A player’s view of free agency

By Mike Axisa

In a piece for the Times, former big league outfielder Doug Glanville writes about the experience of free agency from a player’s point of view. Do you go for the money? consider your family’s wants? In reality, it’s a mix of both. It’s a great and interesting read, so check it out.

Heh. That 1999 season of Glanville’s was just so above anything else he ever did.

Steve H says:

.357 babip that year, career .303. That explains it.

Doug Glanville is awesome. too bad he wasn’t a better player.

Doug says:

Does it make me a horrible person if the first thing I thought was “Doug Glanville’s black?”

He’s a reverse Khalil Greene.

Steve H says:

He can be on the Reggie Cleveland All-Stars.

Grammar Police says:

No. What makes you a horrible person is posting the same thing twice. Well, that and the fact that you first thought he was black.

With all due respect to Doug Glanville, he was never a high profile big money free agent like Carlos Beltran, CC Sabathia, Curt Schilling, etc. THOSE are the cases where i really want to know what makes a difference in deciding what team to sign with.

Chaz says:

Doug Glanville is awesome. He graduated from my high school and my family was friends with his dad and we got him to talk to our local Cub Scouts. Very smart and nice guy.
