WTF, Texas pulled Hunter after 85 pitches?

    • Dela G

what a complete moron washington is

not only that, he puts in their version of Brett Tomko in Jason Jennings

      • Jersey

        LOL, I know. I’m appalled

      • JGS

who promptly walks the leadoff man

        headdesk

        • Dela G

          unbelievable

i know they have better arms ready to go than jennings

they have every day eddy, o’day, a few mop up guys, and CJ wilson

          • JGS

hey, he got out of it.

hopefully there will be more reliable arms pitching the 8th and 9th

I can has three run homer from Jeets?

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

No, you cannot has three run homer from Jeets

Hey, guys, what did I miss?

    Mitre was solid? Nice.
Damon’s a bad LF? Eh, we figured as much.
Cody Ransom actually has some worth after all? Who knew?

    • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

You missed the Yankees de-bunking almost everything and the sarcastic comments that followed. Best part of the night for sure.

      • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

In the broadcast? Or here on RAB? I didn’t read the first two gamethreads.

        • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

          Here on RAB. Myths debunked:

          –Yankees are slow
–Yankees can only score via HR
          –A-Rod is unclutch
–Nick Swisher is a bad situational hitter

          • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Gotcha. Sounds like all that’s left to debunk is that Raul Mondesi was a good centerfielder. That, and the one about Melvin Croussett being a mortal being.

            • http://farm1.static.flickr.com/153/413671602_daded72a81_m.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

              Cannon arm… All-out effort… Closing speed… Belly-flops…

              • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Yup. Kirby Puckett was a damn fine centerfielder.

But we were talking about Raul Mondesi.

                • http://farm1.static.flickr.com/153/413671602_daded72a81_m.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

          • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

-it is hard to fathom that Damon has cost them 2 wins worth of runs. He did two runs tonight alone.

        • pat

Every MSM Yankee complaint ever. We hit sac flies, arod got his uniform dirty, he had a clutch hit, we played good defense cody ransom BB’d, it was opposite day.

  • pat

No Ken, he was disgusted it was shin high and called a strike.

  • Salty Buggah

Jeter not all that good against RHP…He UNCLUTCH!!!!

Ok damon, make up for your mistakes..

  • Rich D.

This is a long long game already!!!

  • Dela G

are these yankees trying to murder my prediction of 6 runs scored?

    • Accent Shallow

They’re doing their best to conform to it.

      • Dela G

thats what i like to see

    • Riddering

      They’re going to deliver…but at a price!

  • Rich D.

Classic Yanks: leave runners in scoring position with less than 2 outs!

  • Chris

Too bad Damon isn’t playing left for the Orioles. He could have just had a 2 run double.

  • Tom Zig

Can Brian Bruney come out to play today?

  • Salty Buggah

I can bet you that if A-rod, Swish, or Cano were up, those irrational fans would be yelling at them for not getting the run in from 3rd with less than 2 out. I mean all you had to was put the ball in play (except popouts) and Jeter didn’t. I’m not complaining as long as we win but I’m just saying…

    • LiveFromNewYork

Jeter definitely gets away with just about everything.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

I used to have a job training staff supervisors. One of my pieces of advice: Be liked.

If people like you, they tend to ignore your mistakes and laud your successes. If you’re not liked, they harp on your mistakes and minimize your successes.

  • trevor

where is bruney he hasn’t pitched in ages?

    • steve (different one)

      he’s sitting in the bullpen.

the yankees have won their last 4 games by 5 runs, which game would you have put him in?

      i’d go with “none”.

  • LiveFromNewYork

I think I was in bed by this time last night.

    • Dela G

      yep

game ended at 854ish pm central last night

      • pat

You ever give a time in CST again we’re gonna throw fists.. you got that? EST OR HIT THE BRICKS BUDDY

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

(pssst… it’s currently EDT, not EST.)

          • pat

really? when did that change? wtf?

            • pat

HA, no shit I had no idea it changed between EST and EDT. Whatever I’m still throwin fisticuffs if people start tossing around crazy timezones.

