Game 160: Obsessed

(Jared Wickerham/Getty)

This might be news to you, but the Red Sox and most of their fans have a bit of an obsession with the Yankees. They would rather knock the Yankees out of the postseason this year as payback for their collapse last year rather than the Orioles, the team that actually knocked them out of the playoffs a year ago. Boston rolled over in Baltimore this weekend and lined up two of their three best starters for this final series of the season this week. You know they’re just itching to make life miserable for the Bombers. Here’s the starting nine…

SS Derek Jeter
LF Ichiro Suzuki
DH Alex Rodriguez
2B Robinson Cano
1B Mark Teixeira
RF Nick Swisher
CF Curtis Granderson
Russell Martin
3B Eric Chavez

LHP CC Sabathia

Tonight’s game is scheduled to start  little after 7pm ET and can be seen on YES. Enjoy.

  1. Get Phelps Up says:

No Pedroia OR Ellsbury for the Red Sox…they must really want that top 5 draft pick.

  2. Mike N says:

Let’s pound the shit out of these motherfuckers!

  3. Joe F says:

Boston fans are going to be saddened by this, but they can’t knock us from playoff contention. They can ruin the division, but we’re in the Wild Card at least.

  4. VT Yankee Fan says:

Gag, stuck watching the games on NESN.

  5. Zack says:

The Blue Jays and their fans hate the Yanks too yet they didn’t roll over for the O’s nor will the Rays.
Say what you will about Showalter,Maddon etc but they will never tell their team to roll over. They would make the teams playing against them earn it.

    • Winter says:

Rays still have something to play for (at least for one game).

Showalter last year didn’t have a choice between spoiling the Yankees and the Red Sox. They only played the Red Sox at the end of the season (whereas the Red Sox this year play the O’s and the Yankees)

Props to the Blue Jays for giving both the O’s and the Yankees a fight.

      • Ro says:

Exactly. This is what I said last night. Tonight is perhaps the most important of the 3 games for the Yanks. Mainly for the reason the Rays have massive incentive and motivation to win their game since the A’s are playing late. If the Yanks take this one (with CC pitching nonetheless) and the O’s lose and the Yanks playing against wiffleball Dice-K on Wed, I’ll feel pretty damn good about a tie for the division or winning it.

    • WhittakerWalt says:

False. Showalter had his Rangers give up on the last day of the season in 2006, which affected the Yanks playoff positioning. I think he pulled his starters in the third inning against the Angels.

  6. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

That’s all fine and good but these guys are more like the Pawtucket Sox than the old Boston Red Sox team of the mid 2000s. Look at the lineup they’re running out there against our lineup which is FINALLY at full strength. The lineup is so stacked that Chavy is hitting 9th. You can never go wrong with that.

  7. Ro says:

“They would rather knock the Yankees out of the postseason this year as payback for their collapse last year”

Yeah, well, it’s probably worth pointing out that the Yanks technically have already made the post-season, so if that’s what the Sox fans are thinking, it just adds to their ultimate stupidity. Furthermore, if the Yanks only clinch the WC, its not like there will be high fives going on in the Sox dugout. “We did it!” We did it!” “We did it!” We…did…”oh wait, they’re still going to the playoffs. High five!

Point being, if the Yanks lose the division, it’s the Yanks fault and not “because of the Red Sox.” I refuse to let them take credit for that. Entirely different scenarios compared to their situation last year. Completely different.

Lastly, there is greater incentive to lose these games with the hopes to draft higher, which 5/6 is massively different than 8/9.

  8. Brandon Mauk says:

They’ll be very disappointed. We got our big man tonight against the Laptop Thief, “Phelpsy” tomorrow versus Lester, and the Hiro against Dice-BB

  9. King of Fruitless Hypotheticals says:

    Maggots, moustache and Phelps.

Man this needs to end quickly and well. Frickin sox. It’s always the sox.

  10. Zack says:

If the Yankees don’t win the division,it will not be because of anything Boston does.
It will because of games like the ones in Chicago,Cleveland(Masterton),this past weekend, the game we lost in Fenway on 9/11 where we had bases loaded and did nothing with them.
It will be like games last Tuesday or several other ones where our bullpen couldn’t stop inherited runners from scoring or gave up leads they were charged with protecting. That’s been a key reason we’ve done poorly in one run games compared to the O’s.
We’re still in the playoffs no matter what and after what they did this weekend,I never want to hear any Red Sox writer or fan say what the Yanks did in game 162 was rolling over. There were valid reasons not to use Mo,Robertson etc in that game.

  11. So this is the first time except for that one game in midseptember that we’ve had our full line up since right around the trade deadline right?

  12. Christopher says:

    We’re gonna win.

  13. Will (the other one) says:

Well, in fairness, if things were reversed and the Yankees were just finishing up a miserable season that was universally considered an abject failure, most of us would be pretty fixated on spoiling things for Boston too.

  14. Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

I didn’t see this mentioned elsewhere, but did Valentine or someone else explain why Zach Stewart started yesterday out of nowhere?

  15. Hummingbird S. says:

let’s take care of business tonight

  16. Get Phelps Up says:

    Nice start for CC!

  17. Hummingbird S. says:

    the slider looks unhittable

  18. jjyank says:

Alright. CC looks sharp as hell, and the AAAA Red Sox won’t stand a chance if he keeps that up. I’m feelin’ good.

  19. Cy Pettitte says:

hope that first inning was a good preview of the next 8

  20. BENICIO DEL TORO says:

Lolz on this red sux lineup. 2 strikeouts that inning for CC on 8 pitches

  21. Mike N says:

Good start by CC! I was just getting my dinner on the plate, and by the time I sat back down, he was done!

  22. Captain_Turbo says:

I’m glad the Sox are playing it this way. When we pound them to dust and take the division it will be all the sweeter cuz they tried and failed to play spoiler.

  23. mt says:

If Boston playing well over next 3 days means we lose division and have to be the wild card , I cannot vouch for how Boston fans will feel – I am sure there will be some satisfaction, especially if Yanks were to go on to lose wild card game. Will it offset in any substantial way this train wreck of a season for Red Sox? Given their Yankee obsession, maybe it will.

