Game 108 Spillover Thread III

Alright guys, let’s get this over with.

Categories : Game Threads

  1. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Facing an overused bullpen ftw!

  2. Observer283 says:

I love it when you call me BIG POP–UP.

  3. Tony, re: Viagra ads:

Pop needs all the help he can get.

  4. Mikebk says:

so do melancon and claggett actually pitch or are ace, hughes and mo on call unless we get like 5 more runs?

  5. Riddering says:

Just nine more outs. Even with shaky available arms and Girardi’s managing, we can get nine more outs with little harm, right?

  6. Drew says:

lol, this does not feel like an 11-4 game.

  7. Jordan says:

I feel badly for Traber. This is just wrong.

  8. Zack says:

    Boston is 1-14 with RISP

  9. cjc says:

well could this lead be bruney proof

  10. Yankee1010 says:

Man, I know Coke got Ortiz out, but it was unnecessary to pull D-Rob there. He struck out 3 guys and they have a 7 run lead. Even if Ortiz jacks one, it’s still a 4 run lead. Now they’re torching the bullpen for sure again tonight.

    Oh well.

This team has shown some serious fight again tonight. You have to like how they get back up again after getting behind. This team has that special feel.

  11. Salty Buggah says:

overuse and abuse that pen more Yanks offense!!!

  12. Jose says:

Come on Francona, let us wear out some of the other arms in the bullpen.

  13. Salty Buggah says:

    Swisha walk!

  14. Yankees_Universe says:

If Yankees can pull one more inning like 4th inning it will set them for rest of the series..just kill all the available Sox BP arms…

  15. Jordan says:

So lefty righty matchups in the 6th up 11-4, but then pinch run for for Swisher with Hairston?

  16. Drew says:

I wish I coulda seen Kenny and Eddie play

    • claybeez says:

Moved from NY to MD as a kid. I remember games at Memorial Stadium. The crowd would go nuts when Eddie was up in a big situation. Though, B-more kinda had a love/hate thing with him. It was a more racist place, then. And he was dark and proud.

  17. Thomas A. Anderson says:

We all love the team and the rivalry (when we’re winning :)), obviously, but 3 hours to get to the bottom of the 6th inning? Really?

  18. Mike Pop says:

    Woooo !

    Chad Gaudin!!!

  19. Drew says:

THANK GOD! Gaudin will finally cut that monstrosity on his chin.

  20. Randy A. says:

    Chad Godan?

  21. Chad Gaudin? Interesting?

  22. Souter Fell says:

okay, gaudin on monday, better than mitre

  23. Dela G says:

wow, the yankees got chad gaudin from the padres

  24. J Squared says:

Honestly, i think we will all like Chad.

  25. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

What about Chad Guadin or whoever he said?

  26. Salty Buggah says:

Francona is abusing Traber right now…we need to score some runs off of him so other parts of the pen can come in and get burned

  27. BklynJT says:

    Dear RAB,

How you like me now bitches?

    The Milkman

  28. putt says:

AL East is a wrap! Chad Gaudan (sp?) is on his way. Gaudan is French-Canadian for “Gamechanger.”

  29. adeel says:

micheal K beat mlbtr? never thought I would see the day.

  30. V says:

Well, Chad will have to shave that squirrel off his chin:

  31. Mikebk says:

Chad Gaudin can start or be in the pen. better than sergio.

  32. Randy A. says:

    This is allegedly Gaudin’s girlfriend:

    • Pasqua says:

      Can she pitch the 8th?

    • Jersey says:

      Wow. He’s doing something right.

    • Randy A. says:

      That would be a bonus.

      Little side story:

I was at the D-backs Phillies game last tuesday when Dan Haren was pitching against Cole Hamels and I ended up sitting in the same section as all of the players girlfriends and wives. Surprisingly…none of them were good looking. It was a huge let down.

