Hey, a Robertson sighting! Now watch him suck due to not pitching in a week.
Well, can’t win em all….even though they really should of won this game.
You’re terrible. What do you want him to do? Bring in Albaladejo to face Hunter in a spot like that? That would be beyond stupid. Sabathia is the ace of this team, and he gets paid a lot of money to get outs like that. He didn’t. That’s not on Girardi, sorry.
I’d settle for him never using fucking Veras ever again. That would be a start.
Just for everyone saying Veras might not have any value at all. The Astros traded for Hawkins last year!
I don’t want to see him traded or released but just be used as a mop-up guy for a while. I still got faith in em.
At what point will you lose patience with him? It can’t be too far away. I have no patience for him anymore. I’m assuming the rest of the crowd can’t be too far behind. He is what he is – a guy with good stuff who has absolutely no idea where it’s going.
Ya but if they release him and he turns out to be a guy like Bruney(with the D-Backs) and he learns how to command it. I’d be upset. I’m with you on seeing Robertson more but I can’t give up on him just yet. Do I feel confident when he comes in? No, but I beleive he can turn it around. I wouldn’t mind to trade him if it brings something swell back considering all the options the Yanks have. I just want to see the bullpen do better. Frustrating, because this was suppose to be a strongpoint in the team.
If the Brewers asked for him and Melky in exchange for Cameron, would you do it?
Of course.
I wouldn’t. One year guy for a 26 year old and a 24 yr old.
Hawkins is a veteran reliever who had come off an excellent 2007 in Colorado. We got a borderline non-prospect for him. Veras has never shown much talent or potential – he is interchangeable with a guy just about every team has in its system.
Veras has shown plenty of potential in my opinion.
He was laboring. No, I don’t want to see Albaladejo there, but at least he’d be fresh.
I don’t think you can fault Girardi for that situation. On the other hand, I think you can start talking about how long the leash is with some of these starters. I don’t like sending out Sabathia out for another inning when he is already over 100 pitches. I don’t like the idea of a 120 pitch count for him.
Just because he gets payed a lot of money doesn’t mean he can throw 120 pitches every start. Its May 2nd, starters haven’t built up their stamina that far yet. If he’s struggling after 115 pitches you should consider making a move not just for that one game but for the season…
I’m glad I am not the only one thinking the same thing. There was an AJ start that Girardi let him turn a great start into a terrible one in the 6th or 7th inning.
How about using the other relievers in your pen besides Veras and Albaladejo? Is that too much to ask?
Just via Gameday, that pitch looked like it had disgusting break on it.
Meaning the K pitch to Matthews.
It did in real life too. It had the arc of a Veras gopher ball, just for comparison’s sake.
So Robertson is alive.
You can’t expect to win with a lineup this horrific. The bottom half is a black hole.
Even against a 30 year old rookie with your ace on the mound?
It’s more of just a general statement, but trotting out this lineup against any MLB pitcher (save Ollie Perez who is imploding as I type) is only going to get you a win if you’re lucky.
But he’s barely a ML pitcher.
The main reason the Yankees are trailing is that Damon didn’t catch that flyball.
Yeah I really don’t like having
Swisher,
Posada,
Nady,and
A-Rod
All out of the same line-up. With a slumping Teixeira its too easy to pitch around the couple of Yankees who are hitting well.
Ya, there is no excuse. He’s a AAA pitcher and the Yanks had a major league lineup with some AAA hitters in there with a top 5 pitcher in baseball on the mound.
Should be a W 9 out of 10 times. Unfortunately for us, this was a time.
Nice play, Melky.
on the murphy thoughts from the last thread.
4 career HRs, .314, .815, ops in 204 AB.
Certainly not enought to warrant playing LF everyday and tripping over himself. Im pretty sure tatis could do a better job in the OF, with the same production. Let murphy develop in the OF in the minors.
Ironically enough, Murphy has a 26.6 UZR/150 coming into today.
Seriously? I guess this is one time you cant use uzr/150 to measure defense.
I’m sure the thing is that he misses a handful of plays (in AWFUL style) but makes the rest of ‘em.
