Corona placed on waivers

By Mike Axisa

Chad Jennings is reporting that the Mariners have placed infielder Reegie Corona on waivers, which is the first step towards returning him to the Yanks after Rule 5′ing him during the Winter Meetings in December. Corona’s chances of sticking with team were pretty much shot down when the M’s acquired Chris Burke over the weekend. The two teams have had some trade talks that would allow the M’s to keep Corona, but so far they’ve balked at the Yanks asking price of an unknown A-ball pitcher.

Jennings also noted that Chris Garcia is going to start the year on the … wait for it … disabled list. I am shocked by this development.

27 this year says:

unknown A-ball pitcher? I don’t see the point in the Yanks making that trade. We won’t get anyone good and a positional player would be a horrible one also. Wouldn’t just make sense to get back Corona who is a middle infielder? I know he doesn’t have much potential but I don’t see the benefit in anything else.

Mike Pop says:

Ya, Cash better get Clement back for Corona in this trade.

steve (different one) says:

doesn’t the fact that the pitcher is “unknown” make it absolutely impossible for us to judge anything about this?

are you really suggesting there are no pitchers in A-ball that the Yankees shouldn’t trade Reegie Corona for?

steve (different one) says:

“should trade”

Drew says:

Breakin out the double negatives on us. interesting tactic

27 this year says:

not exactly but based on the context it is probably assumed that this isn’t going to be someone with a lot of potential. No team needs a backup infielder so badly that they would give up anything of value. The Mariners need all the help they could get so trading away someone with potential for a backup fielder would be illogical and the new GM for the M’s isn’t that stupid.

steve (different one) says:

right. which is why Cashman’s offer was denied.

Cashman asked for a pitcher that was too much to give up for Corona.

if it was a nothing pitcher, the trade would have probably been completed.

Mike Pop says:

Steve, you’re so wise.

steve (different one) says:

i ate the whole wheel of cheese.

Mike Pop says:

I’m not even mad, I’m quite impressed.

“Cashman asked for a pitcher that was too much to give up for Corona.”

And so would I if I was Cashman.

Brooklyn Ed says:

hmm does anyone realized that the A’s are pulling a Yankee this season? they have 2 unproven rookies starting the season for them, just like the Yanks last season.

Mike Pop says:

Don’t you ever, ever post an off topic comment again. There is an open thread, man!!!! Think, man, think, RAB is uuuuugggeeee now. The freaking YES Network man!!!!

King Felix for Corona, then I’ll maybe start thinking about the trade.

27 this year says:

I think they need a little more on their end. King Felix doesn’t pitch the 8th so no deal.

Drew says:

Does anyone know the correct pronunciation of Reegie?

steve (different one) says:
Drew says:

ahh that’s what I figured… just checking.

steve (different one) says:

i looked up the real answer for you:

Reegie (REEG-ee) Corona

Drew says:

Gracias. That’s how I’ve been pronouncing it but it doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. lol

Eric says:

Philippe Aumont maybe? I can dream right? And so can the Yankees.

Mike Pop says:

I’m hoping Cash can get Wladimir Balentin, somehow. Or else he sucks.

Brooklyn Ed says:

hmm Balentin is out of options though.

Tripp says:

So what happens to a guy like Garcia? Do the Yankees just keep putting him on the DL because his stuff is so good? Or do they eventually cut ties with him? Does he just flame out?

Mike Pop says:

Mo’s replacement.

steve (different one) says:

speaking of Corona, did anyone notice/remember when the Royals signed Willie Bloomquist for 2 years, $3M?

that one, plus Farns, was the WTF moment of the off-season.

Mike Pop says:

My WTF moment was when Heyman reported Tex. I was like “wtf just happened and why do I have a hard-on right now.”

MrJigginz says:

It was the pleats…

Don’t act like you’re not impressed!

the kid is flashing his plus-plus injury tool again.

Dave M says:

He’s doing his best Carl Pavano impersonation.

Troy says:

nah…he has to miss an entire season with a bruised ass to really be considered a Pavano impersonator.

he’s a tier below…

anonymous says:

We are still trying to replace Mantle. Give it up. There will never be another Carl.

Looking for an online Yankees sports radio station to listen to.

Whats the best local Yankee station to listen to online?

UNION YES. says:

Speaking of radio- Bring back Max Kellerman!

MrJigginz says:

Regarding Christian Garcia,Chad Jennings just posted that he believes Garcia(and Alan Horne)were put on the DL because they didn’t have enough time during spring to build up innings and that both have been throwing.Let’s hope that truely is the case.

Troy says:

Let’s hope that truely is the case

fo sho.
