Game 43: Top pitching prospects, matured
ByIn 2007, Baseball America ranked Phil Hughes the No. 4 prospect in baseball. He wasn’t the only New York prospect to make the list. Mike Pelfrey, his opponent tonight, was ranked No. 20. Both had ups and downs during the early years of their careers, but they have both become important parts of their teams’ pitching staffs. Tonight does not necessarily represent a test of any sort for either pitcher, but it’s certainly event when two touted young pitchers face each other.
Pelfrey broke out two years ago, when he threw 200.2 innings for the 2008 Mets. After a bit of a setback in 2009, including an increase in his home run and walk rates, Pelfrey has come on strong this year. He currently has a 3.02 ERA, and has thrown only one poor start, a six-run affair against Philly that came after he had allowed two earned runs in all of April. He’s struck out a few more batters than he has in the past, which likely has something to do with his splitter. He’s also a ground ball guy.
Phil Hughes is coming off his worst start of the season. He lasted only five innings against the Red Sox and allowed five runs, though, as I noted after the game, he seemed just a little off. Mike also followed up with a look at how Hughes attacked the Red Sox hitters. Even with the poor performance his ERA still sits at just 2.25. This is his first start on the road during interleague play.
During his pregame media session Joe Girardi mostly answered questions about Mariano Rivera. He said what he’s been saying for the past few days, the it’s about location for Mo, and he’s been catching a bit too much of the plate. “He gets into long counts at times,” Girardi added. He said that if the velocity were down that it would be a concern, but it is not. In fact, he added, Mo hit 94 on the gun at points this year. Baseball Info Solutions has him at right around the level he was last year, as does PitchFX. Girardi added that the flank issue that caused Mo to miss a few games earlier is completely gone.
The only other concern, he said, is if Mo can’t go back to back days. That might get tested tonight if the Yanks take a slim lead into the bottom of the ninth.
The other main topic was interleague play. He talked about the injury potential for pitchers, noting Brad Penny’s trip to the DL following his grand slam last night. That comes for an NL pitcher. It’s even tougher for AL pitchers, obviously, because they don’t regularly take BP. “We’re not going to do a simulated game,” Girardi said, “because you’re afraid that they’re going to get hurt.” It really is a tough situation for AL pitchers, and the Yanks know that first hand.
Finally, an update on Javy Vazquez. His index finger is still swollen, but better than yesterday. They won’t know anything until he throws his bullpen session, which should come on Monday. The main thing, Girardi said, is that he can grip the ball. From there everything should be fine.
Lineup:
1. Derek Jeter, SS
2. Brett Gardner, CF
3. Mark Teixeira, 1B
4. Alex Rodriguez, 3B
5. Robinson Cano, 2B
6. Nick Swisher, RF
7. Francisco Cervelli, C
8. Randy Winn, LF
9. Phil Hughes, P

Can you imagine what the 2009 Yanks would look like if Wang hadn’t injured his foot and been effective? That team could have been like the 98 Yankees.
i was thinking the same thing…
same thing here as well
Or if Hughes/IPK didn’t screw up in the beginning.
Or if Joba had been starting the whole season.
Or if Jorge and Matsui and A-Rod all didn’t get injured.
Or if Darrell Rasner and Sidney Ponson hadn’t started a combined 30 games.
Oh wow. Mega fail. I saw “2008″ instead of “2009.” I suck.
Still fits for 2008 as well. We could/would have made the playoffs had those things not happened.
And if Cano didn’t slump. Or if Jeter had a typical Jeter season.
I have a question. I’m here in Massachusetts(yuck) for the weekend and the hotel I’m in has ESPN, FOX, NESN and ESPN2 available. Will I be able to watch the Yankee game on FOX? Or will the Sox vs Phillies be on Fox?
I think you get the Sox game
I live in RI and I think we are f’d. I am pretty upset about it.
Gotta beat the Mets again baby! LET’S GO YANKEES!
Yes, Kevin. David Wright is a good player. That’s why he’s got a .368 OBP and a .490 SLG and a .372 wOBA.
man i live in houston and have to watch the cubs/rangers.
i can’t believe i’m excited about listening to john sterling
I loathe John Sterling, but would take him 10 times before one time of Jotim McBuckaver.
true dat
Ugh, why couldn’t these morons be in Philadelphia?
It’s the pregame and I want to mute my TV already.
I already did.
Tonight will be Hughes’ first PA! Woo!
Let’s pray that the baseball gods protect him.
/wang’d
At least Fox attempts a scouting report. Seesh YES.
And… Jeter has an awful at bat.
And… Gardner has an awful at bat.
Alright, come on Tex…you gotta start breaking out.
What do you mean the Yankees haven’t been resourceful last year? They lost their number 2 starters, starting right fielder and starting center fielding due to lack of production. They also had to revamp the entire bullpen not named Mo. Edwar was gone, Veras was gone, Bruney and Marte were hurt.
Anyone else feel like Rodriguez is still feeling his way power wise at times? I’m sure it’s just selective memory, but I feel like he’s not crushing pitches that he absolutely demolished last year.
good job al
AROD setting the table for Robbie.
Come on Ribbie.
This ballpark sucks. But at least it’s better than Fenway.
Damn it, on the first pitch.
Well struck by Cano, but he just got under it a bit.
on gameday, the out was made on the warning track. Did Cano hit it hard or was it a weak out?
Hit it well, it just hung up a bit.
Hit hard, but Robbie doesn’t have HR power to LF
but Citi Field is huge, isn’t it?
Despite a .299 OBP, Barajas has a 127 OPS+.
OPS+ overvalues SLG. But that is impressive.
He’s also got a .364 wOBA.
Damn. I didn’t realize his ISO was .303
Yeah, he hasn’t hit often, but when he has, it’s been a homer.
Hahaha Fuck you Sabmetrics!!!
/francoeur’d
Wow. The slugging really makes up for the terrible OBP. (.571)
brilliant play by cano
Bay was probably robbed of two home runs yesterday but this ballpark. He’s got power.
Make Ike Davis your bitch Phil!
Let’s go Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuughes.
Come on Hughes.
Changeup made no damn difference.
I’m forced to watch it with the sound out because there are other people here. I want to just reach out and punch someone every time McCarver has that dry heaving laugh.
/comment fail
I meant with the sound on…
Phil Hughes has thrown 12 changeups in 2010.
mmm…revisionist history.
Tasty, isn’t it?
No Joe buck, Joba is fucking up, because he’s fucking up period.
FINISH HIM!
Fatality!!!!
C’mon punch him out.
Hughes’ command doesn’t look great today.
aight phil, you got to gather yourself here
Come on Hughes, Ya betta than that.
