Game 84: Get Greedy

(REUTERS/Jessica Rinaldi)

The Yankees have met their minimum requirement. Realistically, they had to come into this four-game series and manage at least a split to make sure the Red Sox would gain no ground on them in the standings this weekend. Two games in, they already have their split. It’s time for the Bombers to get greedy and create even more separation with Boston. They’re already ten games up in the loss column, time to make it eleven. Here’s the lineup…

SS Derek Jeter
CF Curtis Granderson
DH Mark Teixeira
2B Robinson Cano
1B Nick Swisher
LF Andruw Jones
3B Jayson Nix
Russell Martin
RF Darnell McDonald

RHP Phil Hughes

Tonight’s game starts a little after 7pm ET and can be seen on FOX. Yuck. Try to enjoy anyway.

    -Gordon Girardi

  2. The Moral Majority is Neither says:

Phil Hughes becomes a true Yankee tonight.

  3. Mark in VT says:

I’d rather bat Swisher 3rd. He’s been much better than Tex lately.

  4. forensic says:

I’m enjoying the multi-run first innings. How about another one?

  5. Dela G says:

    let’s sweep this day

  6. Kevin G. says:

I want to sweep the entire series and kill any hopes the Sox had of winning the division

  7. Get Phelps Up says:

Toronto loses. So unfortunately, the Red Sox will not have last place to themselves today.

  8. OMG! Bagels! says:

Read OTM game thread (not to troll, I actually think some of those guys are very funny and I don’t post there). But the first comment about the game past the 1st inning came sometime around 4:00.

They referenced pink hats again. What does that reference mean?

  9. TomH says:

Fox? That means the night’s running story will be big-mouth Reggie. What a 32 carat jerk.

  10. BK2ATL says:

Count me in for being greedy. I’m wanting the series sweep to widen the lead. Tampa has issues with Longoria now out indefinitely. Baltimore is making a play for Greinke, and they have the prospects to make it work. Boston is down now, but never out. Toronto is what they are.

Hughes needs to be aggressive against this lineup and not regress. He’s come a long way to this point. This will be a further boost to his confidence. A commanding win in Fenway.

Offensively, we should be able to handle Doubront.

    I’m guessing 7-2 Yanks win.

  11. DERP says:

    Matt Moore sucks.

  12. Tom says:

    Sweep the leg!

    Finish them!

  13. Ethan says:

    God i hate fox broadcasts

  14. JobaWockeeZ says:

Valentine is gift wrapping wins. Another pathetic lineup tonight

    • forensic says:

He’s got Ross and saltalamacchia back in there, even in addition to Ryan Sweeney. This is nothing like the earlier lineup. This is about the best they can put together right now.

  15. Mattchu12 says:

Oh god, I thought it was awful with MLBN last night and this morning, but now I’m stuck with Buck and McCarver? Time to watch the game on mute.

  16. Pat D says:

I’m only able to see this game right now because the Braves and Philthies are in a rain delay. I both hope it rains for a while and stops raining immediately.

  17. Mattchu12 says:

Already more innings than last year for Doubrant? His arm is going to fall off by the end of the season, do the Red Sox just not care about anyone in their organization?

  18. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

    Did Jeter swallow a Furball?

  19. Andy says:

Totally at the mercy of the home plate umpire? What does that even mean?

  20. pat says:

  21. bobtaco says:

    Nice start…

  22. DERP says:

    good start

  23. Get Phelps Up says:

That’s not a tough play…stop being a Red Sox apologist, Tim.

  24. pat says:

  25. JobaWockeeZ says:

  26. DERP says:

that didn’t even look like a great bunt. lol at the sox

  27. Cy Pettitte says:

lol at the start of this game. Sox fans must be suicidal.

  28. Get Phelps Up says:

    Wow. Awesome start so far!

  29. Cy Pettitte says:

Teix! holy shit this is awesome.

  30. JobaWockeeZ says:

And it continues. May the 1st inning never leave.

  31. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

  32. Andy says:

  33. Karl Krawfid says:

  34. bobtaco says:

    Deja vu, bitches!

    also LOLSOX

  36. Tom says:

    Oh hells yeah!

  37. Get Phelps Up says:

    Boston Massacre 2012 part 2.

  38. Mike N says:

    YAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!

    FUCK THE RED SOCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  39. Mattchu12 says:

Valentine looks like he’s going to slit his wrists right there on the top step of the dugout.

  40. Ethan says:

  41. bobtaco says:

It’s really nice when Tex gets hot… so much different feel than the beginning of the year…

  42. Hummingbird S. says:

    this is AMAZING

  43. christopher says:

    Hard working team, right now.

  44. Countryclub says:

I’m a huge Cano fan, but I hate how he jogs to first on grounders. Just looks bad.

  45. Dino Velvet says:

Over/Under on McCarver mentioning 2004 is set at 6th inning.

  46. pat says:

Legit have never heard of Ciriaco or Mauro. Sad state of affairs for the Sox.

  47. Mike N says:

Could these fuckers telegraph any more clearly their disappointment and disgust that the Yanks already have a commanding lead in the AL East and are building on it?

  48. Dewayne is Wise says:

    No mercy
Do not forget hughes is a fly ball pitcher and the sox love their wall. Need more runs.

    • Mike N says:

If he has the nasty breaking ball working like he has in his last two starts, he’ll get a lot of ground balls and Ks.

  49. christopher says:

    Okay, let’s go Phil.

  50. Greg says:

Did Buck just say Bronson Arroyo will be back?

  51. Get Phelps Up says:

Wait…did Buck just say “Bronson Arroyo on his way back?”

  52. pat says:

We had a pretty good rally brewing and typical Tex fuckin ruined it. SMH

  53. christopher says:

No Mariano, no CC, no Andy, no Gardner, no Joba, no Pineada – best record in baseball. Go figure, go Yankees.

  54. Andy says:

    Small strikezone

    • pat says:

Yup that first pitch looked like a strike. Same with the first one to Punto. Fuck this ump already,

      • Andy says:

At least it seems consistent. I thought there were a couple balls called against the Yanks that I would have wanted for strikes.

  55. Mike N says:

I’d much rather listen to announcers who are partisans for one of the teams–even if it’s the Yanks’ opponents–than to assholes that are partisans for the competitiveness of the game.

  56. vicki says:

doubront: ace of the staff? only gave up three.

  57. Countryclub says:

Dante jr with a 3r dinger tonight. Is that his first one this yr?

  58. JobaWockeeZ says:

Would anyone like to get Nava out?

  59. Cy Pettitte says:

Buck was more excited about Nava’s base hit than he was about Teix’s HR

  60. Widget says:

come on Hughes, shutdown inning please.

  61. Get Phelps Up says:

Sorry Fox, they DIDN’T get a lead early…

  62. Dewayne is Wise says:

Hughes can not live on just a fastball at fenway

  63. Mike N says:

You could hear these fuckers popping wood on that Red Socks hit.

  64. Tom says:

Fox Ford Keys to the Game:

    Boston: Get early lead.

  65. Hummingbird S. says:

comon Phil, dont give it all back

  66. pat says:

HAHA didn’t realize Swish was playing 1st.

    • Dewayne is Wise says:

Yankees are full of 1st basemen tex swish chaves ibanez nix martin i think even andrew jones has played 1st before too.

  67. Hummingbird S. says:

  68. Cy Pettitte says:

    Defense today has been amazing

  69. Karl Krawfid says:

    omg CANO

  70. Mike N says:

  71. Greg says:

Remember folks, this game really means nothing to us.

We’ve done what we had to do here.

  72. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

  73. Mattchu12 says:

Remember when they said Cano couldn’t play defense? Lol.

  74. Dino Velvet says:

    Cano ? gritty

  75. pat says:

Too fucking smooth. Goddamn it I’m in love.

  76. Pat D says:

Gotta give Buck props to that one: “Ortiz grounds one into right field for an out.”

  77. Cuso says:

More runs. Go get em now. Throat stomp.

  78. JobaWockeeZ says:

So yeah remember when Cano was the best option to let walk?

  79. OMG! Bagels! says:

This heat makes the days just drag. I can’t imagine playing baseball in this stuff.

I feel like it’s midnight. Worked today and have to work tomorrow…I need something to give me some energy that is not Red Bull and is not illegal. Don’t know what. 47 iced coffees?

  80. vicki says:

three groundballs. who are you and what have you done with phil hughes?

  81. Tom says:

It’s amazing… he made that play just look ridiculously routine.

Even that back handed flip was a pretty long flip and perfectly on target. (not exactly a tough flip, but he also made that look easy)

  82. eephus_pitch says:

Why does everyone think McCarver hates the Yankees? I’ve never gotten that impression. He’s a terrible broadcaster, but I don’t get the Yankee-hate thing.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

Fox is stupid, it’s ESPN that has stupidity and hatred.

    • Cuso says:

EI was just thinking this too. He’s not a Yankee-hater compared to others.

When people say that about McCarver it gives creedence to the notion that “All fans always think ‘so-and-so’ hates their team.”

There ARE genuine hatred out there, but you have to be somewhat objective in identifying them. McCarver doesn’t pass the smell test as a hater.

  83. Countryclub says:

Have to be happy with that first inning from Phil. He tends to struggle in the first. I’ll take a couple of hard hit balls as long as they lead to outs.

  84. pat says:

I may not know who he is, but I like the way that kid Ciriaco plays SS. Looks very smooth.

  85. Greg says:

Harper going to the All-Star game for Stanton

  86. Ethan says:

Harper going to ASG? What a joke.

    • Get Phelps Up says:

Everybody originally on the NL Final Vote ballot except Hill is going.

    • Tom says:

Have you seen the NL roster?

They have 3 backup 3rd baseman, while I think just 1 backup at 2nd, SS and catcher.