Whenever Ace comes to the mound, I feel tingly all over.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

You should get that checked out.

  • Salty Buggah

    Get Roberts out Ace.

  • KG Sturnz0r

operation get little ped-using man out

  • Drew

    ROberts is my favorite O.

  • pat

Bruney and Melancon have no hope of achieving and maintaining consistency if they never ever pitch.

    • pat

and yes, i realize how dirty that sounds.

    • Salty Buggah

Well, I would definitely be angry if they came in and blew the game so it’s understandable to me.

    • steve (different one)

but again, which game should they have pitched in?

      • pat

        this is true.

  • Rich D.

Too early to say Mirte should start again?

    • Jersey

First, learn to spell his name. Not Mirte, not Marte, Mitre, LOL

    • Steve in PDX

No question he starts again. He would have had to turn in a Wangian performance to not start again. I think he was slightly better than that.

    • JGS

no–I think Girardi even said that this wasn’t an audition and Mitre is the 5th starter until further notice

    • Salty Buggah

nope, He was solid tonight and would have better with adequate defense in LF and if RObbie didn’t make that mistake. And JoeG said it’s not on a start-to-start basis, he is our 5th man until further notice.

  • Reggie C.

    IMPRESSIVE !!

    • kunaldo

he makes it look so easy!

  • Accent Shallow

Roberts is allowed to make outs against the Yankees?

  • Rich D.

    Cano is an underrated fielder!!!

  • bicycle boy

cano better win a gold glove this year

  • pat

It’s like robbie’s arm becomes disjointed from his body and he slings that shit to first regardless of where his torso is facing.

  • Dela G

    RED SOX Strand runners!!

    Mid 7th

    Red Sox 1 Tejas 2

Pitching: Bos – J Beckett; Tex- J Jennings

  • Jersey

And in Texas, Jennings gets out of it. Still 2-1 Rangers.

I shouldn’t be rooting for the Rangers, as they’re our closest competition for the wild card, but I don’t care.

    • Dela G

the rays are much more lethal than the rangers

  • Rich D.

    God Bless the USA!

  • KG Sturnz0r – Camilo Gerardo

homer, walk, borderline web gem, good day overall

  • b/c

    Aceves is teh awesomeness!

I love having Aceves, Hughes, and Rivera at the end of games

  • Rich D.

Aceves current line: 1.1 IP, 0 Hits, 0 Runs, 0 ER, 12 PC. Joe should send him out for the 8th and save Hughes for tomorrow.

  • KG Sturnz0r – Camilo Gerardo

    UH, i need to stretch

  • JGS

Finally, a baserunner off Beckett (first one since the first inning)–leadoff double for Andruw. Hopefully the Rangers can tack on some insurance

    • JGS

ooh, now its 1st and 3rd no one out

  • ledavidisrael

    What is Pasta diving???

Is this some sort of joke related to nicks heritage??

    • Jersey

You never went pasta diving when you played ball as a kid?

      • ShuutoHeat

omg, I loved the pasta diving event when I used to goto baseball camp as a kid!

      • ledavidisrael

Nah I was a fat kid. I had to lay off the carbs.

        • Jersey

haha. Just having some fun. Say it out loud, “Pasta diving Jeter”

          • ledavidisrael

ahahah we should have a RAB pasta diving contest. Count me in!

            • ShuutoHeat

I want in, thats if they don’t use corkscrew/rotini pasta…

    • pat

Hahah… past-a-diving. It’s an homage to the classic kay/setling line of pastadiving jeter

There are two things I can’t stand. People intolerant of other people’s cultures… and the Dutch.

  • Jersey

Runners on the corners and nobody out for Beckett….

  • Dorian

Texas with runners on the corners in the bottom of the 7th with no one out. Texas 2 Boston 1

  • Dorian

Who else gets angry when they look at Beckett’s gameday photo?

    • ShuutoHeat

I get pissed just by looking at his smug face….

