Bruney goes for MRI, Albie optioned

By Joseph Pawlikowski

We got a tip to this effect this morning, but didn’t want to run with it until we got some sort of verification. That came from WFAN. They’re reporting that Brian Bruney will be unavailable tonight after undergoing an MRI on his elbow. Apparently it came back clean, but we’ll have more information when it becomes available.

Also, as expected, Jon Albaladejo has been optioned to AAA Scranton to make room for Chien-Ming Wang.

Finally, make sure to check out Rebecca’s post on Al Aceves, which was buried by this news post.

Gaaaaaah. That’s all I can come up with. Dammit.

UWS says:

Commence pant-crapping…………….now.

whozat says:

Really? Missing Bruney is a “pant crapping” moment?

Oh no…they’ll have to bring up Robertson and/or Melancon, consider converting Kontos to a reliever sooner rather than later, or bringing up fossum/towers to be the longman and using Aceves in more of a late innings role.

UWS says:

At this moment, Bruney is the second-best reliever on this team. Robertson/Melancon/Kontos/whoever may all be serviceable options at some point, but Bruney is only guy I trust out there after Mo.

whozat says:

Ok.

We’ve been on a 9-game winning streak in which he pitched one inning. So, I don’t feel like there’s a need to crap our pants over his lack of presence.

Dave says:

Yea not a good situation brewing….Tomko, Coke, Rivera…Burnett better pitch well tonight

tim randle says:

…that means, in essence, CMW just took Alber-la-dingo’s spot in tonight’s game…

in the other game i give a crap about, Santana vs Dice-BB at Fenway.

PLEASE let the Mets remember to put in a DH on the scorecard…PUHLEEESE!!!!

Drew says:

I don’t think CMW will take his spot. He’ll strictly be a longman for the worst case scenario IMO.
BTW, doesn’t make a difference if they forget the DH spot, their lineup is pathetic past the 5 spot tonight.

Tank the Frank says:

Honestly, the Mets have no chance to win a game in this series. They giftwrapped a game to the Dodgers and played terribly overall. Now you take this lineup to Fenway against a Sox lineup with Youkilis and Bay mashing, and Lowell hitting 7th? No chance.

jsbrendog says:

dude, johan. nuff said.

dice k will walk too many guys and give up 1 too many runs and the mets will win.

then they will proceed to get tarred and feathered the next 2 games

Zack says:

Santana 6.89 ERA at Fenway, only 4 games (3 starts) but still

Tank the Frank says:

Well if Santana can “contain” David Ortiz and make him 0-4 with 3 whiffs… that’ll put a smile on my face win or lose.

TeH BIG PAPI is back!!! Aaawwtiiiiiz!!!

tim randle says:

0-3 with three K’s and a HBP followed by a fist pump…

The Mets’ lineup after Wright includes four pitchers:

Murphy – 1B
Church – RF
Beltran – CF
Sheffield – DH
Wright – 3B
Jeremy Reed – LF
Omir Santos – C
Ramon Martinez – SS
Luis Castillo – 2B

Drew says:

What sucks is, usually that makes me happy. Today it makes me mad.

jsbrendog says:

i feel sheffield is worse than castillo at this point. either way that is AWFUL

whozat says:

Oh, jesus. That is horrendous. They won’t even make Matsuzaka throw a lot of pitches.

Santana could throw 7-8 innings of one-run ball and lose.

Drew says:

The bright spot, Sheff and Wright may hit a few off of or over the monster.

jsbrendog says:

watching sheffield hit now is painful.

Drew says:

You’ll see. He’ll get a hit tonight, hopefully it comes at the right time. 360+ Avg. in his last 26 AB’s.

Only Managers of the AL are allowed to forget to put DH on the scorecard

Zack says:

GG says:

Damnit. With Edwar and “Albie” both not around, Girardi is running out of his favorite guys to hand the ball off to when hes lookin for a blown save.

You have to wonder what’s going on with Bruney if he felt pain again so soon after being activated.

I’d like to hope it’s nothing serious but doesn’t portend well.

Our bullpen tonight is more or less Wang, Tomko and Coke. Good think Wang and Tomko can pitch more than an inning.

Drew says:

And Mo. Only 25 pitches in the last 4 days.

Dave says:

Wonder about this tip that you got this morning

Tank the Frank says:

So if Burnett gets knocked around early, we’re going to see Wang. If Wang still can’t hip-thrust that sinker down and gets smacked…. well then we deserve to lose the game.

I hope Bruney is available soon. His importance cannot be overstated IMO.

Sorry but no time to send this to a mod or I would have done so…

Drew says:

With Bruney out, why didn’t we bring up a reliever!? We know how Wang is (when he’s right) on extended rest. He should have made his start tonight.

Tank the Frank says:

It has to do with options, no? Unless you option him or put him on the DL, you can’t bring someone up in his place.

I would have loved another reliever though. Bring up Melancon or Robertson instead of Wang. Use Tomko as a long reliever, and if you don’t need him there, you still have him for one inning.

Drew says:

But it wouldn’t have been in place of Bruney, it would have been in place of Albie.

tim randle says:

hey…can i change my 11 to a 7 on this news, or do i have to wait for next week?
