ALDS Game Four Spillover Thread III

Let’s break some hearts tonight.

Categories : Game Threads, Playoffs

  1. Psy says:

    discount double check!

  2. Joe F says:

Only when I go to the game Raul hits PH walkoffs! Dammit!

  3. Cy Pettitte says:

I would rather lose the DH over putting Nunez at SS

  4. Souter Fell says:

    True Yankee status obviously revoked.

  5. Alexh says:

jeter can play short and we lose DH

  6. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Alright I’m outta here. Hope all your relatives get Alzheimer’s. Good night, everyone!

  7. Pasqua says:

Prediction: This game’s gonna go 137 innings.

  8. Matt says:

With Hughes out of the game, Ibanez should have been PH for Granderson, not Nix. Now you have to put Nunez at SS and lose Ibanez’s bat for the rest of the night. At least the other way you can stick him out in LF and move Ichiro to CF.

  9. The Real Greg says:

Well Buck is down to 3 relievers, Strop, Johnson, and Tillman

  10. cjc says:

they should start this guy he’s amazing The Darren O’Day

  11. King George says:

Does anyone else just feel sick? So bummed!

  12. CUYanks says:

Please don’t hit a grounder to short. Please don’t hit a grounder to short. Please don’t hit a grounder to short.

  13. Winter says:

Does Ibanez stay in the game and replace Swisher perhaps?

  14. Extra innings. Again.

It’s ridiculous that it has come to this.

  15. Hummingbird S. says:

Girardi is doing a pretty good job of keeping the O’s tied.

  16. JLC 776 says:

O’Day will pitch fifteen innings tonight.. Ugh.

  17. jjyank (Phil Phucking Hugheslladay) says:

God damn it, more extra innings. Don’t the Yankees know I still have to work in the morning? This series is killing me.

  18. David N says:

Why the hell is Joe hitting for a guy who is actually hitting instead of Grandy? Now we’ll lose both Ibanez and Nix, and Nunez will be in the game.

    Horribly managed.

    • Mikhel says:

In the first game he also lost three players in one move in the 9th after Martin’s HR: used Núñez to pinch run for Ibáñez, and then inserted Gardner for Núñez when it was time to field the bottom of the 9th.

He could have used Gardner or Dickerson and not lose Núñez.

  19. Karl Krawfid says:

    Nunez at short…

    Oh no.

  20. Winter says:

Nunez better get 0 balls hit to him this inning.

  21. King George says:

Eat a dick. All these announcers can suck it. So biased and openly rooting against us.

  22. Fiedin culbreth wets the bed says:

    Nunez at SS

    -Mother of God

    -James Earle Jones

  23. jm says:

seriously someone here explain pitch hitting for teh guy who hit the ball hard all night and putting nunez into the game…I don’t understand and want to

    • Nice Scheister of Doom says:

I thought they were gonna put Raul in LF, Ichiro in center, Nunez at SS and bench Grandy.

    • forensic says:

There is no explanation for it.

      • jm says:

really? there’s always someone on here who at least understands joe’s moves. i mean nix was hitting great all night…

        • forensic says:

Nix is far from a great player, and it’s a righty on the mound that time, but there are at least 3 guys in the lineup who should’ve been PH for tonight before him.

  24. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

Nunez, you better not boot it!

  25. Hummingbird S. says:

    comon Sori, no funny business.

  26. Eddard says:

Way to use your lone bullet for a guy who was 2-3 tonight and no runners on base instead of for an aging star with the winning run on 3rd. Awful strategy tonight from Joe one night after he made a great move.

    • Mikhel says:

It was not a great move, it was the correct move. Great move when you force something (a bunt, a squeeze play, hit and run).

  27. Pinedas' Colada says:

The only bright side of all of this is the O’s are just as bad right now.

  28. Chris says:

    Girardi has destroyed this game.

  29. Cuso says:

I don’t like this flaherty guy

  30. Alexh says:

I really wouldn’t mind a refund for my game 5 tickets!

  31. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

That was a fucken swing, not even close.

  32. Cuso says:

Stop scaring me Grandy. Not funny.

  33. Dale Mohorcic says:

don’t like backuardo in the field.

  34. Austin's Bat says:

With 2nd and 3rd and one out if you PH Ibanez for ARod, I suspect Buck walks him. With O’Day on the mound. He might bring in another lefty if he could (can’t recall who is left in the O’s pen). Would have wasted that DH spot – Martin also a bad matchup for O’day after Swisher.

    • Eddard says:

With Swisher I’ve got a better shot at a fly ball. Better shot at contact, period. A-Rod can’t hit O-Day just like he can’t hit Johnson. He’s helpless. He needs to be platooned for the rest of the playoffs.

