Game 121: Down in a hole
ByIt’s 5:15 as I type this. I’m headed to some place, where I might get a ticket for the game. I’m also four beers deep, so I don’t feel up to commenting on the game, except that we better damn well win, and Gardner damn well better get on base at least once.
If you don’t mind, could you all sing a verse of “Sha na na na” for Melky?
Your lineup:
1. Johnny Damon, DH
2. Derek Jeter, SS
3. Bobby Abreu, RF
4. Alex Rodriguez, 3B
5. Jason Giambi, 1B
6. Xavier Nady, LF
7. Robinson Cano, 2B
8. Brett Gardner, CF
9. Jose Molina C
And on the mound, number forty-six, my favorite Yankee of the dynasty, Andy Pettitte.

Down in a hole and theyve put all
The stones in their place
Ive eaten the sun so my tongue
Has been burned of the taste
I have been guilty
Of kicking myself in the teeth
I will speak no more
Of my feelings beneath
Down in a hole, feelin so small
Down in a hole, losin my soul
Id like to fly but my
Wings have been so denied
My personal favorite Alice In Chains song, I have to say.
I wonder if Robbie cried in a “Got Melk” t-shirt today.
Anyone want to speculate on whether or not Melky will earn his way back?
They can bring him back in two weeks. It’s a “Hello Melky, how do you like me so far” riding this bus. Are you going to listen this time?
when does meachem get sent down?
heh
Hideki Matsui went 1-for-3 with a HR in his first rehab game with the Tampa Yankees. I don’t think the Yankees will make him play in Game 2 of the twin-bill tonight.
Did anybody saw on the NY post on the cover the headstone of the yanks and how our fav Geaorge King said they are dead and stuff.
Any word on when the game starts?
Matsui’s DH’ing in game 2. That’s a pretty aggressive rehab assignment. Maybe good news.
Jeter just hit into a double play in the batting cage underneath the stadium.
….And Sidney Ponson just attacked his 4th Big Mac in the clubhouse commissary
,,, And Arod just got off watching the mrs olympia competition on ESPN.
…and Cano just didn’t dive for a ball while taking grounders ha who am i kidding cano isn’t taking grounders
Why is jeter bunting.
trying for a hit … 3rd baseman seemed kinda deep
John Buck’s arm is horrific
the yankees didnt get the runner in from 2nd with no outs? no wayyyyy……
i had that typed before abreu got up
0-3 with men in scoring position already and the game is just 1 inning old.
Stellar start to the 2nd inning
Melky guns him out at home…
garner should’ve run the ball to home plate for an unassisted d.p.
Percival to DL. This is the PERFECT time for the yankees to make a run at the AL east and instead they can’t even move damon over. Damon had to move himself over to second.
X-man
swinging away?
Why isnt he bunting. What the hell.
cano do that often.
Why not bunt with Gardner?
surprise.
Girardi is a fucking fool. Now you have molina set up for a double play.
Rusty Kuntz seriously ? That’s the Royals coaches name I know this some 5th grade humor but that’s funny.
Melky, Gardner, my 8 month year old daughter no difference.
I found that out last time we played the royals. funny stuff.
nice job gardner.
Why not have Gardner bunt the runners over?
well I guess the bint wouldn’t manner much.
bunt.
Am I way off base in thinking that Nady reminds me of Tino Martinez? Professional, steady, occasionally capable of greatness, a dependable rock of a player….
Since Nady got here, I keep being reminded of how Tino used to play….
Maybe it’s just me.
I can see that. I wonder how he is in the clubhouse.
yeah I agree, he has a big swing but doesn’t lose the ability to have plate discipline and hit the ball all over the field.
Damon knows what hes doing, its just ashame the other 8/9ths of the line up doesnt.
Meche is an All-Star in the all underachieving team.
this is getting fucking ridiculous
listen to the boos. last game on 9/21 could be ugly
I was totally against bashing Joe G but I mean recently his moves have been worse than herpes, they disappear for a week and are back just like that.
It’s easy to say this but and it’s obvious but Posada not participating on this team is really been a big blow on this team. Whether the bat or leadership.
