The streaky 2015 Yankees are hot again, having won five straight and nine of their last 12 games overall. They swept the Royals a week and a half ago, swept the Mariners a few days ago, and today they have a chance to sweep the Angels. Those are three teams many people expected to contend coming into the season. The Yankees? Many counted them out.

Michael Pineda is not on the mound this afternoon. Instead, it’ll be CC Sabathia, who is starting on normal rest thanks to Thursday’s off-day. The Yankees are skipping Pineda’s start this weekend to control his workload. Regardless of who is on the mound, let’s hope the offense keeps up what they’ve been doing. They scored eight runs in each of the first two games of this series, the first time they’ve scored 8+ runs in consecutive games since September 2013, when they did it in three straight games. (They lost all three games!) Here is the Angels’ lineup and here is the Yankees’ lineup:

  1. CF Brett Gardner
  2. 3B Chase Headley
  3. DH Alex Rodriguez
  4. 1B Mark Teixeira
  5. RF Carlos Beltran
  6. LF Chris Young
  7. 2B Jose Pirela
  8. C John Ryan Murphy
  9. SS Didi Gregorius
    LHP CC Sabathia

It’s a very lovely day in New York. Nice and sunny, not too hot … pretty much a perfect afternoon for baseball. This afternoon’s series finale will begin at 1:05pm ET, and you can watch live on YES. Enjoy the game.

Injury Updates: Jacoby Ellsbury (knee) continues to run sprints and stuff like that. He’s increasing the intensity a little each day … Gregorio Petit (hand) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Monday.

  • Hank51

Petit and Ryan are both now on rehab assignments. Somehow I get the feeling cash and Gerardi can’t wait to mix and match those 2 with Steven drew on a daily basis.

    • MB923

      Vomit

    • cxz

I wonder what Ryan’s bat speed actually is. It has to be among the lowest in the league

  • dkidd

sweep the smug from scioscia’s mug

  • blake

I would have been happy with two of 3 here but now you gotta get greddy.

Hopefully CC pitches wel early and they can get a lead and then Joe needs to be ready with the quick hook for CC…..at the first sign of the wheels wobbling get him out of there if they are past the 5th inning

  • MB923

Random comment but, I don’t know if anyone knows this, but when Michael Kay and his crew first appear on the air, that is Not Live. It’s pre-recorded about 20+ minutes earlier. As of now, they are still trying to find out what to say at the end LOL

Team is Kay, Singleton and Cone. Singleton talks about Yankees 1st inning runs, and how good McCann (2 HR) and Gardner were yesterday. Cone talks about how great Trout is.

    • blake

trout is basically a young Mantle that doesn’t switch hit and doesnt abuse his body…..injury can always strike but it’s gonna be fun to see how his career unfolds if it doesn’t

  • YankeeFan™

I’m here in Yankee Stadium what a beautiful day Lets Go Yankees ????????

    • MB923

      Enjoy

      • YankeeFan™

        Thanks ????

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Hopefully you aren’t the jinx! Have a great day!

      • Sam Palazzo

        There’s always a jinx…

      • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

        He totally jinxed it

      • YankeeFan™

        Thx bro

    • Bertin Lefkovic

Sorry that the perfect game didn’t work out for you.

  • BearNJ

While JR Murphy would get the Sunday day start after a night game it almost seems like he is Sabathia’s personal catcher. Those two always seem to be battery mates.

    • YankeesJunkie

May be, if you are going to have a back up catcher it makes both the pitcher and catcher more comfortable working with the same guy.

      • MB923

Yep, it’s why the Cubs wanted David Ross very badly for Lester.

  • YankeesAreGod

    Yankees Give:

    Ellsbury, Severino, Judge, Warren

    Angels Give:

    Trout

Yankees need to get this done. This guy was born to be a Yankee. Love Ellsbury but Trout is better. Come on Cash, get it done!

    • YankeesJunkie

      Bait harder!

      • YankeesAreGod

Are you trying to tell me that you need to masterbate harder?

        • Some Asshole

          Who doesn’t?

    • Sam Palazzo

      Still not enough

      • YankeesAreGod

You think the Angels need to sweeten the pot a bit?

        • Hank51

No your proposal is great. I think the Angels would be happy to send the Yankees the best player on the planet for that bag of goodies. Maybe we can substitute judge for kyle roller though

    • Some Asshole

      Angels hang up.

      • Mike Ehrmantrout

While hysterically laughing, they’d also demand the Yankees take on Hamiltions money and half of Pujols deal (but not actually get him)…then maybe.

      • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

        Lol ur dumb

    • Rob Doney

Why would the Angels trade for a slowing down center fielder, two unproven prospects and a young pitcher that is fighitng for his life to stay in the rotation? And why would they trade their face of the franchise to get those players? Absurd.

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

      lol

    • Hank51

The Angels wouldnt trade trout for anyone. Nobody wants to be on the hook for the ellsbury overpay. But severino, judge, and warren might begin a conversation about Hamels.

    • Bertin Lefkovic

The more compelling proposal for the Angels would be Gardner, Tex, Judge, Sanchez, Severino, and Warren for Pujols and Trout. They probably still say no, but I think that they would have to consider it and counteroffer, asking for Clarkin and Jagielo as well. What would the Yankees say to that?

  • Sam Palazzo

That’s crazy that the Yankees lost all three of those games where they scored 8+ runs, is was against the world champions but still.

    • Some Asshole

The 2013 Yankees, no less, champion of the 2-1 game. Granted, by then, they had upgraded with Alfonso Soriano and Alex Rodriguez returned, but still. That was a fucked up series.

  • Sam Palazzo

If a team was willing to trade for A-Rod in almost a straight salary dump, do the Yankees do it? A-Rod is easily the second most productive player in our lineup.

    • Rob Doney

Yes, they do. But what would they get in return?

      • Sam Palazzo

A straight salary dump, think the trade the RedSox did a few years ago

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

      I bet they do, but I wouldn’t.

    • Bertin Lefkovic

I think that they would have to, primarily, because they have no idea if the 2015 A-Rod is going to be the 2016 and 2017 A-Rod as well. For example, if the Mariners offered Jesus Montero for A-Rod, I wouldn’t assume that the Yankees would say no to that. Even considering how well A-Rod has played this season, I think that it would be a tough offer to reject. Another interesting one would be A-Rod and Refsnyder for Cano and Montero.

      • Sam Palazzo

A-Rod back in Seattle would be fun

        • Bertin Lefkovic

During the preseason, not having a clue as to what A-Rod was going to do this year, I suggested offering him to the Mariners plus the $60MM that he was still owed for the next three years for Montero, enabling Montero to come back to NY and get his career back on track and A-Rod to finish his career where it started.

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

Wow, outside of 2-3 spot, this line-up the Angels are rolling with kinda sucks. I’m sure they’ll hang a crooked number on CC though, like a 2 spot through six would be nice.

    • Sam Palazzo

      That’s Carsten Charles to you.

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

What’s there about 12 people in the stands behind home plate?

    • Captain Clutch

Yep. That is what happens when each ticket is $1m.