I was thinking Hughes should’ve gone to the curve there.
Damn, thought he was an automatic out!
Lol everybody’s excited about a RBI single.
not finishing off hitters, again..
All this with 2 outs and nobody on base.
man phil is strugglin here
at least they got the 3rd out to limit the damage
Oh you’ve got to be fuckin’ kidding me.
…broken bat bullshit blooper.
Mehish inning for Hughes.
I think Hughes is a little too proud of his cutter
/flaherty’d
Hughes only seems to be able to command the FB on the inside corner to a righty/outside to a lefty. Everything else looks up or middle.
Not generating swings and misses with the 4-seamer as he did earlier in the season.
How many non-fastball pitches did he throw that inning? Not that I’m knocking the fastball, it’s an awesome pitch, but since that’s pretty much all he’s throwing, it’s a bit of a giveaway what he’s going to throw next.
I saw the curve several times, and he got beat on the cutter in Wright’s AB.
Well he doesn’t really throw the change despite McCarver’s ramblings and he’s not locating the curve.
Per Brooks, 3 curveballs, the rest either fastballs or cutters.
well, I guess it is Phil’s turn to struggle this time out. Every other starter has been struggling since the night game in Boston.
He’s already had his struggle game.. I’d like the non-struggles back please.
Hope Hughes irons it out the next bottom half.
Wright had no chance on Hughes’ 4 seamer in that at bat.
But he again decides to speed up his bat with the cutter.
What’s going to be big going forward for Phil is if he can adjust once the hitters adjust to the cutter.
Going to have to command the curve then or start using the change effectively.
I think he can do the former, but I’m not sure about the latter.
LOL look at Fielder go.
He is HUGE. Anyone who gives him a long-term deal is going to really, really regret it.
Come on, guys…at least clear the pitcher’s spot this inning!
this is too easy for pelfrey… :/
Tim McCarver is incapable of doing a Yankee game without bringing up 2004. He just can’t do it.
Did Mccarver just say Pagan’s RBI double should have drove in 2 runs if not for Wright’s base running screw up?
Yes he did. Apparently, reaching 3B counts as scoring a run in tonight’s game.
ugh. It is Mike Pelfrey. Really?
It’s the second inning. They’re hitting it on the ground, but they’re hitting it well. They’ll come around.
thanks.. I don’t get the game so I just have Sterling/Ms. Seinfeld commenting.
Word.
Everything with John is a “hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh fly ball” or just a grounder. Someone get that dude a thesaurus.
By the way, wasn’t “Cowboy Up” the Sox 2003 refrain? Not 2004?
Stupid analysis is one thing, but re-writing history in front of a national tv audience is just infuriating.
Correct. It was 2003. I believe the Red Sox were all about the “idiots” moniker in ’04.
since this game is blacked out on mlb watching twins/brewers. My god the brewers have horrible pitching.
Yovanni Gallardo (2.89) is the only starter with an ERA under five.
plz get on base, randy
thnk u
Winn burning up some pitches in this AB, good for him!
Nice job clearing the pitcher, Randall.
Wow, I should look it up next time. His real name is Dwight.
Excellent, Randy Winn got on base. Now they can…oh, right, the pitcher. I hate the NL.
Well, at least they don’t give them a free out in the 3rd :-/
Hughes goes long?
Let us see Phil hit!
He looks much bigger at the plate than on the mound
I wonder if that’s because you have other people to compare him to?
Wait til we see CC at the plate
Seen him at the plate before. It hurt my head just thinking how big he was.
4 pitches seen by Hughes. Productive. No sarcasm.
Is that a shot at Jeter?
Nicely done.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen that meme.
Both Winn and Hughes’ ABs are pretty good, exposing the pitcher.
not too bad of an AB by hughes
If Phil gets a hit, does he get to keep the ball as his first ML hit? Or would that be tacky?
Why would it be tacky? Shouldn’t he be allowed to keep a memento of something that, I’m sure, he’d be pretty excited about?
Well let’s see. Position players generally keep their first hit balls, right? Pitchers sometimes keep their first strikeout ball. Nick Swisher kept his first strikeout ball, so therefore Hughes should keep his first hit ball.
I knew learning proofs would help me one day
Wait, really? Tim McCarver doesn’t believe in pitchers hitting?
At least he said something with coherence and intelligent.
Great AB.
well at least pelfrey’s pitch count is at 36 after 2
He made contact, Seems like C.C. is dying to get in some licks against Johan tomorrow
hey, 7 pitch AB, that was nice
First AB since high school – Impressive.
It is hard to understand what Phil and/or Cervelli are seeing in these at bats the past 2 starts that makes them want to go to the cutter.
Last week Ortiz was not even close of Phil’s 4 seamer. This week, same thing with Wright.
It will be interesting to see how much Phil goes to the cutter when the count is in his favor the rest of the game. If he starts to fall in love with it again in big spots, Cervelli really needs to go out to the mound and not defer so much to his choice.
Really, I’d love to see more offspeed pitches. Like I said upthread, I think he’s becoming predictable.
You got that right. That’s something all of the younger pitchers need to work on. See Joba and the 2 strike slider.
This 0-2 count to Barajas would be a good chance to show the curve.
Especially considering his AB last night vs. Javy.
Well, that works. Not gonna complain.
Or he could go with something special and rarely used…like a fastball.
The same goes for this Fracno AB. You know he’ll chase.
how bout my fantasy spot starter, gio gonzalez?
beats matt cain 1-0, throws 8innings, too
got to love it
Huuuuuuuuuughes
Barajas and Frenchy just swing at five consecutive pitches.
crazy
o_0
If taking pitches is so important, why don’t they put it on the scoreboard?
Well, if there’s a time to throw all fastballs, it’s when the 7, 8, 9 spots are up.
beautiful inning
Something sad: Mike Pelfrey has a higher OBP than Jeff Francouer.
Something sad: Mike Pelfrey has a higher OBP than Jeff Francouer.
Repeated for repetition’s sake. Wow.
Rod Effing Barajas is currently the top ranked catcher in fantasy O_O
i’ll stick with my joe mauer in both of my fantasy leagues
Could anybody offer any advice for getting gameday to work. It never initializes. Using firefox with a windows 7 and lastest flash.
Of course.
wowzers!
Jeter has been BABip’s bitch this month.
does Jeter have a date tonight?
oh, sorry, i only have gameday so i didn’t know it was hit that well/hard… just bitching about the first pitch swing.
It was very weakly hit.
oh, then wtf?? (i just noticed that it said he “lined out softly” — should’ve been paying attention)
So, who ends the game taking more pitches per plate appearance, Jeter or Hughes?