In the last few days LaRussa has replace Molina with an OF, and Ian Desmond with an OF.

    • whozat says:

      A joke?

      .283 .355 .475, 127 wRC+

      What’s funny about it?

  87. Dewayne is Wise says:

    Why cant Long fix Martin.

  88. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

Good defensive catcher. Hahaha…Nichols effect in action.

  89. bobtaco says:

  90. Get Phelps Up says:

Russ taking a some advise from Stewart.

  91. Dewayne is Wise says:

Come on crabman get him in.

  92. Karl Krawfid says:

Darnell needs to add insult to injury here.

    Yep yep.

  93. Tom says:

Yeah Boston had no use for Youkilis on the bench…. the key was making Bobby V happy.

  94. pat says:

McCarver has such an eye for talent. Giancarlo Stanton stood out to him during ST one year? 6’5″ monster hitting absolute moonshots all over the field. Talk about a diamond in the rough.

Wow Sox are just playing awful baseball right now.

  95. Betty Lizard says:

    A double! Hooray Russell!
And damn you Fox, damn you to hell.

  96. Hall and Nokes says:

Unless I’m mistaken, that’s the fifth time on this road trip that Jeter has scored a first inning run. I think Granderson has 3 or 4 himself.

  97. Greg says:

    two good sliders/changeups by Doubront

  98. Dewayne is Wise says:

    Couldnt make contact fail

  99. Widget says:

This is why you got dumped by the red sox Darnell, you suck.

  100. pat says:

Same pitch was called a ball 2x for Hughes.

  101. Mattchu12 says:

Felix sure got mouthy right there. That’s not going to endear him with the Ump, which is kind of the opposite of what the Sox need right now.

  102. Widget says:

at least they are making Doubront work.

  103. Mr. Pink says:

How many at-bats is it going to take for the Yankees to realize that Doubront is relying on his curve in the dirt in hitters counts?

  104. Tom says:

The ump got both calls to Jeter right…. the Fox off angle shot makes it tough. Strike 2 got the inside corner and ball 3 (or ball 2?) was just off the plate (some umps call it)

  105. Monterowasdinero says:

    Salty not an all star?

I think Russ should give him his spot. Lol

  106. Andy says:

    Hughes lookin sharp

  107. Dewayne is Wise says:

Joe Buck really hates NY Teams.

  108. Mattchu12 says:

He isn’t getting a lot of calls, but Phil is flat out painting the corner. A lot of these pitches have been borderline ball/strike, and that’s a ton to like about that. I like where he is putting the fastball so far.

  109. Chris says:

Tell me Tim McCarver, how does one have a “soft” 17-game hitting streak?

    • whozat says:

Well, you hear about people hitting an “empty” .300 when it’s basically all singles. I figure it’s the same thing. If you go 1-4 with a single every day, that’s kinda not actually that great.

    • Cuso says:

He has 25 hits during the streak – 3 for extra bases.

Rather soft for a first baseman

  110. Monterowasdinero says:

What happened to the Sux batboy? How did he hurt his thumb?

  111. pat says:

Who the hell is Cody Ross to do a bat flip? Especially considering how awful their team has been playing.

  112. Greg says:

Both pitchers are getting angry at the ump

  113. Mr. Pink says:

Fox is pathetic. Let’s show a Cody Ross homerun from two games ago disregarding the fact that the Red Sox lost that game and admire it.

  114. Dewayne is Wise says:

    Nice effort there russel

  115. jjyank says:

I really need to start paying for cable. Being blacked out on MLB.TV sucks. Can someone give me a quick recap? I suppose I could just look at gameday, but I won’t get the context that only RAB commenters can provide :D

  116. Pat D says:

Shit, I’m going to lose the game in about 5 minutes.

  117. Hall and Nokes says:

Arguably per pitchfx, Hughes threw nine strikes to Ross.

  118. whozat says:

  119. Dewayne is Wise says:

    Andrew jones day

  120. Chris says:

    Vintage ANDRUW

  121. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

    Turn back the clock Andruw!

  122. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

didn’t think he still had that in him

  123. Karl Krawfid says:

    Defense babY!!!!!!

  124. Mattchu12 says:

I love how Andruw just has that “yeah, you saw that shit,” grin on his face whenever he does something right. That guy is a character.

  125. Cy Pettitte says:

holy fuck Andruw. he is having some day.

  126. Mr. Pink says:

I would’ve been so pissed if Andruw didn’t make that catch.

  127. pat says:

Fuckin Jonesy. Just making a mockery of the sport. You see that smile? Disrespecting Flanny I tells ya.

  128. Ivan says:

Andruw is playing like its 1996 or something…

  129. Cuso says:

And the rain delay in Atlanta is over – meaning I just got bounced from this game.

    F. F. F f f

  130. Hummingbird S. says:

D is saving Phil so far.. awesome D

  131. Rocky Road Redemption says:

What the fuck got into Jones?

  132. pat says:

Jones covered a lot of ground there? Ummm looked like 5 or 6 steps. Hah.

  133. Mr. Pink says:

I don’t think it’s possible for the FOX booth to be any more anti-Yankee/pro-Red Sox.

  134. Chris says:

Wow. At least this home plate ump sucks for both sides.

  135. Hummingbird S. says:

comon offense, dont go to sleep

  136. Dewayne is Wise says:

Erin Andrews working Alstar game on AL side
Wonder if jeter will do her?

  137. Mr. Pink says:

Grandy should’ve gotten this game off too. Doubront is a tougher lefty on lefties IMO.

  138. Mr. Pink says:

A Red Sox pitcher bitchin’ about the strikezone. What else is new?

  139. Andy says:

This Gomez clown is hitting the shit out of the ball

  140. Mike E says:

Shane Greene pitching a no-no into the 6th.

  141. bobtaco says:

I bet Gardner would have had that one…

  142. Hummingbird S. says:

comon D… and Phil looks like crap so far

  143. Chris says:

    I’ll take a double play

  144. Hummingbird S. says:

everything is being hit hard so far

  145. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Phil Hughes’s ERA is 420….hahahahahahahhah shit’s not funny, bro.

  146. Widget says:

This inning sure is shaping up to be shit. The offense gives Doubront a freaking easy inning and now Phil is about to explode. COme on with this crap.

  147. Mr. Pink says:

I’ll happily trade a run for a DP against the Sox.

  148. Cy Pettitte says:

watching some guys through the slit in the monster, this is captivating television.

  149. Hummingbird S. says:

    Punto? Really?? Comon Phil

  150. Cy Pettitte says:

2 out double to Punto in front of Ortiz…come on Phil.

  151. Dewayne is Wise says:

    I hat that fucking wall.

  152. Get Phelps Up says:

    Stupid wall.

  153. Greg says:

Calm down guys. This game means nothing

  154. pat says:

Yankee Stadium is a joke yet Fenway is quirky and historic.

  155. Mr. Pink says:

Would you guys say Hughes is the weak link in the rotation?

  156. whozat says:

I was at that game in Oakland, and Ortiz did drill the shit out of that homer.

Nice job, phil. Way to minimize the damage

  157. Tom says:

That’s got to be at least 4 or 5 doubles that are probably routine outs this series. (there were at least 3 in the first game against Kuroda that were very routine flyballs)

  158. Brian S. says:

Hughes just wanted to get Ortiz out of the way for next inning.

  159. christopher says:

Thunk! it’s one of the unique sounds in baseball, a ball smacking the Monster at Fenway. But A Yankee Thunk sounds better than a Sox Thunk!

  160. Tom says:

Good grief… are the Fox announcers banging the scoreboard operators (not that there’s anything wrong with that), do they really need that much airtime?

  161. I really don’t understand swinging at anything but a fastball straight down the middle after a four pitch walk.

  162. whozat says:

That was a really nice play. Damn!

  163. pat says:

Yeah that kid’s pretty clean out there. I like that.

  164. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

    damn … nice play

  165. Dewayne is Wise says:

That boston ss is so thin if he turns sideways he disappears.

  166. Chris says:

This Ciriaco kid, I like the cut of his jib

  167. Mr. Pink says:

Doubront is starting to piss me off with all his prissiness and his blantant complaining about the strikezone. I feel like he’s gonna start getting generous calls.

    • Tom says:

Well when you are on staff with Lester (who will just stare down umps early in the game to get calls later) and Beckett (who will do the same); it’s not hard to figure out where he picked it up.

    • Frank says:

In fairness to Dubront, Tim Timmons has a postage stamp sized strike zone, but he is consistant.

  168. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

    Is Ciriaco nicknamed giraffe yet?

  169. pat says:

Lol, Jones is a big dude to be barreling down on you at 2B.

  170. Dewayne is Wise says:

Tony Romo a better QB than Eli Manning? discuss

  171. That Jason Nix…everytime he plays he does something great.-John Sterling, every time he sees Nix.

  172. wow…Sterling is god awful. He just called the 2-1 a cutter or fastball. It came in at 86 as a change.

  173. JobaWockeeZ says:

    I miss the Posada era.

  174. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

Hey Russ, it’s OK to take that bat off of your shoulder.

  175. bobtaco says:

So Dubront is at 73 pitches through 4, should be gone by the 6th or 7th, hopefully…

  176. Dewayne is Wise says:

I would rather see stewart everyday than this version of Martin.

  177. Mr. Pink says:

I think Doubront is on his way to joining the ranks of hated Red Sawx players such as Pedroia, Manny Ramirez, Youkilis, and Papelbon. Something about him just irks me.

  178. pat says:

Chavy Jonesy and Nixy. HAh fuckin Joe is trolling us.

  179. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

this park is such a joke

  180. Cy Pettitte says:

Phil + wall = not good

  181. Dewayne is Wise says:

    Hate that fucking wall.

