Game 84: Get Greedy

Yanks take early game behind Garcia, homers
Williams homers in Tampa win
(REUTERS/Jessica Rinaldi)

The Yankees have met their minimum requirement. Realistically, they had to come into this four-game series and manage at least a split to make sure the Red Sox would gain no ground on them in the standings this weekend. Two games in, they already have their split. It’s time for the Bombers to get greedy and create even more separation with Boston. They’re already ten games up in the loss column, time to make it eleven. Here’s the lineup…

SS Derek Jeter
CF Curtis Granderson
DH Mark Teixeira
2B Robinson Cano
1B Nick Swisher
LF Andruw Jones
3B Jayson Nix
Russell Martin
RF Darnell McDonald

RHP Phil Hughes

Tonight’s game starts a little after 7pm ET and can be seen on FOX. Yuck. Try to enjoy anyway.

  • Paul VuvuZuvella

    Greed is good.
    -Gordon Girardi

  • The Moral Majority is Neither

Phil Hughes becomes a true Yankee tonight.

  • Mark in VT

I’d rather bat Swisher 3rd. He’s been much better than Tex lately.

    • forensic

You know Swisher just broke an 0-17 streak in the first game, right? Sounded like Tex was bad in that game, but he was good yesterday when Swisher was terrible.

    • V

      Hehehe

  • forensic

I’m enjoying the multi-run first innings. How about another one?

    • forensic

      Sweet!!! Thank you very much!

      • Paul VuvuZuvella

        Knew you’d like that.

  • Dela G

    let’s sweep this day

  • Kevin G.

I want to sweep the entire series and kill any hopes the Sox had of winning the division

  • Get Phelps Up

Toronto loses. So unfortunately, the Red Sox will not have last place to themselves today.

  • OMG! Bagels!

Read OTM game thread (not to troll, I actually think some of those guys are very funny and I don’t post there). But the first comment about the game past the 1st inning came sometime around 4:00.

They referenced pink hats again. What does that reference mean?

    • pat

      Fake fans.

      • Pasta Stumbling Sojo (formerly StanfordBen)

Because they show up wearing those pink baseball caps that no real fan would ever wear.

  • TomH

Fox? That means the night’s running story will be big-mouth Reggie. What a 32 carat jerk.

  • BK2ATL

Count me in for being greedy. I’m wanting the series sweep to widen the lead. Tampa has issues with Longoria now out indefinitely. Baltimore is making a play for Greinke, and they have the prospects to make it work. Boston is down now, but never out. Toronto is what they are.

Hughes needs to be aggressive against this lineup and not regress. He’s come a long way to this point. This will be a further boost to his confidence. A commanding win in Fenway.

Offensively, we should be able to handle Doubront.

    I’m guessing 7-2 Yanks win.

  • DERP

    Matt Moore sucks.

  • Tom

    Sweep the leg!

    Finish them!

  • Ethan

    God i hate fox broadcasts

    • Paul VuvuZuvella

McCarver looked like he was holding back tears in his opener.

    • Mattchu12

This times infinity. Worst broadcast team in baseball.

  • JobaWockeeZ

Valentine is gift wrapping wins. Another pathetic lineup tonight

    • forensic

He’s got Ross and saltalamacchia back in there, even in addition to Ryan Sweeney. This is nothing like the earlier lineup. This is about the best they can put together right now.

  • Mattchu12

Oh god, I thought it was awful with MLBN last night and this morning, but now I’m stuck with Buck and McCarver? Time to watch the game on mute.

  • Pat D

I’m only able to see this game right now because the Braves and Philthies are in a rain delay. I both hope it rains for a while and stops raining immediately.

  • Mattchu12

Already more innings than last year for Doubrant? His arm is going to fall off by the end of the season, do the Red Sox just not care about anyone in their organization?

  • Paul VuvuZuvella

    Did Jeter swallow a Furball?

  • Andy

Totally at the mercy of the home plate umpire? What does that even mean?

    • Mattchu12

It’s his way of saying he thought it was a strike. It’s also his way of letting new viewers know that he is a douche early on.

      • Andy

Haha as if he has to let anybody know he is a douche

  • pat

    Maurlol.

  • bobtaco

    Nice start…

  • DERP

    good start

    • bobtaco

      even better!

  • Get Phelps Up

That’s not a tough play…stop being a Red Sox apologist, Tim.

  • pat

    DON’T FUCKING BUNT

    • pat

OK Nevermind. Sweep the leg and test the crappy 3B. I like it.

  • JobaWockeeZ

    HAHAHAHAHA.

  • DERP

that didn’t even look like a great bunt. lol at the sox

  • Cy Pettitte

lol at the start of this game. Sox fans must be suicidal.

  • Get Phelps Up

    Wow. Awesome start so far!

  • Cy Pettitte

Teix! holy shit this is awesome.

  • JobaWockeeZ

And it continues. May the 1st inning never leave.

  • Paul VuvuZuvella

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

  • Andy

    FUCK YEAH!

  • Karl Krawfid

    Bam!!!!!

  • bobtaco

    Deja vu, bitches!

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

    TEX!!!!

    also LOLSOX

  • Tom

    Oh hells yeah!

  • Get Phelps Up

    Boston Massacre 2012 part 2.

  • Mike N

    YAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!

    FUCK THE RED SOCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mattchu12

Valentine looks like he’s going to slit his wrists right there on the top step of the dugout.

    • Anthony

      lmao

  • Ethan

    TEX!!

  • bobtaco

It’s really nice when Tex gets hot… so much different feel than the beginning of the year…

  • Hummingbird S.

    this is AMAZING

  • christopher

    Hard working team, right now.

  • Countryclub

I’m a huge Cano fan, but I hate how he jogs to first on grounders. Just looks bad.

  • Dino Velvet

Over/Under on McCarver mentioning 2004 is set at 6th inning.

    • Mattchu12

Way, way, way under. I can’t believe he hasn’t brought it up yet in a rant about how the Red Sox aren’t out of this game yet.

    • Mike N

      UNDER!

    • Cy Pettitte

already brought up how the Sox were 112-6 against the Yankees last year. I found that amusing.

      • Cy Pettitte

        12-6*

  • pat

Legit have never heard of Ciriaco or Mauro. Sad state of affairs for the Sox.

  • DERP
    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

      lmao

  • Mike N

Could these fuckers telegraph any more clearly their disappointment and disgust that the Yanks already have a commanding lead in the AL East and are building on it?

  • Dewayne is Wise

    No mercy
Do not forget hughes is a fly ball pitcher and the sox love their wall. Need more runs.

    • Mike N

If he has the nasty breaking ball working like he has in his last two starts, he’ll get a lot of ground balls and Ks.

  • christopher

    Okay, let’s go Phil.

  • Greg

Did Buck just say Bronson Arroyo will be back?

  • Get Phelps Up

Wait…did Buck just say “Bronson Arroyo on his way back?”

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

      yep

    • forensic

Based on their history, he might have the same chance of returning as Ellsberg and crawford.

      • forensic

        Ellsberg? Ellsbury obviously. Damn autocorrect.

    • Widget

It’s just his way of mentioning every player from the 2004 Red Sox. He’ll mention Lowe and Varitek by the 3rd.

    • Hall and Nokes

Did McCarver try to correct him that it’s Brandon?

  • pat

We had a pretty good rally brewing and typical Tex fuckin ruined it. SMH

  • christopher

No Mariano, no CC, no Andy, no Gardner, no Joba, no Pineada – best record in baseball. Go figure, go Yankees.

    • Widget

      you also forgot no catcher.

    • Mattchu12

And yet the poor Red Sox have injuries and should we should all pity them.

  • Andy

    Small strikezone

    • pat

Yup that first pitch looked like a strike. Same with the first one to Punto. Fuck this ump already,

      • Andy

At least it seems consistent. I thought there were a couple balls called against the Yanks that I would have wanted for strikes.

  • Mike N

I’d much rather listen to announcers who are partisans for one of the teams–even if it’s the Yanks’ opponents–than to assholes that are partisans for the competitiveness of the game.

  • vicki

doubront: ace of the staff? only gave up three.

  • Countryclub

Dante jr with a 3r dinger tonight. Is that his first one this yr?

    • JobaWockeeZ

      2nd

    • Greg

      His second, I believe.

    • Countryclub

      Thanks.

  • JobaWockeeZ

Would anyone like to get Nava out?

  • Cy Pettitte

Buck was more excited about Nava’s base hit than he was about Teix’s HR

  • Widget

come on Hughes, shutdown inning please.

  • Get Phelps Up

Sorry Fox, they DIDN’T get a lead early…

  • Dewayne is Wise

Hughes can not live on just a fastball at fenway

    • Mike N

Let’s hope he’s got the nasty breaking ball working like his last two starts.

  • Mike N

You could hear these fuckers popping wood on that Red Socks hit.

  • Tom

Fox Ford Keys to the Game:

    Boston: Get early lead.

    • Tom

The other strategy they may employ to win this game is to try and score more runs than the other team.

  • Hummingbird S.

comon Phil, dont give it all back

  • pat

HAHA didn’t realize Swish was playing 1st.

    • Dewayne is Wise

Yankees are full of 1st basemen tex swish chaves ibanez nix martin i think even andrew jones has played 1st before too.

  • Hummingbird S.

    ROBBIE!!!

  • Cy Pettitte

    Defense today has been amazing

  • Karl Krawfid

    omg CANO

  • Mike N

    YESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!

  • Greg

Remember folks, this game really means nothing to us.

We’ve done what we had to do here.

    • Widget

liar. You said the Yankees had to win 4 out of the 7 games against the Rays and Red Sox.

      • Greg

I amended that when the Red Sox couldn’t take advantage of our losses against the Rays by getting swept by the A’s

        • Widget

          fair enough then.

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

    Robbie!!!

  • Mattchu12

Remember when they said Cano couldn’t play defense? Lol.

  • Dino Velvet

    Cano ? gritty

    • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

      No. Smoov, with a “v “

  • pat

Too fucking smooth. Goddamn it I’m in love.

  • Pat D

Gotta give Buck props to that one: “Ortiz grounds one into right field for an out.”

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

More runs. Go get em now. Throat stomp.

  • JobaWockeeZ

So yeah remember when Cano was the best option to let walk?

    • Dewayne is Wise

Remember torre want him in la for kemp.

  • OMG! Bagels!

This heat makes the days just drag. I can’t imagine playing baseball in this stuff.

I feel like it’s midnight. Worked today and have to work tomorrow…I need something to give me some energy that is not Red Bull and is not illegal. Don’t know what. 47 iced coffees?

  • vicki

three groundballs. who are you and what have you done with phil hughes?

  • Tom

It’s amazing… he made that play just look ridiculously routine.

Even that back handed flip was a pretty long flip and perfectly on target. (not exactly a tough flip, but he also made that look easy)

  • eephus_pitch

Why does everyone think McCarver hates the Yankees? I’ve never gotten that impression. He’s a terrible broadcaster, but I don’t get the Yankee-hate thing.

    • JobaWockeeZ

Fox is stupid, it’s ESPN that has stupidity and hatred.

    • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

EI was just thinking this too. He’s not a Yankee-hater compared to others.

When people say that about McCarver it gives creedence to the notion that “All fans always think ‘so-and-so’ hates their team.”

There ARE genuine hatred out there, but you have to be somewhat objective in identifying them. McCarver doesn’t pass the smell test as a hater.

  • Countryclub

Have to be happy with that first inning from Phil. He tends to struggle in the first. I’ll take a couple of hard hit balls as long as they lead to outs.

  • pat

I may not know who he is, but I like the way that kid Ciriaco plays SS. Looks very smooth.

  • Greg

Harper going to the All-Star game for Stanton

    • Karl Krawfid

      You’re late.

    • Mattchu12

Some people might not like it, but I think it’s good to see some youth there. Good for the game long term to showcase young talent as well as veteran stars.

      • JobaWockeeZ

Yeah it’ll be nice to see Trout’s first of 18 or something.

  • Ethan

Harper going to ASG? What a joke.

    • Get Phelps Up

Everybody originally on the NL Final Vote ballot except Hill is going.

    • Tom

Have you seen the NL roster?

