Brackman struggles yet again

By Mike Axisa

One year ago today on DotF, Alberto Gonzalez hit a walk-off jack in the 12th inning against Toledo.

Inexplicably, Jesus Montero was not named Eastern League Player of the Week. I guess hitting .391 with a double and four homers doesn’t compare to .379 with four doubles, one triple and one homer anymore.

Garrett Patterson was placed back on the DL. It was fun while it lasted, even if it was just one appearance.

The Fallen Phoenix says:

Maybe they figured Montero wouldn’t be in the Eastern League anymore when the award was bestowed?

RAB poster says:

How the hell did Montero not get player of the week? That dude is awesome.

Mike Pop says:

I smell something fishy.

Double-J says:

That would be the mahi mahi, just ignore it.

emac2 says:

Is that a moon or a mardi gras thing?

For lack of a more creative name.. Alex says:

Is there anything wrong with Brackman’s stuff rite now, or is he just struggling? Is his velocity the same as earlier in the year?

Steve H says:

Best 0′fer I’ve seen out of A-Jax all year.

Doug says:

agreed. i’d take that boxscore every game from here on out

Stephen says:

that would mean no more hits, right?

Doug says:

but lots of walks and no Ks….bring it on

Steve H says:
Mike Pop says:

Jim rice is not impressed.

Tony says:

He’s in the minor leagues. The price is wrong, Bob.

Teix is the Man says:

Obviously, nobody is untradeable, but the Yanks would have to be overwhelmed to deal Z-Mac, right?

Johan Iz My Brohan says:

Brackman is dead to me.

I like the 3 walks from Ajax.

Excellent performance by Melancon, DFA the Artist Formally Known As Tomko and bring him up.

Seems like Montero is definitely getting the catching thing down.

Trenton defense is a mess, too bad for Z-Mac, that was a good performance.

Nice W for Adam Warren, like seeing SI starting to hit well.

Doug says:

because he picked a guy off 2nd base, he’s “getting the catching thing down”?

Accent Shallow says:

It’s a tough throw to make, and when the book is that he’s a lousy catcher, we’ll take what we can get.

“DFA the Artist Formally Known As Tomko”

Hey!!

DFA the Artist Formally Known As Tomko

well-played

My shit list:

1-Johan Iz My Brohan

2-Pablo Zevallos

*grrrrrr*

Doug says:

can brackman play CF as he looks like he has rick ankiel syndrome

Steve H says:

He can play C…..in hoops.

Zach says:

1B- Richie Sexson-type

Accent Shallow says:

Not thrilled with Nova’s K-rate, but if he can keep generating ground balls, he’ll be fine. Good thing he didn’t stick with the Pads.

Brackman is doing his best to get his walks equal to his innings pitched. It’ll be difficult since he had a nice start to the year, but with some hard work, poor command, and a little push from Nardi, I think he can get there.

Steve H says:

He also studies the back of Daniel Bard’s baseball card for inspiration.

Time to ‘find’ an injury on Brackman like they did on Betances last year.

Accent Shallow says:

Certainly couldn’t hurt. Get him some time off, some more time with the coaches/instructors . . .

Zach says:

What is there to even say about Brackman performances lately?
His career high in innings is 78 (last year of college), whats his limit this year?

Doug says:

should’ve been 30

Um…fake DL stint on line 1, fake DL stint on line 1.

(re: Brackman)

yanke1313 says:

cmon brack attack.

Love the three BBs from A-Jax.

Tank the Frank says:

And A-Jax just went deep in Game 2! Love it.

Patience and power: the two things we want to see from Jackson both on display tonight.

Doug says:

the trifecta would be no Ks

No K’s!
Boom! That just happened.

Mike Pop says:

Going to see staten island in a few weeks, which players should I look out for?

yanke1313 says:

the viz, medchill, higgy, and brooks.

Mike Pop says:

pollo says:

Woohoo AJax just went deep on a 3-0 count.

Dirty.

Jose Molina says:

Brackman supposedly going through “dead-arm” period post Tommy John. His velo has dropped to mid-high 80’s from mid-high 90’s in winter ball. Combine that with a lanky frame and lack of experience on the mound and perhaps a little patience is warranted. Like next year patience, not next start.

Doug says:

well, a dead arm would explain the hits, but what about the walks. just sit him down already

Mike Pop says:

I refuse to wait that long.

Ditto. He should be ready to take Wang’s start on Thursday.

Mike Pop says:

Or I demand he gives that signing bonus back and issues the Yankees an apology.

JobaWockeeZ says:

Or we put him in the bullpen to get his lost velocity back.

You’re fucking brilliant.