One thing that’s apparent, and maybe it’s unfair because he just got here, but it’s apparent that Pudge is no Jorge when it comes to being a team leader.
Or is that unfair…..? (Not that I care, mind you…. about the fairness.)
Why would you guys bunt with Brett Gardner? With his speed it’s unlikely he would GIDP. Also, where’s the wisdom in giving up an out with Jose Molina on-deck? I’d much rather have two chances with Brett Gardner and Jose Molina to drive in runs than giving up an out to bring Jose Molina to the plate.
Who says he gets thrown out? Hes Brett freaking Gardner. Fastest kid in our farm.
Sametric modern baseball thinking, you do have a point, but you still gotta bunt.
Runners on first and second with nobody out is the only situation I ever advocate bunting. However, when you have a hitter with a .476-OPS with a runner on third with less than two outs, you can’t bunt to bring up Jose Molina. Lastly, it’s the second inning, let the guys swing.
You really think you have a chance with Gardner up?
And what are your thoughts on Jose Molina and his .585-OPS?
Just double checking when does dolphinboy swim tonight ?
Look at that, who needs Melky when Brett’s making throws like that.
Melky Cabrera has just been rendered useless.
Melky WHO!?!?
that helped. show some life yanks!
Nice defensive inning for the G-Man. Melky would have had to dive for that ball after taking his first two steps in.
Nah Melky D is very good. To me better than Gardner.
Is that Brett Gardner or Dwight Evans out there……?
Gardner with the arm…… who woulda thunk it?
Cano just asked Brett to go to the club with him after the game.
A-Rod hit a Homer.
whos pitching tomorrow?
Ponson I think.
That is a flucky stat Kay just mention.
iight somewhat fluky
Good to see they’re trying to force it a little bit with the steals.
Can we maybe get a run in ? I’m not asking for much
A-Rod swings through a hanging curveball. A bad pitch.
0-4 with risp in 2.2 innings. LAME.
0-7*
i might have an extra ticket for tomorrow if anyone wants it
You see, that’s why I fucking hate fans sometimes. The Yanks haven’t had a hit all God Damn night w/RISP, why does A-Rod receive the loudest boos? What the fuck do they care how much money he makes? Fuck off already.
You hate yourself?
relax, the number 4 guy usually gets the loudest boos, just because its arod in NY doesnt make him deserve special treatment.
Is Michael Kay really going to recite how the Yanks are doing with RISP after each at-bat?
You damn well know he is.
He’s being a whiny bitch.
Yes, he really is. Heard he and John Flaherty were being little bitches towards Robinson Cano in Minny.
0-7 in RISP great.
Holy crap…….. what time does Phelps swim ?
garza no hitting the rangers. they left their offense at fenway
Millwood allowed 4 homers in 4.2 IP. Yikes.
Wilkins De La Rosa was filthy tonight. Six innings, five hits, 1-ER, and eight K’s (no walks).
I can always rely on you Jamal for those Wilkins De La Rosa updates.
He’s been terrific love the arm.
Hey guys what type of ceiling does Austin Romine has. I like the SR on his D specifically his arm, what about the bat? Is he in the yankee plans of the future Mke A?
Absolutely, he wasn’t a second round pick by accident. He’s got a chance to be a real good catcher for a real long time. Needs to tighten up his footwork behind the plate as well as his approach, but otherwise he’s got a very impressive all-around package behind the plate.
I like what Austin Romine brings, the only reason I bring up the plan part is that Yankee plans with Romine is pretty connected with Montero or depends on what Montero does at Catcher defensively.
In what amounts to the first of many must win games, the yanks are facing a last place team that throws a pitcher out there sporting a 4.24 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. So far these are the results on offense
1st inning
leadoff man reaches on an error (steals second)
2 hole K’s swinging
3 hole K’s swinging
4 hole walks
5 hole grounds out
2nd inning
6 hole singles
7 hole singles
8 hole K’s swinging
9 hole K’s swinging
leadoff pops out to first
3rd inning
2 hole singles (steals second)
3 hole pops out to right
4 hole K’s swinging
5 hole K’s swinging.