They have 3 backup 3rd baseman, while I think just 1 backup at 2nd, SS and catcher.

In the last few days LaRussa has replace Molina with an OF, and Ian Desmond with an OF.

    • whozat

      A joke?

      .283 .355 .475, 127 wRC+

      What’s funny about it?

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Why cant Long fix Martin.

  • Paul VuvuZuvella

Good defensive catcher. Hahaha…Nichols effect in action.

  • bobtaco

    Russ!

  • Get Phelps Up

Russ taking a some advise from Stewart.

  • Dewayne is Wise

Come on crabman get him in.

  • Karl Krawfid

Darnell needs to add insult to injury here.

    Yep yep.

  • Tom

Yeah Boston had no use for Youkilis on the bench…. the key was making Bobby V happy.

  • pat

McCarver has such an eye for talent. Giancarlo Stanton stood out to him during ST one year? 6’5″ monster hitting absolute moonshots all over the field. Talk about a diamond in the rough.

Wow Sox are just playing awful baseball right now.

  • Betty Lizard

    A double! Hooray Russell!
And damn you Fox, damn you to hell.

  • Hall and Nokes

Unless I’m mistaken, that’s the fifth time on this road trip that Jeter has scored a first inning run. I think Granderson has 3 or 4 himself.

  • Greg

    two good sliders/changeups by Doubront

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Couldnt make contact fail

  • Widget

This is why you got dumped by the red sox Darnell, you suck.

    • Mattchu12

He got dumped because their organization is literally made out of 5th outfielders right now.

  • pat

Same pitch was called a ball 2x for Hughes.

    • pat

Ok the 2-2 was probably a strike. We’re even.

  • Mattchu12

Felix sure got mouthy right there. That’s not going to endear him with the Ump, which is kind of the opposite of what the Sox need right now.

  • Widget

at least they are making Doubront work.

    • Hall and Nokes

      and are leading by 3

  • Mr. Pink

How many at-bats is it going to take for the Yankees to realize that Doubront is relying on his curve in the dirt in hitters counts?

  • Tom

The ump got both calls to Jeter right…. the Fox off angle shot makes it tough. Strike 2 got the inside corner and ball 3 (or ball 2?) was just off the plate (some umps call it)

  • Monterowasdinero

    Salty not an all star?

I think Russ should give him his spot. Lol

    • Mr. Pink

People take inclusions and exclusions to the ASG way too seriously.

    • whozat

Wieters is better, and Napoli got the fan vote…how many catchers do you need?

      • Paul VuvuZuvella

Just one, otherwise you have to chase the ball all the way to the back fence after every pitch.

    • Ethan

He isn’t worth. 4th best catcher in the AL at best

      • Ethan

        worthy*

  • Andy

    Hughes lookin sharp

  • Dewayne is Wise

Joe Buck really hates NY Teams.

  • Mattchu12

He isn’t getting a lot of calls, but Phil is flat out painting the corner. A lot of these pitches have been borderline ball/strike, and that’s a ton to like about that. I like where he is putting the fastball so far.

  • Chris

Tell me Tim McCarver, how does one have a “soft” 17-game hitting streak?

    • whozat

Well, you hear about people hitting an “empty” .300 when it’s basically all singles. I figure it’s the same thing. If you go 1-4 with a single every day, that’s kinda not actually that great.

    • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

He has 25 hits during the streak – 3 for extra bases.

Rather soft for a first baseman

  • Monterowasdinero

What happened to the Sux batboy? How did he hurt his thumb?

    • Dewayne is Wise

Cutting up popeyes chicken for Beckett.

      • Monterowasdinero

        Peedy does that too?

        Gritty.

  • pat

Who the hell is Cody Ross to do a bat flip? Especially considering how awful their team has been playing.

    • Monterowasdinero

He is their Swish Swagger boy.

    • Mr. Pink

Seriously. No need for it. It’s so pronounced too. It’s not a small gesture. It’s the hitters equivilent of Valverde.

      • Tom

Speaking of which he was apparently doing a dance today after locking down a 4 run lead by only giving up 3 runs.

  • Greg

Both pitchers are getting angry at the ump

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

well game day tells me that Phil should be. ross should’ve been gone on the first 3 pitches. So far blue has cost him 3 pitches in this AB.

  • Mr. Pink

Fox is pathetic. Let’s show a Cody Ross homerun from two games ago disregarding the fact that the Red Sox lost that game and admire it.

    • bobtaco

In fairness, it was “titanic”… lol…

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Nice effort there russel

  • jjyank

I really need to start paying for cable. Being blacked out on MLB.TV sucks. Can someone give me a quick recap? I suppose I could just look at gameday, but I won’t get the context that only RAB commenters can provide :D

    • Pat D

      Teix went boom.

Both starters feel they’re getting squeezed.

      • jjyank

All three runs on that? Sweet. How do Hughes and Doubrant look?

    • bobtaco
      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

clicked your link and it’s telling me I shouldn’t have clicked your link. Also, I hope for your sake Mike’s not around…you just broke rule 1.

        • bobtaco

Why? does Mike have something against internet security?

remove the dots after the url, that’s what is messing it up

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

derp I thought it was a streaming site…

    • Get Phelps Up

Tex with a 3 run homer in the 1st after some Red Sox defensive misplays. Andruw just made a fantastic diving catch. Hughes induced a DP from Punto in the 1st.

      • Get Phelps Up

Also, Bronson Arroyo is back with the Red Sox.

      • jjyank

Muchos gracias senor. I shall return to doing my thing (bars) while attempting to dodge the still insane heat wave. I’ll check back later for another update when I see the score change. Thanks guys!

    • Tom

The Yankees also exploited future Red Sox HOF 3rd baseman Mauro Gomez – Jeter hard hit grounder for both a fielding and throwing error and Granderson dropped a bunt single down on him.

Then Tex went boom to dead center.

  • Pat D

Shit, I’m going to lose the game in about 5 minutes.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

      You’ve already lost the game.

      • Pat D

        Damn Phillies’ fault.

      • Pat D

Oh, that game? I thought that was over.

      • Rocky Road Redemption
  • Hall and Nokes

Arguably per pitchfx, Hughes threw nine strikes to Ross.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Yep, and according to pitchfx, he struck him out on three pitches.

  • whozat

    Andruw!!!

didn’t think he still had that in him

  • Karl Krawfid

    Defense babY!!!!!!

  • Mattchu12

I love how Andruw just has that “yeah, you saw that shit,” grin on his face whenever he does something right. That guy is a character.

  • Cy Pettitte

holy fuck Andruw. he is having some day.

  • Mr. Pink

I would’ve been so pissed if Andruw didn’t make that catch.

  • pat

Fuckin Jonesy. Just making a mockery of the sport. You see that smile? Disrespecting Flanny I tells ya.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Idk why but you made me think of this: http://www.theonion.com/articl.....hit,10792/ possibly my favorite article ever.

  • Ivan

Andruw is playing like its 1996 or something…

  • pat

Jones covered a lot of ground there? Ummm looked like 5 or 6 steps. Hah.

  • Mr. Pink

I don’t think it’s possible for the FOX booth to be any more anti-Yankee/pro-Red Sox.

  • Chris

Wow. At least this home plate ump sucks for both sides.

  • Hummingbird S.

comon offense, dont go to sleep

      • Monterowasdinero

The same one he gave her last time?

  • Mr. Pink

Grandy should’ve gotten this game off too. Doubront is a tougher lefty on lefties IMO.

  • Mr. Pink

A Red Sox pitcher bitchin’ about the strikezone. What else is new?

  • Andy

This Gomez clown is hitting the shit out of the ball

    • Mr. Pink

That will happen when you throw a fastball down the middle early in the count.

This inning sure is shaping up to be shit. The offense gives Doubront a freaking easy inning and now Phil is about to explode. COme on with this crap.

    • pat

      Yeah, no.

  • Mr. Pink

I’ll happily trade a run for a DP against the Sox.

        Then which one is?

        • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

clearly has to be “The Trop”

        • vicki

          trop?

          • Paul VuvuZuvella

Looks like we have a quorum.

            • Tom

Only if they paint the various catwalks in tropical colors to give it a Florida type feel… maybe use the color scheme of the Marlins?

      • pat

Beloved by people who don’t have to watch these atrocious 4+ hr marathons.

  • Mr. Pink

Would you guys say Hughes is the weak link in the rotation?

    • pat

A couple wall scrapers off the wall in left and a tiny strikezone. Comeon now.

    • whozat

Over David Phelps or whoever takes the 5th slot? Absolutely not.

    • Dewayne is Wise

At fenway a righthander whp throws high fastball = 4+ run innings. Watch him groove the high fastball.

    • Frank

A straight FB and marginal secondary pitches. It’s just a matter of time before he’s gone in this game.

  • whozat

I was at that game in Oakland, and Ortiz did drill the shit out of that homer.

Nice job, phil. Way to minimize the damage

  • Tom

That’s got to be at least 4 or 5 doubles that are probably routine outs this series. (there were at least 3 in the first game against Kuroda that were very routine flyballs)

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

This ball park has charm though.

    • Mr. Pink

This is the norm at Fenway. This is why with this pitching I don’t see the Red Sox contending for the AL East pennant for years. Unless they acquire pitching somehow.

  • Brian S.

Hughes just wanted to get Ortiz out of the way for next inning.

  • christopher

Thunk! it’s one of the unique sounds in baseball, a ball smacking the Monster at Fenway. But A Yankee Thunk sounds better than a Sox Thunk!

  • Tom

Good grief… are the Fox announcers banging the scoreboard operators (not that there’s anything wrong with that), do they really need that much airtime?

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I really don’t understand swinging at anything but a fastball straight down the middle after a four pitch walk.

  • whozat

That was a really nice play. Damn!

  • pat

Yeah that kid’s pretty clean out there. I like that.

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

    damn … nice play

  • Dewayne is Wise

That boston ss is so thin if he turns sideways he disappears.

  • Chris

This Ciriaco kid, I like the cut of his jib

    • Tom

Ciriaco is the SS of the future

      /Gammons’d

      • Chris

Jose Iglesias wants to have a word with you.

  • Mr. Pink

Doubront is starting to piss me off with all his prissiness and his blantant complaining about the strikezone. I feel like he’s gonna start getting generous calls.

    • Tom

Well when you are on staff with Lester (who will just stare down umps early in the game to get calls later) and Beckett (who will do the same); it’s not hard to figure out where he picked it up.

      • Mr. Pink

Umps shouldn’t take that shit. Eject those motherfuckers!

    • Frank

In fairness to Dubront, Tim Timmons has a postage stamp sized strike zone, but he is consistant.

  • Paul VuvuZuvella

    Is Ciriaco nicknamed giraffe yet?

  • pat

Lol, Jones is a big dude to be barreling down on you at 2B.

  • Dewayne is Wise

Tony Romo a better QB than Eli Manning? discuss

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Dwayne Wise a better pitcher than CC Sabathia. Discuss.

    • pat

He puts up gaudier numbers but seemingly not when it matters most.

      • Dewayne is Wise

If they switched teams Romo was with the Giants would he be better?

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

He also has a much better supporting cast. Manning has turned Nicks from a very good receiver to an all pro receiver and Cruz from a 4th receiver to a stand out. Romo has great receivers who ever is throwing them the ball.

        • Dewayne is Wise

Romo plays a different type of offense than Eli and the Giants Wr Options where the QB and Reciever read the defense and decide the rout to run. Eli has mastered it, could Romo?

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I honestly don’t know. I mean I’m not a Romo so idk what kind ability he has to memorize an entire team’s defense and be able to call it out on the line.

    • Chris

Amani Toomer is just an attention whore.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

That Jason Nix…everytime he plays he does something great.-John Sterling, every time he sees Nix.

    • eephus_pitch

You just wait until Darnell McDonald does something. He’ll be the new darling.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Thank god. I cannot wait for them to get of Nix/Stewart’s dick.

        • eephus_pitch

That is provided, of course, that McDonald actually does something.

          • eephus_pitch

This was not the kind of “something” I was hoping for.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

wow…Sterling is god awful. He just called the 2-1 a cutter or fastball. It came in at 86 as a change.