    • Jersey

      Of course. He’s a C U Next Tuesday

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

It seriously pisses me off. He comes off to me as a huge asshole in that picture. Must be the Boston hat though. He looks decent without it. In fact, Pedroia, Bay, and Youk look like D-bags in their photos.

  • Salty Buggah

A-rod seemed too happy to pass the baton there…he could have gotten a inside the park HR!

  • Salty Buggah

    no DP Jorge!

    3-2 RANGERS!!!

    • Jersey

      You mean 3-1?

      • Dela G

yes 3-1 i wish i could correct my posts

  • cola825

I live in MA. If things continue the way theyre going tonight talk radio will be glorious tomorrow. As I type 3-1 Rangers. Niiiice.

  • Dorian

    Beautiful sight “In play (runs)”

    • JGS

      agreed

  • JGS

uch…hate the strike em out throw em out. in other news, 3-1 Texas

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

Jamal brought up a good question on Twitter:

If Ace still has a low pitch count after 8, might he close it out? Give both Mo and Hughes an extra day off?

I wouldn’t mind. I also wouldn’t mind if Joe G used Hughes and Mo, so…

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

      Or not.

    • Accent Shallow

Coke’s in now, so the point is moot, but: there’s no way Mariano is not pitching in a save situation unless he’s unavailable. That’s just the way it is.

    • JGS

does Giambi make that play? methinks not

      • JGS

why do I keep putting comments in the wrong place?

  • Rich D.

strike him out, throw him out DP! Ran our selves right out of an inning (literally)

  • Salty Buggah

Well, I guess he can throw someone out. A-rod still isn’t running as fast and fluid as before but that’s OK, next year, hopefully he’s healthy.

  • Andy Stankiewicz

I just notices two things watching the Tex. Bos. game. Andrew Jones is slow as shit and Jason Bay has no arm. It is not Damonesqe but still weak none the less.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Eh, at least Nate McLouth is still a good centerfielder.

      What’s that, you say?

    • ShuutoHeat

for some reason when I see Jason Bay the word “decrepit” comes to mind…..

and for some weird reason, I think he lives in a dank cave lit by torches…

      • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

True story: His name is “Jay Ray Bay”.

No, seriously. Go look it up.

        • ShuutoHeat

now I picture him rolled up in fetal position in the corner of his dank cave….quietly mumbling “jay ray bay” over and over again to himself…

  • pat

Russ Salzberg.. the Gilbert Gottfried of sports journalism.

    • Rich D.

HAHA: Russ is an embarrassment. He tries to talk Bronx-like.

    • A.D.

      That nails it.

  • Rich D.

Phil Coke? I guess I understand it with 3 lefties in a row but not loving the move.

  • Salty Buggah

no ACE? Though I’m not complaining about Coke. Cmon Cokie get em out!

    • Salty Buggah

      no HRs Coke…

  • Jersey

Would have liked to have seen Ace stay in.

  • Dorian

    Thank You Michael Kay

  • Rich D.

Hughes now throwing in the ‘pen… this is what I want to avoid.

  • Sam P.

Down here in DC, we get MASN and the Orioles feed … Gary Thorne (of ESPN NHL fame) is commenting how the Yanks will look at adding a lefty for the bullpen since the only one they have is Coke.

Research of the roster and DL is not something that MASN wants to pay for, obviously.

  • Cokie

Just when I thought its time to change my name, REDEMPTION.
    Nice K.

  • Chip

Is it just me or is Coke actually throwing harder as the season goes on?

    • pat

Agreed, I was gonna go to fangraphs and check.

    • Accent Shallow

I’ll agree with you. I thought he was 90-91 in April, and now he’s 93-94.

    • Dela G

he’s been throwing 94 all year

      • Dela G

        oh never mind, you’re right

    • Salty Buggah

I agree also. He was 90-91 in the beginning of the year. Now, he’s 93-94. Last year when he came up late in the year, he was 95-96.

  • Dorian

Why do I find myself secretly hoping that Coke lets one on just to see the Franchise?

  • Jake

    Marky Mark!!

  • Drew

That’s how you do that shit.