  • The Other Matt

Anybody realize that CC switched to a black glove?

    • Frittoman626

      RACIST!!!

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

THAS A STRIKE UMP! OPEN YO EYES! HELLEN KELLER COULD CALL THAT RIGHT!

    • Sam Palazzo

      Of course it costed us

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Man, fuck that, that was a strikeout

  • Captain Clutch

Here we go with CC stinking up the joint

    • Gregory Eckes

I don’t expect them to win this game

  • The Other Matt

Mike Trout very well might end up being the greatest player of my lifetime.

  • cxz

Welp, I was excited about how he looked for a whole batter and a half. I guess if anybody is going to do that, I’d rather it be Trout.

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

      IT WAS A STRIKEOUT DAMNIT

      • Austinmac

        No, it wasn’t.

  • YankeeFan™

    Dammit back to back

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

    oh CC

  • Captain Clutch

It is absolutely amazing how often CC misses his spots.

  • Sam Palazzo

God damn it, good thing I have work soon.

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

    One big inning™

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

Mike Trout is a baseball god among mortal men.

  • RetroRob

    That’s unpleasant.

I would not throw back any HR ball from Trout or Pujols.

  • Jeff Karstens, Male Model

Lol. Where are the CC apologists from last night?

    • WhittakerWalt

      6 innings, 2 runs, 7 Ks.

  • cxz

Someone text CC and tell him to pitch away from those 2 batters. They’re literally the only guys he needs to worry about

  • Captain Clutch

Too bad they can’t take CC out of the rotation when Nova comes back. He is just plain awful.

    • Gregory Eckes

Yes they can. They won’t but they can

      • Captain Clutch

        Everyone knows that they won’t.

        • Gregory Eckes

But to say they can’t is wrong.

    • Sam Palazzo

You don’t pay a relief pitcher 24 mill a year.

      • Need Pitching & Hitting

You also try not to pay awful starters 24 mill a year.
It’s a sunk cost either way.

That said, he’s not going to the pen anytime soon.

        • Sam Palazzo

He wasn’t an awful pitcher when they gave him this contract, that’s the way it goes with long-term deals.

          • Need Pitching & Hitting

He is now is the point. It’s already a sunk cost. It would be in their best interests to limit the damage.

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

Nice of CC to give the Angels extra BP today

  • Gregory Eckes

It’s amazing that this guy has been unable to figure out how to pitch with soft stuff

    • Need Pitching & Hitting

      It’s not at all amazing.

      • Gregory Eckes

We saw Jered Weaver two night ago be able to do it. We’ve seen pitchers like Moyer and Mussina do it.

        • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

We kind of crushed Weaver, remember?

          • Gregory Eckes

That night, but look at his history,

        • Sam Palazzo

Weaver gave up 7 ER that game lol

          • Gregory Eckes

            Again, look at his history

        • Need Pitching & Hitting

Sure. A couple of pitchers have done it, so it’s amazing that all power pitchers can’t do it???????

          lol

    • r.l

Yeah. I would have figured it out weeks ago. CC is a bum.

    • Beauee

It’s not just that. His secondary stuff isn’t as good as it used to be as well. He just doesn’t seem to command the ball like he used to and his slider doesn’t quite have the bite it used to.

  • Mandy Stankiewicz

Man, I missed the last few games and this is the one I get :

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Right now it’s been a terrible series for my viewing pleasures. Had to deal with that 9th inning comeback which completely ruined the fun of that game and I missed yesterday’s game and now this.

      • Mandy Stankiewicz

CC could settle down now. Hopefully.

  • The Other Matt

Where is Matt Tracy when you need him ?

  • Austinmac

Few can do that. Long day ahead.

  • Too Many Idiots

This isn’t CC. It’s Esmil doing a Venditte.

  • Veteran presents

CC should just do all of us a favor and retire.

    • Carl Fisher

      Seconded!

  • Sam Palazzo

Our bats haven’t even come up yet, relax.

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

The ummm short porch in ummm left field…CC should walk all right handed hitters.

  • cxz

The CC hate is amusing. It’s not like he’s going anywhere, what’s the point of crying about it every time he’s out? It’s only the first inning people, damn

    • Carl Fisher

I would rather have Mitchell and all his adventures with actual stuff than this washed up guy!

      • cxz

That’s great, but it isn’t happening. So complaining is a waste of effort

      • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

I bet you Mitchell would suck

        • r.l

Yes – but the commentariat would be patient and forgiving, since he is young and we need the youngs.

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

I understand complaining about losing right now, but complaining about how he should just adjust or how he should go to the bullpen or be released is dumb cause it ain’t happening.

    • Veteran presents

      We can all hope.

    • Beauee

Because it’s a baseball blog. It’s a forum to talk about what’s happening in the game, and CC is pitching in the current game.

      • cxz

True, but to say stuff like “needs to go to the bullpen!!” and “awful, just awful, retire already” ect ect. is just really wasted effort,it’s falling on deaf ears

        • Beauee

Depends on what you view to be a “wasted effort.” If the effort is to get Brian Cashman or CC to actually change their behavior…you’re right. It’s a wasted effort because it’s not going to happen. However, if the effort is merely to express disappointment, frustration, vent, etc. then I don’t see how it is wasted. I think it is the latter rather than the former.

          • cxz

I suppose you have a point. It’s fine to vent, it just seems redundant for it to happen every outing for the guy, it just makes a bad situation more annoying. It’s also the fact that it’s just first inning. But vent on!

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

    Thought that was gone phew

  • Frittoman626

Can someone tell me why they are giving Pineda so many days off? I know he’s been injury prone in his career and more rest is better, but doesn’t it make more sense to have 2 straight starts of 5 days rest than a 7 day rest, and back to 4 again?

    • Gregory Eckes

He hasn’t pitched many innings due to injuries. This is to avoid tiring him out later in the year.

    • BearNJ

Its because everyone loses their minds in ML baseball about innings and pitch counts. They think they can manage it and refuse to accept throwing a baseball isn’t a natural act. There are so many pitches in a starters arm and while they can be protected it can’t be managed. Its why we have pitchers breaking down so often. They don’t throw enough.

  • Captain Clutch

Righties are hitting .348 against CC this year.

    • Mike Ehrmantrout

Righties are hitting .348 against CC this year.

      Repeated for emphasis.

      • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Righties are hitting .348 against CC this year.

        Repeated again for emphasis.

  • vwnut13

Jesus, I go take a shit after the strikeout , come back and its already 2-0. wtf.

    • Beauee

      CC’d

    • 518forever

Back to back and a belly to belly

    • Sam Palazzo

Back to back jacks Trout and Pujols.

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

I still think Trout should’ve been out

    • Austinmac

The replay showed it off the plate.

      • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

I still think Trout should’ve been out

  • Gregory Eckes

That’s actually not bad if that’s the one bad inning

    • Jeff Karstens, Male Model

There’s a nice glass half full view!

  • NH Yankee fan

CC just absolutely stinks.. He’s the sore spot in the rotation without question and they have him for years.. Ugh!!!