    • Mr. Pink

That’s why I dread FOX and ESPN Yankee games. The alternatives are just as bad.

  • JobaWockeeZ

    I miss the Posada era.

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Hey Russ, it’s OK to take that bat off of your shoulder.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

He would’ve figured out a way to hit into a double play.

  • bobtaco

So Dubront is at 73 pitches through 4, should be gone by the 6th or 7th, hopefully…

  • Dewayne is Wise

I would rather see stewart everyday than this version of Martin.

  • Mr. Pink

I think Doubront is on his way to joining the ranks of hated Red Sawx players such as Pedroia, Manny Ramirez, Youkilis, and Papelbon. Something about him just irks me.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

wow…he’s entering the hatred pantheon. I mean I’m only listening on the radio so I’m not seeing his demeanor, but he must look like a douche.

    • Paul VuvuZuvella

You’ll hate them all by September.

  • pat

Chavy Jonesy and Nixy. HAh fuckin Joe is trolling us.

    • Tom

      Did you notice though…

      a “Freddy Garcia”

      …apparently Freddy’s name can’t be converted?

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

this park is such a joke

  • Cy Pettitte

Phil + wall = not good

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Hate that fucking wall.

  • Brooklyn Nets

Do you guys remember how excited we all were when Hughes was a prospect, 21 years old in 07, pitching a no-hitter against Texas? He was doing it with a 4 seam fastball 92-94 topping 95. A beastly curve. And a 91-93 2 seamer tailing away from lefties.

Then he went to the pen and learned that ABOMINATION of a cutter and he was never the same.

Good to have our top prospect back. He’s 26 btw.

    • Dewayne is Wise

Got hurt in Texas as did Joba , I hate that park as much as this one

    • Paul VuvuZuvella

I blame pitching coach, manager and catcher, not the 24 year old kid.

    • Brian S.

      Actually he’s 25.

      • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

        turned 26 on June 24

  • Chris

    Seriously? Fuck this ballpark, man.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Fastball fastball fastball.

    I mean come on Hughes.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

      ?
he threw back to back curves before the double

  • pat

Phil throw a fucking offspeed pitch please. They’re gonna play wall ball all fucking day out there.

  • Get Phelps Up

    God damn wall.

  • whozat

    Man, I hate that wall.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Jones is settling under it, and he ma…it bounces high off the wall for a double-John Sterling.

  • Mattchu12

“When Adrian hits the ball to left field as a left hander, he looks like a right handed pull hitter.” Dumbest statement of the night?

    • Mr. Pink

Dumbest statement of the night…so far.

      • Paul VuvuZuvella

Although he was quoting someone. Still dumb.

  • DERP

lol at this fucking little league park.

  • Mr. Pink

There’s the flyball Phil I know (and hate).

  • DERP

that was right down the middle

  • Greg

Both pitchers are approaching pissed off level.

    • Mr. Pink

I think Hughes isn’t as dramatic about it and seems to brush it off.

  • Hummingbird S.

damn, what a play by Nix

  • Mattchu12

Look at the arm on Nix! Wow.

  • Cy Pettitte

pretty impressive throw, Nix has some arm

  • Brooklyn Nets

Hughes would have a shutout in any non-little league park and in some little league parks in my area.

  • Chris

The Yankees are putting on a defensive clinic today.

  • bobtaco

Finally a throw that Tex didn’t have to dig out

    • Mattchu12

      That’s Swish.

    • pat

Thankfully he didn’t throw it to Tex in the dugout.

  • JobaWockeeZ

    That was a good impression.

  • Brooklyn Nets

That 2 seamer he’s throwing as some ridiculous movement.

  • Paul VuvuZuvella

Tell me again why Nix can’t be the long term answer as utility guy ?

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

because his bat is Ramon Pena w/ a slightly drier newspaper.

      • Greg

Not even close. Nix can hit for power, unlike Pena

        • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

          hence the slightly drier newspaper

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Ramiro* god I need to go to sleep. going on 7 hours of sleep in the last three days.

  • Brooklyn Nets

    That curveball is just filthy.

  • eephus_pitch

    Most annoying John Sterling-ism?
Whenever the Yankee SS or 3rd baseman has to make a long throw to first and he says “the LOOOOOOONG throw to first.” Don’t be go friggin’ melodramatic.

And as I type this, Suzyn reminds us that Jayson Nix is “a baseball player.”

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Dude…I’m just throwing it out there…we could kill them and make it look like accident.

      • pat

Or the police wouldn’t be able to arrest anyone because millions of Yankee fans have motive.

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

“Officer…how could you say it was me? I’m far from the only person to plot their murder online. Seriously google kill John and Suzyn.”

          • eephus_pitch

I’d like them to both be killed in a tragic piano bar fire. No one would ever have to know.

            • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

              I like it.

  • Tom

“The Red Sox don’t want to go into the break down double digits”

Doesn’t get much better than the Fox crew.

  • Brooklyn Nets

Anyone else think that if Elvis Andrus was a Yankee Sterling would totally go with

    ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING!

  • Cy Pettitte

how does Fox still not have pitch count displayed with the score?

    • bobtaco

Yes! so annoying… Phil is at 64 now through 4… Doubront is at 73.

  • bobtaco

Nice inning… keep throwing up the zeros, Phil!

  • Get Phelps Up

If Hughes stops inducing routine flyouts to left he’ll be fine.

    • Brooklyn Nets

Don’t think he can help it.

  • Mr. Pink

Joe Buck now apologizing. Love it.

  • DERP

This ump can go himself after the game.

    • DERP

Swish doing his best Tex impressions.

  • Andy

That has been a ball all fucking game.

  • JobaWockeeZ

That’s a draft story I don’t want to hear. Ever again.

    • Paul VuvuZuvella

      Ugh

  • Cy Pettitte

zone has been so tiny all night and then the ump calls that a strike? come on.

  • Mattchu12

    Huh? That’s a strike? WTF?

  • Get Phelps Up

Wow…I wish Hughes would get that pitch.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Low strike. Bullshit.

  • eephus_pitch

Someone remind Jeter he can still hit lefties, please.

  • Tom

Looks like the staredowns worked… hate that shit (like I said earlier, Lester does that all the time)

  • oldmanalex

Tim Mcarver put his foot in his mouth.

By discussing “locks for love”, do they do business… o man that was bad.

  • Hummingbird S.

    offense looks dead..

  • eephus_pitch

Curtis vs. Lefty breaking ball: A Tragedy in Three Acts

  • christopher

One thing about Valentine, he should not sit down at a poker table.

  • Mr. Pink

I’m going to laugh so hard when Bobby V gets the boot from Boston.

    • Dino Velvet

      what did he do?

  • Brian S.

Hughes better get that fucking pitch from now on.

  • bobtaco

Doubront at 85 pitches through 5.

  • Cy Pettitte

Swish! defense today has been so good. loving this.

  • Paul VuvuZuvella

    Filthy curve all night.

  • Mattchu12

Joe Buck: “I wanna illustrate how good Phil Hughes was as a reliever, maybe I should reference his win-loss record. Yeah, that’s how you do that.”

    • OMG! Bagels!

I want to illustrate what an idiot Joe Buck is. Joe, please speak one sentence into the microphone.

  • Brooklyn Nets

    LOL

  • Kramerica Industries

    That was a Vlad-like hit.

  • Greg

    Damn. I want this guy

    • Mr. Pink

Ditto. From what I’ve seen so far he’s a gamer.

  • Mr. Pink

    Ciriaco with an Aybar-esque hit.

  • DERP

LOL at this stupid fuck getting lucky like that

  • pat

Lol of course this scrub flips a pitch into CF. It practically fuckin bounced first.

  • Chris

Get this Vlad Guerrero impersonator out of here

  • Nigel Bangs

    Another garbage Fox replay. Yeesh.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    Lolfense.

  • Cy Pettitte

    wow what the fuck Darnell

  • Mattchu12

I remember when Ichiro lined a pitch to Jeter that bounced. It actually bounced.

  • DERP

    Come on McDonald

  • whozat

    Embedded Red Sox?

  • Greg

    That’s on Grandy

    • Brian S.

I said that on another blog and was BOMBARDED with people that are only Yankee fans because they want to suck Granderson’s cock.

  • Kramerica Industries

Well, that was a bad time for the defense to abandon the Yankees.

    • whozat

That was Curtis shying away from the idiot running at him, despite him calling for it.

      Sorry, DFA McDonald…

  • Chris

    Darnell McDonald: Embedded Red Sock

  • bobtaco

OK, DFA McDonald after the game. Enough of this.

    • Greg

That’s on Grnady. He whiffed it

      • pat

With McDonald jumping out of the way at the last second. Certainly didn’t help.

    • Tom

Platoon advantage…. quality of player is irrelevant, the binder dictates platoon advantage is the key.

      • whozat

Good defender, career .345 wOBA against lefties. Yanks facing three lefty starters in the series.

That’s definitely better than Ibanez or Wise, so…

  • Get Phelps Up

    Uhhh…

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

    WTF
    ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?

  • Hummingbird S.

    pathetic… grandy cant do that

  • Karl Krawfid

    Jesus Christ.

  • Widget

Yankees are going to blow this game. Pathetic.

    • Greg

Doesnt matter. We did what we had to do here

      • Hummingbird S.

        ok, captain.

  • Brooklyn Nets

    Terrible

  • pat

    Jesus Christ. Come on now.

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

    that’s a strike

  • Greg

Guys. dont get upset. This game means nothing at all

    • Tom

      Why are you here then?

And why do you keep repeating it?

    • Mr. Pink

What the hell are you talking about! Every game matters. Especially in the ALE!

      • Greg

We took our 2 already. We’re not losing any ground that we had coming in

        • Pat D

          Foot on throat, my friend.

          • Greg

The difference between want and need is very different

            • Kramerica Industries

With these four game series, especially when the Yankees win the first game, or two, I always eliminate those games and look at it as a two game series or three game series.

In that vein, this is a two game series. At worst, you wish to split a two-gamer, no? And a split is easier if you win the first game.

            • Pat D

Bullshit, man. You can’t just be willing to accept a potential loss.

They’ve given away a few games already this year and lost some they might regret (those games against the Twins and Royals), so every game is a need.

Besides, a 3-4 road trip is not a success.

              • Kramerica Industries

Furthermore, even if the Red Sox aren’t the chief focus, tonight is a chance to gain another game on the Rays (lost already) and possibly the Orioles.

As well as keeping with the Rangers for best record in the AL.

No one needs to delude themselves. This game is not an exhibition game, and should not be treated as such. Hopefully, the Hughes and the pen can hold the fort down, because the the O has gone to sleep since the first inning.

    • Hummingbird S.

We get it, you think they only needed to win 2.. stop repeating it every goddamn comment

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Oh. My. God. Were is Talapia? Greg is trying to talk people off ledges?!

  • Dewayne is Wise

Cut crabmans ass get my boy Wise out there.

  • Mr. Pink

Argh Grandy. I don’t even know why he’s playing with a tough lefty out there.

  • bobtaco

    WHAT?! Fuck this ump.

  • Brooklyn Nets

    Where are these pitches missing

  • DERP

This ump should go kill himself after this game. I know I would if I was this bad at my job.

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

    this umpire is absolute garbage

  • Andy

What is up with this strike zone. Absolutely miserable.

  • Chris

Where the fuck was that 1-0 pitch?

  • Get Phelps Up

I hope Martin “accidentally” misses a fastball.

  • Greg

I dont care if McDonald is coming in. Grandy has to catch that

  • Brooklyn Nets

SURE load the bases for ORTIZ

  • DERP

Safe to say that getting Punto is absolutely huge

  • Widget

This ump clearly grew up a red sox fan.

  • Karl Krawfid

    4 out inning.

  • Brooklyn Nets

    That run is unearned, correct?

  • Brian S.

Oh wow he actually caught it this time.

  • DERP
  • wow

juts got home and I can’t watch the game thanks to the Braves. Once again, thank you, FOX for your out-of-date blackout rules.

  • Chris

Has Ortiz made an out yet this series?

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Hughes giving it up.

    • pat

His fault Grandy dropped a can of corn?

  • pat

Ugh, if fucking Salty comes through here I’ll rage.