Its not just beating a dead horse, there’s more to it–Not only have the Yankees not gotten a hit with RISP, they haven’t advanced a runner with RISP even one base. One of the keys of the 90′s dynasty teams was the ability to make productive outs–all those guys talked about the next guy picking them up.
Granted its a small sample size in 3 innings of one game, but in a game after a day off against a hittable pitcher on a last place team at home in a game you have to win. . . and have your team go not just 0-8 with RISP, but also not move a runner up one base in those situations is atrocious. Its an 0-8 consisting of 6 swinging strikeouts and 2 pop flies. Meanwhile, the Yankees have put on 5 baserunners in 3 innings before they got a man in RISP. That’s a team made up of guys that don’t trust the other guys to pick them up.
No Mass and has a good report shall I say on the RISP stat.
We’ve got 6 Ks with RISP
Yankee killer Ross Gloat at the plate.
It seem they have given Montero the Barry Bonds treatment in tonight’s game.
For you guys wondering, Phelps is swimming at 10:10.
~2 hours left to get those draft picks signed…
Mike, what kind of player are we looking at with Garrison Lassiter?
He’s a project. Raw as raw can be. Redic bat speed which bodes well for the future, but he needs work with just about everything. Tools are there, just needs to learn to use them.
Extremely high ceiling, extremely low probability.
Could he stick at Short Stop?
everyone’s swinging for the fences tonight
Can this offense do something.
Has there ever been a player who ever hit significantly better in his team’s losses? Why the fuck is that stat used so much, it’s absolutely worthless.
Yeah I never got that either. I mean seriously, when a team wins it generally means its hitters did well, when they lose, well, it means they didn’t.
It’s the “I’m not going to look to hard to find a stat that appears meaningful” approach.
“doesn’t take a rocket science to know that one” type of stats.
Clearly Cano wants to join his boy Melky in the hot spot that is Scranton
Is Nick Johnson a FA after the season? If he is, I would really like the yanks to try get him. Yes I know he rarely stays healthy but when he is, he walks, high OBP% guy, hits a ton of doubles, has a good glove. He would really fit with the yanks.
His final year his 2009. Who knows, maybe Jim Bowden will stop asking for the moon and stars for every single player he has. I have to think Johnson’s medical records would cause his price to drop steeply.
Bowden’s as good as gone this offseason, and I bet he gets blacklisted because of the scouting scandal.
Is he the only GM that’s truly in some crap because of the current investigation?
No more 1B/DH types that have trouble staying healthy, please. I love Nicky J, but he’s too much a liability.
Jeter always says he leads by example…. I see it’s rubbing off on Cano.
Way to go, Cap’n!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes camera man Cano is running hard.
Was Gardner wearing 11 earlier in the year? I thought he had 17…
Nah, #17 was only Justin Christian and Shelley Duncan. Brett Gardner was always #11.
Ah that’s it. I remember seeing someone wear 17 after Shelley, but I forgot who.
Chicken or the egg …? Which came first, Hank’s comments giving the team up for dead, or the extreme lethargy that now seems to have overtaken this team?
I nominate Hank’s excuses as the worst moment by any owner this season….. Anyone gonna second that emotion?
I thought the media made way too big of a deal with Hank’s comments.
Well….. it’s not like Hank ever asks a reporter to put the microphone away. He’s a Steinbrenner, after all.
And in 35 years, has Big George ever offered up excuses in mid-season?
the yankee entire farm system is AAAA players, they aren’t going to sign their first 3 draft picks and people want cashman back?
Well when the first pick says he doesn’t even want to hear any offers, what do you want the Yankees to do? They believed that he was interested in turning professional and they had the bank to do so, so they picked him. Their supplemental pick is still unsigned and he’s a Scott Boras client, why in God’s name do you think he will go unsigned? Scott Bittle has shoulder issues, why would you want the Yankees to sign a player they feel has shoulder woes?
