Monday is Hughesday

By Joseph Pawlikowski

Sorry for the headline.

There has been a rumor floating around the Internets regarding Phil Hughes making a rehab start on Monday. Pete Abraham confirms that today. It’ll be at Tampa, and you can be sure you’ll hear plenty about it.

Normally, I wouldn’t double-dip from Pete, but to us, this is very important news.

A return shortly after the ASB would be HUGHE.

The cool part is that they won’t have to watch his inning count in the second half thanks to all the time off. They can leave him out there for 7 or 8 innings a start if need be, and that could be HUGHE come a Sept. playoff push.

NYFan50 says:

That will be interesting to see. Given that he pitched 5 per start last year, I wonder if they will think that going to 7 or 8 per game (despite lack of innings) is too high a workload since the pitches per game is going to be such a significant jump up.

Man, I can’t wait to get him back on the Stadium mound, regardless of how many innings they let him pitch.
