Charleston fails to pick up a hit
ByDJ Mitchell was named Florida State League Pitcher of the Week, while Cory Arbiso and Corban Joseph took home Pitcher and Hitter of the Week honors for the South Atlantic League.
Nice little piece about Austin Jackson, make sure you give it a read.

Eric Wordekemper: 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 5-5 GB/FB – 30 of 43 pitches were strikes (69.8%) … just up from AA because Jason Johnson is back on the DL

The huge tub of ice cream puts it over the top.
I can’t believe they came back!!!
I was there motherfucker, was horrible.

HV Gades againt SI.
i expect a full scouting report on Warren.
No can do partner.
He looked solid to me, but I have low expectations.

Not to mention, I had a few in me.

I should slap the shit out of Montero myself for going 0-4. Who the fuck he think he is going 0-4. Fuck you Montero, you fuckin pussy ass bitch. Fuck you.
/Bernazard’d
OH SHIT NOW I GOTTA TAKE MY SHIRT OFF
“Jesus Montero: 0 for 4, 1 K, 1 PB – bust“
Maybe we can still get Vernon Wells for him straight up. Get Riccardi on the phone before it’s too late!
Plz, I want Brad “Worth every cent” Penny. Wasn’t Montero compared to Smoak. Get on the phone Cash and do your job.
There’s no way we can get Penny for Montero. Jesus’s star has fallen too far. An offer like that would only insult Theo.
Do you really think Theo would trade Penny in the division for just a Smoak-type bat? They need Hughes too for a trade in the division.
Brad Penny was traded to the Giants for Bumgarner and Posey, the Giants insisted on adding Lincecum, but Boston said they were to deep already in Major League starting pitching.
That joke is getting lamer by the hour.
Seymour Lanbo strikes again!!!
The sarcastic trade proposals might have run their course. Just sayin’.
They still aren’t completely gone yet. And the way he added that Boston to take Lincecum because they have “enviable depth” made it funny.
see, for me it never gets old. now the reasons to continue doing it aren’t just that it is still funny but b/c it now aggrevates lanny.
You’re right, it is getting lame.
Let’s hear some of your jokes instead, Lanny. Go ahead, we’ll wait.
You mean Brad “Worth Every” Penny?!
BA-DUM SWISH!
Posey? That’s a shot at Tek
A-Jax and pena making a stake to come up tonight.
but after watching the game and how girardi morphed into torre only using his guys leave a-jax and pena down there.
The only guy he hasn’t used is Melancon. Let’s not turn this into a bigger issue than it is.
and the comparable is a young player who can develop in AAA vs riding the bench in NY, which is what i think he would do to A-Jax to play Melky.
Girardi has not been very stingy in how he has used young guys like Hughes, Coke, Gardner, and Cervelli.
hughes had been here before and we can argue that since he chose to give an ineffective wang a shot back in the rotation rather than keep hughes there.
Coke earned his role and some trust by how he pitched in Sept last year.
Gardner WON the job out of spring training
Frankie played because for most of the time it was either him or Kevin Cash.
Right- they played because there was a hole or they earned it- Melancon has not earned it, and lately there have been few openings for him. He should have been used tonight, but prior to that I really had no issues with Girardi’s bullpen usage.
There’s really no basis that Girardi doesn’t use young players.
i didnt say he didnt use young players. i said he only uses players he trusts and it is tough to earn trust when u dont get any work.
You mean like every other major league manager whose sole directive is to win baseball games?
YEAH! WHAT AN ASS!
Sigh. Melky Cabrera since June 19th (and not including today’s two-hit effort that came with a double): .287/.376/.437
Yeah, Joe Girardi would definitely be an idiot for playing that guy over a kid that’s never came to the plate in a Major League game.
Don’t you know! Melky sucks! His 280+ avg over the course of the season is smoke and mirrors.
i didnt say he should use him over melky. i said if he is not going to leave him in AAA.
Which is what they are doing…
I’m really failing to understand your point.
Anyone know what Adam Warren projects to be?
Jon Garland type, I think.
warren keeps pumping out the good performances.
nice to lare pitch well after the move up.
does have medchill actually have some speed, say 10-15 base speed?
Looks like Adam Warren has proven that hes a vet college pitcher
You guys amuse me. Montero zomg bust!!!11!!
Nice to see no walks from Whelan. He’s a guy who could definitely factor into bullpen plans soon.
Pope got hammered? Clearly it’s because Montero calls a lousy game.
