  1. Jersey says:

WTF, Texas pulled Hunter after 85 pitches?

  2. I can has three run homer from Jeets?

  3. Hey, guys, what did I miss?

    Mitre was solid? Nice.
Damon’s a bad LF? Eh, we figured as much.
Cody Ransom actually has some worth after all? Who knew?

  4. pat says:

No Ken, he was disgusted it was shin high and called a strike.

  5. Salty Buggah says:

Jeter not all that good against RHP…He UNCLUTCH!!!!

Ok damon, make up for your mistakes..

  6. Rich D. says:

This is a long long game already!!!

  7. Dela G says:

are these yankees trying to murder my prediction of 6 runs scored?

  8. Rich D. says:

Classic Yanks: leave runners in scoring position with less than 2 outs!

  9. Chris says:

Too bad Damon isn’t playing left for the Orioles. He could have just had a 2 run double.

  10. Tom Zig says:

Can Brian Bruney come out to play today?

  11. Salty Buggah says:

I can bet you that if A-rod, Swish, or Cano were up, those irrational fans would be yelling at them for not getting the run in from 3rd with less than 2 out. I mean all you had to was put the ball in play (except popouts) and Jeter didn’t. I’m not complaining as long as we win but I’m just saying…

    • LiveFromNewYork says:

Jeter definitely gets away with just about everything.

    • I can bet you that if A-rod, Swish, or Cano were up, those irrational fans would be yelling at them for not getting the run in from 3rd with less than 2 out. I mean all you had to was put the ball in play (except popouts) and Jeter didn’t.

I used to have a job training staff supervisors. One of my pieces of advice: Be liked.

If people like you, they tend to ignore your mistakes and laud your successes. If you’re not liked, they harp on your mistakes and minimize your successes.

  12. trevor says:

where is bruney he hasn’t pitched in ages?

    • steve (different one) says:

      he’s sitting in the bullpen.

the yankees have won their last 4 games by 5 runs, which game would you have put him in?

      i’d go with “none”.

  13. LiveFromNewYork says:

I think I was in bed by this time last night.

  14. Riddering says:

Whenever Ace comes to the mound, I feel tingly all over.

  15. Salty Buggah says:

    Get Roberts out Ace.

  16. KG Sturnz0r says:

operation get little ped-using man out

  17. Drew says:

    ROberts is my favorite O.

  18. pat says:

Bruney and Melancon have no hope of achieving and maintaining consistency if they never ever pitch.

  19. Rich D. says:

Too early to say Mirte should start again?

    • Jersey says:

First, learn to spell his name. Not Mirte, not Marte, Mitre, LOL

    • Steve in PDX says:

No question he starts again. He would have had to turn in a Wangian performance to not start again. I think he was slightly better than that.

    • JGS says:

no–I think Girardi even said that this wasn’t an audition and Mitre is the 5th starter until further notice

    • Salty Buggah says:

nope, He was solid tonight and would have better with adequate defense in LF and if RObbie didn’t make that mistake. And JoeG said it’s not on a start-to-start basis, he is our 5th man until further notice.

  20. Reggie C. says:

  21. Accent Shallow says:

Roberts is allowed to make outs against the Yankees?

  22. Rich D. says:

    Cano is an underrated fielder!!!

  23. bicycle boy says:

cano better win a gold glove this year

  24. pat says:

It’s like robbie’s arm becomes disjointed from his body and he slings that shit to first regardless of where his torso is facing.

  25. Dela G says:

    RED SOX Strand runners!!

    Mid 7th

    Red Sox 1 Tejas 2

Pitching: Bos – J Beckett; Tex- J Jennings

  26. Jersey says:

And in Texas, Jennings gets out of it. Still 2-1 Rangers.

I shouldn’t be rooting for the Rangers, as they’re our closest competition for the wild card, but I don’t care.

  27. Rich D. says:

    God Bless the USA!

  28. KG Sturnz0r - Camilo Gerardo says:

homer, walk, borderline web gem, good day overall

  29. b/c says:

    Aceves is teh awesomeness!

I love having Aceves, Hughes, and Rivera at the end of games

  30. Rich D. says:

Aceves current line: 1.1 IP, 0 Hits, 0 Runs, 0 ER, 12 PC. Joe should send him out for the 8th and save Hughes for tomorrow.

