Game 82: Hahaha, nice one Girardi

By Mike Axisa

1. Damon, LF
2. Jeter, SS
3. A-Rod, 3B
4. Posada, 1B
5. Betemit, 2B
6. Melky, CF
7. Molina, C
8. Christian, RF
9. Rasner, SP

Okay, so where’s the real lineup Joe?

So wait, that’s really it? Let me get this straight: you’re sitting three very good lefty batters in Abreu, Giambi and a surging Robbie Cano against a mediocre southpaw in Oliver Perez, but you started them against a premium lefty in Johan Santana yesterday after they played 3 games in 3 different stadiums in a span of 48 hours. Okay cool, that makes sense.

Wait, no it doesn’t. Whatever, let’s hope Perez has one of those games.

whozat says:

Well…wouldn’t you want your A lineup against their A pitcher? Besides…Perez’s platoon split is WAY bigger than Santana’s. Perez has been much harder on lefties.

whozat says:

Though…that is a HEINOUS defensive right side of the infield.

Mike A. says:

Heh, you said “einous.”

Steve says:

Could have been worse. He could have said ‘Hiney”.

Or Hiney-ous.

DP says:

HAHA thats exactly the word I used to describe the lineup when I first saw it.

Ivan says:

Oliver Perez has given the Yankee hitters fits since he became a met. Another reason why he sit his lefties is that Perez is tougher on lefties than Santana.

I too would of sit some lefties out, like a Giambi or Cano . Personally I wouldn’t sit Abreu because he works counts and a pitcher like Perez can certainly throw alot of pitches.

I understand the descion here by Joe here. I don’t mind it.

Except Bobby is 0-10 with 4 walks lifetime against Perez.

Ivan says:

Well put it this way, I will sit two lefties but not all three.

Steve says:

This is an argument to PLAY Abreu?

The walks are a function of Perez being wild, everyone draws walks off him when he loses the strike zone. The fact that he’s 0-10 is much more telling of how comfortable he is facing him.

No, it is an argument to sit him. The person I was responding to sais he would have played Abreu. Personally, I like the decision. Cano is in a groove, but you dont want him to come up against a tough lefty and lose that, Giambi had a tough day yesterday, and Bobby cant hit Perez.

Steve says:

Sorry, I misunderstood. I happen to agree with you, look at my post a few spots down with Perez’s splits.

Chucky says:

Gotta tell you I don’t like the idea of sitting Robby right now. Looks like his bat was finally coming around, Joe should have kept him in the lineup!

marc ack says:

1st girardi keeps showing faith in farnsworthless, now look at todays lineup !?! Hope Hank fires him today!

Ben C says:

im not gonna lie.. i think cone is money in the tv booth

Steve says:

I like sitting all 3.

Giambi has always had trouble against hard throwing lefties.

Cano is just breaking out his slump, the last thing he needs is a tough lefty to screw him up again.

Abreu has yet to get a hit off Perez.

And as was mentioned earlier, Perez’s splits are pretty stark.
vs Lefties .167 BA .295 OBP .333 SLG .628 OPS
vs Righties .281 BA .394 OBP .459 SLG .853 OPS

Steve says:

Oh, and one more reason to like this lineup. We have one HELL of a bench today. I have a feeling we’ll be using it by the 5th inning.

Manimal says:

Shit why is rasner so suckish now.

Ben K. says:

The better question, Manimal, is “how was Rasner so good in May?” This is far less of a surprise than what we he did during his first four starts last month.

Manimal says:

seriously. Michael Kay just said something about his cutter being flat. If thats the case send him down for a couple of starts to work on it.

Manimal says:

I’m starting to think maybe the whole yankee team should tape their pinky and ring finger together. It works for Farnsworth…

Mike A. says:

Sorry for the technical issues folks, all should be well now.

Manimal says:

Which issues…. I didnt see anything wrong?

Mike A. says:

The site wasn’t loading for a while, but the mobile version was still working. It was down for about a half-hour on my end.

Manimal says:

Well, he got out of it somehow.

Mike A. says:

Wilson Betemit has a 66 OPS+ for his career vs LHP.

Mike A. says:

Nice at-bat there, even though he K’ed.

Manimal says:

Wow the yankees are making him look like cy young.