  33. Jersey says:

    Gaudin Gaudin Gaudin Malkovich

  34. cjc says:

a bit greedy jeets but hey if there was ever a spot to take a chance

  35. nyrfan says:

    gaudin sucks

  36. adeel says:

Cashman: “Mitre doesn’t give a crap cuz he knows we aint bringing Igawa up, so I need someone at AAA that can make Mitre scared”

  37. Jordan says:

    via T-Kep’s Twitter:

Gaudin this season: 4-10, 5.13 ERA. He’s also the pitcher Tom Verducci faced in spring training with the Jays. I think Tom popped out.

  38. J Squared says:

Gaudin… no wins since June 28, i’m putting money on a win his first start.

  39. Souter Fell says:

he’s been starting for sd so i assume he’s our 5th

  40. pat says:

    For anybody interested… Gaudin 105 IP 4.58 era 1.52 whip. 7 k/9 4.3bb/9.

25 y/o so he’s got that going for him.

  41. Jake H says:

Hopefully a Mark M sighting tonight.

  42. Salty Buggah says:

    burn Coke too?

  43. cjc says:

    hey a walk something new

  44. Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

Hungry Hungry Humberto says “Don’t forget about me, Ca$hman.”

  45. Souter Fell says:

last 30 days, gaudin with a 4.55 era with one blowout inflating that

  46. Drew says:

Holy shit, why do we have to walk these dudes. C’mon Cokey, you’re better than that.

  47. Cokie says:

I just had a flashback to Paul Quantrill on the mound.

  48. e mills says:

why’s coke out there? is clagget still up? put him in and burn the innings…

    • Drew says:

Wasn’t everyone whining last night that none of our “regulars” get inning? Now we want to pitch Claggs? I don’t get it.

      • Tony says:

Has anyone even tangentially associated with the Yankees’ organization ever done something that you weren’t immediately willing to make an excuse for? I keep waiting.

        • Drew says:

I’d ask you the opposite, have you ever agreed with anything we’ve done? You’re always a negative nancy.

I’m just saying, one day people complain that Mel never pitches, Joe brings him in, and people ask why he didn’t bring in a AAA pitcher. I don’t get it.

          • Tony says:

I don’t think anyone had a problem with Melancon pitching tonight. The problem is the general trend of using 4 and 5 pitchers for no reason every night. Notice how Boston has given up 13 runs but will have their entire bullpen fresh and available tomorrow. This is sloppy/dumb management our of Girardi.

  49. baravelli says:

I was fine with Coke throwing two pitches to get Ortiz and get out of the inning. But I am completely flabbergasted with him coming out to start the seventh, let alone – my god – pitching all the way through it!

  50. Souter Fell says:

before the blowout 24.2 ips with 5 ER’s

  51. J Squared says:

    Girardi knows, Coke is special.

  52. pat says:

Sox are losing 12-4 and have used 2 pitchers we’re going through our 4th. YAAAAAAAAAAY MELANCON

  53. Drew says:

I like it. Come on Melancon, welcome to the real deal.

  54. Riddering says:

    Melancon lives!

  55. Souter Fell says:

hopefully he can find and rule the strike zone

  56. Pasqua says:

RAB Readers rejoice! Melancon. Mark Melancon.

  57. Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

    Is it pronounced Marr-kk?

  58. Accent Shallow says:

I really want Melancon to succeed and become a power late inning arm, but I hate his delivery

  59. So why did Swisher leave the game?

  60. adeel says:

I think Girardi’s strategy was to use Coke (part of the circle) to get to the point where the “1 run here, 2-runs here” type of offense doesn’t bite them in the $$$ by the time the 9th rolls around…. As long as Melancon is somewhat effective, I expect Bruney or even Clagget if their lead gets bigger.

  61. Salty Buggah says:

    Melancon’s 1st experience in the rivalry…good timing

    • pat says:

nah he pitched in a blowout earlier this season. He walked like 3 or 4 dudes, we were getting killed and it was shitty out.

      • Rick in Boston says:

His first ML appearance I believe was in Fenway (I’ve got a photo of him in the pen). It was the same game where Ellsbury stole home.

  62. Mike Pop says:

    You can’t walk Nick Green.

  63. cjc says:

    brutal 10 fucking walks

  64. Accent Shallow says:

Walking Nick Green when you’re up 8 runs? Christ, Mark.