However, as a Yankee fan, Red Sox will be an afterthought in 3 days – if Yanks lose to this team over next 3 days and have to be the wild card, I will be most angry at Yanks!!! – Yanks should be able to beat this lineup, especially CC tonight (Pedroia is hurt and Ellsbury I guess has been hurt but Valentine is saying he is not playing tonight because of lefty/lefty – ???). Also horror shows like Saturday in Toronto will probably also be remembered (massive RISPFAIL in the face of major defensive and baserunning errors from Toronto where they wre trying to give us the game).

  24. mt says:

  25. RkyMtnYank says:

Huh, so the Yanks and O’s would have to play an extra game to determine the division winner. I don’t like that, they should use another tie-breaker of some form. Maybe runs for versus runs against in the head to dead matchup or something.

    • Winter says:

Winning the division is such a huge disadvantage (you don’t have to play a win-or-go-home game right off the bat) that I can’t think of any tiebreaker stat that would fairly relegate a team to the wildcard game. The only fair way of doing it is a tiebreaker game.

  26. Rocky Road Redemption says:

WOW I hope we win. Pulling out the division this year would be so sweet after what this team has been through.

    • jjyank says:

Absolutely. For all the faults this team has, I will give them a metric shit-ton of credit for winning division considering it all.

  27. Get Phelps Up says:

    D. none of those

  28. BENICIO DEL TORO says:

Man, A-Rod is looking older at the plate every day. Hoping that he can get out of this slump, because he just looks straight up bad

  29. Cy Pettitte says:

0-2 to 3-2 to a leadoff double against Mauro Gomez.

  30. Rocky Road Redemption says:

Is it me or has Ichiro featured a worse arm since he got here than Grandy?

  31. First of all: who is Mauro Gomez, I can’t believe he’s hitting clean up.
Second: I can’t believe CC allowed a double to him.

  32. BENICIO DEL TORO says:

leadoff double to this scrub?? are you kidding me?

  33. Hummingbird S. says:

blind ump, awesome. That was clearly a strike.

  34. curt hennig says:

Their AAA players can double off our “ace”, our “super athlete on absurd bloated contract” fans weakly at a bad pitch from a AAA pitcher, great start guys.

  35. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Why are people so down after one double? The guy hasn’t even scored. And even if he scores it’s 1 run.

  36. Hummingbird S. says:

no outside corner against righties for CC..

  37. Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

I was away for a little so I didn’t get a chance to respond to you, Tom Riddle. Did Valentine or anyone on the Sox actually acknowledge that they wanted to line up Buchholz against the Yanks? It’s one thing to play hard to play the spoiler, but it seems kind of ridiculous to publicly acknowledge that you’re trying to help one team and hurt another.

  38. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

    Dontcha know

  39. Rocky Road Redemption says:

  40. handtius says:

    was that off the glass?

  41. mt says:

We need to do what O’s did yesterday to Red Sox – score runs early and maybe demoralize them. The longer Sox hang in or even lead us the more emboldened Red Sox get.

Many Yankees have great numbers against Clay B so I hope we see it.

    Thank you , Robbie!!

  42. Mike N says:

    OH! HELLZ TO THE YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  43. Cy Pettitte says:

Robbie! holy shit. he is definitely out of that slump.

  44. Get Phelps Up says:

  45. Hummingbird S. says:

  46. Effthisnoise says:

    Ummmm roped

  47. jjyank says:

    Beautiful, Robbie.

  48. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

Watching the Yankees is so much more enjoyable when Robbie is hot.

  49. Captain_Turbo says:

  50. Get Phelps Up says:

I hope that landed in stuart a’s living room.

  51. Wow. That hit off of the black. That’s the first time I think I’ve seen that.

  52. Darren says:

I don’t hear the name Bobby Murcer enough. I miss him.

  53. Hummingbird S. says:

this umpire is awful. CC isn’t getting that call.

  54. MannyGeee says:

wow, that strike zone just got HUGE for Teix. welcome back

  55. captain kiwi says:

    let’s go boysssss

  56. MannyGeee says:

wow, Swisher just said fuck yo change up

  57. CountryClub says:

Granderson batting 7th is pretty sweet. Can deal with the all or nothing result down there.

  58. Cy Pettitte says:

    awww yea Grandyman!!!

  59. Rocky Road Redemption says:

    The Grandyman can!

  60. Mike N says:

    YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PILE ON NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  61. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

  62. curt hennig says:

I’m worried by Swisher’s hitting — 13 of the last 14 games mean his current streak is due to peter out early in the ALDS (assuming they make it there), which means he’s set for bad hitting all throughout the playoffs.

  63. Get Phelps Up says:

  64. Hummingbird S. says:

  65. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

This one could get out of hand quick. LOL Boston!

  66. Captain_Turbo says:

  67. jjyank says:

Awesome start. Now if we can only get the fucking Orioles to start losing.

  68. MannyGeee says:

huge home run. I am so glad todays the day Bucholtz decided to turn back into a pumpkin

  69. your mom says:

    Beeeautiful! No excuses now CC.

  70. Chilango says:

    Keep it going guys

  71. Mike N says:

    HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  72. Get Phelps Up says:

Wow, what a moron Red Sox fan.

  73. Hummingbird S. says:

    RUSS!!! SEEEE YA!!!

  74. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

    Belly to belly

  75. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

Ha! Help from the Red Sox fan. Review time.

  76. FachoinaNYY says:

    a boston fan no less

  77. ProjectNeo says:

by a red sox fan lol

  78. Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

Ha, it was a Sox fan that caused the interference.

  79. Anthony says:

  80. jjyank says:

    Balls. That wasn’t a homer.

  81. Captain_Turbo says:

    Another ka-boom!

  82. RUSSEL!!

  83. captain kiwi says:

  84. FachoinaNYY says:

    Coney knows whats up

  85. Chilango says:

    interference it will be overturned

  86. Get Phelps Up says:

It should be a HR just because a RS fan reached for it.

  87. Hummingbird S. says:

no way to tell either way, you have to keep the call on the field

  88. Effthisnoise says:

Oh NOW we want replay. Eff you

  89. your mom says:

    Suck that Baltimore Arreolas!!!!