Jamal G. says:

You have to admit, when this dude is on, he’s on.

Mike A. says:

It doesn’t help the Yanks that the lineup is Damon-Jeter-ARod-Posada and 5 pitchers.

Manimal says:

Yeah doesnt mean the yankees have to look like the jv high school team vs the varsity team.

Jamal G. says:

Just when the Detroit Tigers were starting to get hot they get some bad news, Magglio Ordonez is going to the 15-Day DL. Over/Under at five games under .500 when he returns? I’d say over, their pitching is just horrid and now they have even less of an offense to bludgeon a team with.

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/articl.....p;c_id=mlb

Jamal G. says:

Oliver Perez hit 96-MPH in this AB to Melky Cabrera, yeah, this is not looking fun.

Captain Wiley says:

Horne didn’t make it through the first. Hopefully Mr Jennings will tell us shortly that it was just a bad outing.

Jamal G. says:

I’ll watch the game, see if the broadcasters say anything.

Mike A. says:

32 pitches, 12 strikes. Yanks have a rule that the pitcher leaves the game if he tops 30 pitches in an inning.

Manimal says:

Chad said he was shaking his hand every pitch.

Mike A. says:

That’s not good. Hopefully he was still getting good velocity on his pitches.

Loss fo Control = elbow, loss of velocity = shoulder.

Jamal G. says:

Radio broadcaster did say he left the game due to an injury, he did not specify.

Ivan says:

Mike A. says:

Kay: “Then the rains came. For a while it looked like they were going to pair up animals in Pittsburgh”

30 seconds of silence

Singleton: “Heh”

Ivan says:

I can live with Rasner walking Reyes and getting to Castillo.

Newman says:

Are we really already committing Rasner to a start against Boston? I guess there’s literally no one else that can start – Karstens? Ugh

Manimal says:

He has done well past couple of starts.

Mike A. says:

Against Josh Beckett no less. At least he’s got a 5.87 ERA in 10 career starts vs the Yanks.

Manimal says:

Does that include the playoffs?

Jamal G. says:

Outside of those two games we’ve pretty much been a thorn in that dude’s side.

Mike A. says:

I doubt it. I got the info from B-Ref’s splits.

Friday’s game isn’t a playoff game though, is it? ;)

Ivan says:

Please Rass don’t walk Castillo

Mike A. says:

Well that ball wasn’t exactly tattooed. Nice range by Jeter though.

Manimal says:

betemit is an idiot, what the hell is jeter doing fielding a ball on the right side of the infield.

Joe says:

Ivan says:

Betemit is a not a idiot, is just that he has minimal range.

Ivan says:

The only way Castillo gets hits

Newman says:

Anyone else notice the Snigh broadcast is a full pitch ahead of the YES?

Manimal says:

areyou serious? Check TBS too.

Mike A. says:

Really, they’re almost synced up for me. YES is a little behind, but not a full pitch.

Mike A. says:

Nice job limiting the damage. Let’s try to actually get a baserunner against Perez now.

Manimal says:

rasner needs to sit in a video room and see what is happening. What is different from his first couple of starts and now.

Newman says:

It’s easy, the league has caught up to him combined with the fact that he’s not good. You don’t need to go to the video room, that’s the answer

Yankeejim says:

Am I the only one that wants them to get Sidney Ponson away from Chamberlain?

Mike A. says:

Maybe Joba’s mentoring him.

LiveFromNewYork says:

Joba’s saying Sidney there is a high rate of alcoholism on the reservation and I managed to rise above it. You can beat this thing bro. Stop being fat drunki and stupid, son.

Mike A. says:

25 strikes, 9 balls for Perez? Oof.

Jamal G. says:

Brett Gardner was out by a step on a chopper to the third basemen…he was playing on the grass.

ansky says:

this is the same perez mets fans see every five days right?
cuz i could have sworn he was posting a 6+ ERA

Jamal G. says:

No, he is very inconsistent. He has games like this then follows them up with games like he had vs. the M’s. That’s the reason why Mets fans hate him so much.

E-ROC says:

This dope is no-hitting the Yankees.

Mike A. says:

Chill out, it’s the third inning of a 1-0 game. It’s far from over.

E-ROC says:

I know. Just a little annoyed because I have an End of Course project due today.