  65. Souter Fell says:

do the baseballs and posada’s glove have magnets of the same charge?

  66. handtius says:

i guess they are trying to work some extra pitches, all these walks.

  67. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    Melancon getting squeezed too.

  68. Accent Shallow says:

    Uh oh, hope Johnny’s ok.

  69. J Squared says:

  70. Riddering says:

If Johnny’s arm doesn’t come off or twist the other way, I expect him to keep playing.

  71. pat says:

    Nice pitch bro.

  72. Accent Shallow says:

    You got nuthin’, Dreamboat.

  73. Dela G says:

    great job melancon

lets hope he gets to finish the game

  74. Salty Buggah says:

Ellsbury got buried by Melancon’s curve!!!!!!!!

  75. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

Melancon strikes out Ellsbury that felt GOOD!

  76. Souter Fell says:

am i the only one who takes of his hat at home at God Bless America?

  77. Souter Fell says:

oh and mets down by 2 already, must be slightly past 10 pm

  78. Riddering says:

    I love The Contours.

  79. Reggie C. says:

I wonder what the score would be tomorrow if Yankee pitchers gave up HALF as many walks to the RS lineup with Beckett pitching on their end…

    Definitely not this.

    C’mon Melancon. Cure tonight’s walk-itis ..

  80. Jersey says:

    They took out Youk.

  81. Mike Pop says:

    Marky Mark!

  82. pat says:

  83. J Squared says:

  84. BklynJT says:

Phil Hughes is a clown, and I love it!

  85. Bob Stone says:

    Go Tex!

  86. Drew says:

haha wtf was Phil munchin on out there.

  87. Salty Buggah says:

    TEX stat paddin!!!!!!!!

  88. Accent Shallow says:

    Tex, you freakin’ stat-padder!

    Phil Hughes is hilarious.

  89. Cokie says:

Billy’s not that good. I feel bad for him.

    • Zack says:

hes not good for 10 pitches, francona has him out there for 60+ when he hasnt thrown more than 2 innings at a time in over a month

    • Zack says:

hes not good for 10 pitches, francona has him out there for 60+ when he hasnt thrown more than 2 innings at a time in over a month

  90. ShuutoHeat says:

LOL Hughes ran out to snatch the ball, his hair a mess under the cap.

At this point, it’s like batting practice.

  91. Souter Fell says:

Nice Tex. And i’m diggin relxed lookin Phil Hughes hangin in the pen. He’s like Spiccoli.

  92. Randy A. says:

    A Tex message!

  93. Jose says:

Are they trying to blow out Traber’s arm?

  94. Mikebk says:

traber really thrown to the wolves.

claggett for at least an inning.

  95. Jordan says:

This is insane. Traber should just tell Francona to screw himself. He’s getting sent down anyway, he can’t pitch for a week at the rate he’s going.

BTW, the “woosh” noise that comes from Teixeira’s exhale when he murders a ball is the greatest sound ever.

    • putt says:

HA! he didn’t have enough left to throw the ball overhand for the final out. Francona’s off his xmas card list.

  96. Accent Shallow says:

They really are hanging Traber out to dry.

  97. Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

Did anyone see Skip Bayless on “First Take” today?

  98. putt says:

It’s sad to watch arod give that ab away.

  99. Salty Buggah says:

ooh you know Alex was trying to go deep there but he popped up

  100. Accent Shallow says:

Yankees pitching has given up 10 (!) walks through 7 innings. Most of that is Joba’s fault.

  101. J Squared says:

hmm… beating up on the “deepest Team”… at which point will Gammons commit suicide?

  102. Dela G says:

    boy they are killing traber

  103. ShuutoHeat says:

OOh they’re going to throw Saito into sharks next. I think Traber’s arm is hanging by a string.

  104. Bob Stone says:

JoPo – Let’s hit the cycle!

  105. Salty Buggah says:

Traber’s going to need TJS at this rate

  106. J Squared says:

wow, Traber is like every other pitcher who faces the yanks, ball hit at you, close eyes and stick glove up…

  107. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Heh I love Sox fans.

