Heathcott gets back in the swing of things in a loss
ByHector Noesi is your Double-A Eastern League Pitcher of the Week while Zoilo Almonte, Luke Murton, and Ryan Flannery will participate in the Low-A South Atlantic League All Star Game. Corban Joseph and Jose Ramirez got hosed.
Here’s a roundup of the night’s action, bullet pointed because of the draft. Double-A Trenton had a scheduled day off.
- Triple-A Scranton lost. Jesus Montero didn’t play, but Chad Huffman picked up a pair of hits. Boring game.
- High-A Tampa lost. Andrew Brackman gave up three runs in six innings of work, and Melky Mesa hit a grand slam.
- Low-A Charleston lost. Slade Heathcott picked up two hits, including a triple, but Arodys Vizcaino was just too much.

Yay for former first pick.
Arodys
And before anyone jumps in: No, I wouldn’t take back that trade he was just my pet prospect. I saw all his starts on SI.
You are at least implying you’d take back the trade, right? Right???
Needs more negativity!
I supported the trade since it happened. Try again.
You always trade the Low A pitcher with upside for a guy like Vazquez.
Oh wait I think I read your comment wrong!! I’m sorry for the snark, tough night.
he’s tearing it up. and he looks like such a g in his milb profile picture.
Of course Cito Culver went hitless for the day.
Douche.
I lol’d
Nice job Slade. Arodys Vizcaino looks to have found his groove.
yeah, i’d say no ERs over his last 33 2/3 IPs qualifies as a groove
oh, and a K/BB ratio of 31/0
Holy crap…
Not that I’d take back the trade, but I wouldn’t mind having given up someone else. Although it is still to early to tell.
I went to the Scranton game tonight. Boring game pretty much sums it up. Yanks had a dozen hits, but only one or two were hit hard.
On a night that Aroyds pitched against the Class A Yanks, Mike Dunn dominated the Triple-A Yanks to get a save. He was sitting 95-96 all night.
http://bit.ly/bbE1x5 – Jesus didn’t play, but had a good time in the dugout.
http://bit.ly/aE6XJh – He did however, sign my ticket!
Did he actually sign it, or just waive his hand over the ticket and, Cana-style, make his autograph appear?
I wonder if Brackman gets promoted soon. His K:BB ratio and GB:FB ratio are good enough to warrant a promotion.
I think after last year, he’s gonna need to have a loooong positive stretch.
this
unfortunately
But I still have some hope that he has turned it around and will become at least a 3rd starter type guy, hopefully he REALLY turns it around and becomes oh so much more!
10/4 GB/FB and 4/1 K/BB for Brackman. Me like.
How the hell is Venditte still in Tampa? I don’t even think that highly of him but he’s older than Joba. I think he’s dominated kids he could’ve fathered for long enough.
Why even bother writing a DOTF, Mike?
WE BUSTED HORRIBLY WITH OUR FIRST PICK, ALL IS LOST! WE’RE DOOMED!!!
Never write another DOTF again. No point following the kids in the minors, they’re all busts drafted by morons.
I can’t believe that Corban Joseph didn’t make the Sally League All-Star game too.
Sad day in the Dominican Republic. Melvin with the blown save and loss. He works in mysterious ways.
Is this a sign of the apocolypse? Or is this another form of Melvin giving back to those with unfortunately less ability?
I wasn’t big on draft stuff last year? What is Slade’s cieling/likely production?
That first question mark was not needed.
I know his ceiling is uber-high, because he’s “toolsy.” Couldn’t tell ya his likely production.
Slade supposedly grades out BETTER than Austin Jackson across the board in every tools category. He was a legit 1st round hitting talent who pimped it out in the Texas State playoffs. That that FWIW.
Laird, Noesi, Romine, Phelps…Trenton’s worth watching, kids. Come on out.
Are the Thunder having trouble drawing this year? That’s a shame – I used to work with Will Smith in Hagerstown back in ’03.
Whoa, Tim Norton sighting! 6 K’s in two innings is pretty sweet.
He had 4 in his first inning.
ANy details on Norton’s velo these days? At 27, I would think he’s also promo candidate