  • Captain Clutch

They are lucky that he just missed that pitch. CC has to start locating otherwise it will be a short day for him.

  • goose

CC is a ticking timebomb this game.

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

      He hasn’t exploded yet?

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

It’s okay guys, only a 3-pointer away from the lead! 2 points down isn’t all that bad, we’ve got LaRod after all.

    • r.l

Weren’t you listening last night? Depending on 3-pointers is bad for the playoffs, you need to manufacture points.

      • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

What do you suggest? Pass from one guy to the next and sacrifice his chance at a shot so another guy can be put in a good position to shoot instead?

  • Mandy Stankiewicz

CJ really wanted to be a Yankee…

  • Frittoman626

Anyone remember when the last time the Yankees swept the Angels was? I’ve seen them sweep everyone in the AL but the Angels sometime in the last 5 seasons.

  • Jacob Lindgreddarden

Yeah, I just didn’t think there’d be any chance we’d win this game with CC on the mound. I wonder if his ERA gets over 6 if people will finally start talking about putting him in the pen and not Warren.

Offense better score another 8 runs or the winning streak will end here. Momentum only takes you as far as the next day’s CC Sabathia start.

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

      fuck off eddard

  • Captain Clutch

Maybe they can convince CC to retire after this year. Yeah right!

  • Gregory Eckes

At the end of the day, the majority opinion was to pay CC the 24 million because they needed him at the time.

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

We all expected decline, but not a jump off a cliff.

      • Gregory Eckes

Exactly. Can’t blame management for that

  • YankeesAreGod

I told you guys we should have traded for Trout

    • Pkyankfan69

Wow, great plan.. Maybe we can scoop Giancarlo and Harvey off the waiver wire also

      • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Don’t have the 40-man spots for all 3. We’d have to pass on one. Can’t lose Gas Can Rogers just to grab an extra one of those guys considering his stuff is off the charts.

      • Mike Ehrmantrout

        *Approve all trades *
        ON

        There we go, it’s done.

  • Austinmac

When you have spent a career relying on your stuff, it isn’t easy to all of a sudden have the command required for a soft tossed. Plus, his CU does not have much speed differential and he throws many rolling breaking balls.

We are at the one-third point and CC has lost seven games.

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

4-6 MPH difference between fastball and change I think, that’s not very good is it?

      • Austinmac

No, 8-10 is what you want. Less can work if it has a lot of movement. CC’s does not.

        • BearNJ

He’s still learning how to do it.

  • Dalek Jeter

It’s 2-0 and you guys haven’t actually pulled CC off the mound and brought him to the glue factory?

AND THE YANKEES HAVEN’T?! GIRARDI CLEARLY DOESN’T CARE ABOUT WINNING!

    • Beauee

      I’d say it’s about 50/50.

  • NH Yankee fan

Per Erik Boland, CC is 0-6 with a 9.42 era at the Stadium this year.

    • Captain Clutch

It doesn’t matter what stadium he is in…he still sucks.

      • Gregory Eckes

Did you agree with the contract at the time and if not what was your alternative?

        • Need Pitching & Hitting

Really not relevant to his current situation.

          • Gregory Eckes

No, but nevertheless it is a question.

        • Beauee

I was in favor of the original contract but not the extension. I thought they should have signed Yu Darvish instead.

          • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

            Too many homers

          • Gregory Eckes

Interesting, although Darvish has struggled recently with health

        • Captain Clutch

The contract was ok at the time but it’s obvious to everyone that he is a shell of what he used to be. Those things happen when you give players 7 year deals.

    • Carl Fisher

      So an automatic clunker

  • dkidd

one bad inning dispatched with early!

    • Sam Palazzo

And really not that bad with the way the bats have been lately

  • Yanks48

Maybe Girardi will go to a 6 man rotation if Nova does well back

    • Sam Palazzo

Less starts for Tanaka/Pineda is not ideal

      • Yanks48

They are already trying to limit Pineda and no one here is confident Tanaka can last a full season yet

      • Bertin Lefkovic

Less starts for them is ideal. I think that the reason that they didn’t do it when Tanaka returned was because Capuano had been so bad, but if Nova looks good in his rehab starts and Warren continues to pitch well, they will try it through the trading deadline, when they will shock the world by packaging both Nova and Warren with Sanchez, Severino, Bird, and Mateo for Cole Hamels.

    • Violet

already said no there are 24 million plus reasons why c.c. is here to stay

  • Carl Fisher

CJ Wilson is such a tool!

  • Violet

not truly surprised I thought the big righties would give c.c. problems at least no one was on when trout hit his HR

  • Mandy Stankiewicz

    Chase’n the streak!

    • Sam Palazzo

1/7th of the way to Dimaggio!

    • Dalek Jeter

      49 away.

      • Mandy Stankiewicz

        lol

  • Pkyankfan69

Well that first inning sucked but at least both were solo HR… Offense has been hot lately, maybe we can win a slugfest

    • Dalek Jeter

Was one of them to Trout?

      • Sam Palazzo

Back to back, Trout and Pujols

        • Dalek Jeter

Don’t get me wrong, CC hasn’t been good, but are people REALLY ready to take him out behind the woodshed for giving up homers to the best player in baseball and the 3rd best RHB I’ve ever seen?

          • Sam Palazzo

            BUT IT’S AH BASEBA BLOGGG

      • Pkyankfan69

        Yup

      • Beauee

        Trout, Pujols.

      • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Can’t complain about a Trout HR, even Tanaka would struggle.

        • Beauee

Giving up homers to Trout is like getting a nine dollar beer at a game: it’s just part of the baseball experience.

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

The Esmil countdown…T minus THREE innings until The Assmeal is upon us.

  • Carl Fisher

    Yeah Chase with the blooper!

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

    Man fuck that

  • Sam Palazzo

    whomp whomp

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

    CHASE HEADLEY LOW BASEBALL IQ!!!

    • Mandy Stankiewicz

LET HIM WERKIT OUTT IN TRIPPEL AH!

      • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

BUT HE BLOCKIN’ THE KIDZ!!! WHATS ABOUT CAMEL AND REFSNOODLES?

  • Gregory Eckes

CC’s decline reminds me of Steve Carlton’s fall off a cliff late in his career.

  • yanksgoyanks

Man that Wilson/Cervelli trade is looking horrible for us, he’s hitting .331.

    • Gregory Eckes

No. Both teams won that trade so far

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

I’m fine not having Cervelli play every 5 days for us.

    • HoopDreams

      Eh, hes a decent buc.

    • Sam Palazzo

That’s the last trade people need to be worried about if we won or not.

      • yanksgoyanks

True, but I didn’t expect him to be hitting that well.

    • cxz

If you think that he’s going to hit at that rate all year, you’re fooling yourself. Wilson has been an excellent pickup, and Cervi would never be playing for us. He wasn’t going to bring much more than he did due to largely playing backup here and the suspension in his history. It was a fine trade for both sides

    • Beauee

We had too many catchers. He was the obvious one to get rid of. He was an oft injured BUC. I’m not sure what you could have gotten besides a relief pitcher.