      • Austin's Bat says:

In that case maybe you DH Chavez or even Gardner with the expectation he walks. Seems like a waste of Raul’s power/fly ball potential if they are going to walk the DH anyways. I think its more of a marginal call than the press will explode it to be. If Ibanez was up there I would walk him.

    • David N says:

I have no problem with him not using Ibanez there, but if you’re going to use him for a hopeful HR in the 9th, why not use him in place of the guy who isn’t hitting and who won’t result in Nunez being in the field?

    • anon says:

Except Swish was up next and he’s a switch hitter. And Chavez in on the bench and could’ve came in to play third base

  35. Hall and Nokes says:

It would have been fun to see some of that Oakland series.

  36. forensic says:

Serious question, has Smoltz said a single thing about strategy in terms of what would be beneficial to the Yankees? It’s amazing, it’s like he thinks all the O’s have earphones and he’s just trying to be an extra coach.

  37. Cuso says:

Don’t give Machado a fastball here

  38. TampaYankee says:

Little miffed by that move. I mean the rarity of Raul hitting the 2 HR’s last night was extraordinary, the likelihood of him doing it again tonight? Less than impossible. I would like to see Raul get a few more at bats and Nix played really well. Now we have NunEEEEEEz playing short. So we lose 2 decent bats and a better fielder for one worse bat and a far worse fielder.

Time for one of the other guys to come up big. How sweet would an A-Rod walkoff be? I mean we have Cano, Swisher, Grandy, and Tex who all are excellent players who can do it. Time for someone to stand up and send us to the ALCS.

    • Winter says:

You do know that Ibanez hitting two HRs last night has absolutely no effect on his chances of hitting one tonight, right?

      • TampaYankee says:

I realize this, but just the idea of 3 HR’s in 3 straight at bats like that is crazy. To think he did the near impossible last night, he can’t be expected to do that again regardless whether his 3rd at bat was last night or tonight. Plus a third consecutive clutch HR is hard to do as a pinch hitter I feel regardless of time in between.

    • jm says:

I’m still waiting for someone explain that PH move to me. And please talk to me like I’m stupid, because I don’t understand even a little bit.

      • anon says:

Agreed. Should’ve PH for Arod with Ichiro on 3rd, then bring in Chavez to play 3B.

      • TampaYankee says:

The only thing I have is we have plenty of other players who can, and really fucking should, do something. Time for them to step up.

Now testing fate like that here in the playoffs in extra innings might not be the best plan, but I don’t know what else he was thinking other than another gut feeling.

  39. Dale Mohorcic says:

yankees offense couldn’t score at the mustang ranch right now.

  40. Oh boy, Nate McLouth now.

  41. Effthisnoise says:

That fucking golf swing scares me

  42. Fiedin culbreth wets the bed says:

    Nate juicing mcclouth

  43. Jeter-Ichiro-Tex

  44. Don't Get Phelps Up says:

The pitching in this series has just been amazing.

  45. Hummingbird S. says:

    time to win this shit

  46. Pasqua says:

The only saving grace of the Yanks’ offense: the O’s offense.

  47. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Win it now please.
Don’t really want to get into the rest of the pen.

  48. OMG! Bagels! says:

If Jeter, Ichiro and Tex can’t get it done, then fuck it, it can’t be done.

  49. Eddard says:

Well at least we’ve got Jeter up this inning. He’s hitting at least. Problem is if he gets on Joe will have Ichiro bunt and then the three stooges won’t be able to get him in. We’re stuck unless one of our hot hitters hits a HR. Problem is, Joe has already burned two, Nix and Raul.

  50. Ethan says:

Anyone else feeling a Jeet opposite field shot?

  51. Fiedin culbreth wets the bed says:

    Finish this game please .

  52. jm says:

    verlander dealing.

  53. CS Yankee says:

    Jeet going yard.

  54. Robinson Tilapia (I BELIEVE IN PHIL HUGHES!) says:

I’m back. I’m fired up. I intend on working in the phrase “MALARKEY” in here somewhere. Let’s win this!

  55. Hummingbird S. says:

Cy Young back for one more inning

  56. Alexh says:

A rod now has 9 punch outs in 15 postseason AB this year. DONE.

  57. It’s Hardy, Davis, and Jones next inning.

Win it here and avoid that problem.

  58. cjc says:

I can’t take this O’day shit any longer its fucking unreal he’s a god damn roogy pitching multiple innings what is wrong with the world

  59. David N says:

How long can O’Day go before he tires?

  60. forensic says:

    Come on, SOMEONE!!!

  61. jm says:

tex deserves a lot of respect – playing hurt and putting the ball in play this series.