  182. Brooklyn Nets says:

Do you guys remember how excited we all were when Hughes was a prospect, 21 years old in 07, pitching a no-hitter against Texas? He was doing it with a 4 seam fastball 92-94 topping 95. A beastly curve. And a 91-93 2 seamer tailing away from lefties.

Then he went to the pen and learned that ABOMINATION of a cutter and he was never the same.

Good to have our top prospect back. He’s 26 btw.

  183. Chris says:

    Seriously? Fuck this ballpark, man.

  184. Karl Krawfid says:

    Fastball fastball fastball.

    I mean come on Hughes.

  185. pat says:

Phil throw a fucking offspeed pitch please. They’re gonna play wall ball all fucking day out there.

  186. Get Phelps Up says:

    God damn wall.

  187. whozat says:

    Man, I hate that wall.

  188. Jones is settling under it, and he ma…it bounces high off the wall for a double-John Sterling.

  189. Mattchu12 says:

“When Adrian hits the ball to left field as a left hander, he looks like a right handed pull hitter.” Dumbest statement of the night?

  190. DERP says:

lol at this fucking little league park.

  191. Mr. Pink says:

There’s the flyball Phil I know (and hate).

  192. DERP says:

that was right down the middle

  193. Greg says:

Both pitchers are approaching pissed off level.

  194. Hummingbird S. says:

damn, what a play by Nix

  195. Mattchu12 says:

Look at the arm on Nix! Wow.

  196. Cy Pettitte says:

pretty impressive throw, Nix has some arm

  197. Brooklyn Nets says:

Hughes would have a shutout in any non-little league park and in some little league parks in my area.

  198. Chris says:

The Yankees are putting on a defensive clinic today.

  199. bobtaco says:

Finally a throw that Tex didn’t have to dig out

  200. JobaWockeeZ says:

    That was a good impression.

  201. Brooklyn Nets says:

That 2 seamer he’s throwing as some ridiculous movement.

  202. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

Tell me again why Nix can’t be the long term answer as utility guy ?

  203. Brooklyn Nets says:

    That curveball is just filthy.

  204. eephus_pitch says:

    Most annoying John Sterling-ism?
Whenever the Yankee SS or 3rd baseman has to make a long throw to first and he says “the LOOOOOOONG throw to first.” Don’t be go friggin’ melodramatic.

And as I type this, Suzyn reminds us that Jayson Nix is “a baseball player.”

  205. Tom says:

“The Red Sox don’t want to go into the break down double digits”

Doesn’t get much better than the Fox crew.

  206. Brooklyn Nets says:

Anyone else think that if Elvis Andrus was a Yankee Sterling would totally go with

  207. Cy Pettitte says:

how does Fox still not have pitch count displayed with the score?

  208. bobtaco says:

Nice inning… keep throwing up the zeros, Phil!

  209. Get Phelps Up says:

If Hughes stops inducing routine flyouts to left he’ll be fine.

  210. Mr. Pink says:

Joe Buck now apologizing. Love it.

  211. DERP says:

This ump can go himself after the game.

  212. Andy says:

That has been a ball all fucking game.

  213. JobaWockeeZ says:

That’s a draft story I don’t want to hear. Ever again.

  214. Cy Pettitte says:

zone has been so tiny all night and then the ump calls that a strike? come on.

  215. Mattchu12 says:

    Huh? That’s a strike? WTF?

  216. Get Phelps Up says:

Wow…I wish Hughes would get that pitch.

  217. Karl Krawfid says:

    Low strike. Bullshit.

  218. eephus_pitch says:

Someone remind Jeter he can still hit lefties, please.

  219. Tom says:

Looks like the staredowns worked… hate that shit (like I said earlier, Lester does that all the time)

  220. oldmanalex says:

Tim Mcarver put his foot in his mouth.

By discussing “locks for love”, do they do business… o man that was bad.

  224. Mr. Pink says:

I’m going to laugh so hard when Bobby V gets the boot from Boston.

  225. Brian S. says:

Hughes better get that fucking pitch from now on.

  226. bobtaco says:

Doubront at 85 pitches through 5.

  227. Cy Pettitte says:

Swish! defense today has been so good. loving this.

  228. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

    Filthy curve all night.

  229. Mattchu12 says:

Joe Buck: “I wanna illustrate how good Phil Hughes was as a reliever, maybe I should reference his win-loss record. Yeah, that’s how you do that.”

    • OMG! Bagels! says:

I want to illustrate what an idiot Joe Buck is. Joe, please speak one sentence into the microphone.

  230. Brooklyn Nets says:

  231. Kramerica Industries says:

    That was a Vlad-like hit.

  232. Greg says:

    Damn. I want this guy

  233. Mr. Pink says:

    Ciriaco with an Aybar-esque hit.

  234. DERP says:

LOL at this stupid fuck getting lucky like that

  235. pat says:

Lol of course this scrub flips a pitch into CF. It practically fuckin bounced first.

  236. Chris says:

Get this Vlad Guerrero impersonator out of here

  237. Nigel Bangs says:

    Another garbage Fox replay. Yeesh.

  238. Cy Pettitte says:

    wow what the fuck Darnell

  239. Mattchu12 says:

I remember when Ichiro lined a pitch to Jeter that bounced. It actually bounced.

  240. DERP says:

    Come on McDonald

  241. whozat says:

    Embedded Red Sox?

  242. Greg says:

    That’s on Grandy

    • Brian S. says:

I said that on another blog and was BOMBARDED with people that are only Yankee fans because they want to suck Granderson’s cock.

  243. Kramerica Industries says:

Well, that was a bad time for the defense to abandon the Yankees.

    • whozat says:

That was Curtis shying away from the idiot running at him, despite him calling for it.

      Sorry, DFA McDonald…

  244. Chris says:

    Darnell McDonald: Embedded Red Sock

  245. bobtaco says:

OK, DFA McDonald after the game. Enough of this.

  246. Get Phelps Up says:

  247. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

  248. Hummingbird S. says:

    pathetic… grandy cant do that

  249. Karl Krawfid says:

    Jesus Christ.

  250. Widget says:

Yankees are going to blow this game. Pathetic.

  251. Brooklyn Nets says:

  252. pat says:

    Jesus Christ. Come on now.

  253. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

    that’s a strike

  254. Greg says:

Guys. dont get upset. This game means nothing at all

    • Tom says:

      Why are you here then?

And why do you keep repeating it?

    • Mr. Pink says:

What the hell are you talking about! Every game matters. Especially in the ALE!

      • Greg says:

We took our 2 already. We’re not losing any ground that we had coming in

        • Pat D says:

          Foot on throat, my friend.

          • Greg says:

The difference between want and need is very different

            • Kramerica Industries says:

With these four game series, especially when the Yankees win the first game, or two, I always eliminate those games and look at it as a two game series or three game series.

In that vein, this is a two game series. At worst, you wish to split a two-gamer, no? And a split is easier if you win the first game.

            • Pat D says:

Bullshit, man. You can’t just be willing to accept a potential loss.

They’ve given away a few games already this year and lost some they might regret (those games against the Twins and Royals), so every game is a need.

Besides, a 3-4 road trip is not a success.

              • Kramerica Industries says:

Furthermore, even if the Red Sox aren’t the chief focus, tonight is a chance to gain another game on the Rays (lost already) and possibly the Orioles.

As well as keeping with the Rangers for best record in the AL.

No one needs to delude themselves. This game is not an exhibition game, and should not be treated as such. Hopefully, the Hughes and the pen can hold the fort down, because the the O has gone to sleep since the first inning.

    • Hummingbird S. says:

We get it, you think they only needed to win 2.. stop repeating it every goddamn comment

    • Oh. My. God. Were is Talapia? Greg is trying to talk people off ledges?!

  255. Dewayne is Wise says:

Cut crabmans ass get my boy Wise out there.

  256. Mr. Pink says:

Argh Grandy. I don’t even know why he’s playing with a tough lefty out there.

  257. bobtaco says:

    WHAT?! Fuck this ump.

  258. Brooklyn Nets says:

    Where are these pitches missing

  259. DERP says:

This ump should go kill himself after this game. I know I would if I was this bad at my job.

  260. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

    this umpire is absolute garbage

  261. Andy says:

What is up with this strike zone. Absolutely miserable.

  262. Chris says:

Where the fuck was that 1-0 pitch?

  263. Get Phelps Up says:

I hope Martin “accidentally” misses a fastball.

  264. Greg says:

I dont care if McDonald is coming in. Grandy has to catch that

  265. Brooklyn Nets says:

SURE load the bases for ORTIZ

  266. DERP says:

Safe to say that getting Punto is absolutely huge

  267. Widget says:

This ump clearly grew up a red sox fan.

  268. Karl Krawfid says:

    4 out inning.

  269. Brooklyn Nets says:

    That run is unearned, correct?

  270. Brian S. says:

Oh wow he actually caught it this time.

  271. wow says:

juts got home and I can’t watch the game thanks to the Braves. Once again, thank you, FOX for your out-of-date blackout rules.

  272. Chris says:

Has Ortiz made an out yet this series?

  273. Dewayne is Wise says:

    Hughes giving it up.

  274. pat says:

Ugh, if fucking Salty comes through here I’ll rage.

  275. Mr. Pink says:

Hey look, Swish is recruiting Big Papi for us.

    • Nathan says:

      Do not want.

As good as Ortiz is, he whines and moans too much. Besides, Yankees don’t need another DH.

  276. Andy says:

It is so clear how excited Joe Buck is that the tying run is on third

  277. Cy Pettitte says:

    nice Phil

  278. DERP says:

    Nice job by Hughes

  279. Kramerica Industries says:

    Sit the fuck down, Salty.

