Update: Ivan Nova leaves game with pain in his elbow

By

10:41pm: The MRI results are not back yet, Joe Girardi said after the game. Nova complained of stiffness after the second inning, up closer to his triceps rather than his elbow. He lobbied to stay in the game though, which seems kinda silly.

8:32pm: Nova left the game with pain in his pitching elbow, the team announced. He is heading for an MRI.

7:56pm: Ivan Nova left tonight’s start against the Blue Jays for an unknown reason in the third inning. The last batter he faced hit a hard-hit ground ball single back up the middle, but it didn’t appear as though the ball hit Nova. The trainer came out and left immediately, without throwing any warm-up pitches or anything. Stay tuned for updates.

At this rate they’re going to have to start forfeiting games.

  2. I’m thinking it was something to do with the growth on his face.

  3. Jon says:

Looked like a standard case of suckitus to me

  4. Roadgeek Adam says:

Hope this isn’t a precursor to TJS.

  5. MartinRanger says:

    Bring on Nuno and Romine!

And hope really hard that the whole ‘rookie outperforming expectations’ thing can happen to the Yankees for once.

  6. Joe R says:

MRI on his elbow. Ruh roh.

  7. Joe says:

Nova’s injury is unfortunate, but it is a blessing. He is a mess. Pitch phelps in nova’s spot and bring up nuno , Adams , and musty when he is ready. Can’t wait for Francisco to get the boot. Nova may find success in the nl somewhere

  8. Stratman9652 says:

You’ve been predicting elbow trouble is causing Nova’s issues since last spring, Mike. Wonder if it has been lingering and just finally let go.

    • Havok9120 says:

That would be incredibly odd. Who has elbow trouble for a year and a half of MLB pitching before something gives way?

  9. cuponoodles says:

    When it rains, it pours.

    • CountryClub says:

This one is a little easier to take. You never want to see anyone get hurt, but he was pitching himself out of a job anyway.

  10. Jeff says:

He hasn’t been the same since his elbow injury during the 2011 playoffs. Could just be a coincidence or maybe something’s just not right in that elbow.

  11. Pseudoyanks says:

Let’s just start counting who we have left.

  12. Bo Knows says:

That might explain the control issues

  13. Bo Knows says:

Wow, first time I come on this site and I’m greeted with two more serious injuries…..

I got to count this off

    Jeter
    Grandy
    Teix
    Arod

    now Cervelli, and Nova

And with Youk out temporarily that means there are only three starters and one of them is an old old old Ichiro in decline. Fudge this man, this flat out sucks
