And we get to see a second one!

Sorry for the cynicism, but that was just an ugly game. I’m short on time, so let’s just go over some of the good and bad from the game.

Josh Phelps homered.

It was too little, too late.

Melky had an RBI double to tie the game

Joe left Cairo in to hit with runners on second and third.

Vizcaino didn’t let all of his inherited runners score.

Joe used him in a high leverage situation, which at this point is too risky.

Bobby Abreu homered and singled (the opposite way, no less).

Miguel Cairo: 0 for 3 with two strikeouts.

Jorge with 2 for 3 with a double and a walk.

Alex went 0 for 4 with a strikeout.

Bruney and Meyers didn’t allow a run.

Moose allowed five.

Damon struck out thrice (sorry, I squeezed all the good I could out of this game).

We allowed five runs to a team that had exactly zero players enter the game with a BA over .250 (Erstad started with a BA of .250).

We lost to a team whose best hitter is Darin Erstad.

And it goes on and on. There is no excuse for this. None.

Considering Mussina only threw 86 pitches, perhaps he really can go on short rest on Sunday night.

He won’t, but I’d entertain the possibility.

I totally agree, what a crappy loss. The Yanks are such an up and down team, it’s unbelievable.

Simply put the team needs a shake-up. Where is the sense of urgency? Where is the line in the sand that indicates this far and no further? Torre should never have been brought back after the fiasco of last year. All too often we are left to ponder why a roster with this level of talent can’t produce in big spots. Their season is on the line in the next 12 (make that 11 games), but as we have seen in the post season the intensity is not there.

It’s time for a change, it’s time for a fresh set of eyes and it’s time to take seriously the notion that Cashman a good business manager is not the man for the retooling job that needs to be done.

    Joseph M take your meds….

125 games to go, no I am not in fantasy land, they are playing bad..

firing torre and cashman do nothing to help them, I got a solution to there problem, tell the players to play up to there ability.

    How does that sound???

Moose is a decent pitcher who always has a logical excuse when he falls short, which is about 45 % of the time…..

No Torre would mean no Clemens. No, Clemens isn’t going to play 2nd or RF, but the Yanks can only benefit from having him.

125 games is a lot, but their deficit behind Boston is large. It’s too early to give up, but things look bad to win the division, no matter how well the Yankees play from here on out. They will need a lot of good fortune. The wild card is always still a good possibility.

Things look pretty bad at the moment, but a lot of games are left and this team could get hot and play .750 ball for a month and be right back in it. They are capable, even if they currently don’t look it.