  280. Mattchu12 says:

  281. bobtaco says:

OK, not bad Phil, not bad… now put Neck-too on the bench.

  282. Chris says:

    Thanks for whiffing, Salty.

  283. Adam says:

    Hughes is mince-meating Saltalamacchia tonight.

  284. christopher says:

Old Fenway is a tough playground. Hang in there. Phil.

  285. Mike N says:

    Hughes is hanging tough!

  286. Tom says:

Good job picking up the D (after the D picked him up earlier).

bloop hit, error, sac fly… could have been better, but in this joke or a park a routine flyball to LF could have given Boston the lead too.

  287. Brooklyn Nets says:

Can someone explain how that run isn’t unearned?

  288. bobtaco says:

Phil now at 86 pitches, one more than Doubront through 5…

  289. Brian S. says:

I fucking hate fans that have favorite players that think they can do no wrong. Granderson fucked up there.

  290. Hummingbird S. says:

I dont get this ump. You have 10 pitches in the same spot, 5 are balls and 5 are strikes. How does that work?

  291. Mr. Pink says:

I feel like Doubront should’ve been out of this game a long time ago. He’s been barely getting by and being just efficient enough to keep pitching.

  292. christopher says:

Okay, a red carpet show for baseball is a little bush league for my taste. What are we going to do? Discuss who designed Jeter’s suit?

  293. Nigel Bangs says:

    Good scouting.

  294. Widget says:

This is just pathetic. The offense better show up tomorrow.

  295. Brian S. says:

  296. Nathan says:

Has that double pick-off move ever been successful?

  297. christopher says:

I must be watching a different broadcast. My TV says the Yanks have the lead.

  298. Chris says:

Shut up Joe Buck, is Fenway Park is to MLB Ballparks as Khloe Kardashian is to the Kardashian sisters.

I can’t believe I just used that analogy.

  299. I know this is really greedy, and unlikely…but hopefully Hughes can some how get us 6 more outs w/o allowing another run…and then we can go to Roberston and Soriano. Even if it’s only 3 then we can use Logan in the 7th…

  300. Dewayne is Wise says:

Wow fenway is beautiful? Yeah it smell wonderful too like underwear with a load in it thats been rotting in a locker for a year.

  301. Greg says:

Its unbelievable that you guys cant tip the cap to Doubront. He’s a tough lefthander. He has settled down well.

Bottom line, you cant blame the offense all of the time

  302. Brooklyn Nets says:

    How is that DM’s error?

    • whozat says:

When you almost run into the guy catching the ball, it turns out people can see that and realize that you were the problem, not the guy you were running at.

  303. Tom says:

    47 pitches through 2 innings
48 pitches through the next 4

I realize Doubront has settled down a bit and is pitching better, but he should have been out of this game after 5 or 6 innings.

  304. pat says:

Clearly Curtis Granderson is the Official Scorer’s favorite player.

  305. whozat says:

  306. Brian S. says:

    Fuck you Jeter.

  307. Are you fucking kidding me? Wow…Lolfense as I leave for the bus :(

  308. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

    WTF Captain

  309. Kramerica Industries says:

    God almighty.

    Defense really abandoning now.

  310. pat says:

Have they hit a ball hard all day? Off the top of my head the Ortiz single last inning was the hardest.

  311. Dewayne is Wise says:

    Jeter really?

  312. Widget says:

bye bye lead. Thanks Yankee defense.

  313. bobtaco says:

There’s been some great defense, and some atrocious defense…

  314. Get Phelps Up says:

    Stupid defense.

  315. Nathan says:

    Dear Boston,

We feel sorry for you guys. Here, have a gift wrapped game on us.

    The Yankees

  316. Will The Thrill says:

Wow. The defense is seriously letting Hughes down today. They’re making him work extra hard for outs now.

  317. Chris says:

As good as the Yankees played in the first half of this game, that’s how not good they’ve played in the second half.

  318. Brian S. says:

This game has not been fun.

  319. Widget says:

That pitch right there is a strike for Doubront. Screw you Greg :)

  320. Ethan says:

Hughes seems to be getting squeezed

  321. christopher says:

    Let’s go Phil.

  322. Greg says:

Besides, the percentages say we shouldn’t win this game anyway. My double headers are usually split.

And since we did what we had to do by at least splitting this 4 game set, I’m not that upset. And neither should you guys

    • Kramerica Industries says:

The logic of going for the jugular is totally lost with that line of reasoning.

And I already gave plenty of more reasoning above.

      • Greg says:

I was hoping for at least a split. Anything after that is gravy.

I’m not going to let you guys or this team get me frustrated when they have met my expectations

        • Kramerica Industries says:

Most of us are hoping for even more now that the basic expectations have been met. It would feel disappointing if the Red Sox split after the Yankees won the first two games.

Didn’t you expect a 4-3 roadtrip, by the way? A split means 3-4.

          • Greg says:

As I said earlier, I changed my quota once the Sox got swept by the A’s and didn’t take advantage of our struggles against the Rays.

            • Kramerica Industries says:

The Orioles and Rays have better records in the division.

The Rangers are up there for best record overall.

Anaheim and Chicago are also very good, record-wise.

All of them are better than the Red Sox in that department, right now.

So, again, always basing things around Boston is just ignorant. Sorry, but there are many teams with better records right now. Teams that have not lost 7 of 9 games.

              • Kramerica Industries says:

Here are the best records in the AL, top to bottom:

                1. New York – 50-32
                2. Texas – 50-34
                3. Chicago – 47-37
                4. Anaheim – 46-38
                5. Baltimore – 45-38
                6. Cleveland – 44-40
                7. Tampa Bay – 44-41
                8. Detroit – 43-42
                9. Oakland – 42-42
                10. Boston – 42-42
                11. Toronto – 42-43
                12. Kansas City – 37-46
                13. Minnesota – 36-47
                14. Seattle – 35-50

Boston is tied for 9th, and Oakland has a better head-to-head record. So WHY are we basing everything around them, just ‘cuz they’re the Red Sox?

    • Mike N says:

You have some information that the rest of us don’t about the outcome of this game, that the Yanks are currently leading?

  323. stuart a says:

    ump sucks big time..

    defense is killing hughes tonight.

mcdonald besides the error, he thinks every pitch is a fastball…

  324. Mattchu12 says:

    That was a beautiful curve.

  325. christopher says:

  326. pat says:

Throw Gomez that pitch again please.

  327. Chris says:

    Don’t throw Gomez a fastball

  328. christopher says:

    Oh, rats.

  329. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

Win or lose, Phil is pitching with balls.

  330. Mattchu12 says:

Gonzalez should have scored there. We just got lucky.

  331. Kramerica Industries says:

    Friggen 0-2 hit.

How many times has Gomez gotten on base in this series? I mean, who the hell is that guy, anyway?

  332. bobtaco says:

Phil deserved better for this one.

  333. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

that was a really horrible 0-2 pitch

  334. Hummingbird S. says:

awful 0-2 pitch… PHil is done, take him out..

  335. Will The Thrill says:

Throwing someone a ball in the strikezone when you have them 0-2. #thingsiwillneverunderstand

  336. pat says:

I’m sorry, but this isn’t some stud first place team we’re playing where we should be happy asfans for a split. This is a last place team playing a terrible stretch of baseball and our rivals. We as fans have every right to want to smush them into the ground.

  337. Tom says:

Don’t mind the fastball, but 0-2 that needs to either be letter high or on his hands….

  338. Cy Pettitte says:

getting beat by Ciriaco and Gomez. are you fucking kidding me?

  339. Widget says:

Who needs Youkilis when you Mauro fucking Gomez.

  340. Brian S. says:

    Oh well.

  341. Hummingbird S. says:

ridiculous call by Girardi playing the infield in… and obviously it backfires.

  342. Kramerica Industries says:

Way to let that asshole kill you.

    Fucking hell.

  343. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

    Son of a bitch

    Thanks Cap

  344. bobtaco says:

    That was so predictable.

  345. christopher says:

La de dah. I guess Rothschild told him the wrong thing.

  346. Karl Krawfid says:

    Shocking! Another fastball!!!

  347. Nathan says:

    Bases clearing double…awesome.

  348. Brian S. says:

Our defense is so fucking bad.

  349. wow says:

    to that guy? really?

  350. Dewayne is Wise says:

Hughes shits the bed once again

    • pat says:

Lol yup. He fucked up routine groundballs and dropped easy pop flies. Also fell on his ass in the outfield.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

inning should have already been over

      • JobaWockeeZ says:

Allowing a minor league free agent to hit a double is his fault.

        • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

Hughes definitely deserves some blame, but the inning should already have been over, and the double was a ground ball that wasn’t hit all that hard

    • Brian S. says:

It is Hughes fault that Granderson can’t catch a flyball, Jeter can’t field a routine ground ball, and Girardi had the third baseman in.

  351. Mike N says:

  352. Hummingbird S. says:

one batter too late… horrible decisions by Girardi.

  353. DERP says:

Where the hell was Nix playing. That ball was not hit hard at all.

  354. stuart a says:

offense and defense totally let down hughes big time…

the multiple gift runs. jeter error and the totally f-ed up mcdonald joke play….

  355. Greg says:

Not upset at all. They already met my quota.

    • Chris says:

Coming from you, this has to be the most ironic comment ever.

      • Greg says:

I’m not going to let you guys get me agitated about my personal confidence.

        • Pat D says:

I’m not trying to agitate you about your confidence, I just find your premise regarding this game to be wrong.

          • Greg says:

Of course I want the Yankees to win. But if they lose this game, its of no consequence.

They already did what I wanted them to do. Even when I wanted them to win 4 this week, I thought 2 against the Rays and 2 in Fenway

    • Pasta Stumbling Sojo (formerly StanfordBen) says:

I thought you said 4 wins. Not that that made any sense to begin with.