  90. MannyGeee says:

ha, they’re gonna review it. even Jery Remy is doing his best NFL Network impression saying he “believes it will be inconclusive”

  91. Mike N says:

That was a fucking Red Sock fan!!!

  92. Darren says:

  93. Tom says:

    Incontrovertible evidence?

Enough to overrule the call on the field?

  94. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

I think it would have hit the very top of the well and bounced back into play. Double. It’s not indisputable visible evidence though.

  95. Rocky Road Redemption says:

WOW, bad call. I’ll take it. :-)

    • FachoinaNYY says:

Actually I think it was correct, I thought so too initially, but the more they showed it the trajectory looked liked it would have skimmed the wall and got out.

  96. Stratman9652 says:

I would let it stand just to watch that guys friends kick the shit out of him.

  97. jjyank says:

Wow, it was a homer. Really close play, even with replay. No complaints here.

  98. Hall and Nokes says:

    Best Sox fan ever.

  99. Chilango says:

  100. Captain_Turbo says:

Still looks like a homer… too close to call anyway.

  101. Hummingbird S. says:

  102. Kramerica Industries says:

    Keep the bloodbath coming.

  103. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

They’re kicking the guy out? Who wouldn’t try to get the ball? Kick everybody out then.

    • MannyGeee says:

really? dick move by the stadium

      • CountryClub says:

I believe it’s an MlB rule. If you interfer with a ball on the field of play, you go. Since it was a HR, they should let him stay. It looked like they were going back to their seats when the YES cameras cut away.

    • Chilango says:

If there’s no interference what are they kicking him out for? Lame move.

    • Mike Axisa says:

It’s an MLB rule. Reach over to touch a ball in play and you’re gone.

      • Get Phelps Up says:

But that ball wasn’t in play…

        • Darren says:

It was in play. The trajectory was altered while it was in fair territory. Clearly interfered with. The umps can still rule that there wasn’t enough evidence to overturn the call. The rule is intended to prevent situations like this.

My argument would be that I was protecting myself and it was unintentional interference.

  104. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

    To close to overturn.

  105. Leg-End says:

You can’t chuck him out for that!

  106. CountryClub says:

The Yankees bottom 3rd tonight is averaging 26 home runs. Awesome.

  107. Rocky Road Redemption says:

Are they serious about kicking this guy out? What bullshit.

    • jjyank says:

      Yeah, if it’s a homer, I don’t see why he’s in trouble.

      • Rocky Road Redemption says:

Even if it wasn’t, that’s STILL bullshit.

        • jjyank says:

I agree, but I get the fan interference thing.

But in this case…if it was a homer on replay, there was no interference. And if there was no interference, what his he getting thrown out for?

    • Anthony says:

So many O’s fans still sore over Jeffrey Maier…. didn’t some newspaper or something award him with free tickets or something? Well, at least Sox fans can’t complain about that…and they SHOULDN’T since one of their own caught it!!

  108. Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

Why aren’t they showing whether the fan ended up getting kicked out after it was called a homer? Part of me wants him to remain because that’s ridiculous for him to get kicked out if it was ruled to be not interference, and part of me thinks it’s hilarious for a Sox fan to cause a Yankees homer AND get kicked out unjustly.

  109. your mom says:

Didn’t even notice our line-up today. It’s the best I’ve seen in a long while. Chavez is the ninth hitter???

  110. mt says:

Martin now has 4 HRs in 12 ABs against Bucholtz.

Last time in Boston pril gave up 5 homers to Yanks the day they celebrated Fenway’s 100th anniversary.

  111. Kramerica Industries says:

Under these circumstances, C.C.’s gotta be able to lock this one down, no?

  112. Darren says:

what a great, natural call by Scooter on #61

Imagine Sterling butchering it? “Roger that one! Into the Terrace!! From Maris!”

  113. jjyank says:

Man I hope this game ends up 20-0. That would be fun.

  114. OMG! Bagels! says:

Pink hats were not in attendance in Fenway.

  115. Mike N says:

Am I delusional, or was Buchholz a CY contender some years back?

  116. OMG! Bagels! says:

    El Capitan

  117. OMG! Bagels! says:

Aceves says I’m with the wrong fraking team.

  118. Kramerica Industries says:

Well, it should be 49 saves for Johnson, but, you know…

  119. MannyGeee says:

In Bobby V’s final act of defiance, he’s gonna leave Bucholtz out there to hang.

  120. OMG! Bagels! says:

    Ichiro. Damn.

  121. Mike N says:

  122. Chilango says:

  123. Karl Krawfid says:

    Pass Gehrig please.

  124. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Here’s a good opportunity for Alex to deliver the knockout blow.

  125. Chilango says:

ARod goes deep I can feel it

    • MannyGeee says:

and if by deep you mean hit the ball, it makes a loud pop, efveryone in the stadium screams and it goes right to the left fielder.

  126. Captain_Turbo says:

Nice of Bucholz to pitch BP today…

  127. mt says:

I know Yanks are doing well but I have to say this – I have never seen a team get so many hits with RISP and NOT score a run – hopefully Arod won’t whiff or DP.

  128. Mike N says:

  129. Cy Pettitte says:

I’ll take an RBI from ARod at this point.

  130. Hummingbird S. says:

wow, no power whatsoever.. he’s done.

  131. forensic says:

    Dear Red Sox,

Thanks for pushing back Buchholz to tonight!

    All Yankees Fans

  132. Well from the crack of the bat on the radio he squared the ball up well…just happened to hit it at some one I guess?

  133. Captain_Turbo says:

    In on the hands.. darn.

  134. Cy Pettitte says:

    Robbie again!!!

  135. Effthisnoise says:

    Wow cano…..lol

  136. OMG! Bagels! says:

  137. Mike N says:

    CANO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  138. Get Phelps Up says:

This inning is all kinds of awesome.

  139. Hummingbird S. says:

  140. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

cano should definitely get a parade now…….

  141. jjyank says:

God I fucking love this game so far. I know the Red Sox are terrible, but it always feels so damn good to beat them.

  142. Hahaha have some RBI’s Robbie!!!!!!!!

I guess stuart a was busy tonight? RBI’s…parades…extensions……..raises…for…EVERYBODY!!!!!!

