We’re back in the swing of things now. The Yankees will play their third Grapefruit League game this afternoon — they won the previous two — and the day in, day out of grind of baseball has returned. Position battles are underway, starters are getting stretched out, and the kids are doing all they can to impress. Fun time of the year.
The Yankees made the 20-ish mile ride across the causeway to Clearwater for this afternoon’s game against the Phillies. Two things to watch this afternoon: Gleyber Torres against a bonafide frontline starter in Aaron Nola, and Jordan Montgomery’s changeup. He’s working to rediscover that pitch. Here is the Phillies’ lineup and here is the Yankees’ lineup:
- CF Jacoby Ellsbury
- SS Gleyber Torres
- 1B Greg Bird
- DH Aaron Hicks
- C Austin Romine
- 2B Danny Espinosa
- 3B Ronald Torreyes
- RF Billy McKinney
- LF Shane Robinson
LHP Jordan Montgomery
There’s no word on who will come off the bench or out of the bullpen today, but Justus Sheffield was scheduled to make the trip, so I imagine he’ll pitch. The Yankees wouldn’t send him on the road just to be an emergency arm.
It is sunny and warm in Clearwater this afternoon. Good day for baseball. Today’s game will begin a little after 1pm ET and you can watch live on MLB Network and MLB.tv. Neither will be blacked out in the Yankees’ home market. Enjoy the game.
