It was a calculated and intelligent gamble that just didn’t work out. Had we left CC in and had he given up a run, you would all be screaming “Why the hell didn’t to go to Mariano there?!?!?”
I disagree. We’ve all seen that Mo is not himself in non-save situations. I mean, sure, it’s a situation where if Mo goes 1-2-3 you don’t really think about it, but CC was only at 103 pitches and was cruising. This is the second time we’ve come back to tie a game with Tampa only to have Mo blow it. (5/7)
Charlie says:
we really should have won this game. Too bad that our bullpen still sucks. If only Cashman wasn’t retarded, mark melancon or somebody else on the farm would be up here to replace the dead weight.
Moot and wrongheaded. If Melancon was up here, we still would have went to Mariano in that situation. Today’s game in now way is a referendum against the bullpen construction.
I’ve come to the realization that people just like to complain. It doesn’t matter that the Yankees have the best record in the AL, or that Mariano is the best relief pitcher ever. People will always find something to complain about – and logic and facts won’t change that.
It’s not this game in particular. Should we have won this game? Yes. Obviously we would have still brought Mo in and he would have gotten hit. But, there is no reason that jose veras should be on the team
Guess you are right but if the Yanks show they don’t go down easily after the best reliever gives up 4 runs in the previous inning, shows the Rays they are still here to play and nothing comes easy tomorrow.
So I really don’t get people. I seriously think some people expect them to go 162-0. We’ve gone 0-5 w/ RISP and the Rays are hot. We shouldn’t be in this game at all yet everybody complains about how we should be winning this thing no problem. Mo is bound to have bad games, that doesn’t mean you never put him in
YOU MORON!!!!! TWO OF THOSE GUYS MADE A GUY WHO NEVER PLAYS DEEP, PLAY DEEP AND HAVE TO TURN HIS BACK TO GET THE BALL. JESUS CHRIST WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE SOMETIMES?
It is very tough to come back down 4 runs in the bottom of the ninth when you have the greatest closer in history break open the tie game. There has to be some deflated emotions.
if they went 1-2-3 you would have a point, but they got 2 guys on, huge hit from Tex, down 2 runs with 0 outs- i dont think Alex, Jorge and Cano were thinking about Mariano at the plate
Why did the Rays finally figure their outfielders were playing too shallow today? Why Today? They’ve been shallow all year. If they were playing this game at normal depth the Yanks would have won on Posada’s fly and Cano’s fly. Both would have been doubles. Did Maddon finally figure it out?
I don’t think this game was mismanaged by Girardi. Sabathia wasn’t looking amazing today. He did give up 5 runs. You have Mariano as your closer, you go to him in the tie game. If Girardi had left Sabathia in and he lost, the game was mismanaged because he didn’t use Mo. If he brings in Mo and he loses it, the game was mismanaged because he didn’t keep Sabathia in.
Everyone would’ve criticized Girardi no matter what. That is quite a bad position to be in. Yet, the Yankees are still even with the Red Sox in W-L as of right now.
Mo wasn’t looking great. Girardi still has to protect Mo. Why make him throw more pitches than he needs to if he doesn’t look sharp. Most manages will pull their closers if they give up 2 runs in a tie game in the top of the 9th. You can’t let him throw so many pitches in what may be a futile attempt.
Mo had faced six batters. He had his chance. I would rather Girardi take him out of the game earlier rather than later.
I still believe Girardi has to take out Mo in that situation. Mo said in the post game that the manager “wanted him for tomorrow”. If he leaves him in maybe he isn’t available in a close game tomorrow. If that happened people would be complaining about why Mo wasn’t available.
Rays make 4 errors and Yanks can’t take advantage, They only had 2 hits through the 7th. And Coke has gone flat really quick. Yes, Mo didn’t have it today, but when he gets pulled it’s only 6-5 and 2 out. Coke comes in to face Crawford- he needs to get him there if he wants to stick around. Instead, he gives up the hit, the 7th run and then 2 more. This BP has to be a real concern now.
ANYONE WHO CRITICIZES THIS TEAM TODAY IS A MORON!!!! THEY PLAYED AWFUL TODAY, HAD THEIR BACK BROKEN NOT ONCE BUT TWICE. ONCE WITH THEIR STUD ACE ON THE MOUND AND ONCE WITH THE BEST CLOSER IN THE GAME ON THE MOUND GIVIN UP 4 RUNS AND THEY STILL, STILL, BROUGHT THE TYING RUN TO THE PLATE. DON’T BE LIKE FRANCESA.