    • pat

      Rampage averted. Carry on everyone.

  • Mr. Pink

Hey look, Swish is recruiting Big Papi for us.

    • Nathan

      Do not want.

As good as Ortiz is, he whines and moans too much. Besides, Yankees don’t need another DH.

  • Andy

It is so clear how excited Joe Buck is that the tying run is on third

  • Cy Pettitte

    nice Phil

  • DERP

    Nice job by Hughes

  • Kramerica Industries

    Sit the fuck down, Salty.

  • Mattchu12

    Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuughes.

  • bobtaco

OK, not bad Phil, not bad… now put Neck-too on the bench.

  • Chris

    Thanks for whiffing, Salty.

  • Adam

    Hughes is mince-meating Saltalamacchia tonight.

  • christopher

Old Fenway is a tough playground. Hang in there. Phil.

  • Mike N

    Hughes is hanging tough!

  • Tom

Good job picking up the D (after the D picked him up earlier).

bloop hit, error, sac fly… could have been better, but in this joke or a park a routine flyball to LF could have given Boston the lead too.

  • Brooklyn Nets

Can someone explain how that run isn’t unearned?

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

      it is unearned

    • Tom

It is, they probably just haven’t update it yet…. sometimes the unearned runs lag a bit on gameday

  • bobtaco

Phil now at 86 pitches, one more than Doubront through 5…

  • Brian S.

I fucking hate fans that have favorite players that think they can do no wrong. Granderson fucked up there.

    • Get Phelps Up

      They both fucked up.

      • Brian S.

Sure. But it hit him right in the glove. I can blame both of them.

    • pat

So McDonald had nothing to do with it?

      • Brian S.

I never said that. But Granderson also fucked up.

    • Mattchu12

I’d be first to admit that Granderson messed up, but it can’t be easy to make a play like that when out of the corner of your eye it looks like McDonald is going to run into you.

  • Hummingbird S.

I dont get this ump. You have 10 pitches in the same spot, 5 are balls and 5 are strikes. How does that work?

  • Mr. Pink

I feel like Doubront should’ve been out of this game a long time ago. He’s been barely getting by and being just efficient enough to keep pitching.

  • christopher

Okay, a red carpet show for baseball is a little bush league for my taste. What are we going to do? Discuss who designed Jeter’s suit?

  • Nigel Bangs

    Good scouting.

  • Widget

This is just pathetic. The offense better show up tomorrow.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

      or else what?

      • Widget

They’ll lose and I’ll be sad.

  • Brian S.

    LOLffense.

  • Nathan

Has that double pick-off move ever been successful?

    • Brian S.

YES. I saw it earlier this year.

  • christopher

I must be watching a different broadcast. My TV says the Yanks have the lead.

  • Chris

Shut up Joe Buck, is Fenway Park is to MLB Ballparks as Khloe Kardashian is to the Kardashian sisters.

I can’t believe I just used that analogy.

    • Mattchu12

Has had a lot of drunk guys in it? Yeah, that was mean. To Fenway.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I know this is really greedy, and unlikely…but hopefully Hughes can some how get us 6 more outs w/o allowing another run…and then we can go to Roberston and Soriano. Even if it’s only 3 then we can use Logan in the 7th…

  • Dewayne is Wise

Wow fenway is beautiful? Yeah it smell wonderful too like underwear with a load in it thats been rotting in a locker for a year.

  • Greg

Its unbelievable that you guys cant tip the cap to Doubront. He’s a tough lefthander. He has settled down well.

Bottom line, you cant blame the offense all of the time

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

His stuff is nasty, don’t get me wrong, but he’s also working with a tiny ass strike zone which would usually benefit the batters…and it hasn’t yet.

    • Widget

sure we can. Hard to tip your cap to a guy that has been given a different strikezone than Hughes. Especially one that is clearly favoring the home team.

    • Tom

They have 3 hits off the guy… one of which is a bunt single.

      • Tom

So jam shot on a good pitch, error, popup.

Could easily have been a 1-2-3 inning.

Last inning was jam shot, error, sac fly (what could have been another 1-2-3 inning)

    • Brian S.

      Doubront actually sucks

  • Brooklyn Nets

    How is that DM’s error?

    • whozat

When you almost run into the guy catching the ball, it turns out people can see that and realize that you were the problem, not the guy you were running at.

  • Tom

    47 pitches through 2 innings
48 pitches through the next 4

I realize Doubront has settled down a bit and is pitching better, but he should have been out of this game after 5 or 6 innings.

  • pat

Clearly Curtis Granderson is the Official Scorer’s favorite player.

  • whozat

    ffffffuuuuu

  • Brian S.

    Fuck you Jeter.

    • eephus_pitch

“Jeter doesn’t make the flashy play, but he makes every routine play.”

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Are you fucking kidding me? Wow…Lolfense as I leave for the bus :(

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

    WTF Captain

  • Kramerica Industries

    God almighty.

    Defense really abandoning now.

  • pat

Have they hit a ball hard all day? Off the top of my head the Ortiz single last inning was the hardest.

  • Dewayne is Wise

    Jeter really?

  • Widget

bye bye lead. Thanks Yankee defense.

  • bobtaco

There’s been some great defense, and some atrocious defense…

  • Get Phelps Up

    Stupid defense.

  • Nathan

    Dear Boston,

We feel sorry for you guys. Here, have a gift wrapped game on us.

    Signed,
    The Yankees

  • Will The Thrill

Wow. The defense is seriously letting Hughes down today. They’re making him work extra hard for outs now.

  • Chris

As good as the Yankees played in the first half of this game, that’s how not good they’ve played in the second half.

  • Brian S.

This game has not been fun.

  • Widget

That pitch right there is a strike for Doubront. Screw you Greg :)

  • Ethan

Hughes seems to be getting squeezed

  • christopher

    Let’s go Phil.

  • Greg

Besides, the percentages say we shouldn’t win this game anyway. My double headers are usually split.

And since we did what we had to do by at least splitting this 4 game set, I’m not that upset. And neither should you guys

    • Kramerica Industries

The logic of going for the jugular is totally lost with that line of reasoning.

And I already gave plenty of more reasoning above.

      • Greg

I was hoping for at least a split. Anything after that is gravy.

I’m not going to let you guys or this team get me frustrated when they have met my expectations

        • Kramerica Industries

          Fine.

Most of us are hoping for even more now that the basic expectations have been met. It would feel disappointing if the Red Sox split after the Yankees won the first two games.

Didn’t you expect a 4-3 roadtrip, by the way? A split means 3-4.

          • Greg

As I said earlier, I changed my quota once the Sox got swept by the A’s and didn’t take advantage of our struggles against the Rays.

            • Kramerica Industries

The Orioles and Rays have better records in the division.

The Rangers are up there for best record overall.

Anaheim and Chicago are also very good, record-wise.

All of them are better than the Red Sox in that department, right now.

So, again, always basing things around Boston is just ignorant. Sorry, but there are many teams with better records right now. Teams that have not lost 7 of 9 games.

              • Kramerica Industries

Here are the best records in the AL, top to bottom:

                1. New York – 50-32
                2. Texas – 50-34
                3. Chicago – 47-37
                4. Anaheim – 46-38
                5. Baltimore – 45-38
                6. Cleveland – 44-40
                7. Tampa Bay – 44-41
                8. Detroit – 43-42
                9. Oakland – 42-42
                10. Boston – 42-42
                11. Toronto – 42-43
                12. Kansas City – 37-46
                13. Minnesota – 36-47
                14. Seattle – 35-50

Boston is tied for 9th, and Oakland has a better head-to-head record. So WHY are we basing everything around them, just ‘cuz they’re the Red Sox?

    • Mike N

You have some information that the rest of us don’t about the outcome of this game, that the Yanks are currently leading?

      • Greg

        Not anymore

  • stuart a

    ump sucks big time..

    defense is killing hughes tonight.

mcdonald besides the error, he thinks every pitch is a fastball…

  • Mattchu12

    That was a beautiful curve.

  • christopher

    nasty

  • pat

Throw Gomez that pitch again please.

  • Chris

    Don’t throw Gomez a fastball

    • Greg

      He just did

  • christopher

    Oh, rats.

  • Paul VuvuZuvella

Win or lose, Phil is pitching with balls.

  • Mattchu12

Gonzalez should have scored there. We just got lucky.

  • Kramerica Industries

    Friggen 0-2 hit.

How many times has Gomez gotten on base in this series? I mean, who the hell is that guy, anyway?

  • bobtaco

Phil deserved better for this one.

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

that was a really horrible 0-2 pitch

  • Hummingbird S.

awful 0-2 pitch… PHil is done, take him out..

  • Will The Thrill

Throwing someone a ball in the strikezone when you have them 0-2. #thingsiwillneverunderstand

    • eephus_pitch

      That’s a Hughes specialty.

  • pat

I’m sorry, but this isn’t some stud first place team we’re playing where we should be happy asfans for a split. This is a last place team playing a terrible stretch of baseball and our rivals. We as fans have every right to want to smush them into the ground.

    • pat

And another fucking scrub gets a big hit. The Red Sox way.

      • Chris

I thought that was the Ray’s way?

  • Tom

Don’t mind the fastball, but 0-2 that needs to either be letter high or on his hands….

  • Cy Pettitte

getting beat by Ciriaco and Gomez. are you fucking kidding me?

  • Widget

Who needs Youkilis when you Mauro fucking Gomez.

  • Brian S.

    Oh well.

  • Hummingbird S.

ridiculous call by Girardi playing the infield in… and obviously it backfires.

    • bobtaco

      Totally agree.

    • Tom

      What are you talking about?

The guy bunted for a single – Nix was in to respect the bunt.
2nd and SS were back for a DP.

      • Brian S.

Bunt with Gonzalez on third base? They can’t squeeze him in he’s slow.

  • Kramerica Industries

Way to let that asshole kill you.

    Fucking hell.

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

    Son of a bitch

    Thanks Cap

  • bobtaco

    That was so predictable.

  • christopher

La de dah. I guess Rothschild told him the wrong thing.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Shocking! Another fastball!!!

  • Nathan

    Bases clearing double…awesome.

  • Brian S.

Our defense is so fucking bad.

  • wow

    to that guy? really?

  • Dewayne is Wise

Hughes shits the bed once again

    • pat

Lol yup. He fucked up routine groundballs and dropped easy pop flies. Also fell on his ass in the outfield.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

inning should have already been over

      • JobaWockeeZ

Allowing a minor league free agent to hit a double is his fault.

        • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Hughes definitely deserves some blame, but the inning should already have been over, and the double was a ground ball that wasn’t hit all that hard

    • Brian S.

It is Hughes fault that Granderson can’t catch a flyball, Jeter can’t field a routine ground ball, and Girardi had the third baseman in.

  • Mike N

    ouch

  • Hummingbird S.

one batter too late… horrible decisions by Girardi.

  • DERP

Where the hell was Nix playing. That ball was not hit hard at all.

    • Brian S.

I have no idea. He must be bizarro Jeter: terrible range to his right.

  • stuart a

offense and defense totally let down hughes big time…

the multiple gift runs. jeter error and the totally f-ed up mcdonald joke play….

    • Pat D

Sounds like Hughes has thrown way too many hittable pitches, too.

  • Greg

Not upset at all. They already met my quota.

    • Chris

Coming from you, this has to be the most ironic comment ever.

      • Greg

I’m not going to let you guys get me agitated about my personal confidence.

        • Chris

          OK

        • Pat D

I’m not trying to agitate you about your confidence, I just find your premise regarding this game to be wrong.

          • Greg

Of course I want the Yankees to win. But if they lose this game, its of no consequence.

They already did what I wanted them to do. Even when I wanted them to win 4 this week, I thought 2 against the Rays and 2 in Fenway

    • Pasta Stumbling Sojo (formerly StanfordBen)

I thought you said 4 wins. Not that that made any sense to begin with.

      • Pasta Stumbling Sojo (formerly StanfordBen)

On the other hand, if this is what it takes for you to understand that losing one game isn’t that big of a deal and doesn’t mean that much, so be it.