  62. forensic says:

What the fuck kind of swing was that?!?!?!

This is offensive offense. Just pitiful.

  63. Against a RP being stretched like hell, that was ridiculously unproductive.

  64. cjc says:

    seriously come on guys shit

  65. King George says:

    First Pitch Jeter!

  66. Cy Pettitte says:

last thing they need is to give O’Day quick outs

  67. JobaWockeeZ says:

This is a fucking joke of an offense.

  68. David N says:

Holy crap can someone take some pitches?

  69. Wait, are you fucking kidding me right now?

  70. Knoxvillain says:

  71. Dale Mohorcic says:

way to make him throw 2 pitches.

  72. Robinson Tilapia (I BELIEVE IN PHIL HUGHES!) says:

We must really want O’Day to pitch another inning after this.

  73. Hummingbird S. says:

Darren Rivera, greatest reliever of all time.

  74. cjc says:

fuck it he should have thrown all game these guys

  75. JLC 776 says:

  76. The Real Greg says:

Why in the world are you swinging at the First pitch?

    Just end this please.

  77. Fiedin culbreth wets the bed says:

  78. Effthisnoise says:

Trying to get this guy out of the game? 2pitches 2 outs. Nice guys

  79. Pat D says:

So glad they’ve made it easy on the O’s pitchers.

  80. The Next Guy says:

Only way we win this is if someone hits one out.

  81. cjc says:

    frisbee frisbee frisbee stfu already

  82. TomH says:

    This is getting ominous

  83. The Next Guy says:

    This isn’t even fun anymore.

  84. OMG! Bagels! says:

This should have happened this inning. The strain on the pitching staff is bad news.

  85. jm says:

    who’s this cano guy?

  86. Rise up, Robbie.

    You’re more than over-due.

  87. JobaWockeeZ says:

Good job Tex, at least one of you likes looking at more than one pitch.

  88. cjc says:

    walk him for Arod

  89. flamingo says:

Tex’s third walk of the game.

  90. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

Robbie, PLEASE! Also O’Day please don’t straight walk him…

  91. Souter Fell says:

Time for a big Robbie Cano smile.

  92. Don't Get Phelps Up says:

    Strop warming!

  93. CS Yankee says:

    Cano, FTW

  94. Hummingbird S. says:

    I’d definitely walk Cano..

  95. Cy Pettitte says:

here comes the unintentional intentional walk unless Robbie strikes himself out

  96. TomH says:

    Mr. .125

  97. The Next Guy says:

Please Robbie! I wanna go to bed!

  98. Austin's Bat says:

O’Day against Cano? Do they walk Cano to face ARod again?

  99. Fiedin culbreth wets the bed says:

Strope up we can win this.

  100. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

Damnit, base runners. I’d prefer the idea of a solo shot, we’re doomed!

  101. TinoBambino24 says:

  102. forensic says:

I was gonna say the thought of an IBB to Cano had to cross Showalter’s mind, but the way Cano is sucking as bad as anyone, why even bother.

  103. The Next Guy says:

  104. Robbie has been fucking worthless in this series.

Along with almost everyone else, aside from Jeter and Ibanez.

  105. Hummingbird S. says:

    full of chokers

  106. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

  107. Yankeefan says:

    arod will win this game

  108. Knoxvillain says:

Cano doing what Tex forgot to do.

  109. JLC 776 says:

I hate this team. (Unless they walk off)

  110. The Real Greg says:

I don’t think anybody’s going to win this game

  111. cjc says:

Robbie is no fucking better than Arod Swisher Granderson they all look terrible

  112. Hans Moleman says:

Eh.. Please be the good Joba today.

  113. TinoBambino24 says:

    Ding dong.

    Who is it?

    Another limp-dick inning.

  114. Excluding the 9th inning of Game 1, the Yankees are averaging 1.89 R/G right now.

    No, really.

  115. TomH says:

That may have been it. It’s a question now of which team’s ice-cold hitter finally turns warm.

  116. David N says:

Wouldn’t it be nice if D-Rob had pitched two innings? We’d still have Soriano in there. Instead, we don’t.

  117. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

Terrible. Darren O’Day, Nate McClouth and Joe Saunders. Wow.

  118. Effthisnoise says:

Please no stress 8 pitch inning

  119. Andy Pettitte's Fibula says:

Where the hell is Aaron Boone when you need him.

  120. Fiedin culbreth wets the bed says:

Big man joba in to grunt and fart.

  121. OMG! Bagels! says:

Red Sox / Yankees games go on for hours and hours because they’re all patient hitters. I don’t know what the hell the reason is for this shit.

  122. Jobber vs. Hardy-Davis-Jones

    Hope this isn’t too bad.