    • jjyank says:

Don’t worry, he’ll pick a new victim soon enough. First A-Rod, the Cano…you can only pitch about the team’s best hitter for so long.

Who wants to place bets on his next target? My guess is Tex.

  143. Captain_Turbo says:

Robbie is damn scary when he’s hot…

  144. captain kiwi says:

oh hell yes robbie! keep piling it on!

  145. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

    LOL Boston. Let’s go Rays!

  146. Get Phelps Up says:

So…Zach Stewart ended up pitching better than Buchholz!

  147. Leg-End says:

    Well this is fun.

  148. Hall and Nokes says:

I dunno Bobby, I’d let Buchholz try to work through this.

  149. curt hennig says:

So…everyone on the team managed to get on base this inning, except for two players – an injured aging player who hasn’t showed up for the last 30 games, and Mark Teixeira.

  150. CUYanks says:

After winning, of course, my hope is for the Yankees to keep the margin so big that CC can be lifted after an easy 90-100 pitches and be ready in case he needs to go on short rest in a must-win game.

  151. OMG! Bagels! says:

Show us your imbedded Yankeeness Al.

  152. Tom says:

    Aceves, aka Bobby’s best friend.

    100 pitches tonight?

  153. Tom Q says:

So, aside from worryrwarting that CC might go cold waiting out this long inning, there’s not much to feel anxious about here tonight.

  154. Cuso says:

Damn, I actually felt a tiny bit sorry for Buchholz.

  155. OMG! Bagels! says:

Hope CC is still sharp after a 2 hour inning.

  156. captain kiwi says:

i almost feel bad for them. aside from salty and ciriaco, i don’t hate the sox that are on the field.

  157. CountryClub says:

Cano has seen two pitches in two ABs. If he popped both up, most fans would be all over him. It’s a game of inches.

  158. OMG! Bagels! says:

The season’s kinda no fun without the rivalry.

  159. Actual John Sterling quote “Baltimore didn’t play great against Baltimore, in Baltimore, so I guess Baltimore didn’t expect them to win.”

  160. MannyGeee says:

why, hello Ace…. just lob it in, dont worry about pissing Bobby off. his bags are already packed.

  161. Rocky Road Redemption says:

    This is fun.

  162. Joe F says:

7-0. I can watch Dallas without having to switch back and forth anxiously.

  163. Cy Pettitte says:

Teix!!! oh man this is epic.

  164. jjyank says:

  165. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

  166. Mike N says:

    THIS IS FUCKING AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAPPYHAPPYHAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  167. Get Phelps Up says:

    Best inning of the season?

  168. Hummingbird S. says:

  169. Karl Krawfid says:

Now this is what the hell im talking about.

  170. Tom says:

    Good grief….

    Guess the swing is OK.

  171. MannyGeee says:

welcome back Tex… and thank you Ace Man.

I think imma go see how the Rays & Os are holding up.

  172. Tom Q says:

Man, I wish this was the game Phelps or Kuroda was pitching. It’s almost a waste, to pour it on like this when CC looks so good.

  173. your mom says:

LOL. Tex imagining it was Padilla.

  174. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Welcome back, Mark! What a lineup! Finally healthy.

  175. Effthisnoise says:

  176. OMG! Bagels! says:

Okay let’s get this over with.

  177. captain kiwi says:

i just ‘gasmed. SO MUCH FUN

  178. dkidd says:

    no beanballs/brawls/injuries please

  179. your mom says:

Too many runs!!! Now we won’t score the next 2 games.

  180. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

CC’s already gone to bed. Just put in Lowe to finish it up.

  181. OMG! Bagels! says:

Mo closes last game of World Series. Calling it.

  182. Bartolo's Colon says:

Alright, get cc back on the mound, stop the stat padding

  183. The Real Greg says:

    Rays up 1-0

  184. nsalem says:

Thoughts on pulling CC early and when? I have mixed feelings.

  185. Hall and Nokes says:

    Zobrist HR

  186. Effthisnoise says:

    Lets go tampa!

  187. Cuso says:

    Tampa Bay takes 1-0 lead

  188. jjyank says:

Tampa up 1-0…good stuff. Bring it, Alex Cobb.

  189. Hummingbird S. says:

    atta boy Zobrist

  190. Stratman9652 says:

Tex will end the season with 30 HRs, calling it right now. Might end the game with 30 who knows.

  191. BENICIO DEL TORO says:

This is absolutely glorious. How do you guys think Girardi will handle CC the rest of this game?

  192. curt hennig says:

The Yankees hit too many home runs this inning…this does not bode well for the playoffs, since home runs do not count in the playoffs.

  193. Effthisnoise says:

    Damn, swish almost

  194. Mike N says:

    Sterling called it a homer?

  195. OMG! Bagels! says:

    Holy cannoli….

  196. MannyGeee says:

goddammit, straighten that out. that would have been epic

  197. Rocky Road Redemption says:

    Yeah Tampa!

  198. This is just insanity. I don’t want it to end though.

  199. handtius says:

people done complaining for tonight? thought so.

    • MannyGeee says:

I can find something to complain about. like, for instance, I have never seen a 10 run inning (except for in my beer league…) If Swish didnt hook that foul then I would have been all set.

      there. challenge completed.

  200. FachoinaNYY says:

I think we all needed this

  201. Joe F says:

    Classic Yankees Red Sox.

    Rent some cahs?

  202. stuart a says:

enough. no mas… white flag. this is hard to watch..

aceves will not be in the league next year, he has a loose coconut…

    painful to watch…

  203. Bartolo's Colon says:

    granderson sucks

  204. Mike N says:

    That was fantastic!!@!

  205. Joe F, it got a little crazy here, so I’m not sure if you saw this:

  206. jjyank says:

Gotta love it when the offense has more runs scored than hits. That’s good stuff.

  207. Effthisnoise says:

Ive seen shorter rain delays than that inning

  208. curt hennig says:

    Granderson is such a choker…

  209. Captain_Turbo says:

    Grandy’s a slacker.

  210. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

Someone needs to wake CC up from his nap. Wonder how Girardi will handle him. They might need him to go on 3 days rest Friday in the WC game. Hopefully it doesn’t come to that but they have to plan for it just in case.

  211. OMG! Bagels! says:

    Torre still asleep.

