The three batters that doomed A.J., Yanks
A look at the last 35 games

Old buddy Dan McCutchen was named to the Team USA World Cup roster. JB Cox was part of the last World Cup team in 2007, when they won the gold medal by defeating Cuba in Taiwan. If my memory serves me correctly, Kurt Suzuki and Brandon Wood hit big homers in the finals. Kurt Klutch definitely did something big, I remember that much. I’m an idiot, nevermind.

Triple-A Scranton (2-1 win over Syracuse)
Kevin Russo: 2 for 4, 1 K, 1 CS
Ramiro Pena: 0 for 4, 1 K – 1 for his last 19 (.053)
Austin Jackson, Shelley Duncan & Juan Miranda: all 1 for 3 – Shelley scored a run … Miranda homered, drove in two, K’ed & committed a throwing error
Colin Curtis & Reegie Corona: both 0 for 2, 1 BB, 1 K – Corona committed a throwing error
Francisco Cervelli & John Rodriguez: both 0 for 3 – J-Rod K’ed twice
Romulo Sanchez: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 9 K, 2 WP, 10-2 GB/FB – 55 of 96 pitches were strikes (57.3%) … just a brilliant effort from a guy who was nothing more than the fourth or fifth option out of the pen earlier in the season
Zach Kroenke: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 1-0 GB/FB – 5 of 6 pitches were strikes
Jon Albaladejo: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 1 WP, 3-0 GB/FB – 13 of 19 pitches were strikes (81.3%)

Double-A Trenton (9-4 loss to Altoona)
Austin Krum, Edwar Gonzalez & James Cooper: all 0 for 4 – Krum was hit by a pitch, scored a run & K’ed four friggin’ times … Edwar K’ed twice … Coop threw a runner out at second from LF
Eduardo Nunez: 2 for 5, 1 R, 2 2B, 1 RBI
Chris Malec: 1 for 2, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB – 9th homer of the year ties his carer high, which came back in 2007
Noah Hall & PJ Pilittere: both 1 for 4 – Hall K’ed
Marcos Vechionacci: 0 for 3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Justin Snyder: 2 for 4, 1 2B, 1 K
Lance Pendleton: 6 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 6-8 GB/FB
Eric Wordekemper: 1.1 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 0-2 GB/FB – he allowed more runs in this game than he did in the entire 2007 season
Jose Valdez: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 0-1 GB/FB

High-A Tampa
Game 1 (6-3 win over Dunedin in 7 innings)
Dan Brewer, Austin Romine & Damon Sublett: all 0 for 3 – Brewer walked, scored a run & K’ed twice … Romine K’ed  & allowed a passed ball … Sublett K’ed twice
David Adams: 2 for 4, 1 R, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 K – grand salami gives him 72 RBI on the season, trailing only Shelley & Miranda for the farm system lead
Brandon Laird: 2 for 4, 1 R, 1 2B
Kevin Smith & Walt Ibarra: both 1 for 3, 1 R – Smith K’ed twice … Ibarra drove in two
Luis Nunez: 1 for 2, 1 2B, 1 BB
David Phelps: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 5-4 GB/FB – picked a runner off first
Phil Bartlewski: 2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 1-4 GB/FB
Game 2 (4-1 loss to Dunedin in 7 innings)
Emerson Landoni: 2 for 3, 1 CS – just up from Staten Island
Jack Rye, Seth Fortenberry & Jose Gil: all 0 for 3 – Rye & Gil each K’ed once, Fortenberry twice
Dan Brewer, Kevin Smith & Brandon Laird: all 1 for 3 – Laird hit a solo jack
Luis Nunez & Walt Ibarra: both 0 for 2 – Nunez drew a walk
Ryan Zink: 5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 6-6 GB/FB
Brad Rulon: 1 IP, zeroes, 1 K, 1-1 GB/FB

Low-A Charleston‘s game is taking way too long to finish, and I’m not in the mood to wait around. Here’s the box score, but trust me, you’re not missing much. Just Manny Banuelos striking out the side.

Short Season Staten Island (10-6 win over Tri-City)
Jimmy Paredes & Neil Medchill: both 2 for 3, 2 RBI – Paredes doubled, stole a base & scored twice … Medchill hit his league leading 14th homer & K’ed
Justin Milo: 0 for 3, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K, , 1 SB
Zoilo Almonte & Kyle Higashioka: both 0 for 4, 1 BB – Almonte swiped a bag & threw a runner out at third from CF … Higashioka scored a run & K’ed twice
DeAngelo Mack: 1 for 3, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 HBP – stuck in Medchill’s shadow, but he’s having himself a helluva pro debut
Mike Lyon: 1 for 3, 2 R, 2 BB
Kelvin Castro: 2 for 4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 SB
Carmen Angelini: 1 for 4, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 SB
Matt Richardson: 4 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 4-5 GB/FB – Robert Pimpsner says he threw 47 of 75 pitches for strikes (62.7%)

Mike Solbach: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 2-0 GB/FB – 9 of 14 pitches were strikes (64.3%)
Dan Miller: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 1-1 GB/FB – 11 of 18 pitches were strikes (61.1%)

Rookie GCL Yanks (4-3 loss to GCL Blue Jays in 11 innings, walk-off style)
Eduardo Sosa: 0 for 3, 1 R, 3 BB, 2 K, 1 SB
Jose Toussen & Ramon Flores: both 1 for 4, 1 RBI, 1 BB – Toussen doubled & K’ed … Flores K’ed twice & committed a throwing error

Jose Ramirez: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 K, 5-4 GB/FB – 19-yrs old with a 53-16 K/BB ratio in 61 IP … there just might be something here
Shane Greene: 1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 0-2 GB/FB
Dickie Marquez: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 1-0 GB/FB

Sam Elam: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 3 WP, 1-0 GB/FB – gave up a single with one out in the 11th, then the runner went to second on a wild pitch, then third on a wild pitch, then finally came on another wild pitch