Cano wears the GIDP crown. says:

But then we have to send him back down immediately to learn how to attack hitters.
:(

(Comments wont nest below this level)
JobaWockeeZ says:

Not in the bullpen. Every young starter that goes to the bullpen will receive a 110 MPH fastball and they will have a 0.00 ERA.

Just speculating, could it also be (a) mechanical error(s)

Alright. Unless your name is actually Jose Molina, pick a different commenting name please.

Spaceman.Spiff says:

Would be hilarious if his name really was Jose Molina.

Ireallylikelittlefrenchpancakes says:

Apologies, did not realize name was left on that from previous post making cheap joke about Montero’s speed.

yanke1313 says:

Tank the Frank says:

Hell at least our minor leaguers sure do beat up on the Red Sox.

RT @tee_tuhm: And as the heckler shouts, “3-0, let it fly Austin!” A. Jax hits a home run. I LOVE IT. #Swankees up 4-0, bottom 2.

Hobs says:

I’m going to see Montero this Friday.

Teix is the Man says:

If Montero were in the MLB Draft this year, where would he have gone?

Whenever he wanted to. Teams wouldn’t pick Jesus; Jesus would pick them.

Teix is the Man says:

he’d pick more than one =)

AndrewYF says:

Melvin would have picked Jesus to be on his own personal team before any team would have a chance to. That team consists of Montero at catcher, Melvin on the mound, and Rivera in CF, waiting to take his turn in the 9th.

Probably not as high as you think. His value increased when he’s shown he can hit in pro ball with wood bats in pitchers’ leagues.

Mike Pop says:

How good can Melky Mesa be?

Teix is the Man says:
Mike Pop says:
Teix is the Man says:

david delucci (offensively)seems reasonable from what i’ve read

Yanks26 says:

Where would you come up with a David Delucci comp? Delucci is one of the most fundamentally sound players around, who gets everything that he possibly can out of his skill set. Melky is a gifted 5 tool player who has the toolset of a Daniel Dye. He would never make it in the majors, unless he can find a way to hit the offspeed stuff.

Mesa’s either going to be a star or a will never sniff a cup of coffee, but he’s not going to be a valuable fundamental type of player like Delucci.

Filler. He’s 22 in Charleston after spending last year in SI. Though if he repeats it in HiA and AA…who knows.

Mike Pop says:
Teix is the Man says:

nthong wrong with a career like delucci’s

TurnTwo says:

unless you are looking for productivity.

Teix is the Man says:

yeah but most people never even make it to the show

AJax with a solo HR in game 2, that’s 3 HR in 8 games IIRC.

A.D. says:

power coming along nicely

But the BABIP!!!!1!11!1!eleventy!

K.B.D. says:

I can’t tell whether you are acknowledging the fact that his BABIP is high and, as such, inflating his AVG, or if you’re making fun of people who reference that as if it means nothing.

Moose says:

Slow news night…so check this:

Word on the street is that Riccardi is willing to listen to offers for Halladay…sooooo

Joba, Ajax, Montero for Halladay????

Halladay is still relatively young at 32 (but not too young where he would command a Kings Ransom). I know the guys we’d have to give up may end up being stars, but RH would seal this teams fate for years to come.

I know its a long shot, but if we could get him, that would mean WS’s for the next 4-5 years. No one can beat Halladay, CC, AJ, and Hughes in October.

Probably fantasy, but nice to think about.

Teix is the Man says:

No way, Joba will be just as good in a few years, and one of AJAX and Montero have a great chance to pan out.

AHHAHAHA no.

Even if he IS willing to listen to offers for HAlladay he is a) trading high, and b) probably not looking to trade within the AL East.

Doug says:

not sure i want to see the man-child bat against us in the new stadium

Doug says:

sorry, rebecca, pretty new to this board. what does this mean?

Well, +1 is like saying, you get a point for that comment, as in, that comment is awesome and I agree with it.

I use 42 because

1) I like being different
2) Mariano Rivera
3) Douglas Adams.

TheLastClown says:

Don’t forget Lewis Carroll.

Well, +1 would normally be agreement, but I think she’s doing a play with the number, as Mo’s # = 42 and calling him a man-child.

Cano wears the GIDP crown. says:

Jackie Robinson was a positive guy.

ArodMVP217 Retire 51 says:

-26 for you incompetence!!! like how some forums have karma points that add up, except we do it just for fun

A.D. says:

Nah, way to much to give up, yes Halladay is dominant, but he still is going to get paid top dollar shortly, so he’s no deal contract wise.

If only one of those guys pans out to his full ability, he’ll be more valuable to the Yankees over the remainder of the career than Halladay will be for the remainder of his Yankee stint.