“Pope gets hammered, Jesus slump”
i’d pay money to see that in the bronx soon.
Looks like mah boi Trenton is holdin it down.
YOU’RE MY BOY, SCOTTY BRO!!!
Damn Russo has been on a tear this past week. I’d love for him to be on this roster.
Mike, is Russo fast? PR late in games, maybe a stolen base here and there?
I think Russo is developing to be a super utility guy as well.
He’s been projected as that for the past few years. He’s only had like 4 games at SS though. I think he can be a better hitter than a super util guy but we won’t know until we try.
Pena + Russo would be an intriguing idea. between the two they basically cover every spot except C.
They should train him to be first base coach, and a bullpen catcher. I hear they’re also giving Pena reps at bat boy.
Oh shit, good thing they didn’t consider bringing a slumping Austin Jackson up!
Anybody care to explain what Mark Melancon did to get treated like this? Banged Joe G.’s wife, perhaps???
Freaking unbelievable!!!
17. FREAKING. GAMES!!!
Not pitch well when he came up, and then sit around in tight games.
Then guess what — send the guy back down to SWB, so that he can at least get into some games!
This guy is rotting in the bullpen, for crying out loud!
Agreed. The good thing is his rotting has been a product of the starting pitching giving some innings.
Technically, it’s 13 freaking games, not 17. That 17 day span includes the All-Star Break.
You can’t have him pitch in games on scheduled off days.
Alright. 17 Days. Point still stands, though. . .
Well, It makes sense as we need to win games and he hasn’t exactly been good in the short time he’s been here (although that is WAAAY to small of a sample size). I guess he could have used him today but D-rob was already in the game and had used just 4 pitches to get Pena in the 8th.
Yeah, but it irked me when Girardi didn’t bring in Melancon instead of Albie to start the 8th, when the Yankees had a 6-run lead, which should have been enough run-support to allow Melancon to do his thing. And if he faltered, you could have then brought in Albaladejo or D-Rob.
Old Man Gammons on BBTN: “He [Beckett] and Lester are probably the best 1-2 combo in all of baseball, along with Sabathia and Burnett.”
Do you think any of the producers have to nudge the guys and remind them that there’s 28 other teams besides the Yankees and the Sox?
Verlander-Jackson, Felix-Bedard, Lincecum-Cain, Jurjjens-Vazquez, and Carpenter-Wainwright all say hello.
It’s going to be scary when we have to talk about Billingsley/Kershaw that way. They’re going to be good for awhile.
Yeah, I almost included them, but Billingsley isn’t quite on their level of dominance yet.
I’d still be scared with Carpenter. 21 innings the last 2 seasons combined doesn’t usually bode well. I understand what you’re saying though, because if he’s pitching, he’s nasty.
Yeah, but he wasn’t qualifying it with “Best 1-2 punch over the next X years”, just best 1-2 at the moment.
If we’re looking at long-term potential, it’s one of the NL West duos, hands down.
So who is the best 1-2 at the moment?
The best and best only.
Dylan/Dylan/Dylan/Dylan/Dylan
because i spit hot fire
Just when I thought you couldn’t possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this and totally redeem yourself!
So who is the best 1-2 at the moment?
I’d take Verlander and Jackson by a smidge over all the other duos. If the Tigers can add a third starter by the deadline, and if Carlos Guillen actually hits when he returns, Detroit could actually be a little dangerous.
Bedard is hurt, but your point is well taken. I seriously can not recall the last time Peter Gammons said anything remotely informational. He is paid to pimp the Sox and give his best guesses.
It’s amazing how nobody talks about Adam Wainwright.
Heh, I wonder if Carlos Beltran has decided to swing at that curveball yet.
If the Cardinals were the Yankees, they would be hanging the Jocketty/Mozeliak braintrusts in effigy for pulling the lights-out Wainwright out of the closer role to put him in the rotation.
But, whatddya know, Wainwright is now an elite starter who creates wins for his team and 36 year old Ryan Franklin and his paper-mache beard is an All-Star closer.
Please don’t talk about that beard, it really does creep me out.
Well, at least Gammons recognized our 1-2. That’s a start as he could have just said that any Boston pitcher creates the best 1-2 in the game. Let’s not get too greedy here.
Seriosuly though, I understand and I guess it would be annoying for other fans.
He is probably pissed that someone put that up on the teleprompter without him realizing it.

