Lots and lots and lots of rain

By

Chad Jennings says that both George Kontos & JB Cox have been placed on the DL. He also mentions that Chris Garcia is done for the year after having elbow surgery. In six years with the organization, Garcia’s thrown just 290.2 innings over 67 appearances (55 starts).

Triple-A Scranton (5-1 win over Syracuse)
Kevin Russo: 2 for 5, 1 R, 1 3B, 1 K – still hitting a cool .350
Austin Jackson: 0 for 5, 2 K – www.sadtrombone.com
Colin Curtis, Justin Leone & Chris Stewart: all 1 for 4 – Curtis K’ed … Stewart doubled, drove in a run & scored the plate
Shelley Duncan: 2 for 3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 BB
Juan Miranda: 0 for 3, 1 BB, 1 E (fielding)
John Rodriguez: 0 for 4, 1 K
Eric Duncan: 3 for 4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 K - had been 7 for his last 57 (.123)
Romulo Sanchez: 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 4-2 GB/FB – 31 of 52 pitches were strikes (59.6%) … can’t complain about that spot start
Paul Bush: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 2-4 GB/FB – 30 of 43 pitches were strikes (69.8%)
Edwar Ramirez: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 0-2 GB/FB – 26 of 38 pitches were strikes (68.4%)
Jon Albaladejo: 1.1 IP, zeroes, 1 K, 1-2 GB/FB – 7 of 8 pitches were strikes … just eight pitches to get four outs, including a K? sign me up

Double-A Trenton had their game suspended in the middle of the second inning due to rain. They’ll finish this one up tomorrow, so I’ll update the stats then.

High-A Tampa was washed out. This is St. Lucie’s last trip into Tampa this year, so they’ll probably play two at some point this weekend.

Low-A Charleston (5-0 loss to Savannah)
Jose Pirela: 1 for 4, 1 K, 1 E (missed catch)
Melky Mesa: 3 for 4, 1 K – threw a runner out at home from RF … 6 for 9 since the break
Chase Weems: 1 for 3, 1 BB, 2 K
Everyone else: ombined 0 for 20, 5 BB, 2 K – Addison Maruszak, Garrison Lassiter & Tommy Baldridge all drew one walk, Mike Lyon drew two
Casey Erickson: 5.1 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HB, 7-7 GB/FB
Dan Kapala: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 2-2 GB/FB
Pat Venditte: 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 1-1 GB/FB - just his second walk of the year, first since May 13th … counting the All-Star game, he’s allowed four runs in his last 3.1 IP

Short Season Staten Island‘s game was delayed by rain, and is taking forever to complete. Here’s the box score, I can’t wait around to write up the update. Sorry.

The Rookie GCL Yanks were rained out. They’ll make this game up as part of a July 7th doubleheader.

I was pissed Trenton got PP’d, I was looking forward to seeing Z-Mac’s line…

  2. Zach says:

I’ll be excited about Garcia when I see him in the Bronx

  3. RalphieD says:

seeing gardner succeed now in the majors is even more reason for me to worry less about ajax…give him time…give him patience…and watch what you get!

  4. Jim says:

    Scranton WON that game guys.

Also, Colin Curtis made the most amazing catch in center that I’ve ever seen watching baseball.

  5. Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

Going into tonight’s game, Staten Island is hitting a amooth .176 as a team. Awesome.
Also, it looks like Melky II Electric Boogaloo is tired of playing in South Carolina. He’s looking at that anemic outfield in Tampa and licking his chops.

  6. Venditte just hasn’t been the same since that article in The Times. I blame them.

  7. cult of basebaal says:

Elam totally living up to advanced billing:

    1IP 3Ws 1K

  8. Jake H says:

McAllister had a good line in the 2 innings he pitched. I’m disappointed in all the rain. Following the minors is one thing I like to do while watching the Yankee game.

  9. So first prolonged slump for A-Jax. Let’s see how he bounces back.

  10. Eirias says:

    Any Spahn or Sain sightings?

Is Chris Garcia the real Carol Pavano??

  14. godfather says:

i’d love to see jg use his best defensive outfield daily since damon needs to just dh and keep the legs in shape; he has lost perception in the field as lots of older guys have (reggie and canseco prime examples of athletes who went from assets to liabilities out there)………how about
jeter/damon/teix/arod/cano/jorge/swish/melky/gardy……the defense afforded ajb tonight was the uplifting stuff that got him through treacherous times; melky’s catches snuffed out possible uprisings…and the gap between him in left and little mercury in center is quick to close…it’s what nyy starters deserve…not to mention us