  123. The Next Guy says:

It’s gotten to the point where a win will give me more relief than joy.

  124. Robinson Tilapia (I BELIEVE IN PHIL HUGHES!) says:

I will momentarily pause and pray for this half-inning.

  125. Pasqua says:

Neither team deserves this game. How the hell will it end?!

  126. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

I want no less than three fist pumps.

  127. Defensive Indifference says:

Yeah. Joba’s had an up and down year. (Pun intended.)

  128. Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

I feel very confident. Yanks are up 2-1, still have good relievers left, and that run will come around eventually.

And the pitching has been lights out. I care about that a lot more than I care about the lack of offense.

  129. JLC 776 says:

How are we down to Joba already?

  130. Dale Mohorcic says:

    come on hutt

  131. captain kiwi says:

so im kinda glad its extra innings since i just got off work and i get to watch some baseball. hopefully we see the yankees knock out the o’s :p

let’s go yankees! fuck that stupid extra innings record!

  132. cjc says:

idk Joba makes me a bit nervous

  133. David N says:

    Nice play, Tex. A-Rod too.

  134. TinoBambino24 says:

Damn, I wished that tag knock Hardy out!

  135. Dale Mohorcic says:

a-rod keeps it away from backuardo. good work, a-rod.

  136. JLC 776 says:

    Nice play on both ends.

  137. The Real Greg says:

Almost everything has been crap about this game. The umpires, the offenses, the players…

  138. forensic says:

Geez, could you imagine how loud the stadium would’ve gotten if Tex hadn’t smacked Hardy upside the head in time?

  139. Hummingbird S. says:

there it is, arod trying to win the game for the Os… thank god for Teix!

  140. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

  141. JFH says:

i’m generally confident in yanks, until joba takes the mound.

  142. cjc says:

nice work Alex cut off Nuny

  143. jm says:

    maybe CC should hit!

  144. Hummingbird S. says:

that’s the Chris Davis I know

  145. forensic says:

Wow, Chris Davis just made Granderson almost look good…

  146. CS Yankee says:

And I thought Grandy swings at bad shit, wow!

  147. TinoBambino24 says:

    And here’s Grandersons’ twin performer.

  148. Andy Pettitte's Fibula says:

Joba’s slider is filthy tonight. Those were Guidry like.

  149. Adam says:

  150. David N says:

    Nunez made a play. And…exhale.

  151. Don't Get Phelps Up says:

Nunez makes the play! That means we win.

  152. Fiedin culbreth wets the bed says:

Holy shit nunez made a play.

  153. Hans Moleman says:

That 6-3 went in slow motion in my head.

  154. Knoxvillain says:

  155. Hummingbird S. says:

  156. Rek4gehrig says:

Orioles suck as badly as we do. This is unreal

  157. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Yay Nunee!

Win this fucking game already please.

  158. I would say something to the effect of “WIN THIS NOW”, but it hasn’t worked at all, so fuck it.

  159. cjc says:

its meant to be an easy play at SS without an error they can’t lose

  160. Cy Pettitte says:

so awesome to see Joba and Phil pitching well in the playoffs

  161. Kevin says:

  162. HughesPhanInBeantown says:

    Joba to the rotation!

  163. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

    NUNNNUNUNIEEEE! Nunez ladies and gentlemen.

  164. captain kiwi says:

  165. Fiedin culbreth wets the bed says:

Strope got hammered by us this year.

  166. Pasqua says:

When Joba doesn’t even have to break a sweat, you know the O’s are just as fucked as the Yanks at the plate.

  167. TomH says:

OK, now we don’t want Joba to pitch any more tonight. What did he throw? 8? That’s enough. Quit while ahead. Score ONE little run, just 1 will do it.

  168. Hall and Nokes says:

    Nunie is so good.

  169. forensic says:

A-Rod: 2-1 count, walk-off homer on a slider that gets too much of the plate.

  170. The Next Guy says:

I really wish it to A-Rod that he should hit a walk-off.

  171. Adam says:

    Oh yes…Pedro Strop.

  172. OMG! Bagels! says:

Our pitching has been awesome. I can’t believe they are not frustrated with the lack of run support.

  173. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

Strop…this game is as good as won :D

  174. Ethan says:

OK, win tonight and the ‘pen gets a day off. Let’s do it! Do it for the tired ‘pen!

  175. Maybe Strop can suck against the Yankees again.

  176. jm says:

to stay positive – hughes did a good job!

  177. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Pedro Strop.
They have to win now, right?

  178. Yankeefan says:

good trow nunez :) i was talking to a friend of mines who is very good friends with nunez and he tells me nunez is a very nervous person and thats why he commits so many errors.