      • Pasta Stumbling Sojo (formerly StanfordBen) says:

On the other hand, if this is what it takes for you to understand that losing one game isn’t that big of a deal and doesn’t mean that much, so be it.

      • Greg says:

Even when I wanted 4, I thought the best outcome would be 2 against the Rays and 2 in Fenway. The Sox sweep to the A’s changed that quota

  356. Will The Thrill says:

Of course the Yankees are losing a FOX game.

  357. Ethan says:

seriously? giving up a based clearing double to an AAA guy. C’mon hughes!

  358. Chris says:

I love it when we get beat by AAAA scrubs.

  359. CCs Hammy says:

Hughes sucks. The 0-2 fastball to Gomez was unforgivable. Bury a curveball and get the second out. Just pathetic.

    • Brian S. says:

That was a mistake. But man the defense could have turned five outs between the Granderson drop, the Jeter error, and the Nix not being able to get to a ball down the line.

    • Bunt Gardner says:

      I’m sure you’re an expert.

  360. Ricky says:

this Ciriaco guy is a pain in the ass

  361. Widget says:

Thanks for nothing Hughes and thanks for nothing offense. This is a terribly frustrating game.

  362. rconn23 says:

Hughes got what he deserved tonight. Too many fat pitches to scrub players.

  363. stuart a says:

btw this ballpark is a joke… punto hitting doubles off the wall in left.

a 330 foot fly ball to left center is a double….

yep Hughes sh-t the bed by making Jeter make an error on a routine out and mcdonald being a total fuc-en moron on his f up……

  364. DERP says:

Underrated aspect of that play was Andruw. Took a terrible route to the ball and then didn’t pick it up cleanly.

  365. Mattchu12 says:

Blaming Hughes here is totally batshit crazy. Have you seen the defense today?

    • Kev says:

Offense falling asleep didn’t help either

      • Mattchu12 says:

        Game is far from over.

        • Kev says:

No doubt…but to this point just a lot of shit breaking the wrong way – defensive issues, fading offense, tight strike zone, etc. Hopefully there’s a few more runs left in the tank in these final 3 innings.

    • Brian S. says:

Agreed. Unfortunately it looks like we let them off the hook.

    • CCs Hammy says:

Yeah OK. The 0-2 Fastball to Gomez was everyone else’s fault. And this #77 that he can’t seem to pitch too. He’s a AAA guy all the way.

      • Mattchu12 says:

There’s nothing wrong with an 0-2 fastball, especially when Hughes has a great fastball. And the three run double is totally on playing Nix in when he made that exact same play like a champ a few innings earlier playing a normal depth.

        • Kramerica Industries says:

That’s because of who was at the plate.

No problem playing corners in for a speedy runner. The fact that a weak-ass dribbler was hit in just the right spot is not Nix’s fault, or Girardi’s fault.

          • Mattchu12 says:

Let me clarify, I don’t have a problem with Nix playing in there, but that was just the ball being in the right spot at the right time.

It wasn’t on Hughes, Nix, or Girardi. Just a good hit.

    • Hummingbird S. says:

Yeah, I saw some bad plays, but also saw Cano turn a DP on a rocket, Jones make a diving catch in the OF and some other plays on rockets Hughes gave up.

Yes we can blame him, he was AWFUL tonight/

  366. Dewayne is Wise says:

Logan in as girardi raises the white flag.

  367. Dan in Atlanta says:

Please trade Hughes. After next year he goes FA, and there is no way the Yankees are paying him. Hell the may pass on a 5/6 million plus tag for next year.

  368. Nathan says:

This one is not on Hughes. He didn’t pitch terrible but he wasn’t the problem: it was the defense. It betrayed him.

And other than the first inning, the offense has done nothing.

  369. Mike N says:

Love how the usual suspects arrive here as soon as Red Socks take the lead.

  370. JohnnyC says:

Great idea to pick up McDonald. Useful guy.

  371. Nathan says:

And there is someone in the stands that has a serious hard-on for Nick Punto. Sounds like he wants to marry him every time he comes up to bat.

  372. Will The Thrill says:

Wow. I can’t wait until next year when Hughes is replaced by Pineda in the rotation. At least Pineda who is also a two pitch pitcher can actually dominate.

  373. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

This will rip their hearts out when Yanks come back on their shitpen.

  374. Widget says:

Logan really needs this all star break.

  375. DERP says:

I’d rather mix and match then watch Logan face a righty.

  376. Mr. Pink says:

Nick Punto getting the Miguel Cabrera treatment.

  377. Mike N says:

The Red Socks really only have one leftie in their pen??

  378. Cy Pettitte says:

    walking Punto is unforgivable.

  379. Arya says:

I like how Hughes was victimized by 2 errors and the home plate ump and people are ready to write him off. He did throw some bad pitches to the last two hitters. Perhaps he should have been lifted sooner.

  380. Brian S. says:

    Walking Punto lol

  381. pat says:

Honestly, how many hard hit balls did Hughes give up? Two maybe? I’m open to being corrected, but I just don’t remember many.

    • eephus_pitch says:

He gave up 10 hits in 5 1/3. Two errors didn’t help, but that’s not getting it done.

    • Tom says:

There was a sharp Ortiz single to right, a reasonably hit double to the wall for Ortiz and the hard hit single between SS and 3rd by Mauro (that to me was the killer as it was on an 0-2 fastball)

That and the smash to Cano that he turned the DP on is about all I can remember.

bunt single, 2 bloop hits (Ciriaco and AGon), a routine flyball/310ft double (AGon), and the Ciriaco groundball double wasn’t exactly crushed either.

      • eephus_pitch says:

Bitching about wall-ball doubles is the kind of thing Jake Peavy does. Hughes has to make some adjustments, stop throwing fat pitches on 0-2 counts.
Our guys are just as capable of banging the ball off that wall, and they’re not doing it.

  382. christopher says:

Will somebody please embarrass me with $15 million?

  383. Hummingbird S. says:

Boone Logan, definately not a relief ace

  384. DERP says:

Everyone in our pen walks a lot of batters. Except Wade who is going to AAA after the game.

  385. pat says:

Ortiz just bailed him out there.

  386. Brian S. says:

Unfortunately Lester has been really good lately.

  387. DERP says:

    Logan is useless.

  388. Chris says:

I ask again: has Ortiz made an out yet this series?

  389. Bwahahahaha says:

  390. jA says:

Salty will hit a grammy. Calling it

  391. Nathan says:

    Ortiz is a prima dona.

  392. Mr. Pink says:

I love how the FOX booth constantly ignores the fact that the Red Sox are 9.5 games back. They are going about this game as if the Yankees and Red Sox are neck in neck in the standings.

    • Nathan says:

At least Pedroia isn’t in there right now. The commentators talk about him with such reverence you think that he personally pulled them from a flaming car while driving a truck of milk to an orphanage.

  393. christopher says:

    Nice pitch, loogy.

  394. Cy Pettitte says:

this broadcast is ridiculous. Pedro Ciriaco: American Hero.

  395. DM says:

Bad defense — but 10 hits in 5.1 isn’t good pitching. And you need to pick up your fielders in big spots.

  396. Dan in Atlanta says:

So you take off the 2 runs, Phil gives up 3 in 5.1 and can’t be efficient. Do not want and will not pay. Softer than Charmin, young Kenny Rogers can go away.

Great effort from the team this first half, but there is no way Hughes touches the ball outside of a blowout in the postseason (CC, Pettite, Kuroda, Nova). If you can get something, do it. If not, opition his ass.

    • Brian S. says:

He gave up a soft ground ball down the left field line. I like soft ground balls.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

Take away the errors, and he probably gives up none in the fifth and none in the sixth, and is still in the game having only given up 1 run in 6 innings with plenty left to continue into the seventh.

    • pat says:

Except if you take away the errors and turn them into outs he saves about 20 pitches.

    • Pat D says:

He and Nova have been about the same this year. Hughes has just given up more home runs. Nova has a higher H/9 and BB/9 and a lower K/9.

      So…there’s not much difference there.

      • Pat D says:

Oh, and option his ass for what? More Adam Warren?

      • Tom says:

        GB’s vs flyballs…..

Hughes gets ~33% GB’s, Nova 48%… that makes a big difference.

        • Dan in Atlanta says:

You all are right, a guy with 100 or so starts and a 4.50 ERA in them is the greatest thing ever.

He blows. He is Jeff Weaver Jr. Soft and already decreasing in terms of velocity.

  397. eephus_pitch says:

Salty’s just glad all these strikeouts came against white pitchers. If it had been against Latin players, he’d have to kill himself.

  398. Cy Pettitte says:

Andruw is so hot right now. my god.

  399. pat says:

    Fuck your shit Felix.

  400. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

  401. Kramerica Industries says:

    Lift-off, Andruw.

Lets get some more this inning.

  402. christopher says:

    Andruw 1998 Jones.

  403. bobtaco says:

If Cody Ross’ HR was titanic, what the hell was that?

  404. Nathan says:

Can we declare July 7th as Andruw Jones day?

  405. JobaWockeeZ says:

Andruw makes up for one run that shouldn’t have scored.

  406. Chris says:

    1-run game bitches

  407. Get Phelps Up says:

  408. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

Have a banana Andruw, you earned it.

  409. DERP says:

I bet Andruw is a gentle lover as well.

  410. Tom Q says:

It’s almost as if the Yankees don’t think the game’s over yet.

  411. Mr. Pink says:

Yay! Boston bullpen. Music to my ears.

  412. Brian S. says:

I think we can scratch off a run or two against Boston’s pen.

  413. Chris says:

4 runs in 6.1 innings isn’t “very, very good” McCarver, you geriatric fuck.

