DotF: DePaula gets rocked in Tampa’s loss

McCann's big night gives Yankees 7-3 win over Blue Jays

According to his Twitter feed, C Luis Torrens played in an Extended Spring Training game today. He has been out with a shoulder injury since mid-April. The Yankees aggressively pushed the now-18-year-old Torrens to Low-A Charleston this year and he was pretty overmatched (.154/.353/.369), so I wonder if they will opt to keep him with one of the Rookie Gulf Coast League squads in Tampa once healthy.

Triple-A Scranton (4-3 loss to Toledo in eight innings) completed early due to rain

  • 2B Rob Refsnyder: 0-3, 2 BB
  • RF Zoilo Almonte: 0-4, 1 K — first hitless game since being sent down
  • 1B Kyle Roller: 1-3, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
  • 3B Zelous Wheeler: 2-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K
  • RHP Bruce Billings: 7 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 6/7 GB/FB — 65 of 95 pitches were strikes (68%)

Double-A Trenton (3-2 loss to Bowie)

  • CF Mason Williams, DH Ben Gamel, 1B Peter O’Brien & LF Taylor Dugas: all 0-4, 1 K
  • RF Tyler Austin: 1-4, 1 K
  • C Gary Sanchez: 2-4, 1 K
  • LHP Manny Banuelos: 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 4/2 GB/FB — 35 of 52 pitches were strikes (67%) … Keith Law said he sat mostly 90-92 and was not quite the same guy he was pre-elbow injury
  • RHP Zach Nuding: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 1 WP, 3/5 GB/FB — 54 of 89 pitches were strikes (61%)

High-A Tampa (11-2 loss to Daytona)

  • CF Jake Cave & SS Cito Culver: both 1-4, 1 K — Cave drove in a run and Culver missed a catch for an error
  • 1B Greg Bird: 2-4, 1 2B
  • 3B Dante Bichette Jr.: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 E (fielding) — in an 8-for-37 (.216)
  • RHP Rafael DePaula: 1 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 1/0 GB/FB — yikes

Low-A Charleston is off until tomorrow for the All-Star break.

Short Season Staten Island (1-0 loss to Aberdeen)

  • RF Austin Aune: 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K
  • DH Nathan Mikolas: 0-3, 2 K, 1 HBP
  • 1B Bo Thompson: 1-4, 2 K
  • SS Thairo Estrada: 0-3 — still waiting on his first hit of the year
  • C Collin Slaybaugh: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 K — started a few games in center field too … he’s a versatile guy, huh?
  • RHP Andy Beresford: 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 5/3 GB/FB
  • RHP Conor Mullee: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 WP, 1/2 GB/FB — he was one of the hardest throwers in the system before dealing with arm problems the last two years
  • RHP Manolo Reyes: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 2/0 GB/FB