      • yanksgoyanks

Yeah I like JRM too, but i wuldn’t mind if we sent him over cervelli. Cervellis good

        • cxz

We wouldn’t have got the same return for Murphy

          • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Maybe he does and maybe more actually.

            • cxz

I don’t think so, he didn’t have the playing time to really give him tangible value. Cervelli had mild success in a BU role over a decent time span, that’s the only reason we got as much as a power arm for him. Murphy was relatively un-established

              • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

True, but he’s young and considered a good game caller and defender, I think he easily fetches Justin Wilson.

        • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

It’s a backup catcher, who cares.

    • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Of all the trades the Yankees made this winter, that’s the one you complain about?

      • yanksgoyanks

I don’t think he keeps it up, but is there a chance he does?

        • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Nothing in his history suggests he will. He was hitting .253 three weeks ago.

    • Captain Clutch

The yankees needed to make that trade. I wasn’t a fan of his defense at all and I think he was hurting them more than helping.

  • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Low baseball IQ.

  • YankeesAreGod

    Trout + CJ Wilson

    For

    Ellsbury + CC + Judge + Severino + A few more B prospects

    • Dalek Jeter

      The Bertin is spreading.

      • Beauee

This is far worse than Bertin.

        • HoopDreams

Someone the other day was going ham with the Phillies, he wanted to trade Lindgren and I think Judge for Galvis and Papelbon.

          • Beauee

I saw that. That was pretty bad. But Ells, CC, Judge, Severino for Trout? Far worse, if you ask me. No concept of surplus value.

            • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Bertin started off really ridiculous and slowly became better. Still pretty bad though.

              • Beauee

The thing I love about Bertin is that his trade proposals usually involve teams trading half their teams away.

              • Bertin Lefkovic

                Thank you, I guess.

                • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

                  Haha, improvement is always good!

                  • Bertin Lefkovic

True. Just looking for some good conversation. I can give as well as I take.

        • Bertin Lefkovic

          Thank you, Beauee.

    • Sam Palazzo

Stop trying to make fetch happen.

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

I’ll bite. You do know that no package can be made worth it to trade Trout, right?

      • YankeesAreGod

        Should I add Jagielo?

      • Dalek Jeter

It’s a catch 22, any package good enough to get Trout is gonna cripple your team for years and you won’t be able to take advantage of having Trout. (Unless it’s The Show, then it costs you Ellsbury, Judge, and Jags.)

        • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

I wish the people at MLB the Show actually gave a shit about their game. Fuck them so hard

          • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great game, but franchise blows because you can’t make legit trades. All I can do and enjoy is play every game out, all 162, using the Yankees current roster.

            • Mike Ehrmantrout

I didn’t buy this years but I made the roster the same. Assuming you played last years too, is it worth it to buy the new one?

            • Dalek Jeter

“You can’t make legit trades.” You’re just jealous you don’t have an outfield of Ellsbury, Trout, and Harper (I traded Gardner for Ellsbury back).

            • Beauee

Just turn off auto trades and only make trades that are within the realm of possibility. That’s what I do.

        • Mandy Stankiewicz

IRL: Gallo, Bryant, Baez, Bundy, Judge, a rocket ship, and one wish where you immediately wish for unlimited genie wishes prob does it.

      • Bertin Lefkovic

How about this? Gardner, Tex, Judge, Sanchez, Severino, Jagielo, Clarkin, and Warren for Pujols and Trout? I wouldn’t do this, mind you, but I think that it is as close to fair value as you can get. It would be the baseball equivalent of the Herschel Walker trade.

        • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

They’d never do that and I’d do that in a heartbeat.

          • Bertin Lefkovic

No fear about taking back Pujols for however many years he has left?

            • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

I’d advocate for paying Trout 40m a year so I’m good.

              • Bertin Lefkovic

OK, so you’re not coming from a position of any credibility. Even in this bloated marketplace, a 1.000 OPS and stellar centerfield defense is not worth more than $30MM/year.

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

So this is what it looks like if a LOOGY starts a game? I want to walk Trout and Pujols for the rest of this game. Trout with his 185 K’s last year chases the high heat and CC serves up a low hanger right in his wheel house.

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Trout hits the high pitch good now.

    • Beauee

It’s old CC vs. Trout. Trout is going to bomb him.

    • WhittakerWalt

      CC doesn’t have high heat.

  • Violet

c.c. in oakland would be good for him with the large space, Yanks would have to do something like Hamilton to the Rangers and pay it all, c.c. would have his homecoming to the bay, but no way Hal does what Arte did, all games are important in a mediocore al east, and the yanks have already been let down by c.c. in a bunch of them

    • Gregory Eckes

      Hal is not a GM.

    • Bertin Lefkovic

Any chance that Beane would trade Kazmir for CC plus the cash to pay his contract?

      • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

        Bertin pls

        • Bertin Lefkovic

What prospects are Beane going to get for Kazmir? If CC doesn’t cost anything, he could be a starter, a long man, or the next Dennis Eckersley. Seems fair to me.

  • Sam Palazzo

      • Mike Ehrmantrout

I’ve never seen that commercial until today, I still want it. iPhone be damned.

  • TC1

Is anyone else not getting the audio from the booth?

    • Dalek Jeter

Consider yourself lucky. Kay’s spreading the Teixeira/Trout narrative.

      • TC1

Fantastic. It’s oddly relaxing watching like this.

        • speedyjohn

Did you watch the White Sox/O’s fan-less game?

          • TC1

No. I am getting all the game sounds, just nothing from the booth.

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

    No, fuck off Kay

  • Dalek Jeter

    OH HERE WE GO.

  • Mandy Stankiewicz

    SHUT UP KAY!

    • RetroRob

Let’s see if he tells the complete story.

      • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

“SIGNING TEIXEIRA MADE THE YANKEES LOSE TROUT. THE END.”

        • RetroRob

To their credit, they did give more than the standard line.

        • TC1

Has anybody dropped the ol’ fallacy of the pre-determined outcome on him yet?

      • Dalek Jeter

He actually mentioned the back to back picks!

And hey, good for Kenny, actually explaining why they took Trout second.

        • speedyjohn

Draft pool manipulation was only part of it. They also wanted to give the guy who scouted Trout a little scare :)

Who says FOs don’t have any fun?

          • RetroRob

They also strongly suspected the Yankees wanted Trout. I suppose they may have wanted to screw around with the Yankees for one pick. Doubt it, though.

          • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Is that true about the scare part?

  • Sam Palazzo

Here we go with the Trout/Tex comparison. zzzz

  • Mandy Stankiewicz

    UGH SHUT THE F-UP.

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Do most switch hitters keep the same stance and movements from both sides or do most do different ones? I know Teix does it differently left and right, but I think Headley does it the same from both sides.

  • cxz

Such a beaten to death story, holy hell.

  • speedyjohn

Okay, at least Kay isn’t spreading Teixeira/Trout misinformation. He acknowledged that the Angels were getting Trout anyway.

