Categories : Game Threads

  1. Mike Pop says:

    Would be EPIC.

  2. dkidd says:

time for cervelli to get his “seminal moment”

  3. cult of basebaal says:

better win here … the firestarter’s warming for the 10th

  4. handtius says:

Can Mo be the President? He’d cure all that is ailing this world.

  5. Steve H says:

How cool will another walkoff be.

  6. A walk off hit from Cano would be nice.

    Swisher walk
    Melky single
    Cano FTW

  7. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

    come on swisherrrrrrrrrrrr

  8. james says:

i DO NOT want to see Veras in the 10th. Lets end this game right here. Melky maybe?

  9. cjc says:

    brett gardner pinch run here?

  10. Matt-Pitt says:

Leadoff walks always hurt. Gardner, swipe itttt.

  11. dre says:

he better pinch run. he can steal second and third

  12. Mike Axisa says:

Hah, Melky was getting ready to slide into first there.

  13. Mike Pop says:

    Kay LOVES the bunt.

    Just gets so excited, haha.

  14. Jamal G. says:

Why not steal first with Cervelli on deck?

  15. Doug says:

Did I not get the memo that this is “Small Ball Day?”

  16. Nady Nation says:

Bunting for Cervelli?! And not even letting Gardner steal 2nd beforehand? Come on.

  17. Slugger27 says:

i dont know if i like that move with cervelli coming up

  18. handtius says:

Why bunt. why not let him steal, then bunt. Durrrrr.

  19. Matt-Pitt says:

How awesome would a Cervilli walk off be? The kid would go NUTS.

  20. dre says:

what a waste, let him take a pitch or two have brett steal second then maybe melky can get a hit..

  21. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

  22. cjc says:

dumb dumb dumb really fucking dumb

  23. Matt-Pitt says:

Wow, what are you doing? Why not stay at 3rd?????

  24. Jamal G. says:

With Cano on deck, I like the gamble, but eh…

  25. steve (different one) says:

  26. Nady Nation says:

    Are you kidding me Gardner?

    • whozat says:

Actually, Michael, it’s a bad play even if it works.

1-3 with Cano at the plate and one out is WAY better than this.

  27. Mike Pop says:

    Mauer is good at baseball.

    Brett, you’re silly.

  28. steve (different one) says:

  29. Mike Pop says:

The replay of that was epic.

  30. Steve H says:

Ellsbury would have scored. And of course it would have been the 1st 15 mins of Sportscenter.

  31. Matt-Pitt says:

In all fairness… Mauer was about to throw to first and if he did, the game is over. Solid presence of mind from Mauer, thats just a great play.

  32. BklynJT says:

prediction: Cano strikes out.. damn it

  33. Stryker says:

    well that sucks.

hell of a play by mauer.

  34. Shdwrptr says:

What’s better? Attempting to win by yourself or to stay first and third with 1 out?

  35. Moshe Mandel says:

Awful decision. Cano makes plenty of contact. You need to stay at third and leave him with the bat.

  36. Infamous says:

    Great play by Mauer

  37. handtius says:

That pisses me off. one out with a man on third is better.

    • whozat says:

Seriously. Gardner could tag up on a shitty little popup to span — something Cano could do EASILY.

  38. Mike Pop says:

Mauer has like 8 or 9 senses.

  39. Brett was probably thinking “F U Matt Kemp!!!”

  40. steve (different one) says:

Gardner blowing through the stop sign.

would’ve been smarter to pause and wait for Mauer to commit to throwing to 1st.

    i guess it’s a split second decision

  41. daveg says:

It will all be moot shortly.

  42. dkidd says:

    fun series

  43. charlie says:

fuckin terrible play by gardner, might cost us the game

    • handtius says:

He cost us winning it in the 9th gardner would have easly scored on that wouldbe sac-fly

    • Todd says:

I agree with you and everybody else that it probably was a bad decision. However, I can live with aggressive mistakes that put enough pressure on the defense to make it a “bang-bang” play. If Span even makes a decent play, we all would have been saying the same thing about Matsui tagging on the short fly ball.

  44. handtius says:

    What a fucking bitch.

  45. Kyle says:

I’m sure Elsbury scores there….based on grit factor alone

  46. cjc says:

game over yankees win yankees win oh wait why wasn’t Brett on 3rd

    • Shdwrptr says:

You can’t assume he would have thrown the same pitches or that Cano would have came in with the same mentality if Brett was on 3rd. It was a stupid play but if Mauer had thrown to first like I’m sure everyone here thought he was going to the game would be over right now.