I dont know if anyone brought this up before but..I’d like to not totally blow Sabathias arm out this year by consistently running him out their for 120 pitches every start..
*there..bah. Post invalidated.
He’s not a 100 pitch limit kind of pitcher.
Yes but I thought the idea was to not push him to the max considering his history of tiring out down the stretch. Granted, last year he was on short rest for like a month or whatever, but still.
That doesn’t mean you’ve got to pitch him to his tipping point every single start.
It’s his own fault, he has been th opposite of economical this year. Did we really want to go into the 7th with a bullpen arm?
If the pitcher is laboring and being “uneconomical”, then, yes you go to the bullpen.
nah man the 6th inning he made good pitches. He wasn’t laboring.
Yeah, but he has logged a tremendous amount of innings the last few years and wore down at the end of 2007 and in the 2008 playoffs. I understand that he can pitch more than a regular guy, but there is a point where it becomes overkill. I didn’t have a problem with him staying in today, I’m just saying that Girardi can’t just keep him in the game for 120 pitches each game because he’s going to be tired down the stretch.
Basically, CC needs to get into the 7th with less than 100 pitches. He’s been having a hard time doing that.
Completely agree.
Nice defense from Melky there.
That was pretty impressive Melky.
Oh man Melk, you’re making me look bad. That thing had mad english on it though.
At this point, all you can do is laugh. Sure is hard to root for some of these guys.
lol. I can laugh at this comment, that’s about it.
Nice!
Wow…I feel so dirty for having just agreed on something w/Joe Buck…
I feel so dirty after I looked at who I woke up next to this morning.
That was just your reflection, Pop.
Na, was some lady who said she had a son that went to UConn. A big Yankee fan and has his own blog. Come to think about it…
Well played.
What would it take for the Yankees to sweep a series against the Angels?
I can live with this happening today as long as the Yankees can win tomorrow and take the series.
400+ million dollars. Oh wait..
Yes, we know paying alot of money doesn’t gaurantee a W every game. It just makes your team much more competitive and leads to better records.
Seriously what’s wrong with Veras? Does he just have bad command all around?
Terrible command.
Yep.
I think the order goes something like this:
Steve Blass
Rick Ankiel
Jose Veras
We can do this…
too bad fuentez only comes in with a lead…
I thought the days of us being dominated by pitchers we’ve never seen before were over…
Throwing up and in to Berroa: that’s for stealing Matsui’s ROY, lying about your age, and breaking the hearts of fans in the greater Kansas City area!
Posada killing the rally.
Needed that last time Jorge.
YES guys talking about how Posada’s home run there means he has a lot of pride in his team and never quits.
All serious. All the time.
I just love how the same result from two different players produces a wildly different storyline.
Only one word for that at bat.
Gritful.
Gritastic?
1 out left.. I feel like Jack Black just kicked my dog off a bridge.
That’s how I roll.
Baxter, Baxter bark twice if you’re in Milwaukee!
Oh no! Baxter!
Izturis tipped Posada!! He wiggled his glove hand, I saw it!
Jeter!
That’s on GMJ, my fault.
Gary Matthews Jr. suddenly remembers that he is Gary Matthews Jr.!
Matthews pulls an Abreu.
Those 2 runs by Robertson loom large right now.
Every run starting with the ones that Damon allowed by not catching that flyball looms large.
Ya, man. Fuck Melky.
So if we score this run CC doesn’t get the loss?
Nope. CC is the pitcher of record unless the Yankees tie the game or take the lead.
Man. Teases.
Johnny, time to redeem yourself for failing to get to that fly ball in the 7th.
Come on Damon. Get it to Mark.
Why didn’t we take this approach vs Arradondo
Damon walks, Tex walks, Hideki GS, Cano walk off.
Apparently not.
Almost.
I can live with this today if it means the Yankees can win tomorrow. Clearly a 4 game sweep of the Angels is too much to hope for.
They’ll win tomorrow.
Damon is the Losing Player of the Game. 0-5, two bad defensive plays, and a horrible plate approach almost every appearance.
Is Teixeira hurt?