  414. pat says:

Not gonna lie, I’m a sucker for dumb commercials and Cal Ripken catching every foul ball at a game amuses me.

  415. pat says:

    Mas Padilla, por favor.

  416. Mr. Pink says:

    Don’t get picked off Russ.

  417. Pat D says:

Greg, going back to some of your comments where you said the Sox getting swept in Oakland changed your outlook for this week.

You do remember that the fucking Orioles are in second place, right? And that through 2 games they’ve been the anti-Yankees and haven’t lost in fucking Anaheim, right?

That’s why these games aren’t giveaways, no matter what position the Rays and Sox are in.

    • Greg says:

I was told on here not to pay attention to the Orioles. Heard that they were no threat at all.

      • Pat D says:

Not by me. Considering that even with their negative run differential they haven’t completely folded yet, they’re just annoying the hell out of me.

    • Kramerica Industries says:

Like I said above, though it may be lost by now:

Boston is tied for the 9th best record in the AL. 4th in the East. Why should we base everything around them, right now?

      • Greg says:

Because they are the Red Sox.

        • Kramerica Industries says:

          That’s insane.

The 2012 Red Sox need to earn the right to have that kind of fear attached to them. A team that’s .500 and 9.5 games behind and three spots behind hasn’t earned that.

Not to mention that they have a friggen mash unit out there right now.

          • Greg says:

It might be insane but its true, whether you like it or not.

            • Kramerica Industries says:

The bigger the cushion between the two, the better.

But there are many teams right now that are closer to the Yankees in the division standings or AL standings.

Don’t be a drone. You’re better than this.

          • Brian S. says:

They have the second best run differential in the division. Once Ellsbury, Crawford, Bailey, Pedroia are back they might be legit. We need them to lose as often as possible right now.

    • Paul VuvuZuvella says:

    • Brian S. says:

I don’t only need the Yankees to win. I need Boston to miss the playoffs again.

  418. pat says:

A Chavy bomb would be a welcome surprise.

  419. Mr. Pink says:

Doubront has been the only Red Sox pitcher capable of keeping us in line. Weird.

  420. eephus_pitch says:

    What the fuck, Jeter?

  421. christopher says:

Well, nice idea, didn’t work out.

  422. Kramerica Industries says:

    WTF Jeter?

Fucking two outs. What the hell was that?

  423. Chris says:

    Nice try, Jeter.

  424. Brian S. says:

Jeter is dumb. And we still owe him 17 million next season.

  425. pat says:

Lol did Albers just call Jeter a “fucking pussy”?

  426. oldmanalex says:

    Need Help:

got two questions for you at RAB

    1) Reggies comments on AROD, out of line or not? and was it ACTUALLY taken out of context ( I think Reggie meant exactly what he said)?

    2) is AROD on the bench, available to hit?

sorry for being so AROD- centric

    • TomH says:

Of course they were “out of line.” He works for / with the Yankees. If he’s going to say that sort of thing about one of their key players during the middle of a season, he ought first to sever his ties to the team.

It was a reminder of just what a jerk Reggie was as a 20 something. He’s one of those people, perhaps, who never gets out of his twenties.

      • oldmanalex says:

yea I agree with your logic. I just hate the fact that Reggie defends himself by saying “it was out of context.” I don’t think you say those things to the media without thinking it through. I liked the way AROD handled it, but rodriguez did admit it changes their relationship, which kind of sux.

  427. Will The Thrill says:

Albers pumped up after Jeter get himself out. Ha.

  428. Hall and Nokes says:

LOL Gamecast thinks Jeter bunted at a pitch six inches inside with two outs. Uh, he didn’t, right?

  429. Karl Krawfid says:

Yankees are gonna win this game and it’s gonna feel so damn good.

  430. Cy Pettitte says:

    no boone

  431. bobtaco says:

    Boone needs a long rest.

  432. Kramerica Industries says:

Gonzalez chose a good night to look like AGon again, eh?

  433. Hummingbird S. says:

boone logan, heckuva job sir.. at least you kept him in the park

  434. Brian S. says:

    Oh God Cory Wade.

  435. Chris says:

Thank god he hit that into the triangle. Nice to see Logan has gone back into being a LNOGY.

  436. bobtaco says:

Anyone have any faith in Wade in this spot?

    • Cy Pettitte says:

if there’s one way to motivate a guy it’s to send him to AAA SWB with no home stadium so I have hope.

  437. Will The Thrill says:

Where the hell is Rapada? We do have a second lefty don’t we?

  438. DERP says:

    Call up Juan Cedeno

  439. eephus_pitch says:

    Cory Wade = white flag

    • whozat says:

Who’s Cory Wade? The TV told me this was Cody Wade, and Fox wouldn’t be so pathetic as to be unable to get the name of a player who’s been on the Yankees for over a year right, would they?

  440. Greg says:

Win tomorrow, you can still have your 3 of 4. If I’m not getting upset about it, and you know how I am, why are you guys upset?

    • Brian S. says:

Because tomorrow is Nova vs. Lester. Lester has been really good lately.

    • Kramerica Industries says:

Because you keep on posting the same thing over and over again.

You tell us that we can’t change your expectations. Conversely, you can’t change any of how we feel about this game or tomorrow’s.

And, I mean, when the hell did a game against Jon Lester become one we think that way about?

  441. Hummingbird S. says:

batting practice pitcher coming up, Red Sox triple-A lineup can’t wait to hit..

  442. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

No matter how this game winds up, Nova will get The W tomorrow.

  443. DERP says:

    jesus christ

  444. Whit Flag Wade in a one run game? Really?

  445. eephus_pitch says:

    “He does everything well”

Suzyn Waldman’s assessment of Nix catching the ball but then dropping it. You can’t make this stuff up.

    • whozat says:

Yeah, guys who “do everything well” have to settle for minor league deals late in the offseason, right?

  446. pat says:

Hamilton has 27 HR before the ASB? Insane.

  447. Cy Pettitte says:

    Cory Wade: not fixed.

  448. Greg says:

    Oh well

  449. DERP says:

Wade is awful. Come back soon Joba.

  450. Kramerica Industries says:

    Sucks to suck, Cory Wade.

  451. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

    So Corey Wade still sucks…

  452. Raise your hand if you DIDN’T see that coming. *Girardi’s lone hand in air.*

  453. Nathan says:

    Wade DFA’d please. Thanks.

  454. Hummingbird S. says:

great idea on that pitch! why not throw a 0-2 fastball right down the middle.. even worse, and 88mph (if that) fastball. What a fucking dumbass

  455. Brian S. says:

  456. pat says:

  457. Karl Krawfid says:

    0-2 fastball folks.

Like clockwork for the Yankees with Ass Martin behind the plate.

  458. DERP says:

I don’t want to see Wade before September 1.

  459. Ron says:

Enough already. How many runs will this trash give up before joe stops giving chances. Semd him on a one way trip to Scranton and forget he exists.

  460. Will The Thrill says:

I’m starting to think that last year was a fluke and that Cory Wade was no good to begin with.

  461. DERP says:

Fuck Wade. I hope he blows out his arm and retires.

  462. The Scheister of Doom says:

Wade and Logan have been garbage as of late, is it sad when I prefer Eppley and Rapada? I now understand the tag, Death by Bullpen.

  463. Brian S. says:

LOL WADE. Thanks for everything but you are done.

  464. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

Maybe try a reliever who can get outs, Joe?

  465. Kev says:

Such is the nature of middle relievers. We should be thankful we got as much out of him as we have.

  466. Nathan says:

Getting beaten not only by themselves but a bunch of no-names? Embarrassing.

  467. DERP says:

Just bean this guy in the head. He can’t hurt us that way.

  468. Hummingbird S. says:

Triple-A players beating triple-A pitchers… in the majors.

  469. Widget says:

we all knew some scrub was going to kill the yankees this weekend. I’d say Gomez is pretty damn scrubby.

I bet Padilla comes in and hits Tex tonight.

  470. “Wadey just didn’t have it tonight. We’re going to work on some stuff with him and hope to get better results next time.”

  471. stuart a says:

wade is a scared joke. He is done.

Logan has been bad for 2 weeks. Girardi thinks logan is the logan blip of weeks ago, he is not…

again bad loss, could have buried these losers…..

  472. Ricky says:

    mauro gomez lol…

  473. Karl Krawfid says:

Boone Logan is headed the way of Wade and Joe G is running his ass into the ground.

  474. Will The Thrill says:

How many balls will get hit past 3rd? Jeez. I don’t know if they’re tired or what. The defense has been little league-esque.

  475. Tom says:

Is Corey Wade in this game had the Yankees lost game 1? I really dislike how Girardi seems to get in the give up mode sometimes.

If he’s down more than 2 or up more than 2 he often won’t nothe to use a Ph on the bench. And in a game down by 1 run, you don’t use the 26th man on your roster.

Even now… down 3 in Fenway with 2 ABs? Why is Wade still in there.

  476. Cy Pettitte says:

this game is a joke now. this is just a pathetic.

  477. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

  478. The Scheister of Doom says:

Wave the white flag, put Wise is and call it a game. He relieved Wade in the last game I watched Wade pitch with better results. Hold it here and keep it a game!

  479. Mike N says:

    Why fucking Wade?

  480. Hummingbird S. says:

what a joke.. time to watch the UFC

  481. bobtaco says:

    DJ MItchell, come on down…

  482. eephus_pitch says:

    “Jayson Nix does EVERYTHING right”

  483. stuart a says:

newsflkash nix cannot play 3rd but we have to rest the old man slap hitting afraud.

arod after all is up to 36 rbi’s so throw him a parade…

get rid of Wade enough. this guy is gas on any fire…..

  484. bobtaco says:

and by the way, why didn’t Chavez come in to play third?

