Judge's monster homer leads Yanks to 5-1 win over Mariners

Here are the day’s notes:

  • Two roster clearing moves, per Matt Kardos: RHP Branden Pinder has been released and RHP Dillon McNamara has been traded to the Giants for … something. Not sure what. Probably cash. Pinder had allowed just one run (unearned) in 11.2 innings back from Tommy John surgery.
  • 3B Miguel Andujar is away from Triple-A Scranton because he’s about to become a dad. He’s currently in New York with his girlfriend, who will soon give birth, reports D.J. Eberle. Congrats to them.

Triple-A Scranton (2-1 win over Charlotte, walk-off style)

  • 3B Tyler Wade: 1-4, 1 R, 1 K, 1 SB
  • CF Jake Cave: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K
  • DH Mike Ford: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K — walk-off single
  • RF Billy McKinney: 0-3, 2 K
  • LF Mason Williams: 0-3 — threw a runner out at second
  • RHP Chance Adams: 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 12/1 GB/FB — 64 of 95 pitches were strikes (67%) … only his second career start with zero strikeouts, and the first only last an inning due to rain … the ground balls are really good though

Double-A Trenton (5-1 loss to New Hampshire)

  • SS Thairo Estrada & CF Rashad Crawford: both 0-4 — Estrada struck out twice, Crawford once … Estrada also committed a throwing error
  • 2B Abi Avelino: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 K
  • RHP Brody Koerner: 3.2 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 4/1 GB/FB — 50 of 86 pitches were strikes (58%)
  • RHP Colten Brewer: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 3/2 GB/FB — 21 of 32 pitches were strikes (66%)

High-A Tampa (6-4 win over Fort Myers)

  • CF Jeff Hendrix: 1-3, 1 R, 2 BB
  • SS Kyle Holder: 1-3, 1 BB — 11-for-31 (.355) in his last nine games
  • 2B Nick Solak: 1-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K — 6-for-13 (.462) in his last three games
  • DH Trey Amburgey: 1-4, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K, 1 HBP
  • LF Alex Palma: 2-4, 1 SB — threw a runner out at third for yet another outfield assist
  • RHP Raynel Espinal: 3.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HB, 1/4 GB/FB — 34 of 51 pitches were strikes (67%) … 25-year-old has a 65/7 K/BB in 54.2 innings

  • LHP James Reeves: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 2/1 GB/FB — 28 of 42 pitches were strikes (67%)

Low-A Charleston (4-2 loss to Hagerstown)

  • 2B Hoy Jun Park: 1-4 — got picked off second
  • SS Diego Castillo: 1-3
  • CF Estevan Florial: 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K
  • C Donny Sands: 2-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 E (throwing) — 17-for-37 (.459) in his last ten games
  • DH Isiah Gilliam: 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 K
  • CF Pablo Olivares: 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 SB — just up from Pulaski
  • RHP Nick Nelson: 4.1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 6 K, 2 WP, 5/1 GB/FB — 50 of 89 pitches were strikes (56%) … 20/12 K/BB in his last four starts and 18 innings

Short Season Staten Island (5-2 win over Hudson Valley)

  • SS Wilkerman Garcia: 1-4, 1 R, 1 SB — even after tonight, he’s in a 4-for-29 (.138) slide
  • 3B Nelson Gomez: 1-3, 1 K
  • RF Timmy Robinson: 2-3, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 1 K
  • CF Dom Thompson-Williams: 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI — threw a runner out at first
  • LHP Justin Kamplain: 4 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 5/2 GB/FB — 31 of 47 pitches were strikes (66%) … he was with Charleston and Tampa last season, but now he’s back down here because there aren’t enough pitching roster spots to go around
  • LHP Jeff Degano: 0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 0 K — eleven pitches, three strikes … yep, still broken … he’s faced seven batter this season: five walks, one hit, one strikeout

Rookie Pulaski (5-4 win over Greeneville in eleven innings)

  • RF Steven Sensley: 2-6, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 K — still mashing
  • 1B Dermis Garcia: 0-5, 3 K
  • DH Eric Wagaman: 1-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 3 K
  • LF Brayan Emery: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
  • C Saul Torres: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K — drove in the go-ahead run with a single in the 11th
  • LHP Chaz Hebert: 4 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 5/4 GB/FB — 44 of 54 pitches were strikes (81%) … 21/4 K/BB in 15.1 innings back from Tommy John surgery

Rookie GCL Yanks East (4-2 win over GCL Tigers West in seven innings) completed early due to rain

  • RF Canaan Smith: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 SB — this year’s fourth rounder now has 17 walks in 18 pro games
  • DH Jhon Moronta: 0-3, 1 K
  • RHP Roansy Contreras: 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 WP, 7/2 GB/FB — 17-year-old signed for the maximum $300,000 bonus last year even though he was one of the more highly rated pitchers available during the international signing period

Rookie GCL Yanks West (5-4 loss to GCL Tigers East)

  • LF Evan Alexander: 2-5, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI — last year’s 19th rounder is hitting .277/.368/.492 and ranks second in the league with three homers
  • SS Oswald Peraza: 1-5, 1 R, 1 E (throwing)
  • RF Juan De Leon: 2-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI — 19-year-old signed for $2M as part of the 2014-15 international signing class and he’s hitting .321/.455/.472 through 15 games
  • 1B Miguel Flames: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
  • RHP Pedro Espinola: 3.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 2 WP, 1 HB, 3/1 GB/FB
