      Overusing our own bullpen ftl:(

      • http://theyankeeuniverse.com Moshe Mandel

? Robertson threw 19 pitches last night, and was at 25 pitches tonight. It was the right move to pull him, and getting the platoon advantage was just a bonus.

        • Tony

Yeah, meaning he’s not going to pitch again for several days. He can throw 5 more pitches. At the VERY LEAST you do not bring Coke in again. He’s getting Torre’d.

They’re up 7 runs. You don’t use a member of “The Circle” or whatever Girardi calls his mental crutch.

Some people just need to find something to complain about.

          • Tony

I know, doesn’t matter at if if you burn out your bullpen in meaningless spots facing a stretch of 18 straight days with games. NP.

so do melancon and claggett actually pitch or are ace, hughes and mo on call unless we get like 5 more runs?

    • JobaWockeeZ

Well Hughes is out. If people are on base Mo might be used. But for me I want to see Melancon.

    • http://www.twitter.com/wahbjo01 Jordan

When there are 4 outs left, we’ll see Mo.

  • Riddering

Just nine more outs. Even with shaky available arms and Girardi’s managing, we can get nine more outs with little harm, right?

  • Drew

lol, this does not feel like an 11-4 game.

    • Randy A.

      NO SUCH THING!

      • JobaWockeeZ

He has to pitch sometime or another. Effective Bruney is a huge boost. He’s getting there.

  • Yankee1010

Man, I know Coke got Ortiz out, but it was unnecessary to pull D-Rob there. He struck out 3 guys and they have a 7 run lead. Even if Ortiz jacks one, it’s still a 4 run lead. Now they’re torching the bullpen for sure again tonight.

    Oh well.

This team has shown some serious fight again tonight. You have to like how they get back up again after getting behind. This team has that special feel.

        • Drew

I’d ask you the opposite, have you ever agreed with anything we’ve done? You’re always a negative nancy.

I’m just saying, one day people complain that Mel never pitches, Joe brings him in, and people ask why he didn’t bring in a AAA pitcher. I don’t get it.

          • Tony

I don’t think anyone had a problem with Melancon pitching tonight. The problem is the general trend of using 4 and 5 pitchers for no reason every night. Notice how Boston has given up 13 runs but will have their entire bullpen fresh and available tomorrow. This is sloppy/dumb management our of Girardi.

  • baravelli

I was fine with Coke throwing two pitches to get Ortiz and get out of the inning. But I am completely flabbergasted with him coming out to start the seventh, let alone – my god – pitching all the way through it!

      defense

    • Chip

His mom called, it was past his bed time

    • Riddering

I was curious about that too but Girardi probably figured his bat isn’t needed any more and Hairston has better defense.

It doesn’t really seem necessary either way but…

  • adeel

I think Girardi’s strategy was to use Coke (part of the circle) to get to the point where the “1 run here, 2-runs here” type of offense doesn’t bite them in the $$$ by the time the 9th rolls around…. As long as Melancon is somewhat effective, I expect Bruney or even Clagget if their lead gets bigger.

  • Salty Buggah

    Melancon’s 1st experience in the rivalry…good timing

    • pat

nah he pitched in a blowout earlier this season. He walked like 3 or 4 dudes, we were getting killed and it was shitty out.

      bet its tex or arod

    • V

So Burnett will have to do it in the 1st to get both benches warned.

      • e mills

        I like that plan ;)

  • ShuutoHeat

    LOL, Dennis the menace

  • J Squared

Reddick… Major League Dink. Nope, i’ve never used that word before.

  • Salty Buggah

Reddick looks like True Boston material

  • Drew

    Love the curve

  • Hova

Beckett will be head hunting tomorrow. Dear Derek Jeter, please keep your wrists out of the box. Last thing we need is to the lose the captain to a pitch out of retaliation.

    • Zack

the umps are most likely going to warn both teams prior to the game, so let him go up and get kicked out

      • Salty Buggah

yea that and we get a free baserunner

      • Hova

That would be awesome. I hope that’s the case. Hate Beckett with a vengeance.

  • handtius

Don’t think the plunk was on purpose.

    • LiveFromNewYork

      I don’t think so either.