    • OMG! Bagels! says:

How the hell do you get to the big leagues as a “nervous person”?

      • Yankeefan says:

he has the talent but ever since hes known him hes been a nervous person.hes known him since they played in the dominican republic.

    • captain kiwi says:

i don’t blame nunez. hard enough playing in the big leagues, let alone all that pressure playing for the greatest team in sports.

  179. David N says:

    Pedro Stroop.

  180. Eddard says:

We’ve finally got to a guy we can hit. Beat Strop here or we lose.

  181. Robinson Tilapia (I BELIEVE IN PHIL HUGHES!) says:

Most likely to get this done? My bet’s on Swisher.

  182. Ace says:

Trying to be like CC with that hat. Bad idea young fella.

  183. Defensive Indifference says:

Not having O’Day stay in to face A-Rod is a mistake. Hope he takes advantage.

  184. captain kiwi says:

    a-bomb por favor

  185. TinoBambino24 says:

    We need Chavie

  186. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

Thank fucking god O’Day s out. Tattoo this dude Alex!

  187. Fiedin culbreth wets the bed says:

Mlb needs a rule fix that the cap has to be worn properly or a fine per game.

  188. At least he didn’t strike out this time.

  189. The Next Guy says:

  190. Hummingbird S. says:

  191. CG says:

gogogogogo I predict a swish HR

  192. The Next Guy says:

I didn’t know this level of suck was possible.

  193. David N says:

    Swish is just missing.

  194. Dale Mohorcic says:

i wonder what george would have called a-rod.

  195. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

The Oriole’s strike zone is just getting bigger and bigger. It’s going to be batters box to batters box and neck to ankles like in little league.

  196. Hummingbird S. says:

another one to the warning track… three for swisher tonight

  197. Swisher has been teasing all night. Asshole.

  198. TomH says:

    5 pitches? 2 outs?

  199. captain kiwi says:

  200. The Next Guy says:

What I would give for this to just fucking end right now.

  201. Cy Pettitte says:

    there’s your Maier reference

  202. Pat D says:

You asshole, Smoltz. If a fan had touched the ball, they’d call the batter out.

  203. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

Jesus Montero would’ve hit a HR.

  204. rconn23 says:

Just awful, awful approaches by almost every Yankee hitter. Just a miserable performance.

  205. Jeffery meyer says:

Would you guys stop saying my fucking name

  206. Down to 1.85 R/G. Meanwhile, this game continues to shift more and more into the Orioles favor, the longer it goes.

  207. JobaWockeeZ says:

His last name is Strop not Martinez god damn it.

  208. The Next Guy says:

Smoltz and Cal are really just bad speakers.

  209. Hummingbird S. says:

    yup, they still suck

  210. David N says:

Pedro Strop is getting this lineup out? What bizarro world is this?

  211. Pat D says:

I’m afraid this is starting to favor the O’s.

  212. Babe's Ghost says:

if girardi had pinch hit ibanez for arod, we would have had a second chance at magic. On the other hand, Girardi can now say Arod is making progress… broke his streak of 7 consecutive strikeouts.

  213. cjc says:

now I get it gods an O’s fan Strop just said so

  214. Matt says:

Swisher has JUST MISSED on a few of these balls. Man. Hopefully our bullpen can keep taking advantage of their aggressiveness. We have way more arms left than they do.

  215. Pasqua says:

    Everybody is just embarrassing themselves.

  216. The Real Greg says:

How is this starting to favor the O’s? They can’t hit a lick either.

  217. youngmanalex says:

if joba gets out of this inning. Im feeling it, in the bottom of the 12th.

  218. 101010 says:

Let’s give our pitchers a chance to hit. They seem to be the only players on the team who want to win.

  219. Ethan says:

Marisa Miller I love you almost as much as i love my yankees!

  220. Jeffery meyer says:

    Fuck you guys!

  221. Hummingbird S. says:

Joba for one more and then Phelps?

  222. Wieters-Ford-Reynolds

Just get it to the bottom half tied.

  223. Adam says:

    Ugh, holy crap….

  224. cjc says:

  225. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

    OH FUCK. pleasebeokaypleasebeokaypleasebeokay.

  226. Great. Jobber impaled, and a baserunner.

  227. forensic says:

Geez, just what Joba needed. Right off the elbow. Hopefully just the funny bone or something.

  228. Pat D says:

Joba might be the most snakebitten player the Yankees have ever had.

  229. JobaWockeeZ says:

  230. David N says:

    Ruh roh.

  231. Athenian says:

    This will not end well.

  232. Jeffery meyer says:

Almost had the first death by bat its coming.

