Game 119: Home on the Road
Yankees 5, Mets 3: Yankees win third straight behind Judge's dinger, Didi's double

Josh Norris caught up with RHP Nolan Martinez, who confirmed he missed the start of the season with a rotator cuff issue. He’s also changed his changeup grip, going from a split-finger grip to a circle grip, which gives him better control of the pitch.

Triple-A Scranton Game One (9-4 loss to Gwinnett) completion of yesterday’s game, which was suspended due to rain in the middle of the fifth inning … they faced former Yankees farmhand RHP Manny Barreda, who is still kicking around … he’s spent the last few seasons pitching in Mexico before hooking on with the Braves as a depth arm earlier this year

  • CF Mason Williams: 1-5, 1 K
  • 3B Miguel Andujar: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SB, 1 E (throwing) — had been in a 4-for-24 (.167)
  • 1B Tyler Austin: 3-5, 2 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 K — third homer in ten games since coming back from the hamstring injury
  • LF Billy McKinney & RF Jake Cave: both 1-4 — McKinney struck out and Cave scored a run
  • RHP Domingo German: 5 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 2 HB, 6/2 GB/FB — 50 of 80 pitches were strikes (63%) … he pitched yesterday, before the rain
  • RHP J.P. Feyereisen: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 0/2 GB/FB — eleven of 20 pitches were strikes

Triple-A Scranton Game Two (4-1 loss to Gwinnett)

  • RF Jake Cave: 1-3, 2 K
  • 3B Miguel Andujar: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 K
  • 1B Greg Bird: 1-2, 1 K — played five innings at first base in his first rehab game, as scheduled
  • DH Tyler Austin & LF Billy McKinney: both 0-3, 2 K
  • CF Mason Williams:
  • RHP Chance Adams: 5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 WP, 7/4 GB/FB — 61 of 94 pitches were strikes (65%) … 24th start of the season and the first time he allowed more than three runs
  • RHP Nick Rumbelow: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 3/1 GB/FB — 16 of 26 pitches were strikes (62%) … 37/8 K/BB in 33.2 innings back from Tommy John surgery

Double-A Trenton (8-7 win over Akron)

  • CF Jeff Hendrix: 2-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K — 19-for-36 (.528) during his nine-game hitting streak … when Hendrix gets hot, he gets crazy hot
  • 2B Nick Solak: 2-5, 1 R, 2 E (fielding, throwing) — last year’s second rounder is up to .305/.391/.469 with 23 doubles, eleven homers, and 14 steals in 18 attempts this season … by this time next year, we’ll be wondering why the Yankees hate him and aren’t calling him up
  • SS Thairo Estrada: 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI — 11-for-19 (.579) in his last four games
  • DH Ryan McBroom: 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
  • LF Zack Zehner: 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI — three homers in his last eight games after hitting eight in his first 105 games of the season
  • 3B Abi Avelino: 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI
  • RF Rashad Crawford: 0-4, 1 K
  • RHP Brody Koerner: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 7/5 GB/FB — 54 of 90 pitches were strikes (60%)
  • LHP James Reeves: 2 IP, zeroes, 2 K, 2/2 GB/FB — 15 of 20 pitches were strikes … 44/7 K/BB in 40.1 innings for the 2015 tenth rounder … the Yankees brought him to big league camp as a non-roster player this year, though he didn’t pitch because of an elbow injury … the non-roster invite tells us the Yankees like him though, and feel he has a chance to contribute at some point, so I guess the sense we’ll see him in Spring Training again next year

High-A Tampa was rained out. They’re going to play a doubleheader tomorrow.

Low-A Charleston (5-2 win over Greenville)

  • LF Dom Thompson-Williams: 1-2, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 CS

  • DH Isiah Gilliam: 1-4, 1 R, 1 RBI
  • RF Steven Sensley: 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K — hit the go-ahead grand slam in the eighth, because of course

  • RHP Rony Garcia: 6.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 5/3 GB/FB — 66 of 92 pitches were strikes (72%) … 48/15 K/BB in 58.1 innings for the 19-year-old

Short Season Staten Island Game One (5-1 win over Connecticut in seven innings)

  • SS Wilkerman Garcia: 1-4, 1 R, 2 K, 1 E (throwing)
  • 3B Jose Polonia: 2-3, 2 RBI — just back from the All-Star Game … he’s still looking for his first extra-base hit of the season, if you can believe that
  • RF Timmy Robinson: 1-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 SB
  • RHP Jonathan Loaisiga: 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 8/1 GB/FB — 36 of 50 pitches were strikes (72%) … Johnny Lasagna has a 18/2 K/BB and a 68.7% ground ball rate in 20.2 innings

Short Season Staten Island Game Two (3-0 win over Connecticut in seven innings) makeup of their August 7th rainout … that’s nine straight wins

  • SS Wilkerman Garcia: 1-3, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 BB
  • RF Timmy Robinson: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI
  • RHP Jio Orozco: 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 5/3 GB/FB — 41 of 72 pitches were strikes (57%) … 101/56 K/BB in 108.2 innings for the guy who came over in the Ben Gamel trade

  • RF Jhon Moronta: 0-4, 1 R, 1 K
  • RHP Yancarlos Baez: 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 1 K, 8/2 GB/FB — 16/7 K/BB in 25.2 innings for the converted infielder

Rookie GCL Yanks West Game One (3-2 win over GCL Tigers West in seven innings)

  • SS Oswald Peraza: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
  • DH Gustavo Campero: 1-1, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB — left the game after getting picked off first
  • PH-DH Juan De Leon: 0-2
  • RF Jordan Scott: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 E (throwing)
  • 3B-1B Miguel Flames: 2-3, 1 2B — 12-for-32 (.375) during his nine-game hitting streak
  • CF Jonathan Amundaray: 0-3, 1 K
  • RHP Matt Sauer: 1.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 1/2 GB/FB — he’s gone exactly 1.2 in each of his four pro outings, which is sorta weird

Rookie GCL Yanks West Game Two (6-5 win over GCL Tigers West in eight innings, walk-off style) makeup of their July 31st rainout … they allowed two runs in the top of the eighth, then scored three in the bottom half for the walk-off win

  • 2B Chris Hess: 3-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 E (throwing) — this year’s 17th rounder had the walk-off single … the first two runs in that three-run eighth inning scored on wild pitches #GCLlife
  • RF Juan De Leon: 0-4, 2 K
  • LF Jordan Scott: 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI — leads the GCL with seven home runs
  • 1B Miguel Flames: 1-4, 1 R
  • RHP Pedro Espinola: 4.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 5/4 GB/FB