  212. Joe F says:

  213. Kramerica Industries says:

    This should be C.C.-proof.

  214. WhittakerWalt says:

Stuart’s going to be taking this one off, I’d imagine.

  215. curt hennig says:

So, Yankees up 9, that means we’ll see Logan in the 7th, Robertson in the 8th and Soriano in the 9th, right? Need to get those guys some work, need to save Lowe/Eppley/Rapada for when we’re behind 1. (Can’t use Robertson or Soriano there, it’s not a save situation.)

  216. Effthisnoise says:

  217. OMG! Bagels! says:

no one at the Trop. fair weather fans.

    • Get Phelps Up says:

There aren’t even people there when they’re winning. They didn’t sellout their playoff games last year.

    • Tom says:

They are not fair weather fans at all.

They don’t show up when the team is winning and they don’t show up when they are losing.

  218. CountryClub says:

I believe Jeter needs 1 more run scored to have the 2nd most 100 run seasons in history. At least thats what a reputable source tweeted the other day. I know people are down on runs as a stat, but still impressive.

  219. Bartolo's Colon says:

god damn, iglesias has got one hell of a glove!

  220. dkidd says:

    michael kay referencing WAR

    /head explodes

  221. CountryClub says:

Yanks should throw nova out there in the 4th. Save CC in case they need him Friday.

  222. Tabbert says:

Michael kay channeling his inner Brian Kenny with all this sabrmetric talk.

  223. OMG! Bagels! says:

    Cabrera should get it.

  224. Effthisnoise says:

    Shut down inning???

  225. Hummingbird S. says:

Ciriaco 0-2. Almost as good as that 9-run inning!

  226. OMG! Bagels! says:

    Where’s Pedey and Ellsbury?

  227. Anthony says:

9-0 and Ciriaco strikes out… I’m crying tears of joy.

  228. Hall and Nokes says:

I don’t even really understand how Cabrera/Trout is even a sabermetrics vs old school issue. It seems like a purely normative debate over whether baserunning and defense matter.

  229. OMG! Bagels! says:

This new thing gives me a freaking headache.

  230. Tabbert says:

Rays making me nervous. Lets score some more runs guys. only 9 outs to go until Rodney is up.

  231. OMG! Bagels! says:

Joe’s Girardi’s binder will be in charge of everything. Oh the charts he’s probably making already.

  232. Captain_Turbo says:

    Nine more runs this inning?

  233. Havok9120 says:

The commentary this inning is out of control.

  234. Typical Yankee offense. Hit some homeruns in an inning and just go to sleep the rest of the game. This team hits far to many homers rabble rabble, rabble RABBLE rabble.

/trolling, am I doing it right?

  235. Anthony says:

Ahaha nice job YES catching the cursing in the Sox dugout.

  236. handtius says:

    oh no! it’s all unravelling!

  237. MannyGeee says:

this Rays/Os game is scaring the shit outta me. need some more offense Tampa. get it together

  238. brian says:

that’s why you don’t pull jeter for nunez…. a boot there and who knows, maybe its 9-4 by the end of the inning

  239. OMG! Bagels! says:

Valentine tried to rag on the Yankees before the season and he screwed everything else.

    Pedey looks disgusted.

  240. OMG! Bagels! says:

    Pedroia looks really pissed.

  241. Cuso says:

Pedroia isn’t even playing and you can still hear his potty-mouth.

Stop with the f-bombs you trashy fuck!

  242. dkidd says:

is paul konerko a hall of famer?

  243. Cuso says:

The Orioles emergency landed here last night. I took a dump in Mark Reynolds’ suitcase

  244. Anthony says:

Cano on is on a tear!

  245. Hummingbird S. says:

Robbie heating up at the right time!

  246. Robbie is back. and absolutely on FIRE right now!

  247. Tabbert says:

Cobb gets out of the Jam. 0-0 going into the bottom of the 6th.

Only 6 more outs until rodney! lets go rays.

  248. Cy Pettitte says:

Cobb and Buchholz have been our best players tonight.

  249. Get Phelps Up says:

Haha Chris Davis takes strike 3 right down the middle.

  250. WhittakerWalt says:

I love this version of Cano.

  251. I know we’re trouncing them, but according to game day the 1-0 pitch in that count (called a ball) was more a strike than the 3-0 pitch (called a strike)

  252. captain kiwi says:

loving the yankees in october so far. here’s to hoping they’re just getting hot at the perfect time.

  253. Tabbert says:

Brett Anderson is expected to be back for the A’s on friday for that Wild card game. Another reason to avoid that play in game.

    • Jersey Joe says:

With Grandy and Ichiro vs. lefties + the DH situation in question…I’m scared! Maybe Nunez at DH? Possibly Andruw Jones?

  254. Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

Hey Tom Riddle (and others), I wanted to finish the conversation above about the Sox starting Zach Stewart.

Did Valentine or anyone on the Sox actually acknowledge that they wanted to line up Buchholz against the Yanks? It’s one thing to play hard to play the spoiler, but it seems kind of ridiculous to publicly acknowledge that you’re trying to help one team and hurt another.

  255. Tom says:

So assuming stays on this pace, about 7 innings and hand it off to Lowe? Garcia?

  256. The Real Greg says:

Oh Matt Wieters ties it up

  257. Tabbert says:

    Orioles tie it at 1…

  258. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Dammit Weiters.

  259. Rocky Road Redemption says:

  260. anon says:

    freakin wieters

  261. Anthony says:

C’mon Rays play like your season depends on it.. because it DOES. Orioles are so irritating.

  262. Hummingbird S. says:

they can’t lose 1-run games. TB needs to score at least 2 more..

  263. Tabbert says:

Cmon tampa… your season is on the line tonight. Put up some damn runs. PLease.

  264. Mike N says:

    CC looking good!

  265. MannyGeee says:

two very important things I just learned while watching NESN:

    1) Apparantly the team (and apparantly Orsillo & Remy) took the train down to NY. this is the first time since the Prohibition Era have heard of a pro team taking a train.

    2) It seems that the train had a food car, and the main attraction on the food car was “fried chicken”….

FRIED CHICKEN!!!!!!!!! too soon? nah, fuck it… Fried Chicken.