  • pat

    Coke gets ridiculously lucky again..

  • Rich D.

YES YES YES YES! TEX BABY! Giambi would not have made that one!

  • Sam P.

Damn, someone get Tex a gold glove. Nice play.

  • Jersey

Give that man a Gold Glove

  • Andy Stankiewicz

Tex is very good at baseball. Not good, very good.

  • Riddering

    EFFING MONEY.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

I would have called it “The Coke Line”, but that’s me.

  • YankeeScribe

Is there a reason why Bruney, Melancon, or Robertson aren’t getting innings?

    • A.D.

Starting pitching going deep into games & close games. Coke, Hughes, and Aceves are clearly the A relievers right now, and for good reason.

      • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Still, though, you have to work them in sometime. You just have to.

It’s analogous to Cody Ransom starting tonight. Sure, you wanna trot the A lineup out there every night, but you’ll run your starters into the ground and turn your bench into piles of rust.

        • A.D.

Yeah you do, and I’m sure they will, or else if this maintains some reliever will be sent down. Coming out of the break they’ve had bit of a rarity of a bunch of close games and everyone being rested up out of the break.

    • Rich D.

Bruney has been terrible and its too risky to bring him in in close games (which the Yanks have only played so far).

I think Robertson deserves more trust but he was rocky his last time out in LA.
Melancon is still young and will get his time but he is not gonna be first in line from the BP.

    • Tank the Frank

I think the games have just been too close of late. 2-1 every day. I personally would like to see Bruney get his work in. Having him back to form would be a UUUUGE boost.

Being showcased would imply that Melky’s playing well. Via Pete Abe (and via me being too lazy to look these numbers up for once):

        Melky Cabrera’s first 128 at-bats: .328/.374/.492

        Melky Cabrera’s last 128 at-bats: .234/.310/.367

    • http://farm1.static.flickr.com/153/413671602_daded72a81_m.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

Dude… I’m right there with you… But I’d be careful about trying to make the Yanks’ 0-8 record against the Sox into a positive. I mean… Yeah… The Yanks have a better record than the Sox if you disregard the head-to-head series… But they’re still 0-8 against the Sox head-to-head.

      • http://farm1.static.flickr.com/153/413671602_daded72a81_m.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

That should have read: better record overall… and much better record if you disregard the head-to-head series…

        You know what I meant.

      • JobaWockeeZ

Well yeah it’s not really good that they are 0-8 but it’s not like Boston is completely dominating us. Like when Mo blew a save or when the Yanks were 6-0 with AJ on the mound, etc. And we don’t know the whole story yet since the Sox only played 2 games at YS3.
Anyways it feels good being in first despite 0-8. But the Yanks surely won’t stay winless against Boston and if they can start taking more series from them, they can hopefully easily win the AL East.

        • http://farm1.static.flickr.com/153/413671602_daded72a81_m.jpg The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

“Well yeah it’s not really good that they are 0-8 but it’s not like Boston is completely dominating us. Like when Mo blew a save or when the Yanks were 6-0 with AJ on the mound, etc…”

Dude, I hear you… But 0-8 is 0-8. All the other stuff is just excuses, it’s just noise. The Yanks will play them again and will win their share of the remaining games, and they look great right now. But 0-8 is 0-8.

But yeah, it’s nice to be in first, despite the head-to-head record. Totally.

Not too many offenses better than Baltimore.

LAA, BOS, TEX, TB, maybe CLE?

      • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

They’re 9th in the AL in runs, 6th in BA, 9th in OBP, 10th in SLG, and 10th in OPS.

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Yup. After Luke Scott and Eric Davis II, that offense is no great shakes. Markakis and Roberts are solid but pretty pedestrian this year, and with Huff and Mora slumping badly, four of their 9 lineup spots (C/SS/1B/3B) are pretty punchless.

        • Tank the Frank

3rd in HR no? Anyway, I just remember the April O’s where Roberts/Markakis/Jones were hitting everything we threw. But you’re right they’ve come back down to earth.