  485. christopher says:

Okay, so this is not going as planned. Still, we can win this game.

  486. next inning, or Nix’s next AB I guarantee that Ma and Pa are talking about how Nix just does everything well, and how he’s a solid player while completely disregarding that play.

    • eephus_pitch says:

You must not have been listening. Right after he made a huge error they launched into “you never expect this from Jayson Nix because he’s been so AMAZING for the Yankees this season.”
They actually used the word “amazing.”

  487. Brian S. says:

Put someone else in. Just to stop them from scoring.

  488. Anthony says:

What is going on down the 3rd base line tonight??? God this seventh inning…

  489. Will The Thrill says:

Hey Boston you’re 9.5 games back. You do remember don’t you?

  490. The Scheister of Doom says:

Fuck it, lets just leave Wade in for the rest of the game, as punishment.

  491. Get Phelps Up says:

I’d rather just watch Ortiz hit 8 solo homers than this shit.

  492. DERP says:

I would rather have called up Betances than Wade. At least Betances could start headhunting if things got out of hand.

  493. Karl Krawfid says:

    Another error.

  494. …at least he has the bases empty now.

  495. stuart a says:

Wades ERA over 6 now.. WOw has he totally fallen apart. he is scared to throw a strike…

this game is a total joke now.

    defense is offensive….

  496. wow says:

i see the Cory “the white flag” Wade is still not letting us down.

  497. Mike N says:

  498. DERP says:

If Gomez or that other AAA guy get up, please throw at them and injure them.

  499. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

Russ keeping up the great D

  500. Get Phelps Up says:

Even with Pedroia gone Fox still manages to slob all over a Red Sock.

  501. Cy Pettitte says:

ok I’ve had enough Wade for a life time. Joba come back soon.

  502. Ricky says:

yup… Gomez, Ciriaco and errors will most likely be their downfall for this game

  503. Giraffe says:

Ciriaco reminds me of Merton Hanks.

    • Paul VuvuZuvella says:

Funny, this came from you, because frankly, his nickname should be giraffe. Guy is a vampire’s dream.

  504. Nathan says:

F this game…d!ck slapped by a bunch of hacks.

  505. Tom says:

So why again was Wade even in this game?

  506. Will The Thrill says:

I think I might vomit at the amount of dicksucking of Ciriaco and Gomez going on in the FOX booth.

  507. Mike Stanley says:

The Ciraco guy has one good hit all night. One. The double. Rest was crap. Whatever.

  508. stuart a says:

nix is doing everything right to about a 240 BA with a OBP of maybe 300…

    he is a career AAAA…

he has been a butcher at 3b tonight.

corey wade is walking nick friggin 180 pun to…….

  509. The Scheister of Doom says:

    I hate this new 26th man rule, I blame Bud Sel…err A–Rod.

  510. christopher says:

You know, four errors is kind of uncool.

  511. Knoxvillain says:

If Russell Martin doesn’t wake up tomorrow morning, I’m throwing a party. Same goes for Wade and Girardi.

  512. Athenian says:

I am guessing that the Yankees won’t be putting on defensive clinics in the near future. Common occurrence since the three error Mets game.

  513. Cy Pettitte says:

    every.single.ball. getting crushed.

  514. DERP says:

Punto came so close to hitting Wade. Just missed

  515. Cy Pettitte says:

If Joe Buck says “the Red Sox, in a game they needed….” one more time….

    • Pat D says:

What else is he supposed to say? He has to make every game seem bigger than it is. His job is hype, not calling the game.

      • Cy Pettitte says:

it’s a game between a last place and a 1st place team 1 game before the all star break. if I didn’t know better I’d think the Yankees and Sox we’re playing game 163 right now.

        • Pat D says:

The Sox aren’t quite in last place.

Also, I’m not able to actually watch this game, so I’ll take your word for it on how ridiculous Buck is acting.

  516. Punisher3000 says:

Please hit Ortiz in the noggin.

  517. flamingo says:

    Yeah, time to pull Wade.

    • Tom says:

It’s just a 5 run deficit… you don’t want to let this game get away.

This is still winnabl, which of course is why Wade was pitching in a 1 run game.

  518. M&M Boys says:

Why was that worthless piece of shit Wade allowed to pitch in a game that was still close? Girardi just gave this one away.

  519. christopher says:

Oh, now Verlander is in the game????!!!!!! Oh, a commercial, sorry.

  520. Get Phelps Up says:

Just leave Wade in to throw at Ortiz.

  521. DERP says:

I’m fine with Wade pitching. Now we know for sure that he won’t pitch in a meaningful game for a long time.

  522. BINNER says:

    That’s what I’ve been screaming…!

  523. The Scheister of Doom says:

Its just one game, go figure the one I attempt to watch in its entirity. Oh well, anything can happen in this rat infested hell hole known as Fenway. Teix must aim the ball back at Padillia if he has the pleasure of facing him IF the top of the 8th ever acutally happens.

  524. Adam says:

Hey, did everyone know that the Red Sox are playing players with high numbers tonight? Had no idea…

  525. Mike Stanley says:

Bad loss for the Cubs today in a game they HAD TO WIN.

You know, because they’re also in last place.

  526. Will The Thrill says:

Would’ve been nice to have this game. Now the Sawx have confidence going into tomorrow with Lester on the mound.

  527. Things the Yankees need to address:
Making sure Wade is never allowed near the mound in a game ever again.

  528. Mike N says:

I am very much not one to second guess the manager, but I am having trouble understanding why you would ever put in the demonstrably worst pitcher in the bullpen in a close game.

    • The Scheister of Doom says:

      But Da Binderr !!11!

    • Mike Stanley says:

Already losing, lot of games in a short timespan…would rather see him used with them losing than with them having the lead.

      • Adam says:

And to be honest, given how effective Wade was last year and for half of this year, is worth the chance at seeing if he can get back on track. Seriously, is one game.

      • Mike N says:

Wade was the extra roster spot for the doubleheader. I cannot comprehend how he was pitching in anything other than garbage time.

  529. The Scheister of Doom says:

Buck gets all orgaismic when the Sox do anything of remote value meanwhile he sounds like Ben Stein when the Yanks score. He is a douchebag.

    • Will The Thrill says:

Argh. It makes me want to stab a baby. “Ciriaco with the game of his life!” “The Red Sox slapping around the Yankees” ” Red Sox showing off their minor league depth”. Just a couple of the worst lines.

  530. Will The Thrill says:

David Ortiz has to be on some kind of PEDs.

  531. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

John Lackey trying to steal that curtain call from Ciriaco.

  532. Tom says:

I just don’t get the Girardi logic here….

If Wade is brought in during a 1 run game because you don’t want to burn a good reliever – why bother bringing Rapada in with a 5 run deficit. Just put Mitchell in and be done with the game (which is essentially what he did when he brought Wade in).

    • Kev says:

      Totally agree

    • DERP says:

      1) Rapada isn’t that good
      2) Probably wanted Rapada to get some work in before the break (might not be needed tomorrow)
      3) Probably wanted Mitchell to have a clean slate

    • JohnnyC says:

Girardi thought Wade would pitch well. That’s the sad truth.

      • Get Phelps Up says:

“I had confidence in Wadey. It just didn’t work out. What can you do?”

      • Mike N says:

If he thought that, then why was Wade sent down in the first place? They had already apparently made the determination that Wade was worse than anyone else on the roster, and the only reason he was here was the double-header roster expansion.

  533. pat says:

So Hard Knocks but with a MLB team?

  534. Captain Gift Basket says:

6 hits, 3 for XBH by the bottom 2 hitters from nowhere – another fine job by the Yanks scouting dept. I hope when they slash payroll that they actually hire some scouts with the savings.

  535. Karl Krawfid says:

    Yankees will win this game.

  536. Get Phelps Up says:

Congratulations to Boston Red Sox infielder Pedro Ciriaco who has been elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

  537. pat says:

Love how the ump has stretched the zone as the game goes on. Players really love that.

  538. Cuso says:

What the hell? Before they blacked us out and sent us to Braves/Phillies we were up 3-0.

    Why aren’t we scoring?

    • Will The Thrill says:

Because Doubront somehow finds a way to keep the Yankees in line.

    • Kramerica Industries says:

      Where do you live, Cuso?

In Tampa Bay, they’re showing Yankees/Red Sox. Since you’re in the Rays market as well, I would think you would also get this game.

  539. Greg says:

All of you disrespect Girardi. My goodness. Why does he have the job and you dont? Maybe because he knows more than you do. Show him some respect.

    • Greg, you know I’m normally on board with his decisions. Rationalize bringing in Cory Wade in a 1 run game, knowing he’s been horrid for over a month.

    • DERP says:

I really like Girardi and think he does a nice job, but this argument is silly.

      • Greg says:

He gets so much flack around here despite the Yanks having the best record in baseball. Its ridiculous

        • Tom says:

Your need to defend him anytime someone has the nerve to question any of his decisions is equally ridiculous.

          • Greg says:

If there is absolutely no logical reason behind a decision by him, then I will criticize him.

            • Kramerica Industries says:

Is this to imply there was even a shred of logic behind bringing in Cory Wade?

I mean, have you watched him pitch since the Yankees were in Anaheim? It’s basically been batting practice.

            • Tom says:

Why did he bring in Wade down 5?

              • Tom says:

Sorry, meant why did he bring in Rapada down 5? (when he let Wade face the lefty Sweeney earlier in the inning)

                • Greg says:

Because he hadn’t been used that day and he knows this game doesnt matter in the long run

                  • forensic says:

The manager who says every game matters and you want to win every game suddenly thinks this intradivision game doesn’t matter in the 7th inning? It mattered to him earlier in the inning and the inning before when he used Logan yet again. Guess he changed his mind in the span of one AB.

