Categories : Game Threads
  • Mike Pop

    Would be EPIC.

  • dkidd

time for cervelli to get his “seminal moment”

  • cult of basebaal

better win here … the firestarter’s warming for the 10th

    • Mike Pop

Then they walk-off in the 10th.

  • Steve H

How cool will another walkoff be.

    • Mike Pop

      You’re crazy man.

    • http://ryanhandt.blogspot.com/ handtius

Well, if they are going to win, it kind of has to be of the walk of veriety.

  • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

A walk off hit from Cano would be nice.

    Swisher walk
    Melky single
    Cano FTW

    • http://ryanhandt.blogspot.com/ handtius

I know WTF, but what is this FTW. I must be getting old.

      • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

      • Mike Pop

        For The Win.

        • http://ryanhandt.blogspot.com/ handtius

          Where did that come from?

          • Mike Pop

            It’s of Croussettian origin.

      • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

also F*ck the world but not in this case.

    • Matt-Pitt

Cervilli hits before Cano, I believe.

  • yankeefan91 Arod fan

    come on swisherrrrrrrrrrrr

  • james

i DO NOT want to see Veras in the 10th. Lets end this game right here. Melky maybe?

  • cjc

    brett gardner pinch run here?

    • cjc

      guess so

  • Matt-Pitt

Leadoff walks always hurt. Gardner, swipe itttt.

  • dre

he better pinch run. he can steal second and third

    • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

      and home!

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Hah, Melky was getting ready to slide into first there.

  • Mike Pop

    Kay LOVES the bunt.

    Just gets so excited, haha.

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Why not steal first with Cervelli on deck?

    • cjc

would have thtought he would at least take a strike owe well Francisco wants the glory

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=15305165&ref=profile Doug

Did I not get the memo that this is “Small Ball Day?”

  • Nady Nation

Bunting for Cervelli?! And not even letting Gardner steal 2nd beforehand? Come on.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tADvb3yyhwM Slugger27

i dont know if i like that move with cervelli coming up

    • BklynJT

When will you know? Depending on the outcome of the inning?

    • Infamous

not a huge fan of it

  • http://ryanhandt.blogspot.com/ handtius

Why bunt. why not let him steal, then bunt. Durrrrr.

    • BklynJT

      ridiculous!

  • Matt-Pitt

How awesome would a Cervilli walk off be? The kid would go NUTS.

    • Steve H

      Probably forget to touch 1st.

  • dre

what a waste, let him take a pitch or two have brett steal second then maybe melky can get a hit..

  • yankeefan91 Arod fan

    wtf

  • cjc

dumb dumb dumb really fucking dumb

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=15305165&ref=profile Doug

    AH SHIT

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Stupid play.

  • Matt-Pitt

Wow, what are you doing? Why not stay at 3rd?????

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

With Cano on deck, I like the gamble, but eh…

  • steve (different one)

    SPEED!!!

  • http://ryanhandt.blogspot.com/ handtius

    What the fuck.

  • Nady Nation

    Are you kidding me Gardner?

    • whozat

      Wow.

      Seriously.

Actually, Michael, it’s a bad play even if it works.

1-3 with Cano at the plate and one out is WAY better than this.

  • Mike Pop

    Mauer is good at baseball.

    Brett, you’re silly.

  • steve (different one)

    GRIT!!!

  • Mike Pop

The replay of that was epic.

  • Steve H

Ellsbury would have scored. And of course it would have been the 1st 15 mins of Sportscenter.

  • Matt-Pitt

In all fairness… Mauer was about to throw to first and if he did, the game is over. Solid presence of mind from Mauer, thats just a great play.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=15305165&ref=profile Doug

He FAKED the throw to first, then dove straight to the 3rd base line to tag out Gardner.

      Epic. Just epic.

      • Matt-Pitt

That is a hell of a freakin’ play

      • Mike Pop

For real man. Damn. He knew, he had it in his head the whole time.

      • BklynJT

        Mauer >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Posada

        • Steve H

          Just a tad.

  • BklynJT

prediction: Cano strikes out.. damn it

  • Stryker

    well that sucks.

hell of a play by mauer.

  • Shdwrptr

What’s better? Attempting to win by yourself or to stay first and third with 1 out?

    • http://ryanhandt.blogspot.com/ handtius

      stay the fuck on third!

  • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

Awful decision. Cano makes plenty of contact. You need to stay at third and leave him with the bat.

    • whozat

Seriously. Obviously the wrong call, and not just in hindsight.