“None of them has Westmoreland talent

Even Montero (a future DH), BTW Westy line tonight: 2-3 with a BB. His OPS now is .900+”

Yeah they are nearly the same age, Montero is trying to be at a premium. position, similar numbers oh wait Montero’s a Yankee? Bust.

  108. Yankees_Universe says:

Can Hankestein pay some money to Fox so that they can broadcast on My9

    • Klemy says:

I actually talked to a guy at verizon about that tonight. Apparnetly their excuse for this game was a blackout error, I said, “For the whole season???”

      • Klemy says:

IN reference to Western NY not getting My9 games…we don’t want them on that channel here. My9 is apparently restricted to NYC they say at Verizon. Don’t curse us with My9 games, please! I had to watch this on Gameday in text!

  109. Dustin Pedroia was a second round pick, not a diamond in the rough find by the Red Sox organization.

  110. Souter Fell says:

    angry midget, look out

  111. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    Yay Melancon!

    Nice seeing him hit Pedroia

  112. Jordan says:

    Boo hoo! Poor Dustin.

  113. J Squared says:

    Auto Man Crush on Melancon

  114. pat says:

    I approve.

  115. Drew says:

Fuck Pedroia but wtf, can someone throw a damn strike.

  116. Accent Shallow says:

Shut your mouth and move along, short stuff

  117. Salty Buggah says:

    Nice bean there

  118. Reggie C. says:

Why would Melancon pick on the little people?

  119. Cokie says:

Ooooh. Kay’s got the hots for Dusty.

  120. Tony says:

Marky Mark would wreck Dusty. Go get ya fackin shinebox.

    Obligatory “Shut up, Kay.”

  121. putt says:

I really hope that wasn’t on purpose…they don’t need to ignite any shit here…or later.

  122. Mike Pop says:

Melancon looks like he never sees the sun.

  123. Hova says:

So who gets plunked on our side now? My money is on Jeter.

  124. JobaWockeeZ says:

Don’t worry Melancon if Pedroia even THINKS about starting a fight, Joe Girardi will back you up.

  125. [...] sure you scroll down for tonight’s game thread, as well as news about the Chad Gaudin [...]

  126. J Squared says:

Francona only went on the field cause he knows his team would get an ass kickin if they tried to fight, come on. Girardi Vs. 25.

  127. Now stepping up to the plate, the skinny and white answer to Horace Grant.

  128. Mike Pop says:

    K this bum!

  129. e mills says:

that was dumb on Melancon’s part. Beckett’s obviously hitting someone tomorrow

  130. ShuutoHeat says:

    LOL, Dennis the menace

  131. J Squared says:

Reddick… Major League Dink. Nope, i’ve never used that word before.

  132. Salty Buggah says:

Reddick looks like True Boston material

  133. Drew says:

    Love the curve

  134. Hova says:

Beckett will be head hunting tomorrow. Dear Derek Jeter, please keep your wrists out of the box. Last thing we need is to the lose the captain to a pitch out of retaliation.

  135. handtius says:

Don’t think the plunk was on purpose.

  136. Zack says:

    Cano is good at defense

  137. LiveFromNewYork says:

    Tex is money.

  138. J Squared says:

at Second Base, Gold Glover, Robinson Cano.

  139. Jersey says:

    aaaand another LOB for Papi

  140. Tony says:

    Jeterian play from Robbie.

  141. nyrfan says:

god tex is alwayys on his a game…what a great pick up, where this team would be without him

  142. putt says:

    That play was awesomely embarrassing.

  143. Mike Pop says:

  144. Nigel Bangs says:

My manager’s wife is sitting in Johnny Damon’s suite with his wife, michelle. that is totally awesome.

  145. Can every week the Yankees play be Shark Week?

  146. nyrfan says:

gaudin to start in the pen according to kepner

  147. Jordan says:

  148. Jose says:

An offensive orgy? It cannot be unheard!!!

  149. J Squared says:

An Offensive Orgy? Can you say that on My9?