  • HoopDreams

If only the Yankees didn’t sign Jacoby Ellsbury. Then we would’ve had Clayton Kershaw and Matt Harvey.

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

This makes as much sense as the whole Trout/Teix thing.

  • cxz

    Coney:the voice of reason

  • Sam Palazzo

  • Violet

the trout should be one did the other teams pass on him before he fell to the Angels in the 1st round – how about asking that question michael and driving those fanbases nuts

  • Gregory Eckes

This matchup was not optimal from the start. Be happy they took 2 of 3 and let’s move on.
Unfortunately, it appears that the other AL East teams are starting to win too.

    • Dalek Jeter

2 runs against Wilson? I’m not ready to put this in the right hand column yet.

      • Gregory Eckes

Wilson’s been good recently against the Yankees. If CC can hold them down, they will have a chance, but I don’t trust that will happen

        • Dalek Jeter

bloop and a blast puts the game even, and this team can hit the ball out of the park with anybody.

    • whileaway

      2nd inning ?

  • Frittoman626

The Yankees would have never gotten Trout. If they didn’t sign Tex, the pick goes to the Brewers, and if they didn’t sign CC or Tex the pick goes to Toronto for signing Burnett. Even had the Yankees kept the pick, the Angels most likely would have still picked Trout since they had the pick before. The Yankees won a World Series after signing all those players, so that takes away the sting from possibly getting Trout. Now all the other teams that passed on Trout is another story…

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Exactly, I’ll take the World Series over Trout. Yes, I seriously would. Even with Trout the Angels will struggle to win a ring.

      • Gregory Eckes

Honestly I would too, but they are really paying for that title.

      • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

This. The rotation kind of stinks aside of Richards (and we’re not sure what happened last night). There offense is based on 2 bats (1 if Pujols isn’t healthy).

  • Captain Clutch

Enough with the Trout and Tex crap. The Angels had the 24th and 25th picks. If they only had one pick they would have taken him with the 24th pick. End of story, move on.

My feed is a bit behind, I was commenting on the great play and the throw that pulled Teix off the bag.

        • Gregory Eckes

But even that would have been a tough play anyway. It was ruled a base hit also.
          Headley’s play sucked

          • Mike Ehrmantrout

Yeah it was an awful throw, but Didi has that out if the throw is on line and it could have gone either way.

Now if only we didn’t sign Tex we’d have another bad baserunning play there to complain about.

  • yanksgoyanks

Trout is an idiot for that.

    • BearNJ

Now I’m glad we signed Tex & didn’t get the chance not to draft him.

  • RetroRob

Error by the Angels helps Yankees recover. That was more on Trout than the runner at 3rd, although the guy from 3rd has to be aware.

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

      Agreed

    • Dalek Jeter

Definitely more on Trout…but people get on players for not running out grounders to first..YOU SHOULD NEVER TROT HOME, SPRINT HARD ALL THE WAY IT’S A RUN!

      • Barzini

Trout is just trying to take an extra base there, and it was a close play. I don’t see what’s so horrible about that. THe fact that Aybar didn’t score before the tag should emabrass him.

        • RetroRob

I understand why Trout was attempting it, although short RF at Yankee Stadium, and one thing Beltran still has is a decent arm. If you’re going to attempt it you have to make it. Aybar should have been running harder. How does he not know the runner is trying to advance? It’s not uncommon. The Yankees lost a run too this year when the runner from 3rd didn’t make it home. Slightly different play.

So basically two errors by the Yankees created the situation. Two running “errors” by the Angels erased it.

          • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Luckily we won and it didn’t matter

          • Barzini

I don’t think it’s a “you have to make it” type of play. That’s a valuable base to get with 2 outs and the bottom portion of the lineup coming up. But I think we agree that it’s Aybar who deserves the idiot label there.

            • RetroRob

              Yes.

          • Need Pitching & Hitting

            Drew, iirc

          • BearNJ

I’m not sure where Ryan is physically anymore. I just don’t see any value in Ryan other than he’s under contract another year.

      • Need Pitching & Hitting

That’s still to be determined for Pirela

        • Sam Palazzo

I can say in full confidence that Pirela is a better MLB hitter than Ryan

          • Need Pitching & Hitting

Trout with a noodle arm and no baseball IQ, how is he the best player in baseball again?

  • Captain Clutch

Keeping noddle bat Ryan on the roster over Pirela is absolutely ridiculous.

  • Mandy Stankiewicz

DAH UPPERCUT SWING!!!! SEND HIM TO TEH TRIPPLE AH!!!

  • Gregory Eckes

    Well done

  • cxz

Didi doin’ his job one AB at a time

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

DiDi low baseball IQ hitting groundball instead of homerun

    • Mandy Stankiewicz

Ha! With one man on, a smarter player would have hit a grand slam.

  • Dalek Jeter

Good job there by Murphy and Didi as the 8-9 guys.

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

loopy swing don’t help yankees there, didi bad job

  • http://jdbilingualsafety.blog.com/ ChristIsKing

Didi reminds me of Willie Mays Hayes.. They should make him do push ups at the plate every time he puts the ball in the air

    • Dalek Jeter

Haha, he’s not that fast, but yeah, anything loopier than a line drive, PUSH UPS.

    • http://riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

He’s not fast enough to be a slap hitter.

      • BearNJ

Mickey Rivers was our real life Willie Mays Hayes.

        • Sam Palazzo

          Mick the quick baby

    • Carl Fisher

I can just see the manager from that movie! Great reference

  • HoopDreams

Adam Warrens GPA was lower than his ERA, so I wonder what Didis GPA in school was compared to his batting average, or whatever that nonsense was about.

    • BearNJ

Didi isn’t stupid. He can speak four languages and hit in none of them.

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Luckily Didi is a smart guy, but when it comes to baseball, his GPA is equivalent to a 1.7.

  • speedyjohn

Down by one run in the third? We might as well give this game up as lost now.

    • Sam Palazzo

With CC on the mound I’m still nervous, but calling the game over after the top of the first was nonsense.

There’s reasons why we fail to take some people on this site seriously.

I take Eddard as seriously as I take Wally Matthews.

            • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

My favorite Eddard moment was on a fan confidence poll one time he did one of his “Dad and I have a 37 this week” gimmick and he said “Please don’t parody me” or whatever because we always do our own saying “My dog and I are at a 1494794038 this week” and stuff.

    • Carl Fisher

      Ye of little faith.

      • speedyjohn

Oh, that was 100% sarcasm. It’s stupid how easily some “fans” give up on games.

  • Mandy Stankiewicz

    Allright, we’re on the board.

  • Dalek Jeter

Gardner does not pick up that slider well.

  • HoopDreams

So who started the whole Didi has low baseball IQ thing? I know Pete spawned the ‘it’s in his head’ meme.

    • Mandy Stankiewicz

The same guy who started the “Tex has no heart” meme

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Bonds went to ASU that makes sense. Dumb and arrogant!

  • Mike Ehrmantrout

If 2015 Carlos Beltran actually catches the ball and then throws you out at second, there’s no coming back from that.

    • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

The issue is that 2015 Carlos Beltran cannot move well, but as discussed earlier, his arm is still excellent.

      • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

So much potential… But so many burritos…

        • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

See, I played RF and I’m the opposite. I can move, but I have no arm strength except from 60 1/2 feet.

          • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

            Low baseball IQ?

            • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

No, I don’t workout except my legs. I have no upper arm strength.

              • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Like you run a lot? Or you go to the gym just to do legs?

                • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

Bicycle. My knees are built. I don’t go to a gym, very unsavory element.

                  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

That’s cool, I hate the fact that I hate running.

    • YankeesJunkie

Yeah, just retire from baseball at that point.

  • terry

The entire “Yankees were after Trout” is a myth, and everybody in the MLB knows it.

It’s basically damage-control PR to maintain their fanbase in the tri-state area; the truth is that the Yankees were never interested in Trout – and truthfully, that was in part because Trout was never interested in the Yankees. The Yankees were always reputed to have an awful farm system and developmental program. Also, Trout didn’t play to the Yankees’ targeted demographic at the time.

Bottom line: Even if the Yankees had drafted Trout, Trout would never have signed with them, just like Gerrit Cole. If Trout had signed with them, he would have simply been a trade piece for the Yankees to bury in the Minor League system while they signed a Big-Name like Curtis Granderson to a long-term deal. As history stands, the only difference is that Slade Heathcott took Trout’s place, and he was more than happy to sign with the Yankees as he was not nearly as highly thought, and therefor had enough motivation to sign. In short, Heathcott was a reach as a first rounder – but the Yankees have to reach given their reputation.

Times have changed, but the Yankees have not.

If another Trout appears in the Draft, it’s all but certain that the Yankees will not sign him – because the parents of said High School player will be warned away by every agent about what the Yankees represent…”Your child will be buried until the Yankees can use him as a trade chip to acquire an “exotic” and high-profile player with representative diversity in fanbase appeal.

Trout was not – and still is not – that.

He is simply one of the best players in Baseball.

      • Dalek Jeter

Yes. The Hamilton situation…going to edit now.

    • Mandy Stankiewicz

Absolutely, and I hope Hamilton’s leg heals and he TEARS it up in Texas.

      • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

        Had an incredible start

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

How long can a retired guy stay Union rep?

      • Dalek Jeter

Isn’t the current union head former Yankee, Tony Clark?

        • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

          Yeah

      • ropeadope1

        Until death (possibly longer).

      • RetroRob

  • HoopDreams

  • Carl Fisher

The Angels were so stupid with Hamilton. I hope he wins the MVP again. It is not like he is the only player to struggle with these issues. He came clean with his issues and they completely attack him. This is just gross. Strawberry had these issues and the Yankees were far more supportive from what I remember. Addiction is such a struggle for so many people. I am sure if he were hitting the way he was in Texas they would have been far more supportive.

    • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

Not going to happen. He’s out of his prime.

      • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Had an incredible start, always possible.

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Arte Moreno decided that money was more important than a person’s health. For that, fuck him.

    • speedyjohn

No one’s denying that this is a disease, but Hamilton actively burned bridges with a lot of his support network a couple years ago. That’s on him. And maybe he came clean because it was the right thing to do… or maybe because he knew they couldn’t suspend him if he admitted his relapse before he failed a test (which he has to take every few days… he’d have been caught anyway).

      • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

I doubt he’d admit his problem if his idea was that he wouldn’t get suspended. What would be the point?

        • speedyjohn

Under the JDA, they can suspend him if he fails a test. By admitting his relapse before he could be tested, he avoided suspension.

    • Off the Wall

You’re right re: the Yankees support of Strawberry. He was also struggling with a relapse of his colon cancer; that may have been the “trigger” for the continuance of his cocaine/alcoholic addictions.

George Steinbrenner kept him on his roster in an administrative capacity while he went through his rehab. I believe he was hired to be a minor league scout for the NYY.

    • Barzini

Man, that was Cano’s MVP. Still peev’d about that. And 06 with Jeter.

Ok, Dan Bellino, that’s not a strike.

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

That’s a rough call especially with that absolutely hideous pitch frame. Good god that pitch frame is terrible.

    • JimK

framing should be irrelevant; it’s where the pitches crosses the plate, not where the catcher catches it that supposedly demonstrates a K

      • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

I agree, but if it’s going to come into play, at least give it to frames that are good, not terrible.

    • speedyjohn

I think it was something like “if he [the catcher] has to bring it up, you know it’s down.” Not 100% sure about the first part, but pretty sure it ended with “you know it’s down.”

Trying to figure out how to calculate the dollar value of WAR. If it would be reasonable to spend $250MM on a 100-win team, what would the payroll be for a replacement team. $50MM? If so, then would I be correct in saying that 1 WAR is worth $2MM? What has Mike Trout’s WAR been to date? What could it be projected to be over the next 15 years?

    • YankeesJunkie

In FA market it is about 6-7 million per win. A replacement team would theoretically cost 13 million.

    • GPU

      $12.5M for a replacement team.

  • Dalek Jeter

I think CC knew that was his last inning anyway (or at least had an idea) and decided to give the shit ump a piece of his mind while he had a chance.

  • IVoted4Kodos

  • CanoHeDidnt

Good, CC was out anyways. That was fun.

  • vwnut13

Yep, don’t have to worry about Girardi leaving CC in too long now.

    • BearNJ

That’s the way I view it.

    • speedyjohn

Also don’t need to worry about CC leaving Girardi in too long now.

      ?

  • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

Did CC bump him a little bit when he first ran over? (I was gonna say bump him with his chest, but I think it was his stomach because of his height and… width.)

    • Adam

I don’t think so, at least not from the umpires reaction.

  • Veteran presents

CC knew Girardi would’ve left him in too long, so he removed himself from the game. What a team player.

  • MG2015

After the 2 HRs and the double in the 1st inning CC pitched really great today

  • CashmanNinja

That was a pretty good job by CC actually. He wasn’t going to go back out there next inning and he let the umpire know just how he felt. The ump wasn’t calling the same strike for both teams. I love how CC said “fuck you” to the ump. Love that. CC may not be the same pitcher, but at least he CARES about pitching bad or good. He still wants to be a good pitcher and not just go out there and get his money and go home.

    • cxz

You saw the fire in him, and that’s not something that always translates. Great job by CC all around today, both pitching and showing he cares so strongly.

    • Some Asshole

And I hope to get to the kind of shape Girardi is in to just say “fuck this fence” and hop over. To dish out punishment, of course.

      • Beauee

If only I could get those throat veins looking like fucking pipes…

I’ve never seen an ejection after an inning ending double play

    • CashmanNinja

Especially considering how quickly the ump gave CC the hook. Usually an ump will let a player chirp a bit before calling him out, but that was literally “Oh, you don’t like my strikezone? Hit the showers”.

Betances is going to be worn out by July.

    • Beauee

      He is getting Proctor’d

      • Bo Knows

Except Betances was a starter until 2 years ago, his arm was trained to handle innings he’s a marathon runner racing in the 100 meter dash.

        • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Not to get technical, but I don’t think that’s actually an advantage since Marathon runners don’t train to run at crazy speeds like the 100 meter dash guys.

          • Bo Knows

Dude… really? Really?…. The point of the comment was to say that the stamina is there, to do more. If you want me to get technical than this….

A marathon runner trains in order to handle long distances, if they ran a 100 meter dash, they in all likelyhood would be able to run multiple races in a day. Now note I did not say anything about winning because that is not relevant to the discussion. A sprinter only knows how to work on a short outing. They burn everything in those 12 seconds. Being a starter by training is a similar thing, like the runner he’s trained to be able pace himself to be completely capable of going for hours at time

    • Gregory Eckes

Betances threw 90 innings last year. He’s thrown 31 innings so far including today

      • RetroRob

Same pace. People are way too concerned about never bringing Betances in and saving him for the mythical exact right game.

  • Bo Knows

Pretty sure strike one was the exact same pitch as ball 1

Bringing in Betances is soooooooo stupid

Haven’t been around baseball much, have you?

        • Gregory Eckes

Again, with no tangible evidence of a relay of commands, you have no case

          • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

As RAB’s lawyer, Gregory is correct in this case.

          • Need Pitching & Hitting

I do have common sense, though.

    • RetroRob

      Tomorrow’s an off day.

Betances says he pitches better with more reps. I think they want him to get back on a good track.

      • Bo Knows

Also Betances was a starter, so he’ll be able to handle the workload, especially if he keeps getting regular work to keep his arm stretched out

        • Gregory Eckes

That’s true too. And that’s always been to his advantage. He was a starter so his arm should be solid

  • Frittoman626

So is Giavotella what we can expect from Ref whenever he can comes up?

  • Preston

Mason Williams 3/4 with a double so far today, now hitting .324/.395/.446 at AAA.

    • Some Asshole

      Trade him for Esmil!!

    • Barzini

Loving all the xbh’s since he got called

      • Preston

Yup, it definitely helps convince me that he’s actually improved and is driving the ball rather than just having better luck on GBs.

        • Barzini

It is weird though. He was hitting for no power in Trenton, he moves up a level and all of a sudden he’s hitting all these doubles and triples. Could be a weather thing…

          • Preston

I think he’s trying a more patient approach. I read some comments Marcus Thames made about him last year that basically said he was a victim of his abilities. He has elite contact ability and can literally put the bat on anything. But that’s why he hits so many weak grounders. Early at AA he was taking way more walks, hopefully waiting for better pitches, and thus was making much better contact. The power at AAA could be a combination of him getting more comfortable with the new approach and more advanced pitchers who are still willing to challenge him in the zone in hitters counts (which is why his walks are down and power is up).

    • HoopDreams

He was a nice prospect just a couple years ago, top 100. Maybe he’s finally getting it. We already know about his defense.

    • Bo Knows

If only he didn’t spend the previous two years with his head shoved firmly up his own ass he might be playing OF for the Yankees instead of Beltran, or maybe even Jacoby (or at least been traded in a package for something good)

  • Pkyankfan69

Gas Can Rogers gets the 9th!

Sucks for you, Stephen Drew texts you?

      • MG2015

his wife sat in front of me at a game last year in St Pete, if his BA gets above .200 he will dump Boras and sign with me

        • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Woah, a whole 2.6k coming your way!

  • Some Asshole

I will renounce Nakamura’s fandon unless Esmil is pitching immediately!

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

      rut roh

      • Some Asshole

Sorry, buddy. I hear another team is taking over, though, so you might be able to catch on with them.

        • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

          Are they orange?

          • Some Asshole

            They are!

  • Carl Fisher

    Miller time

    • Some Asshole

Just like the beer, opposing hitters are watered down when it’s Miller Time.

  • oldmanalex

Never seen CC that pissed. What was he mad about? Probably did us a favor from throwing the “one bad inning”

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

      He was done anyway

    • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

      Dan Bellino’s inconsistent strike zone.

    • Barzini

I think he was probably angry about the incompetent working behind the plate.

    • Some Asshole

He just found out baseball games are nine innings, and not six.

    • RetroRob

I think it started in the very first inning when he had Trout struck out, but the umpire didn’t call it. Then Trout hit the HR. Lots of missed and inconsistent calls through the game on both sides.

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

No screentime for El Trueno? For shame YES, for shame.

  • Carl Fisher

    Miller’s gonna cut you down

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

    40 K’s in 25 IP, lol

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

      Miller: 14.4 K/9
Betances: 15.13 K/9 (2 K’s today, so that will increase)

      • JacobyWanKenobi

        2*

        • JacobyWanKenobi

Unless he came back out and I missed it while making lunch

          • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

You are correct and I’m sad that you are.

  • OldYanksFan

Three years ago, I though of Gardner as Ellsbury Lite.
Now I think of Ellsbury as Gardner Lite.

    • Sam Palazzo

Ells is still better than Garydy

      • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

        Let’s be happy with both

      • OldYanksFan

I think Gardner will out-OPS Ellsbury.
They are similar in fielding, but Gritner has the better arm.
But of course, Ells is the better base stealer.
        They are indeed, pretty close.

  • OldYanksFan

He’s no Ace, but CC is beginning to figure it out.

    • cxz

If more days were like today, which I think it’s very possible they can be if he works the corners as such, you can’t complain a whole lot.

  • Carl Fisher

Miller is like a modern day sparky lyle

  • Sam Palazzo

The dreaded two-run first inning going the other way today.

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

      Perhaps the curse is over?

    • BearNJ

I’m so glad I didn’t follow the advice to turn my set off and give up.

  • speedyjohn

    Andrew Fucking Miller

  • Violet

Nick Cafardo mentioned Clippard and Grilli as possible RHP trade targets if they go that way

    • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

Clippard: Yes. Grilli? Meh to no.

    • Frittoman626

Yes to Clippard. Grilling would most likely be Capenter 2.0. Just sign MFIKY

  • Sam Palazzo

    97… ho hum

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

    His slider is beautiful

    • Joy Illimited

      It gliiiiides

  • RetroRob

I was annoyed there’s no game tomorrow, then I remembered we have the draft. We get to unwrap our presents.

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

How much time in between picks?

      • YankeesJunkie

        Five minutes

        • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

All in a row like the NFL?

          • Some Asshole

Fun fact: After the first pick, they let the 216th pick pick second.

    • Sam Palazzo

      Whitley and Betts!!

      • Violet

        that would be great!!

      • JacobyWanKenobi

We need a Betts too or else we can’t keep up with Boston and Cashman will have failed

        • Sam Palazzo

Lol, Mookie already has one foot in the HOF with his .240 BA

    • Some Asshole

      But they’re not veteran presents.

    • Joy Illimited

This always sneaks up on me. I’m always aware that there’s a draft approaching but am always somehow surprised when it actually happens.

  • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

Refsnyder just went deep at ROC.

    • cxz

      Man has he needed that.

