Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (6-5 loss to Buffalo)

  • RF Tyler Wade: 0-4, 2 K — has played the outfield exclusively since being sent down a few days ago
  • SS Abi Avelino: 0-4, 1 K
  • DH Mike Ford: 2-4, 2 R, 1 2B — 22-for-60 (.367) with six doubles and four homers in his last 16 games
  • 2B Ronald Torreyes: 3-4, 2 R, 1 RBI — 7-for-21 (.333) in six games since rejoining Scranton
  • CF Mark Payton: 2-4, 1 R, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 2 K — 12-for-39 (.308) with a double, a triple, and three homers in eleven games since the OF Clint Frazier injury and OF Billy McKinney trade pushed him into top outfielder duty
  • RHP Mike King: 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 1 HR, 1 WP, 12/3 GB/FB –– 57 of 87 pitches were strikes (66%) … excellent Triple-A debut … 1.94 ERA and 125/24 K/BB in 129.1 innings … among the 266 minor leagues with at least 100 innings pitched, only four have a lower ERA (RHP Garrett Whitlock is one of the four with a 1.85 ERA)
  • RHP George Kontos: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 1 HR, 1/1 GB/FB — eleven of 15 pitches were strikes (73%) … acquired from the Indians yesterday … first game in the organization since Spring Training 2012 and his first game for Scranton since 2011, when they were still the Yankees and had not yet become the RailRiders
  • RHP Tommy Kahnle: 0.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 1/0 GB/FB — eleven of 19 pitches were strikes (58%) … he’d allowed three runs total in his previous 17 games and 16.1 innings

Double-A Trenton Thunder (4-2 win over Hartford in eleven innings)

  • 1B Brandon Wagner: 0-5, 3 K
  • LF Trey Amburgey: 1-5
  • DH Kyle Holder: 0-4
  • RHP Alex Vargas: 3.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 4/4 GB/FB — 39 of 57 pitches were strikes (68%) … up from Charleston to make the spot start in King’s place
  • LHP James Reeves: 2.1 IP, zeroes, 3 K, 2/0 GB/FB — 19 of 25 pitches were strikes (76%) … back down here after the RailRiders got some pitching reinforcements

High-A Tampa Tarpons (5-3 loss to Lakeland)

  • SS Hoy Jun Park: 1-2, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 1 E (throwing) — 16.9 BB% and 18.0 K% this year
  • LF Isiah Gilliam: 1-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K
  • 1B Steven Sensley: 1-4, 2 K
  • RHP Nick Green: 6 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 8/4 GB/FB — 58 of 94 pitches were strikes (62%) … ground ball rate drops to 65.9%, which still leads the minors among pitchers with at least 100 innings

Low-A Charleston RiverDogs (4-2 win over Delmarva)

  • SS Wilkerman Garcia: 2-5, 1 R, 1 3B
  • 2B Oswaldo Cabrera: 1-4, 1 R, 1 RBI
  • CF Leonardo Molina: 1-3, 1 K, 1 SB
  • LHP Reiver Sanmartin: 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 10/3 GB/FB — 63 of 91 pitches were strikes (69%) … 40/3 K/BB in 45.1 innings
  • RHP Austin DeCarr: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 1 WP, 1 HB, 2/0 GB/FB — 27 of 51 pitches were strikes (53%) … 18/5 K/BB in his last eight appearances and 13.1 innings after 10/11 K/BB in his first eight games and eleven innings

Short Season Staten Island Yankees (2-1 loss to Aberdeen, walk-off style)

  • C Josh Breaux: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 E (throwing) — caught all nine innings for the first time since coming back from the hamstring injury
  • LF Canaan Smith: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI — 5-for-20 (.250) with eight strikeouts in six games back from a mystery injury
  • RF Junior Soto: 0-4
  • 2B Kyle Gray: 1-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K
  • RHP Clarke Schmidt: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, 1 HB, 3/1 GB/FB, 1 E (throwing) — 39 of 62 pitches were strikes (63%) … 30/6 K/BB in 23.1 innings back from Tommy John surgery … so far, so good
  • RHP Drew Finley: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 2/3 GB/FB, 1 E (throwing) — 14 of 28 pitches were strikes
  • RHP Frank German: 2.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 3/2 GB/FB — 38 of 47 pitches were strikes (81%) … this year’s fourth rounder had allowed three runs total in his first 16.1 pro innings

Rookie Pulaski Yankees (6-5 win over Elizabethton in ten innings, walk-off style)

  • CF Robert Javier: 1-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K
  • DH Mickey Gasper: 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB — three homers in the last four games and five homers in the last nine games for this year’s 27th rounder, who also has 19 walks and eleven strikeouts 25 games
  • 3B Nelson Gomez: 1-5, 2 R, 2 K, 1 E (fielding)
  • RHP Pedro Barrios: 3 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 HR, 3/2 GB/FB — 43 of 71 pitches were strikes (61%)

The two Rookie GCL Yankees clubs had their regular Sunday off-day.
