Game 33: Better Luck This Time?
Yankee bats get quieted by Lance McCullers Jr. in a 5-1 loss

Two quick notes to pass along:

  • RHP Chance Adams is being promoted to Triple-A Scranton, report Josh Norris and Joel Sherman. He’ll make his first start Monday. Dating back to last year, Adams had a 1.72 ERA (3.42 FIP) with 25.2% strikeouts and 9.5% walks in 18 starts and 104.2 innings at Double-A. The RailRiders, by the way, now have seven starters for five rotation spots.
  • 1B Tyler Austin is scheduled to begin playing minor league rehab games late next week “if all goes well,” farm system head Gary Denbo told Shane Hennigan. Last week we heard Austin had begun taking batting practice. He’s been out since a foul ball broke his foot very early in Spring Training.
  • OF Dustin Fowler made the Prospect Hot Sheet again. He placed 12th this week after ranking first last week. He went 8-for-27 (.296) with one double and three triples last week.

Triple-A Scranton (10-3 loss to Syracuse)

  • SS Tyler Wade: 1-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 K
  • LF Dustin Fowler: 1-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K
  • RF Clint Frazier: 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 K — homered off Nationals righty Joe Ross, who is apparently in Triple-A these days
  • 2B Ron Refsnyder: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 K
  • CF Mason Williams: 0-4, 1 K
  • C Kyle Higashioka: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 K, 1 E (throwing) — 4-for-15 (.267) with two doubles since being sent down
  • RHP Luis Cessa: 3 IP, 10 H, 9 R, 8 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 5/0 GB/FB — 47 of 77 pitches were strikes (61%) … 18/15 K/BB in 32.1 innings down here, and that ain’t gonna cut it, Luis
  • RHP Ernesto Frieri: 1 IP, zeroes, 3 K — eleven of 14 pitches were strikes … 16/6 K/BB in 12 innings … I imagine he has an opt-out clause in his contract … those tend to come at some point in June, and June is only three weeks away now

Double-A Trenton (5-2 win over Harrisburg)

  • DH Thairo Estrada: 2-4, 1 R, 2 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K — only his fifth and sixth extra-base hits of the season … he’s hitting .327/.424/.408 with 14 walks and 12 strikeouts
  • LF Jake Cave: 3-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 RBI — threw a runner out at third
  • SS Gleyber Torres: 1-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
  • 3B Miguel Andujar: 1-4, 1 RBI
  • CF Billy McKinney: 0-3, 1 K — looked like he was starting snap out of it a few days ago but lol nope
  • RHP Ronald Herrera: 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 7/5 GB/FB — 49 of 76 pitches were strikes (64%) … allowed his first run in his 18th inning of the season … he’s the guy the Yankees got from the Padres in the Jose Pirela trade
  • RHP J.P. Feyereisen: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 3/2 GB/FB — 20 of 28 pitches were strikes (71%)

High-A Tampa (11-5 win over Clearwater)

  • SS Jorge Mateo: 4-6, 2 R, 1 2B, 2 HR, 2 RBI — first career multi-homer game … his batting line went from .225/.273/.318 to .244/.286/.385 in one game … hopefully he builds on this going forward rather than have it be a random good game
  • 2B Kyle Holder: 0-5, 1 K
  • CF Tito Polo: 1-4, 2 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 SB — 15-for-36 (.417) during his nine-game hitting streak
  • LF Trey Amburgey: 2-4, 2 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
  • DH Nick Solak: 2-4, 3 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K — first homer of the season … 20 walks and 20 strikeouts in 35 games for last year’s second round pick
  • RF Jhalan Jackson: 3-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI
  • RHP Zack Littell: 5.1 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 7/6 GB/FB — 48 of 86 pitches were strikes (56%)

Low-A Charleston (2-1 loss to Hickory in six innings) completed early due to rain

  • SS Diego Castillo & 2B Angel Aguilar: both 0-3
  • CF Blake Rutherford: 1-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K — 10-for-22 (.455) with three doubles and two triples during his little six-game hitting streak
  • C Donny Sands: 2-2, 1 RBI — 17-for-55 (.309) in his last 14 games
  • RF Isiah Gilliam: 1-2, 1 K
  • 3B Oswaldo Cabrera: 0-2
  • RHP Nick Nelson: 3.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 1 Balk, 2 HB, 2/1 GB/FB — 43 of 84 pitches were strikes (51%) … 26/10 K/BB in 20 innings