  • Infamous

    Great play by Mauer

  • http://ryanhandt.blogspot.com/ handtius

That pisses me off. one out with a man on third is better.

    • whozat

Seriously. Gardner could tag up on a shitty little popup to span — something Cano could do EASILY.

  • Mike Pop

Mauer has like 8 or 9 senses.

    • http://ryanhandt.blogspot.com/ handtius

His teammates were probably cluing him in.

  • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

Brett was probably thinking “F U Matt Kemp!!!”

  • steve (different one)

Gardner blowing through the stop sign.

would’ve been smarter to pause and wait for Mauer to commit to throwing to 1st.

    i guess it’s a split second decision

    • BklynJT

If Mauer threw that, Gardner would of scored. Mauer knew it, that was a great fake!

      • Nady Nation

Doesn’t matter. Ming-numbingly dumb play by Gardy.

  • daveg

It will all be moot shortly.

  • dkidd

    fun series

  • charlie

fuckin terrible play by gardner, might cost us the game

    • http://ryanhandt.blogspot.com/ handtius

He cost us winning it in the 9th gardner would have easly scored on that wouldbe sac-fly

    • Todd

I agree with you and everybody else that it probably was a bad decision. However, I can live with aggressive mistakes that put enough pressure on the defense to make it a “bang-bang” play. If Span even makes a decent play, we all would have been saying the same thing about Matsui tagging on the short fly ball.

  • http://ryanhandt.blogspot.com/ handtius

    What a fucking bitch.

  • Kyle

I’m sure Elsbury scores there….based on grit factor alone

  • cjc

game over yankees win yankees win oh wait why wasn’t Brett on 3rd

    • Shdwrptr

You can’t assume he would have thrown the same pitches or that Cano would have came in with the same mentality if Brett was on 3rd. It was a stupid play but if Mauer had thrown to first like I’m sure everyone here thought he was going to the game would be over right now.

      • cjc

there is really no defending that play it was dumb to break for home when the ball is still in Mauers hand no way around it

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=15305165&ref=profile Doug

Looking at the replay of the Maeur play at the plate, it looks like the freaking Matrix with both guys diving at each other.

  • yankees=warriors

Can’t freaking believe this, Gardner over-confident with his speed…

  • Matt-Pitt

And that fly ball would’ve won the game… Gotta pay attention to your third base coach, though I see what he was doing.

Get a quick top of the 10th and Teix or A-Rod will walk it off.

  • charlie

its incredibly frustrating that we would have won there if it wasn’t for friggin dumbass brett gardner

    • steve (different one)

to be fair, with a man on 3rd, you don’t know if Cano gets that same pitch.

      • charlie

so what, still a terrible play

        • steve (different one)

who said it wasn’t? but you can’t assume Cano has the same AB.

          stop moving the goalposts.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=15305165&ref=profile Doug

Fallacy of the predetermined outcome, bro.

  • dre

because manager clueless has melky bunt on the first pitch

    • steve (different one)

      give it a rest.

the bunt should have worked perfectly

    • Matt-Pitt

That actually looked like Melky was trying to do it for a basehit. I don’t know if that was called from Girardi.

      • ranger11

True, that was not a normal looking sac. bunt.

    • http://ryanhandt.blogspot.com/ handtius

Seriously, I’m sick of this clueless stuff. He started last year and was decimated with injuries all year and had no pitching and started this year the same. give him some time.

      • steve (different one)

this guy only pops up to rip Girardi. he adds nothing.

        he’s girardi’s Lanny

        • http://ryanhandt.blogspot.com/ handtius

Aw, where is Lanny? I miss making fun of him. Guess he’s found another team that is slumping to complain about.

      • dre

yeah cause no manager is ever decimated by injuries.
just look at his daily decsions and you will understand how clueless he is.

heres one why is he resting cano today?
he really needs a day off? really? ripkin and Gherig are hall of famers who never had a day off..cano is what 27 at most? he doesn’t need a day off and its not like hes slumping or anything. clueless at his best

        • steve (different one)

          dude, give it a rest.

          you sound like a moron.

        • handtius

wow…you schooled me…He is trying to keep everyone fresh. As much as I appreciate Gherig and Ripkin, they didn’t always help their teams by playing everyday, especially Ripkin.

And I’m so sorry 89 wins wasn’t good enough for a team with a black whole at catcher, no 3rd baseman for an extended period of time and 2 pitchers the whole year.

  • cjc

    Which Veras today?

    • cjc

      never mind my bad

  • BklynJT

The synchronous reaction by the fans on that called out was hilarious!