    • Violet

      good for refs

  • MG2015

It’s almost unfair having Betances and Miller both out there for the Yankees….. not

  • Some Asshole

That’s right Cone. It’s where you finish that counts. Said by every high school male, ever.

  • Some Asshole

IS THIS THE LAST PITCH OF THE GAME!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

      Take your betts!

      • HoopDreams

        Mookie?

        • Sam Palazzo

          Chris

        • Some Asshole

MOOKIE BETTS! HE’S BETT-ER THAN YOU!!!

      • speedyjohn

        Yes please.

  • Asher Dratel

I will admit that I was livid when the Yankees didn’t resign Robertson, but man it looks like the right move now, especially if they draft well…

    • https://youtu.be/alYXF7a9N3U Memory Bread

      Oppenheimer got this

    • Game 3

How is Robertson doing this year? I honestly have no idea. Pretty darn good as usual?

  • https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek/ Roadgeek Adam

Ballgame as Austin Romine goes deep against ROC.

    • JacobyWanKenobi

Romine has been tearing it up. First time he’s had regular ABs in a long time

      • RetroRob

I remember when they televised the Tanaka game, the Scranton announcers mentioned that Romine was crushing the ball all season, but they hadn’t been falling in. Looks like they have been lately.

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Wow, straight nasty outing by Miller. Wooow.

  • Sam Palazzo

Letsgoooooooo fun when this team is hot.

  • cxz

6 in a row! Beautiful sweep.

  • GPU

    Well this game was fun.

  • Mustang

    I’m happy

  • HoopDreams
  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

    What a quick game, it’s 3:30

    • Some Asshole

      No, it’s not. It’s 2:30.

      • GPU

        12:30!

  • YankeesJunkie

Yanks going to make it any team to come back in the division.

    • Game 3

      wut?

  • OldYanksFan

3 HRs… and none by ARod, Teix, McCann or Beltran. That’s pretty cool.

  • YankeesJunkie

Chapman threw a change and it was just not even fair.

  • Some Asshole
  • YankeeFan™

What A great game to come to really loved it after a rough start for cc

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Spread the news Yankees win…… Gardener????

    • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

      If nobody gets it:

  • HoopDreams

If the Yankees draft Chris Betts tomorrow Peter Gammons will spin it into some conspiracy that they are trying to catch lightning in a bottle and hope he obtains Mookies talents.

  • Preston

Miller with the Strike Em Outs!

  • Tony Wilson

Sweep!!!! The boys are hot, hopefully they keep it up. Great start from the pitcher formally known as CC Sabathia, I’m shocked he pitched well since he’s supposedly washed up.

    • Mustang

Yea, and the season was over 2 weeks ago!!!!
      LOL
It’s going to be like this all season lets just hope that their downs aren’t too down and that they end on a up swing.

      • Tony Wilson

So many that post here would have you believe he’s the worst pitcher ever, that’s about as ridiculous as them saying the season was over with 120+ games to go. I guess you’re right, that’s the way it is here lol. They are playing good ball right now and hopefully it keeps up, I felt at the start of the season that barring injuries they would win the division and I still feel so.

        • Mustang

Yea, remember when some people were saying that he the same as Carpuano!
          Please!!!
          I’m thinking 12 over .500 wins the division 87-75

          • Tony Wilson

CC was instrumental in helping win the last Yankee championship and should get more respect than he does from some Yankee fans. Look at his stats from this year and he has 3 bad starts all year, against the Mets, Texas and Oakland.

  • Mustang

Watched the game live yesterday and caught American Pharaoh Triple Crown win at Billy’s and just watch a great game today.
Love you guys, but it’s nice every once in a while to watch baseball without Blogging.
    Great 2 days!!!

    • BearNJ

AP win was awesome. I was at Belmont with family. Never heard a crowd that loud.

      • Mustang

        So jealous!!!!
That must have been amazing !!!!
        Glad for you dude!

  • cxz
  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Pirela with the drive of the game… Damn kids stealing the show from guys like Gritner.

  • Barzini

I really do feel sorry for Calhoun right there.

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

    ????????????????????????????????????

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Thank god the ???? didnt say to put in Gas Can Rogers or we may have been ???? rather than ????.

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

Girardi says CC would’ve gone out the next inning, thank you Ump!

    • BearNJ

Girardi has to start treating CC like Capuano. Six & done. CC was in trouble that last inning.

      • Mustang

“Girardi has to start treating CC like Capuano. Six & done”

Yea if Carpuano would be able to go 6….LOL
Hate when people put CC and Carpuano in the same breath if they SEE them pitch they know the difference

        • BearNJ

Not saying their equals. They are not. Just the same concept. Twice through the order and take a seat.

      • Tony Wilson

Are you drinking, when was the last time Capuano went 6 quality innings? Please don’t compare the 2, it makes no sense.

        • BearNJ

Cc is a lot better. Its the same concept of twice through the order and then take a seat. He has been burned when he’s tried to get 7th from CC.

          • Tony Wilson

Good point but CC has the only complete game on the staff and has gone 7+innings 4 times. I think he is going to be a big part in helping the staff lead the team to the division title.

  • JimK

on the replay here it looked like CC made contact with the Ump’s shoulder

    • cxz

Nah, I’ve watched it over a few times now, he got really in his face and the ump took a step back, but I don’t see any contact.

      • JimK

it was hard to tell, but the replay they showed on the post game show had CC to the left of Girardi, and it looked like he may have made contact, but since no one mentioned it, I am probably mistaken

  • Mustang

Great weekend of sports I’m officially in

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

6-0 week btw! 32-25, 7 games over .500. Not to be that guy, but pretty sure we were 7 games over .500 before the freefall of 1-10.

    • RetroRob

Might have been 9 over. Can’t remember. We know the winning streak will end, and we know they’ll hit another slump. Just have to avoid the downside of these bi-polar stretches. Even if they went 3-8 or 4-7 during that stretch would have been helpful. As I wrote last night, a normal-feeling period where they go 11-9 wouldn’t be the worst if it means they can avoid a real down.

      • JimK

nine is the high point this year; I think 7 was last year’s best record over .500, and in 2013 it was 12 twice

      • BearNJ

Lead up to All Star break has a lot of winnable games at home.

        • RetroRob

They’ve had a tougher schedule than many teams the first two months, both in relation to opponents, and the fact they’ve been on the road so much. I remember looking at the schedule at the start of the year and thinking if they could be within a couple games of first place at this point in the season, the schedule would then flip in their favor. They’re doing even better than I had hoped standings wise, so hopefully they can keep building on their lead.

      • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

I’d like to come out 4-1 this week, but probably most realistic thing is a split with the Nationals and 2 out of 3 in Baltimore. Who knows. 3-2 would be great. 2-3 wouldn’t be terrible, but I’d like to sweep Baltimore then.

        • Tony Wilson

We are thinking the same, worst case 3-2.

  • Sir Didihiro Nakamura

    http://mediadownloads.mlb.com/mlbam/2015/06/07/mlbtv_ananya_149117983_1200K.mp4

At 28 seconds CC says “Fucker” to the ump. LOOOL!