Zach says:

Halladay isnt young enough for a King’s Ransom? What is Joba/Ajax/Jesus then ?

Bryan G says:

Am i reading Z-Mac’s numbers correctly? Trenton has only scored a SINGLE RUN in EACH of his last 10 starts for him!?!?! Talk about lack of run support…those guys aught to at least by him a card or a beer or something becuase they are screwing him royal!

Bryan G says:

I know that at his level, development is more important than wins and losses, but if they could score even 2 runs a game for him, he would be 9 and 0 or 8 and 1. I always assume that even a pedestrian pitcher can get a 3ish ERA in Trenton and that unless you are in the two’s you aren’t really that good, but this kid is far and away out best pitching prospect and definatly has a brighter future than even AJAX, no?

Mike Ashmore says:

That would not be true. Go through the box scores and so on. While the team is hardly an offensive juggernaut, they’ve done better than that for him.

Miles Roche says:

Last I checked, CC had a grossly inflated ERA in October. . .

And what do you know about Halladay and Burnett in October?

Cano wears the GIDP crown. says:

What about CC isn’t grossly inflated?

A.D. says:

De Leon….raking.

A.D. says:

Either Z-Mac value is just at a redic high right now, or he’s becoming better than one would have thought.

Any chance he sees AAA soon

sac says:

a-jax homers and the gcl was a win not a loss

Mike bk says:

different question on Z-Mac. i see on here every time they talk about Jesus about how impressive what he is doing is because he is in a pitchers park so how much is that park aiding Z-Mac’s numbers?

Matt M. says:

isnt he a sinkerballer? so probably not too much

Tremont says:

Brackman may well have a physical problem but Why isnt anybody talking Steve Blass disease?

Angelo says:

I just finished reading everyones comments…whats wrong with me…

Angelo says:

Kelvin De Leon is really establishing himself as a legitimate prospect. Sosa as well….and Arodys Vizcaino. Anyone else think Medchill is to advanced for SI?

younguns says:

Tonight’s GCL score is reversed.

It should be 6-3, GCL Yankees beat the GCL Pirates.

Other than that & another good night at the plate by Deleon, DOTF is awesomeness personified.

Ivans says:

I don’t know which statline was stranger: AJAX with 0 K’s for a game or Melancon with 0 K’s in 3 inns.

Angelo says:

Ajax with 0 K’s for the past 2 games. thats amazing for him to go along with 3 bb and a homerun.

Mike bk says:

u mean 4 walks…in the DH he went 2 for 5 with a hr 4bb and 0k’s

Charlie says:

You must mean 6-3 win for GCL Yanks.. numbers don’t match up for them to have lost

Reggie C. says:

Brackman is going to fall out the top 10 yanks prospect list altogether if this shit continues. If he’s hurt i’m sure the organization would know by now , so this is all chalked up to plain ineffectiveness.

Whereas Betances has been hit by the injury bug, i wonder if Brackman is going through a dead arm period … he’s not structurally hurt, but the man’s numbers dictate he doesnt have any life or command on his stuff.

There’s no way Brackman’s NOT on the 40 man roster next year, right?

Rick in Boston says:

He’s going to be on the 40 until a) he gets traded or b) he runs out of options and is still struggling.

I’m going with a combo deadarm/mechanical issue right now. He’s never pitched this much in college/pros, plus post-TJ. I’m thinking he’ll head to Camp Nardi this off-season, work on getting everything cleaned up, and the team will bring him back next year in either Charleston or push him to Tampa and let him go.

Worst case? Bullpen if they figure he can’t go 150-180 innings a year.

NC Saint says:

Igawa has a rare appearance with more ground outs than fly outs and it doesn’t make it in to DotF. That ugly bastard just can’t catch a break.

Bo says:

Brackman. Another great draft by the Yanks.

He’s a huge bust for the fact that they put him on the 40 man roster. what a waste

AndrewYF says:

Not really a waste. Who have the Yankees lost in the Rule V draft that has turned into a good prospect?

Andy says:

Gotta send some love to AJax and Zach, so it tempers my rant on Brackman – for all you appologists bringing up Randy Johnson as a comp for Brackman, feel this:

Johnson, age 23 season: 3.73 ERA, 140 IN, 100 H, 163 K in DOUBLE A

Brackman, age 23 season: 6.01 ERA, 73 IN, 59 H, 72 K in LOW A

Oh, and Johnson made his major league debut the very next year, at age 24. Not so sure Big Brack is going to make it to the bigs next year…

zack says:

But but but, all Yankees prospects are going to make and can never be brought up in a trade conversation!!
