Bruney stinks. Mop up guy who can’t mop

  • Little Bill

Bruney is awful. Not sure why they needed to bring in Rivera. Anybody else could have came in.

      The save!

  • VO

I think we have a new Veras. It can’t be rust anymore. Either he’s doing something terribly wrong or he has simply lost it.

Bruney needs to bring the stash back
    stash = effectiveness.

    Oy, Bruney.

    At least Mo is rested.

There still is no reason for him to be in though.

Bruney freaking sucks! Get this guy off the team and into the minors. He can’t even handle a 6-0 lead? You gotta be kidding me. Can’t wait to hear the sh!t he talks tonight. “I made some good pitches”. No you didn’t d!ck!

I just feel like we’re living off the hope that he gets back to “normal Bruney” again. But we saw a limited amount of that. Most of the time its been the DL or getting pounded in the ass.

    • V

Yeah, let’s release him. Wow, you’re absolutely fucking brilliant.

Please, also, change your name. You’re not Austin Jackson.

    Trade Rumor Update via MLBTR

Another scout questions the Red Sox’ ability to land Halladay without a glut of high-level prospects at AA and AAA, which would make it tough to strike a deal without including a third team. Additionally, the Angels have reportedly traded these names with the Blue Jays: Erick Aybar, Kevin Jepsen, Brandon Wood, Jeff Mathis, Bobby Wilson, Sean Rodriguez, Jered Weaver and others.

    • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

They really need a bat more than a pitcher, and it appears V-Mart is the next to go.

      http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/07/will-victor-martinez-be-next-to-go.html

Martinez is such a good fit for them. He can catch and play some 1B. That’s just perfect for what they need.

      • Accent Shallow

If they get V-Mart, does that mean I have to change from rooting for Buchholz to fail to rooting for him to succeed?

        • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

I’m not sure V-mart requires Bucholtz, but a deal should deplete the Sox farm to where they’re not serious contenders for Doc. I’ve already read stuff tonight where they’re not really a match in any case.

Did Joba’s dad give him a beating over the All-star break? It’s amazing, his turn around. He seems like the pitcher we saw last year. Just working fast, pounding the strike zone. He wasn’t even hitting the upper 90’s. I think he maxed at 95, sat at 92-3. It’s amazing what he can do with some confidence and some fire.

  • Observer283

Do you think Harper, et al will write a column about Joba now? Or will they just wait until his next bad start to argue he we know he can’t be a great starter and the Yanks should move him back to the pen?

      Anderson seems a decent fit

I made an assumption that how he’s pitched in the pen would carry over to starting – better command, greater confidence, etc.

Yeah it’s funny how the Yankees are looking for starting pitching to replace Wang and later Chamberlain. All the Yankees best options for starting pitching are sitting in the bullpen.

What are they going to do if we make the playoffs? Joba will definitely hit his innings limit before the playoffs, unless he is moved to the bullpen.

So do you go CC AJ Andy and ????? for the fourth starter? Or do they screw the innings limit, lets risk the arm of a promising young starter to try and win this year (See 2003 Cubs– Mark Prior and Kerry Wood)?

    Rock—Yankees—Hard Place.

    • Zach

its not just injury to his arm, its ineffectiveness. see 2009 cole hamels after 70+ IP increase from 07 to 08

      • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

I don’t think Hamels is a good case. He’s not exactly hurt and aside from just giving up a few too many hits, he hasn’t been all that ineffective. He’s kinda pulling a Javier Vasquez thus far in that he’s well under-performing his peripherals (and he’s still coming down from an awful, awful start). He’s rocking a K/9 of 8, a BB/9 of 1.6, and a 5.00 K/BB so, Hamels will most likely just get better from this point on.

        • Zach

well he did have an elbow issue in ST, which lead to his horrible start, was better in may, was great in june, and july is a mix bag- high era, high HR rate, dropping SO/9, yet high SO/BB and low whip

  • Little Bill

ANDY PETTITTE IS A STARTING PITCHER!!! GET ME JOBA’S LAST 5 STARTS!! GET ME PORCELLO’S LAST 5 STARTS AND WE’LL COMPARE EM!!!! They just can’t take Joba out of the starting rotation in September and put him in the bullpen. I don’t know how Brian Cashman could look CC Sabathia in the eye and tell him he’s taking their 3rd best starter and putting him in the bullpen.

Are Pettitte and Mitre going to be starting games 3 and 4 in a playoff series while Chamberlain and Hughes are pitching the 7th and 8th innings? Cashman is better than that.

    • Drew

I don’t know what you’re aiming at here.

      • Zach

        he’s mocking francesa and cashman
but hes foolishly thinking Joba is going to throw 180-220 IP this year

        • Drew

Heh, I got that from the first paragraph. The second one threw me through a loop.

        • Little Bill

Then they need to get another good starter or move Hughes to the rotation. Otherwise it’ll be just like every other year they get outpitched and go out in the 1st round.

          • Drew

C’mon man, our #3 will match up with their #3. Whether it’s Phil, Ace, Mitre(if he pitches well) or TBA, we will be okay.

            • Zach

              exactly.
detriot is shutting porcello down (woah its not just the yankees?!?!!?!?) so Andy would face Galarraga
boston – either Penny, Smoltz, Wake or Buchholz as their #3
angels – saunders (5+ era) or santana (7+ era)
twins – cant even do their rotation because liriano is pitching like crap but i guess hes their game 1 starter

              • Little Bill

Dice-K is coming back so he would be Boston’s #3. Wake would obviously be their #4. They’re not going to let Penny, Bucholz and especially Smoltz start in the postseason unless they have to.

          • Zach

yes we need another pitcher, but we dont want to give up Joba, Hughes, AJax or Montero. So who are you expecting to get?

            • Zach

my point, are you going to get a SP better than Andy without giving up any of those top 4?

      • Dela G

        he is mimicking mike francessa

    • Observer283

Of course the Yanks want Joba to start. It just that he will likely have flown by his innnings limit by that point if the status quo remains. Then the Yankees have the choice of pitching him and over extending his arm, or srtaying true to his innings limit and shutting him down during the playoffs.

To us, it may seem like a no brainer to pitch him in the playoffs if he continues pitching this well. As I noted above, it likely seemed like a no brainer to keep pitching Prior and Wood in 2003. We all saw their careers take a turn for a worse after they were over-extended.

I want the Yanks to win in 2009, but I don’t want Joba to become a Mark Prior-esque cautionary tale either.

They are going to have to get another starting pitcher just for depth reasons and the fact that Joba will be hitting that limit soon.

      Duchscherer, please.

People, we shouldn’t be sad Jober is nearing his innings limit. We should be happy as hell. If his remaining starts and innings thereafter go well (injury free), Joba would be ready for next season at 200+ innings. Assuming all goes well, Joba 2009=success.

I don’t think he’s gonna jump from 150-200 between ’09-’10. I think he’ll do about 180 next year then do 200+ from there on out.

Well I figure 160 this year. Next stop 200. I’d think 180 next year is lowballing him.