  150. Drew says:

Offensive Orgy? did I just hear that?

  151. ShuutoHeat says:

Come on, work the count on Saito tire him a bit as well.

  152. Accent Shallow says:

From watching him this year, I can’t see how Saito was Shiva with the Dodgers.

Has the stuff gotten that much worse with the elbow injury?

  153. Salty Buggah says:

So do we see Claggett today? I hope so

  154. Faiaz says:

The funnier part about Michael’s comment was Ken’s giggle right after.

  155. Souter Fell says:

alright, 3 little outs. let’s make it official

  156. Faiaz says:

Doesn’t the two guys from the Verizon FIOS commercial look exactly like Pedroia and Youkilis?

  157. Jordan says:

It is pretty great how Traber’s performance tonight was better than Smoltz’s

  158. handtius says:

I’m starting to hate these NYvsB games. 4 fucking hours. I like baseball, but damn, I’m tired.

  159. nyrfan says:

    HINSKE the defensive replacement. hahaha

  160. Souter Fell says:

wow, that guy with the glove looks like a real d-bag

  161. handtius says:

    Claaaaaaag-it. …….with a 4 pitch walk.

  162. JackC says:

A small point, but: can SOMEONE tell Michael Kaye that the Dodgers do, in fact, have names on the back of their unis? FOr some bizarre confluence of reasons, it’s like the third time I’ve heard him say that in a couple of weeks. And, of course, he’s not only wrong, but gratingly smug in his wrongness

  163. RollingWave says:

Clagrett can’t possibly raise his ERA … right?

  164. Dela G says:

uh oh, claggett starts walking peeps

  165. Accent Shallow says:

    Another walk. Christ.

  166. Salty Buggah says:

    lower that 43.50 ERA Claggett

  167. J-Hair with the mad hopz!

  168. Steve H says:

Great. We finally get a bad call to go our way, and it’s in a 9 run game.

  169. Salty Buggah says:

should be at least 14 runs if not for a base-running error

  170. Dela G says:

    my god man

    quit walkin people

  171. Souter Fell says:

who else we got waitin in the wings?

  172. Salty Buggah says:

    Nick Green DP here

  173. yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

So do the yanks keep Gaudin for this year and next ?

  174. handtius says:

We’re trying to tire out the sox hitters by walking all of them.

  175. whozat says:

Just went to look at the pitchfx data for Joba and Smoltz, and it was interesting. The ump was consistent, yes, but he took away a six inch box on the outside corner to righties/inside corner to lefties. So, unless the ball was several inches above the knee and several inches IN from the edge of the plate, it was a ball.

That’s just impossible. It means the slider is basically useless unless you’re trying to backdoor it. No one has to swing at anything heading towards that half of the plate unless it’s thigh high.

  176. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

When Claggett strikes you out, you know you suck.

  177. LiveFromNewYork says:

    Grit come back!!!!

  178. Zack says:

    ERA goes back up

  179. Jordan says:

Should have hit him, just to see the aftermath.

  180. LiveFromNewYork says:

Could we please end this game????

  181. J Squared says:

uhh… i’ll take someone else now, thanks.

  182. Salty Buggah says:

DAMN! Hurting our run differential and helping theirs!!!!

  183. Dela G says:

get the next guy out please

  184. Jordan says:

Mo!? Let’s see how desperate Girardi really is.

  185. Zack says:

i love the gritty stat padding players they have

  186. Russell NY says:

    Wow, goodbye claggett

  187. J Squared says:

    Igawa? Thanks.

  188. handtius says:

    4 hrs and 1 min.

  189. Salty Buggah says:

    Boston stat padders?

Seriously, what would you do if we blew a 9 run lead with 2 outs in the 9th?

  190. Jake H says:

This is why you don’t walk guys.

    • Zack says:

thats why people are wrong when they call for young unproven rookies to go in 3-4 run games because “its not a close game”

  191. Jordan says:

Ballgame! Ramiro Pena, get your shoes on and come on down!

  192. Souter Fell says:

Finally against the BoSox and to put us 3 1/2 games in first, THEEEEEEEEEEEE Yankees Win!

