New York Yankees, 2012 AL East Champs

By

The Yankees are whooping the Red Sox, but they’ve already clinched the AL East title because the Rays beat the Orioles down in St. Pete. It’s their second straight division title, third in the last four years, and 12th in the last 15 years. Things looked a little grim for a few weeks after blowing the ten-game lead, but the division is officially in the bag and a new season starts when the playoffs open this weekend.

Awesome, the team has really dialed it up a notch when they needed to and this makes me happier about out post season chances.

    Big bucket of win.

For all the talk about RISP fail and how this superstar underperformed or that starting pitcher sucked and what a disaster it was they blew a ten game lead, this team NEVER let first place slip away completely. Everyone was all over Baltimore for how great they were, and they deserve lots of credit for a wonderful regular season, but the New York Yankees never gave in, never relented, and maintained their control until the very end. Like champions.

Here’s to a great post-season and hopefully #28 in the Bronx when it’s all said and done! :)

  5. Jersey Joe says:

for a team that had so many injuries, I think Girardi deserves manager of the year.

    • Laz says:

No, Look at what the A’s and O’s have done this year with much less talent. The Yankees have a phenomenal amount of talent compared to the other teams in the league, Joe didn’t really show enough going above and beyond to get that.

    • Deep Thoughts says:

I’m just scratching my head, trying to figure out how he did it without calling up Ronnie Mustelier.

  7. Manimal says:

So we play the winner of the A’s and O’s in the wild card series right?

  8. Tom Q says:

The Yankees were challenged hard, but, unlike the Rangers, they bent but never broke. Never lost first place, and now hold it on the only day that matters.

  9. forensic says:

    Congrats Yanks!

Gonna be rough with no Yanks games the next three days. Rest up and then hopefully right back in the groove on Sunday.

  10. Jack says:

I just poured a bottle of champale over myself and my roommates. They were not amused.

  11. Get Phelps Up says:

How long do the Yankees have to finalize their ALDS roster?

    • forensic says:

Probably a few hours before first pitch. Certainly Saturday would be the earliest as they have to know who wins the WC game first.

  12. Dave the Ox says:

Will someone explain to my dim-witted self why the Yankees have home-field advantage and start on the road???

  13. goterpsgo says:

Thank you for not backing into the playoffs!!! I remember back in ’10 when they seem so wilted and then got dismantled by TEX – they had zero punch that year.

I think they got their mojo back in the nick of time. Now go win #28!!!!!

    New magic number: 11.

  14. I Collect Brett Gardner Cards says:

sweat it out! freddy closes it out!

  15. Joe says:

What’s the projected rotation for the ALDS?

  16. Laz says:

For all of our complaining nothing really changed from the playoff situation of last year. The O’s and Rangers both tied for the wildcard and thus have to have a playoff for it.

  17. Joe F says:

Awesome experience! Got to see the clincher! They ran out of shirts, but I’ll just go to Modells tomorrow to cement the memory.

    LETS GET 28!

  18. Christopher says:

What a classic season. Cashman needs to take a bow for that bullpen and bench, not to forget Kuroda. Girardi needs to take a bow for all the bait and switcheroo due to on-going and frequent injuries. Hello, we lose Mo and win division? The team needs to take a bow for a crappy middle third of a season, followed a real gut check span of games in the relentless O heat. Go Yankees.

  19. Eddard reboot v.1.0 says:

No shocker to me. I called this division over months ago and it came through. AL East Champs, HFA, and now they have their rotation lineup up for the postseason.
