Still alive
ByWe’ve been criticized for our irrational optimism in the past, so we might get some flak for this. If the Yankees can win their final six games, including three against the Red Sox, and the Sox drop their next seven, well, then we’d be in line for a one-game playoff. Impossible? No. Improbable? Yes. But hey, the season ain’t over until we lose or Boston wins one more game.

It’d be totally awesome if the Yankees sweep Toronto and Cleveland sweeps Boston. That three game series against Boston could be huge.
The only reason this is even discussable is that we have the final 3 in Boston. So a quick losing streak for Boston and we have a shot.
with the off-day today, i assume Toronto will line up Halladay for Thursday?
between Burnett on Wednesday and Halladay on Thursday, i’m not getting my hopes up.
i mean, something like this has never happened. well, except for last year with the Mets.
Nah. The Mets blew a seven-game lead in 17 games. For the Sox to choke away a six-game lead with six left would be something unprecedented I believe.
it would be, however, sweet revenge for 2004
I was thinking the same.
Well… they ARE the Sox…
The ghosts came out last night, might be making one final appearance. You know?
I mean, JOSE MOLINA, for Mo Jr.’s sakes. If that’s not a sign from Mo, I don’t know what is.
True. Litsch-Burnett-Halladay isn’t too appetizing. Where are the White Sox or the Mariners on the schedule when you need them?
Yanks at Toronto:
Tue – Mussina (18-9) v. Litsch (12-8)
Wed – Hughes (0-4) v. Burnett (18-10)
Thu – Pavano (4-1) v. Halladay (19-11)
Cleveland at Boston
Mon – Jackson (0-3) v. Beckett (12-9)
Tue – Lee (22-2) v. Wakefield (9-11)
Wed – Carmona (8-7) v. Byrd (11-12)
Thu – Sowers (4-8) v. Lester (15-6)
Even if we stay hot and win all three (not outside the realm of possibility), it could all be moot tonight when the Indians trot out Zach Jackson and his 6.30 ERA and 1.50 WHIP against the ace of the Sox staff…
And, that Thursday Sowers/Lester matchup isn’t in our favor either.
But I’m not giving up hope yet!
>> or the Mariners on the schedule when you need them? >>
Ummm…
Umm what?
Now that you’ve finally brought this up, the Sox are guaranteed to win tonight. Thanks for jinxing it!
At least we didn’t get eliminated at home.
That’s also nice.
We’re all thinking it. And talk about the ultimate erasing of 2004. Doing it in Fenway, it would be the single greatest accomplishment ever. That said, the chance of making it past tonight is slim.
Okay, so, if the stars do align and we tie the Sox on Sunday, where do they play the one-game playoff?
Fenway, or here? If we sweep ‘em, we win the season series. Is that how they do it?
Damn. Coin flip.
Head-to-head record is used to determine the winner if they tie for the division lead, not WC. Sox won the coin flip I think, which the Yanks weren’t even a part of.
I don’t think that they did the coin flip since the odds of needing it were unlikely. If the Yanks are down 3 going into fenway, they’ll probably do another coin flip between the Yanks and sox
**Wonders how optimistic Joe will be about his fantasy team in the coming weeks.**
I was really hoping Toronto would pull out 2-of-3 this weekend, but that didn’t happen.
Hey, why the fuck not?
**Wonders how optimistic Joe will be about his fantasy team in the coming weeks.**
That’s low man.
I’m still kind of pissed that I lost buy .50-points last week to Jason Witten. I fucking hate that guy.
Jamal:
Tommie’s Titans – 87.84
Rafi – 87.98
Cry me a river.
if it makes you feel any better, i lost by a similar margin in my other game
Nope. Thanks for trying, though.
P.S. That David Clowney waiver wire pickup is gonna put Joe right back on top, baby!
Yeah, I’m starting to think dropping Kevin Faulk in favor of Tyler Thigpen was a bad move.
Michael Pittman and his 5 TD FTW!
So why not just have a RAB fantasy league complaining post?
anythings possible

Heh, illegal child labor fucking ROCKS!
I admire your optimism..
What a sweet ending to a grand Stadium it would be if the Yankees won out (including a one-game playoff against Boston in New York) and Boston lost out, allowing the Yankees to slip into the playoffs.
If that happens, I guarantee the Yankees go to the World Series and win Game 7 in the Bronx against who else, but Joe Torre, Manny Ramirez and the Dodgers.
Sigh. That would have been the ultimate season.
No, a repeat of 1998 plus a few more wins for good measure would have been the *ultimate* season.
They’re saving that one for next season
one game at a time. its not IMPOSSIBLE..
all i ask for is for the yankees to have a shot.
cleveland sweeps boston, we sweep toronto. and then we control our own fate at fenway.
especially after watching all of those closing moments at yankee stadium. 2001 still KILLS ME. i feel so incomplete; that’s just not how that season should have ended, now is our chance to attone.
CALLING ALL GHOSTS. AURA/Mystique. hell…i’ll even take some midges right about now.
We can wish in one hand and shit in the other and see which one fills up first.
At this point, we got a better shot of the Red Sox charter plane going down.
I can accept that it’s not going to happen but either way, I want to sweep the Red Sox at home to end the season. If only we had scored some runs in all those 3-2 loses……
I’m just glad it didn’t happen yesterday. At least the Yankees had a mathematical chance in their last game in the stadium. Plus, we get another day to imagine how devastating it would be for the Yanks to catch and beat out Boston. I still look at Boston’s team and think they were extremely lucky to win last year and to be where they are this year. They’re just not that good.
I was thinking the same thing as this thread last night, but when I told a friend he just waved the whole thing off as wishful thinking. But right now the Sox are down 1-0 all I wanted is for them to have a chance come Friday. Maybe the old lady is not done yet.
Now it’s 1-1 fuck me.
I wonder how many of us have the Sox-Cleveland game on gamecast right now.
I’m one.