Shit, this must be the worst game of the year, no?
What a meltdown by Rivera. Poor Girardi, close to no one he can trust in the bullpen.
They could have win it with the bats though, and they had a good chance. Since all the fielders were guarding against extra base hits, Posada and Cano should have tried to hit singles! But of course, they all wanted to be heroes and hit HRs.
Well, tomorrow is a new day/game. Hope we have a good lead early on and that Joba’s 1st inning problems doesn’t show again.
Since all the fielders were guarding against extra base hits, Posada and Cano should have tried to hit singles! But of course, they all wanted to be heroes and hit HRs.
Batshit insane. Cano and Posada weren’t trying to hit singles or trying to hit homers. They were trying to hit the ball hard. THAT’S ALL YOU EVER DO; TRY TO HIT THE BALL HARD.

Apparently Mo felt the same way. He just said I’m not out there to IBB guys, it was Joe’s decision not mine.
Doesn’t matter now, I just don’t understand the logic, Mo>>>>Hitters.
Mo can say whatever he wants but he shouldn’t be throwing Joe under the bus. He still couldn’t get 3 outs when he needed too. He needs to acknowledge that he blew it and not put it off on someone else. So he was told to walk the guy, then go out there and get the next batter.
Mo did not throw Girardi under the bus. If you take his comments in context and demeanor who was basically saying I am confident I never want to IBB anyone ever.
that is what you would expect him to say, the NY media just needs or wants to stir things up.
It was totally harmless comments. The bottom line is the pitchers gave up a ton of runs today; dillow, zobrist, and aybar killed them. the bats did not come thru enough and they lost.
matsui had a big AB and he blew it and Cano almost never comes thru…
If Joba was relieving instead of being overmatched as a starter, today would not have happened, sorry to say. Also looks like Rivera is cooked, which is a shame. I always liked that guy.
Wait, what? That’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read. Joba’s 3.71 ERA would be the best in Boston’s rotation by over a quarter of a run, so he’s hardly overmatched.
BoSox boy is just jealous that the Yankees aren’t keeping one of their top-three starters jammed in the minors.
Buchholz >>> Penny/Wakefield/Matsuzaka.
But, hey, why bother putting your best team on the field in what promises to be a tight 3-way race?
God, I hope the Sox miss the playoffs by a single game.
I like it Mike.
and strike out
Worst fan ever, or, whatever the hell you are.
Please do us all a favor, and pick up your monitor, and slam it on the ground, you worthless piece of shit.
Thanks!
you remind me of something, oh yeah, a troll.
it happens.
I rather not have expectations and then get dissapointed.
its easier to celebrate when we thrive.
Yeah, horrible way of living life. go root for the redsox.
ORLY?
They do better when i expect bad things anyway, i’ll keep at it
well… balls!
so why the hell do you bring in rivera there? CC was looking just fine to me.
I know. It’s not like Mo is amazing or anything.
i would have done the same thing. It’s Mo for god’s sake, but he just fucked up really badly.
Mo is great, but he’s sat idle for quite some days now.
He last pitched May 29th i think.
Plus Mo is usually not Mo in non-save situations.
C.C. was CRUISING. retiring 6 of the last 7.
Girardi messed up.
He pitched two days ago. And two days before that.
oh i see it now, its under the june section in his game log
June 1 and june 4.
k ty
Shhhh, don’t let petty trivialities like facts get in the way of his irrationally retarded fictional narrative!
what happened to coke getting crawford out eh?
Congrats, you were right.
I hope those extra runs the other team scored on us and your smug sense of satisfaction keep you warm at night.
Even assuming that he was rusty, what good does not pitching him do? That would just make him more rusty when they went to use him.
rust doesn’t matter when he comes in a save chance
Because Mariano likely would have been better.
It was a calculated and intelligent gamble that just didn’t work out. Had we left CC in and had he given up a run, you would all be screaming “Why the hell didn’t to go to Mariano there?!?!?”
I disagree. We’ve all seen that Mo is not himself in non-save situations. Yeah, but that’s TOTALLY NOT AT ALL WHAT YOU WERE SAYING.
So you’re just complaining to complain? Veras didn’t even come into the game.
Least show some fight. Set the tone for the game tomorrow.
This means absolutely nothing. If we go down 1-2-3 and Joba pitches a perfect game then it matters not.