  31. KG Sturnz0r - Camilo Gerardo says:

    UH, i need to stretch

  32. JGS says:

Finally, a baserunner off Beckett (first one since the first inning)–leadoff double for Andruw. Hopefully the Rangers can tack on some insurance

  33. ledavidisrael says:

    What is Pasta diving???

Is this some sort of joke related to nicks heritage??

  34. Jersey says:

Runners on the corners and nobody out for Beckett….

  35. Dorian says:

Texas with runners on the corners in the bottom of the 7th with no one out. Texas 2 Boston 1

  36. Dorian says:

Who else gets angry when they look at Beckett’s gameday photo?

  37. Salty Buggah says:

A-rod seemed too happy to pass the baton there…he could have gotten a inside the park HR!

  38. Salty Buggah says:

    no DP Jorge!

  39. Tom Zig says:

“The Yankees need someone to bat 5th to make people pay for walking Rodriguez”

    Manny or Dunn ftw

  40. Dela G says:

    3-2 RANGERS!!!

  41. cola825 says:

I live in MA. If things continue the way theyre going tonight talk radio will be glorious tomorrow. As I type 3-1 Rangers. Niiiice.

  42. Dorian says:

    Beautiful sight “In play (runs)”

  43. JGS says:

uch…hate the strike em out throw em out. in other news, 3-1 Texas

  44. Jamal brought up a good question on Twitter:

If Ace still has a low pitch count after 8, might he close it out? Give both Mo and Hughes an extra day off?

I wouldn’t mind. I also wouldn’t mind if Joe G used Hughes and Mo, so…

  45. Rich D. says:

strike him out, throw him out DP! Ran our selves right out of an inning (literally)

  46. Salty Buggah says:

Well, I guess he can throw someone out. A-rod still isn’t running as fast and fluid as before but that’s OK, next year, hopefully he’s healthy.

  47. Andy Stankiewicz says:

I just notices two things watching the Tex. Bos. game. Andrew Jones is slow as shit and Jason Bay has no arm. It is not Damonesqe but still weak none the less.

  48. pat says:

Russ Salzberg.. the Gilbert Gottfried of sports journalism.

  49. Rich D. says:

Phil Coke? I guess I understand it with 3 lefties in a row but not loving the move.

  50. Salty Buggah says:

no ACE? Though I’m not complaining about Coke. Cmon Cokie get em out!

  51. Jersey says:

Would have liked to have seen Ace stay in.

  52. Dorian says:

    Thank You Michael Kay

  53. Rich D. says:

Hughes now throwing in the ‘pen… this is what I want to avoid.

  54. Sam P. says:

Down here in DC, we get MASN and the Orioles feed … Gary Thorne (of ESPN NHL fame) is commenting how the Yanks will look at adding a lefty for the bullpen since the only one they have is Coke.

Research of the roster and DL is not something that MASN wants to pay for, obviously.

  55. Cokie says:

Just when I thought its time to change my name, REDEMPTION.
    Nice K.

  56. Chip says:

Is it just me or is Coke actually throwing harder as the season goes on?

  57. Dorian says:

Why do I find myself secretly hoping that Coke lets one on just to see the Franchise?

  58. Jake says:

    Marky Mark!!

  59. Drew says:

That’s how you do that shit.

  60. pat says:

    Coke gets ridiculously lucky again..

  61. Rich D. says:

YES YES YES YES! TEX BABY! Giambi would not have made that one!

  62. Sam P. says:

Damn, someone get Tex a gold glove. Nice play.

  63. Jersey says:

Give that man a Gold Glove

  64. Andy Stankiewicz says:

Tex is very good at baseball. Not good, very good.

  65. Riddering says:

    I love this team.

  66. Oh fuck yes. Way to induce the hard-hit line-drive, Coke. Just like they drew it up.

  67. Phil Coke >>> Baltimore’s rampant criminal narcotics industry

  68. cola825 says:

Glad to see no Hughes tonight. Can probably go 2 tomorrow if need be.

  69. Jersey says:

I’d love one more insurance run…or five.

  70. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    Tex: 3829592385

    Giambi: 0

  71. Drew says:

Youkilis makes the 3rd out in the 8th. Tex 3-1

  72. Salty Buggah says:

    Sweet Tex and Coke

  73. Dela G says:

    i love mark T

  74. Jamal G. says:

Aubrey Huff since May 12th (first game after he fist-pumped his way around the bases vs. Joba in Baltimore): 250/.310/.384. Douchebag.

