The case for CC Sabathia as SI’s Sportsman of the Year
ByEvery December, Sports Illustrated announces its Sportsman of the Year. Among the nominees this year is New York’s own Carsten Charles Sabathia, a good choice for the award for many reasons. Ben Reiter takes up CC’s case, writing about why our favorite big man should be the choice. It’s a great read on a great guy, both on and off the field. Takeaway quote on Reiter’s advocacy of Sabathia: “But Sabathia is also my Sportsman of the Year because he showed us, in this money-fueled era of pro sports, that cash doesn’t always change athletes, or corrupt them, and that the idea of a ‘contract year’ can sometimes represent nothing more than a matter of timing.” We’ll find out soon that Sabathia didn’t win the Cy Young, but I think he’d be happy to take home SI’s Sportsman of the Year.

A SI award?
Get ready Mr Favre
I’d like to nominate Kevin Youkilis.
Larry Johnson for Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year.
Larry Johnson for PFLAG Humanitarian of the Year.
How about Selena Roberts for Sportswoman of the Year?
Her pictures on the back page get funnier every week.
SI’s Sportsman of the Year? That’s easy. David Ortiz. His valiant battle for truth, justice and the American way, has inspired us all. His never ending quest to find the truth has changed the lives of tens of people.
He is truly, truly, a super Man.
I still crack up with Manny’s explanation when everything was going down that time.
“It’s not really that big of a deal.”
Like it was some Jedi mind trick. He was literally left alone and never bothered again about it.
You gotta admit, Manny does look a little like Kit Fisto.

That change fits so perfectly.
Big Papi stabbed a guy?
…and a girl?
He had to change his name for some reason.
(I meant the search for truth and justice, though you probably knew that)
Manny Pacquiao will easily win this.