Ugly swing Gardy.
Ugliest swing I’ve seen from Gardy this season.
this is mike pelfrey, pound him plz
They’ll get to him next inning. With Al, Cano, and Swish batting, I doubt the Yankees won’t be able to tie.
He actually doesn’t suck.
Gardner takes 5 pitches, Jeter 1.
And there is “can’t hit”Tex… ugh.
He’s on the verge of interstate territory.
One of these days Mark Teixeira will stop sucking.
Yes, and on that day we will rejoice.
and the sea will part and wine will flow from flowers…. when is that day?
I think you’re confused with the day Montero graces us with his presence.
Yes he will….
Will the real May Tex please stand up?
Reyes smug mug ticks me off…
..and his incessant spitting
Did they really ask Manuel about his job precariousness? Wow. That’s just…so unclassy in so many ways.
Agreed. I think if it can be brought up, everyone knows that he’s more or less on thin ice, in which case there’s no need to mention it.
It’s a good thing we’ve got a schedule of relative patsies in the next 3-4 weeks. Otherwise the Rays could open up quite a lead. Karma in terms of injuries is a real bitch.
Yay for Arod’s fielding this year.
Is Hughes’ control off tonight? On Gameday it seems as if his pitches are all over the place, only I can’t tell whether that’s by design or not.
That was a very good curveball, Phil. Remember that. Please.
Just curious since Ive read many articles saying Jeter’s D is bad again this season and just from watching games in general it looks like that too but what do the stats say so far????
Was just going to say that on eye’s evidence it looks like the range is gone to both sides.
Unring the Mink
It’s more positioning and pitchers not executing location. ARod’s been victimized to his right a bunch recently. Playing the hitter not to pull and the pitch drifts inside.
Current values, per Fangraphs:
Double Play Runs: 0.3
Range Runs: -0.2
Error Runs: 1.2
UZR: 1.3
UZR/150: 4.9
I feel shocked, Cotton.
wow
Not surprised, we think he is playing bad D but he is not. He still does make all the routine plays flawlessly though.
Question: are DPruns affected by the Double Play partner? If they are, he’d be getting a pretty significant boost compared to most other players in the league.
I hate when mediocre players like Bay have success against the Yankees.
Bay just kills the Yanks. Has for the last season and a half.
Bay = Not exactly mediocre.
How is Bay a “mediocre” player? He’s probably very overpaid but mediocre? I don’t think so.
He’s a second tier outfielder. If he stayed in Boston he’d probably get a stupid HOF movement since he’s basically Jim Rice.
Fuck that Bay is probably better than Rice offensively. How the hell did this man get in the Hall?
You know, he’s actually a pretty good player.
Changeup? Davis is a lefty.
You know, guys, maybe it’s not just the field. Maybe it’s the fact that, currently, the Mets have two guys that could be big power guys–Wright and Bay. No Beltran (for now?). No Delgado.
The mid-to-late 80′s Mets wouldve dominated playing at Citi Field.
you all hear about the bull fighter who got gored today – horn went under his chin and out his mouth. Gruesome.
The Mets don’t need to move the fences in; they just need to lower the ones in left and left center. If you’re going to have deep fences, make the walls eight feet high like everyone else; there’s no need for them to be 12 feet high when they’re as deep as they are.
Do not walk this guy
man hughes you got to get wright this time
Hughes needs to finish off these batters.
Same crap as the 1st inning, gets 1-2 batters out then a hit to Bay and walk to Davis.
Learn from the last at bat, Phil. Don’t rely on the cutter too much.
No cutter please
A-Rod’s fielding thus far: 4.1 UZR/150 (in 326 innings at third)
zero command from Hughes, that’s unfortunate
not again
ffs it’s like de ja vu here.
Deja vu all over again
Dammit, stupid correction.
Man, Hughes can elevate a pitch.
Deja vu.
yay the out was made!
I wonder if they’ll go all FBs to Wright again in the third AB.
i thought this photo of juan rivera was hilarious
http://cache.gawkerassets.com/.....rivera.jpg
ietp
I’d like to have good Hughes back.
Well, no one expected Hughes to finish the season with an ERA under 2.
We certainly didnt but he’s got to be able to finish hitters off
Thanks for the overhead view Fox. Bastards.
Seemed like a spoilable pitch. A-Rod just guessing?
Kinda like the ump’s punch out move.
ok so the offense can feel free to show up at any time.
Again, Mike freakin Pelfrey.
It’s 3.2 freakin innings.
and they have 1 hit…. 1…. again, just 1
They’ll hit soon enough.
49 runs in the last 8 games. 49 … again, 49
Yeah, but they LOST a lot of those games, so the runs don’t count!
why does it feel less than that?
i guess its the pitching that has ruined my baseball zen the past week
Yeah that.
Pelfrey really worked the corners well till the last pitch.
Didn’t mean for this to next here.
Offense has been slowing down these past couple of games.
wonder if the Yankees realize the more they suck the more we as fans have to listen to McCarver.
Have they even hit a ball out of the infield yet?
in batting practice
swisher does it!
Ummm (Thinks for a second), yes, A-rod. Not including the single to Swisher.
Hey guys, did you know that a lot of analysts and commentators think Robinson Cano could win a batting title?
Really? I thought he was too lackadaisical and didn’t have enough grit or heart to win a batting title.
Why sue stats when we can measure heart? Then obviously Pedroia would win it.
For every inch he’s shorter than the average male it adds up to his heart.
Silly question…no Russo today?
Perhaps they don’t think that he’d fare as well against a guy who has actual MLB-caliber stuff.
But Winn no longer has a major league caliber bat.
this is true
Need Winn’s lefty bat in there versus a sinker-balling righthander whose ball moves away from lefty batters. Smart.
Who does Pelfrey think he is? Beckett?
Well Pelfrey’s better than him (so far) so nope.
Who has to kick the bucket around this place to get another “inning of silence” from these assclowns?
poor defense by pelfrey
attaboy swish
thank you swish.
swisher’s patience is amazing.
patience/ability to keep an AB going by fouling off pitches*
Come on, Frankie. You’ve gotta take pitches after a 10 pitch AB.
Cervelli’s 1 for his last 15. Might be time for a day off, Joe.
In favor of Chad Moeller? That’s tasty.
$200MM doesn’t buy a third catcher.
/Rays Index’d
Ha. Yeah, I lose a little sperm every time I see Moeller in the starting lineup.
looks like frankie is falling back to earth these past 6 or so games
He’s not actually a good hitter.
