Box seats suck! Box seats suck!

I’m trying to fill in for Mike while he goes through the wedding hoopla. Thing is, I’m headed out for vacation on Thursday. Funny how things work: Mike leaves San Diego for his honeymoon as I fly in for vacation. And Ben’s out in Cali on a stadium tour. You can’t make this up.

Anyway, onto the scores.

Triple-A Scranton (12-1 win over Indianapolis – beat this fat fuck)
Brett Gardner: 3 for 6, 1 3B, 1 K, 3 RBI – too bad we already have two center fielders in the Bronx
Justin Christian: 2 for 5
Angel Chavez: 2 for 5, 1 2B, 1 RBI – .313/.354/.468 for the season, .366 with 2 doubles and 2 homers in his last 10 games
Eric Duncan: 0 for 3 – le sigh
Chase Wright: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 7 BB, 3 K – 7 walks?!? He now has more walks than strikeouts in AAA – 38-42
TJ Beam: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 K – betcha he’s up in August

Double-A Trenton (6-3 win over Binghamton)
The Attorney General: 0 for 3, 1 BB – .300/.362/.400 in 60 AB for Trenton
Juan Miranda: 0 for 3, 1 BB – played first base instead of…
Cody Ehlers: 3 for 4, 3 2B
Jeff Karstens: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K – helloooooo long reliever
Brett Smith: 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K – yeah, so about starters coming in for relief work…
Scott Patterson: 2 IP, bunch of zeros, 4 K

High-A Tampa (8-3 win over Jupiter)
A-Jax: 1 for 4 – he’s got at least a 10-game hit streak, though the game logs don’t go back further than that
Jose Tabata: 1 for 4
Marcos Vechionacci: 1 for 3
Frankie Cervelli: 3 for 3 – looks like some time off was good for him
Anthony Claggett: 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 0 K – why is he starting still?
Zach Kroenke: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K – 0.32 ERA since being demoted

High-A Tampa (another 8-2 win over Jupiter)

Short Season Staten Island (9-6 win over Mahoning Valley)
Justin Snyder: 2 for 4

Jose Gil: 2 for 5, 2 2B – bringing his average up to .204…
Dave Williams: 0 for 5, 3K – say it ain’t so, Dave. David DeJesus wouldn’t have done that
Ryan Zink: 5 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB 0 K — 14-11 K/BB ratio in Staten Island

Rookie GCL Yankees (13-1 win over GCL Braves – beat this familiar face, who only went .2 innings. Injury perhaps?)
Gary Gattis: 2 for 3, 1 K – isn’t 22 too old for the GCL?
Prilys Cuello: 2 for 4, HR
Jesus Montero: 1 for 1, 1 BB – looks like he’s playing half games. split with…
Ben Blumenthal: 0 for 0, 2 BB – okay, 24 is way too old for the GCL

If 22 is old for GCL, 37 year-old Sturtze is like a grandfather. His wikipedia page says the Braves transferred him to the 60-day DL in May. Isn’t it a bit weird to start your rehab so low? It doesn’t appear that Sturtze is married, but he could have chidren older than most of the hitters in the GCL. That’s gotta be awkward.

On another note, Sturtze’s mlb.com page says that he has one of the lowest golf handicaps among major leaguers. So I’m sure the bum is having a good time on the gulf coast…

Chase Wright should be at Trenton, learning the craft of relief pitching. That’s his future, if any. We can all identify Trenton pitchers who should be moved up to take his place at Scranton.

I think Jackson was in Tampa for 18 games. He has a hit in all but 1 of them.

I agree with Scott, basically “skipping” AA has not workrd out for CHASE- @ this point you could make strong arguments for Horne or JoBA or Kennedy @ AAA…. I know Horne got roughed up his last start but the two months before that he was brilliant- if he was in AAA in June he might be ready for an emergency spot start— instead we Have K Igawa & Mighty Matt— nice kid, smart as all hell, be Matt is a middle relief AAAA type of guy— BA wrote a month ago they felt Horne had the juice to be an effective mid season call up… oh well

At what point do we at least have Christian or Brett on the Bench? Do you think if it was Gardner pinch running instead of Ciaro that he woulda been thrown out at home???

why is Kevin Thompson there if you can’t bring him in to steal a base? Isn’t Brett the fastest guy in the system(other than Abe Almonte)?

I know, Sept call ups, but the division and the wildcard -the hardest games are in Aug, we need all hands on deck