Mike A. says:

Man am I glad those days are over.

Mike A. says:

You know, before the season started I predicted that Oliver Perez would throw the first no-hitter in Mets’ history this year. I figured it would be one of those 9 IP, 0 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 8 BB, 9 K jobs.

Jamal G. says:

Guess we can’t be too mad about that Tuesday loss to Tom Gorzelanny, he’s pulling that same Houdini shit in the first two innings against Tampa Bay.

Newman says:

Ivan says:

Smart pithing by Rasner. Delgado cannot handle pitches inside. I mean go away from him. attack inside.

Joe says:

FRom the the Ohhhhhh Shhhhiiitttit department Alan Horne left after 2/3 innings, he gave up 3 walks and a hit, but it looks like an injury

Jamal G. says:

It seems this strike-zone hasn’t gotten any wider from yesterday.

Mike A. says:

Looks like we might get a little D-Rob action today.

E-ROC says:

One of the best things about the NL is pitching against the pitcher.

Joey says:

when you’re the ones pitching against the pitcher. It sucks when it’s your man up at the plate

E-ROC says:

Perez to Damon: OWNED!

Mike A. says:

Here we go, the wheels are coming off…

ansky says:

lets jump on this, make him sweat.

Jamal G. says:

Right in the Danilo Gallinari!

E-ROC says:

Sweet God, why couldn’t that be fair?!!!!!!!!

Ben C says:

pouring in hoboken again — lost the directv signal AGAIN

ansky says:

ah the dish, not waterproof.

BigBlueAL says:

Man TBS showed the sky over Shea, it looks like its gonna fuckin pour huh…

Newman says:

We could use a long rain delay here. Get Olly out of the game and then put an actual lineup together

BigBlueAL says:

Dont know if anyone here gives a shit but Germany-Spain about to start….

Mike A. says:

Brian from the The College Baseball Blog is live blogging it:

http://www.epiccarnival.com/20.....spain.html

Jamal G. says:

Are they really going to play through this?

E-ROC says:

Ump crew probably just want them to complete the inning.

E-ROC says:

Nevermind, I guess they will play through it.

Mike A. says:

WTF, it’s not raining at all here at the top of the island.

Mike A. says:

Okay, there it is.

Jamal G. says:

Darrell Rasner is doing just enough, the mistake pitch to Carlos Delgado is the only thing you can really get too hung up over.

Mike A. says:

Yeah, so I just went thru the gamelogs of Keith Hernandez’s first 6 seasons in the bigs, he never had a 4 strikeout game, let alone one against Tom Seaver as a 20 year old where the final K came on a 3-2 curveball with the bases loaded.

Say no to drugs kids.

BigBlueAL says:

Sounds like a chapter that shouldve been in Rob Neyer’s Big Book of Baseball Legends.

E-ROC says:

how long has Betemit been wearing glasses?

JeffG says:

Since he went down to AAA with pink eye. Think he needs a better prescription though.

BigBlueAL says:

Was curious what you guys think but when do you think IPK will be back in the Yankees rotation?? Ive been one who has ripped him alot this season but it is pretty obvious there is no real reason to keep him in the minors much longer (once he is fully healthy and stretched back out) since he really does dominate minor league hitters. Considering Rasner and Ponson are in the rotation now even I would rather have IPK starting and hoping he bounces back and at least pitches decent the rest of the way for the Yankees. Of course if he comes back up and continues to suck……

Mike A. says:

I’d say August. Of course they might make a trade for a starter by then.

BigBlueAL says:

Might?? More like they better make a trade for a starter by then. Whatever the case believe it or not I am looking forward to seeing IPK back in the roation and hoping he does pitch better at the least.

Mike A. says:

It’s a good thing Girardi started all the lesser players against Perez today, it’s working out well.

Jamal G. says:

Wow, where has the professionalism gone in broadcasting? Gary Cohen said how Roger Clemens though it was the ball when they were talking about when Clemens threw the broken bat at Mike Piazza. This is what followed:

Keith Hernandez: “Well, was he under oath?”
Gary Cohen: “Does it matter?”

*Silence*

Honestly, what the fuck was that about?

Mike A. says:

Yeah, I heard that. It’s called “envy.”

