Comeback falls short, Yanks fall to Tigers again

Based on his Twitter feed, 2B Angelo Gumbs started swinging a bat and hitting some balls off a tee today. He’s been out since late-June after suffering an elbow injury on a swing. There’s less than a month left in the minor league season, so hopefully he makes it back for a few weeks and a potential playoff run.

Triple-A Empire State (3-1 win over Rochester in 11 innings)

SS Eduardo Nunez, C Frankie Cervelli & CF Melky Mesa: all 1-5 — Nunez walked … Cervelli doubled and struck out … Mesa doubled, stole a base, scored a run, and walked

RHP Cory Wade: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 5/0 GB/FB — 16 of 24 pitches were strikes (67%)

RHP Kelvin Perez: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 0/2 GB/FB — 23 of 37 pitches were strikes (62%)
RHP Mark Montgomery: 1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 0/1 GB/FB — 18 of 24 pitches were strikes (75%), and it sounds like he’s going to be staying with the Thunder for the rest of the season
