Daily News: Giambi failed amphetamines test

By

Much like Barry Bonds before, Jason Giambi, according to reports in today’s Daily News, failed an amphetamines test last year. With the recent controversy over his comments in U.S.A. Today, this revelation means either Giambi was apologizing for failing this speed test or he’s in more trouble than we first thought. Meanwhile, yesterday, Joe Sheehan at Baseball Prospectus, in a piece viewable for everyone, issued an eloquent appeal to MLB to leave the past in the past. Only time will tell what Giambi’s future on the Yanks or in baseball holds.

Update by Joe P.: I wanted to put this up yesterday, but I was running out the door when I heard it. Peter Gammons is reporting that the Daily News report isn’t necessarily true. Then again, since it was an unconfirmed report in the first place, we should have just assumed that.

Cashman needs to make some moves.. small moves any moves try to shake this up.. try to move farnsworth, vizciano, and other marginal players. I know it is not much but they need to change things badly…

    trade, designate for assignment etc………

I don’t think it’s anything more than the commissioner’s office firing back at Giambi for his comments last week. I think they leaked this story to put the steroid issue back on Giambi’s shoulders if he wants to go public.

I just read about Giambi over at Highbrid Nation and the writer over there really put things in perspective for me. The media has really blew the whole “performance enhancing drug” thing out of proportion. Seriously, I’m not saying its ok to use these drugs but can we please stop acting like these drugs give athletes some kind of super human advantage over thier peers.
