    I like it Mike.

  2. EvoLuTioN says:

    and strike out

  3. Adam says:

    well… balls!

  4. Captain Bawls says:

so why the hell do you bring in rivera there? CC was looking just fine to me.

  5. Charlie says:

    sorry, but i doubt it

  6. Charlie says:
we really should have won this game. Too bad that our bullpen still sucks. If only Cashman wasn’t retarded, mark melancon or somebody else on the farm would be up here to replace the dead weight.

Moot and wrongheaded. If Melancon was up here, we still would have went to Mariano in that situation. Today’s game in now way is a referendum against the bullpen construction.

  7. Matt-Pitt says:

Least show some fight. Set the tone for the game tomorrow.

    • Dorian says:

This means absolutely nothing. If we go down 1-2-3 and Joba pitches a perfect game then it matters not.

      • Matt-Pitt says:

Guess you are right but if the Yanks show they don’t go down easily after the best reliever gives up 4 runs in the previous inning, shows the Rays they are still here to play and nothing comes easy tomorrow.

  8. John says:

Man, tough time against them Rays.

It’s okay. Just win tomorrow and win the Boston series!

  9. Dorian says:

Time for some gritty at bats

  10. BIG BOY says:

trying run on the plate for……. gardner. yipee!

  11. EvoLuTioN says:

    don’t tease me jeter

  12. Chip says:

So I really don’t get people. I seriously think some people expect them to go 162-0. We’ve gone 0-5 w/ RISP and the Rays are hot. We shouldn’t be in this game at all yet everybody complains about how we should be winning this thing no problem. Mo is bound to have bad games, that doesn’t mean you never put him in

  13. Jose says:

Prediction: Yanks do not bring the tying run to the plate.

  14. dkidd says:

    come on johnny!

  15. Drew says:

Remember when the trolls were under their respective bridges?

  16. Mike Pop says:

    Woo Woo!

  17. fresh says:

here we go baby! lets go get this game!

  18. Heh. In the outfield:

    Nick Swisher > B.J. Upton

  19. Mike Axisa says:

I wonder if the shadows had anything to do with that one.

  20. Arman Tamzarian says:

Since Mo is infallible, it means he set this whole thing up! It was meant to be

  21. John says:

On a positive note, the seats behind home plate look pretty full

  22. Some call me...tim says:

    1) CC needs to throw complete games–unless he’s hurtin, 120 pitches.
    2) line drive, line drive, HBP, walk, walkoff homer.

  23. dkidd says:

    here we go

  24. Slugger27 says:

i know the guy is a god out there… but where in gods name was upton playing that he couldnt catch that ball?? geeeeeez

  25. Chip says:

How awesome would a bunt down the third base line be right now?

  26. dkidd says:

please please give us a chance at randy choate!!!!

  27. Mike Pop says:

    Ya Boiiii!!!

  28. Drew says:

    LETS GO!!

Tying run to the plate? I think so.

    Eat that shit, haters.

  32. Chip says:

Wow Mike, you are a prophet

  33. John says:

    OK Tex…you were right Mike

  34. Captain Bawls says:

    WOW..alright, c’mon alex

  35. Stryker says:

    boy was i wrong!!!!

  36. dkidd says:

come on alex. tie game. wanna see aceves swing a bat today

  37. Mike Axisa says:

The Yankees should put me on the payroll. Seriously.

  38. “The Yankees will bring the tying run to the plate in this game.”

MIKE AXISA, YOU THE BOMB IN PHANTOMS, YO!!!!!

  39. V says:

    Wow.

    Now my hopes are up.

  40. Chip says:

A-Rod needs to make up for that booted ball now

  41. BigBlueAL says:

This is incredible. Mike you are a fuckin genius.

  42. Charlie says:

wow, this team has some heart. too bad that we gave up 4 fucking runs in the 9th.

  43. Dorian says:

How funny would it be if A-Rod lined to 2nd and they picked off Tex? LMAO

  44. V says:

Man, that curveball was meat. Wish ARod had cranked it out.

  45. Matt-Pitt says:

Wow… That was a hanger that A-Rod should have crushed

  46. Chip says:

And that was A-Rod’s pitch right there, curve right down the middle

  47. Drew says:

Ha I can’t sit down and shit.