Mike A. says:

And by “envy,” I mean “jealousy.” Duh.

Newman says:

Are you really getting upset about that? They’re Met announcers plus there’s no excuse for what Clemens did, other than his roid rage acting up. How is throwing a ball at a player any better than throwing a bat?

Jamal G. says:

I’m upset that as a professional broadcaster Mr. Cohen let his emotions get the better of him and basically called Roger Clemens a liar and said he lied under enough with zero fucking evidence other than his own opinion.

BigBlueAL says:

Newman says:

Moeller PH’ing, wow

Mike A. says:

Hah, some dude just took as ass to the face on that last foul ball down the RF line.

Jamal G. says:

LoL, being a Catcher sucks.

BigBlueAL says:

Oh man, the TBS announcers (Chip Caray, Ron Darling) are debating the Joba switch now and naturally both are saying he shouldve stayed in the bullpen.

Jamal G. says:

Details please, idiocy entertains me.

BigBlueAL says:

Well the rest of the season Joba will start maybe 22 times (which is of course alot more than he will start) but as a reliever he could pitch 45 to 50 times and therefore have a greater impact. Ron Darling did say towards the end of the debate that the Yankees did bring him up through the minors as a starter and have always envisioned him as a #1 type starter, but then both said if that was the case he shouldve began the season as a starter and not a reliever. Same old Same old….

E-ROC says:

Dominates the 8th inning.
Don’t have to worry about the 8th inning with Joba back there.
It’s tough to find 8th inning guys who that dominate.
If the Yanks wanted him to be a starter, why didn’t the Yanks make him a starter at the beginning of the season.

I think there are some others but don’t remember.

Ivan says:

Why can’t they just give up.

Mike A. says:

Well, as a starter he’s only a 6, 6+ inning pitcher, so maybe they have a point.

Mike A. says:

Hah! Nice job by Elias calling out Keith Hernandez on his 4 K thing.

Jamal G. says:

It must be a scary moment for Keith Hernandez when he was just outed on TV of vividly remembering something that never occurred.

Mike A. says:

Ras settling down.

Jamal G. says:

David Robertson due to pitch in the bottom of the sixth!

Jamal G. says:

Lmao, SNY just showed a shot of the YES announcers and Michael Kay looks pissed as hell.

Ben C says:

NEVER GET DIRECTV

BigBlueAL says:

Sounds like a Comcast commercial.

Newman says:

Thought that was gone

Mike A. says:

Wow, how is Damon not on second?

E-ROC says:

Why couldn’t Shea Stadium be like Yankee stadium? Moeller’s fly ball out would’ve been a a homerun.

Ivan says:

Well that out tells us were not gonna win this game.

PS: is a play that is more overrated than the Endy chavez catch. You guys lost the fucking game.

Jamal G. says:

I think it just speaks volume of the organization, it is talked about like the greatest play in October history for the Mets and yet they lost the game.

Newman says:

I don’t know how you can possibly say that the catch itself is overrated. That was one of the best plays I’ve ever seen easily, especially given the situation. Just bc the Mets lost that game doesn’t mean that play wasn’t unbelievably amazing

Mike A. says:

Agreed, but they treat it like it’s some sacred play that singlehandedly saved the game, like Jeter’s flip or something.

Mike A. says:

On a HR by Yadier Molina and his 74 career OPS+.

Mike A. says:

Even with 2 outs, Jeter hits a perfect GIDP ball. Man is this guy consistent, or what?

Jamal G. says:

Is there anything worse than seeing Michael Bourn up with a runner on second base with one out?

Ivan says:
Mike A. says:

My 10yr old brother looks more physically mature.

Jamal G. says:

Gary Cohen: “He [David Robertson] looks about 14-years-old.”

That Curveball is going to make Jose Reyes look like he’s 14-years-old. Zing!

Mike A. says:

Nice job putting Perez on his ass.

Jamal G. says:

Damn, not even Reggie Miller can flop like that!

BigBlueAL says:

Fuckin Reggie Miller. I remember a play when he was right up on Allan Houston who swung the ball over his head and Miller just collapsed making it seem like he got elbowed in the face. Naturally an offensive foul was called, Houston stood there shocked (but naturally didnt say a word to the ref) and NBC showed a replay and Houston’s elbow was a foot from hitting Miller’s face. Fuckin Reggie Miller….