      • Greg

Even when I wanted 4, I thought the best outcome would be 2 against the Rays and 2 in Fenway. The Sox sweep to the A’s changed that quota

  • Will The Thrill

Of course the Yankees are losing a FOX game.

  • Ethan

seriously? giving up a based clearing double to an AAA guy. C’mon hughes!

  • Chris

I love it when we get beat by AAAA scrubs.

  • CCs Hammy

Hughes sucks. The 0-2 fastball to Gomez was unforgivable. Bury a curveball and get the second out. Just pathetic.

    • Brian S.

That was a mistake. But man the defense could have turned five outs between the Granderson drop, the Jeter error, and the Nix not being able to get to a ball down the line.

    • Bunt Gardner

      I’m sure you’re an expert.

  • Ricky

this Ciriaco guy is a pain in the ass

  • Widget

Thanks for nothing Hughes and thanks for nothing offense. This is a terribly frustrating game.

  • rconn23

Hughes got what he deserved tonight. Too many fat pitches to scrub players.

  • stuart a

btw this ballpark is a joke… punto hitting doubles off the wall in left.

a 330 foot fly ball to left center is a double….

yep Hughes sh-t the bed by making Jeter make an error on a routine out and mcdonald being a total fuc-en moron on his f up……

  • DERP

Underrated aspect of that play was Andruw. Took a terrible route to the ball and then didn’t pick it up cleanly.

  • Mattchu12

Blaming Hughes here is totally batshit crazy. Have you seen the defense today?

    • Kev

Offense falling asleep didn’t help either

      • Mattchu12

        Game is far from over.

        • Kev

No doubt…but to this point just a lot of shit breaking the wrong way – defensive issues, fading offense, tight strike zone, etc. Hopefully there’s a few more runs left in the tank in these final 3 innings.

    • Brian S.

Agreed. Unfortunately it looks like we let them off the hook.

    • CCs Hammy

Yeah OK. The 0-2 Fastball to Gomez was everyone else’s fault. And this #77 that he can’t seem to pitch too. He’s a AAA guy all the way.

      • Mattchu12

There’s nothing wrong with an 0-2 fastball, especially when Hughes has a great fastball. And the three run double is totally on playing Nix in when he made that exact same play like a champ a few innings earlier playing a normal depth.

        • Kramerica Industries

That’s because of who was at the plate.

No problem playing corners in for a speedy runner. The fact that a weak-ass dribbler was hit in just the right spot is not Nix’s fault, or Girardi’s fault.

          • Mattchu12

Let me clarify, I don’t have a problem with Nix playing in there, but that was just the ball being in the right spot at the right time.

It wasn’t on Hughes, Nix, or Girardi. Just a good hit.

            • Kramerica Industries

              Pretty much, yeah.

Glad we’re all clear about that.

    • Hummingbird S.

Yeah, I saw some bad plays, but also saw Cano turn a DP on a rocket, Jones make a diving catch in the OF and some other plays on rockets Hughes gave up.

Yes we can blame him, he was AWFUL tonight/

      • Mattchu12

        Not even close to awful.

      • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

        he wasn’t awful at all
        he was meh
He pitched well enough to win, if they made routine plays

  • Dewayne is Wise

Logan in as girardi raises the white flag.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

      WTF are you talking about?

    • christopher

Would you raise the white flag down by 2 in Fenway park?

  • Dan in Atlanta

Please trade Hughes. After next year he goes FA, and there is no way the Yankees are paying him. Hell the may pass on a 5/6 million plus tag for next year.

  • Nathan

This one is not on Hughes. He didn’t pitch terrible but he wasn’t the problem: it was the defense. It betrayed him.

And other than the first inning, the offense has done nothing.

  • Mike N

Love how the usual suspects arrive here as soon as Red Socks take the lead.

  • JohnnyC

Great idea to pick up McDonald. Useful guy.

  • Nathan

And there is someone in the stands that has a serious hard-on for Nick Punto. Sounds like he wants to marry him every time he comes up to bat.

  • Will The Thrill

Wow. I can’t wait until next year when Hughes is replaced by Pineda in the rotation. At least Pineda who is also a two pitch pitcher can actually dominate.

  • Paul VuvuZuvella

This will rip their hearts out when Yanks come back on their shitpen.

  • Widget

Logan really needs this all star break.

  • DERP

I’d rather mix and match then watch Logan face a righty.

  • Mr. Pink

Nick Punto getting the Miguel Cabrera treatment.

  • Mike N

The Red Socks really only have one leftie in their pen??

  • Cy Pettitte

    walking Punto is unforgivable.

  • Arya

I like how Hughes was victimized by 2 errors and the home plate ump and people are ready to write him off. He did throw some bad pitches to the last two hitters. Perhaps he should have been lifted sooner.

    • bobtaco

      +?

    • Paul VuvuZuvella

Write him off? Filthy hook and really good FB all night. Pretty good command too. Plenty to continue to build on. Can’t wait to see his next start!

  • Brian S.

    Walking Punto lol

  • pat

Honestly, how many hard hit balls did Hughes give up? Two maybe? I’m open to being corrected, but I just don’t remember many.

    • eephus_pitch

He gave up 10 hits in 5 1/3. Two errors didn’t help, but that’s not getting it done.

    • Tom

There was a sharp Ortiz single to right, a reasonably hit double to the wall for Ortiz and the hard hit single between SS and 3rd by Mauro (that to me was the killer as it was on an 0-2 fastball)

That and the smash to Cano that he turned the DP on is about all I can remember.

bunt single, 2 bloop hits (Ciriaco and AGon), a routine flyball/310ft double (AGon), and the Ciriaco groundball double wasn’t exactly crushed either.

      • eephus_pitch

Bitching about wall-ball doubles is the kind of thing Jake Peavy does. Hughes has to make some adjustments, stop throwing fat pitches on 0-2 counts.
Our guys are just as capable of banging the ball off that wall, and they’re not doing it.

  • christopher

Will somebody please embarrass me with $15 million?

    • Mr. Pink

At that pay I’d sign up to be embarrassed.

    • Chris

      Are you left-handed

  • Hummingbird S.

Boone Logan, definately not a relief ace

    • Brian S.

He must be tired or some shit. He has sucked lately.

      • JohnnyC

He’s on pace to appear in like 85 games. He’s gassed. But Joe feels he has no alternative. Joe Torre syndrome. Watch out.

        • Brian S.

So we need a LOOGY at the trade deadline?

  • DERP

Everyone in our pen walks a lot of batters. Except Wade who is going to AAA after the game.

  • pat

Ortiz just bailed him out there.

    • pat

Well not on the last pitch.

  • Brian S.

Unfortunately Lester has been really good lately.

  • DERP

    Logan is useless.

    • christopher

Oh yeah, that was really useless.

  • Chris

I ask again: has Ortiz made an out yet this series?

    • Tom

      One. (in the first game)

      • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

        the 2 today don’t count?

  • Bwahahahaha

    GET FRICKEN ROBERTSON IN THERE

  • jA

Salty will hit a grammy. Calling it

    • christopher

      Good jinx.

    • DERP

Andruw is sick of this shit.

    • Tom

      The guy sings too?

      A regular Renaissance man.

  • Nathan

    Ortiz is a prima dona.

  • Mr. Pink

I love how the FOX booth constantly ignores the fact that the Red Sox are 9.5 games back. They are going about this game as if the Yankees and Red Sox are neck in neck in the standings.

    • Nathan

At least Pedroia isn’t in there right now. The commentators talk about him with such reverence you think that he personally pulled them from a flaming car while driving a truck of milk to an orphanage.

  • christopher

    Nice pitch, loogy.

  • Cy Pettitte

this broadcast is ridiculous. Pedro Ciriaco: American Hero.

    • JobaWockeeZ

When a minor league free agent does all that shit in one MLB game eh deserves it. Because it should never happen.

    • Nathan

      Why why why?

  • DM

Bad defense — but 10 hits in 5.1 isn’t good pitching. And you need to pick up your fielders in big spots.

  • Dan in Atlanta

So you take off the 2 runs, Phil gives up 3 in 5.1 and can’t be efficient. Do not want and will not pay. Softer than Charmin, young Kenny Rogers can go away.

Great effort from the team this first half, but there is no way Hughes touches the ball outside of a blowout in the postseason (CC, Pettite, Kuroda, Nova). If you can get something, do it. If not, opition his ass.

    • Brian S.

He gave up a soft ground ball down the left field line. I like soft ground balls.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Take away the errors, and he probably gives up none in the fifth and none in the sixth, and is still in the game having only given up 1 run in 6 innings with plenty left to continue into the seventh.

    • pat

Except if you take away the errors and turn them into outs he saves about 20 pitches.

    • Pat D

He and Nova have been about the same this year. Hughes has just given up more home runs. Nova has a higher H/9 and BB/9 and a lower K/9.

      So…there’s not much difference there.

      • Pat D

Oh, and option his ass for what? More Adam Warren?

      • Tom

        GB’s vs flyballs…..

Hughes gets ~33% GB’s, Nova 48%… that makes a big difference.

        • Dan in Atlanta

You all are right, a guy with 100 or so starts and a 4.50 ERA in them is the greatest thing ever.

He blows. He is Jeff Weaver Jr. Soft and already decreasing in terms of velocity.

          Bye-bye.

  • eephus_pitch

Salty’s just glad all these strikeouts came against white pitchers. If it had been against Latin players, he’d have to kill himself.

  • Cy Pettitte

Andruw is so hot right now. my god.

  • pat

    Fuck your shit Felix.

  • Paul VuvuZuvella

    Jones!

  • Kramerica Industries

    Lift-off, Andruw.

Lets get some more this inning.

  • christopher

    Andruw 1998 Jones.

  • bobtaco

If Cody Ross’ HR was titanic, what the hell was that?

    • christopher

      Apparently, that was Sports Authority.

  • Nathan

Can we declare July 7th as Andruw Jones day?

  • JobaWockeeZ

Andruw makes up for one run that shouldn’t have scored.

  • Chris

    1-run game bitches

  • Get Phelps Up

    Crushed.

  • wow

    boom

  • Paul VuvuZuvella

Have a banana Andruw, you earned it.

    • Brian S.

      Racist!

      • Paul VuvuZuvella

Relax, dude was eating a banana in the dugout after trotting the bases.

  • DERP

I bet Andruw is a gentle lover as well.

  • Tom Q

It’s almost as if the Yankees don’t think the game’s over yet.

  • Mr. Pink

Yay! Boston bullpen. Music to my ears.

    • Brian S.

They have been good this year against the non-Yankees.

  • Brian S.

I think we can scratch off a run or two against Boston’s pen.

    • bobtaco

What ever else happens this game, Tampa has already lost…

      • Brian S.

        I don’t care about Tampa. It’s Boston I don’t like.

  • Chris

4 runs in 6.1 innings isn’t “very, very good” McCarver, you geriatric fuck.

    • Pat D

In fairness, all he really did was give up the two home runs.

      • Chris

        Mistakes are mistakes.

        • Pat D

True, but it’s not like he was terrible, either.

    • JobaWockeeZ

See if people are going to say a billion excuses about errors then Felix gave up only one run. You can make excuses about everyone but they’re all annoying none the less.

      • JobaWockeeZ

        Or two runs, same thing.

      • Chris

Neither pitcher could pick up their defenders after their mistakes. Even if they had, we’d still be losing this game by 1 run.

    • eephus_pitch

I guess he’s using the “other than when he gave up runs he was totally dominant” theory.
Selective logic, to be sure, but I see people in this thread trying to defend Hughes’ performance using the same tactic.

  • pat

Not gonna lie, I’m a sucker for dumb commercials and Cal Ripken catching every foul ball at a game amuses me.

  • pat

    Mas Padilla, por favor.

  • Mr. Pink

    Don’t get picked off Russ.

  • Pat D

Greg, going back to some of your comments where you said the Sox getting swept in Oakland changed your outlook for this week.

You do remember that the fucking Orioles are in second place, right? And that through 2 games they’ve been the anti-Yankees and haven’t lost in fucking Anaheim, right?

That’s why these games aren’t giveaways, no matter what position the Rays and Sox are in.

    • Greg

I was told on here not to pay attention to the Orioles. Heard that they were no threat at all.