      • cjc says:

there is really no defending that play it was dumb to break for home when the ball is still in Mauers hand no way around it

  47. Doug says:

Looking at the replay of the Maeur play at the plate, it looks like the freaking Matrix with both guys diving at each other.

  48. yankees=warriors says:

Can’t freaking believe this, Gardner over-confident with his speed…

  49. Matt-Pitt says:

And that fly ball would’ve won the game… Gotta pay attention to your third base coach, though I see what he was doing.

Get a quick top of the 10th and Teix or A-Rod will walk it off.

  50. charlie says:

its incredibly frustrating that we would have won there if it wasn’t for friggin dumbass brett gardner

  51. dre says:

because manager clueless has melky bunt on the first pitch

    • steve (different one) says:

      give it a rest.

the bunt should have worked perfectly

    • Matt-Pitt says:

That actually looked like Melky was trying to do it for a basehit. I don’t know if that was called from Girardi.

    • handtius says:

Seriously, I’m sick of this clueless stuff. He started last year and was decimated with injuries all year and had no pitching and started this year the same. give him some time.

      • steve (different one) says:

this guy only pops up to rip Girardi. he adds nothing.

        he’s girardi’s Lanny

      • dre says:

yeah cause no manager is ever decimated by injuries.
just look at his daily decsions and you will understand how clueless he is.

heres one why is he resting cano today?
he really needs a day off? really? ripkin and Gherig are hall of famers who never had a day off..cano is what 27 at most? he doesn’t need a day off and its not like hes slumping or anything. clueless at his best

        • steve (different one) says:

          dude, give it a rest.

          you sound like a moron.

        • handtius says:

wow…you schooled me…He is trying to keep everyone fresh. As much as I appreciate Gherig and Ripkin, they didn’t always help their teams by playing everyday, especially Ripkin.

And I’m so sorry 89 wins wasn’t good enough for a team with a black whole at catcher, no 3rd baseman for an extended period of time and 2 pitchers the whole year.

  52. cjc says:

    Which Veras today?

  53. BklynJT says:

The synchronous reaction by the fans on that called out was hilarious!

  54. dkidd says:

heiniken ad is great until the last shot when it’s obviously not the same cab driver

  55. Mike Pop says:

Mauer just tricked his ass. He knew what he was doing the whole time, Brett fell for it.

  56. NC Saint says:

I’m not somewhere where there’s a TV, but my spider sense says that Michael Kay is using the phrase ‘fallacy of the predetermined outcome’ right now. He’s really proud of that one.

  57. Moshe Mandel says:

Yeah, that was a great play. It was the wrong choice, but that does not take away from how good a play it was by Mauer.

  58. charlie says:

i hope he doesn’t play for the next month

  59. Kevin Greene says:

Just to make a point, if Gardner stays at third cervelli is thrown out at first…. so there would be a man on 3rd with TWO OUTS

    • Doug says:

I don’t know, it looks like he would have beat out the throw.

    • Jamal G. says:

No, Cervelli was safe – Mauer pump-faked.

    • Matt-Pitt says:

If Mauer threw that ball to first, Gardner scores. He was going the whole way. We win the game and it doesn’t matter if Cervilli is out or not.

      • Kevin Greene says:

I am not sure, looking at the replay from when mauer got to the ball if he threw to first, it looked like Cerv was gonna be thrown out…. The argument was if it was a bad play by gardner, so one has to take into consideration what WOULD have happened if he had stopped at third… I do however agree that if mauer throws to first Grit scores no problem.

I just dont think it was an awful play, bc of the alternative 2 outs man on 3rd. But it matters not… WALK OFF IN THE 10TH!!

    • steve (different one) says:

oh, i don’t know if Mauer was going to get Cervelli.

    • Moshe Mandel says:

No, that is not true. Mauer decided not to throw before he knew Gardner was going.

    • BklynJT says:

If Mauer threw to first, I bet Gardner attempts to go home. Who knows what happens, but I think he would of scored.

    • Nady Nation says:

Except he didn’t have a play on Cervelli. Not sure what your point is.

  60. Jamal G. says:

So, Aceves has moved up in the depth chart over Jose Veras.