Mike A. says:

Goodness, Joba looks like a giant on the mound compared to Robertson.

Mike A. says:

Command’s not there yet for Robertson. Nerves could certainly be a factor.

Ivan says:

Robertson Lincecum about the same size.

Mike A. says:

Yes, but Lincecum’s a freak.

Jamal G. says:

Luis Castillo’s swing lacks testosterone.

Mike A. says:

Or talent. Only 3 years left on that deal.

ansky says:

getting pretty close to watching Germ/Esp at this point.

BigBlueAL says:

Shit Spain scored a goal and I missed it. Did see Torres head one off the post earlier.

Mike A. says:

Why does Jurassic Park have to be on tonight? I was really really really looking forward to sitting on my ass for 2 hours with the Simpson, King of the Hill, Family Guy and American Dad tonight. Bah.

Jamal G. says:

Go see “Wanted”, better than advertised.

Mike A. says:

I forget the name of the movie we watched last night. Will Ferrell flick, but not his typical “I’m a mentally retarded, yet somehow successful professional athlete” work. Something about him being a character in a book. Dustin Hoffman and Queen Latifah were in it too. Good shit.

Mike A. says:

Stranger than Fiction, that’s it.

Jamal G. says:

Yeah, I loved that movie. I hope Will Ferrell isn’t looked upon as another Jim Carrey, great talent that is wasted in those silly (albeit hilarious) comedies. Still can’t believe Carrey didn’t get an Oscar for “The Truman Show”.

Ivan says:

Not a bad inning for Robertson.

Mike A. says:

Nope, first career appearance. Always give’em a mulligan.

Jamal G. says:

I’m not watching the game on YES but I bet you Michael Kay said “That’s a Home Run in a missile silo!”

Mike A. says:

Why is Keith Hernandez saying Justin Timberlake is hot?

huuz says:

not good, either.

took 9 pitches to get the pitcher. then fell behind everybody. WP = run scored.

i’m not giving up, but that wasn’t reassuring…especially since control (meaning BBs) was his problem in the minors (especially AAA). he threw a lot of balls that inning. 15 strikes/10 balls.

Mike A. says:

Swing hard in case you hit it.

Ivan says:

Damn That ball was crush by Betemit.

E-ROC says:

HOLY SHIT!!! Go Betemit!

Newman says:

Wow that was a bomb

Ivan says:

Man Delgado suck at first.

Mike A. says:

Unfortunately, that’s the only way Melky gets to second base these days.

E-ROC says:

TheLastClown says:

It is about time!! On the exact 100th pitch, wonderful

I love to see Betemit do something other than scratch himself with his right handed bat…

BigBlueAL says:

E-6??? That should be an error on Delgado.

ansky says:

wow the second i changed from stupid tbsHD to wpix…i mean CW….we get some goodness going. I guess digh def aint worth it now

The Fallen Phoenix says:

“Hot damn” indeed, A-Rod! Wilson hit that a mile.

And people wonder why the Yankees carry him as a bench player. How many teams in all of baseball can pull that kind of power of the bench?

Ivan says:

Molina sure is doing Perez a favor swing at those pitches.

Smitt Dog says:

Molinas really really bad

Mike A. says:

Trenton is doing what they do best – pwning the Red Sox’s best prospects.

TheLastClown says:

Question: Does Girardi PH Abreu leading off the 8th?

I’m positive he would’ve if Molina gets on, but now?

Jamal G. says:

Evan Longoria can really play some third base, wow.

Mike A. says:

Longoria > Wright by 2010. You watch.

TheLastClown says:

Longoria = better than Wright by 2010

ansky says:

i think thats what the “>” implied.

Mike A. says:

Isn’t that what I just said?

TheLastClown says:

Yeah Mike, I wasn’t a good math student :)

Mike A. says:

Bah, math is for rich people.

Jamal G. says:

Will Howie Kendrick ever develop power or does he just lack that tool completely?

Mike A. says:

He’ll never hit 20 homers, but he’ll win a batting title or two.

Jamal G. says:

That hammer was sick, made my knees buckle.