And to finally put an end to all that silly talk about catchers calling better games and making a huge difference in pitchers’ performances, Frankie has caught every inning of the recent meltdown from the Yankees’ pitching staff. Can’t blame Posada.
No, that was all the fault of the PITCHERS. But once Posada comes back, it’ll be his fault.
Duh!
touche
Watching that commercial, you’d think Dusin Pedroia was David Eckstein part two. He was a second round pick out of a really good baseball school. Overlooked? I think not.
c’mon huuuughes.
Being sad about a 3-run deficit for a offensively slumping team, I am feeling an 8-1 Mets win, as much as it hurts.
We haven’t really slumped much offensively. Aside from last night, the team’s scored quite a few runs. Any reason you think the Mets will score 8?
what is this non-sense. JMK? Where is the link to M&A and the rest of your lengthy handle?
Oh, I logged in this morning to write up the post and forgot to log out afterward.
I’ll do that later.
Don’t you shortchange us!
And we are fixed!
I feel like the 8 runs will come from some conglomerate of maybe a run from Hughes and then the bullpen. And by slumping offensively, I mean they keep on leaving men in RISP.
Keeps the FB down and gets the K. Nice job, Phil.
Wow, great play by Corey Hart.
I actually feel bad for Mets fans. They have to watch Frenchy every day damn.
And the lukewarm bodies of Jose Reyes and until very recently, Jason Bay. At least they don’t have high expectations of Frenchy. They do with Bay, Reyes, Santana and Wright. As they should.
Through the 20 inning game: .381/.451/.714
Since the 20 inning game: .155/.204/.243
good job
it’ll be nice if hughes can do something other than allow 3-4-5 to reach base and score next time through the order :-/
I’d be cool with that.
Frankly, I think we’re going to lose tonight. Oh well.
Dude, it’s like the 5th inning. Give it some time!
I’m certainly not giving up on them or calling a comeback impossible. But I don’t see it.
Good job Winn.
they have 14 outs and are down by three. Come on.
I’m certainly not giving up on them or calling a comeback impossible.
So, my prediction is that they lose. This is really that ludicrous, considering Pelfrey is mowing them down and they’re losing?
The Mets have arsonists in their bullpen.
How many pitches does Pelfrey have?
84 to start the 6th.
So he could go six or seven reasonably.
I know it’s the pitcher, but nothing deflates my spirits more than a bunt.
Every time I turn on the tv, search for the Yankee game and realize it’s a Fox presentation, I develop this odd glaze. It reminds me of the time I took Mr. Nipples to the vet and saw in his eyes that he realized he was getting neutered.
hahaha maine looks so pissed.
As McCarver has emphasized, Jerry Manuel has a plus-plus humor tool.
Yep. I’m not sure he knows what he’s doing, but he’s making an effort and he’s very funny.
Let Jerry stay!
McCarver finds him absolutely delightful.
cmon gardy
ugh
fuck this
ugh.
Mike Pelfrey is not this good, is he?
At first I wanted Gardner 2nd and Swisher 6th, I think I want Swisher back batting 2nd.
Yep. Didn’t take long for Gardner to get exposed up there.
Curtis will be back soon. So do like Frankie says.
Zen Baseball.
It is kind of inexcusable to be shutout by Pelfrey, but then again, same for Takahashi. The Yankees need SOMETHING to jumpstart them this game. A homerun or just some sort of rally. PLEASE I don’t want to hear this from Mets fans for a month.
Pelfrey has been a good pitcher this year and he was quite heralded before his less-than-stellar 2009. He’s not some scrub.
He’s not a scrub, but he’s a groundballer who doesn’t get too many Ks, and has a mediocre walk rate.
Where did that pitch miss?
That was a ball? Really?
man bay owns us
jason bay, mike pelfrey….who is next.
I don’t mind be being beaten by better teams but not mediocre.
The thing that pisses me off is when th yankees get a big lead, other teams come back, but when opposing has a big lead, the Yankees 90% of the time never come back, if castillo scores, the game is over >:(
Hope they prove me wrong
Phil, how about you don’t walk Davis for a third time.
Could really use a DP right now, Phil is cruising except when he hits the middle of the order.
Get a grounder, Phil. Gotta keep it close.
yay got ike!
Okay, good. Now get the last out and cut the rally off. Let’s go, Phil.
So how did someone who will chase a pitch that high walk twice?
Now don’t speed up his bat.
impressive way to get out of that!
Cervelli with da fist pump!!!11!!!111!
Great job by Phil. Must score now.
Big strikeouts there to keep it close. 3-4-5-6? R-U-N-S. Do it, Yanks.
How about some runs? I don’t think much of Pelfrey.
So I assume they’ll just let Phil go until his spot in the order comes up again, right?
Would think so, either way 6th inning should be his final inning I would assume.
Teixeira, anytime you’d like to start hitting would be ok with me.
man tex…
What a terrible AB.
Helluva at-bat by Tex. Brilliant.
anyone know how many times Tex swings rather than just sit and watch pitches.
God good thing his defense is good, because he makes Giambi look like Babe Ruth.
A) That is an absurd indictment of tex’s offensive abilities, given his career performance, and his performance just last year.
B) Go look at fangraphs.com. You can look up all those sorts of splits, if you’re interested in learning and not just complaining.
A) – always responding with career numbers is lame. right now he is horrible at the plate, can’t pick up pitches, swings at everything out of the zone… so ya, he will rebound, I know this. But that doesn’t change that right now, Randy Winn is hitting better.
B) – those splits are fantastic to look at – but like all numbers, they do not tell the whole truth – He has struck out twice against MIKE PELFREY. Plus, he played most of his career in Texas – that is like taking any Rockies hitters numbers seriously.
So while I thank you for thinking that I am clueless to how the game works, you have given nothing that supports that Tex sucks at the plate right now.
Dude, this comment is so full of fail it’s rather ridiculous.
Those 2 at bats with Davis and Wright just make the approach Phil and Cervelli took with those guys the first 2 times they faced him all the more puzzling.
I continue to really dislike Cervelli catching Phil, but there is nothing you can do about it now that Posada is out.
Alex Cora says “you know” a little too much. Just a little nit.
I would answer everything he says with an “I know.”
Hah, that’d be pretty funny. It instantly reminded me of when Vince Young said “at the same time” a lot in one interview after a game.
I think english is his second language, right? He’s from Puerto Rico. I’d love to speak a second language as well as he speaks English.
nit = bit
Has Tex been making out with Jeter? Seems as though he caught his case of the suck.
man this is depressing
cmon bats, plz wake up!