How to break your 0-30 play us
figures.
come on andy
i give up. see you at the new stadium
phelps is on any second. Hes listening to lil wayne right now to get read which means a couple more minutes.
fucking great.
I wouldn’t mind getting eliminated by Angels, but when the Royals — the ROYALS!! — are pounding nails into your coffin, that’s not good….
You know what’s so funny, people can’t read and comprehend. Either that or they just choose to fucking ignore the entire quote and focus on what they want to give off a certain perception.
What am I talking about? Well, when people got on Hank for saying he wanted Joba Chamberlain in the rotation at that moment, they suspiciously neglected to mention the end of his quote in which he stated that ‘I understand there’s a process and we can’t rush him’. For some reason nobody made mention of that, only that Hank was a blowhard who wanted Joba in the rotation at that moment and Brian Cashman was put in a tough spot.
Next was his comments on Mike Mussina. He said he should pitch like Jamie Moyer. Any asshole knows that Hank didn’t mean he should become a fucking southpaw, he meant that Moose should start pitching backwards, start changing speeds more frequently, and stop pitching off his Fastball so often. But no, people want to make him out to be a jackass so they say laugh at him and wonder if he knows Jamie Moyer is a southpaw.
Last time was these comments. He said that he’s not giving up on the season but he understands why the team is in their current place in the standings. he said that 2009 will be a dangerous year and that although 2008 is not over, he understands why the Yankees are in their state. That’s all he said, but no, people again want to bash him for only focusing on parts of his quotes and completely disregarding everything else.
Perhaps….. but is it ever a good thing for a leader to talk about weaknesses? It sends a poor message, in my opinion. If you’ve ever been in a leadership position, you know that any perecption of an excuse will allow the less-motivated members of a team to slack off. A leader has to project confidence and resolve at every turn. That’s just part of the job description.
Jeter is a fine example of that. Injuries, what injuries? Tomorrow’s another day. Do you favor Hank’s honesty over Jeter’s steadfast denial? I think Hank made a mistake, regardless of the larger context of the comments.
Holy crap moly. Michael Phelps is good at swimming.
Wow, 1/100th of a second.
Michael Phelps wins again.
Phelps won by one-hundredth of a second. Holy shit.
Wow Phelps is a absolute freak how the fuck did he win that ?
“He’s magical. He is Superman.”
His sister is hot when she’s not so damn emotional.
hahahahaha me and my bro were discussing that.
Hava Molina!
even in super duper slo-mo it looked like a tie
another risp.
Can Phelps hit ? Maybe play a little second….
Fuck that, can he pitch?
coach third? picture those long arms waving you home…
Excellent question…. And are the Chinese women gymnasts old enough to get a work permit from the State Department? I bet they can bunt and steal third like nobody’s business….
Is gardner really THAT overmatched in the majors? He K’s all the time against decent pitching. Beckett made him look like a fool and that hit vs Pap was lucky
Honestly, did we think Derek Jeter wouldn’t come through there? I’m a big opponent of that gamer and clutch crap, but I just had that feeling the Captain would come through.
Atleast we got ONE back.
What kinda bullshit is that? You’ve got to be kidding me.
the yankees season in a nutshell right there.
Seriously, fuck the camera angles. half the time they make it look like its off to Jersey.
In the fucking history of this Stadium, how many left-handed hitters get their fly balls caught a foot in front of the fence in right field? Does that EVER happen? Jesus, we can’t buy a run…..
Man, Meche has a filthy change tonight.
he does, but wouldn’t you think that after a day off the team would appear to be a little more energetic than they appear to be. it could have been the delay and the overall weather but something seems flat to me. i rarely even make that comment, but it seems pretty noticeable.
I think that flat thing can be a bit too misleading. What does it even mean? When a team is not hitting, wont they look “flat” since they are not getting on-base and you don’t seem them exert energy to run the bases? Is lack of energy really a viable reason for not getting hits? I don’t think so. They have stole a couple bases tonight, so energy is not the issue.
i didn’t say that was the reason for why they weren’t getting hits. it was just an observation and not any particular analysis of why they are down. its just an impression i had. maybe its the fact that meche is making them look that way. maybe its because the crowd is DEAD. but as a player, the flat thing does exist. there are days when you don’t have it and people are in a rush to get the game over. it may not be the case here but it definitely exists.
