Game 90: Tanaka Returns
Orioles 6, Yankees 5: Another winnable game slips away

The Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders are off until Thursday for the All-Star break. The game is tomorrow night in Columbus. RHP Cody Carroll will represent the Yankees. 3B Brandon Drury was selected to the All-Star Game as well. Not sure whether he’s still planning to participate though.

The Double-A Trenton Thunder are off until Thursday for the All-Star break. The game will be played tomorrow night at Trenton’s Arm & Hammer Park. Tickets are still available. 3B Mandy Alvarez, OF Trey Amburgey, LHP Caleb Frare, and LHP James Reeves are representing the Yankees.

High-A Tampa Tarpons (4-3 win over Jupiter) they faced former Yankees farmhand RHP Jorge Guzman, who went to the Marlins in the Giancarlo Stanton trade

  • SS Diego Castillo: 1-3, 1 R, 1 BB — 9-for-26 (.346) in his last seven games
  • 1B Brandon Wagner: 0-2, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K
  • RF Isiah Gilliam: 0-4, 3 K
  • CF Dom Thompson-Williams: 2-4, 2 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K — took Guzman deep … 13 homers in 54 games this year … he hit six homers in 120 games from 2016-17
  • C Donny Sands: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K — go-ahead single in the top of the ninth
  • RHP Nick Green: 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 6 BB, 7 K, 5 WP, 1 Balk, 1 HB, 5/2 GB/FB — 48 of 94 pitches were strikes (49%) … six walks, five wild pitches, and only 49% strikes? a no control night
  • LHP Phil Diehl: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 0/1 GB/FB — 23 of 34 pitches were strikes (68%) … 79/12 K/BB in 48.2 innings

The Low-A Charleston RiverDogs and Short Season Staten Island Yankees both had scheduled off-days.

Rookie Pulaski Yankees (11-2 win over Bristol)

  • SS Oswald Peraza: 1-3, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K
  • CF Everson Pereira: 2-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB — 8-for-22 (.364) in his last five games
  • 2B Ezequiel Duran: 1-4, 2 R, 1 BB — 7-for-23 (.304) in his last five games
  • 3B Nelson Gomez: 1-5, 1 R, 2 RBI, 2 K
  • RHP Luis Gil: 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, 1 WP, 3/3 GB/FB — 42 of 80 pitches were strikes (53%) … 1.80 ERA and 20/12 K/BB in 15 innings for the 20-year-old … the Yankees got him from the Twins in the Jake Cave trade

Rookie GCL Yankees East Game One (4-3 loss to GCL Yankees West in eight innings, walk-off style) going to combine the two teams since it doesn’t really matter who played for who

  • CF Ryder Green: 0-4, 4 K — this year’s third rounder has a 37.1% strikeout rate through eight pro games
  • DH Estevan Florial: 1-1, 2 R, 1 RBI 2 BB, 3 SB — got picked off first … played seven innings in his third rehab game … the wrist must be feeling pretty good after surgery if he’s diving into bases on all those steals
  • LF Alexander Santana: 0-3, 3 K, 1 HBP — 0-for-7 with seven strikeouts and a hit-by-pitch the last two days … rough
  • CF Antonio Cabello: 0-4, 1 K — threw a runner out at third
  • DH Anthony Garcia & SS Roberto Chirinos: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
  • RF Stanley Rosario: 1-3, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K
  • C Hemmanuel Rosario: 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 HBP, 1 E (throwing)
  • LHP Chaz Hebert: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1/1 GB/FB — he’s down here rehabbing from some kind of injury
  • RHP Yoiber Marquina: 2.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 3/2 GB/FB — the Yankees got him from the Indians as the player to be named later in the Nick Goody trade last year … Marquina is currently working his way back from Tommy John surgery
  • RHP Clarke Schmidt: 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 3/1 GB/FB — 10/2 K/BB in 8.1 innings for last year’s first round pick, who’s rehabbing from Tommy John surgery … the Yankees aren’t going to rush anything, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Schmidt spends a few more weeks down here

Rookie GCL Yankees East Game Two (3-1 win over GCL Yankees West in seven innings) makeup of their June 30th rainout

  • DH Isiah Pasteur: 0-4, 1 K
  • 3B Jose Villa: 3-4, 1 K — got picked off first … dude is hitting .458/.458/.695 through 14 games
  • DH Anthony Cabello: 0-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K
  • RF Anthony Garcia: 0-4, 2 K
  • LF Stanley Rosario: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 K

  • LHP Josh Maciejewski: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 1 Balk, 2/1 GB/FB — 14/2 K/BB in 10.1 innings for this year’s tenth rounder
  • RHP Kenlly Montas: 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 5/0 GB/FB