Did Rodriguez really just strike out on an 84 MPH pitch that was up in the zone? Wow.
this fucking offense is like dealing with a teenager.
Changeups up in the zone? Ick.
Did that just hit Cano in the face?
You know, I think so, you know.
/Cora’d
I’ve got it on mute, haha.
Tex, would it kill you to hit an outside pitch the other way, just ONCE???
top 4 are 1-11…1 walk and 5 K’s.
I don’t know whether to ask who kidnapped Pelfrey and replaced him with this guy or who kidnapped the Yankees and replaced them with this offense
Pelfrey’s been a good pitcher this year, dunno why everyone is calling him a scrub… But the Yankees are also just not doing their job at the plate either.
hmm cmon cano
one more guy reaches base, and pelfrey will prolly be done
for the 7th inning of course
Really? I say he starts the 7th, unless they start rallying here.
I’ve had enough Alex Cora. Let’s see the game, please.
I need an explanation as to why they are interviewing Alex Cora.
Couldn’t agree more.
Tex is killing this lineup. You can’t have your 3 hole hitter be this bad for this long.
And it is not even about luck and you can’t even be optimistic that he is coming around.
His at bats are just awful and pitchers continue to pitch him almost the same exact way in every single at bat, yet he is not adjusting at all.
When do you start to consider moving Teix in the lineup until he breaks out of his deeeeeep slump?
Agreed. How long until you consider dropping him in the order?
Two out rally time.
good job cano
This has to be Pelfrey’s last inning, no? He’s over 100 pitches.
let’s hope.
It’s Jerry Manuel. He could pitch 150+ and I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised.
You know, VERY coincidental that Pelfrey is good and the offense is bad on the same day. Not suggesting anything, but I find this very, very interesting…
/Rose’d
SWISH
swish! nice!
Fuck. Cano didn’t score.
He did. Swish didn’t.
This was posted before Frankie’s hit.
Well then, carry on.
Way to be, Swish.
I really wish the cameras had switched to a different view so I didn’t have to tell if it was fair/foul by the fans’ reactions. Awesome job, Fox.
Now now, they needed that camera to interview Alex Cora. Because utility infielders are freaking fascinating.
Haha, IETC.
PLEASE CERVELLI!
andd now cervelli gets to come up. get well grandy!
cmon cerv
cmon….
Luckily for Pelfrey, he now gets Cervelli, and Winn if Cervelli reaches.
/I miss the circular lineup
bottom six have 4 of the 5 hits and zero K’s – and that includes the pitcher.
thank you jesus!!
woohoo
<3 bullshit hit <3
WHEW, we needed that.
I’ll take that. Of course, Winn’s up.
hahah dont care how its scored, a run is a run
You got this Winn!
ugh
man that sucked
Well, at least they got one.
that killed it.
Granderson will be back soon.
Indeed. Zen baseball.
Winn always seems to come up in huge spots late in games while the team is trailing and there are 2 outs. Not good.
Eh, he’s first of the gang to be DFAed.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he lasted up until the trade deadline.
Just like you navigate an NL lineup to get to the pitcher, in this lineup you navigate to get to Winn. Bad. And, in this stretch of games, the Yankees have allowed the opposing pitcher to do just that.
Take a
strikehike Winn…hahah never seen that pepsi commercial before
Can anyone find the interview with Vince Young where he said “at the same time” numerous times? I can’t seem to find it on the interwebs. I keep getting some bullshit interviews.
Do you go with Miranda there? I think I would have.
I don’t know, Miranda can’t play LF, so you have to burn two players there.
Neither can Winn.
Yeah, but he’s a lot less likely to make an out than Winn. Russo and Peña can play the outfield. Maybe they would have made that play Winn botched. Maybe. But, that’s besides the fact.
We may need Miranda’s pinch-hit at bat later on, no need to burn it there when the pitcher’s spot is coming up at least twice more in this game.
Yeah, but the situation called for it. They may not get another situation like that.
Big Pelf = not a lefty.
But Miranda is, so . . .
This.
man, give up pagan
Have we seen any changes from Hughes today? I missed the first four innings or so.
wow randy winn
good fucking god
WTF
WTF??!!!!??!
Thames sucks in LF. Wait, what……
Damon would’ve had that catch!
Winn isn’t hitting, Winn isn’t fielding. He. Is. Useless.
Well, that won’t help people like Winn…..
HOLY SHIT, what a play!
So that wasn’t a legit double by Pagan, I gather?
Not even in Pagan’s household.
One of you guys should do a post tomorrow on Hughes putting away hitters.
I don’t have the splits in front of me, but even beyond tonight he seems to be struggling to put guys away when he gets in a pitcher’s count.
Well, if you don’t throw any secondary pitches consistently for strikes (especially when you’ve over-used the cutter), you don’t fool too many batters.
Hey look! Its Logan in the BP!
LOL
Is he really going to walk Jeff Francoeur on four pitches?
Hughes looks gassed.
Not wanting to be upstaged by Winn’s stellar play, Logan wants to get right into this game.
Enough Randy Winn. Put Chan Ho Park in left field. Yea, that’s what I said.
I’d rather Winn pitch than Park. Ew.
I thought Mejia had been sent down to be stretched out?
Yeah, me too.
What a fucking tease there Cervelli. Ugh.
No comments on that Tex gem?
That was a good play. This thread is only for bad play comments.
Comments about good plays, since they are so rare and not part of the normal Yankees M.O., can be entered in the ‘Off-Topic Thread’.
Thanks, Jeff.
Wow, Francoeur sucks.
Love the fist pump and point by Cerve.
Where’s the changeup? He can’t put these guys away the 2nd/3rd time through the order
There is no changeup.
http://i.cdn.turner.com/sivaul....._large.jpg
^Good for a laugh now.
LOL, thanks, needed that.
Hah, that is gold. Remember when he was the next big thing? Good times.
Damn, way to remind me of how terrible Jake Delhomme was, and of the Superbowl loss to New England.
Francoeur is trash
What is Cervelli going to be like in 2013? I hope ably backing up Montero or Romine.
Give me Carl Crawford in LF please!
Double my ass!
Give me Gardner in left, Grandy in center and Cliff Lee in the rotation.
I want no part of Cliff Lee, but I realize that puts me in the minority.
I’m with you on that one. Of course I also don’t really want Crawford either. So, that puts me in an even smaller minority.
115 pitches and only 29 balls?
Wow.
Thanks a lot Mr. Fucking Obvious McCarver for pointing out the fact that the HP UMP have padding under all the clothes.
Damnit
This is what happens when you don’t throw a curveball, Phil. Jesus Christ.
He had no curveball today.