  • Zack

    Cano is good at defense

  • LiveFromNewYork

    Tex is money.

  • J Squared

at Second Base, Gold Glover, Robinson Cano.

  • Jersey

    aaaand another LOB for Papi

    • Yankees_Universe

      also 0 for last 16

  • Tony

    Jeterian play from Robbie.

  • nyrfan

god tex is alwayys on his a game…what a great pick up, where this team would be without him

    • Zack

where would this team be with Tex as a Red Sox

  • putt

    That play was awesomely embarrassing.

  • Mike Pop

    Woot

  • Nigel Bangs

My manager’s wife is sitting in Johnny Damon’s suite with his wife, michelle. that is totally awesome.

    • Jose

Can he pass along my number?

  • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Can every week the Yankees play be Shark Week?

    • Dela G

      or HOPE week

    • Steve H

      Are you baiting me?

      • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

        Perhaps.

        • Steve H

          Dork.

          • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

So, after Shark Week is over, what about me will make you call me a dork?

            • putt

Do you, perchance, rock a pocket-protector?

            • Steve H

The next time you start a post with “Call me a dork”, I will have more ammo.

          • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Someone wanna hop on the play index from BR and find out when the last time a team won a game in which its starter went five innings, gave up four runs, and walked seven?

            • http://bronxbaseballdaily.com Matt ACTY/BBD

Replay fail by me. And no, putt, I don’t have one.

              • putt

                Then I’ve got nothing.

  • nyrfan

gaudin to start in the pen according to kepner

  • http://www.twitter.com/wahbjo01 Jordan

    OFFENSIVE ORGY!!

  • Jose

An offensive orgy? It cannot be unheard!!!

  • J Squared

An Offensive Orgy? Can you say that on My9?

  • Drew

Offensive Orgy? did I just hear that?

  • ShuutoHeat

Come on, work the count on Saito tire him a bit as well.

  • Accent Shallow

From watching him this year, I can’t see how Saito was Shiva with the Dodgers.

Has the stuff gotten that much worse with the elbow injury?

    • Zack

      yes

      • Zack

lost velocity and probably sharpness on his secondary pitches

  • Salty Buggah

So do we see Claggett today? I hope so

  • Faiaz

The funnier part about Michael’s comment was Ken’s giggle right after.

  • Souter Fell

alright, 3 little outs. let’s make it official

  • Faiaz

Doesn’t the two guys from the Verizon FIOS commercial look exactly like Pedroia and Youkilis?

    • J.D.

Not a bad comparison, Doesn’t Aceves look like Leyritz?

  • http://www.twitter.com/wahbjo01 Jordan

It is pretty great how Traber’s performance tonight was better than Smoltz’s

    • Accent Shallow

I approve. Wonder if this knocks Smoltz to the pen.

      • http://www.twitter.com/wahbjo01 Jordan

For what? Dice-K’s hurt, ditto Wake. Byrd won’t be ready until Sept.

  • handtius

I’m starting to hate these NYvsB games. 4 fucking hours. I like baseball, but damn, I’m tired.

  • nyrfan

    HINSKE the defensive replacement. hahaha

  • Souter Fell

wow, that guy with the glove looks like a real d-bag

  • handtius

    Claaaaaaag-it. …….with a 4 pitch walk.

  • JackC

A small point, but: can SOMEONE tell Michael Kaye that the Dodgers do, in fact, have names on the back of their unis? FOr some bizarre confluence of reasons, it’s like the third time I’ve heard him say that in a couple of weeks. And, of course, he’s not only wrong, but gratingly smug in his wrongness

  • http://www.twitter.com/wahbjo01 Jordan

    Walk? Bust.

  • http://deleted RollingWave

Clagrett can’t possibly raise his ERA … right?

    • Steve H

2 run HR here and Joe will go to MO, that’ll raise it.

      • http://www.twitter.com/wahbjo01 Jordan

No, one more out. He won’t go to Mo for 5, only 4.

  • Dela G

uh oh, claggett starts walking peeps

  • Accent Shallow

    Another walk. Christ.

  • Salty Buggah

    lower that 43.50 ERA Claggett

    • Jersey

That first out carved 7.5 runs off, LOL

  • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

    J-Hair with the mad hopz!