  75. Rich D. says:

    Cokes Line: 1.0 IP, 1 Hit, 0 Runs, 0 ER, 9 PC, ERA: 3.76.

Yanks have 8 walks tonight. Thats what I call patient.

    The sandman is warming up!

  76. YankeeScribe says:

Is there a reason why Bruney, Melancon, or Robertson aren’t getting innings?

    • A.D. says:

Starting pitching going deep into games & close games. Coke, Hughes, and Aceves are clearly the A relievers right now, and for good reason.

      • Still, though, you have to work them in sometime. You just have to.

It’s analogous to Cody Ransom starting tonight. Sure, you wanna trot the A lineup out there every night, but you’ll run your starters into the ground and turn your bench into piles of rust.

        • A.D. says:

Yeah you do, and I’m sure they will, or else if this maintains some reliever will be sent down. Coming out of the break they’ve had bit of a rarity of a bunch of close games and everyone being rested up out of the break.

    • Rich D. says:

Bruney has been terrible and its too risky to bring him in in close games (which the Yanks have only played so far).

I think Robertson deserves more trust but he was rocky his last time out in LA.
Melancon is still young and will get his time but he is not gonna be first in line from the BP.

    • Tank the Frank says:

I think the games have just been too close of late. 2-1 every day. I personally would like to see Bruney get his work in. Having him back to form would be a UUUUGE boost.

  77. JGS says:

    Mjollnir warming in the pen…

  78. A.D. says:

Coke’s velocity ticking upwards from the beginning of the season:

  79. Jamal G. says:

Phil Coke and Mark Teixeira the best tag-team duo since the Dudley Boyz (“Devon, GET THE TABLE!!!”)? I think so.

  80. Ivan says:

Whats that smell……is that 1st place?

  81. ShuutoHeat says:

Again, I say they do a “legends of Mark Teixeira” segment.

tall tales like… Tex catching a bullet with his bare hands…

  82. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

Who is this #24 and what the hell did he do with Robbie?

  83. Steve in PDX says:

  84. A.D. says:

Michael you ever wonder how things would be different if the country was settled West to East

And they’ve run out of things to talk about.

  85. Rich D. says:

Damn! Hit on the screws! Here comes MO!

  86. cookie monster says:

john henry will tweet about his 2nd place team

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

He will mention something about payroll, bitch, acting like the Sox don’t make any money or mention 0-8 FWIW for him.

      • Sam P. says:

Yeah, he’s got a real inferiority complex, which is weird considering the success he’s helped bring to the Boston franchise.

        Oh well!

  87. JGS says:

yea, the Oriole outfield can throw…now here comes Mo

  88. Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

Saw the Erin Andrews full tape today. Not bad. Feel bad for her a little.

  89. Salty Buggah says:

    Nice arm Jones.

Melky’s slumping. Get Gardy in there now. I hope Melky climbs back up the cliff.

  90. Accent Shallow says:

    Oh, Melky.

    Heat back up, please?

  91. Dela G says:

man that was a swisha-like baserunning error

  92. Ivan says:

Mo makes it look so mothafuckin easy.

  93. Tom Zig says:

Mo can tackle Scott Stevens and Kyle Farnsworth at the same time

  94. Rich D. says:

Who says Jeter lost his range?

  95. Drew says:

    Jetes is beastin
    4-1 Rangers

  96. Accent Shallow says:

This Mariano fella is good at pitching.

  97. Ivan says:

I like Wieters but he has no chance here

  98. Jersey says:

Texas now up 4-1 in the 8th

  99. A.D. says:

    teh range!!!!

Enjoyed that Kay dropped a UZR mention, even if not by name.

  100. Moshe Mandel says:

    Wow. Bobby Jenks implosion.

    • Johan Iz My Brohan says:

I want the Rays to win, hopefully they will creep up the standings and make Boston fall to 3rd place.

  101. Dela G says:

  102. Steve in PDX says:

    4-1 Tejas

  103. VO says:

  105. Ivan says:

    Yankees win bitches, yankees win.

  106. Tom Zig says:

    We’re going streaking!

  107. VO says:

That was a nice play by Jete.

  108. Drew says:

  109. Steve in PDX says:

  110. Mike Axisa says:

    First place. All alone. Bitches.

  111. Derek Jeter is one hell of a leftfielder.

  112. pat says:

Melk had that easily but jeter wanted teh glory.

  113. Accent Shallow says:

    Yay Mo! Yay win!

    Take that, Orioles Jesus!