                    • Tom says:

Thank you for pointing out the ridiculously inconsistent logic.

This was either a give up game or not.
                      - he used (an overused) Logan when down; if he’s trying to save the pen Logan never enters the game
                      - used Wade to save (?) the bullpen in a game that got closer (only down 1)
                      - used Rapada while down 5 for two batters…. to save the bullpen?

            • forensic says:

Still waiting for that first time, huh?

    • forensic says:

This appeal to authority fallacy sponsored by your king of fallacies, Greg Girardi.

      • forensic says:

Still waiting for your defense of this Greg. Did you stop reading the Philosophy book after Fallacy of the Predetermined Outcome and think you figured it all out?

Or would it have been better if I just posted: FALLACY like you do?

  540. Tom says:

    Padilla getting loose….

    … so you’re saying there’s a chance?

  541. christopher says:

    We can do this Yankees.

  542. Paul VuvuZuvella says:

Come on Nick. A blast and Yanks bring tieing run to plate in this game.

  543. Will The Thrill says:

Granderson playing against a tough lefty killed our offensive flow today. Anyone else agree? We should’ve loaded up on righties like we did in the first game.

  544. Will The Thrill says:

OMG FOX! Please stop talking about Ciriaco and Gomez!

    • bobtaco says:

If Jones hits a grand slam here, I believe they will stop talking about them.

    • Cy Pettitte says:

they both went 3-4 in one game. SSS be damned, that’s all I need to see. Give these scouts a big bonus and induct these guys into the HOF.

  545. christopher says:

  546. Kramerica Industries says:

Ya know, if only for that gift-wrapped 9th run for the Red Sox…

  547. TJ says:

Could Jones have a GS in him today also?

  548. Karl Krawfid says:

PLease use Raul. He has good numbers against Padilla.

  549. Mike N says:

  550. pat says:

These scrubs have 1 good game each and Fox is talking about who should get credit for signing them like they’re some superstars.

  551. So…if Ibanez doesn’t pinch hit here you know that Joe is consciously trying to lose this game.

  552. DERP says:

    Where is Ibanez?

  553. pat says:

Padilla shouldn’t throw Jones a single FB.

  554. Cy Pettitte says:

how many times can you call Jayson Nix Lance Nix.

  555. Mike N says:

    C’mon, Raul!!!!!!

  556. Brian S. says:

Jones only hits solo home runs.

  557. Karl Krawfid says:

What the hell is wrong with Joe G?

Wouldn’t you have Raul hit for Jones and A-Rod hit for Nix?

  558. mike_h says:

apparently Lance Nix plays for the Yankees

  559. Kramerica Industries says:

Why would Ibanez PH BEFORE ARod?

WTF Joe? That’s dumbassery at it’s best.

  560. bobtaco says:

  561. christopher says:

    Oof. Those pop ups hurt.

  562. DERP says:

Can we blame Wade or Girardi for that?

  563. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

    well that was anti-climactic

  564. Karl Krawfid says:

    Game over. Shower time.

  565. Widget says:

3 fucking pitches. terrible. Padilla is certified grade A dogshit.

  566. Captain Gift Basket says:

So why not Ibañez then Arod?

  567. Get Phelps Up says:

Girardi has not had his best game tonight, that’s for sure.

  568. DERP says:

If Jones didn’t hit those home runs, Ibanez would have hit for him.

  569. pat says:

Ah shit, come on DJ. Just show me you’re not a pussy.

  570. bobtaco says:

Now Chavez is at 3B… better late than never, Joe!

  571. yankees7 says:

why the hell didnt he pinch hit arod.

  572. pat says:

Great now we get to hear how Aceves used to be a Yankee and how the Sox took a chance on him and he’s paid them off immensely. Then the commenter here call Cashman an idiot and everybody hates themselves at the end of the day.

  573. christopher says:

It’s easy enough to be a virtual manger sitting on your couch, but in truth, Girardi played that right. The result just sucked.

  574. pat says:

I have a feeling Ross is going to be looking for the CB again.

  575. DERP says:

DJ Mitchell is our third best reliever.

  576. Mike N says:

Again Buck with “the Red Socks *must* win this game”. As opposed to some other games that they didn’t need to win?

  577. Will The Thrill says:

So I’m starting to see Chik-Fil-A advertisements and commercials everywhere but there are no Chik-Fil-A’s within 20 miles of where I live in NJ. What’s up with that?

  578. Get Phelps Up says:

And the Red Sox have leaped 10 games in the standings and are now in first place!!

  579. Get Phelps Up says:

Those fountains in KC are definitely not the biggest in the world.

  580. Cy Pettitte says:

more ridiculous batting stance: Aviles or Youkilis?

  581. Widget says:

    as many errors as hits.

  582. pat says:

Mitchell is actually known to be a very good fielding pitcher. Makes that error pretty surprising.

  583. bobtaco says:

I guess it doesn’t matter who is playing 3B tonight… they are all going to go through…

  584. DERP says:

    Better rookie: Trout or Ciriaco

Close, but I have to give it so Ciriaco

  585. Kramerica Industries says:

Red Sox fans sure are full of themselves over someone they’ll likely forget exists within a month.

  586. JohnnyC says:

They’ll boo Ciriaco mercilessly in a couple of weeks. It’s the Fenway way.

  587. DERP says:

I’m pretty sure that the fans think Ciriaco is similar to Manny Machado as a prospect.

  588. Kev says:

    Why change the pattern now?

This is the third straight season in which the Yankees will play at least one doubleheader against the Red Sox. The teams have split each of the last three doubleheaders against one another with the Yankees winning the first game and losing the second game each time (9/28/08 and 10/2/10 at Fenway, and 9/25/11 at Yankee Stadium). The Yankees?last swept the Red Sox in a doubleheader on August 18, 2006 at Fenway Park.”

  589. pat says:

The Red Sox are just such loyal and knowledgeable fans. Especially the ones yelling racial slurs at Carl Crawford while he’s rehabbing.

  590. Kramerica Industries says:

Seriously. Now ARod is pinch hitting, when he could’ve PH in the 8th with the bases loaded?

WTF kind of logic is that?

    • pat says:

      For whom? Jones or Ibanez?

      • Kramerica Industries says:

I would say Ibanez, because he actually did PH, but I suppose it could work in either case.

He’s the best bat on the bench. To use a lesser bat, “saving” ARod for a situation that likely wouldn’t come to pass (and, lo and behold, it did not) is moronic.

  591. Cy Pettitte says:

I wish Martin hit as well as he tore up towels

  592. yankees7 says:

why arod now. god he confuses me sometimes

  593. Mike Stanley says:

I totally can’t wait for stuart a to blame Alex for not hitting a five-run home run.

  594. Will The Thrill says:

ESPN and FOX can go fuck themselves. Also I’m loving the tough schedule the Red Sox have after the ASG. Rays, White Sox, Blue Jays, Rangers, Yankees, Tigers and Rangers again (after Twins). Let’s see how many games they drop in that stretch.

  595. Get Phelps Up says:

Fox executives are reportedly petitioning Ron Washington for Pedro Ciriaco to replace Jeter as the All Star Game starter.

  596. DERP says:

Ciriaco had three hits. One was a terrible bunt that he popped up that just died when it landed. Another was off a pitch that was in the dirt.

  597. christopher says:

    Love Chavez.

  598. Mike N says:

  599. JohnnyC says:

The real question is if Ciriaco were a Yankee doing this in a game against the Red Sox would Joe Buck still jizz his pants? I think not. He’d probably make fun of his neck with McCarver cackling mindlessly in the background.

  600. pat says:

Fucking asshole Girardi should have used Chavez earlier in the game. NL MotY my ASS

  601. Chavez. Refusing to go down w/o a fight :)

    Embedded Yankee Aceves strikes again.

  602. Widget says:

I still don’t miss Aceves one bit.

  603. bobtaco says:

I’ll take that as some O’Neill theory for tomorrow

  604. Captain Gift Basket says:

Batting Arod down by 5 and the bases empty? Dumbfounding.

  605. Will The Thrill says:

YES! No 1-2-3 inning for you. We’ll be back tomorrow!

  606. DERP says:

    Aceves is one sweaty motherfucker.

  607. flamingo says:

Chavez – still making me glad he decided against retiring.

  608. Since when is that pitch a strike in this game?

  609. DERP says:

    Paul Oneill rule in effect.

  610. Tom Q says:

So, obviously Chavez should have hit for Nix.

/more fallacies than I can even track

  611. Get Phelps Up says:

Bud Selig has announced that Pedro Ciriaco’s #77 will be retired throughout Major League Baseball.

  612. DERP says:

Can we trade Cano for Ciriaco. I’ll even throw in Mason.

  613. Get Phelps Up says:

The Red Sox have just won the 2012 World Series!!

  614. christopher says:

Long day of ball, boys. Nice split. We’ll get them tomorrow. Nite, y’all.

  615. Mike N says:

You’d think these fucks just won the goddamn world series.

  616. DERP says:

I wonder if they will trade Middlebrooks for a utility player and a AAA pitcher to free up ABs for Gomez and Ciriaco.

  617. Will The Thrill says:

What a FOX sports Boy and Girls club commercial with a Yankee player in it? Whaaaa!

  618. forensic says:

Fully expecting Girardi to say in his postgame comments that this game didn’t matter and that’s why he used Wade. Right, Greg?

  619. bobtaco says:

    Go Angels

  620. Betty Lizard says:

Meh. Might as well make a big mess as a little one. Glad I couldn’t watch it.
Cheers for 2-1 and the All Star break.

  621. JohnnyC says:

Based on the way he managed tonight, Girardi must be pretty confident his team will beat Lester tomorrow.