  • Steve H

Great. We finally get a bad call to go our way, and it’s in a 9 run game.

  • Salty Buggah

should be at least 14 runs if not for a base-running error

    /nitpick

  • Dela G

    my god man

    quit walkin people

  • Souter Fell

who else we got waitin in the wings?

    • LiveFromNewYork

      Everyone’s gone home.

  • Salty Buggah

    Nick Green DP here

    • Salty Buggah

      that works too

  • yankeefan91 Arod fan

So do the yanks keep Gaudin for this year and next ?

    • whozat

      They can if they want.

    • Salty Buggah

      sure why not

  • handtius

We’re trying to tire out the sox hitters by walking all of them.

  • whozat

Just went to look at the pitchfx data for Joba and Smoltz, and it was interesting. The ump was consistent, yes, but he took away a six inch box on the outside corner to righties/inside corner to lefties. So, unless the ball was several inches above the knee and several inches IN from the edge of the plate, it was a ball.

That’s just impossible. It means the slider is basically useless unless you’re trying to backdoor it. No one has to swing at anything heading towards that half of the plate unless it’s thigh high.

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

So basically Joba pitched a lot better than it looked like on TV?

      • Steve H

        Mo I hope so.

      • whozat

        They both did.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

When Claggett strikes you out, you know you suck.

    • J Squared

haha, i said the same thing.

  • LiveFromNewYork

    Grit come back!!!!

  • Zack

    ERA goes back up

  • http://www.twitter.com/wahbjo01 Jordan

Should have hit him, just to see the aftermath.

    • LiveFromNewYork

      ha

    • ShuutoHeat

      hmm… angry Squirrel….

  • LiveFromNewYork

Could we please end this game????

  • J Squared

uhh… i’ll take someone else now, thanks.

    • LiveFromNewYork

No let him pitch out of it

  • Salty Buggah

DAMN! Hurting our run differential and helping theirs!!!!

  • Dela G

    yikes

get the next guy out please

  • http://www.twitter.com/wahbjo01 Jordan

Mo!? Let’s see how desperate Girardi really is.

  • Zack

i love the gritty stat padding players they have

  • Russell NY

    Wow, goodbye claggett

    • Hova

JoeG: “Hey, um, Andrew, can I see you for a minute? You don’t know how to throw strikes, so you can’t stay in the majors. You made me lose out on an extra 15 minutes of sleep. Have a safe trip home”

      • handtius

        Anthony.

        • Steve H

LOL. I think Andrew worked better for the post.

        • pat

Dunno if that was intentional or not but the joke would be so much better if Girardi called him by the wrong name.

  • J Squared

    Igawa? Thanks.

  • handtius

    4 hrs and 1 min.

  • Salty Buggah

    Boston stat padders?

Seriously, what would you do if we blew a 9 run lead with 2 outs in the 9th?

  • http://twitter.com/Hopjake Jake H

This is why you don’t walk guys.

    • Zack

thats why people are wrong when they call for young unproven rookies to go in 3-4 run games because “its not a close game”

  • http://www.twitter.com/wahbjo01 Jordan

Ballgame! Ramiro Pena, get your shoes on and come on down!

  • Souter Fell

Finally against the BoSox and to put us 3 1/2 games in first, THEEEEEEEEEEEE Yankees Win!

  • LiveFromNewYork

I came in late and am sick of Michael Kay. How did you do it for 4 hours?

    • JobaWockeeZ

Easy, Fios fucking up TV so I can’t watch it.

    • http://www.twitter.com/wahbjo01 Jordan

Once he busted out the word “orgy” it was all better again.

  • Accent Shallow

Please tell me Girardi isn’t warming Hughes/Aceves/Mo.

  • Drew

    WOOHOOOO~

    1-8, I’ll take it.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

    Victor Martinez. BUST

  • Salty Buggah

    0-8 no mo BITCHES!!!!

  • handtius

    it’s over…goog god.

  • Jersey

Jesus Christ. And we have to do this three more times this weekend.

  • dkidd

    no “yay claggett! yay win!”?

    • Accent Shallow

That’s usually my line, so I’ll oblige.