  • dkidd

heiniken ad is great until the last shot when it’s obviously not the same cab driver

  • Mike Pop

Mauer just tricked his ass. He knew what he was doing the whole time, Brett fell for it.

  • http://theenlighteneddespot.com NC Saint

I’m not somewhere where there’s a TV, but my spider sense says that Michael Kay is using the phrase ‘fallacy of the predetermined outcome’ right now. He’s really proud of that one.

  • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

Yeah, that was a great play. It was the wrong choice, but that does not take away from how good a play it was by Mauer.

    • BklynJT

Are you saying it was the wrong choice by Mauer? If Mauer threw to first, I think Brett would of had a better chance of scoring.

    • BklynJT

Or did you mean was it the wrong choice on Gardner’s part?

  • charlie

i hope he doesn’t play for the next month

    • Mike Pop

      CLUELESS JOE!

  • Kevin Greene

Just to make a point, if Gardner stays at third cervelli is thrown out at first…. so there would be a man on 3rd with TWO OUTS

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=15305165&ref=profile Doug

I don’t know, it looks like he would have beat out the throw.

    • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

No, Cervelli was safe – Mauer pump-faked.

    • Matt-Pitt

If Mauer threw that ball to first, Gardner scores. He was going the whole way. We win the game and it doesn’t matter if Cervilli is out or not.

      • Kevin Greene

I am not sure, looking at the replay from when mauer got to the ball if he threw to first, it looked like Cerv was gonna be thrown out…. The argument was if it was a bad play by gardner, so one has to take into consideration what WOULD have happened if he had stopped at third… I do however agree that if mauer throws to first Grit scores no problem.

I just dont think it was an awful play, bc of the alternative 2 outs man on 3rd. But it matters not… WALK OFF IN THE 10TH!!

    • steve (different one)

oh, i don’t know if Mauer was going to get Cervelli.

    • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

No, that is not true. Mauer decided not to throw before he knew Gardner was going.

    • BklynJT

If Mauer threw to first, I bet Gardner attempts to go home. Who knows what happens, but I think he would of scored.

    • Nady Nation

Except he didn’t have a play on Cervelli. Not sure what your point is.

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

So, Aceves has moved up in the depth chart over Jose Veras.

    • charlie

      Thank God

  • http://eastrutherfordrant.com donttradecano

Cant really blame gardner, he saw the plate open and needed to have a hell of a play by Mauer to get him out.

  • dkidd

gangster gets his 2nd straight win today

  • Shdwrptr

I don’t think Mauer tricked Gardner. I think he saw he had no play and then the second baseman pointed to Gardner coming home. That’s what it looked like since he didn’t even pump fake he stopped halfway through a throw after seeing Cervelli

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=15305165&ref=profile Doug

Hell of quick reaction time if that’s the case.

    • Mike Pop

      Ya, you could be right.

I had it set in my mind he tricked him because I refuse to believe the yankees do anything wrong.

  • Pasqua

That was a cocky play on Gardner’s part. You have to understand the situation better than that. 1st and 3rd, 1 out, Cano at the plate, you can score on a short fly ball with your speed…and you choose to take matter into your own hands? Foolish.

And, yes, it was obvious that Mauer had decided not to throw to first before he saw Gardner coming, so there would have only been one out.

    • BklynJT

It’s obvious after the fact, but it was a great split second decision that a lot of catchers probably dont make.

      • Pasqua

Nah, I still say you have to be more aware of the situation BEFORE the play even unfolds. Split second is one thing, but his approach seemed too impulsive.

  • daveg

gangster needs to put on a clinic – “how to dominate with mediocre stuff”

    • Mike Pop

      dominant* ;)

      • Mike Pop

actually, nevermind. I don’t know which it is.

    • Matt-Pitt

He needs to teach the rest of them how to throw strikes first.

  • cjc

hey pop ups are our thing get your own

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=15305165&ref=profile Doug

    YEAH ACEVES

This dude who is not afraid to throw strikes, he is a solid dude.

    • steve (different one)

he could bring some stability to the pen.

  • Matt-Pitt

Mexican Gangster is the shizzz. He is about to pick up his 2nd win in as many days.

  • james

Wow, nice inning for Veras. Now its time for another A-Rod walk off.

    • Brendan

      That was Alfredo Aceves.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=15305165&ref=profile Doug

Hey, they ALL LOOK THE SAME, amirite

    • BklynJT

Yeah, Veras only has good innings when he doesn’t pitch.