Mike A. says:

Oof. I thought Delgado was going to get rung up on that 0-2 yakker.

Ivan says:

Robertson gets out the inning. Already he’s better than Hawkins.

Mike A. says:

Much better inning for Robertson that time around. Church hit a legit single, Chavez slapped a blooper that just so happened to land fair.

huuz says:

better 2nd inning for Robertson.

at least he challenged the hitters. much better than nibbling at the corners and falling behind.

Ivan says:

That probably atributed to nerves.

Jamal G. says:

Keith Hernandez with Brian Schneider up: “The Yanks have no LHP in their bullpen (with the smuggest of voice tones possible)”

4-6-3 Double-play ensues. It is overrated people, when will they realize this?

Ivan says:

Abreu would probably start the inning off.

TheLastClown says:

But of course Christian is a better hitter, because he’s RH

Mike A. says:

Girardi is saving Abreu for their right handed closer I bet.

Ivan says:

If Justin gets on, Giambi is up. If not, use Abreu to see if he can get on base.

Mike A. says:

Giambi has a much better chance of getting on base than Abreu.

Ivan says:

I wanna use Giambi with runners on base.

Jamal G. says:

I like how Keith Hernandez constantly admits he never pays attention while he’s on-air.

E-ROC says:

Since when does Giambi swing at the first pitch?

Mike A. says:
Jamal G. says:

No day off until next Monday, can’t run Jose Veras out there again when he more than likely will be needed for tomorrow’s games versus the Rangers because Moose is usually expected to give you just about six innings. Same reasoning for not going to Kyle Farnsworth.

Mike A. says:

We’ll be lucky if we get 6 out of Moose tomorrow. That Texas team can hit the snot out of the ball.

Ivan says:

but they can’t pitch

Jamal G. says:

All three of their starters for the upcoming series have ERAs this season north of five.

Mike A. says:

Wow Snigh, thanks for telling me that the Mets’ bullpen has performed much better in wins than it has in losses. I never would have guessed.

That’s almost as dumb as the time Michael Kay was obsessing over how much lower CMW’s ERA was when there were no runners on base compared to when he had runners on.

Jamal G. says:

Neither of those is as dumb as Tim McCarver being “shocked” that more runs score in an inning that is led off with a HR than a BB. FJM had a great piece on that.

TheLastClown says:

Edwar’s locating the fastball…ergo the change is making ‘em look stupid

Jamal G. says:

The Red Sox sure do have a lot of guys with PMS issues. Josh Beckett pounding bats in the dugout just now in conjunction with Kevin Youkilis crying over anything, Dustin Pedroia throwing his bat after being owned by Phil Hughes and Jonathan Papelbon…well, being Jonathan Papelbon.

Mike A. says:

No no no, that’s called being “gritty.” It’s only called being “whiny” when overpaid Yankees do shit like that.

Ivan says:

Yanks 1-33 trailing after 8. Isn’t that a useless stat.

Jamal G. says:

Capt’MMMMMMMMMMMMM!

ansky says:

oh boy i love billy. keep chucking em in the dirt, son

Jamal G. says:

I thought he had that one, fuck.

Ivan says:

Ben C says:

a-rod pisses me off sometimes, he goes after the homerun every time when just a single wouldve been huge

Jamal G. says:

Steve Phillips couldn’t have said it any better.

E-ROC says:

R u serious? He just missed a pitch that he usually hammers. Nothing wrong with that.

Mike A. says:

Juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust missed.

Ivan says:

Just hasn’t been our day.

Mike A. says:

Steal third Jeter.

ansky says:

damnit, bad series for Jorge.

Ben C says:

YOU GOTTA SWING THE BAT

ansky says:

fuck.

I guess a split is better than nothing.

BigBlueAL says:

Yankees score only 1 run and lose 3-1. Didnt see this coming with that lineup the Yankees put out today…..

TheLastClown says:

Jamal G. says:

Did Darrell Rasner pitch well enough to take solace in this outing that he’s on an upswing?

TheLastClown says:

I don’t think so. 5IP 3K 3BB?

I just think he’s being Darrell Rasner, and if he is on an upswing, we need a new SP

christopher says:

he is a crap pitcher plain and simple – remember that he gave up 3 runs to an NL line-up…have you seen the 3-5 staters on most NL teams that are puting up good numbers?

