DotF: Mike King flirts with perfection in Scranton’s win

Game 133: Sabathia For The Series Win
White Sox 4, Yankees 1: Sometimes you get beat by ... Ryan LaMarre?!?

LHP Justus Sheffield has been held out of action with an illness the last few days, according to DJ Eberle. He’s expected to pitch tomorrow. This will probably delay his call-up. I don’t think the Yankees would call him up with only one outing under his belt after an illness. I bet Sheffield sticks with the RailRiders through the end of their regular season Monday so he make one more relief appearance before coming up.

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (2-1 win over Syracuse, walk-off style)

  • SS Tyler Wade: 2-4, 1 K
  • C Gary Sanchez: 0-4 — caught all nine innings as scheduled … he’s going to catch nine innings again tomorrow night, then be reevaluated Friday … sure would be swell if that evaluation goes well and he rejoins the Yankees on Saturday, the first day roster expand
  • 3B Gio Urshela: 0-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K
  • DH Mike Ford: 1-4, 1 K
  • 2B Abi Avelino: 2-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K — he’d been out the last few days with a shoulder issue
  • 1B Ryan McBroom: 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K — drew the walk-off walk
  • RHP Mike King: 6 IP, zeroes, 6 K, 8/2 GB/FB — 45 of 66 pitches were strikes (68%) … 18 up, 18 down … now has a 1.09 ERA and 27/4 K/BB and 56.5% grounders in five starts and 33 innings with the RailRiders … I wrote about him earlier this week
  • RHP Luis Cessa: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 2/1 GB/FB — 14 of 20 pitches were strikes … this was your standard “he’s going to get called up when rosters expand two days” tune-up appearance
  • RHP Chance Adams: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1/1 GB/FB — 17 of 29 pitches were strikes (59%) … he entered the game in the middle of an inning with men on base, which is not nothing when you’re new to relieving

Double-A Trenton Thunder (5-0 win over Altoona)

  • 3B Gosuke Katoh: 2-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K
  • 1B Brandon Wagner: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI — 7-for-13 (.538) in his last three games following a 5-for-44 (.114) skid
  • LF Trey Amburgey: 1-4, 1 R, 1 K
  • SS Kyle Holder: 1-4, 1 RBI
  • RHP Nick Green: 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 WP, 13/2 GB/FB — 48 of 82 pitches were strikes (59%) … lost the no-hitter with two outs in the seventh … now has a 66.3% ground ball rate in 132.2 innings

The High-A Tampa Tarpons had their doubleheader rained out. The first game will be made up as part of a doubleheader tomorrow. The second game was canceled and will not be made up.

Low-A Charleston RiverDogs (6-1 win over Columbia)

  • SS Oswaldo Cabrera: 3-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI
  • DH Dermis Garcia: 1-5, 1 R, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 3 K, 1 SB — he’s hit safely in 16 of this last 17 games
  • 2B Wilkerman Garcia: 1-4, 1 BB, 1 K, 2 SB
  • RHP Janson Junk: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 7 K, 1 HR, 4/3 GB/FB — 56 of 89 pitches were strikes (63%)

Short Season Staten Island Yankees (10-3 loss to Vermont)

  • SS Eduardo Torrealba: 0-3, 1 K
  • DH Josh Breaux: 0-4 — went 12-for-29 (.414) during his seven-game hitting streak
  • LF Canaan Smith: 1-4, 3 K
  • 2B Kyle Gray: 0-4, 1 K
  • RHP Rodney Hutchison: 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 1 HR, 7/0 GB/FB — 40 of 56 pitches were strikes (71%) … 1.97 ERA and 30/6 K/BB and 65.9% in 32 innings for this year’s sixth rounder
  • RHP Drew Finley: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 2 HB — only eleven of 31 pitches were strikes (36%)

Rookie Pulaski Yankees (5-2 win over Elizabethton) this was their regular season finale … they went 32-36 and did not qualify for the postseason

  • SS Oswald Peraza: 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K
  • RF Anthony Garcia: 1-4, 1 R, 2 K — went 2-for-21 (.095) with seven strikeouts in five games here after a big showing with Pulaski
  • 3B Nelson Gomez: 0-4, 2 K, 1 E (fielding — finished at .213/.289/.425 with 14 doubles, eleven homers, and a 37.5% strikeout rate
  • 2B Ezequiel Duran: 0-2, 1 K — got talked up all spring and then finished at .210/.251/.310 with 27.7% strikeout rate
  • RHP Pedro Barrios: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 6/0 GB/FB — 50 of 64 pitches were strikes (78%)

The Rookie GCL Yankees East‘s season is over. They went 19-35 and didn’t qualify for the postseason.

The Rookie GCL Yankees West‘s season is over. They went 25-27 and didn’t qualify for the postseason.