C’mon Yanks. Lets score some more runs.
Maybe the ghosts of Yankee Stadium have already moved across the street….
The Mariners passed on dealing Jarrod Washburn for Nick Blackburn? Really? Only thing I can think of is that the Twins were not willing to pay a majority of Washburn’s remaining contract. According to reports, the Nick Blackburn offer was only on the table for a “brief period of time”, but still, the second he was made available the M’s should have jumped on that.
I don’t know the whole story (mainly the money issue), but this seems a tad strange.
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/.....banez.html
Yeah, definitely. Hell, I would have taken Bonser.
The Mariners GM must doing acid or something since he didn’t jump at that offer. Even Washburn was pissed.
Has anyone seen so many ground rule doubles in a game? That’s what, four?
What’s the MLB record for most ground-rule doubles in one game?
Wow, he gave up a lead-off double and it was still a 5 pitch inning for Pettitte.
Can’t hit it any harder than that.
So….. who do we like, Angels over Cubs in October?
Yeah Mike, avoid the iPhone at all costs: http://www.engadget.com/2008/0.....maybe-not/
iPhone is way to over rated, ipod touch is the way to go and then get a phone that is great. Costs less than just getting a iphone and its amazingly large data plans.
Yup, that’s what I’m going to do. Going to get the iPod Touch and the HTC TouchPro. I have the T-Mobile Wing now, but that TouchPro is just gorgeous.
http://www.htc.com/www/product.aspx?id=49518
yeah I have verizon so I already got a 16 Gb ipod touch and i’m going to get either the LG Voyager or the Dare, depends on the $$$. I have a EnV right now.
forgot the Samsung Glyde in that group.
I’m intrigued by the all-in-one aspect. I do like my cushy $25 a month cell phone bills though, and I really don’t want that to shoot up to $80 a month.
gardner can’t hit offspeed its rediculous.
he can’t hit fastballs either.
somebody needs to tell brett that its ok to use your lower half in your swing.
The effort is there, the exucution/results isn’t. This is just fustrating.
9-1-2 up…. for the love of god can we score some runs
A commenter over at NoMaas says Bleich signed. I don’t see the news anywhere though.
Dont trust NoMaas.
Really? Yeah, they say some fucked up things (albeit hilarious), but their good posters know their stuff.
Cool $1M is the hot rumor.
CF is definite must to address in the offseason.
If the yankees could get their hands on Sizemore, even if it took trading Ajax+IPK+Melky or something like that, we would get that solid CF with a little pop in his bat(a leadoff hitter in the HR derby?)
Man, Ajax+IPK+Melky isn’t even in the ballpark for Sizemore. Have you seen his contract? He’s an absolute steal for the next 4 years.
He’s as close to untouchable as it gets.
Jeters foot looks fine.
No chance.
I don’t wanna sound mean or anything but, can the yanks stop playing God Bless America after the 7th inning stretch.
that freddy guy banging the pans is the only thing more annoying than watchin the yanks hit
Have you seen the Sox Pen? Thats even more annoying
With the boatload of centerfielders on the market after last season, maybe we missed the boat…. load.
haha, i think you’re right.
Why take out Mahay vs Abreu? L vs L isn’t it?
Oh crap, here comes Leo. This will not end well.
no matter what happens in this at bat i love that hillman isn’t going with that stupid lefty-lefty, righty-righty thing.
You mean what Girardi does?
exactly. i was trying to be nice about it.
Oh shit! I forgot its no sales tax weekend in MA. Im going big-time shopping. Im thinking maybe 15 videogames?
Just ordered Madden 2009 online.
nice, I gotta get Madden, and alot of the good PS3 games. I only have warhawk and MGS4.
I bought it this afternoon. GameStop had a bunch of copies available.
Heh, I forgot I reserved a copy ($5) at GameStop when I bought Metal Gear Solid 4, but screw it, I ordered it with overnight delivery at about 5PM, so it should be here on Tuesday at the latest.
you can still get your 5$ back. Just go with your receipt.
