Mike do u think the Yanks Give Jorge Vazquez a chance in spring training and become are DH ?. He reminds me of Erubiel Durazo.

  2. Evil Empire says:

Is it fair to say the DWL is the highest level of competition Ivan Nova has faced thus far in his career?

    • whozat says:

He had 12 starts in AAA last season…Is the dominican league better competition than the minors? I know there are legit ballplayers there, but there are also dudes who’ve never seen a big league ball field and never will.

    • Mike Axisa says:

Oh hell no. Triple-A is way better. Just look at the other Yanks playing in the league (Almonte, Nunez).

    • JMK THE OVERSHARE's Milton Bradley Fat Park Factor says:

Yeah, there are some good quality baseball players are the DWL. I don’t think it’s AAA quality and he’s definitely played there for at least ten starts.

Look at the leaders of the DWL pitching and hitting. It’s chock full of perennial 34-year old nobodies.

I’d say AAA is better top to bottom.

      • JMK THE OVERSHARE's Milton Bradley Fat Park Factor says:

Redundant. When I started typing Mike and whozat’s comments weren’t there. But it seems they said basically the same thing.

  3. Manimal says:

Nova, Miranda and Vasquez are ready for the show. They just need an opening

    • whozat says:

Nope. Miranda might be, as a platoon DH, but how valuable is that? Nova needs to show he can get AAA hitters out first, and Vasquez…he was doing great in AA, but…let’s see him do it against good competition first.

  4. Romulo Sanchez: 22 G, 26.2 IP, 19 H, 15 R, 12 ER, 16 BB, 36 K – almost guaranteed to see him at some point next year … Fat Sanchezes unite!

Remember when the Fat Boys broke up? Romulo and Humberto both pitching in the Bronx next year would be like the exact opposite of that.

  5. JMK THE OVERSHARE's Milton Bradley Fat Park Factor says:

Speaking of Vasquez, Mike, where do you see him finishing the season? AAA, MLB? Does he have the ability to be a real impact player for the Yankees?

  6. Jeff Levy says:

Ramiro Pena is looking good with that average. If he can hit well like that he should be the Yankees primary supersub. We know he has speed, if he can learn to pay the OF more he will be really valuable. Any idea what his OBP is in the Mexican league?

  7. YANKS1FAN says:

Jorge ‘Chato’ Vazquez will get an invite to ST. He has a shot at making the club out of camp. He could be a DH/bench player who can give a few positions a day off. That is why they had him in Instructs working on catching which was his first position. He might not be great, but is playable at first with 220 pro games, and 135 games at third, and can play the corner OF. He is just a masher, period. AA,AAA,Winter Ball, or the Bigs. He will mash no matter where he is. Over the last couple of years he was Mexico’s Matsui. He was on Gatorade ads….his nickname was ‘El Destructor’. He is a better hitter than Miranda. Miranda in the ML is projected at .280/18/80. Not bad, but Chato will be .300/30/100. And he has been working on LH pitching and this winter he has only been in 24 games but he is at .280/.379/.840/1.219 with 4hr and 2 doubles in 24ab. He has played 24 games and is 6th in HR in the Mex lg and climbing. The rest of the leaders are at 50+ games. And the last 4 of 5 Hr were against pitchers with ML exp. He will get his chance, if not in NY, somewhere. In Trenton he was selected to EL All-Star team while placing 3rd in the league in avg (.332), 5th in HR (13), 7th in RBI (55) and 1st in SLG (.584) while only playing in 56 out of the leagues 91g at the break