Guess you are right but if the Yanks show they don’t go down easily after the best reliever gives up 4 runs in the previous inning, shows the Rays they are still here to play and nothing comes easy tomorrow.
Man, tough time against them Rays.
It’s okay. Just win tomorrow and win the Boston series!
Time for some gritty at bats
trying run on the plate for……. gardner. yipee!
don’t tease me jeter
So I really don’t get people. I seriously think some people expect them to go 162-0. We’ve gone 0-5 w/ RISP and the Rays are hot. We shouldn’t be in this game at all yet everybody complains about how we should be winning this thing no problem. Mo is bound to have bad games, that doesn’t mean you never put him in
Exactly.
Prediction: Yanks do not bring the tying run to the plate.
Go away.
Do you need a diaper right now? The pee is starting to run down your leg
Why do you have to personally attack me when all I did was make a prediction?
Far Far away.
How badly do you feel right now?
Looks like Mike was right…
Well. I admit I was wrong.
Fail much?
come on johnny!
Remember when the trolls were under their respective bridges?
God I miss that.
Woo Woo!
here we go baby! lets go get this game!
Heh. In the outfield:
Nick Swisher > B.J. Upton
Nice.
I wonder if the shadows had anything to do with that one.
Since Mo is infallible, it means he set this whole thing up! It was meant to be
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Predetermination
On a positive note, the seats behind home plate look pretty full
Can we begin using this as a determinate of the state of the economy?
1) CC needs to throw complete games–unless he’s hurtin, 120 pitches.
2) line drive, line drive, HBP, walk, walkoff homer.
No, CC does not always need to throw complete games
here we go
i know the guy is a god out there… but where in gods name was upton playing that he couldnt catch that ball?? geeeeeez
How awesome would a bunt down the third base line be right now?
please please give us a chance at randy choate!!!!
Ya Boiiii!!!
u da mon Mike.
TEX!!!
cmon ALEX!!!!!!!!!
LETS GO!!
Tying run to the plate? I think so.
Eat that shit, haters.
IETC
Wow Mike, you are a prophet
OK Tex…you were right Mike
WOW..alright, c’mon alex
boy was i wrong!!!!
come on alex. tie game. wanna see aceves swing a bat today
The Yankees should put me on the payroll. Seriously.
Agreed
+1
Wait a second! It’s your fault we were down 5-3 anyway!
“The Yankees will bring the tying run to the plate in this game.”
MIKE AXISA, YOU THE BOMB IN PHANTOMS, YO!!!!!
Recheck the Nostradamus stuff.
Mike doesn’t leave the TV, CC gets complete game win…
Nice one Jay.
Wow.
Now my hopes are up.
A-Rod needs to make up for that booted ball now
This is incredible. Mike you are a fuckin genius.
wow, this team has some heart. too bad that we gave up 4 fucking runs in the 9th.
How funny would it be if A-Rod lined to 2nd and they picked off Tex? LMAO
Not funny?
Just lightning the mood dude.
By darkening it.
Needs more thunder…
Yeah, I’m gonna also go with “not funny”.
Man, that curveball was meat. Wish ARod had cranked it out.
Wow… That was a hanger that A-Rod should have crushed
And that was A-Rod’s pitch right there, curve right down the middle
Ha I can’t sit down and shit.
that don’t sound right, you know what i mean
Then… how do you shit?
you shit standing up?
arod is a super guess hitter thats why he gets locked up so much… but when he guesses right!!!!
Its either Mike being positive or me being negative that makes the yankees do what they do.
Please don’t give yourself any credit in this, you’re just being a douchebag
http://bajan.files.wordpress.c.....alypse.jpg
i’ll take it all day everyday if it gets results
again, you’re giving yourself credit for something you have absolutely nothing to do with
“Please don’t give yourself any credit in this, you’re just being a douchebag”
I have nothing to add, I just wanted to repeat that to make sure everyone heard it.
rinse and repeat.
I’ll go with the former
BOOOOO
Urge to kill… rising…
Was a joke.
damn Cowboy fans, you never know
You’re now on my list, Popavero…
Whatever, I can handle danger.
Unclutch.
Yeah I said it.
If nothing else, we’re killing their bullpen for the next few days
Posada is due
Po hits one out.
Ill get on that bandwagon.
Bases loaded for… Melky?
Even better
That’s my back up plan.