Can’t say this downturn is completely unexpected, he was doing fucking insane. Not that he was total garbage tonight, but you know what I mean.
It’s Alex Cora. No need to throw a curveball.
Even Alex Cora can catch up to a fastball if he’s seen it for an entire at bat.
Phil left that one right over the plate and all Cora could do was ground it weakly to the right side. Just found a hole, it happens.
What a shame.
damn u cora
eff u randy winn
Thanks Winn
Really, a 2-strike hit to Cora??
Wasn’t hard hit. Just found a hole. That will happen. They were probably better of pulling him and bringing in someone fresh.
Too bad he couldn’t put Cora away. Just ran out of gas. All things considered a solid start by Phil. Still battling with command, but finding a way to fight through it.
I wish Hughes was able to put guys away today.
I agree with whatever expletive Hughes just barked into his glove. Cora is dogshit.
they were towards winn
good job by hughes. screw you winn.
Out of all their terrible players, Alex “Ya know” Cora, gets the run in.
So, how many pitchers that have been developed under Ryan’s pitch-count-less system have actually hit the majors, hmm? I’m gonna go with 0. There just hasn’t been enough time for anyone that’s begun under his watch to show up in the bigs.
My cousin’s boyfriend asked me about this last week and I told him that we’d have to wait at least 3-4 years to see how his system works out.
I’d think more, just to see the long-term injury effect.
well hopefully better luck tomm against santana
game is pretty much over now
Yeah this team never comes back. And the Mets never blow leads.
Yeah, cause the Mets pen is unstoppable…
Mmmmmm no. Pelfrey is out of the game. still have 7th and 8th innings + KRod to deal with.
Well i hope CC has a good day tomorrow, because the Yanks aren’t winning today, and they wont touch Santana tomorrow batting like this, I WISH THIS TEAM CAN PROVE ME WRONG, BUT THIS IS REALLY FUSTRATING >xO
How the hell is Dice K pitching a no hitter thru 7 against the Phils?
gyro ball
great there will be nothing else on sportscenter except ESPN personalities lining up for dice k.
Jason Varitek?
he is catching actually.
Holy shit!
I sure am glad Russo got the start in left the day after he had a big night….oh wait….
Come on Park, get Castillo!
Holy crap, Dice-K has a No-Hitter thru 7 innings in Philly.
Por fin!
I HATE THE RAYS AND RED SOX, PHILLIES SUCK TOO
I DON’T KNOW WHAT WE’RE YELLING ABOUT.
IT’S ANCHORMAN, NOT ANCHORLADY….AND THAT IS A SCIENTIFIC FACT!!!!
WHY ARE WE YELLING?!?!?!
Cashman should have hired Towers a little earlier in the off-season. Could have used a better cross-checker than Billy Eppler.
And Eppler is a bad cross checker . . . why? How do you know?
This isn’t snark, I really want to know.
Billy Eppler is the Director of Pro Scouting. He’s the go-to guy on personnel decisions at the major league level.
Ok, I know that. How do you know he’s bad at his job? Or is this “Eppler is ok, but Towers is better”?
With the way things are going for Yanks lately, that Winn misplay will be the difference in the game.
Jeter, keep the ball rolling….and not to the SS.
BTW, what was with the inning-long interview of Alex Cora? And where’s the equal time for Chad Moeller?
Russo trying to solidify a spot on the Yankees as more than just a temporary injury call-up.
A comeback is brewing
Can they just keep Russo and dump Winn please?
Fun fact: Brett Gardner has hit a HR in CitiField
I remember that, it was against the Mets.
/Dumb and dumber
Dice K pitching a no hitter, Fat Papi diving for a ground ball… Philly you are doomed.
Please prove me wrong Yankees
No Ollie?
j/k
Shit… I would love to see Tex make a fool of me….hope the odd are in his favor.
Tex, this would be a wonderful time to remember that you’re actually an excellent hitter.
I know a Tex message from Mark is too much to ask for but COME ON TEX GET A HIT!!!
wow tex
Well, that was unsurprising. Sheesh.
WTF is Tex swinging at? That ball wasn’t even close.
This is becoming hilarious with Tex.
well done Tex. Well done.
May Teix was nice. ‘Im still waiting for Lefty Teix though.
Wow, runners on second and third with one out is their kryptonite.
2008 again
LETS GO A-ROD!!! Tex is as bad as it gets, and Red Sox fans were down on Ortiz, at least Tex plays good D
losing to the mets is like being swept by KC.
So who’s pitch teh eight!? for the Mets? Mejia if he gets out of this? Perez? K-Rod for the two out save?
Then again, the Yankees’ lineup post-Swisher is pretty subpar.
sub par – too kind
How bad would it B if Matsuzaka gets a no-hitter, we wont here enough of this, plus Varitek is catching
Just lost the no hitter
no hitter gone
Literally the worst breaking ball I’ve ever seen.
Juan Castro just ended Dice-K’s no-no with two outs in the eighth. Good.
Good job Castro
Fuck. That was their best chance. Goddammit.
This game sucks balls.
wow
That sucked.
Apparently A-Jax just got hit in the face with a fastball.
Ouch. Hope he is ok.
Game.
Meja just ended the Yankees chances to win… what is their percentage now, anyone know.
5% percent the Yankees win, god i hate Bay ever since he was in Boston
Thank you kindly. Couldn’t find the percentages…
And hated Bay when he was with Pittsburgh. Thankfully the Yankees didn’t get him.
I can’t wait for the real A-rod and Tex to come back
I think A-Rod’s been pretty damn good. Tex, on the other hand…
i stand corrected on A-rod. Im just frustrated
I really hate the Yankees these last 2 weeks, I know they’re in a slump, but this is rediculous
per mike: 49 runs in the past 8 games…
so what… split with Boston, lost 2 to the rays, so far split with the Mets, lost 3 or 4 to Detroit, blew the sweep to the Twins…
And they still have the second best record in the league. Amazing.
DOOOOOMED!!!!!!!!
Also, the Rays, the bestest team ever in the history of ever, split with the Royals and blew a sweep of the Astros. It’s called baseball.
Thats not bad, are you on crack
All those posters that destroyed that person (dkidd?) last night getting on Tex are beginning to look rather silly now.
And they are going to continue to be.
Those 2 great games in May that Tex had are only going to mask his terrible overall performance in this month for so long.
um apparently you don’t understand the rules of this blog. career numbers always are the answer, so is small sample, it is a long season, and most important, if you complain about Tex, you are whining.
The most ironic part is that people were citing statistical “evidence” and inferring that the statistics do not lie.
But it was just a complete misuse of statistics.