  48. fresh says:

arod is a super guess hitter thats why he gets locked up so much… but when he guesses right!!!!

  49. EvoLuTioN says:

Its either Mike being positive or me being negative that makes the yankees do what they do.

  50. Mike Pop says:

    BOOOOO

  51. Jay says:

    Unclutch.

    Yeah I said it.

  52. Chip says:

If nothing else, we’re killing their bullpen for the next few days

  53. Matt-Pitt says:

    Posada is due

  54. handtius says:

    Po hits one out.

  55. John says:

Man, a grounder but oh well

  56. Arman Tamzarian says:

So who pinch hits for the pitcher, Gardener?

  57. Bob Stone says:

A-Road swung at ball three, four and five before grounding out – UGH!

  58. John says:

Don’t try to go for the big hit, just need a lot of singles…though a HR would be okay :)

  59. Dorian says:

JORGE THIS IS NOT THE TIME FOR GUESSING WITH 2 STRIKES.

  60. fresh says:

cmonnnnn! thats a ball ump! melky again?!?!

  61. dkidd says:

fucking home plate ump is killing us

  62. Charlie says:

if we can somehow hand this game to melky…

  63. V says:

    Gah, I hate this umpire.

  64. fresh says:

see this is wat callint those balls strikes does makes him swing at low garbage! damn umps

  65. Mike Axisa says:

Bah, those were balls three and four, but Posada had to swing because the ump called the previous pitch that low a strike.

  66. EvoLuTioN says:

cmon POSADA, lets NOT GET 2 OUTS

  67. fresh says:

are you kidding me he was basically on the track wtf!!!

  68. Chip says:

Damn, I thought he got it

  69. Drew says:

    C’mon RObbie! We need ya

  70. Charlie says:

    SHIt

  71. dkidd says:

    robbie/swisher = bridge to melky

  72. Mike Axisa says:

    Hughes up in the pen.

  73. pc69 says:

Boy those extra runs given up while Coke was pitch really fucked us.

    Game would be tied.

  74. handtius says:

well, you can’t really hit it much harder then that. bad luck.

  75. Jacob says:

The last pitch of that at bat was the only strike Posada saw.

  76. Chip says:

Sweet, Choate can blow the save

  77. John says:

Damn one out to go…cmon Choate help your old team out

  78. DCR says:

Boy Maddon is so obnoxious with this mix and match shit.

  79. YankeeScribe says:

Just another game that will keep the media chatter about the stadium being a bandbox going…

  80. Jose says:

Why did Cashman ever let Choate get away!! Worst GM ever, we need him for our bullpen!!!

  81. NHYankee62 says:

Kay: Great positioning by the Drays. If they’re playing him short it’s probably over his head?”

    More like common sense!

Of course they’re going to play Posada deep. That’s the only thing that could beat you, why would they play him short???

  82. pc69 says:

man there are lot of GM’s in training in here today. Cashman might lose his job this weekend.

  83. dkidd says:

    come on robbie

  84. V says:

Take the walk take the walk take the walk.

  85. Charlie says:

    that shoulda been ball 4

  86. Chip says:

Right in the zone for Cano

  87. V says:

    Fuck. No luck, whatsoever.

The top of the 9th was the suxor.

  88. Drew says:

Kay, he also misplayed it you fuckin moron.

  89. Mike Pop says:

WHY WAS HE PLAYING SO FAR BACK, MICHAEL KAY!

  90. Chip says:

Shit, I thought he got that one

  91. Fuck you BJ Upton!!!!!!!!!! Argh!

  92. John says:

FUCK!! We had some hard hit balls though.

  93. handtius says:

fuck man, 2 rockets. talk about unlucky.

    • pc69 says:

not unlucky, outplayed and out coached today.

      • handtius says:

No they weren’t. not at all. Mo couldn’t get it done. If he gets it done, we win. How is that out couched?

        • pc69 says:

Why was CC pulled? Why let Mo go as long as he did, he did not have it today, you could see that from the first two batters?