Man, a grounder but oh well
So who pinch hits for the pitcher, Gardener?
Moot.
Their getting there
They’ll win by the time they get there.
Correct, Im an idiot.
Not an issue now, but it could have been 9-8 Tampa with the bases loaded and Coke due up.
Time for some lazy, going through the motions Dominicans to win this freaking thing.
Yeah, I hate when they do that. good for nothin’ loafs.
A-Road swung at ball three, four and five before grounding out – UGH!
Don’t try to go for the big hit, just need a lot of singles…though a HR would be okay
JORGE THIS IS NOT THE TIME FOR GUESSING WITH 2 STRIKES.
i dont think jorge needs your batting tips
cmonnnnn! thats a ball ump! melky again?!?!
fucking home plate ump is killing us
if we can somehow hand this game to melky…
Gah, I hate this umpire.
see this is wat callint those balls strikes does makes him swing at low garbage! damn umps
Bah, those were balls three and four, but Posada had to swing because the ump called the previous pitch that low a strike.
cmon POSADA, lets NOT GET 2 OUTS
are you kidding me he was basically on the track wtf!!!
and michael makes it seem like maddon is a genius for making him stand there lol gosh thats luck if i ever saw it in my life
It’s not luck, it’s no-doubles-defense. What basically every manager would do.
Kay makes mountains out of molehills.
Damn, I thought he got it
C’mon RObbie! We need ya
SHIt
robbie/swisher = bridge to melky
IETC
Hughes up in the pen.
he shouldn’t be there. I really hope Wang pitches great his next outing, so we could get phil work in AAA.
incase you didnt hear Hughes is staying in the pen until Bruney comes back
Boy those extra runs given up while Coke was pitch really fucked us.
Game would be tied.
yea, but oh well
True. But, that was Mo’s mess, not Coke’s.
well, you can’t really hit it much harder then that. bad luck.
The last pitch of that at bat was the only strike Posada saw.
Sweet, Choate can blow the save
Damn one out to go…cmon Choate help your old team out
Boy Maddon is so obnoxious with this mix and match shit.
Just another game that will keep the media chatter about the stadium being a bandbox going…
Why did Cashman ever let Choate get away!! Worst GM ever, we need him for our bullpen!!!
this was a joke right?
Why? Now he closed the game out for the Rays.
Kay: Great positioning by the Drays. If they’re playing him short it’s probably over his head?”
More like common sense!
Of course they’re going to play Posada deep. That’s the only thing that could beat you, why would they play him short???
michael kay is such a dumbass
Michael Kay is easily impressed by the routine and the mundane.
man there are lot of GM’s in training in here today. Cashman might lose his job this weekend.
I have a plan to make the bench better.
I’ll start Gardner in left and Pena in right everyday.
Make my bench better.
Heh.
Was that a joke? doesn’t even make any sense.
See, their not on the bench anymore
come on robbie
Take the walk take the walk take the walk.
that shoulda been ball 4
Right in the zone for Cano
Fuck. No luck, whatsoever.
The top of the 9th was the suxor.
Kay, he also misplayed it you fuckin moron.
WHY WAS HE PLAYING SO FAR BACK, MICHAEL KAY!
Shit, I thought he got that one
Fuck you BJ Upton!!!!!!!!!! Argh!
FUCK!! We had some hard hit balls though.
fuck man, 2 rockets. talk about unlucky.
not unlucky, outplayed and out coached today.
No they weren’t. not at all. Mo couldn’t get it done. If he gets it done, we win. How is that out couched?
Why was CC pulled? Why let Mo go as long as he did, he did not have it today, you could see that from the first two batters?
Well, lets see:
1. It’s the ninth, it’s tied and you have the best Closer in the history of the game.
2. He’s Mo, you’d figure, he’d get out of it.
Why not take out CC before he gives up 5 runs…WHAT AN IDIOT MANAGER WE HAVE!!1!,1112E1!1!!
Drat. Oh well, go get ‘em tomorrow.
Can’t hit it any harder than that.
well shit. back to 2nd
oh man thats so unlucky! we better take the next 2 in embarrising fashion cuz losing this game was crap lol
next 1 i should say
At least we worked their pen over.
Win tomorrow. Later fellow Yankee fans and all loser trolls.
I don’t give a damn what the stat book say. WE WON THAT GAME
dammit robbie, o well, this game is not his fault. Mo blew it, plain and simple.
loss is on the bullpen.
loss in on mariano*
What a joke that Rodriguez, Posada, and Cano can’t get Teixeira in. Frustrating loss.