      • Pat D

Not by me. Considering that even with their negative run differential they haven’t completely folded yet, they’re just annoying the hell out of me.

    • Kramerica Industries

Like I said above, though it may be lost by now:

Boston is tied for the 9th best record in the AL. 4th in the East. Why should we base everything around them, right now?

      • Greg

Because they are the Red Sox.

        • Kramerica Industries

          That’s insane.

The 2012 Red Sox need to earn the right to have that kind of fear attached to them. A team that’s .500 and 9.5 games behind and three spots behind hasn’t earned that.

Not to mention that they have a friggen mash unit out there right now.

          • Greg

It might be insane but its true, whether you like it or not.

            • Kramerica Industries

The bigger the cushion between the two, the better.

But there are many teams right now that are closer to the Yankees in the division standings or AL standings.

Don’t be a drone. You’re better than this.

              • Greg

I was told on here to ignore the Orioles, they are not threat

          • Brian S.

They have the second best run differential in the division. Once Ellsbury, Crawford, Bailey, Pedroia are back they might be legit. We need them to lose as often as possible right now.

            • Greg

Crawford had a setback today, so he’s not coming back for awhile.

    • Paul VuvuZuvella

      +1

    • Brian S.

I don’t only need the Yankees to win. I need Boston to miss the playoffs again.

  • pat

A Chavy bomb would be a welcome surprise.

    • pat

      Or just watch strike three.

  • Mr. Pink

Doubront has been the only Red Sox pitcher capable of keeping us in line. Weird.

  • eephus_pitch

    What the fuck, Jeter?

  • christopher

Well, nice idea, didn’t work out.

  • Kramerica Industries

    WTF Jeter?

Fucking two outs. What the hell was that?

  • Chris

    Nice try, Jeter.

  • Brian S.

Jeter is dumb. And we still owe him 17 million next season.

  • pat

Lol did Albers just call Jeter a “fucking pussy”?

    • TomH

If he did, why are you so thick as to be “LOL”?

  • oldmanalex

    Need Help:

got two questions for you at RAB

    1) Reggies comments on AROD, out of line or not? and was it ACTUALLY taken out of context ( I think Reggie meant exactly what he said)?

    2) is AROD on the bench, available to hit?

sorry for being so AROD- centric

    • TomH

Of course they were “out of line.” He works for / with the Yankees. If he’s going to say that sort of thing about one of their key players during the middle of a season, he ought first to sever his ties to the team.

It was a reminder of just what a jerk Reggie was as a 20 something. He’s one of those people, perhaps, who never gets out of his twenties.

      • oldmanalex

yea I agree with your logic. I just hate the fact that Reggie defends himself by saying “it was out of context.” I don’t think you say those things to the media without thinking it through. I liked the way AROD handled it, but rodriguez did admit it changes their relationship, which kind of sux.

  • Will The Thrill

Albers pumped up after Jeter get himself out. Ha.

  • Hall and Nokes

LOL Gamecast thinks Jeter bunted at a pitch six inches inside with two outs. Uh, he didn’t, right?

    • Brian S.

      Yes. He did.

    • pat

Maybe not 6 inches, but it looked off the plate. Caught him by surprise for sure.

  • Karl Krawfid

Yankees are gonna win this game and it’s gonna feel so damn good.

  • Cy Pettitte

    no boone

  • bobtaco

    Boone needs a long rest.

  • Kramerica Industries

Gonzalez chose a good night to look like AGon again, eh?

  • Hummingbird S.

boone logan, heckuva job sir.. at least you kept him in the park

  • DERP
  • Brian S.

    Oh God Cory Wade.

  • Chris

Thank god he hit that into the triangle. Nice to see Logan has gone back into being a LNOGY.

  • bobtaco

Anyone have any faith in Wade in this spot?

    • Cy Pettitte

if there’s one way to motivate a guy it’s to send him to AAA SWB with no home stadium so I have hope.

  • Will The Thrill

Where the hell is Rapada? We do have a second lefty don’t we?

  • DERP

    Call up Juan Cedeno

  • eephus_pitch

    Cory Wade = white flag

    • whozat

Who’s Cory Wade? The TV told me this was Cody Wade, and Fox wouldn’t be so pathetic as to be unable to get the name of a player who’s been on the Yankees for over a year right, would they?

  • Greg

Win tomorrow, you can still have your 3 of 4. If I’m not getting upset about it, and you know how I am, why are you guys upset?

    • Brian S.

Because tomorrow is Nova vs. Lester. Lester has been really good lately.

      • Greg

Not really. ERA of 4.01 in June

    • Kramerica Industries

Because you keep on posting the same thing over and over again.

You tell us that we can’t change your expectations. Conversely, you can’t change any of how we feel about this game or tomorrow’s.

And, I mean, when the hell did a game against Jon Lester become one we think that way about?

  • Hummingbird S.

batting practice pitcher coming up, Red Sox triple-A lineup can’t wait to hit..

  • Paul VuvuZuvella

No matter how this game winds up, Nova will get The W tomorrow.

  • DERP

    jesus christ

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Whit Flag Wade in a one run game? Really?

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

      White*

      • eephus_pitch

        With predictable results.

    • eephus_pitch

Because supposedly “one game doesn’t matter.”

It will if they miss the playoffs by one game. I don’t think you should ever give one away so readily, and that’s what Cory Wade does for you.

  • pat

    Nixy!!

  • eephus_pitch

    “He does everything well”

Suzyn Waldman’s assessment of Nix catching the ball but then dropping it. You can’t make this stuff up.

    • whozat

Yeah, guys who “do everything well” have to settle for minor league deals late in the offseason, right?

  • pat

Hamilton has 27 HR before the ASB? Insane.

    • Brian S.

Most of those were in May.

    • Chris

Let’s not forget that Joey Bats does as well. The difference is that that’s what’s expected from him.

  • Cy Pettitte

    Cory Wade: not fixed.

  • Greg

    Oh well

  • DERP

Wade is awful. Come back soon Joba.

  • Kramerica Industries

    Sucks to suck, Cory Wade.

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

    So Corey Wade still sucks…

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Raise your hand if you DIDN’T see that coming. *Girardi’s lone hand in air.*

  • Nathan

    Wade DFA’d please. Thanks.

  • Hummingbird S.

great idea on that pitch! why not throw a 0-2 fastball right down the middle.. even worse, and 88mph (if that) fastball. What a fucking dumbass

    • pat

Yes, he clearly meant to throw it down the middle.

  • Brian S.

    CHASE WHITLEY

  • pat

WHERE THE HECK WAS THE 1-0 PITCH?

  • Karl Krawfid

    0-2 fastball folks.

Like clockwork for the Yankees with Ass Martin behind the plate.

  • DERP

I don’t want to see Wade before September 1.

  • Ron

Enough already. How many runs will this trash give up before joe stops giving chances. Semd him on a one way trip to Scranton and forget he exists.

  • Will The Thrill

I’m starting to think that last year was a fluke and that Cory Wade was no good to begin with.

    • JohnnyC

      You think?

  • DERP

Fuck Wade. I hope he blows out his arm and retires.

    • pat

      And you’re an asshole.

  • The Scheister of Doom

Wade and Logan have been garbage as of late, is it sad when I prefer Eppley and Rapada? I now understand the tag, Death by Bullpen.

  • Brian S.

LOL WADE. Thanks for everything but you are done.

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Maybe try a reliever who can get outs, Joe?

  • Kev

Such is the nature of middle relievers. We should be thankful we got as much out of him as we have.

  • Nathan

Getting beaten not only by themselves but a bunch of no-names? Embarrassing.

  • DERP

Just bean this guy in the head. He can’t hurt us that way.

  • Hummingbird S.

Triple-A players beating triple-A pitchers… in the majors.

  • Widget

we all knew some scrub was going to kill the yankees this weekend. I’d say Gomez is pretty damn scrubby.

I bet Padilla comes in and hits Tex tonight.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

“Wadey just didn’t have it tonight. We’re going to work on some stuff with him and hope to get better results next time.”

    • Mike N

      hahahaha You nailed it.

  • stuart a

wade is a scared joke. He is done.

Logan has been bad for 2 weeks. Girardi thinks logan is the logan blip of weeks ago, he is not…

again bad loss, could have buried these losers…..

    • Pat D

      Still can tomorrow.

    • Paul VuvuZuvella

Logan has been very good for 12 months.

  • Ricky

    mauro gomez lol…

  • Karl Krawfid

Boone Logan is headed the way of Wade and Joe G is running his ass into the ground.

  • Will The Thrill

How many balls will get hit past 3rd? Jeez. I don’t know if they’re tired or what. The defense has been little league-esque.

  • Tom

Is Corey Wade in this game had the Yankees lost game 1? I really dislike how Girardi seems to get in the give up mode sometimes.

If he’s down more than 2 or up more than 2 he often won’t nothe to use a Ph on the bench. And in a game down by 1 run, you don’t use the 26th man on your roster.

Even now… down 3 in Fenway with 2 ABs? Why is Wade still in there.

    • Tom

*won’t use a PH* (not sure what the hell I was typing there)

  • Cy Pettitte

this game is a joke now. this is just a pathetic.

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

    clusterfuck

  • The Scheister of Doom

Wave the white flag, put Wise is and call it a game. He relieved Wade in the last game I watched Wade pitch with better results. Hold it here and keep it a game!

  • Mike N

    Why fucking Wade?

  • Hummingbird S.

what a joke.. time to watch the UFC

  • bobtaco

    DJ MItchell, come on down…

  • eephus_pitch

    “Jayson Nix does EVERYTHING right”

  • stuart a

newsflkash nix cannot play 3rd but we have to rest the old man slap hitting afraud.

arod after all is up to 36 rbi’s so throw him a parade…

get rid of Wade enough. this guy is gas on any fire…..

    • Mike Stanley

      Go chug gasoline.

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

      LOL

    • The Scheister of Doom

Do you actually like the Yankees?

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

      Beatrice?

    • eephus_pitch

No one’s throwing him a parade.
Sheesh, you really sound like a Red Sox fan. Is that your secret?

  • bobtaco

and by the way, why didn’t Chavez come in to play third?

    • pat

Because Nix is better than McDonald.

  • christopher

Okay, so this is not going as planned. Still, we can win this game.

    • christopher

Although it is getting a little deep..

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

next inning, or Nix’s next AB I guarantee that Ma and Pa are talking about how Nix just does everything well, and how he’s a solid player while completely disregarding that play.

    • eephus_pitch

You must not have been listening. Right after he made a huge error they launched into “you never expect this from Jayson Nix because he’s been so AMAZING for the Yankees this season.”
They actually used the word “amazing.”

  • Brian S.

Put someone else in. Just to stop them from scoring.

  • Anthony

What is going on down the 3rd base line tonight??? God this seventh inning…

  • Will The Thrill

Hey Boston you’re 9.5 games back. You do remember don’t you?

  • The Scheister of Doom

Fuck it, lets just leave Wade in for the rest of the game, as punishment.

  • Get Phelps Up

I’d rather just watch Ortiz hit 8 solo homers than this shit.

  • DERP

I would rather have called up Betances than Wade. At least Betances could start headhunting if things got out of hand.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Another error.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

…at least he has the bases empty now.

  • stuart a

Wades ERA over 6 now.. WOw has he totally fallen apart. he is scared to throw a strike…

this game is a total joke now.

    defense is offensive….

  • wow

i see the Cory “the white flag” Wade is still not letting us down.

  • Mike N

    AUGH!!

  • DERP

If Gomez or that other AAA guy get up, please throw at them and injure them.

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

    un-fucking-real

Russ keeping up the great D

  • Get Phelps Up

Even with Pedroia gone Fox still manages to slob all over a Red Sock.

  • Cy Pettitte

ok I’ve had enough Wade for a life time. Joba come back soon.

    • Chris

God do I miss Joba Chamberlain.

  • Ricky

yup… Gomez, Ciriaco and errors will most likely be their downfall for this game

  • Giraffe

Ciriaco reminds me of Merton Hanks.

    • Paul VuvuZuvella

Funny, this came from you, because frankly, his nickname should be giraffe. Guy is a vampire’s dream.