  • yankees=warriors

Just to make the mood lighter, did you guys see some of the Yankees climbing out of the dugout in the background, then back when they saw Gardner was out?
    Kinda funny, LOL~

    • Shdwrptr

I saw it. Around 5 players had to jump back over the railing

  • Stryker

man if aceves picks up the win burnett totally gets shafted. pitched one hell of a game today.

    • Steve H

I’m sure he’d rather Aceves get the win than anyone on the Twins. He walked 6 guys in 6 2/3, wouldn’t call it shafted.

  • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

Ok people, you can turn off your TV’s. Tex is sending everybody home happy today. The karma is too good- anniversary of the Giambi game against the Twins.

    • Pasqua

Your optimism is commendable. I like it.

    • Nady Nation

      Damn you, Moshe.

  • Nady Nation

I’m calling a Teix walkoff. It’s his turn.

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

    Thanks for showing up, Houston.

  • cjc

alright lets continue the streak of consecutive games allowing a run by Crain

  • cjc

and another 93 mph curveball these pitchers are just sick

  • Tony

    “That’s Crain’s business”

    EFF YOU, KAY

  • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

    Federer over Nadal. I’m glad.

  • adeel

In gardner’s defense, he probably thought that Mauer is throwing to first and getting Cervelli out… He didn’t have the view that we did, so I think that is why he did it.. It was a split second decision, but in his mind, there were probably going to be two out with him at third.

    • steve (different one)

      screw the haters!!!

      this team has BALLLLLLLLLLzZz!!!!!

      • steve (different one)

didn’t mean to reply to you….

      • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

No, I was talking to the Twins, as in take the walk to the dugout.

        • Mike Pop

          Oh shit, my bad, yo!

    • steve (different one)

    NORTHSIDE WALK ITOU

    DAMON WALK IT OUT

    WOOOOO!!!!

  • handtius

    CALLED THAT SHITE!@!!!!!!!!W#!@#!$!@E

  • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

Is he having a year or what?

  • V

    Melky, ARod, Damon!!!

    Who’s the hero tomorrow??!

    • Matt-Pitt

      Cano

  • BklynJT

Gardner’s gotta lend Damon his gf for the night… Actually make that two nights!

    • BigBlueAL

Damon’s wife is more than enough.

  • Nady Nation

Damon sure does love that porch, huh?

  • Mark

    Johnnnnyyyyyy!

  • mustang

    I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ARX

At this point, we need to fit Damon for a cape.

  • Shdwrptr

How bad do the Twins feel now? Losing 3 games in a row they should have won?

    • adeel

      could have won.

      • Shdwrptr

If they’re relief had been even halfway decent they should have won at least the first game? 3 runs in one inning from Nathan?

        • steve (different one)

i wouldn’t say they should have won today.

          • Shdwrptr

The reason they didn’t win today was due to both the bullpen and Slowley. Gardenhire didn’t take Slowley out when he should have because he doesn’t trust the bullpen and Slowley lost the game when he broke down after only throwing 85 pitches. He had enough gas to go complete game if he didn’t lose it with the lead.

            • whozat

              Slowey.

              Also…did he really “lose it”?

He gives up a solo shot, a double and a dinky fly ball that really shouldn’t have been enough to score the run.

Frankly, I would’ve stayed with him.

    • mustang

I’m going to tomorrow’s game things don’t look good for me, but I don’t care.

      The Twins aren’t happy.

  • Christopher

It’s hilarious how A-Rod is always at the back of the pile celebrating on his own.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=15305165&ref=profile Doug

Nobody wants to dogpile with A-Rod :(

    • thisisthedavid

LoL dude doesn’t want to get hurt. Who needs him not at 100%.
he knows what he means to all his fans and to the success of the team.

    • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

It’s hilarious how people always have to say something about the guy.

      • mustang

        Agree

    • steve (different one)

      yes, what an astute observation.

but what yankee fan can resist a cheap shot at A-Rod in the middle of a great moment??

      • mustang

Sometime it gets to a crazy zone if this is what your getting of this game. I rather enjoy the win..

    • handtius

How, we have 3 walk-offs in a row and that is what you come up with. Amazing. If you didn’t notice, he’s also the first one out there.

    • Nady Nation

Pretty sure he was right in the middle of the pile yesterday after he won the game.

      • Pasqua

He was in the middle of the pile on Friday night and ran out of it. I don’t blame him. No way that hip is healed fully.

