A-Rod leaves game with stiff groin

Update (10:09pm): A-Rod has some stiffness in his groin (giggidy) and is day-to-day. He’ll see a doctor tomorrow for a better diagnosis. It’s the same groin that gave him trouble in Toronto.

7:35pm: Alex Rodriguez left today’s game for an unknown reason after the bottom of the first inning. About the only indication of injury we have came on a groundball single through the 5.5 hole, when A-Rod took no more than a step to his left to try and make a play on the ball. He deal with a sore groin last weekend. Hopefully this is nothing serious, because no A-Rod is no good.

Ramiro Pena will play third and bat cleanup (!!!) the rest of the game. We’ll update this post if/when we find out more.

I really hope A-Rod is OK. I was at the game and at the top of the second when he did not come up to bat, I knew something was wrong. I also saw him shaking his leg a lot in the bottom of the first. When he did not come out and Pena did, I knew right then that we had lost the game.

  2. vin says:

The boys will miss his clutchiness. Hopefully he’s not shelved for very long.

  3. T.J. says:

I’m not sure what’s scarier Pena batting clean-up or an A-Rod injury.

  4. BadaBling says:

Lets go Pena, its your time to shine! Show us why the Yanks DFA’ed Cody Ransom last year! He’s gonna be the next A-rod, look out! I predict 2 extra base hits from Pena today!

  5. ari g says:

if anything wrong with arod we should all go home for the season

  9. Bob Stone says:

What’s a 5.5 hole? Never heard that term before.

  10. Bob Stone says:

Thanks you. I presumed as much. Just never heard it called that before. Is it a common term among knowledgeable baseball fans? If so, I am just surprised that I never heard it before in my 55 years of baseball viewing.

    I pulled my groin once.

Felt great. I’ve done it once or twice a day since then.

    Is Cody Ransom available????

  17. Andrew says:

Hopefully Girardi didn’t repeatedly mention rubbing it out re: this particular injury.

  18. misterd says:

“It’s the same groin that gave him trouble in Toronto.”

It is HIS groin, right? He’s not being harassed by other people’s groins or anything, is he?

  19. Yukon Cornelius says:

I thought that Madonna was the groin that got him in trouble in Toronto.

  20. forensicnucchem says:

A-Rod says he felt it during batting practice and then again before first pitch, but still kept himself in the lineup to start the game.

Not smart at all. Not only is it an irresponsible risk for someone so important to the team, but it destroys the lineup when he comes out before even getting one AB.

  21. nsalem says:

Hoping this is a short term injury. Considering the offensive woes of Tex and Jorge and our total lack of any big bats off the bench a prolonged absence of Arod could spell big trouble. Russo and Pena are nice role players, but we are only carrying 13 offensive players. Two of them must be catchers besides Jorge and currently two can’t start
(Arod and Gardner). Methinks some tinkering is in order.
