Another year in the books

Today was the last day of the regular season for the 4 full season affiliates, who finished the year with a combined 329-236 record. As I said the other day, that record shows not only how much depth & talent the Yanks have in the minors, but it’s also a testament to the quality of coaching and instruction they have in place.

Triple-A Scranton (8-5 win over Pawtucket) Scranton will take on Richmond in the first round of the AAA playoffs, which kicks off on Wednesday…Chad Jennings reports the that postseason rotation could be Steven White in Game 1, followed in order by The Ghost of Kei Igawa, Mighty Matt DeSalvo & Jeff Karstens
Brett Gardner: 4 for 5, 1 R, 1 RBI, 3 SB
Austin Jackson: 1 for 3, 2 R, 1 2B, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 SB – even if it was just a 1 game cameo, how many of you had Ajax finishing the year in AAA?
Bronson Sardina: 2 for 5, 2 R, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 1 SB – his year was a lot better than it appears on the surface
Mike Kinkade: 1 for 5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Eric Duncan: 2 for 2, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SB – finished the year on a nice little 26 for 100 streak with 9 doubles, 1 triple, 3 homers, 24 RBI, 10 walks & 23 K
Andy Cannizaro: 2 for 5, 1 R, 1 2B
Anthony Claggett: 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HB – 41 of 63 pitches were strikes (65.1%)
Eric Hacker: 2.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Ben Kozlowski: 1.1 IP, zeroes

Double-A Trenton (8-6 win over New Hampshire) Trenton will take on either New Hampshire or Portland in the first round of the AA playoffs, which start on Wednesday
Reegie Corona: 2 for 5, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI
PJ Pilittere: 3 for 5, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 K, 1 E (fielding) – second year in a row that his team’s pitching staff was one of the best in the minors…coincidence? not as much you think
Noah Hall: 3 for 4, 1 R,  2 RBI, 1 BB
Matt Carson: 1 for 2, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 3 BB, 1 CS – will he be back next year for a 3rd stint in Trenton?
Cody Ehlers: 3 for 5, 1 2B, 4 RBI
Marcos Vechionacci: 1 for 5, 1 2B, 4 K – double in his final AB aside, it seems like he was pretty overmatched in his brief cameo
Tyler Clippard: 6 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 2-10 GB/FB – gave up 3 jacks
Kevin Whelan: 0.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K – sure hope he didn’t leave with an injury

High-A Tampa wrapped up their season yesterday. They finished only 2 games behind first place Clearwater, and will watch from home as the second half champs take on the first half champ, Sarasota.

Low-A Charleston (6-5 win over Rome in 11 innings, walk-off style) Charleston finished the year 3 games out of first place, and will watch the playoffs from home
Hit Streak Hilligoss: 1 for 2 – finished the year with 161 hits in 128 games

Kevin Smith: 2 for 5, 1 R, 1 3B, 3 RBI – walk-off single

Short Season Staten Island (5-0 loss to Brooklyn) SI finishes up their season on Friday; they’re currently 3.5 GB of first place Brooklyn…looks like the 2-time defending NY-Penn League Champs might not even get a shot to defend their crown
Justin Snyder, Austin Krum & Frank Lonigro: all 1 for 3 – Snyder walked (surprise surprise) & was caught stealing…Krum doubled…Lonigro K’ed
Matt Morris: 1 for 2, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 E (fielding)
rest of lineup: combined 0 for 14, 1 BB, 2 K – Braedyn Pruitt got caught stealing & was hit by a pitch…Taylor Holiday committed a throwing error…Damon Sublett didn’t play for the 3rd game (and 2nd day) in a row
