Dougie’s costly 0-fer
ByAs we stew and stew over last night’s loss, here’s something to chew on. Doug Mientkiewicz’s last hit was on April 5, the second game of the season. Over his last 22 plate appearances, he is 0 for 21 with 1 walk. That’s a .045 OBP. What will it take to get someone — anyone — else into his spot in the lineup?

He’s a great glove at 1st. If Melky comes around and Matsui comes back we can eat it.
He’s an average glove at best, and his fielding isn’t making up for his utter lack of hitting. How many runs a game does he save with his glove and how many runs per game is he costing the Yanks with his bat? Those numbers are not comparable.
It’s only 1 game, and it’s not like the Yanks are counting on Minky to be a big part of the offense. Plus, I have to completely disagree with you Ben that he’s an average glove at best.
Besides, it’s not like Giambi is tearing the cover off the ball and deserving of playing 1st…or hitting 5th.
Mike, It’s not one game. It’s seven. Mientkiewicz has reached based once in seven games.
