Game 14: Fenway

Posted by: | Comments (256)

Hope the Yankees score 100 runs today to celebrate. (AP Photo/Michael Dwyer)

It’s just another game for the Yankees, but it’s a historic day for the Red Sox. Fenway Park, home to so many memorable Yankees moments, turns 100 years old today. The Sox will have basically every living Red Sox player in the ballpark and on the field for a pre-game ceremony, though apparently Theo Epstein didn’t get an invite. The guy only delivered their first two World Championships in a lifetime, I’m sure the Fenway faithful didn’t want to give him a hand anyway. Seriously, the Sox have never really been great at public relations.

Anyway, the Yankees will lend a hand in the festivities by wearing 1912 throwback uniforms, the same get-ups they wore when the place opened. There are no numbers on the back, so you better know your Yankees by their mannerisms. Here’s the starting lineup…

SS Derek Jeter
CF Curtis Granderson
DH Alex Rodriguez
2B Robinson Cano
1B Mark Teixeira
RF Nick Swisher
LF Raul Ibanezwould have preferred Andruw Jones in left with the wall
3B Eric Chavez
Russell Martin

RHP Ivan Nova

Looking for a big outing out of Nova today, quality innings and lots of ‘em. The game is tentatively scheduled to start at 3:15pm ET and can be seen on YES locally and MLB Network nationally. We’re going to chat during the game, so join the fun after the jump.

Game One: Opening Day

Posted by: | Comments (359)

This offseason seemed to be a little longer than usual, perhaps because the Yankees got knocked out of the playoffs a little earlier than expected. Or maybe it’s because they didn’t get down to any serious hot stove business until the middle of January. Either way, it’s all in the past now. Baseball’s back.

The Yankees open the 2012 regular season at their home away from home today: Tampa, Florida. They didn’t even have to travel after Spring Training ended two days ago. The lineup is relatively unchanged but the pitching staff certainly is, we’re just not going to get to see it this afternoon. CC Sabathia is on the bump for his seventh consecutive Opening Day start and fourth as a Yankee. Here is your lineup…

SS Derek Jeter
CF Curtis Granderson
2B Robinson Cano
3B Alex Rodriguez
1B Mark Teixeira
RF Nick Swisher
DH Raul Ibanez
C Russell Martin
LF Brett Gardner

LHP CC Sabathia

Today’s game starts at 3:10pm ET and can be seen on YES locally or MLB Network nationally. We’re going to chat for the first few innings, so join in the fun after the jump.

ST Game Thread: Number Two Starter

Posted by: | Comments (5)

(REUTERS/Steve Nesius)

The writing had been on the wall all Spring Training, but yesterday Joe Girardi officially announced that Hiroki Kuroda will start the second game of the regular season behind CC Sabathia. The veteran right-hander has flown completely under the radar since joining the Yankees, but that will happen when you sign the same day the team trades Jesus Montero for Michael Pineda. Kuroda has been just as advertised so far, quietly effective and reliable. Can’t wait to see him in a game that matters. Here’s the lineup…

SS Eduardo Nunez
2B Robinson Cano
1B Mark Teixeira
DH Raul Ibanez
3B Eric Chavez
C Francisco Cervelli
CF Dewayne Wise
RF Chris Dickerson
LF Justin Maxwell

RHP Hiroki Kuroda

Available Pitchers: RHP Cory Wade, RHP Adam Warren, RHP George Kontos, LHP Juan Cedeno, LHP Cesar Cabral, RHP Cory Arbiso, RHP Ryan Flannery, and SwP Pat Venditte.

Available Position Players: C Gus Molina, 1B Addison Maruszak, 2B Jayson Nix, SS Doug Bernier, 3B Bill Hall, and LF Tyler Austin will replace the starters. C Mitch Abeita, IF Walt Ibarra, SS Cito Culver, and OF Abe Almonte also made the trip and are available if needed.

Today’s game starts at 1:05pm ET and can be seen on ESPN. We’re going to chat for the first few innings of today’s game, so join in the fun after the jump.

ST Game Thread(s): Split Squad

Posted by: | Comments (7)

(REUTERS/Steve Nesius)

Only in Spring Training could one team play two games in two different cities at the same time. Half of the Yankees are at the home base in Tampa to take on the Twins while the other half is a few miles up the road in Clearwater to face the Phillies. Eighteen innings of Yankees baseball squeezed into three hours. Should be fun. Here are your lineups…

Home vs. Twins
SS Derek Jeter
CF Curtis Granderson
1B Mark Teixeira
3B Alex Rodriguez
C Russell Martin
DH Andruw Jones
2B Eduardo Nunez
LF Bill Hall
RF Justin Maxwell

RHP Ivan Nova

Available Pitchers: RHP Mariano Rivera, RHP Rafael Soriano, LHP Boone Logan, LHP Clay Rapada, LHP Juan Cedeno, RHP Kelvin Perez, LHP Kramer Sneed, and LHP Rigoberto Arrebato are all available if needed.

Available Position Players: C Gus Molina, 1B Jorge Vazquez, 2B Walt Ibarra, SS Ramiro Pena, 3B Jayson Nix, CF Mason Williams, and RF Dan Brewer will replace the starters. C Kyle Higashioka, IF Ronnie Mustelier, and OF Eduardo Sosa are available if needed.

Road @ Phillies
LF Brett Gardner
C Frankie Cervelli
2B Robinson Cano
1B Eric Chavez
3B Brandon Laird
RF Chris Dickerson
CF Dewayne Wise
DH Colin Curtis
SS Doug Bernier

RHP Hiroki Kuroda

Available Pitchers: LHP Mike O’Connor, RHP Ryan Pope, RHP Ryan Flannery, LHP Vidal Nuno, RHP Chase Whitley, and RHP Mariel Checo all made the trip and are available. RHP David Phelps was scheduled to travel to Clearwater for the game, but I’m not sure if that actually happened after his wife gave birth yesterday.

Available Position Players: C Jose Gil, 1B Addison Maruszak, 2B Jose Pirela, 3B Dante Bichette Jr., and LF Cole Garner will replace the starters. C Jeff Farnham, IF Kelvin Castro, and OF Abe Almonte all made the trip and are available if needed.

Both games start at 1:05pm ET time. The home game is available on YES and both games are available on MLB.tv. MLB Network will broadcast replays of both games later on today or tomorrow morning. We’re going to try to chat through all this madness, so join in the fun after the jump.
