan

if we meet them in the playoffs it will be a heart attack tryout series.

    I can’t handle it

  • Jorge

I’ll show up in time to say what an incredibly sweet victory. Great to see Montero score that winning run. Great to see AJ not have to be carried off in a straightjacket. Great to see Mo and DRob do what they do. Goodbye, Fenway. May you be accidentally blown up by the spring.

    • Sarah

Where was Hurricane Irene to wash the place away?!?!

    • billysbartender

where would all the asbestos go?

    Jesus works in mysterious ways.

  • Stratman9652

If Jesus is going to catch this year, tomorrow would be the time to do it. I’m sure he has caught Nova before.