          • handtius says:

            Well, lets see:

            1. It’s the ninth, it’s tied and you have the best Closer in the history of the game.

            2. He’s Mo, you’d figure, he’d get out of it.

Why not take out CC before he gives up 5 runs…WHAT AN IDIOT MANAGER WE HAVE!!1!,1112E1!1!!

  94. Mike Axisa says:

Drat. Oh well, go get ‘em tomorrow.

  95. Matt-Pitt says:

Can’t hit it any harder than that.

  96. pc69 says:

    well shit. back to 2nd

  97. fresh says:

oh man thats so unlucky! we better take the next 2 in embarrising fashion cuz losing this game was crap lol

  98. NHYankee62 says:

At least we worked their pen over.

Win tomorrow. Later fellow Yankee fans and all loser trolls.

  99. Dorian says:

I don’t give a damn what the stat book say. WE WON THAT GAME

  100. Charlie says:

dammit robbie, o well, this game is not his fault. Mo blew it, plain and simple.

  101. BIG BOY says:

    loss is on the bullpen.

  102. DCR says:

What a joke that Rodriguez, Posada, and Cano can’t get Teixeira in. Frustrating loss.

  103. BigBlueAL says:

I wander how many runs the Rays wouldve scored if they didnt have 4 bench players in the starting lineup.

  104. BigBlueAL says:

Zobrist did the most damage, but he is having a good season so far.

  105. Bob Stone says:

Why did the Rays finally figure their outfielders were playing too shallow today? Why Today? They’ve been shallow all year. If they were playing this game at normal depth the Yanks would have won on Posada’s fly and Cano’s fly. Both would have been doubles. Did Maddon finally figure it out?

  106. Charlie says:

do i drop john danks/aaron harang to get edwin jackson/ervin santana/jered weaver in fantasy?

  107. Jose says:

I don’t think this game was mismanaged by Girardi. Sabathia wasn’t looking amazing today. He did give up 5 runs. You have Mariano as your closer, you go to him in the tie game. If Girardi had left Sabathia in and he lost, the game was mismanaged because he didn’t use Mo. If he brings in Mo and he loses it, the game was mismanaged because he didn’t keep Sabathia in.

Everyone would’ve criticized Girardi no matter what. That is quite a bad position to be in. Yet, the Yankees are still even with the Red Sox in W-L as of right now.

    • Charlie says:

      agreed

    • handtius says:

      agreed #2

    • BIG BOY says:

that was the right move to bring mo in. mo lost the game, plain and simple. he just didn’t have it.

    • NHYankee62 says:

The only problem I have is with taking Mo out to bring in Coke.

Even on his worst day; Mo is much better than anything else in that bullpen!

You win and lose with your best. Mo still gives you the best chance to get out of the 9th at 7-5; NOT Phil Coke!

      • Jose says:

Mo wasn’t looking great. Girardi still has to protect Mo. Why make him throw more pitches than he needs to if he doesn’t look sharp. Most manages will pull their closers if they give up 2 runs in a tie game in the top of the 9th. You can’t let him throw so many pitches in what may be a futile attempt.

        • NHYankee62 says:

Yeah, but he needed one more out. It was a 2 run game, still within striking distance.

Give Mo the chance to end the inning instead of going to Mr. “I don’t know my role/the ump squeezed me in Cleveland” Phil Coke.

If Mo gave up another hit and it was at 3 or 4 runs, then take out the while flag.

          • Jose says:

Mo had faced six batters. He had his chance. I would rather Girardi take him out of the game earlier rather than later.

I still believe Girardi has to take out Mo in that situation. Mo said in the post game that the manager “wanted him for tomorrow”. If he leaves him in maybe he isn’t available in a close game tomorrow. If that happened people would be complaining about why Mo wasn’t available.

            • NHYankee62 says:

              Mo >>>>>Coke.

I’d rather still have a shot at winning the game in the bottom of the 9th.

I will say though that since CC was at only 101 pitches and rolling along, that he should’ve started the 9th.

    • yankees=warriors says:

I don’t blame Joe at all. This game is all on Mo.

      • NHYankee62 says:

Really. It’s ok for CC to give the lead right back with the 3 run bomb?

Not exactly his best start of the season. Yes, he rebounded by giving us 8 innings, but surely he can’t get a pass?