Dude you’re an asshole. Sorry, you’re going to lambast me for this, but it kind of had to be said.
so ZZ is an asshole for posting insightful comments that you disagree with? your comment indicates that you have been so thoroughly dominated by his analysis you have no reply other than to call him an asshole. basically, you’re worthless at this point.
You know why you’re worthless? You thought I was responding to ZZ. Also, your logic is totally ridiculous. Because I call someone an asshole in no way implies I was sominated by an analysis. It merely means I think that person did something asinine, and thus worthy of the “title”.
Ehh. I’m not the least bit worried about Tex. Frustrated? Yes. But he’ll get on track.
His name was dygg. It’s ok though, he’s a jerk most of the time anyway.
jason bay 4-4…. Pelfrey – cy young.
good grief
scutaro the midget
Thank you Juan Castro of the Phillies! If Dice-BB threw a no-hitter I would never hear the end of it from one annoying Sox fan at my school.
Mejia’s 20 years old! How could he possibly have any sort of presence of mind …
What’s all this with Hughes not being able to put hitters away? He had 7 strikeouts. I know he hasn’t looked as sharp, but still, he’s been throwing well.
There aren’t many things that are more annoying than Kevin Millar calling Red Sox highlights.
Just got home, looked at the score, looked at several of the last comments here, wasn’t surprised.
Did you know Dice-K was four outs away from a no-hitter?
its too frustrating.
I always say as long as the frustration is just with the game that day/night and you dont go overboard with doomsday, season is over comments its OK to vent a bit.
Oh, totally agreed. I’ve seen sooooo many “we’re DOOOOOOMED and not that good” type comments though.
This is fine.
joke
I’m calling it, this game is over.
This game sucked. The offense has just looked like shit for the past two days.
/obvious’d
Yeah, I guess.
Pagan with his 2nd lucky-ass hit w/2 outs and a runner on 2nd base. Yanks just arent meant to win this game tonight it seems.
Fuck this game, fuck the Mets, Rays, and Sox, im just going to watch Star Wars on spike, c yall later
drink every time you see an alien
Nice range, Brett!
/silver lining’d
anyone remember when the last time the yankees threw out a runner stealing second
Yesterday.
Last Night?
Um, last night.
Cervelli from his knees last night. That SB was all on Park, Bay was running before CHP even delivered the pitch.
lol
Yesterday. Cervelli. From his knees.
thank you all kindly. did not know that.
lol owned
how is that owned. that was stupid.
She wrote lol. It was a joke.
I thought it was funny that you were like “aaah we’re so bad when was the last time we threw someone out” when it happened last night.
ahh, didn’t think sense of humor was permitted in here. no one seems to have it.
Comeback starts now!
/still optimistic
Boone Logan is warming, so if the game is tied, the Mets will get a lead once again.
/Devil’s advocate’d
Everyone thinks Winn is a sure thing for first DFA of the season, but Park could really give him a run for his money considering the organization’s greater potential depth for relievers over the depth for outfielders.
Park will be a key part of the bullpen throughout the season and the playoffs. Write it down. If anyone is getting DFA’d it will be Logan.
Logan won’t be DFA’d, he still has options to go to AAA.
boone logan warming… might as well say Girardi concedes.
Gotta admit, Yankees never go down w/o a fight offensively at the least.
Thames to pinch-hit for the pitcher??
Cano = clogging up the bases
Ugh. Makes me wish Posada was available. Or Pena had at least some power.
Not like they’re really burning Thames, though, since he can’t play the field.
it’s gonna come back to Tex and you know what he’ll do?? Strike out, but Barajas will make a 4 base error.
I hate that, wasting 2 players for 1 at-bat and leaving you really short now on the bench.
I’m fine with it in this spot.
Yeah turned out great. I would have rather used Thames and had Miranda pinch-hit for Russo although Miranda K’ing makes it moot either way I guess.
Nieve made Miranda look childish on that.
And the rest of the AB, haha.
Another doozie from Chan Ho ’1 ER per appearance’ Park?
Can we say : I can not keep it close?
Aceves for the win, por favor?!?!?!
I really hope Thames was just a decoy there and he still can’t play. I do not want to see him tomorrow against Santana. His numbers are scary bad against him (4-34, 13 K’s).
please just hit the ball.
That was an absolutely atrocious at bat. Wow.
Rather generous on the outside corners right now blue.
NL just confused me for 2 sceonds there
wow bases loaded with no outs… not hopeful
decent ab by russo
Clutch K Russo C’mon!
Russo fighting back to get the count to 3-2.
Russo clearly attends the Nick Johnson School of Hitting.
Psht, that’s not real baseball…
/way too many people’d
Kevin Russo’s a man. He’s 40.
Tex remains amazing in the field.
Major reply fail. wtf
Should be ball 5
and the game should be 5-3
Thanks Miranda….
Really nice ab for Russo.
That was a freaking AWESOME AB by Russo. Makes up for the bad Miranda AB.
When is Russo’s Yankeeography!?!?! lol
Somebody tell Cano that a walk with the bases loaded means you advance a base…
OH SHIT! McCarver called Russo gritty! He’s on his way now!
ietc
Total man-crush on Kevin Russo!
K-Rod? Bring in Mo to hit!!!!
ewww K Rod – almost as big a douche as that reliever from Detroit.
Which means it will be all the more sweet when the Yankees blow it open.
This game belongs to the Yanks; Manuel’s bringing K-Rod in for a five out save.
Gritty atbat
Jeter needs to avoid GBDP
K-rod for the 5 outter? interesting
Talk about managing for your job…
Holy shit, look at that gap in LCF. If ever there was a time to pull the ball, Derek, it’s now.
I guess I asked for it, huh?
Alright, Brett. Come up big.
That double to the gap he had the other night would look very nice there.
Or, just another easy groundout.
The Mets are lucky Jeter didn’t pull it or else it would most likely have been a three run triple.
That was a killer split.
This game was so frustrating. Swisher can’t catch an easy and so can’t Winn.
I don’t remember Swisher dropping anything.
I think he means the foul ball that Swisher didn’t get to.
The easy fly ball that was a foul that Cano almost got to.
The one that landed in the stands?
It landed on the tarp. Cano almost caught it.
Not the worst thing in the world. Not at all. At least down by 2 we have a shot in the ninth.
I’ll take it but Jetes has to stop hitting groudners.
Jeter really tried to GIDP there, heh.
Double steal?
Too risky.
Bingo. Not w/the tying run at first.
Jeter has been my favorite Yankee since he was called up. But this year he has made me scream at him more than his whole career.
What the hell does K-Rod do after a pitch? Does he fall off the mound or something?