Never thought i would miss sheffield’s bat. not only does this team need a stater but they desperatly need an impact righty bat – with jeter hitting like omar vizquel the only guy a lefty need fear is is AROD, but we know our good ol GM wont trade any of the 20 minor league pitchers with trade value because 2 of the 20 may actually help the big league club 5 years from now

raymagnetic says:

How many runs did their crap lineup score on Friday? Rasner is a 4th/5th starter, I’m not exactly sure what you’re expecting from him, but perhaps you should lower your expectations.

TheLastClown says:

Wesley Wright strikes out Pedroia, or as the Houston announcers just called him, Ty Cobb…

With the bases loaded in the 6th & a one run lead

How sweet it is

Jamal G. says:

ROFLMAO, Dustin Pedroia was talking shit after he struck-out with the bases juiced and the Astros’ Catcher (I think it was Humberto Quintero, but Pedroia looked like he was talking in direction of LHP Wesley Wright) pumped his fist in celebration. That little girl is so adorable with his little temper tantrums.

Lanny says:

This team will not win anything sending guys like Rasner, Giese, And Ponson out there at the back end.

Jamal G. says:

You are blaming Darrell Rasner for today’s loss? I thought it was pretty clear that Oliver Perez was just on his game today.

Hideki Okajima allows an inherited runner to score…gasp!

Mike A. says:

Did Kevin Youkilis complain?

A-Point says:

Perez wasnt’ on his game, Girardi gave hims a win by putting an inferior team on the field.

Rasner isn’t good either, but Girardi puts grappy lineups out when he doesn’t like certain pitchers. Girardi is more at fault than anyone else though, as he makes up these stupid line ups.

I can’t wait till Girardi is gone.

Stryker says:

better have patience! he’s in the pinstripes for at least another 2 years.

AndrewYF says:

I really don’t understand Girardi’s thinking on this lineup. Giambi and Cano actually hit lefties better than they hit righties. Isn’t Girardi supposed to be the guy who knows this kind of stuff? I love him, but throwing away this game was just dumb. And playing Betemit over Cano, when Cano has got a nice hot streak going, is really stupid. Nevermind that Betemit was the offense today.

christopher says:

their stats against lefties are scewed because they often sit against the tougher ones – yesterday notwithstanding.

you cant always rely on stats – the can be decieving

brokensoul says:

Am i the only person who see’s this? the yanks have had a tough couple of days with the delay flight and the double header and yesterdays matchup against Santana we have a tough schedule against Texas and Boston coming up and Abreu, Giambi and cano have not have any rest lately, im sure if yesterdays pitcher wasnt santana they would have gotten the day off yesterday , top that with the fact that the yanks won 2 of 3 on the series already and a left in perez pitching i dont see nothing wrong with giving those players a day off

people need to stip crying about 1 game and start looking at the whole picture

Jamal G. says:

I agree, this 162-one game series mentality seems to be a bit too popular these days.

LiveFromNewYork says:

I agree. Girardi knows his players. He knows the schedule. It’s been tough. They need a day off. Stop freaking crying.

christopher says:

this team is going nowhere this season – cant even take a series from the joke that is the muts

the rays ae for real and much better than the yankees. a team with 3 lefty DHs and no righty power outside of AROD and a piece meal rotation just isnt going to get it done and the offense is finally showing its age and cant put togethe any consistantcy.

raymagnetic says:

The Yankees did take the series from the Mets. The first game was a continuation from the previous series.

LiveFromNewYork says:

I am convinced that there are a lot of late 90s bandwagon jumpers we have not gotten rid of yet. Did any of you live through the 80s as a Yankee fan? Do any of you even enjoy baseball just for the game? I’m so sick of it.

Realist says:

My earliest Yankee memories were the lean years prior to the ‘76 sweep by the Big Red Machine, in the World Series………….

That said, I have seen lean times in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s………….anyone who believes the team’s direction is equal to any of these, is a bandwagoner at best…..the current administration has given all Yankee fans something to be proud of since the strike shortened ‘94 season.

So back away grom the ledge…………

Rich says:

It was a typical Torre house-money lineup. Suboptimal.

Girardi will have this team on top come October. Mark my words