      Yay Claggett! Yay win!

      • dkidd

        thank you!

  • Drew

Eduardo Perez, expert coverage: “He(Posada) means big to the Yankees.”

He means big? wtf? English please Eduardo.

  • http://twitter.com/Hopjake Jake H

The Got Rings shirt I wore tonight will be worn tomorrow night for good luck.

    • putt

as will my old school mattingly t-shirt

      • http://twitter.com/Hopjake Jake H

I was thinking of wearing that but decided I needed to remind myself that we have a lot more rings then they do.

  • Zack

“Smoltz 92 pitches tonight, 2 swing and misses” -Olney

  • Yankee1010

    Anybody see this from Kepner:

SIZING UP A PROSPECT Miguel Angel Sano, a top shortstop prospect in the Dominican Republic, has played in games at the Yankees’ Dominican academy the last two days.

The Yankees are among several teams interested in signing Sano, who could command more than $3 million and has already undergone DNA and bone-scan testing by Major League Baseball to prove his identity and age.

    Interesting.

    • http://twitter.com/Hopjake Jake H

His agent said they are taking the money period. That was that #1 thing.

  • http://twitter.com/Hopjake Jake H

Yanks dominate the Sox and MLB network talks about how Pedroia plays big. Pathetic.

    • Pasqua

      I’m with you. See below.

      • BklynJT

And two of those went to the benefit of the Sox. And we still won. Thank you Yankees

  • Pasqua

Just to let it be known: The angle that MLB Network is taking on the game is that Dustin Pedroia made a great, heads-up play to get Posada thrown-out at home in the 2nd inning.

That’s what they’re going with. Pedroia. Relay throw. 2nd inning.

    Holy shit.

    • Zack

NESN post game mentioned the new stadium about 10 times in the first 3 minutes

    • JobaWockeeZ

Heh ESPN’s game recap was about Muhammad Ali…and that’s it. No game recap whatsoever.

    • putt

as a life long middle-infielder, that play was NOT a headsup play. he took a shot, knowing that nobody else would advance on the play and he had a .0003 chance to get him, so what the hell? why not?

I’ve made that throw a hundred times and it’s worked maybe once or twice (which I guess defies my previously stated odds). Point being, it’s just a shot in the dark that he took, there was nothing cagey or otherwordly about it.

get of this guy’s dick, he’s only 5-6, he can’t be packing enough for ESPN and MLBN

      • Zack

considering Cano and Swisher were standing on second and first respectively, no one was moving up a base

        • Zack

it was a heads up play, he knew Posada was trying to score from second. it was limited risk and high reward play

          • putt

we agree on those points, I think we’re just off on our definitions of “headsup.” or maybe it’s just my bitter hatred of all things red sox that would rather call it a bonehead play on Jorge’s part as opposed to a genius play on Pedroia’s.

            • Zack

I agree. It shouldnt be the main highlight of the game, and it was more Jorge’s fault for shutting down a gear half way home

              • putt

Good, I can take you off of my “people to trip and then run away” list now. Next up, Jared from Subway.

  • BklynJT

Just saw the highlights of the game, and I believe the first 3 homeruns were cheapies that would not of been out at the old stadium.

    • Mike Pop

Yep. But this means nothing now.

  • Zack

How the hell was Prince Fielder only fined? That dude needs anger management

  • Souter Fell

so if gaudin aint going monday, who is? not Mitre (please, please, please if have tickets)

    • Dela G

mitre will go for sure. Gaudin pitched a couple of days ago. He needs rest

    • BklynJT

Sucks for you, but its not like Gaudin would be any better. Fly ball pitcher in new yankee stadium, no thanks. Anyway, we’ll still win. Poot it in da books.

  • Mark H

Gaudin pitched yesterday, same as Mitre so they both line up for Monday, maybe Mitre starts, and Gaudin follows him?

  • http://Broadband Donovan Dismang

I have spent a lot of time researching verizon internet through fios and the cable tv and satellite company options available. Would anyone out there feel that cable could actually be better than Verizon Fios internet? Is just seems that there is no way to compare between the available options based on the pure speed of the network and setop box funtionality for managing your viewing.