Yeah, I should. Probably will put it towards SOCOM.
well it wasn’t gonna be easy.
Wow Mike, you weren’t lying about that Grady Sizemore contract, it’s mouth watering.
yeah, I had no Idea.
Clutch Abreu.
Bleich is done: http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/?p=443
Nice. He showed some balls in the college world series.
praise the lord an rbi single!!!
That was not a good pitch by Nunez- he needs to shave his chin pubes.
Good Job A-Rod.
abreu is a threat to get thrown out by five feet.
Andy deserves to win this game- he pitched his balls off.
Looks like Leo lost a little bit since earlier in the year. I know he was on the DL for a while, but I saw him sitting 97-98 with some sort of breaking ball that was completely unhittable. No idea if it was a curve or a slider, but it doesn’t matter. Dudes were swinging and missing by feet.
So how we ranked the yanks draft this year?
Kinda crappy. It’s a far cry from that ungodly ’06 haul, and ’07 was better based on Brackman, Suttle and Romine alone. I’m disappointed, but whatever. The Yanks won’t know what they really got for another few years.
Cole not signing killed it. 06 Haul like that don’t happen often for any franchise especially for the pitchers the yanks drafted.
is cole not signing a done deal??
Doesn’t look like it. 51 minutes left to change that though.
hes not signing so there no deal to be done, right
Why would you let that ball by you, there was no chance it was even close.
Anyone else notice that Edwar squares himself after he follows through with the pitch, kind of like Moose. Did he always do that or am I just noticing it now.
Hold em down Edwar.
Juan Cruz will become the poster boy for why teams should not sign relievers to multi-year deals.
I never got the fascination with Juan Cruz. No offspeed pitch, and bad control.
Thanx Texas for not doing shit against TB and the Sox.
I can’t blame them for that first game. However, that offense should not get shutout at fucking Fenway Park.
whats sucks that the yanks are 3-4 against Texas.
My dad just made a comment that surprised me. 3 of the rumored prospects that were going to be traded for Johan Santana aren’t even on our 25 man roster anymore. Thats insane.
I know its tied up but on another olympic related joke however Usain Bolt from Jamacia could definatly cover a lot of ground in cf. Dudes a beast
I was thinking, do they have baseball scouts in Jamaica?
You know kills me? The Rays have this budding juggernaut, and they built it using revenue sharing money from the Yanks and Sox. The Yanks are paying them to finish ahead of them this year.
You know what kills me? The fact of what you said and the fact that people still bitch and moan about the Yankee’ payroll and how there’s no parity in baseball.
Ignorance is a mother fucker.
The Payroll arguement died years ago for me. When Yankee haters bring it up, I just say it doesn’t count.
Wow, Yanks got Bleich for $700k. Slot was $863K.
The more I try to rationalize this Gerrit Cole thing, the more it is aggravating me. Lane Meyer was right, Brian Matsuz got a deal (as the top college pitcher) that would have been significantly inferior to what Cole could have potentially received.
What could Cole’s father be thinking here? Could he possibly think that the Yankees insulted him by not negotiating hard and fast with Gerrit from the start? Does he understand that the sign-ability cases are done later? What the fuck happened from draft day ’till now that he wont even listen to a Yankee offer?
I think the marker will be Steven Strasburg. If he gets significantly less money next year then there is no denying that Cole’s father fucked up big time.
Mike A.,
The only way you can explain the Bleich signing for that money was Boras saying:
MY BAD! Please draft my guy next year!
Nunez is nasty.
cliff lee has 17 of his teams 55 wins. carltonesque
Gardner isn’t that good.
gardner looks like soriano in the 03 playoffs… just totally clueless and overmatched… matsui cant get here fast enough
That’s just a bad comparison. Terrible one.
As bad as Soriano was that post-season, or any post-season for that matter (he sucked in 02 and last season with Cubs, although did have 3 HUGE hits in the 01 post-season) it is an insult to Soriano to compare Gardner to him in any capacity…..