    • jay says:

absolutely. something has to be done about these bats. they get less safe every year. restrictions need to be imposed.

  233. Hummingbird S. says:

  234. Babe's Ghost says:

seriously? midges? flying bats? fuck you

  235. Defensive Indifference says:

Jeff Maier caught the ball. And the Yanks proceeded to take three straight games in Camden Yards, one of which they won because the O’s second baseman let the ball go through his legs. But they were “robbed.” STFU.

    • Pat D says:

Everyone also always assumes that they’d still win Game 2 and all that jazz. And what’s to say the Yankees didn’t still tie that game somehow. I still say Tarasco wouldn’t have caught the ball, the it was going to hit the wall above his glove and Jeter would have had a double.

  236. Cy Pettitte says:

Joba has the worst luck, ugh.

  237. Well, if he can get through this, he deserves the W.

  238. Jeffery meyer says:

    90 mph nothing wrong.

  239. Athenian says:

I would not leave him in,, He will give up a 2 run bomb.

  240. Pasqua says:

I know the guy wants to stay in the game, but JESUS CHRIST! How do you take his word on this?!

  241. Hummingbird S. says:

this is dangerous… Joba after getting hit by a bat with a runner on

  242. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

Funny bone? I guess? That’s what it looked like…he looked fine taking a few to the glove…

  243. David N says:

    Crap. Bring on Lowe.

  244. Alas, he can’t.

    Can’t blame him.

  245. BigBlueAL says:

The Yankee offense just got Joba injured.

  246. Hummingbird S. says:

correct decision.. this is so unfortunate. Terrible luck.

  247. Matt says:

Joba will be OK. They’re probably just getting him out of there to ice him before that swells up. Tons of arms left in the pen, no need to push it.

  248. Widget says:

Smoltz and Ripken are both clowns. Especially Smoltz. So happy that the Yankees were able to end his career while he dressed in the ultimate clown costume, a Red Sox uniform.

  249. TinoBambino24 says:

  250. captain kiwi says:

see that greg? THAT’s bad luck. fucking shit.

    • The Troll says:

Haha. I don’t know if you’re exclaiming, “fucking shit” or calling Greg a “fucking shit” . . . I hope it was the latter. Or both, so long as the latter has greater emphasis.

      • captain kiwi says:

alas, i’m the non-confrontational type. greg hasn’t done anything to warrant me calling him a fucking shit. were i five beers deeper, however…

  251. Jeffery meyer says:

    Whos in Lowe?

  252. Pasqua says:

Midges, trampolines, and bats. Oh, my.

  253. Ethan says:

hit by a pitch = out, hit by a bat should = out.

  254. Eddard says:

And this ballgame is probably lost now all because Joe wouldn’t pinch hit for A-Rod when the winning run was on 3rd. We’re just going to run out of good pitchers. Offense can’t do anything. Joe removed his best hitter tonight to PH Raul and now he can’t come back in. Who’s going to get the big hit? Granderson? LOL! Cano? Ha! A-Rod? The whiff.

  255. CS Yankee says:

I would not choose Joba to be on my dodgeball team.

Feels like his middle name is “freak injury”.

  256. JobaWockeeZ says:

Fuck whoever broke their bat. Don’t care if it’s bad luck, still his bat.

  257. David Phelps. Time for him to get in on the act of dominating.

  258. BigBlueAL says:

    Twitter says Phelps is in.

  259. Tom Zig says:

We got this. Keep the faith!

  260. OMG! Bagels! says:

We shouldn’t be in this situation. Joba should not have had to be pitching. This is all on the offense.

  261. JLC 776 says:

This is the unlikeliest series ever.

  262. TinoBambino24 says:

We still got this inning. Weiters can’t run a lick.

  263. David N says:

Detroit/Oakland is in the 6th. They could legitimately end that game before this one.

  264. Dale Mohorcic says:

Record for strikeouts by an offensive player in the DS is 11 in 22 PA’s. A-rod has 9 in 18 PA’s. Granderson chasing him with 8 K’s in 16 PA’s.

  265. forensic says:

Ok Phelps, hope you took all the time you needed to warm. Can’t afford you to not be warm (though you’ll probably already be a little rusty which is no good for your control).

  266. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Settle down Phelps.

  267. Robinson Tilapia (I BELIEVE IN PHIL HUGHES!) says:

Was off doing dishes. Someday there will be a Broadway play based on all the weird shit that has happened to Joba Chamberlain. Hope he’s OK. I guess I’d be concerned about….a break? Breaks heal, though.

  268. Hummingbird S. says:

Phelps might be nervous… shitty throw over

  269. Stratman9652 says:

Even if he does feel fine still the right move to pull him. Can’t rick that elbow getting inflamed.

