Bill Hall heading home after not making team

Via Dan Barbarisi, Bill Hall is heading home after not making the Opening Day roster. He wants a big league job and will try to latch on with another team. Hall did not have an opt-out clause in his contract, so the Yankees released him at his request. That’s a shame, Hall would have been a nice guy to have stashed away in Triple-A for depth.

Al Leiter said that Hall did have an opt-out during yesterday’s game. Not that it matters much either way.

  3. Morneau After Pill says:

He looks really stupid now after tweeting about getting a ring this season because he got a spring training invite from the Yankees.

  4. Plank says:

Under the new CBA the Yankees could have retained him until June if they paid him 100K, I believe.

    • Slugger27 says:

wouldve been well worth it, i think

    • RetroRob says:

I heard during one of the broadcasts that Hall understood he had little chance to make the team, but he appreciated that the Yankees had shown an interest him several times in the past, and would accept playing in AAA.

      Something happened.

      • Havok9120 says:

        I heard that as well.

The broadcasters may just have been wrong though. Who knows?

        • RetroRob says:

          Broadcasters, wrong? Never!

I think something changed, like maybe Hall’s agent already knows some MLB team has an interest in him, or he was comfortable with going to AAA until he was actually faced with the prospect.

All the good vibes came a craaaaaaaashhhing down I see.

  6. Johnny says:

Remember when he thought he would make the team? He posted a tweet that said as much.

Busy day today. Love this tweet from @TrippingOlney.

Would have been the 7th OFer (behind Ibanez and Maxwell) or 7th IFer (behind Chavez and Nunez).

Can’t say I blame him. Best of luck to you Bill Hall, as long as you don’t wind up on the Sox.

  8. Tyrone Sharpton says:

yanks r stupid to not give him an opportunity. wow losers take phelps AND ibanez over this brutha? hall is a stud, phelps is unproven. this guy deserves more respect

    • Slugger27 says:

your schtick got old a long time ago

    • jjyank says:

I don’t get it. There are time where you post real comments that actually make sense. And then there are other times that make me question your sanity. This has to be sarcasm, right?

      • Tyrone Sharpton says:

I am who I thought I am. I clearly employ sarcasm a lot lol

        • jjyank says:

That time it was fairly obvious. But other times you just sound like a racist white person impersonating a black person. So my sarcasm detector for you is not the same one I would use for everyone else.

  9. Ac says:

He had a rough spring. Was like Cerano , “I like straight ball very much , but no help with curve ball”. He can flat out slap the FB around throw him off speed stuff he can’t hack it. If he showed a bit more with stick you never know. Best of luck to him catching on with another team I don’t blame him for passing on AAA assignment

  10. Matt :: Sec110 says:

He literally took his bat and glove and went home…

  11. DDay says:

Hall didn’t even look like a ball player , maybe the worst spring regular this year?
Looked like Eddie Murphy’s ugly cousin