He hit the go-ahead homer off Schill in Game 7 of 2001. Hits don’t get much bigger.
I did say he had 3 HUGE hits in the 01 post-season. Remember walk-off HR in Game 4 vs Seattle and walk-off single in Game 5 vs Arizona.
WOW. Career in post-season in 160 AB’s: .225/.279/.319
I don’t know, I still have an inkling that Gerrit Cole will get inked.
Hopefully he does. I really hope Kyle Gibson falls next year, that kid is scary good.
Lets Go Mo.
Did Al Leiter just say that Mariano Rivera is “maybe the best” closer of all-time? Maybe, Al? really?
He has to be non-biased.
Maybe Wayne Gretzky is the greatest Hockey player. Maybe just maybe Michael Jordan was the greatest basketball player ever.
Yonder signed. So much for being A-Rod’s roomy.
Interesting debate, BA says that Jeremy Bleich will instantly become the Yanks’ best southpaw pitching prospect. What about Wilkins De La Rosa? Does Bleich’s college polish outweigh WDR’s overall stuff?
Yes. Bleich is about 2 years younger as well.
Bleich is about 2 years younger as well.
Really? Damn.
DeLaRosa was born February ’85, Bleich was born June ’87.
One pitcher who is not Carltonesque is Mo Rivera of late……
Nice Save Cano.
Carlton’s 1972 year was the best by a pitcher since WW II. He was 27-10 on a team that won 62 games…. Unbelievable.
Is Carlton available?
Damn, the Rangers inked southpaw Robbie Ross. That system just gets better and better.
This is fucking ridiculous…
What the fuck Mo.
esteban german of all people has done some damage this game.
Can the Yanks get a break? WTF
I garantee you next year all these non-save runs Mo gives up will not happen.
Is this sarcasm? If anything I expect Rivera to continue declining. He is only getting older and his numbers since the All Star Break are pretty alarming and inflate after tonights game:
3.72 ERA, 9IP, 11H, 11K, 1BB, 2HR
I expect Rivera to continue declining
Haven’t people been saying that since like, 2001?
Thats not what I mean. I am not saying he is going to morph into some scrub but I don’t believe he will continue to be lights out.
I know I know. I’m just messin’.
No it is not sarcasm. Watch Mo go one of those torrid streaks soon.
At least the Royals don’t have a great closer or anything…
is pudge hurt or something? this is an automatic strikeout.
Oh ye of little faith…
you can’t tell me that you didn’t think you were gonna get the betemit special.
i’ll take it.
If Damon bunts here I am shooting myself…
That’s a start.
You know, it’s Saturday lunchtime here in Taiwan…. somebody give me $5 and I’ll tell you how this game ends….
Watch, Girardi’s going to pinch run Pudge now.
I am pulling the trigger….
Justin Smoak is reportedly close to signing.
My God, imagine that Texas lineup in a few years.
1B- Chris Davis
2B- Ian Kinsler
3B- Justin Smoak
SS- Elvis Andrus
OF- Josh Hamilton
OF – Julio Borbon
OF- Engel Beltre
C- Taylor Teagarden/Jarrod Saltalamacchia (spelled it without even double checking, ha!)
DH- Max Ramirez
I know Smoak is projected as a First Basemen, but I can’t find another way to fit him, Davis, and Ramirez into the lineup.
Smoak can’t play third, he throws lefthanded. He’s played some RF and LF in college, but he’s a potential Gold Glover at first. Davis should DH.
So do you trade one of Salty, Teagarden, or Ramirez? If so, which one?
Salty, he’ll get the biggest return, and he’s probably the worst player of the three.
Bah.
holy shit.
see you next year
LMAO. That’s all I can do.
Honest to God, the 08 Knicks were funner to watch than this pathetic team…
Why wasn’t he going, earlier in the count, before that pick-off?
great question. why is he out there if he isn’t gonna run?
with buck catching. easy stolen base.
what ? i’m following on gameday and christian gets picked off ?
eff it. i’im getting drunk. see you guys next year, if we can’ beat the royals its over.