P.S.- this entire 1/2 inning has been a discussion about fried chicken and how much Don Orsillo eats.

The 2012 Red Sox, ladies & gentlemen

  266. MannyGeee says:

wow, the Trop is an absolute graveyard.

tell you what, say what you want about the people of Boston (Red Sox fans in particular), but I would bet my house and my dog that Boston could support a SSECOND team better than Tampa supports their 1.

    • jjyank says:

Heh that’s not saying much. Maybe they just need a new stadium? You’d think with how Miami constantly pisses off their fan base, they’d have a real opportunity in Florida.

      • Get Phelps Up says:

I think the Rays need to move to Las Vegas, Portland, San Antonio, etc. It’s pretty telling when they coundn’t even sellout their playoff games last year.

        • jjyank says:

I’d love to see a team in Vegas, personally. They’d have to reconfigure the divisions, though.

          • Get Phelps Up says:

Indians move to the AL East, Rangers or Astros move to AL Central, Rays move to the AL West.

            • jjyank says:

I’d love that. Mostly because my uncle from Ohio is a huge Indians fan and he used to give me so much shit back in the day. I would love the opportunity to destroy the Indians as a division rival.

              • Get Phelps Up says:

It definitely would be nice to play the Indians 18 times instead of the Rays. And family bragging rights are cool too. I have cousins in Minnesota who are big Twins fans…2009 and 2010 were fun.

      • MannyGeee says:

Need a new stadium? the only way those motherfuckers would sell out a game in October (non Red Sox & Yankees, of course…) is if you make that motherfucker 15,000 seats.

  267. Get Phelps Up says:

Rays with 1st and 3rd, nobody out!

  268. Cy Pettitte says:

1st and 3rd no outs for the Rays.

  269. Tabbert says:

men on first and third with no outs for the rays! lets go rays!

  270. The Real Greg says:

Rays have something cooking. 1st and 3rd no out in the seventh.

  271. Captain_Turbo says:

Hey, anyone know if the Rays have anyone on base?

  272. anon says:

    yeeaa rays lead!

  273. Chilango says:

    Rays 2-1

  274. Tabbert says:

  275. jjyank says:

I love how the game thread has become focused on the Rays/O’s game. And no, that’s not sarcastic. I freaking love it. It means the Yankees are kicking ass.

  276. Get Phelps Up says:

    Rays lead 2-1!
Hopefully Peralta and Rodney can finish it.

  277. Cy Pettitte says:

Rays up 2-1, 3 outs to Rodney!

  278. The Real Greg says:

Francisco hits a sac fly. Rays up 2-1

  279. Hummingbird S. says:

    Rays score!

  280. Mike N says:

    2-1 Rays!!!

  281. your mom says:

    Ciriaco 0-3, Yay!

  282. Anthony says:

Uhhh c’mon the closer they get to Rodney the better. Sit these Orioles down!!!!

  283. Cy Pettitte says:

Fuld chops one just over Reynolds head, Rays magic?!

  284. Kramerica Industries says:

    Get some insurance, Rays.

Orioles are a lethal team in these close games.

  285. Get Phelps Up says:

Ruld with the Orioles-like BABIP luck there.

  286. Okay 8 run lead? Pull CC, let Warren go through the line up once, maybe Garcia, just in case we have to play the play-in game…

  287. Hummingbird S. says:

1st and 3rd, one out for TB. Comon good guys!

  288. Ivan says:

Wow, that inning there just screams we quit and we are already planning our vacation by the Sox there….

  289. Kramerica Industries says:

    Tattoo man.

    Good job.

  290. your mom says:

    Fucking Ryan Roberts, you suck.

  291. Hummingbird S. says:

    pop out. damn

  292. Get Phelps Up says:

    4-1 Rays!!!!!!!

  293. Cy Pettitte says:

    Giminez!! 4-1 Rays.

  294. anon says:

    yeeaa rays score again!

  295. Kramerica Industries says:

Chris Gimenez hurting teams not called the Yankees.

  296. Tabbert says:

  297. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

  298. Hall and Nokes says:

  299. Hummingbird S. says:

    In play, run(s)!!!

  300. your mom says:

Thanx for leaving Chen in Buck.

  301. Chilango says:

4-1 Rays but you know that

  302. Tom says:

Ichiro looks locked in… 2nd highest batting average in Sept (behind Mauer) and he’s even hitting into some loud outs.

I was sketpical of the trade, but he’s been a big part of why the Yankees are where they are.

  303. 4-1 Tampa something good just happened there.

  304. Jersey Joe says:

God I wish we could kick ass like this against BoSox when they’re in pennant race.

  305. Stratman9652 says:

Apparently the Rays realize that they owe the Yankees for letting them walk into the postseason last year.

  306. MannyGeee says:

Funny, when they were scanning the crowd (again, up close and from a lower angle to make sure you dont see the 5th row being empty…) i thought I saw my uncle in the crowd. then I remembered its Florida and all senior citizens in Tampa look identical…

  307. your mom says:

If the O’s come back they deserve to win the division. Not! -Borat

  308. Ivan says:

    Lets Go rays

  309. Ivan says:

    Lets Go rays

  310. Ivan says:

    Lets Go rays

  311. Ivan says:

    Lets Go rays

  312. Ivan says:

    Lets Go rays

  313. Ivan says:

    Lets Go rays

  314. Ivan says:

    Yay Rays!!!

  315. Hummingbird S. says:

Hopefully this is CC’s last inning.

  316. anon says:

Don’t understand why CC is coming out to pitch still in this blowout…. why not save him for a potential wild card or division deciding game?

  317. The Real Greg says:

    Lets go Rays

  318. Captain_Turbo says:

I guess we used up all our offense in the second inning.

  319. Ivan says:

oops sorry for the repeated posts, my computer was acting dumb slow

  320. Mike N says:

    YEAH! Go Rays!!!!!!!!!!!

  321. Hummingbird S. says:

I know it’s no big deal but it would’ve been kinda cool if they scored double digit runs

  322. MannyGeee says:

    fuck Pedro Ciriaco Mauro Gomez

  323. Cy Pettitte says:

left field bleachers roll call in the 7th inning is pretty funny

  324. Tabbert says:

4 outs to go. Farnsworth is warming up and not rodney… NOT COOL

  325. Mike N says:

Thankfully Ibanez was not in LF.