  • Nathan

F this game…d!ck slapped by a bunch of hacks.

  • Tom

So why again was Wade even in this game?

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

cause he’s a savvy, gritty guy. he knows how to change pitches, and get guys to hit screaming line drives, everywhere.

    • Paul VuvuZuvella

Just Joe confirming he is completely done.

  • Will The Thrill

I think I might vomit at the amount of dicksucking of Ciriaco and Gomez going on in the FOX booth.

    • Widget

Par for the course with Fox. They never hide their hate for the Yankees.

  • Mike Stanley

The Ciraco guy has one good hit all night. One. The double. Rest was crap. Whatever.

  • stuart a

nix is doing everything right to about a 240 BA with a OBP of maybe 300…

    he is a career AAAA…

he has been a butcher at 3b tonight.

corey wade is walking nick friggin 180 pun to…….

  • The Scheister of Doom

    I hate this new 26th man rule, I blame Bud Sel…err A–Rod.

  • christopher

You know, four errors is kind of uncool.

  • Knoxvillain

If Russell Martin doesn’t wake up tomorrow morning, I’m throwing a party. Same goes for Wade and Girardi.

  • Athenian

I am guessing that the Yankees won’t be putting on defensive clinics in the near future. Common occurrence since the three error Mets game.

  • Cy Pettitte

    every.single.ball. getting crushed.

  • DERP

Punto came so close to hitting Wade. Just missed

  • Cy Pettitte

If Joe Buck says “the Red Sox, in a game they needed….” one more time….

    • Pat D

What else is he supposed to say? He has to make every game seem bigger than it is. His job is hype, not calling the game.

      • Cy Pettitte

it’s a game between a last place and a 1st place team 1 game before the all star break. if I didn’t know better I’d think the Yankees and Sox we’re playing game 163 right now.

        • Pat D

The Sox aren’t quite in last place.

Also, I’m not able to actually watch this game, so I’ll take your word for it on how ridiculous Buck is acting.

  • Punisher3000

Please hit Ortiz in the noggin.

  • flamingo

    Yeah, time to pull Wade.

    • Tom

It’s just a 5 run deficit… you don’t want to let this game get away.

This is still winnabl, which of course is why Wade was pitching in a 1 run game.

  • M&M Boys

Why was that worthless piece of shit Wade allowed to pitch in a game that was still close? Girardi just gave this one away.

    • Greg

      You sir are an idiot

      • Knoxvillain

No, he’s right in every single way. You’re the idiot.

        • Greg

          No YOU”RE THE IDIOT.

You act like Girardi is Grady Little. Show some respect

  • christopher

Oh, now Verlander is in the game????!!!!!! Oh, a commercial, sorry.

  • Get Phelps Up

Just leave Wade in to throw at Ortiz.

    • DERP

Ortiz would catch it before it hit him.

  • DERP

I’m fine with Wade pitching. Now we know for sure that he won’t pitch in a meaningful game for a long time.

    • The Scheister of Doom

      I hope thats true.

  • BINNER

    That’s what I’ve been screaming…!

  • The Scheister of Doom

Its just one game, go figure the one I attempt to watch in its entirity. Oh well, anything can happen in this rat infested hell hole known as Fenway. Teix must aim the ball back at Padillia if he has the pleasure of facing him IF the top of the 8th ever acutally happens.

  • Adam

Hey, did everyone know that the Red Sox are playing players with high numbers tonight? Had no idea…

    • Cy Pettitte

breaking news: injury prone Sox players get injured.

  • Mike Stanley

Bad loss for the Cubs today in a game they HAD TO WIN.

You know, because they’re also in last place.

    • Tom

      I laughed.

  • Will The Thrill

Would’ve been nice to have this game. Now the Sawx have confidence going into tomorrow with Lester on the mound.

    • Get Phelps Up

Except Lester hasn’t been so good this year.

      • Mike Stanley

If the Red Sox win 23-0 tomorrow, they will be 8 games out of first place.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Things the Yankees need to address:
    Catching
    Bench
Making sure Wade is never allowed near the mound in a game ever again.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

      Bench?

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

The bench, like having NOT Nix/Nunez playing back up infielder.

        • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Nix won’t play much once Gardner gets back, only occasionally to give Jeter rest. Not really a big deal.

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I’m not so sure Gardner’s going to be back anytime soon. Elbows are tricky fuckers.

          • Paul VuvuZuvella

            Nix is fine.

            • eephus_pitch

His defense is shaky and he can’t hit. He’s struck out 3x more than he’s walked in his career.
              Not fine.

    • Pat D

What would you like them to do with the bench? Replace Nix?

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Yeah, I’m far to tired/lazy to look it up…but I’m sure there has to be some infielders available at a cheap price.

    • Widget

      Especially catcher.

  • Mike N

I am very much not one to second guess the manager, but I am having trouble understanding why you would ever put in the demonstrably worst pitcher in the bullpen in a close game.

    • The Scheister of Doom

      But Da Binderr !!11!

    • Mike Stanley

Already losing, lot of games in a short timespan…would rather see him used with them losing than with them having the lead.

      • Adam

And to be honest, given how effective Wade was last year and for half of this year, is worth the chance at seeing if he can get back on track. Seriously, is one game.

      • Mike N

Wade was the extra roster spot for the doubleheader. I cannot comprehend how he was pitching in anything other than garbage time.

  • The Scheister of Doom

Buck gets all orgaismic when the Sox do anything of remote value meanwhile he sounds like Ben Stein when the Yanks score. He is a douchebag.

    • Will The Thrill

Argh. It makes me want to stab a baby. “Ciriaco with the game of his life!” “The Red Sox slapping around the Yankees” ” Red Sox showing off their minor league depth”. Just a couple of the worst lines.

  • Will The Thrill

David Ortiz has to be on some kind of PEDs.

    • The Scheister of Doom

If slimfast is a PED fore-shore!

    • Pat D

      HGH and Dunkin’ Donuts.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

John Lackey trying to steal that curtain call from Ciriaco.

    • The Scheister of Doom

Maybe they’ll trade Pedoria now that next best thing, Ciraco has joined the show!

      • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

        Trade him to Houston.

  • Tom

I just don’t get the Girardi logic here….

If Wade is brought in during a 1 run game because you don’t want to burn a good reliever – why bother bringing Rapada in with a 5 run deficit. Just put Mitchell in and be done with the game (which is essentially what he did when he brought Wade in).

    • Kev

      Totally agree

    • DERP

      1) Rapada isn’t that good
      2) Probably wanted Rapada to get some work in before the break (might not be needed tomorrow)
      3) Probably wanted Mitchell to have a clean slate

    • JohnnyC

Girardi thought Wade would pitch well. That’s the sad truth.

      • Get Phelps Up

“I had confidence in Wadey. It just didn’t work out. What can you do?”

      • Mike N

If he thought that, then why was Wade sent down in the first place? They had already apparently made the determination that Wade was worse than anyone else on the roster, and the only reason he was here was the double-header roster expansion.

  • pat

So Hard Knocks but with a MLB team?

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Last year it was the Giants, this year it’s the Fish.

      • pat

Really? I somehow missed that whole thing last year.

        • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

I enjoyed watching it. It’s pretty well done, and considering that Brian Wilson is the only interesting character on that team, I can only imagine how this year’s series will be with Ozzie, Stanton, Heath Bell, Lomo, etc.

    • Adam

Yes, but also follows the team into the regular season.

  • Captain Gift Basket

6 hits, 3 for XBH by the bottom 2 hitters from nowhere – another fine job by the Yanks scouting dept. I hope when they slash payroll that they actually hire some scouts with the savings.

    • pat

      Lol.

    • JohnnyC

Actually the quality of their advance scouting has been sub-par for years now, ever since Gene Michael was replaced by Billy Eppler and turned over the entire scouting staff.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Yankees will win this game.

    • bobtaco

I’d be happy if the Yankees just score a few more runs on this bullpen to make it respectable.

      But I like your optimism.

    • The Scheister of Doom

I miss Hawk. Die Buck Die! Okay, goodnight RAB!

    • Brian S.

      lol

  • Get Phelps Up

Congratulations to Boston Red Sox infielder Pedro Ciriaco who has been elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

  • pat

Love how the ump has stretched the zone as the game goes on. Players really love that.

  • Cuso

What the hell? Before they blacked us out and sent us to Braves/Phillies we were up 3-0.

    Why aren’t we scoring?

    • Will The Thrill

Because Doubront somehow finds a way to keep the Yankees in line.

    • Kramerica Industries

      Where do you live, Cuso?

In Tampa Bay, they’re showing Yankees/Red Sox. Since you’re in the Rays market as well, I would think you would also get this game.

  • Greg

All of you disrespect Girardi. My goodness. Why does he have the job and you dont? Maybe because he knows more than you do. Show him some respect.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Greg, you know I’m normally on board with his decisions. Rationalize bringing in Cory Wade in a 1 run game, knowing he’s been horrid for over a month.

      • Greg

Because he didn’t want to use relievers that he used in the first game in a game that he knows is not really important.

        • Get Phelps Up

That doesn’t mean to use a trash reliever in a 1 run game.

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

          So then
          Logan
          Qualls
          Mitchell
all available. all more likely to succeed.

          • Greg

Qualls pitched in the first game

      • Adam

Serious question, outside of Rapada, who else was available in that situation?

While bringing Wade in there is obviously not optimal I do think that taking the chance to see if Wade can straighten things up is worthwhile given just how good he was up until this recent stretch.

        • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Qualls and Mitchell were both available
I don’t really mind so much that they tried Wade, I don’t get why they left him in so long when he looked so awful.

    • DERP

I really like Girardi and think he does a nice job, but this argument is silly.

      • Greg

He gets so much flack around here despite the Yanks having the best record in baseball. Its ridiculous

        • Tom

Your need to defend him anytime someone has the nerve to question any of his decisions is equally ridiculous.

          • Greg

If there is absolutely no logical reason behind a decision by him, then I will criticize him.

            • Kramerica Industries

Is this to imply there was even a shred of logic behind bringing in Cory Wade?

I mean, have you watched him pitch since the Yankees were in Anaheim? It’s basically been batting practice.

              • Greg

I just stated the logic in my previous post.

              • Adam

Yes, the logic is trying to straighten out someone who has been one of their better relievers for a year and a half while also avoiding over using all of the bullpen for a game that is essentially meaningless.

                • Kramerica Industries

                  In a one run ballgame?

                  • Adam

If this wasn’t the second game of a double header it is a different story.

            • Tom

Why did he bring in Wade down 5?

              • Tom

Sorry, meant why did he bring in Rapada down 5? (when he let Wade face the lefty Sweeney earlier in the inning)

                • Greg

Because he hadn’t been used that day and he knows this game doesnt matter in the long run

                  • forensic

The manager who says every game matters and you want to win every game suddenly thinks this intradivision game doesn’t matter in the 7th inning? It mattered to him earlier in the inning and the inning before when he used Logan yet again. Guess he changed his mind in the span of one AB.

                    • Tom

Thank you for pointing out the ridiculously inconsistent logic.

This was either a give up game or not.
                      – he used (an overused) Logan when down; if he’s trying to save the pen Logan never enters the game
                      – used Wade to save (?) the bullpen in a game that got closer (only down 1)
                      – used Rapada while down 5 for two batters…. to save the bullpen?

            • forensic

Still waiting for that first time, huh?

    • forensic

This appeal to authority fallacy sponsored by your king of fallacies, Greg Girardi.

      • forensic

Still waiting for your defense of this Greg. Did you stop reading the Philosophy book after Fallacy of the Predetermined Outcome and think you figured it all out?

Or would it have been better if I just posted: FALLACY like you do?

  • Tom

    Padilla getting loose….

    … so you’re saying there’s a chance?

    • Pat D

What was all that one in a million talk?

  • christopher

    We can do this Yankees.

  • Paul VuvuZuvella

Come on Nick. A blast and Yanks bring tieing run to plate in this game.

  • Will The Thrill

Granderson playing against a tough lefty killed our offensive flow today. Anyone else agree? We should’ve loaded up on righties like we did in the first game.

    • Adam

And sit one of the team’s best hitters for both ends of the double header? Seriously?