  61. Cant really blame gardner, he saw the plate open and needed to have a hell of a play by Mauer to get him out.

  62. dkidd says:

gangster gets his 2nd straight win today

  63. Shdwrptr says:

I don’t think Mauer tricked Gardner. I think he saw he had no play and then the second baseman pointed to Gardner coming home. That’s what it looked like since he didn’t even pump fake he stopped halfway through a throw after seeing Cervelli

  64. Pasqua says:

That was a cocky play on Gardner’s part. You have to understand the situation better than that. 1st and 3rd, 1 out, Cano at the plate, you can score on a short fly ball with your speed…and you choose to take matter into your own hands? Foolish.

And, yes, it was obvious that Mauer had decided not to throw to first before he saw Gardner coming, so there would have only been one out.

    • BklynJT says:

It’s obvious after the fact, but it was a great split second decision that a lot of catchers probably dont make.

      • Pasqua says:

Nah, I still say you have to be more aware of the situation BEFORE the play even unfolds. Split second is one thing, but his approach seemed too impulsive.

  65. daveg says:

gangster needs to put on a clinic – “how to dominate with mediocre stuff”

  66. cjc says:

hey pop ups are our thing get your own

  67. Doug says:

This dude who is not afraid to throw strikes, he is a solid dude.

  68. Matt-Pitt says:

Mexican Gangster is the shizzz. He is about to pick up his 2nd win in as many days.

  69. james says:

Wow, nice inning for Veras. Now its time for another A-Rod walk off.

  70. yankees=warriors says:

Just to make the mood lighter, did you guys see some of the Yankees climbing out of the dugout in the background, then back when they saw Gardner was out?
    Kinda funny, LOL~

  71. Stryker says:

man if aceves picks up the win burnett totally gets shafted. pitched one hell of a game today.

    • Steve H says:

I’m sure he’d rather Aceves get the win than anyone on the Twins. He walked 6 guys in 6 2/3, wouldn’t call it shafted.

  72. Moshe Mandel says:

Ok people, you can turn off your TV’s. Tex is sending everybody home happy today. The karma is too good- anniversary of the Giambi game against the Twins.

  73. Nady Nation says:

I’m calling a Teix walkoff. It’s his turn.

  74. Jamal G. says:

    Thanks for showing up, Houston.

  75. cjc says:

alright lets continue the streak of consecutive games allowing a run by Crain

  76. cjc says:

and another 93 mph curveball these pitchers are just sick

  77. Tony says:

    “That’s Crain’s business”

  78. Moshe Mandel says:

    Federer over Nadal. I’m glad.

  79. adeel says:

In gardner’s defense, he probably thought that Mauer is throwing to first and getting Cervelli out… He didn’t have the view that we did, so I think that is why he did it.. It was a split second decision, but in his mind, there were probably going to be two out with him at third.

  80. Shdwrptr says:

  81. BklynJT says:

  82. Matt-Pitt says:

  83. Stryker says:

    JOHNNY FUCKING DAMON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  84. Jamal G. says:

    Take the walk, mutha fuckas.

  85. BigBlueAL says:

  86. DAMON FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  87. cjc says:

at this rate Aceves is going to have 30 wins

  88. Doug says:

  89. handtius says:

    CALLED THAT SHITE!@!!!!!!!!W#!@#!$!@E

  90. Moshe Mandel says:

Is he having a year or what?

  91. V says:

    Melky, ARod, Damon!!!

    Who’s the hero tomorrow??!

  92. BklynJT says:

Gardner’s gotta lend Damon his gf for the night… Actually make that two nights!

  93. Nady Nation says:

Damon sure does love that porch, huh?

  94. Mark says:

  95. mustang says:

    I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

  96. ARX says:

At this point, we need to fit Damon for a cape.

  97. Shdwrptr says:

How bad do the Twins feel now? Losing 3 games in a row they should have won?

    • adeel says:

      could have won.

      • Shdwrptr says:

If they’re relief had been even halfway decent they should have won at least the first game? 3 runs in one inning from Nathan?

        • steve (different one) says:

i wouldn’t say they should have won today.

          • Shdwrptr says:

The reason they didn’t win today was due to both the bullpen and Slowley. Gardenhire didn’t take Slowley out when he should have because he doesn’t trust the bullpen and Slowley lost the game when he broke down after only throwing 85 pitches. He had enough gas to go complete game if he didn’t lose it with the lead.

            • whozat says:

              Also…did he really “lose it”?