What might have been.
Season’s over. Can’t expect other teams to help you out when you can’t get the job done yourself. On top of that, Mo gave up the winning run. I take that as a sign…. that he isnt himself in non-save situations. Oh and that the season is over.
You fucking knew it was going to come down to A-Rod. You fucking knew it.
Just a single A-Rod, just a single. Please.
Okay, I meant to the outfield. I’ll take it though.
Probbbably not quite what you were looking for.
strange, but this may be the biggest at-bat of a-rods yankee career so far
Gee what do ya know who comes to the plate.
Hey Mike, you asked for a single.
wow. this is a funny ass game.
Wow.
The eventual career home run leader gets a swinging bunt…..? Are you kidding me?
Three minutes for Cole to change his mind…
Ooooo. They say you get 1 pitch to hit each at-bat. That was it Goomba.
Fuck.
If only Boston and Tampa Bay had injuries like the Yankees, oh wait a minute….
Fuck man. It’s not been our season.
The Yankees have to get rid of Joe Torre. Oh wait a minute….
Please don’t start this shit. Torre is awful and if it wasn’t for Manny Ramirez he would be in the same situation the Yankees are right now.
If Torre with 4 rings is awful, I dont know wtf it makes Girardi then….
Heh, BA’s Draft Blog crashed.
It’s like they are finding ways to lose.
“Start spreadin’ the news…..
It ended today….
We’re not gonna be a part of it,
Playoff…. baseballllllllll
“Our wildcard hopes,
Are fading away,
We don’t have the heart for it,
Playoff, baseballlllll…….”
Stop with the Bullshit about not having the heart for it.
It’s just one of those years where shit ain’t going right that usually goes right.
Next season just watch how the yanks hit like .285 in RISP.
Anybody think we’re still making the playoffs?
Wow, doesn’t look like the Nats got Crow to sign. Are they really going to spend the $8-10M to sign two top 10 picks next year? I doubt it.
Does him being an Indy player make him more or less of a sign-ability case in 2009?
No idea. Hochevar went from a premium signability guy to the 1st overall pick and a quick sign, but that doesn’t mean Crow will.
What helps Crow is that next year’s draft is not great at all and he be arguebably the best pitcher in that draft.
If he goes into next year with the same buzz as this year, he’ll be the third best pitcher available behind Strasburg and Gibson. Stupid kid, just sign and set yourself up for life.
Wasn’t Hochevar third or fourth best when he went #1?
He probably should take the money but who knows.
That’s true, he was at least third best behind Andrew Miller and Lincecum.
and a healthy Joba Chamberlain.
Hey Mike did you see how in the Olympics they use a freakin Kansas City tie-breaker in the 11th inning (thats at least what it is called in tourney’s down here)?? How stupid is that, I hope its only used now and not in the semi’s and finals.
Yeah, that’s absolutely retarded.
whats that mean ?
After the 11th inning, each team starts the inning with runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs.
Sorry, it’s after the 10th inning, not the 11th.
Well in the tourneys I ump a Kansas City tie-breaker is when you have 1 out and a runner on 2nd, but I dont remember if you put the final out from the previous inning on 2nd, which I think that is how it works, or use the batter due up and put him on 2nd and just continue with the lineup. In the Olympics they put runners on 1st and 2nd and apparently the team chooses who they want to hit I believe. Not sure how they choose baserunners and if their is 0 or 1 out to start off though. Either way its an absolutely STUPID way to try to end a baseball game….
It’s official, Cole didn’t sign.

Oh well.
i hate everything about this season
Remember when Mo was having a season for yhe ages?
You were the guy who wouldn’t trade melky
i imagine it was a bit rushed, and disregarded some options that not many individuals speak about. Everybody is aware of that the majority new smartphones have internet, so why present that primary perform at its bear minimum. Scroll up scroll down zoom in zoom out. Actually? which new cellphone doesnt do that? How bout talk about how the textual content rearranges itsself. Additionally the texting, very poor review. Why didnt you point out you can use the mic and text with your voice? Unnoticed ALOT of other more essential options