  326. MannyGeee says:

    better than your 4OF.

suck it, rest of the league.

  327. CUYanks says:

The real tragedy of the Red Sox getting swept with their worst SP’s on the mound vs the O’s is that the Rays could have had a chance to catch the O’s with a sweep if the Red Sox could have taken just 1 in that series.

  328. Tabbert says:

3 outs to go in tampa.

That Rangers vs A’s game is a win win for us. IF the rangers lose, Yanks will be tied for the best record in the AL, IF the Rangers win, the Rays will be playing another must win game tomorrow. PERFECT.

  329. forensic says:

3 outs to go in Tampa.

In the immortal words of Jim Leyland:

“You can tell Fernando Rodney that if he shoots that (arrow) three times in the next three days, I’ll be his cupid forever,”

  330. Jersey Joe says:

So, what is postseason roster-batters only? –Knock on wood for ALDS–

    14 batters:
    Jeter SS
    Ichiro LF/RF
    Teixeira 1B/DH
    Cano 2B
    Rodriguez 3B/DH
    Swisher RF/1B
    Granderson CF
    Martin C
    Ibanez DH

    Nunez IF/DH
    Gardner OF/Pinch Runner
    Stewart C
    Chavez CI/DH
    ______________ =

I actually think Andruw would make the most sense as far as flexibility and I think with Gardner being limited and Tex needing rest at 1st, Ichiro/Grandy needing PH against tough lefties, etc.

    • forensic says:

No way I see Girardi leaving Jones off the postseason roster.

And Nunez just got a gift with the Nix injury. His season isn’t over yet.

      • Tom says:

        Pinch hit dammit!

        (I’m kidding)

      • anon says:

Girardi would be even crazier than I thought if he carried Jones on the roster. Jones hasn’t shown anything the past few months to even deserve consideration. No longer hits lefties, BA is about .190 or so

        • forensic says:

His stats will mean nothing to Girardi in this case. He’ll say he’s been swinging better since he hit that one homer weeks ago and he’s a veteran who’s been on the roster all year.

Almost 0% chance he’s not on the roster.

    • Get Phelps Up says:

      That’s only 13, and I’d add McGehee.

  331. Tom says:

Tex looks pretty good for his first game back.

Would like to see Girardi pull him next inning – he won’t get any more AB’s and I’m not sure he needs the defensive reps.

  332. MannyGeee says:

Since this game is pretty much over, I suppose I can leave you with this ancecdotal story, while off topic I feel is if I should share. during one of the early Yanks/Sox series:

Don Orsillo on TV: “Bruce Springstein will be at Fenway Park this year on August 15th, and…”

My kid: “Wow, Bruse Springstein… on my birthday!”

    Me: “Yeah, pretty cool huh…”

kid: “Yeah. So wait, what is Bruce Springstein do? Is he like a ball player or a wrestler or something?”

Me: “NO, he’s a rock star *continuing to geek out for like 5 minutes about Bruce to my kid”

kid: “ohhh…” 30 seconds later “I wonder what else is happening my birthday…”

  333. anon says:

    5-1 rays now

  334. Chilango says:

    Rays tacked one on

  335. CUYanks says:

If the scores hold up, I will be rooting pretty heavily for an A’s loss tonight so the Rays can enter tomorrow in must-win territory again.

  336. Anthony says:

Miggy is leading the majors in HRs now.

  337. Effthisnoise says:

Dear baltimore this it what it feels like when teams actually try against you. Get use to it from now on

  338. Anthony says:

The O’s are not looking good right now. I like this.

  339. anon says:

why the EFF is CC still pitching?!?!?

  340. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    • Anthony says:

I’m wondering the same thing. Maybe Joe will yank him at 100? Even with Phelps on a short leash tomorrow I feel this is a too much.

  341. Hummingbird S. says:

there’s absolutely no need for CC to pitch here.

  342. The Real Greg says:

And now we have found something to complain about. Way to go guys.

  343. Mike N says:

Interesting that CC is in. I guess they don’t want to mess with his regular rhythms or whatever.

  344. Tom says:

Good job by Girardi getting Tex out with no more AB’s coming.

Not sure why CC is still out there, but not a huge deal.

  345. The Real Greg says:

They had Garcia warming up in the bottom of the seventh. My guess is that CC talked Girardi into it.

  346. Hummingbird S. says:

Is Iglesias the worst hitter in the majors? he sure looks like it

    • Tom says:

He had a ~.600 OPS in AAA over 2 years.

The scouting report on the bat was… “well he’s a potential elite defender” or in Gammons speak “he has a lot of bat speed and potential”

  347. Cy Pettitte says:

holy shit get Farnsworth out of there.

  348. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    Fucking Farnsworth.
    Get Rodney in.

  349. Get Phelps Up says:

The trop is such a piece of shit.

  350. Tabbert says:

wow… 5-3 now. Damn Farnsworth. PLease bring in rodeny

  351. The Real Greg says:

Oh Kyle Farnsworth’s at it again. 2 run homer by Davis. 5-3 Rays

  352. Hummingbird S. says:

Farnsworth still trying to fuck the Yankees.

  353. captain kiwi says:

jesus, get farnsworth outta there joe.

  354. Kramerica Industries says:

    Only at the Trop.

  355. The Real Greg says:

If the Rays blow this, Maddon’s going to get some heat for not starting the inning with Rodney.

  356. Anthony says:

wowwwwwww (very ironic we are all still antsy even while we’re winning haha)

  357. Mike N says:

    FARNSWORTH!?!?!?!? Fuck.

  358. Hummingbird S. says:

Gardner with a bat! He’ll hit!

  359. jjyank says:

So, Gardner’s gonna hit? Interesting. I can’t say I was expecting that.

  360. anon says:

Tying run to the plate for the Os…no outs

  361. Kramerica Industries says:

Now the tying run at the plate for Baltimore.

  362. The Real Greg says:

And now the tying run comes to the plate in Tampa as Jones gets on

  363. Cy Pettitte says:

    helmet off = Nunie safe

  364. CountryClub says:

It’s a little weak that the yanks didn’t tack on more runs. Mostly because Boston trotted out bad pitcher after bad pitcher.