  • Will The Thrill

OMG FOX! Please stop talking about Ciriaco and Gomez!

    • bobtaco

If Jones hits a grand slam here, I believe they will stop talking about them.

    • Cy Pettitte

they both went 3-4 in one game. SSS be damned, that’s all I need to see. Give these scouts a big bonus and induct these guys into the HOF.

  • christopher

    Nice!

  • Kramerica Industries

Ya know, if only for that gift-wrapped 9th run for the Red Sox…

  • TJ

Could Jones have a GS in him today also?

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

      Bases clearing bunt single ftw.

  • Karl Krawfid

PLease use Raul. He has good numbers against Padilla.

    • Widget

Depends on what the binder says.

  • Mike N

    BASES LOADED!!!!

  • pat

These scrubs have 1 good game each and Fox is talking about who should get credit for signing them like they’re some superstars.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

So…if Ibanez doesn’t pinch hit here you know that Joe is consciously trying to lose this game.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I understand Jones is hot as hell right now…but seriously This is why Ibanez is on the team. This situation. right here.

      • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Makes much more sense to use him for Nix.

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Not really…Ibanez for Jones, Arod for Nix.

          • Greg

Its still has some logic behind it, which it means it shouldn’t be criticized

            • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

There’s logic behind building and dropping an atomic bomb, just because there is logic in something doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be criticized.

              • Greg

Hey, it ended the war. And its use then means that it will probably never be used again.

                • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

You cannot be serious. Dropping that bomb was the single greatest crime against humanity that the United States has ever committed. It’s seriously not even close.

                  • Greg

No that would the Jersey Shore.

But seriously, they dropped pamphlets on the Japanese people saying they were going to drop the bomb. It wasn’t a surprise attack.

            • forensic

There are seven million stats in baseball. I can say there is logic behind any move. That doesn’t make it the highest percentage or best or right move.

There’s logic behind robbing a bank, should we all do that?

          • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

I’d much rather take a shot with Jones popping one over the Monster. PH for Nix and Martin.

    • pat

Right. Nevermind the fact that Jones has three HR today.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

        all against LHP.

  • DERP

    Where is Ibanez?

  • pat

Padilla shouldn’t throw Jones a single FB.

  • Cy Pettitte

how many times can you call Jayson Nix Lance Nix.

    • Mike N

      srsly

  • Mike N

    C’mon, Raul!!!!!!

  • Brian S.

Jones only hits solo home runs.

  • Karl Krawfid

What the hell is wrong with Joe G?

Wouldn’t you have Raul hit for Jones and A-Rod hit for Nix?

    • Greg

No because Jones has 3 home runs today.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

All against LHP. Jones mashes Lefties. He hits righties at next to replacement level production.

        • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

          Not even remotely true.
He’s hit righties better than Ibanez has this year.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

hell no. Jones having a great day. Fastball pitcher. Short fence in LF. Give Jones a shot. PH for Nix and Martin.

  • mike_h

apparently Lance Nix plays for the Yankees

  • Kramerica Industries

Why would Ibanez PH BEFORE ARod?

WTF Joe? That’s dumbassery at it’s best.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    wow. just fucking wow.

  • bobtaco

    Unfortunate

  • christopher

    Oof. Those pop ups hurt.

  • DERP

Can we blame Wade or Girardi for that?

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

    well that was anti-climactic

  • Karl Krawfid

    Game over. Shower time.

  • Widget

3 fucking pitches. terrible. Padilla is certified grade A dogshit.

  • Captain Gift Basket

So why not Ibañez then Arod?

    • Greg

Have you seen Andruw Jones today?

      Such simpletons

      • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Okay…you are not allowed to call other people simpletons.

  • Get Phelps Up

Girardi has not had his best game tonight, that’s for sure.

    • Get Phelps Up

Just to make it clear, I don’t mind sending Andruw up there, but Girardi has to make sure A-Rod gets a chance.

      • Greg

My guess is that ARod was going to pinch hit for Martin if he got up.

        • Get Phelps Up

Well yeah, because he was on deck when Ibanez was hitting for Nix.

You gotta make sure A-Rod gets a chance – use him for Nix and Ibanez for Martin.

          • Greg

If he were the ARod of 2005-2009 then I would agree. Now, eh….

  • DERP

If Jones didn’t hit those home runs, Ibanez would have hit for him.

  • pat

Ah shit, come on DJ. Just show me you’re not a pussy.

  • bobtaco

Now Chavez is at 3B… better late than never, Joe!

  • yankees7

why the hell didnt he pinch hit arod.

  • pat

Great now we get to hear how Aceves used to be a Yankee and how the Sox took a chance on him and he’s paid them off immensely. Then the commenter here call Cashman an idiot and everybody hates themselves at the end of the day.

  • christopher

It’s easy enough to be a virtual manger sitting on your couch, but in truth, Girardi played that right. The result just sucked.

    • Greg

      THANK YOU.

    • Adam

If this was a Saturday night game in Oakland I doubt that people care us much. For better or worse is a product of where many fans sit vis-a-vis the Sawks.

  • pat

I have a feeling Ross is going to be looking for the CB again.

    • pat

He was and he still missed it. Nice.

  • DERP

DJ Mitchell is our third best reliever.

  • Mike N

Again Buck with “the Red Socks *must* win this game”. As opposed to some other games that they didn’t need to win?

  • Will The Thrill

So I’m starting to see Chik-Fil-A advertisements and commercials everywhere but there are no Chik-Fil-A’s within 20 miles of where I live in NJ. What’s up with that?

  • Get Phelps Up

And the Red Sox have leaped 10 games in the standings and are now in first place!!

    • Will The Thrill

You would think that was the case by the way the FOX booth and Sawx fans are rejoicing.

      • Widget

Sportscenter will probably lead off with the excitement of MAURO GOMEZ!!!!!!!!!

        Lance Nix says hi.

        • Get Phelps Up

          So does Bronson Arroyo.

    as many errors as hits.

Mitchell is actually known to be a very good fielding pitcher. Makes that error pretty surprising.

  • bobtaco

I guess it doesn’t matter who is playing 3B tonight… they are all going to go through…

  • DERP

    Better rookie: Trout or Ciriaco

Close, but I have to give it so Ciriaco

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Real question: Ciriaco, great rookie or Greatest rookie?

    • Cy Pettitte

Ciriaco = second coming of Arod

  • Kramerica Industries

Red Sox fans sure are full of themselves over someone they’ll likely forget exists within a month.

  • JohnnyC

They’ll boo Ciriaco mercilessly in a couple of weeks. It’s the Fenway way.

  • DERP

I’m pretty sure that the fans think Ciriaco is similar to Manny Machado as a prospect.

  • Kev

    Why change the pattern now?

This is the third straight season in which the Yankees will play at least one doubleheader against the Red Sox. The teams have split each of the last three doubleheaders against one another with the Yankees winning the first game and losing the second game each time (9/28/08 and 10/2/10 at Fenway, and 9/25/11 at Yankee Stadium). The Yankees?last swept the Red Sox in a doubleheader on August 18, 2006 at Fenway Park.”

    http://yankees.lhblogs.com/201.....t-red-sox/

    • Greg

See what I mean? It’s hard to sweep double headers

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

yes it is, but seriously Girardi managed himself out of the possibility of doing so. I understand hindsight is 20/20, but anybody who thinks bringing Wade in was a good call is either a Girardi homer or plain silly.

        • Greg

Look at Adam’s posts. He will explain

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

you could’ve just linked it, but i did go back up and read it my response is simple. there is a time and a place for that. The real place is in AAA, but if you insist on doing it in the majors the time is in a lower leverage situation, not a one-run ball game with the tying run on second.

        • Mike N

I almost never second-guess manager decisions, but I can’t comprehend why Wade came in there.

    • bobtaco

Especially when you give away multiple 4 out innings.

  • pat

The Red Sox are just such loyal and knowledgeable fans. Especially the ones yelling racial slurs at Carl Crawford while he’s rehabbing.

    • Mike N

      What are they yelling?

      • pat

Someone was yelling at Crawford calling him a “Monday” during a game in Portland the other day.

        • pat

I’ve actually heard that before so I knew it was a slur, but for the uninitiated the “logic” is that “Everyone hates Mondays”.

  • Kramerica Industries

Seriously. Now ARod is pinch hitting, when he could’ve PH in the 8th with the bases loaded?

WTF kind of logic is that?

    • pat

      For whom? Jones or Ibanez?

      • Kramerica Industries

I would say Ibanez, because he actually did PH, but I suppose it could work in either case.

He’s the best bat on the bench. To use a lesser bat, “saving” ARod for a situation that likely wouldn’t come to pass (and, lo and behold, it did not) is moronic.

        • pat

He wasn’t “saving” Arod. He went with the guy with 3 HR on the day and the guy with good numbers vs Silva in a not so small sample size.

          • pat

And Arod was on deck when Ibanez popped out.

  • Cy Pettitte

I wish Martin hit as well as he tore up towels

  • yankees7

why arod now. god he confuses me sometimes

  • Mike Stanley

I totally can’t wait for stuart a to blame Alex for not hitting a five-run home run.

  • Will The Thrill

ESPN and FOX can go fuck themselves. Also I’m loving the tough schedule the Red Sox have after the ASG. Rays, White Sox, Blue Jays, Rangers, Yankees, Tigers and Rangers again (after Twins). Let’s see how many games they drop in that stretch.

  • Get Phelps Up

Fox executives are reportedly petitioning Ron Washington for Pedro Ciriaco to replace Jeter as the All Star Game starter.

    • Will The Thrill

      I LOL’d.

  • DERP

Ciriaco had three hits. One was a terrible bunt that he popped up that just died when it landed. Another was off a pitch that was in the dirt.

    • pat

And two were wormburners through a drawn in infield.

      • Tom

The flyout may have been the hardest hit ball of the night for him.

… but that wouldn’t make for a good story

  • christopher

    Love Chavez.

  • Mike N

    Chavez!

  • JohnnyC

The real question is if Ciriaco were a Yankee doing this in a game against the Red Sox would Joe Buck still jizz his pants? I think not. He’d probably make fun of his neck with McCarver cackling mindlessly in the background.

    • pat

Nope guaranteed they’d be making references to Shane Spence and Shelley Duncan as guys who have amazing couple games when they first come up then fizzle out.

      • pat

        *Spencer

      • JohnnyC

At least Spencer and Duncan were close to actual prospects. Gomez and Ciriaco will be playing in Korea in 3 years.

  • pat

Fucking asshole Girardi should have used Chavez earlier in the game. NL MotY my ASS

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

he did. Chavez PH in the seventh.

Chavez. Refusing to go down w/o a fight :)

    Embedded Yankee Aceves strikes again.

  • Widget

I still don’t miss Aceves one bit.

  • bobtaco

I’ll take that as some O’Neill theory for tomorrow

  • Captain Gift Basket

Batting Arod down by 5 and the bases empty? Dumbfounding.

    • Mike Stanley

It was more “not batting Russell Martin”.

  • Will The Thrill

YES! No 1-2-3 inning for you. We’ll be back tomorrow!

  • DERP

    Aceves is one sweaty motherfucker.

  • flamingo

Chavez – still making me glad he decided against retiring.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Since when is that pitch a strike in this game?

  • DERP

    Paul Oneill rule in effect.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

not sure a solo HR qualifies

  • Tom Q

So, obviously Chavez should have hit for Nix.

  • DERP

I wonder if they will trade Middlebrooks for a utility player and a AAA pitcher to free up ABs for Gomez and Ciriaco.

    • JohnnyC

They should sell high on Middlebrooks. He sucks just like Lavarnway and Lars Andersen.

  • Will The Thrill

What a FOX sports Boy and Girls club commercial with a Yankee player in it? Whaaaa!

  • forensic

Fully expecting Girardi to say in his postgame comments that this game didn’t matter and that’s why he used Wade. Right, Greg?

    Go Angels

  • Betty Lizard

Meh. Might as well make a big mess as a little one. Glad I couldn’t watch it.
Cheers for 2-1 and the All Star break.

  • JohnnyC

Based on the way he managed tonight, Girardi must be pretty confident his team will beat Lester tomorrow.