        • yankees=warriors says:

          Ah, you’re right.
Tend to forget what happened earlier when the team is able to tie the score. Sabathia was disappointing as well.

So the game is on CC and Mo. We were betrayed by our 2 most trusted pitchers!

          • NHYankee62 says:

So what do you want to do; take them out and shoot them??

The game is on everyone, as a team. It happens.

  108. Frank says:

Rays make 4 errors and Yanks can’t take advantage, They only had 2 hits through the 7th. And Coke has gone flat really quick. Yes, Mo didn’t have it today, but when he gets pulled it’s only 6-5 and 2 out. Coke comes in to face Crawford- he needs to get him there if he wants to stick around. Instead, he gives up the hit, the 7th run and then 2 more. This BP has to be a real concern now.

  109. Dorian says:

ANYONE WHO CRITICIZES THIS TEAM TODAY IS A MORON!!!! THEY PLAYED AWFUL TODAY, HAD THEIR BACK BROKEN NOT ONCE BUT TWICE. ONCE WITH THEIR STUD ACE ON THE MOUND AND ONCE WITH THE BEST CLOSER IN THE GAME ON THE MOUND GIVIN UP 4 RUNS AND THEY STILL, STILL, BROUGHT THE TYING RUN TO THE PLATE. DON’T BE LIKE FRANCESA.

    SINCERELY,
    MY RANT

  110. alan says:

Shit, this must be the worst game of the year, no?
What a meltdown by Rivera. Poor Girardi, close to no one he can trust in the bullpen.

They could have win it with the bats though, and they had a good chance. Since all the fielders were guarding against extra base hits, Posada and Cano should have tried to hit singles! But of course, they all wanted to be heroes and hit HRs.

Well, tomorrow is a new day/game. Hope we have a good lead early on and that Joba’s 1st inning problems doesn’t show again.

  111. Drew says:

    http://riveraveblues.com/2009/.....ent-418115
Apparently Mo felt the same way. He just said I’m not out there to IBB guys, it was Joe’s decision not mine.
Doesn’t matter now, I just don’t understand the logic, Mo>>>>Hitters.

    • Rob H. says:

Mo can say whatever he wants but he shouldn’t be throwing Joe under the bus. He still couldn’t get 3 outs when he needed too. He needs to acknowledge that he blew it and not put it off on someone else. So he was told to walk the guy, then go out there and get the next batter.

  112. stuart says:

the logic is longoria is great. upton is hot but he is not great.

    simple.

the 2nd guesses are comical.. longoria leads the majors in rbi’s, upton has about 30 or less…

why do people 2nd guess a manager when the players win or loss the game???keep mo in and he can’t pitch sunday because he threw to many pitches….

keep CC in and he gives up a leadoff jack and you are all whining why no mo…………….

    • Tom Zig says:

It just goes to show how awesome a hitter Longoria is. Tip your cap to him that he is one of the very few (31) to be intentionally walked by Mo.

  113. stuart says:

Mo did not throw Girardi under the bus. If you take his comments in context and demeanor who was basically saying I am confident I never want to IBB anyone ever.

that is what you would expect him to say, the NY media just needs or wants to stir things up.

It was totally harmless comments. The bottom line is the pitchers gave up a ton of runs today; dillow, zobrist, and aybar killed them. the bats did not come thru enough and they lost.

matsui had a big AB and he blew it and Cano almost never comes thru…

  114. Arod, all the time says:

If Joba was relieving instead of being overmatched as a starter, today would not have happened, sorry to say. Also looks like Rivera is cooked, which is a shame. I always liked that guy.

    • Mike Axisa says:

Wait, what? That’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read. Joba’s 3.71 ERA would be the best in Boston’s rotation by over a quarter of a run, so he’s hardly overmatched.

    • donttradecano says:

Right. Because they would have went to Joba over mo.

    • Tom Zig says:

Silly Sox fan. Remember kiddies, crack is wack

      • Joe D. says:

BoSox boy is just jealous that the Yankees aren’t keeping one of their top-three starters jammed in the minors.
        Buchholz >>> Penny/Wakefield/Matsuzaka.
But, hey, why bother putting your best team on the field in what promises to be a tight 3-way race?

God, I hope the Sox miss the playoffs by a single game.