  365. captain kiwi says:

haha, nunez losing the helmet! beautiful

  366. anon says:

Now 1st and 2nd no outs

  367. Cuso says:

Oh my God. Rodney is a double-agent.

  368. Kramerica Industries says:

Never easy to beat the Orioles. This is absolutely ridiculous.

  369. forensic says:

Wow, Nunez, Gardner, and then Mesa on deck.

If only you could steal 1st base…

  370. Hummingbird S. says:

Rodney trying to blow the game over there. Great.

  371. Cy Pettitte says:

are the Rays fucking serious right now….

  372. jay says:

  373. Nice Scheister of Doom says:

    Damn Rays, bullshit!

  374. your mom says:

    Frickin O’s, unreal bullshit.

  375. Anthony says:

This is getting slowly out of hand………

  376. Get Phelps Up says:

    1 out for the Orioles…finally.

  377. The Real Greg says:

    Thome strikes out. 1 away

  378. anon says:

  380. Cy Pettitte says:

  381. rconn23 says:

Thome about to make it 6-5. Unreal.

  382. Kramerica Industries says:

    And now Mark Reynolds.

No three run shots here. Those aren’t the Yankees on the diamond.

  383. Tom says:

    Melky Mesa – congrats dude!

  384. Mike N says:

    WOOO! Melky Mesa!!!

  385. rconn23 says:

    Or not. Come on Rodney.

  386. Robinson Tilapia says:

    Oh, hi everyone.

  387. pistol pete says:

I don’t understand Girardi pitching CC 8 innings after 2 stints on the dl and who knows what is looming in the playoffs. Does anyone think this Red Sox team is coming back from 7 down. How about 6 innings and done for CC instead of 8, ridiculous.

    • jjyank says:

His pitch count was fine. If they pulled him after 6, he would have only had like ~70 pitches (I’m ball parking here). That’s overkill.

      • anon says:

might need him on fri on 3 days rest and this game was over early, game was not close and we could’ve saved CC’s pitch count for a potential do-or-die game Friday

        • pistol pete says:

Agree, Girardi is short sighted, CC will pitch on 3 days Fridat if there’s a game and he burned him 8 innings and 103 pitches tonight, ridiculous.

          • YanksFanInBeantown says:

Burned him 8 innings and 103 pitches?

Huh? Girardi just let him get his work in and saved the beleaguered bullpen. This game wasn’t any more stressful for CC than a bullpen session would have been after that 2nd inning.

            • anon says:

no one is saying we should’ve used Drob, Joba, Logan, or Sori, all of whom are overworked.

With the big league we had, we could’ve easily used the likes of Garcia (who actually came in the 9th), Eppley, Aarsdma, Warren, etc. None of these guys will pitch in a close game anyway, so tonight was a perfect opportunity.

  388. Cy Pettitte says:

Chavez saying touch the bag….oh man that’s epic.

  389. jjyank says:

Haha who heard Chavez there? “TOUCH THE BAG!”

    Congrats, Melky Mesa.

  390. captain kiwi says:

dammit. rodney ruining all the good feelings from this game.

  411. forensic says:

  412. your mom says:

  417. Captain_Turbo says:

Sweaty Freddy gets the save! lol…

  418. captain kiwi says:

first place, oh so nice. repeat this tomorrow yeah?

  419. forensic says:

Very good night. Yankees put it away early and the O’s lose too.

Seems like that would be a nice thing to do tomorrow too…

  420. JLC776 says:

Rarely do I like to indulge in fantasy, but now that we just won and our magic number is 2, I’m beginning to think of all of the missed opportunities. The blown call in Baltimore and two horribly lost games against Toronto (the Soriano BS a few weeks ago and the fiasco on Saturday) are at the top right now. I know we stole plenty of wins as well, but… damn… I sure would rather be popping an extra beer right now rather than worrying over tomorrow and Wednesday.

  421. anon says:

Joe G on the post game press conference said (in his usual short-sighted manner) that he had no plans to pull CC and save him for Friday’s potential game because he is “worried about today and not tomorrow”….smh

    • forensic says:

He still only threw 103 low intensity pitches. It’s not like it was 120 or a tense game. He’s also already had a month of rest this season.

Sure, you could pull him an inning earlier, but I don’t think it’s nearly as big a deal as you’re making it out to be.

      • jjyank says:

Agreed 100%. CC has started on 3 days rest under worse circumstances. As far as today’s game, maybe resting bullpen pieces is just as important as saving CC ~10 pitches. This is semantics, as far as I’m concerned.

      • anon says:

The game was blown wide open and we may need CC to go deep in the playoffs. Why have him throw 103 when we only needed him for ~80?

        • anon says:

Plus we MAY have a friday do-or-die game. I’d rather have him be as rested as possible pitching on 3 days rest than having to recover from a “full” outing of 100+ pitches.

    • JLC776 says:

What’s wrong with having a fresh bullpen for tomorrow – you know, another must-win game?

      • anon says:

We were up 8 with 9 outs to go and 7 with 6 outs. We have Garcia, Eppley, Warren, Aardsma in the pen who aren’t “core” guys and will not pitch in a close game anyway. If you can’t use those guys up 7-8 runs with 2+ innings left, when can you?

        • YanksFanInBeantown says:

Why not let CC get his work in?

        • JLC776 says:

Stranger things have happened in baseball. Could you imagine the shit storm if he pulled CC and suddenly a save situation formed an inning later?

You always take the win that’s in front of you at this point in the season. We bitch enough when Girardi plays revolving-door bullpen, we can’t also bitch when he doesn’t.

          • anon says:

We were up 7 with 6 outs to go. We could’ve used Garcia for those 6 outs, or Garcia for 3 and a combination of Eppley/Aarsdma/Warren for the other 3.

If those 3 guys (not including Garcia) can’t get 3-6 outs without giving up less than 6 runs, they don’t deserve to be on the roster.

To counter your point, can you imagine the shitstorm if we have to play on Friday and lose because CC is ineffective, not having fully recovered from throwing 100+ pitches tonight when it was unnecessary?

  422. pistol pete says:

Rodney stopped Orioles 9th inning rally, 1 up 2 to go.