  114. Dela G says:

and thanks for scoring just enough runs for sergio yanks

  115. Jake says:

    I can has first place??

  116. Drew says:

Big Sloppi leads off the 9th with an out

  117. Jersey says:

Wilson on to close it out in Arlington

  118. Salty Buggah says:

  119. LiveFromNewYork says:

That’s what you get when you wish injuries on our captain.

  120. Rich D. says:

    1 out!

  121. Jersey says:

CJ Wilson looks like a child molester

  122. LiveFromNewYork says:

    Nice win for Mitre.

  123. Riddering says:

Jeter’s putting out the sign: I aten’t dead yet!

  124. Rich D. says:

Sergio Mirte: 1st win as a Yankee! Good start… earned another one.
Ace: another hold (5)…. solid pitching again and only threw 12 pitches.
Coke: got a hold (11)…. also solid pitching and only threw 9 pitches.
Mo: Mo is Mo… 27th Save. 23 straight without blowing one!

All around good game on all cylinders for the bombers! We are RED RED HOT!

  129. Rich D. says:

  130. Salty Buggah says:

CMON get out of this Wilson please!

  131. Rich D. says:

  132. Drew says:

Captain America grounds out. Yanks in first.

  133. Salty Buggah says:

    Sox lose!

    1st place!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  134. Dela G says:

  135. AJ says:

    Rangers WIN!!!!!

  136. Tank the Frank says:

Someone call Francesa and tell him Joba has better numbers than Porcello. Give him Porcello’s last five starts!

  137. Cokie says:

I believe the last 2 times the yankees got up to 1st place they went streaking in the wrong direction. Third time the charm?

  138. Tom Zig says:

    First place…allll alone

  139. Jersey says:

    Hellooooo first

  140. Chip says:

    Smells like first place!

  141. A.D. says:

    And 1st, solo possession

  142. JobaWockeeZ says:

Suck on that Boston! First AGAIN DESPITE 0-8. They must not be as good as the Yankees with every other team in the league or something.

    • Dude… I’m right there with you… But I’d be careful about trying to make the Yanks’ 0-8 record against the Sox into a positive. I mean… Yeah… The Yanks have a better record than the Sox if you disregard the head-to-head series… But they’re still 0-8 against the Sox head-to-head.

      • That should have read: better record overall… and much better record if you disregard the head-to-head series…

        You know what I meant.

      • JobaWockeeZ says:

Well yeah it’s not really good that they are 0-8 but it’s not like Boston is completely dominating us. Like when Mo blew a save or when the Yanks were 6-0 with AJ on the mound, etc. And we don’t know the whole story yet since the Sox only played 2 games at YS3.
Anyways it feels good being in first despite 0-8. But the Yanks surely won’t stay winless against Boston and if they can start taking more series from them, they can hopefully easily win the AL East.

        • “Well yeah it’s not really good that they are 0-8 but it’s not like Boston is completely dominating us. Like when Mo blew a save or when the Yanks were 6-0 with AJ on the mound, etc…”

Dude, I hear you… But 0-8 is 0-8. All the other stuff is just excuses, it’s just noise. The Yanks will play them again and will win their share of the remaining games, and they look great right now. But 0-8 is 0-8.

But yeah, it’s nice to be in first, despite the head-to-head record. Totally.

  143. nyrfan says:

man it feels good to be a gangsta

  144. Jake H says:

    First is so sweet!

  145. Sam P. says:

What ever will they talk about on SportsCenter and Baseball Tonight?!?!

  146. donttradecano says:

    gotta love being in first

  147. Tom Zig says:

    i hate my9.

  148. Dela G says:

  149. Ivan says:

Next morning, I’ll wake up and my team will be in sole possession of 1st place.

  150. bonestock94 says:

Mitre looks promising. Lets see what he does against a good team..

  151. Manimal says:

Now if only we couldve won a couple games against the sox…

  152. Tank the Frank says:

Effing Rays are coming on strong. I really wish they’d go away.

  153. AJ says:

Lets calm down, we need to keep this lead and make some breathing room.

  154. Drew says:

heh, just saw the mets lost again. Oli Perez with a solid 6 inning 6 BB performance.

  155. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    “Frustrating games.”

    Sorry grumpy old fella.

  156. ShuutoHeat says:

    What’s this? Wakefield is injured??

  157. Drew says:

Ha today is the anniversary of Phelps for Buhner.
    Ken Phelps Ken Phelps