  270. JLC 776 says:

    Let’s go Yankees!!!! C’mon!!!!!

  271. Widget says:

It’s Lew Ford. get him the hell out.

  272. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

That has been a strike for the O’s ALL FUCKING NIGHT.

  273. Cy Pettitte says:

    that’s a strike for any O’s pitcher.

  274. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

    Right down broadway…ball.

  275. Hummingbird S. says:

    most unfair strikezone ever…

  276. Lew Ford.

    This is fucking infuriating.

  277. Hummingbird S. says:

Ford is on everything Phelps is throwing… dangerous AB

  278. The Real Greg says:

Why even bother to try when this strikexone is so unfair.

  279. captain kiwi says:

sweet, gotta get four strikes for ford.

  280. HughesPhanInBeantown says:

    About fucking time

  281. Jack says:

    The strikezone seems amorphous tonight.

  282. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

Phelps, King Ford and getting him to fly out in the same AB. That’s impressive.

  283. forensic says:

Now I’m really fucking pissed. I live in the damn desert and now a storm has to come through and knock out my satellite…

  284. JLC 776 says:

I haven’t watched an ALDS with this kind of live or die tension on every pitch since 1996.

  285. captain kiwi says:

phelps kinda looks like the rapper krispy kreme…

  286. JLC 776 says:

    Fuck…. I hate Andino.

  287. Winter says:

C’mon Phelpsie make your pitch here…

  288. Adam says:

    Great job, young man.

  289. David N says:

    Now win this thing.

  290. Total Dominication says:

    Yeah Phelps!

  291. Souter Fell says:

    Let’s do it for Joba!!!

  292. Winter says:

  293. Cy Pettitte says:

    Phelpsie! great fucking job.

  294. Hummingbird S. says:

  295. Robinson Tilapia (I BELIEVE IN PHIL HUGHES!) says:

Somehow, the scoreboard just changed to NYY 1, BAL 1, Eddard 1.

  296. BJ says:

Think Phelps will be asked for multiple innings tonight?

  297. JLC 776 says:

  298. The Next Guy says:

    Yeah, he’s okay.

  299. Well done, Dave. Time for this fucking game to end.

  300. VT Yankee Fan (Phil Phranchise) says:

12 Ks in 12 innings for Yankee pitching.

  301. Eddard says:

Big Game Dave Phelps just gave us another chance to win here. The only question is do they go down on 6 pitches this time or 13?

  302. Robinson Tilapia (I BELIEVE IN PHIL HUGHES!) says:

    Dear Yankees,

I have a 14 month-old who is giving us hell with sleep at night and want to go to the gym at 6:30 AM tomorrow. Get it done this inning.

  303. youngmanalex says:

man the orioles are just flat out accepting defeat, and we are being little bitches about it.

  304. JLC 776 says:

  305. CS Yankee says:

It is now uptime for Nunie to get his first PS dinger or Jeter his 21st.

    I’m good either way.

  306. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

Can we win this before Verlander beats the A’s?!

  307. Joe F says:

    I’m tired. Win now.

  308. pistol pete says:

Eleven innings and one run, a 200m payroll and 1 run, pathetic.

  309. Jimmy says:

    Verlander in beast mode.

  310. David N says:

This game is taking years off my lifespan.

  311. The Troll says:

Hey Mike, since I know you’re a pro with the stat hunting I figured I could ask you this question . . . Is this an historically bad showing for the Yankees in an ALDS?

  312. Adam says:

Mark my words, Yanks will win without Johnson getting into the game…

  313. cjc says:

please end this series tonight if nothing else to end this fucking broadcast

  314. Cy Pettitte says:

swung at ball 4 mother fucker.

  315. David N says:

  316. 3-1, and Kurtis still manages to whiff.

Against a pitcher with NO command.

  317. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Just fucking put Gardner in.

  318. Ace says:

I think Granderson is blind. Someone help him.

  319. forensic says:

How nice, satellite comes back in time for me to see Granderson flail away…

    • Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in the 12th Inning) says:

Or he was just flailing away the entire time.

      • forensic says:

        Another name change I see.

I think it’s reached the point where we all have to think they won’t do it, then it’ll happen. It’s all about the reverse psychology magic…

        Geez, I sound like Greg…

  320. Adam says:

    Granderson looks awful out there.

  321. youngmanalex says:

that ball rolled over home plate, but that little bitch granderson….

  322. Knoxvillain says:

Granderson has went from one of my favorite player to my most hated. I never want him to play in a ML game ever again. For any team.

  323. Hummingbird S. says:

Garner and Chavez on the bench, Granderson and A-Rod still playing.. Girardi is to blame

    • The Real Greg says:

And you are going to hell.