    • Steve H

      Oaktag

  • thisisthedavid

    Damon 2010

  • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

High fives to Burnett, Albie to end the 7th, Tomko to end the 8th, Mo and Aceves being awesome, A-Rod, teixeira for flashing the leather, and Johnny flippin Damon.

    • BklynJT

Not to mention Girardi for not bringing in Veras.

      • handtius

They would have won anyway. That’s just the way it’s going.

  • steve (different one)

funny how quickly a season can change…

  • http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=594331910&ref=name Jamal G.

Heh, Tony Pena called the walk-off.

  • Steve H

A-Rod is ruining this teams chemistry. They’d be better off without him.

  • Mike Pop

    I love A.J.!

    • Linnea

I was really hoping he’d get the W today and the pie. Maybe next time! <3s AJ.

  • BklynJT

AJ is such a clown! Im lovin it

  • Matt-Pitt

“How cool would another walk-off be?”

I thought it was pretty awesome.

  • dkidd

    i fucking love this team

  • V

Man, I have Rivera on one of my fantasy teams, and he’s been THIS close to getting Ws two days in a row, lol.

  • LiveFromNY

    Three straight walkoffs! UNBELIEVEABLE

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I could get used to this.

    • thisisthedavid

Such fluctuation in emotions, can’t be healthy for the heart ….

  • Will (the other one)

    Oh, Johnny. Johnny, Johnny, Johnny.

  • http://eastrutherfordrant.com donttradecano

look at melky and arod trying catch damons helmet like two bridesmaids at a wedding.

    • dkidd

whoever catches it gets the next walk-off

    • steve (different one)

you could totally see that the helmet preferred Melky.

Johnny Understatement Damon: “We’re playing well…”

  • Steve H

    Where is Lanny?

  • Scooter

Notice how absent some of our little trolls have been during this streak. I’m absolutely SHOCKED

    AJ completely nailed Damon!

    And Kim’s looking pretty good

  • thisisthedavid

Damon is also the teams voice box. Since he signed he is the most quoted player on the team. Dude is a real leader. I didn’t hear him moan about moving to LF. Simply a legend. I hope he gets a ring with this team!

    • Scooter

I agree – Damon seems like a great guy to have in the clubhouse. I know the team doesn’t need another 35+ y.o. guy – but if he’s willing to come back on a short contract (2 yrs?), I’d sure think about it

Crap that was a good win.

Looks like I missed dre – who’s apparently guest-trolling for Lanny

  • yankees=warriors

Man, these past 3 days are definitely shortening my life span!!

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Aunt Becca-Optimist Prime

    Holy fuck.

  • BJ

can somebody get a brother some OAKTAG!!!

  • another steve

as i predicted in an earlier thread, i got home from work just in time for the walk off.

  • LiveFromNY

I thank the good Mo for making me a Yankee fan.

    • John

      me too bro, me too

  • dkidd

we play today, we walk-off win today

    • yankees=warriors

For the sake of my heart and the Yankee bullpen, I’d still prefer more conventional wins, LOL!

      • LiveFromNY

I really didn’t think I could handle another extra inning win but screw it, I’ll take it.

  • mustang

Not to take anything away from the Yankees wins, but is it me or does the AL central suck.
The Jays have been beating on them all season and the Twins aren’t looking like world beaters.

  • http://eastrutherfordrant.com donttradecano

I like the attitude Burnett has brought to the team. Serious, but relaxed. This is the most fun ive seen a Yankee team have in awhile.

  • LiveFromNY

I like the fact that Girardi is a thinking manager. It doesn’t always work out but he’s thinking and tinkering which is nice.

  • Scooter

Mariano told AJ to get the pie ready for a walkoff.

It’s a combination of players – AJ, Swisher, the young guys, and the vets – that have created a really good clubhouse.

That said, Veras and Ramirez still scare the crap out of me in the pen.

    • cult of basebaal

well, within a week, bruney will be back and one of them will very likely be gone …

    • whozat

It’s a combination of players – AJ, Swisher, the young guys, and the vets -all the wins in a row that have created a really good clubhouse.

      Fixed that for you.

  • Quikksand

    This team is amazing

  • LiveFromNY

AJ says they watch the replays together and are coming together that way which is good to know. The walkoff celebrations have to help them gel as a group too.

  • dkidd

wang, bruney, nady, posada coming back. tex and alex heating up. melancon and robertson coming up. edwar and veras saying bye-bye. this is going to be a fun summer

  • YankeeScribe

The Yanks have won every series since A-Rod returned. He’s such a chemistry killer… ;-)