Gardner has been utterly awful today. Awful.
Alright, well, at least they’ve got 3-4-5 in the top of the ninth. It’s doable.
You mean 4-5 with one out in the ninth.
/frustration’d
Yikes, and Tex is 2-20 and A-rod is 1-15 against K-Rod, each with 9 K’s.
Please start the improvement to the average now…
I laughed.
http://www.hiyoooo.com/
Damn. One more there would have been nice
Can our real offense step up? It’s the Mutts.
Joe needs to pinch hit for Tex in the ninth. The way he is swinging tonight, KRod will make him look foolish.
Smart idea.
Gardner and Tex are 2 for their last 35.
ARod could be hitting .500 and wouldn’t be getting many RBIs.
Yikes.
Even worse is that during those at-bats they are hitting 2nd and 3rd in the lineup.
This.
No hits with the bases loaded with no outs. That REALLY screws you over, but at least they got SOMETHING compared to their other situations this game, other than Cervelli’s lucky hit.
I usually hate off days, but the one on Monday seems like it’s coming at a good time. Just seems like some guys are dragging and others need to clear their heads and get a day away from the park.
And here I’ve always thought speed never goes into a slump.
Three more hitless at-bats, and Gardner will be hitting under .300. That didn’t last very long.
Swisher to second?
That seems like the logical course of action. He’s a consistent on-base guy. I miss Nick Johnson, though.
Yep. Like yesterday.
in the boxscore where they keep person LOB – yankees have 21.
11 as a team and are 2-12 with RISP.
Tex can’t hit but holy fuck, a monster on defense.
Haha, thanks Jose.
WTH is Reyes thinking?
Mitre is like our best reliever.
What was Reyes thinking? Jesus.
Lol at Reyes.
Reyes… why did you do that? Thanks, though
Because he’s the most exciting player in baseball!
Was Tex just late on an 89 MPH pitch?
Yes. Wow.
Wow. Teixeira couldn’t hit Moyer right now.
Tex is killing me. Can’t hit an 89 mph fastball.
Man, that was ugly.
Changeups just kill Tex. Man, what an awful night for him.
You know… Teix… do me a favor and never swing the bat again. I’d rather you take a couple extra pitches than do… that.
Thanks for coming, Tex.
Texy, babe? I love you but you’re killin’ me.
wasn’t even close. ugh
Who does Tex think he is? David Wright?
/bad joke’d
Tex is almost comically bad this season on outside pitches.
I am not sure why any pitcher would throw anything inside to him at this point.
So it looks like 2 of the 3 members of the offense with a pulse will save the day here.
K-Rod is locating too well. They’re not coming back in this one.
…Though A-Rod would beg to differ.
Tex needs to sit down. He is hurting the team at the plate. He’s only valuable in the field right now.
Shit, A-Rod was late on that one, too.
Arod was guessing off-speed for sure though.
A-Rod is awesome.
Yay Alex.
Let’s go clutch.
Does Cano tie it? I think so.
Haha, wright definitely got some dirt up the nose.
There we go!
So… April Cano… feel free to show up again… please?
Ugh.
It’s up to you now, Swish. Do it, buddy.
So it’s a lucky Cerv or game.
Alright, keeps the line moving. Come on, Frankie!
Swisher’s bicep is healthy.
Frankie, it’s up to you.
Unless Cervelli hits a monster double or better, this game is over. Pitcher spot after Cervelli, and our bench is… Ramiro Pena and Chad Moeller.
PH Sabathia!!!
Man after Swish the lineup sucks.
Cervelli Smash?
Oh man if the pitcher’s spot comes up, who will pinch-hit Pena????
CC!
Rofl.
Mo!
Know what sucks? The pitcher’s spot is due up next.
Id hit with Sabathia. lol
BTW now you know why I hated wasting Thames in that at-bat last inning.
stupid NL
Just send up CC, he can’t be worse then Tex at this point.
But double switches! So much strategy! It’s intense!
maybe they put in CC for the pitcher’s spot?
This game really sucked on all levels.
Wow.
I really need to stop watching this team until they get healthy. This is just depressing.
Sign of a great fan.
Thanks.
I haven’t missed a game in three years.
If you made it through 2008, you can make it through this.
I’m much much much busier at work this year
Heh.
Seriously, though, how can you bail out on the team just because they’re going through rough times?
Blaaaah. Oh well. Do it tomorrow, CC.
well done boys… jason bay and mike pelfrey = schooled the yankees.
Those two are good players. They’re not exactly Jeff Francoeur and Ollie Perez.
Bay just murders us. He did it with the Sox, too, at least early on last year during the 0-8 stretch. Yeah, it would have been hilarious to see the Sox give him way too much money for way too many years, but I’m pretty glad we only have to see him six times a year as opposed to eighteen.
I hate K Rod.
This game sucked balls.
It always feels more frustrating when they get the tying run on base…
Although it is entertaining that it seems like the Mets feel like they just won the World Series.
Oh well. Tomorrow, will be the day. CC’s on the mound and they’ll be going up against a shell of the former Johan.
The guy the Yankees almost traded for vs. the reason the Yankees didn’t trade for him, lol.
I can’t wait for the progression/regression to the mean with RISP.
I can’t wait for Tex to get over the suck
I can’t wait for Jesus to come back.
/Optimism to the ultimate extreme’d
Yankees will score 10 runs on Santana tom night.
They better and CC better give up 3 or less runs through 7.
Those injuries were glaring tonight. Oh well, can’t feel too bad with that pitching performance from them.
let’s stop with the injury excuse-if Jeter-Gardner-Tex do their job– they win.
Gardner did his job, great defense. Offensively he’s probably regressing to what we were expecting. Tex and Jeter are in a slump, probably not as glaring if we had three of our key hitters playing.
Besides, the Mets pitched a great game can’t take that away from them.
I hope tomorrow’s game goes like last year’s lol. Winning by a double digit margin would feel good.
With this lineup it would feel orgasmic!
Geez. We’ve had two bad games in a row, we’re really a damn good lineup.
Yep. Eventually we’ll get that hitting and pitching thing going at the same time, like what happened in most of April. And then – really, watch the hell out AL.
Anyone have a stat on the Yankees avg. w/RISP for today and for the past week or a way I can find this out?
I think Girardi has to shake the lineup up tomorrow. Move people around. Move Tex down in the order, move Cano or Swisher up. Switch Jeter and Gardner. Do something.
Also: Kevin Russo is our starting LF until Granderson returns. Winn can’t hit, run and as this game exemplified, play defense
Girardi sounds pissed in the press conference right now…as he should be.