Well, they did put up 7 runs, that’s pretty damned good
I know but it still makes me shake my head that the middle of the order can’t plate a guy at second with no outs.
that run doesnt even tie the game so its irrelevant, they needed to get on and get driven in as well
YOU MORON!!!!! TWO OF THOSE GUYS MADE A GUY WHO NEVER PLAYS DEEP, PLAY DEEP AND HAVE TO TURN HIS BACK TO GET THE BALL. JESUS CHRIST WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE SOMETIMES?
I don’t even understand it.
This comment I mean.
Oh it’s frustrating, but the team fought pretty hard, tomorrow’s another day
posada and cano hit rockets
wouldn’t have mattered, would have needed 3, not one.
You really can’t blame them here at all. It definitely was frustrating, though
I wander how many runs the Rays wouldve scored if they didnt have 4 bench players in the starting lineup.
I’ve been WANDERING that one myself!
that dill guy had like 10 hits
Zobrist did the most damage, but he is having a good season so far.
Yea he probably realized it right after he finally figured out how to correctly submit the lineup.

do i drop john danks/aaron harang to get edwin jackson/ervin santana/jered weaver in fantasy?
I don’t think this game was mismanaged by Girardi. Sabathia wasn’t looking amazing today. He did give up 5 runs. You have Mariano as your closer, you go to him in the tie game. If Girardi had left Sabathia in and he lost, the game was mismanaged because he didn’t use Mo. If he brings in Mo and he loses it, the game was mismanaged because he didn’t keep Sabathia in.
Everyone would’ve criticized Girardi no matter what. That is quite a bad position to be in. Yet, the Yankees are still even with the Red Sox in W-L as of right now.
agreed
Doubly agreed
agreed #2
that was the right move to bring mo in. mo lost the game, plain and simple. he just didn’t have it.
The only problem I have is with taking Mo out to bring in Coke.
Even on his worst day; Mo is much better than anything else in that bullpen!
You win and lose with your best. Mo still gives you the best chance to get out of the 9th at 7-5; NOT Phil Coke!
Yeah, but he needed one more out. It was a 2 run game, still within striking distance.
Give Mo the chance to end the inning instead of going to Mr. “I don’t know my role/the ump squeezed me in Cleveland” Phil Coke.
If Mo gave up another hit and it was at 3 or 4 runs, then take out the while flag.
Mo >>>>>Coke.
I’d rather still have a shot at winning the game in the bottom of the 9th.
I will say though that since CC was at only 101 pitches and rolling along, that he should’ve started the 9th.
I don’t blame Joe at all. This game is all on Mo.
Really. It’s ok for CC to give the lead right back with the 3 run bomb?
Not exactly his best start of the season. Yes, he rebounded by giving us 8 innings, but surely he can’t get a pass?
Ah, you’re right.
Tend to forget what happened earlier when the team is able to tie the score. Sabathia was disappointing as well.
So the game is on CC and Mo. We were betrayed by our 2 most trusted pitchers!
So what do you want to do; take them out and shoot them??
The game is on everyone, as a team. It happens.
This BP has to be a real concern now.
dont blame Coke, its ok to blame Mariano when he blows the game
I know Mo didn’t have it. But Coke faced 4 batters before he could get the third out. He’s got to do better than that if wants to stick.
Coke faced 2 batters

No, not the worst. Just another L, what can ya do…
I would say the 22 – about 4 loss was the worst
We were really bad defensively though
I’d say the loss against Boston after we led by 6 runs was the worse of the season
Since all the fielders were guarding against extra base hits, Posada and Cano should have tried to hit singles! But of course, they all wanted to be heroes and hit HRs.

the logic is longoria is great. upton is hot but he is not great.
simple.
the 2nd guesses are comical.. longoria leads the majors in rbi’s, upton has about 30 or less…
why do people 2nd guess a manager when the players win or loss the game???keep mo in and he can’t pitch sunday because he threw to many pitches….
keep CC in and he gives up a leadoff jack and you are all whining why no mo…………….
It just goes to show how awesome a hitter Longoria is. Tip your cap to him that he is one of the very few (31) to be intentionally walked by Mo.
Mo did not throw Girardi under the bus. If you take his comments in context and demeanor who was basically saying I am confident I never want to IBB anyone ever.