      • Knoxvillain says:

Did you have a sexual relationship with your father?

      • Robinson Tilapia (I Believe in the 12th Inning) says:

Now I’m wishing for someone to make some perverse joke involving binder sodomy, just to spite you.

      • SammySosasBleachingCream says:

For pointing out that the manager’s leaving in players who can’t get it done? For not pinch hitting against O’Day? That doesn’t sound like a mortal sin to me.

  324. CS Yankee says:

KKKKKKKKKurtis, were you worried that Nate looked worse in his last AB?

  325. Widget says:

OH MY GOD. Please trade him. Please. He’s terrible. I hate Granderson. I never wanted to, but he gave me no choice this season.

    • Ace says:

I think there’s a team option for him next year. The Yanks should pick it up and hope for a great contract year. Then let the market decide his value.

  326. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

Grandy…you’re really right on par with Adam Dunn at this point. Come on man. You used to be much more disciplined than this…

  327. These at bats are absolutely fucking awful.

  328. Matt says:

You simply can’t afford to play Granderson right now. Ibanez has to play LF with everyone but Hughes on the mound.

  329. captain kiwi says:

oh grandy… that was just awful…

  330. SammySosasBleachingCream says:

Curtis is trying so hard for that golden sombrero.

  331. David N says:

    Come on, Cap’. Do something.

  332. JobaWockeeZ says:

Pedro Strop. Lol. Fix this offense Cash.

  333. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

I love the Yankee expanded strike zone.

  334. Effthisnoise says:

Everone talking about arod, grandy is straight up criminal

  335. Widget says:

Inexcusable for Granderson to be allowed to play tomorrow.

  336. Pat D says:

Is it so hard to just string a few hits together?

  337. SammySosasBleachingCream says:

    Grandy’s at-bats make Alex’s look incredibly disciplined.

  338. The Troll says:

You have to bench Granderson tomorrow (if it comes to that) and I’d personally prefer Chavez over A-Rod. There’s absolutely no excuse now for leaving Grandy in. None.

  339. Even Jeter’s swinging at total shit now.

  340. Pat D says:

Jeter looked worse than ARod on that pitch.

  341. Joe F says:

Okay that swing should count as two swings. Just horrible.

  342. Athenian says:

Good grief. There are some horrible AB’s. Granderson should just sit on the bench and stop embarrassing himself.

  343. BigBlueAL says:

WTF are the Yankee hitters doing??

  344. JLC 776 says:

I’ve never seen two such completely inept offensives in the playoffs. Both teams should just be ashamed.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

Yeah but one team spent like 120 million this year on their offense. The other was expected to end in last place.

  345. Widget says:

Nice swing Jeter. Pathetic. This team is getting smoked tomorrow. The Orioles will have all the momentum.

  346. cjc says:

Jetes taking lessons from Curtis I see

  347. David N says:

Winning run on base. Ichiro, it’s your moment.

  348. Joe F says:

    So that was the plan.

  349. Karl Krawfid says:

Can’t watch the game. Satellite and it’s cloudy.

  350. Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle AKA True Yankee(TM) says:

Derek Jeter and Nate Mclouth are the only two people in this game that look like Major League hitters.

  351. Pat D says:

4-0 Tigers. I’m calling that game over.

    • BJ says:

Best part is that if we make it to the next round to face them, we may not even have to see Verlander at all.

  352. BJ says:

    Nice hit Cap’n.

  353. Joe F says:

    Fuckkk my eyes burn.

  354. cjc says:

    these teams are terrible

  355. Pat D says:

Alright this game is now fucking insufferable.

  356. Pasqua says:

This is pathetic. Win or lose, I’m numb.

  357. SammySosasBleachingCream says:

This offense. This fucking offense. One measly RBI groundout in 12 innings. God, even if they advance I can’t imagine what they’ll do against the Tigers.
But then, I heard you can’t predict baseball.

  358. forensic says:

I still don’t understand. Why the ‘wow, wow’ at plays by Reynolds? All these plays are basically just him falling on the damn ball because he’s an unathletic terrible defender.

  359. 1.80 R/G, now.

Keeps on finding ways to get lower.

  360. BigBlueAL says:

With the way these hitters are going for both teams I predict a Verlander No-Hitter in Game 3 of the ALCS.

  361. Dela G says:

when the fuck did mark reynolds look like marky T on defense?? he was a butcher last year at 3rd base

  362. Eddard says:

    My lineup for next inning-

Swisher(He’s almost got a few out of the park)

That gives us our best chance to win. I’m sick of watching the same guys go up there in big spots and strike out. Alex and Granderson should not be playing.
