A-Rod expected to head to Tampa on Monday

Via Bryan Hoch, Alex Rodriguez is expected to report to Tampa on Monday, where he will continue his rehab from hip surgery and begin baseball activities. A-Rod has been rehabbing in Colorado under the watch of Dr. Marc Philippon, where he rode a stationary bike and simulated his swing with a broom handle. He’ll start swinging an actual bat in Tampa, where he’ll meet the rest of the team when they come in for a series against the Rays. The Yanks are sticking to their May 15th return date, but I don’t think I’m alone in saying I hope he comes back sooner.

My main concern is that he rushes himself to come back before he’s completely ready. Hopefully the team will do well enough that there’s not too much pressure to bring him back ASAP.

random and unrelated, but could we somehow keep track of games lost that would have been won if chamberlain was in the bullpen, along with games won b/c of chamberlain starting, just to shut up the “70 games > 30 games” people?

I guess you could but can you assume that Joba would pitch a scoreless eighth every time. Also, honestly, the difference between a mediocre 5th starter and Joba is far more than the possible like six games that are lost in the eighth inning.

Just go back to last year, when the Yankees were 72-3 and when leading to start the 8th.

This is effectively an impossible thing to track. I’ve already looked at the numbers and came to the conclusion that the difference between Joba in the 8th and someone slightly worse is probably one or two games all season. And we can’t really assume that Joba would have a 0.00 ERA in the pen as many people think he would.

the 0.00 ERA is exactly what I said. I agree with what you’re saying. I think Fangraphs does a good job analyzing it. If he becomes better than the best reliever in terms of wins over replacement, he would be worth about 2.6. As a decent starter like 4.00 FIP, he would be worther about 4 to 4.5. As a good starter he would be worth a lot more. Honestly, there is no fuckin debate.

Unless that one person is named Kyle.

Who is this A-Rod that you speak of?

By the time he does come back, I hope the Yankees are kicking butt so that their stunning on the field efficiency is at least as big a story as the one being manufactured by Selena Roberts and her enablers in the publishing industry, who are parasitically trolling for dollars by clinging to Alex’s celebrity like a wad of gum on his cleats.

Phrase that probably shouldn’t be associated with ARod, ever:

“simulated his swing with a broom handle”

  • dkidd

    unless the full sentence is

(the tranny hooker) simulated his swing with a broom handle.