He gives up a solo shot, a double and a dinky fly ball that really shouldn’t have been enough to score the run.

Frankly, I would’ve stayed with him.

    • mustang says:

I’m going to tomorrow’s game things don’t look good for me, but I don’t care.

      The Twins aren’t happy.

  98. Christopher says:

It’s hilarious how A-Rod is always at the back of the pile celebrating on his own.

  99. thisisthedavid says:

    Damon 2010

  100. Moshe Mandel says:

High fives to Burnett, Albie to end the 7th, Tomko to end the 8th, Mo and Aceves being awesome, A-Rod, teixeira for flashing the leather, and Johnny flippin Damon.

  101. steve (different one) says:

funny how quickly a season can change…

  102. Jamal G. says:

Heh, Tony Pena called the walk-off.

  103. Steve H says:

A-Rod is ruining this teams chemistry. They’d be better off without him.

  104. Mike Pop says:

    I love A.J.!

  105. BklynJT says:

AJ is such a clown! Im lovin it

  106. Matt-Pitt says:

“How cool would another walk-off be?”

I thought it was pretty awesome.

  107. dkidd says:

    i fucking love this team

  108. V says:

Man, I have Rivera on one of my fantasy teams, and he’s been THIS close to getting Ws two days in a row, lol.

  109. LiveFromNY says:

    Three straight walkoffs! UNBELIEVEABLE

  110. Mike Axisa says:

I could get used to this.

  111. Will (the other one) says:

    Oh, Johnny. Johnny, Johnny, Johnny.

  112. look at melky and arod trying catch damons helmet like two bridesmaids at a wedding.

  113. LiveFromNY says:

Johnny Understatement Damon: “We’re playing well…”

  114. Steve H says:

    Where is Lanny?

  115. Scooter says:

Notice how absent some of our little trolls have been during this streak. I’m absolutely SHOCKED

    AJ completely nailed Damon!

    And Kim’s looking pretty good

  116. thisisthedavid says:

Damon is also the teams voice box. Since he signed he is the most quoted player on the team. Dude is a real leader. I didn’t hear him moan about moving to LF. Simply a legend. I hope he gets a ring with this team!

    • Scooter says:

I agree – Damon seems like a great guy to have in the clubhouse. I know the team doesn’t need another 35+ y.o. guy – but if he’s willing to come back on a short contract (2 yrs?), I’d sure think about it

Crap that was a good win.

Looks like I missed dre – who’s apparently guest-trolling for Lanny

  117. yankees=warriors says:

Man, these past 3 days are definitely shortening my life span!!

  118. BJ says:

can somebody get a brother some OAKTAG!!!

  119. another steve says:

as i predicted in an earlier thread, i got home from work just in time for the walk off.

  120. LiveFromNY says:

I thank the good Mo for making me a Yankee fan.

  121. dkidd says:

we play today, we walk-off win today

    • yankees=warriors says:

For the sake of my heart and the Yankee bullpen, I’d still prefer more conventional wins, LOL!

  122. mustang says:

Not to take anything away from the Yankees wins, but is it me or does the AL central suck.
The Jays have been beating on them all season and the Twins aren’t looking like world beaters.

  123. I like the attitude Burnett has brought to the team. Serious, but relaxed. This is the most fun ive seen a Yankee team have in awhile.

  124. LiveFromNY says:

I like the fact that Girardi is a thinking manager. It doesn’t always work out but he’s thinking and tinkering which is nice.

  125. Scooter says:

Mariano told AJ to get the pie ready for a walkoff.

It’s a combination of players – AJ, Swisher, the young guys, and the vets – that have created a really good clubhouse.

That said, Veras and Ramirez still scare the crap out of me in the pen.

    • cult of basebaal says:

well, within a week, bruney will be back and one of them will very likely be gone …

    • whozat says:

It’s a combination of players – AJ, Swisher, the young guys, and the vets -all the wins in a row that have created a really good clubhouse.

      Fixed that for you.

  126. Quikksand says:

    This team is amazing

  127. LiveFromNY says:

AJ says they watch the replays together and are coming together that way which is good to know. The walkoff celebrations have to help them gel as a group too.

  128. dkidd says:

wang, bruney, nady, posada coming back. tex and alex heating up. melancon and robertson coming up. edwar and veras saying bye-bye. this is going to be a fun summer

  129. YankeeScribe says:

The Yanks have won every series since A-Rod returned. He’s such a chemistry killer… ;-)