For all those unnecessarily whining about the use of the 13th man on the pitching staff, Mark Melancon, here, read this:
– Mark Feinsand, NY Daily News beat writer: http://twitter.com/BloggingBom.....2883157440
Ah, thanks for sharing. *goes off to smack self*
yanks just traded melky and wang for zitto and rowan
Good thing we didn’t trade them for Zito and Rowand. That would be bad.
Tell me more about these “zitto” and “rowan” kids, though, I’m intrigued.
Nah, I’ve hard of him before. The kid’s name is Zitto Androwan. He’s supposed to have more ridiculous upside than Melvin Croussett.
He’s supposed to have more ridiculous upside than Melvin Croussett.
(stands back so as not to get struck by lightning)
JOKE IS SO LAME.
OMG U GUYS REALLY PISS ME OFF.
It really pisses you off. Well, I guess that makes sense given the all capital letters you utilized. At first, I thought your caps lock button might have gotten stuck or something. Upon further reflection, you’re actually using it to indicate loud frustration.
Bravo.
Na broskie, was pulling a Lanny.
Maybe I should of included how I was upset that Cashman did (insert whatever ridiculous statement here) and then not provide any info on what I think he could/should of done.
Or I could of just used a simple – /Lanny’d
Well played, sir. Well played.
Not only are you not suppose to post false news, you also managed to spell 2 of those 4 names wrong.
…
Wow! Great news! I found the link.
“Eric Wordekemper: 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 5-5 GB/FB – 30 of 43 pitches were strikes (69.8%) … just up from AA because Jason Johnson is back on the DL”
Nope. We’re showcasing him for the Wordekemper for Halladay and Wells trade.
Zack Kroenke… seem like a good mid-level prospect to use for a Justin Duchsherer/Ian Snell acquisition?
I’d be fine with parting ways with him. BABIP is crazy low and I think Mike Dunn is a better prospect in every way.
True, Dunn > Kroenke. I’ll part with either one for Duke or Snell, though.
maybe, i’m not sure if that’d be enough. Of the two, I prefer Duscherer. If he can make it back successfully from his injury, he’s a much more of a sure thing than snell
Kanekoa Texeira seems like he dominates every time out.
Johnny Damon was asked whether Burnett looks like the pitcher the Yankees faced last season when he was with Toronto.
“Absolutely,” he said. “He’s one of those guys you dream about at night, you know? Not in a good way, in a bad way.”
Pause.
i hope this is a joke. if not, oh well, you gotta love johnny D. the dude has some hilarious quotes
looks like someone should teach him about the word nightmare
Or the phrase “Nocturnal emmissions”.
How does Kroenke profile on the ML level? Seems like he’s dominating in AAA to me…
The real shame of the Melancon thing is that they brought up Albie in the first place. Please, we have 96 releivers on the roster already, with guys not getting work. If AJax or Pena or even useless Shelley Duncan was up, you wouldn’t have this issue…