  193. LiveFromNewYork says:

I came in late and am sick of Michael Kay. How did you do it for 4 hours?

  194. Accent Shallow says:

Please tell me Girardi isn’t warming Hughes/Aceves/Mo.

  195. Drew says:

    1-8, I’ll take it.

  196. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    Victor Martinez. BUST

  197. Salty Buggah says:

    0-8 no mo BITCHES!!!!

  198. handtius says:

    it’s over…goog god.

  199. Jersey says:

Jesus Christ. And we have to do this three more times this weekend.

  200. dkidd says:

    no “yay claggett! yay win!”?

  201. Drew says:

Eduardo Perez, expert coverage: “He(Posada) means big to the Yankees.”

He means big? wtf? English please Eduardo.

  202. Jake H says:

The Got Rings shirt I wore tonight will be worn tomorrow night for good luck.

  203. Zack says:

“Smoltz 92 pitches tonight, 2 swing and misses” -Olney

  204. Yankee1010 says:

    Anybody see this from Kepner:

SIZING UP A PROSPECT Miguel Angel Sano, a top shortstop prospect in the Dominican Republic, has played in games at the Yankees’ Dominican academy the last two days.

The Yankees are among several teams interested in signing Sano, who could command more than $3 million and has already undergone DNA and bone-scan testing by Major League Baseball to prove his identity and age.

  205. Jake H says:

Yanks dominate the Sox and MLB network talks about how Pedroia plays big. Pathetic.

  206. Pasqua says:

Just to let it be known: The angle that MLB Network is taking on the game is that Dustin Pedroia made a great, heads-up play to get Posada thrown-out at home in the 2nd inning.

That’s what they’re going with. Pedroia. Relay throw. 2nd inning.

    Holy shit.

    • Zack says:

NESN post game mentioned the new stadium about 10 times in the first 3 minutes

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

Heh ESPN’s game recap was about Muhammad Ali…and that’s it. No game recap whatsoever.

    • putt says:

as a life long middle-infielder, that play was NOT a headsup play. he took a shot, knowing that nobody else would advance on the play and he had a .0003 chance to get him, so what the hell? why not?

I’ve made that throw a hundred times and it’s worked maybe once or twice (which I guess defies my previously stated odds). Point being, it’s just a shot in the dark that he took, there was nothing cagey or otherwordly about it.

get of this guy’s dick, he’s only 5-6, he can’t be packing enough for ESPN and MLBN

      • Zack says:

considering Cano and Swisher were standing on second and first respectively, no one was moving up a base

        • Zack says:

it was a heads up play, he knew Posada was trying to score from second. it was limited risk and high reward play

          • putt says:

we agree on those points, I think we’re just off on our definitions of “headsup.” or maybe it’s just my bitter hatred of all things red sox that would rather call it a bonehead play on Jorge’s part as opposed to a genius play on Pedroia’s.

            • Zack says:

I agree. It shouldnt be the main highlight of the game, and it was more Jorge’s fault for shutting down a gear half way home

  207. BklynJT says:

Just saw the highlights of the game, and I believe the first 3 homeruns were cheapies that would not of been out at the old stadium.

  208. Zack says:

How the hell was Prince Fielder only fined? That dude needs anger management

  209. Souter Fell says:

so if gaudin aint going monday, who is? not Mitre (please, please, please if have tickets)

    • Dela G says:

mitre will go for sure. Gaudin pitched a couple of days ago. He needs rest

    • BklynJT says:

Sucks for you, but its not like Gaudin would be any better. Fly ball pitcher in new yankee stadium, no thanks. Anyway, we’ll still win. Poot it in da books.

  210. Mark H says:

Gaudin pitched yesterday, same as Mitre so they both line up for Monday, maybe Mitre starts, and Gaudin follows him?

  211. I have spent a lot of time researching verizon internet through fios and the cable tv and satellite company options available. Would anyone out there feel that cable could actually be better than Verizon Fios internet? Is just seems that there is no way to compare between the available options based on the pure speed of the network and setop box funtionality for managing your viewing.
